MLW SuperFight results: Alex Hammerstone vs. Davey Richards World title match

Taped recently in Charlotte, North Carolina, MLW SuperFight 2022 was headlined by three scheduled title matches and a grudge match between nZo and KC Navarro.

Emilio Sparks caught up with Alicia Atout and Richard Holliday as they teased interfering in tonight’s Hammerstone vs. Davey Richards MLW World title match. They also said they have business with Cesar Duran to take care of.

MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane (w/ Mr. Thomas) defeated Calvin Tankman and ACH in a three-way to retain the title

Kane and Tankman continued their feud which also included ACH who had a brief backstage pull-apart with Kane last week which inserted him into this match. Tankman had his knee heavily taped after last week’s attack by Kane and his bodyguard Mr. Thomas during their championship singles match.

Having ACH in the match brought out the high flying aspect of things as Kane and Tankman brought the power and strength.

Kane rammed Tankman head first into the ring post multiple times before he suplexed ACH all over the ring as he took firm control in his title defense.

ACH fought back and hit a deadlift German on Kane, but then missed a plancha to the floor. To make matters worse, he also ate a spinning back fist by a recovered Tankman. Kane ducked Tankman’s big elbow to the back of the head and suplexed his opponent using his injured knee.

Tankman caught ACH coming off the top rope and squashed Kane in the corner with a buckle bomb, but ACH quickly shook it off and hit a suicide dive to Kane on the floor.

In the ring, ACH took out Tankman’s knee but Kane got back in to interrupt a Texas cloverleaf, hitting ACH with a superkick and a leg trap suplex to pick up the win to retain his title.

– Backstage, Emilio Sparks met with EJ Nduka who said he is watching the title matches tonight, hinting that he will be challenging for either the Openweight or World titles in the future, not mentioning (and seemingly overlooking) the tag titles.

– Backstage, Tag Team Champions 5150 attacked the Von Erichs’ ankles with steel chairs putting their tag title match in jeopardy. It was later confirmed that the Von Erichs were indeed injured and the title match was off. I did suspect something like this would happen as the usual MLW format is three matches over a one-hour show.

Moments later, 5150 cut a promo on the Von Erichs, shouting about everyone with a famous name getting “a free pass” to challenge them and wanted the best tag teams to step up. There was a nice tease at the future direction as Slice Boogie wanted to challenge the biggest in the locker room with Julius Smokes adding “there will be justice.” I immediately thought of “The Judge” EJ Nduka and, later in the night, they attacked Nduka during a meet and greet with the fans.

– TJP is back in MLW and wants to add the MLW Middleweight title to his impressive list of junior and cruiserweight title honors. He called out champion Myron Reed and told him to watch out.

nZo defeated KC Navarro

Shortly after his debut, nZo jumped Navarro and injured him by buckle bombing him into the ring post, putting Navarro out of action for months. This was supposed to be Navarro’s revenge, but nZo jumped him during his entrance, whipped him into the guardrail, and buckle bombed him into the ring post again.

nZo rolled a lifeless Navarro into the ring and asked him via the mic if he still wanted to fight. Navarro valiantly shouted, “How you doing, bitch?” and the referee rang the bell.

nZo continued the attack on the neck with backstabbers, rope-assisted guillotines, and slamming him hard on the floor.

In the ring, Navarro had a last attempt by grabbing the ropes during a pin, but nZo just pulled his lifeless body up and hit Eat The Feet finisher for the win.

nZo got on the mic after the match and lectured Navarro about using your special abilities and about how you respond to getting your ass kicked. nZo said Navarro had heart, and after having the crowd in the palm of his hands cheering and clapping, he extended his hand in a show of tough love and respect.

But, of course, all was not as it seemed as nZo showed his true colors and quickly knocked Navarro down and hit his finisher once more.

MLW World Champion Alex Hammerstone defeated Davey Richards to retain the title

Richards became the number one contender after winning the 2021 Opera Cup and we were promised a classic title match when the hype video for this match closed last week’s Fusion episode.

The aforementioned Holliday and Atout bought some front row seats from fans. If the lady behind Holliday was not a plant, she played along excellently as she furiously stared a hole in the back of Holliday’s head as he flaunted his cash and disgust at the other fans around him.

Putting things in place for the exciting ending to the match, Hammerstone and Richards teased their finishers early as the champion escaped the ankle Lock and Richards wriggled out of the Nightmare Pendulum.

