Andre Chase announces new in-ring name following WWE NXT release

Following his release, the former Andre Chase (Chance Barrow) will be using a very similar wrestling name to the one he had in WWE NXT.

Barrow sent out a social media post today announcing that he’ll now be going by “The Professor” Andre Chance. He is keeping “Andre” as part of the moniker while using his real-life first name as his new wrestling surname. Barrow is accepting bookings for matches, meet and greets, signings, and seminars.

During his time in NXT, Barrow was the leader of Chase U, a college-themed faction with Barrow serving as the head of the fictitious university. He was a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion with Duke Hudson and Ridge Holland as his respective partners.

Andre Chase’s real-life college degree —

Barrow recently obtained his actual college degree, earning a bachelor’s in sports management from the University of Florida. His graduation ceremony took place just over a week after his release from WWE.

“This degree has given me a strong foundation in the business side of sports and entertainment. Beyond the classroom, the connections I have made along the way have meant everything to me,” he wrote on Instagram. “The Gator alumni network is truly something special. Thank you to everyone who offered guidance, support, and encouragement throughout this journey, especially my friends and family, who made it possible.

News of his release broke on April 24, with Barrow being let go during WWE’s post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts. He had wrestled under the name Harlem Bravado before his WWE career.

Andre Chase announces he has earned his Bachelor’s degree

Andre Chase announced that he earned his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Florida.

He shared the update on Instagram while sharing photos from the graduation ceremony.

“The best educators understand the learning never stops! Excited to share that I have officially earned my Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Florida. Class of 2026! This degree has given me a strong foundation in the business side of sports and entertainment. Beyond the classroom, the connections I have made along the way have meant everything to me. The Gator alumni network is truly something special. Thank you to everyone who offered guidance, support, and encouragement throughout this journey, especially my friends and family, who made it possible. Go Gators!”

Chase was among the WWE stars released in April. He signed with the company in 2021 and was active on NXT, most notably known for founding Chase University.

Thea Hail, a former Chase U member, Ivar, Ethan Page and more from the wrestling community congratulated Chase on the accomplishment.

Ridge Holland earns WWE NXT title match for Deadline, Chase U forced to disband

It’s on for Ridge Holland and Trick Williams, but it’s all over for Chase U.

In the main event of Tuesday’s NXT, Ridge Holland defeated Andre Chase in a number one contender’s match for the NXT Championship, earning a title match for Deadline on December 7. The stipulation had been if Chase were to lose, the relationship between him and Chase U members Riley Osborne, Thea Hail, and Duke Hudson would come to an end.

Towards the end of the match, Chase made a fierce comeback after all of his students were laid out at ringside, including Hail after Osborne accidently took her out while going for a dive on Holland. Chase hit a middle rope powerbomb for a nearfall, but ended up falling to the Redeemer (implant DDT) for the win.

The end of NXT saw Chase near tears as he looked at his fallen students, despondent over the results.

Shortly after NXT ended, Chase U reacted to the news on social media, including Chase:

Here is the updated card for Deadline:

  • NXT Championship: Trick Williams defends against Ridge Holland
  • Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge: Wes Lee vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Nathan Frazer vs. 2 others TBD
  • Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge: Sol Ruca vs. Zaria vs. Stephanie Vaquer vs. 2 others TBD

WWE NXT live results: Fate of Chase U on the line

Tonight on NXT, the fate of Chase University is on the line.

Andre Chase and his former student Ridge Holland will do battle on tonight’s episode. The winner becomes the number one contender to NXT Champion Trick Williams. And there is also the stipulation that, if Chase loses tonight, he will have to close Chase U forever.

A few Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying matches are on tap as the road to Deadline continues. Zaria vs. Wren Sinclair and Stephanie Vaquer vs. Jaida Parker are set on the women’s side. A men’s qualifying match between Nathan Frazer and Eddy Thorpe is also taking place.

Tony D’Angelo vs. Brooks Jensen has been announced for tonight as well. Plus, Karmen Petrovic & Ashante Adonis take on Brinley Reece & Dion Lennox in mixed tag team action.

An appearance by Fatal Influence is also scheduled after Fallon Henley retained her Women’s North American Championship against Kelani Jordan last week.

Join us for live coverage starting at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Vic Joseph and Booker T do a stand-up intro at ringside welcoming viewers to the show from a sound stage at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. Opening the show is a qualifier for the Iron Survivor.

Lots of Chase U shirts among the live studio audience. Also among the audience are several tag teams watching the match. More appear as the opener progresses. Some are even at ringside.

