Roxanne Perez, formerly Rok-C, made her first appearance on NXT tonight.
Perez was being interviewed when Toxic Attraction showed up and welcomed her to NXT, saying she shouldn’t set her expectations too high. Jacy Jayne didn’t like the way Perez responded and said instead of next week, her debut should be tonight. The two ended up having a match, with Perez scoring the win with a code red after a distraction from Wendy Choo on the video screen.
Prior to her interview, a vignette aired showing Perez talking about having a rough childhood but grew up playing WWE video games. The vignette originally said she would be debuting on next week’s show prior to the confrontation between Perez and Toxic Attraction.
WWE confirmed Perez’s signing in March. She originally made her debut on last week’s edition of NXT Level Up, defeating Sloane Jacobs.
Perez spent much of 2021 working for Ring of Honor, winning their Women’s World Championship in a tournament final. She lost the title earlier this year in Impact Wrestling to Deonna Purrazzo in a match that was also for the AAA Reina de Reinas title.
The former Rok-C is set to make her WWE debut on this week’s episode of NXT Level Up.
WWE has announced that Rok-C, who has been given the new in-ring name Roxanne Perez, will face Sloane Jacobs on NXT Level Up this Friday. The episode was taped before NXT earlier this week.
It was confirmed last month that the 20-year-old Rok-C (real name Carla Gonzalez) has signed with WWE. She’s a former ROH Women’s World Champion.
Rok-C was trained by Booker T and is also a former Diamonds Division Champion for Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling promotion.
Jacobs (real name Amelia Herr) was part of the same class of WWE Performance Center recruits as Rok-C. Before signing with WWE, Jacobs wrestled on the indies as The Notorious Mimi. She made her NXT debut in a loss to Nikkita Lyons two weeks ago.
WWE.com wrote about Jacobs when she signed:
Amelia Herr is an 18-year-old Criminal Justice major out of West Chester, Pa. With two years of Taekwondo training under her belt, she also competed on the independents as The Notorious Mimi.
NXT Level Up airs on Peacock/WWE Network at 10 p.m. Eastern time on Fridays. Here’s the full lineup for this week’s episode:
Trained by Booker T, Rok-C first started wrestling under Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling promotion. In 2021, she started to gain attention during her run in Ring of Honor, competing in a tournament to crown the first Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion. At 19, she became the first-ever champion by defeating Miranda Alize in a tournament final. Before the company temporarily shut down in December, she defeated Willow Nightingale to retain the championship at Final Battle.
Rok-C went on to lose the title to Deonna Purrazzo on the episode of Impact Wrestling that aired on January 13 that had been for both the ROH Women’s World Championship and the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship.
Other matches taped for Level Up this week had Damon Kemp defeating Troy Donovan and Tatum Paxley defeating Kiana James.
The show opened with a graphic paying tribute to Scott Hall.
Richard Holiday cut a promo in an empty Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, NC — the venue that hosted last week’s SuperFight in Charlotte. He said despite the history that has occurred in that building, it will now be forever known for his attack on MLW Champion Hammerstone last week. He knelt over a spot where Hammerstone’s blood was still stained on the floor and said it will forever remain in Charlotte.
Miranda Gordy defeated Rok-C
This show aired on the day WWE announced Rok-C as part of the latest class of recruits to start at the Performance Center. The commentary team played up the history of Gordy’s father, Terry, in Dallas as well.
Gordy had the size and strength advantage, but Rok-C found a counter for most things she attempted early in the match.
They cut to a clip of a limousine parked out front and the commentary team wondered who might be inside.
Gordy eventually got the first period of sustained offense. She knocked her young opponent down with a series of chops. She followed that up with a big body slam for a two count. Rok-C then fought back with a series of strikes but Gordy cut off her momentum with another slam and an elbow drop.
An opportunity opened up for Rok-C when she dodged a charge into the corner and Gordy landed hard on the turnbuckle. Rok-C landed a Lou Thesz press and then got a two count off a pinning combination. She then locked in a crossface. Gordy fought out of it and the two the exchanged pinning combinations. Gordy then hit a kick to the stomach and her Bam Bam Slam (power bomb) for the win.