The main story of the match unfolded as Richards focused on Hammerstone’s previously injured ankle by draping it over the guardrail and running all his weight into it. Inside the ring, he continued with locks and holds putting pressure on the ankle as he looked to set up for his ankle lock finisher.

A figure four had Hammerstone in pain and Richards transitioned into the Trailer Hitch, but Hammerstone somehow powered to the ropes to break.

Hammerstone blocked a suplex attempt while playing into the big vs. small story they were also telling throughout the match.

Hammerstone sat up like The Undertaker after a running soccer kick to the chest and shook off more attempts to chop him down as Richards went to the legs, knees and ankles some more. Hammerstone caught Richards in a gorilla press and dropped him with a swinging uranage.

The match was delicately balanced as Richards caught Hammerstone’s leg and hit a dragon screw to turn it back in his favor. But, he then missed a double foot stomp and ate an exploder suplex into the corner.

The back and forth continued as Richards again had Hammerstone on the apron with his leg draped over the ropes. Richards came off the top with a foot stomp and as Hammerstone rolled into the ring, Richard went up again, hitting another double foot stomp for a two count.

Richards immediately rolled into his ankle lock. Hammerstone rolled and pushed him out, but Richards bounced off the ropes with a soccer punt. Richards got him up but Hammerstone reversed a suplex into the Nightmare Pendulum. Richards instinctively rolled to the outside to avoid the pin.

A small package fired Richards up but Hammerstone ran over him with a clothesline. A Burning Hammer couldn’t keep Richards down but a second Nightmare Pendulum did the job as Hammerstone retained his title in this hard-fought victory.

After the match, Hammerstone confronted Holliday at ringside but Atout sprayed pepper spray into his eyes and Holliday busted him open by ramming him into the steel ring post. Holliday was wearing a white shirt and suit, ending the show with a great visual as after putting boots to him the blood-soaked Holliday was held back by security as the injured champion lay on the ground.

5150 won the MLW Tag Team titles from Los Parks last November. Those two teams faced off in a rematch on last week’s episode of Fusion, with 5150 retaining in a ladder match.

“Fresh off of defeating Los Parks in a contractually obligated rematch, 5150 demanded a match at SuperFight in Charlotte. Going as far as to sign an open contract bout sheet, 5150 fears no one and vows they’re bulletproof against any challenge to their belts,” MLW wrote.

“Wasting no time, EJ ‘The Judge’ Nduka took them up on the task, signing the dotted line… but leaving his partner’s name undisclosed.”

MLW teased whether Nduka will have a partner or face 5150 on his own: “When pressed for who is partner will be for the title bout, EJ told MLW.com, ‘Who says I even have a partner? This is the year of the Judge. It’s undeniable.'”

Nduka joined MLW after being released from NXT last year.

Von Erichs vs. Ricky & Kerry Morton added to MLW SuperFight

Two pro wrestling families are set to collide at MLW SuperFight later this month.

MLW has announced that Ross & Marshall Von Erich will take on Ricky & Kerry Morton in a tag team match at SuperFight on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ricky & Kerry Morton are making their MLW debuts at SuperFight. It was announced last month that The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) are going on a farewell tour so that Morton can focus more on teaming with his son Kerry and on the behind the scenes of the pro wrestling business.

The Von Erich brothers were supposed to challenge 5150 (Slice Boogie & Danny “Limelight” Rivera) for the MLW Tag Team titles at last month’s Blood & Thunder tapings in Texas, but Ross & Marshall had to pull out of the show due to testing positive for COVID-19.

The updated card for SuperFight is listed below. The event is being taped to air on future episodes of MLW Fusion.

  • MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Davey Richards
  • Stairway to Hell match: Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
  • Killer Kross returns to MLW
  • MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross, and ACH in a four-way match

Trios match added to MLW SuperFight tapings

A trios match is the latest addition to the lineup for this month’s MLW television tapings.

MLW has announced that Arez, Gino Medina & Mini Abismo Negro will face Puma King, Octagon Jr., and a mystery partner at SuperFight on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

MLW wrote about the matchup, hyping that it will be Octagon Jr.’s American debut:

Octagon Jr., Puma King and a mystery partner will face Strange Sangre’s Arez, Gino Medina and Mini Abismo Negro in what promises to be an exhilarating nonstop clash of six top luchadores.

Featuring the American debut of Octagon Jr., Cesar [Duran[ promises a spectacular bout unlike anything else on the SuperFight card.