Before his match tonight, Nathan Frazier is with NXT Tag Team Championship co-holder Axiom. Frazier is pumped for the qualifier. Axiom not so much. Gallus is seen behind them. A tag team stalking the scene is foreshadowing what unfolds during the opener.

Nathan Frazier (with Axiom) defeated Eddy Thorpe in an Iron Survivor qualifying match

Frazier pinned Thorpe after a Phoenix Splash. They had a good match, but it was a backdrop to all the tag team drama. All the teams from the NXT roster come down to ringside. They are all apparently scouting the tag champs, including when one of the champs is in a singles match. With all of them out there, a brawl breaks out just before Frazier and Thorpe go home.

All of the tag teams start closing in on the ringside area as the match cuts to a commercial break. When the show returns from the break, the teams are all around ringside as if it was a lumberjack match. A huge brawl erupts at ringside. Frazier does a dive on to a pile of bodies on the floor. Back in the ring, Frazier counters Thorpe. Frazier then climbs the turnbuckles and leaps off the top with a Phoenix Splash. Frazier then scores a three count.

The teams brawling continues as security pours out for a pull-apart.

Great vignette with Andre Chase giving an impassioned speech as clips highlight the success of Chase U.

Another video package has Giulia delivering a promo with her using the “Beautiful Madness” moniker.

In a backstage skit, Kelani Jordan asks Robert Stone or Stevie Turner to get her an Iron Survivor qualifying match against Giulia.

Stephanie Vaquer defeated Jaida Parker in an Iron Survivor qualifying match

Vaquer pinned Parker after Vaquer’s package neckbreaker combo finisher. Lola Vice comes down to ringside just before the finish, and Vice is carrying a brick. That is a call back to a previous match. Parker had Vaquer set for the hip attack finisher, but Parker is distracted by Vice being at ringside. Vaquer capitalizes and executes her finisher on Parker. Vaquer then scores a three count.

They had a good match, and they were given time. The match goes through a commercial break. Parker got a near fall just before they went home, getting a two count after a Falcon Arrow. Soon thereafter, out comes Vice. Parker and Vice seem likely to clash again soon, while Vaquer moves on to the Iron Survivor Challenge.

Brinley Reece and Dion Lennox are in the locker room dressed in Oregon State gear. This was cross-promotion with CW to hype a college football game on Saturday, which is part of CW’s Pac 12 football package. Lennox and Reece deliver some bad lines ahead of their mixed tag team match.

Later in the show, another locker room skit has Karmen Petrovic and Ashante “Thee” Adonis dressed in Washington State merch. That school is plays Oregon State on CW this weekend. Adonis and Petrovic deliver their lines decent enough, and then they compliment each other’s appearance.

NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez was cutting a promo on the beach in video uploaded to social media. Sol Ruca photos bombs Perez and confronts her on the beach, much to the chagrin of Perez.

Tony D’Angelo (with Adrianna Rizzo) defeated Brooks Jensen (with Shawn Spears)

D’Angelo pinned Jensen after a spinebuster. “The Don” teases hurting his knee in the match, which played into a post-match angle. Jensen got his heat back by chop blocking D’Angelo in the injured knee. Spears had offered a handshake to D’Angelo, which set up the sneak attack by Jensen.

Karmen Petrovic & Ashante “Thee” Adonis defeated Brinley Reece & Dio Lennox in a mixed tag team match

Petrovic pinned Reece to win the match. Adonis wanted a kiss on the cheek, but Reece slaps him instead. However, that distraction allowed Petrovic to land a roundhouse kick on Reece. Petrovic then covers Reece for the three count. This was more gaga than anything else so far.

Lots more plugs for the Pac 12 football games on CW, and even more to come.

Ridge Holland cuts a promo ahead of his match tonight against Andrea Chase, who Holland vows to defeat. Holland says Chase U will be lost without their leader.

Zaria defeated Wren Sinclair in an Iron Survivor qualifying match

Zaria pinned Sinclair after a F-5. Zaria is still getting a monster push, but Sinclair did get some counters and near falls. Charlie Dempsey was also in her corner. Zaria still got to win in mostly decisive fashion, and she is in the Iron Survivor Challenge.

In a skit from the trainer’s room, Tony D’Angelo is angry. NXT GM Ava sees the anger, and she makes a match next week against Shawn Spears. That is, if D’Angelo is cleared to wrestle (in storyline).

Eddy Thorpe throws a tantrum with Ava. Thorpe is such a good character, but he is booked to look like such a jerk.

