“TJP, fresh off of an impressive outing in the ’21 Opera Cup, where he went to the finals, looks to start 2022 with a statement. A win over the globe-trotting grappler Matt Cross would start the new year with a punctuation,” MLW wrote.

Jacob Fatu vs. Matt Cross World title match set for MLW Fusion: Alpha

MLW has revealed two matches for next Wednesday’s edition of Fusion: Alpha, including one for the World title.

Before his historic title vs. title clash with National Openweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone on next Thursday’s Fightland Vice TV special, MLW Champion Jacob Fatu will defend against Matt Cross. The match will serve as Cross’ MLW singles debut while also being Fatu’s eleventh championship defense.

Cross demanded the match with new matchmaker Cesar Duran the past two weeks and was granted his wish.

After announcing the creation of the Women’s Featherweight Championship last week, MLW will also hold only their second women’s match in company history next week as Willow Nightingale will face one half of the Sea Stars in Ashley Vox. There has yet to be a formal tournament announced as of yet.

Also set for next week: Rivera and Slice Boogie of 5150 will take on Middleweight Champion Myron Reed and Jordan Oliver of Injustice as their rivalry begins to get heated up.

Matt Cross joins MLW for new season, two others returning

In the final round of their “open draft,” MLW announced that Matt Cross has returned to the promotion.

Cross will be part of the Azteca Underground faction, headed by Cesar Duran (the former Dario Cueto in Lucha Underground).

The 40-year-old wrestled in two tag team matches for MLW back in 2004. A pro since 1999, Cross spent six years in Lucha Underground as the masked Son of Havoc. Along with some select indie dates, Cross has been seen in the NWA ring as of late.

As part of the draft special, MLW also announced the return of both Jordan Oliver of Injustice and Kit Osbourne of Team Filthy, rounding out the roster ahead of their July 10th TV taping in Philadelphia. Last season, Oliver and Injustice feuded with Contra Unit while Osbourne hasn’t been in the promotion since February 2020.

New faces joining MLW starting in July include Cross, Davey Richards, Arez, EJ Nduka, Lee Moriarty and Aramis.

Title challengers announced for NWA pop-up event

All three title challengers have now been revealed for the first NWA show of 2019.

The NWA is partnering with Tried-N-True Pro Wrestling for a “pop-up event” in Clarksville, Tennessee on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Last week, it was announced that James Storm would be challenging for Nick Aldis’ NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at the show. The two other title challengers were confirmed today, with Matt Cross set to challenge for Willie Mack’s NWA National title and Allie challenging for Jazz’s NWA Women’s Championship.

Willie Mack won a tournament to become National Champion at the NWA’s 70th Anniversary Show this October. Jazz retained her title against Penelope Ford at the 70th Anniversary Show, which was where Aldis defeated Cody Rhodes to regain the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

January’s pop-up event is taking place at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center in Clarksville and is being called “New Years Clash.” It will also feature the first qualifying match for 2019’s Crockett Cup Tournament.