After the match, Gordy was interviewed ringside and said she’s not a featherweight: she’s a powerweight and she’s going to destroy all the ballerinas and barbie dolls in the division.
– A video featuring Mads Krugger was shown. He challenged Jacob Fatu to a Stairway to Hell match for next week.
– It was announced that Gangrel debuts next week. However, he debuted years ago at the original War Games against Simon Gotch.
– We cut back to the limousine. A window rolled down to reveal Holliday and Alicia Atout in the car. They were celebrating their attack on Hammerstone from last week. He said they had something historic and sexy planned to celebrate. They invited the camera guy into the limo to end the segment.
– Dr. Julius Smokes cut a promo hyping up 5150. He mentioned that he would die for Konnan. Hopefully, Konnan is healthy enough to return to tapings shortly.
– A backstage promo featuring Hammerstone was shown. He talked about dropping out of college to chase his pro wrestling dream. He also talked about the struggles he had early in his career while making hardly any money.
– A vignette announced that Killer Kross makes his return next week.
– Following the attack by 5150 last week, Marshall Von Erich suffered a fractured ankle and will be out three-to-four weeks. Ross Von Erich is day-to-day after suffering a grade one concussion. The medical update on Hammerstone was that there is no update as he has refused to participate in a medical evaluation.
– EJ Nduka was interviewed backstage. He said 5150 chose the wrong one when they attacked him at SuperFight.
– We cut back to Holliday and Atout in the limo. They started making out when Alicia became distracted. She showed her phone to Holliday and he agreed with her that it was big news. They then exited the limo.
TJP defeated Buddy Matthews
TJP cut a promo before the match. He called the fans “crayon eaters” which got a surprise pop out of me. He continued to talk about MLW’s open door free agent policy. He’s not a fan of the policy as he feels all the indie darlings suck. He is forced to entertain the policy tonight, however, as he takes on Buddy Matthews.
Matthews got on the mic before the match as well. He said he didn’t knock on the forbidden door — he knocked it down. He said he’s the greatest cruiserweight and commentary played up how he and TJP are both former cruiserweight champions from a different company.
During the opening moments, commentary mentioned that they are hearing something is happening in the back involving Cesar Duran.
They opened up with some grappling until they found themselves at a stalemate. TJP locked in an octopus stretch moments later.
Matthews dodged a move in the corner and landed awkwardly on his knee. He limped to the outside, but TJP followed. Matthews then tossed TJP into the guardrail. This injury would become the story of the match.
TJP delivered a springboard dropkick to his opponent’s injured knee and then continued to work on it for a period. He locked in a figure four at one point as the match continued to center around Matthews’ knee. Matthews eventually reversed the pressure and TJP grabbed the ropes to break the hold. TJP then went right back to focusing on the knee after.
Matthews fought back and delivered a DDT as TJP was draped in the ropes. The two ended up exchanging strikes in the middle of the ring moments later. Matthews hit a gourdbuster and followed that up with strikes before hitting a brainbuster for a two count.
Matthews went for a sunset flip bomb, but his knee buckled and he crumpled to the mat. TJP then took time to dab (in 2022) which allowed Matthews to hit him with some kicks. Matthews then picked him up and delivered a power bomb for a two count. Commentary then mentioned we would have an announcement from Duran after the conclusion of the match.
TJP locked Matthews in a figure four deathlock (basically a figure four/sharpshooter combo). He then went for the detonation kick, but Matthews countered into a curb stomp for a two count.
They ended up fighting atop the turnbuckle when TJP grabbed the referee by his shirt. Matthews fought to free the ref but TJP swiped at Matthews’ leg and sent him to the mat. TJP then hit the Mamba splash to the knee and got a two count. As Matthews kicked out, TJP transitioned into a heel hook. Matthews tried to crawl to the ropes but ended up tapping out. This was good.
TJP yelled into the camera that he and the other members of the United Empire are taking over the world.
– We cut to the back where Duran said that Hammerstone has been impossible to reach following the attack from Holliday last week. He said that if Hammerstone doesn’t appear in person on MLW Fusion next week, the World title will be vacated.
Next Week:
– Mads Krugger vs. Jacob Fatu in a Stairway to Hell match
WWE has unveiled its latest group of Performance Center signees.
