Ethan Page crowned NXT Champion at Heatwave

Ethan Page is the new NXT Champion.

Page pinned Je’Von Evans in a fatal four-way match that took place in the main event of NXT Heatwave. The finish of the match had champion Trick Williams strike Je’Von Evans with the trick shot, then followed it up with another trick shot to Ethan Page, who fell on top of Evans. Shawn Spears dragged Williams out of the ring as the referee counted to three, giving Page the win.

This ends Trick Williams’ run with the NXT Championship. He held it for 75 days, defeating Ilja Dragunov for the title on the first night of NXT Spring Breakin’ on April 23.

The main event of Heatwave was originally set to be Williams defending the title against Evans, who won a battle royal. However, Page defeated Evans in a singles match on the sme night after he successfully argued to NXT GM Ava that since Oro Mensah distracted him, he was never eliminated in the battle royal that Evans won. After Williams was pinned by Spears on the following episode of NXT, Ava made the decision to turn the Heatwave main event into a four-way.

Je’Von Evans to challenge for WWE NXT Championship at Heatwave

Je’Von Evans is going to Heatwave.

Evans won the 25-man battle royal that opened Tuesday’s NXT. The final four participants included Evans, Dragon Lee, Shawn Spears, and TNA star Frankie Kazarian. After Kazarian and Lee were eliminated, Spears was the final elimination after eating a kick by Evans. As a result of the win, he will now challenge Trick Williams for the NXT title on July 7 in Toronto.

However, Ethan Page complained to Ava backstage about what had happened in the battle royal. He was never eliminated, as Oro Mensah entered the ring and brawled with Page to the back. Page and Evans ended up wrestling in the main event, with Page winning.

Williams, who was on commentary during the match, entered the ring and the two brawled until Spears entered the ring, attacking Williams. Evans came off the top rope and all four wound up on the floor, the NXT title in the middle as the show ended.

Since making his debut in NXT earlier this year, Evans had been on a winning streak until last week’s NXT, when he was pinned by Shawn Spears. Before that, Evans had teamed with Williams recently to defeat Gallus.

Number one contender’s battle royal to open WWE NXT

A battle royal to determine Trick Williams’ next challenger will open NXT.

WWE announced on social media that the 25-man battle royal will kick off Tuesday’s show. The winner of the match will earn a shot at Williams’ title at NXT Heatwave on July 7.

Last week’s show saw Cody Rhodes tell Williams about the battle royal, mentioning that wrestlers from “different locker rooms” would be in the match. Williams successfully defended the title at NXT Battleground, defeating Ethan Page.

Jordynne Grace, a wrestler from TNA, has made appearances for NXT in recent weeks, losing to Roxanne Perez at NXT Battleground thanks to a distraction from Tatum Paxley and fellow TNA wrestler Ash by Elegance, the former Dana Brooke. Paxley went on to unsuccessfully challenge for Grace’s TNA Knockouts title at this past weekend’s TNA Against All Odds event.