A former AAA World Trios Champion an, member of Los Jinetes del Aire (“The Air Raiders”), Octagon Jr. donned the Octagon mask in 2019 and represents the next generation of one of AAA’s most iconic luchadores.

Pouncing into action alongside Octagon Jr., is the coolest cat around, Puma King. No stranger to MLW, Puma King looks to return to the league with a purrrfect outing at SuperFight.

But who is the mystery third man on this team?

Calling themselves Strange Sangre, Gino Medina, Arez and Mini Abismo Negro laugh at the idea of a mystery man. Claiming Octagon Jr. & Puma King need all of the tricks they can use to have a shot at defeating them, this trio enters Charlotte full of confidence and skepticism about the mystery third person.

Will Strange Sangre vanquish Octagon Jr., Puma King and their mystery man? Find out Saturday night, February 26 in Charlotte at MLW SuperFight!

SuperFight is being headlined by a double main event. Alex Hammerstone will defend his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Davey Richards, while Jacob Fatu is set to take on Mads Krugger in a Stairway to Hell match.

Alex Shelley vs. Richard Holliday added to MLW SuperFight

A new match has been added to this month’s MLW television tapings.

Alex Shelley will face Richard Holliday at MLW SuperFight in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center.

Following the main event of last week’s MLW Fusion, Holliday turned against his friend Alex Hammerstone and got together with Alicia Atout. Hammerstone retained his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Pagano after Holliday helped him fight off interference by Azteca henchmen. Atout was going to interview Hammerstone after the match, but she instead low blowed him with the microphone. Holliday then attacked Hammerstone and posed with Hammerstone’s title belt.

Last week’s Fusion went off the air with Holliday and Atout making out.

“The controversial couple [Holliday and Atout] promises to continue shocking the world of MLW and vows to make SuperFight a memorable night as they tease breaking a few taboos and bones as they start a new chapter together as MLW’s power couple,” MLW wrote.

“Standing across the ring will be a true fighting artist in Alex Shelley. Shelley, who debuted in MLW last fall, enters the match with a standout career, collecting championships in virtually every organization he’s competed in from the United States to Japan and all points in-between.”

Ricky & Kerry Morton to make MLW debut at SuperFight

A pro wrestling legend and his son are set to make their MLW debuts later this month.

Ricky & Kerry Morton will debut for MLW at the promotion’s SuperFight tapings on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“The father and son duo are taking advantage of MLW’s open door policy and look to show MLW’s tag team division the iconic southern tag team style the Mortons are masters of,” MLW wrote.

“A highly touted prospect, 20-year old Kerry Morton is a 3rd generation grappler trained by his father. Just like his father in the 1980s, Kerry looks to showcase his talents to the world in Charlotte’s Grady Cole Center.”

Last month, Ricky Morton announced that The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express would be going on a farewell tour. Morton wrote that he wanted to focus more on teaming with Kerry and on the behind the scenes of the wrestling business.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express’ farewell tour began with Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson losing to FTR at a show for Big Time Wrestling in January.

Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat is also returning to Charlotte to appear at the MLW SuperFight tapings. In storyline, Steamboat is the matchmaker for the night.

Here’s the updated SuperFight lineup:

  • MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Davey Richards

Stairway to Hell match added to MLW SuperFight

A grudge match is the latest addition to the card for MLW’s SuperFight tapings.

MLW has announced that Jacob Fatu and Mads Krugger will face off in a Stairway to Hell match at SuperFight on Saturday, February 26. It’s being advertised as part of a double main event for the tapings.

The other main event for SuperFight is Alex Hammerstone defending his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Davey Richards.

MLW wrote about the Stairway to Hell stipulation:

2 weapons will hang high above the ring as two monsters of the mat vow to maim each other as CONTRA’s civil war hits Charlotte. Both combatants will wage war as they attempt to climb the ladder and grab either weapon and unleash hell on their adversary.

Each combatant has submitted their weapon of choice for the Stairway to Hell match.

The 7-foot masked mercenary has selected a Baklei war club. The club, a resourceful instrument of pain, was acquired by Krugger during his stint competing in illegal Baklei prize fights in the South African underworld.

A Maliliu Cane has been selected by Jacob Fatu as his weapon, which will be placed above the ring along with Krugger’s prior to the start of their colossal clash. Reportedly, a Maliliu Cane is a spiky, long bamboo stick, which has evolved into a dangerous street weapon wrapped in razor wire.

