Eddy Thorpe added to New Year’s Evil NXT Championship match

Eddy Thorpe gets another shot.

After he complained about what happened during last week’s title match, Trick Williams on Tuesday said he would defend the title at New Year’s Evil on January 7 in Los Angeles against both Thorpe and Oba Femi, who won the Iron Survivor gauntlet match at Deadline earlier this month. The show ended with the three brawling, with Femi standing tall.

Last week’s show saw a double pin take place in a title match between Williams and Thorpe. Post-show footage saw Ava declare Williams the champion, angering Thorpe who eventually pushed Shawn Micheals out of frustration. On this week’s show, Thorpe said that his foot was under the rope and hadn’t been pinned.

Thorpe in recent weeks has found ways to get to championship matches. After qualifying for the Iron Survivor Challenge, he was found laid out backstage and was ruled ineligible for the match. The following week on NXT, he ended up getting a match out of Williams for the title. The end of the show saw Thorpe reveal to NXT GM Ava that it had all been a ruse so he could get a title match without actually having to compete in the Iron Survivor Challenge.

Here is the updated card for New Year’s Evil:

  • NXT Championship: Trick Williams defends against Oba Femi and Eddy Thorpe
  • NXT Women’s Championship: Roxanne Perez defends against Giulia

WWE NXT Championship match ends in double pin

Tuesday’s NXT Championship match on WWE NXT TV ended in controversy.

Trick Williams defending his NXT Championship against Eddy Thorpe in the show’s main event ended with a double pin and confusion surrounding who is the rightful NXT Champion as two referees were involved in the finish.

After the first referee was taken out inadvertently following a DDT from Thorpe, a second official entered to call the rest of the match. As Williams hit his Trick Shot finish, the original referee was revived.

Williams and Thorpe then fell into one another and landed in such a way that one referee counted the pin for Thorpe, and one for Williams.

NXT general manager Ava came to ringside as the show went off the air to mediate the dispute between the officials.

In an angle posted to social media, WWE revealed that Williams is still the NXT Champion as a result of the double pin, with Thorpe getting physical with Shawn Michaels:

The matter will certainly be addressed further on next week’s taped edition of WWE NXT on Christmas Eve.

It’s on for Ridge Holland and Trick Williams, but it’s all over for Chase U.

In the main event of Tuesday’s NXT, Ridge Holland defeated Andre Chase in a number one contender’s match for the NXT Championship, earning a title match for Deadline on December 7. The stipulation had been if Chase were to lose, the relationship between him and Chase U members Riley Osborne, Thea Hail, and Duke Hudson would come to an end.

Towards the end of the match, Chase made a fierce comeback after all of his students were laid out at ringside, including Hail after Osborne accidently took her out while going for a dive on Holland. Chase hit a middle rope powerbomb for a nearfall, but ended up falling to the Redeemer (implant DDT) for the win.

The end of NXT saw Chase near tears as he looked at his fallen students, despondent over the results.

Shortly after NXT ended, Chase U reacted to the news on social media, including Chase:

Trick Williams crowned NXT Champion on CW premiere

Trick Williams is NXT Champion once again.

Williams defeated Ethan Page in the main event of Tuesday’s show, the first episode to air on The CW. The finish had Page hitting a Go To Sleep right in front of guest referee CM Punk. After Williams kicked out, Page went for the Ego’s Edge. Williams escaped, grabbing onto Punk in the corner. Page went for a boot but Williams dodged and connected with the Trick kick to win the championship for a second time.

After the match, Page got to his feet where Punk met him with a GTS. The show ended with Williams celebrating with the NXT Championship.

Page had held the title for 86 days, defeating Williams, Je’Von Evans, and Shawn Spears back at NXT Heatwave on July 7. The finish of that match had Williams connecting with his finish on Page, who fell in a cover position on top of Evans. Spears held Williams back as Page won the championship on a fluke.

In the months since, Williams had been looking to regain the title from Page, but was met by Pete Dunne, who repeatedly attacked Williams, telling him to “figure it out.” The two eventually met in a match to determine Page’s challenger for the premiere episode of NXT on The CW. Williams defeated Dunne to become the new number-one contender.

Starting next week, Raw will move to two hours for the remainder of 2024 on the USA Network. On January 6, the show will leave cable television and the USA Network for Netflix.

Ethan Page has his next title defense set.

During Sunday’s NXT No Mercy premium live event, general manager Ava announced that whoever won between Ethan Page and Joe Hendry in the main event would defend the NXT Championship on October 1, when NXT premieres on the CW Network.