Fatal Influence are headed to the ring to deliver a promo. After a commercial break, they are in the ring. Jacy Jayne, Jazmyn Nyz and NXT Women’s North American Champion Fallon Henley get to cut promos. Henley announces an open challenge for her title next week, and out comes Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson to interrupt the promo. They want to accept the open challenge. Out comes Nikkita Lyons, and she too wants to challenge Henley. More women enter the scene. Adrianna Rizzo jumps Lyons, and a hug brawl erupts at ringside with seemingly everyone involved.

As the smoke clears, Tatum Paxley is in the ring with Henley. Paxley executes her finisher on Henley, and Paxley poses with the North American title belt. This sets up Henley defending the title against Paxley next Tueday on NXT.

Karmen Petrovic and Ashante Adonis are chatting backstage and there is a spark between them. Nikkita Lyons interrupts to ask Adonis to text her back. Petrovic is upset by this, and she storms off.

A really good video package hypes the Iron Survivor Challenge.

Ethan Page vows to regain the NXT Championship in a backstage promo, and that begins with qualifying for the Iron Survivor.

In a separate (but related) locker room skit, Axiom tells Nathan Frazier that Axiom is booked against Page in a qualifying match. This plays on what sometimes seems like the only tag team subplot in WWE, which the partners are not on the same page.

Chase U is featured in another vignette with Andre Chase. This was great like the other hype video earlier in the show.

NXT Champion Trick Williams gets a full entrance as he comes out in street clothes. Trick will provide guest commentary for the main event.

Ridge Holland defeated Andre Chase in a number one contender’s match

Holland pinned Chase after the Redeemer finisher. Chase kicked out on a lot of near falls, until he could kick out no longer. With that, Andre Chase must leave Chase U.

The Chase U Crew is watching on monitors backstage. Before the show cuts to its final commercial break, Holland pulls up the floor mats to expose the bare concrete. Chase fights back with a somersault senton off the apron. Chase poses with the crowd as the show cuts to the break.

Chase was doing well for himself when Holland went to fetch a metal folding chair. Holland went to use the chair as a weapon, but the referee took it from him. The ref turns him back to get rid of the chair, and Holland kicks Chase in the groin with a low blow. Holland then delivers an implant DDT for a near fall. Duke Hudson, who along with Thea Hail, came to ringside during the match, and he pulled the referee out of the ring to stop the count. Somehow, this was not a disqualification.

Hudson and Riley Osborne would both get involved as the match progresses. Hudson is rammed through a wall on a gimmicked section of the set. Osborne flew in on a flip dive that wipes out Holland and Hail. Holland counters Osborne, and Holland picks up Osborne with a military press. Holland then tosses Osborne over the ropes to the floor like the Ultimate Warrior might have done to some jobber in ’89.

In the closing moments, Holland faces off with Chase in a slugfest. Comeback by Chase as he runs wild. Chase powerbombs Holland off the middle rope for a close three count. That would be the final near fall, as Holland soon cuts off Chase.

Chase jumps off the top rope with a high cross, but Holland hangs on with the roll through. Holland then executes his Redeemer (implant DDT) finisher. Holland then hooks a leg for the deciding pinfall.

Post-mathch, Chase is nearly in tears as he locks at his fallen students, all in some way were laid out at the hands of Holland. This was seemingly supposed to be a serious moment, but some people in the studio audience begin singing the “Hey hey hey, goodbye” song. That somewhat killed the mood, but I chuckled nonetheless.

Andre Chase returns on WWE NXT

Andre Chase is back.

Chase made his return after the opening match of NXT, where Tiffany Stratton defeated Thea Hail to retain the NXT Women’s Championship. Hail had the match won with the kimura lock, but Drew Gulak and Charlie Dempsey at ringside distracted the referee, allowing Stratton to recover and score the win with a rollup. Dempsey and Gulak then turned on Hail and Duke Hudson, who was also at ringside. This brought out Chase, who cleared the ring.

After Chase lost to Bron Breakker at Spring Breakin’ 2023 back on April 25, he took a leave of absence from Chase U and NXT. In the time since, Duke Hudson had taken over as the head of Chase U. However, Gulak and Dempsey also started to appear in Chase U segments in recent weeks, seemingly attempting to take over the school.

Hail had won the opportunity to face Stratton for the title two weeks ago, winning a battle royal. In the weeks leading to the match, Hail had been seen training with Dempsey and Gulak, including teaching her the kimura lock.

Triple threat tag team match set for next week’s WWE NXT

A triple threat tag team match is set for next week’s NXT.