Contra Unit imploded when Fatu and Krugger got into a brawl after losing last November’s War Chamber match to Hammerstone, Richard Holliday, EJ Nduka, Savio Vega & Jeff Cobb. Krugger blamed Fatu for Contra’s loss.

Fatu and Krugger also faced each other at January’s Blood & Thunder tapings.

The SuperFight tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Pro wrestling legend Ricky Steamboat will be appearing at the tapings and — in storyline — is the matchmaker for the show.

Alex Kane will also defend his MLW National Openweight Championship in a fatal four-way match against Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross, and ACH at SuperFight.

MLW Azteca Underground added to WrestleMania weekend events, new title match announced for SuperFight

MLW Azteca Underground will be part of WrestleMania 38 weekend festivities in Dallas, Texas, with a matinee TV taping and interactive experience set for Friday, April 1st at Gilley’s.

Tickets go on sale next Thursday and include a tour of Cesar Duran’s office where the MLW matchmaker “makes matches, schemes and holds court.” Fans can take photos sitting at his desk.

Additionally, first and second row ticket holders get access to a pre-show VIP “lucha lunch” with a taco bar. MLW is also offering add-ons like pre-show meet and greets with Duran himself and Microman, the ability to create an action figure with themselves and an MLW wrestler, and more.

The company is running ther MLW Intimidation Games TV taping the night before at Gilley’s in Dallas.

**********

A new title match has been added to the company’s SuperFight show on Saturday, February 26th in Charlotte, North Carolina, as National Openweight titleholder Alex Kane will defend against rival Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross and ACH in a four-way clash.

Tankman has been feuding with Kane and King Mo for several months after the two injured Tankman and took him out of the Opera Cup tournament. They also got Tankman arrested in storyline.

The TV taping will be headlined by MLW Champion Alexander Hammerstone against Opera Cup winner Davey Richards in a title match.

Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat to appear at MLW SuperFight

An all-time great will be in attendance when MLW comes to Charlotte, North Carolina later this month.

MLW has announced that pro wrestling legend Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat will be appearing at their SuperFight tapings in Charlotte on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center.

“Major League Wrestling today announced Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat is coming to MLW SuperFight hosted by the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte on Saturday February 26, featuring an MLW Fusion TV taping,” MLW wrote.

“The legend returns to the hallowed grounds of the Grady Cole Center where ‘The Dragon’ emerged as a main eventer and forever became a part of Charlotte’s rich wrestling history.”

In storyline, Steamboat will be the matchmaker for the SuperFight tapings. MLW questioned how authority figure Cesar Duran will react to Steamboat’s presence.

Steamboat will also be available for autograph and photo opportunities before the SuperFight show starts.

The SuperFight tapings will be headlined by Alex Hammerstone putting his MLW World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Davey RIchards. Richards was the winner of last year’s MLW Opera Cup tournament.

Hammerstone vs. Davey Richards World title match set for MLW SuperFight

Davey Richards is getting a shot at the MLW World Heavyweight Championship.

It was announced via Sports Illustrated today that MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone will defend his title against Richards at MLW’s SuperFight tapings on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Richards was the winner of MLW’s 2021 Opera Cup tournament. He defeated TJP in the finals.

Hammerstone became MLW World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Jacob Fatu in a title vs. title match at Fightland last October. Hammerstone was MLW National Openweight Champion going into the match but voluntarily relinquished that title after defeating Fatu.

It was announced last month that Hammerstone and Richards have both signed new multi-year deals with MLW.

Richards made his debut for MLW in July 2021. Prior to last year, he hadn’t wrestled since 2017.

“This is a story people will invest in,” Hammerstone told Sports Illustrated. “Davey is a veteran with more experience than almost everyone on our roster. He’s now my new measuring stick, a test that’s providing a new challenge for me as heavyweight champion.

“We’re presenting a new era in MLW. Davey’s rise here has been meteoric, but I’m the top of the mountain. Both of us are at the top of our game, and both of us are going to deliver.”

“An opportunity like this is why I chose to come back [to pro wrestling],” Richards said. “I did not come back to make friends. I came to make history.

“I came back to end things my way — and my way is being the best wrestler in the world. That will be signified by winning the MLW World title.”

Before SuperFight, Hammerstone will defend his title against Pagano in a falls count anywhere match at MLW’s Blood & Thunder tapings in Dallas, Texas this Friday.