The class is headlined by former ROH Women’s World Champion Rok-C, who has officially signed with WWE after taking part in two tryouts. The 20-year-old was trained by Booker T at his Reality of Wrestling school and is a former Reality of Wrestling Diamonds Division Champion.
Last September, Rok-C won the ROH Women’s World Championship by defeating Miranda Alize in the finals of a tournament. Rok-C lost the title to Deonnna Purrazzo this January.
WWE has also confirmed that Fallon Henley and Kayla Inlay, who have both already appeared on NXT, have signed with the company. Henley formerly wrestled as Tesha Price and was a regular on AEW Dark. She’s currently aligned with Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen in NXT.
Bianca Carelli, the daughter of former WWE wrestler Santino Marella, is also part of this group of signees. The class consists of 14 people in total, including indie wrestlers Cole Karter, Nikita Knight, “Motherlover” Jake Tucker, and The Notorious Mimi.
Theresa Schuessler who debuted on NXT 2.0 as Fallon Henley, is a 24-year old Tampa, Fla., native with five years of experience under her belt competing in the independent circuit under the name of Tesha Price.
Kayla Inlay has already begun to make a name for herself on NXT 2.0 and NXT Level Up. A former collegiate dancer and cheerleader, Inlay was trained by former WWE Superstar Tyler Breeze after training at his school ‘Flatbacks.’

Bianca Carelli, the daughter of WWE Superstar Santino Marella, comes to the Performance Center after earning her Bachelor’s degree in biology from Western University. Carelli has extensive training in MMA fighting with a focus on Judo, Jiu Jitsu and Boxing.

Amelia Herr is an 18-year-old Criminal Justice major out of West Chester, Pa. With two years of Taekwondo training under her belt, she also competed on the independents as The Notorious Mimi.
Nearly a month after her trainer Booker T backtracked after initially breaking the news, Rok-C has reportedly signed a WWE contract and will start in NXT.
PWInsider reported the news Monday.
During a mid-February appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour, Booker T said the 20-year-old had signed a deal but later tweeted that he misspoke. That came a week after our Dave Meltzer reported the former Ring of Honor Women’s Champion had been offered a contract after two tryouts with the company.
Rok-C dropped the ROH title in January to Deonna Purrazzo on an episode of Impact Wrestling and has wrestled just twice since then: a January match against Miranda Gordy in MLW and a late-February Texas indie match against Raychell Rose.
As was the case with all other contracted talent, she became a free agent as part of the changes within ROH as the company announced a plan to go dark in the first quarter of 2022 to restructure and revamp. AEW’s Tony Khan then announced that he bought the company from Sinclair nearly two weeks ago.
Rok-C became the brand’s first Women’s Champion as the title was introduced in a tournament last summer.
Booker T posted a tweet today claiming that he misspoke when he said Rok-C has signed with WWE: “There’s an article going around saying I confirmed Rok-C signed a contract to WWE, I misspoke on that… but they better sign her dammit!”

Former Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Rok-C is officially headed to WWE.
During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani earlier this week, Booker T confirmed that the 20-year-old Rok-C has signed with WWE. Dave Meltzer reported last week that Rok-C had been offered a WWE contract after taking part in two tryouts.
Rok-C was trained by Booker T at his Reality of Wrestling school and is a former Reality of Wrestling Diamonds Division Champion. Booker T spoke about Rok-C signing with WWE while discussing working with young talent.
“One of my girls just debuted on AEW Dynamite with Jade Cargill, her name’s AQA. They just signed her to a contract, it’s really, really cool,” Booker T said.
“One of my girls, Rok-C, WWE just signed her. She was my youngest champion in Reality of Wrestling. Started with me in fantasy camp. She was 13 years old — her dream was to be the Reality of Wrestling Champion. You know, I got guys out there floating around all over the world right now. That’s my passion — literally that’s my passion, just working with young guys from an in-ring perspective, from a mental perspective, from just a life perspective. I don’t know why, but it gives me purpose.”
Rok-C won the ROH Women’s World Championship by defeating Miranda Alize in the finals of a tournament last September. She lost the title to Deonna Purrazzo on an episode of Impact Wrestling last month.