Page successfully retained the title after hitting Hendry with a DDT on the NXT title and an Ego’s Edge, with guest referee Trick Williams counting to three.

After the match, Pete Dunne arrived at ringside and dragged Williams out of the ring, giving him the bitter end on the floor. The last moments of No Mercy saw Dunne staring down Page, who continued celebrating his win.

NXT’s move to the CW is just one of three moves WWE is making in the next few months. This ends Trick Williams’ run with the NXT Championship. He held it for 75 days, defeating Ilja Dragunov for the title on the first night of NXT Spring Breakin’ on April 23.

The main event of Heatwave was originally set to be Williams defending the title against Evans, who won a battle royal. However, Page defeated Evans in a singles match on the sme night after he successfully argued to NXT GM Ava that since Oro Mensah distracted him, he was never eliminated in the battle royal that Evans won. Trick Williams to challenge for WWE NXT Championship at Spring Breakin’

Trick Williams will challenge Ilja Dragunov for the WWE NXT Championship at Spring Breakin’.

It was revealed during Tuesday’s WWE NXT episode that Trick Williams will challenge Ilja Dragunov for the NXT title on the special Tuesday, April 23 Spring Breakin’ edition of the show.

After a victory over Carmelo Hayes in the main event of last Saturday’s Stand & Deliver PLE, Williams stated on Tuesday’s episode that he wanted another shot at Dragunov’s NXT title. Dragunov initially refused the challenge, but eventually agreed to put the title up under the condition that if Williams loses, he must leave NXT.

Hayes also appeared in Tuesday’s show-closing segment with Williams & Dragunov, laying both out while challenging Williams to a steel cage match for next week’s NXT show.

This year’s Spring Breakin’ will be a two-night event on Tuesday, April 23 & Tuesday, April 30.

No other matches have been announced for Spring Breakin’ to this point, but an Oba Femi vs. Ivar North American title match appears set for one night of the event following an Ivar appearance on Tuesday’s show, and an AOP vs. Nathan Frazer & Axiom NXT Tag title match could take place as well.

The lineup for the Tuesday, April 23 WWE NXT Spring Breakin’:

NXT Championship match official for Stand & Deliver

Ilja Dragunov’s challenger for Stand & Deliver is now set.

Tony D’Angelo defeated Carmelo Hayes at NXT Roadblock on Tuesday to become the new number one contender. With the win, D’Angelo will now face the NXT Champion at Stand & Deliver on April 6.

The finish of the match had Hayes distracted by Trick Williams’ music. That allowed D’Angelo to pick up the win with his fisherman’s suplex. After the match, D’Angelo revealed that he was the one behind the music, but then introduced Williams, who came out through the crowd and attacked both Hayes and his security team.

On last week’s NXT, Hayes and Dragunov were about to sign for a match against one another when D’Angelo came to the ring. He said he had talked to NXT General Manager Ava, and the contract now would he him taking on Hayes where the winner would face Dragunov at Stand & Deliver.

Williams had been off TV since the events of NXT Vengeance Day last month, where he was blindsided by Hayes, who clipped his leg and repeatedly attacked Williams with a steel chair. Hayes would later reveal that he was the one who attacked Hayes backstage last fall.

Two title matches official for WWE NXT Vengeance Day

Two title matches are official for next month’s Vengeance Day event in Tennessee.

The end of Tuesday’s show saw Roxanne Perez win a battle royal to become the new number one contender for Lyra Valkyria’s NXT Women’s Championship. Earlier in the show, Ilja Dragunov and Trick Williams confirmed their NXT Championship match for February 4 after it was originally set to take place at New Year’s Evil.

The final four participants in the battle royal consisted of Perez, Kelani Jordan, Kiana James, and Fallon Henley. The match was then turned into a fatal four-way with Perez pinning Jordan to become the new number one contender. A contract signing will take place on next week’s NXT between Perez and champion Lyra Valkyria.

Dragunov resurfaced on Tuesday and told Williams that their NXT Championship match was on for Vengeance Day. This upset Carmelo Hayes, who pointed out that he and Williams are in the semifinals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and the finals are at Vengeance Day. Williams later suggested that he could work both matches.

Also on the show, Dragon Lee challenged Oba Femi to a rematch for the North American Championship. Femi, who rejected a match against Lee right then and there, said that he would take the match for Vengeance Day under consideration.

Here is the updated card for NXT Vengeance Day on February 4:
