New Tag Team Champions crowned at ROH Final Battle

New ROH Tag Team Champions have been crowned.

Sammy Guevara and The Beast Mortos defeated Tommy Billington and Adam Priest to win the titles at Final Battle on Friday. With the win, Guevara now becomes a three-time ROH Tag Team Champion, while Mortos has won the title for the first time. The finish had Hechicero climb on the apron and interfere, allowing Guevara to hit a low blow on Billington and Mortos pinning him with a moonsault to become the new champions.

Earlier in the night, Hechicero approached Guevara and Mortos about working together in the Survival of the Fittest match for the ROH World Championship. The three came to an understanding that Hechicero would be in their corner for the Tag Team title match, then would look out for one another in the main event.

Guevara and Rush vacated the titles when it was announced that the latter would be out of action dealing with a knee injury. Rush was also set to challenge for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle and as a result, the match was changed to a Survival of the Fittest match that also includes Blake Christian and Komander.

Tony Khan: New ROH Tag Team title belts to debut at Supercard of Honor

ROH owner Tony Khan has announced that new Tag Team title belts will be unveiled at Friday’s Supercard of Honor pay-per-view.

In an interview with Battleground Podcast released Wednesday, Khan stated that new belts will debut on Friday’s show in the Reach for the Sky ladder match to crown new ROH Tag Team Champions.

“There will be new belts, we’ve retired the old design… I’m very, very excited for this pay-per-view on Friday, and one of the major reasons is the Reach for the Sky tag team ladder match paying tribute to the late, great Jay Briscoe.”

Jay and brother Mark Briscoe were the ROH Tag Team Champions when Jay tragically passed away in a car crash on January 17 of this year.

Khan said that Mark Briscoe was instrumental in the decision to crown new Tag Team Champions, and that the ladder match was a way to pay tribute to both Briscoe brothers.

“Mark Briscoe thought [the ladder match] was a great idea, and that was important to me too. Having his opinion and having his buy-in to this made all the difference in the world.”

Khan also announced in the interview that the Honor Club streaming service has hit 15,000 subscribers, up from 10,000 when he last announced subscription numbers at the post-Revolution media scrum on March 5.

“We have more subscribers than ever before for Ring of Honor streaming, which is amazing. We’ve just re-launched the service [Honor Club] from scratch, and we’ve already reached about 15,000 subscribers for Ring of Honor right now, just for the TV, which is amazing.”

ROH Supercard of Honor airs Friday at 7 p.m. Eastern time on pay-per-view, with a Zero Hour pre-show set for 6 p.m. Eastern.

The full interview can be seen below.