Rok-C, a former ROH Women’s World Champion, has been offered a WWE contract.
Our Dave Meltzer reports that Rok-C took part in a WWE tryout camp recently, the second time that she has done so, and was offered a deal. Rok-C was also part of a tryout camp in December 2021.
Just 20 years old, Rok-C, real name Carla Gonzalez, began training at 13, then moved on to Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling school and promotion at age 16.
She defeated Miranda Alize in the finals of a tournament to claim the ROH Women’s World title at Death Before Dishonor in September 2021. She made eight defenses of the title, including a win over Willow Nightingale at the Final Battle pay-per-view n December, then dropped the Championship to Deonna Purrazzo at an Impact Wrestling taping in January of this year.
Also part of the December WWE tryout camp were a number of talents used by AEW in the past, including Robyn Renegade, who faces Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D on tonight’s AEW Rampage.
“The Virtuosa” defeated Rok-C for the ROH Women’s title in the main event of Thursday’s edition of Impact Wrestling. It was a title vs. title match with Purrazzo putting her AAA Reina de Reinas championship on the line.
The end came when Purrazzo submitted Rok-C with the Venus de Milo armbar following some failed attempts at the Fujiwara armbar.
Afterward, Maria Kanellis-Bennett and a contingent of ROH talent that weren’t welcome in Impact confronted her with Kanellis-Bennett saying she was taking the titles. Despite some Impact help, the group was laid out by the ROH invaders to end the show.
It’s the first ROH title reign for Purrazzo who is also a two-time Impact Knockouts Champion. She lost the title to Mickie James at last October’s Bound for Glory and was unable to reclaim it in a rematch at last Saturday’s Hard to Kill.
The loss ends Rok-C’s short reign with the new title she won in a tournament final. She defended the title successfully nine times, mainly in indie promotions outside ROH. Purrazzo challenged her to the winner take all match at December’s Final Battle.
Former Impact Knockouts Champion and current AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Deonna Purrazzo’s road to her January 8th Hard to Kill pay-per-view challenge of current champion Mickie James will go through Mercedes Martinez on next Thursday’s show.
The hopeful champion-to-be also has her next challenge lined up the week after as she will face Ring of Honor Women’s Champion Rok-C in the latter’s promotional debut in what will be a winner takes all match.
Martinez appeared via video on Thursday’s Impact, saying she heard Purrazzo mention her last week when being given the Knockout of the Year award and challenged her to the match next week.
While the two have never squared off in Impact, they have had several singles matches through the years including for Purrazzo’s then-Knockouts title on a WrestlePro show this past October. It was announced on Wednesday that Martinez has signed with AEW, but this match had already been taped prior to that announcement.
It will be a winner take all match on the January 13th edition of Impact when Purrazzo faces ROH titleholder Rok-C. As part of ROH Final Battle, Purrazzo made a surprise appearance and challenged Rok-C to put her title on the line against her AAA Reina de Reinas title. Depending on the outcome of the James match at Hard to Kill, the Knockouts title could be on the line as well.
That match will be taped on Monday, January 9th at the post-Hard to Kill TV tapings.
Quinn McKay joined the broadcast from the holiday-decorated ROH Studio and wished the viewers Happy Holidays. McKay then ran down the card for the show, which will feature the annual Christmas surprise twelve man tag, as well as an ROH Women’s Championship match between current champion Rok-C and Holidead.
A special vignette aired showing Josh Woods and Brian Johnson opening special “presents” that featured the names of their respective teammates. Although the names weren’t revealed, Woods was delighted with his team while Johnson was not.
ROH Women’s World Champion Rok-C defeated Holidead in a title match (13:30)
This was a good title match between two competitors that seemed to match up very well.
Holidead tried to use her size advantage to control the champion throughout the beginning stage of the match, but Rok-C read the room and fended it off well. When Holidead went to the outside, Rok-C attempted a dive but was stopped dead in her tracks when Holidead caught her and slammed her into the turnbuckle.
After a short commercial break, Holidead started to lose her grip on the match. Rok-C hit a knee to the face, and followed it up shortly after with a pair of double knees to the rib area of Holidead. Holidead went on to respond with a swing out flatliner that warranted a near fall, but Rok-C would deliver a running knee shortly after.
In the final stages of the match, both women continued to trade big moves. Holidead hit a backbreaker that resulted in the closest near fall of the match, but Rok-C was able to find that final wind and hit her modified Code Red shortly after for the win.
Dalton Castle had a backstage vignette celebrating Christmas with Dak Draper and his “boys”. Things went awry quickly and Draper started throwing things around.
Christmas Wildcard Twelve Man Tag Team Match: Team Woods (Bandido, Jay Briscoe, Josh Woods, Mark Briscoe, Matt Taven & Silas Young) defeated Team Johnson (Brian Johnson, Flip Gordon, Homicide, Kenny King, Rey Horus & Rhett Titus) (20:45)
This was a blast as always.
Homicide and Jay Briscoe locked up as the tags began to roll in. Woods and Titus got a nice sequence in on the mat, with Woods heavily targeting the arm and scoring a few near falls out of it.
After a commercial break, Flip Gordon and Matt Taven became the legal men. They had a small back and forth before the focus shifted to a face off between Rey Horus and Bandido.
Everybody else included in the match hopped off the apron and let the two luchadors do their own thing. Bandido was the first to strike, springing off the ropes and jumping over Horus. They traded a few hurricanranas before coming to a stalemate — which was applauded by their respective teammates.
King and Mark Briscoe began to tee off on one another shortly after, which led to Titus and Jay Briscoe entering the ring. The commentary team sold the “nostalgia” aspect of the showdown, as the history between the two teams dates back to 2009.
The match fell apart at this point, with everybody in sight hitting a big dive to the outside onto various opponents. Flip Gordon rushed to the commentary booth and began to chat up a storm, before realizing he was still in the match and making a massive dive off the stage.
The final moments of the match saw Brian Johnson try to roll up Mark Briscoe with a handful of tights. After the fall was unsuccessful, Briscoe scolded Johnson and told him to “be a man”. This led to both men teeing off on each other with forearms, but Jay Briscoe eventually came in and helped his brother. The duo scored the win for their team after a Doomsday Device on Johnson.
Everybody in the match celebrated in the ring as the show went off the air.
Final Thoughts: This was a great sendoff show for this era of Ring Of Honor.
Thanks to all that have kept up with my weekly ROH recaps for the past 16 months. Although I’m not sure what the future holds for both me and the supposed return of ROH in April, I appreciate anybody that has stuck around along the way.

Rok-C appeared at last weekend’s ROH Final Battle event, retaining the ROH Women’s title in a win over Willow Nightingale. After the bout, AAA Reina de Reinas Champion and Impact Wrestling talent Deonna Purrazzo confronted her and challenged her to a match for both the ROH and AAA titles, which Rok-C accepted.
In addition to Rok-C, it was reported in this week’s Observer Newsletter that several talent used by AEW in the past would be attending the tryouts, including the Renegade Twins, Cole Carter, and Nikita Knight.
Saturday night’s “End of an Era” Final Battle pay-per-view included a surprise appearance by Deonna Purrazzo.

Purrazzo came out to the ring at Final Battle with her AAA Reina de Reinas Championship belt. While confronting Rok-C, Purrazzo said she wants the ROH Women’s World title. Purrazzo said that, when she defeats Mickie James for the Knockouts Championship at Impact Wrestling’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view, she’s challenging Rok-C to face her in a winner-take-all title match.
Purrazzo implied that the match would be taking place in Impact Wrestling. Rok-C accepted Purrazzo’s challenge and shook her hand.
Hard to Kill is taking place in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, January 8.
Purrazzo is a two-time Impact Knockouts Champion. She won the Reina de Reinas title from Faby Apache at Lucha Libre AAA’s Triplemania XXIX this August.

Final Battle was the final live ROH event before the promotion goes on hiatus for the first quarter of 2022. ROH has said that it will be taking that time to “reimagine” the company. ROH talent contracts aren’t being renewed after Final Battle.
The Women’s World Championship match for ROH’s Final Battle pay-per-view is now set.
On the latest edition of ROH TV, Willow Nightingale defeated Mandy Leon in a number one contender’s match. Willow will challenge Rok-C for the ROH Women’s World Championship at Final Battle this Saturday (December 11).