Additionally, Stevie Turner will make her NXT in-ring debut, Indus Sher will face The Creed Brothers, and Cora Jade will meet Lyra Valkyria.

Both The Dyad and Edris Enofe & Malik Blade confronted The New Day on this week’s NXT, wanting a NXT Tag Team title shot. This led to a tag team match being set up for next week, where the winners would be added to the three-way match for the NXT Tag Team titles at Vengeance Day. Later, Duke Hudson announced that he was able to add Chase U to the match.

After The Creeds defeated Drew Gulak & Hank Walker on Tuesday’s NXT, they were confronted by a reunited Indus Sher and Jinder Mahal, who issued the challenge to the Creeds for next week. The Creeds accepted.

McKenzie Mitchell attempted to interview Stevie Turner on Tuesday’s NXT. Instead, she appeared on a video screen and largely ignored Mitchell’s questions, eventually announcing she’ll make her in-ring debut on next week’s show.

Cora Jade ran down Lyra Valkyria in a backstage interview. She opened her locker and found a feather, upset that Valkyria had put it in there.

Here is the updated lineup for next week’s NXT:

  • The New Day Tag Team Invitational: The Dyad vs. Edris Enofe & Malik Blade vs. Andre Chase & Duke Hudson
  • Indus Sher vs. The Creed Brothers
  • Cora Jade vs. Lyra Valkyria
  • Stevie Turner in-ring debut

NXT Level Up results: Three debuts

The show opened with a new intro package that showed off NXT’s greatest successes (Seth Rollins, Bianca Belair, Big E, etc.). No one on the current NXT brand was included, which seems a little strange.

Javier Bernal defeated Guru Raaj

Bernal opened the match with a prolonged headlock. Bernal held on to this headlock for dear life, maintaining it on the mat and standing. Raaj eventually escaped and gained a foothold with a dropkick following a series of quick pin attempts.

Bernal fought to a standing position after a submission attempt from Raaj. Bernal led a short offensive sequence, punctuated with a double-knee facebreaker (basically a codebreaker). Bernal pinned Raaj, bringing the opening match to an end.

Ivy Nile defeated Thea Hail

This was not good.

Hale came to the ring with a long red cape. I think this was meant to be a reference to her ‘spartan’ heritage.

Nile opened the match with a drop from the fireman’s carry onto the top rope. Nile tossed Hail across the ring and scored multiple strike downs. Nile connected with a shiranui from the top and a German suplex.

Hail launched a very short-lived rally, but after awkwardly rolling around on the mat, Nile locked in an equally as awkward dragon sleeper; the hold forced Hail to submit.

Bodhi Hayward and Andre Chase defeated Channing Lauren and Troy Donovan

This was a fine little match. Lauren and Donovan looked great and were good in their role.

Lauren and Chase opened the match, trading wrist locks. Chase took the lead from the sequence, laying the boots to Lauren before tagging to Bodhi. Donovan tagged in as well, but Bodhi maintained his team’s lead with a wrist lock that he passed over to Chase.

Lauren connected with a sneaky strike while Chase was looking away. Donovan took this opportunity, taking control of the match. Lauren and Donovan then worked to isolate Chase from Bodhi.

Chase scored a hot tag after a long struggle. Bodhi knocked both opponents off their feet in a burst of energy. After a series of slams, Chase tagged back in. Chase and Hayward hit a strange double team move, leading to a pinfall in their favour.

Cameron Grimes vs. Andre Chase added to WWE NXT

A new match has been added to tonight’s NXT.

It was announced this morning that Cameron Grimes will challenge Andre Chase following their confrontation last week on NXT. During last week’s show, Chase told Grimes that Duke Hudson attacking Grimes and cutting off his hair was a “teachable moment” for Chase’s students. Grimes didn’t seem pleased at Chase’s comments.

Already announced for tonight’s show are two ladder matches that will determine the entrance order for both of the upcoming WarGames matches taking place at the titular NXT event on December 5. The women’s match will be between Kay Lee Ray and Dakota Kai, while the men’s ladder match match will be determined by fan vote.

Other matches for tonight’s show include Kyle O’Reilly and Von Wagner facing Legado Del Fantasma (Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde), with the winners challenging NXT Tag Team Champions Imperium (Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner) at WarGames, as well as an “all-inclusive” invitational featuring Joe Gacy. Gacy is set to challenge NXT Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong for the title at WarGames.

WWE 205 Live results: Solo Sikoa vs. Andre Chase

Elektra Lopez defeated Valentina Feroz

Lopez was dominant in her 205 Live debut.

Feroz tried and failed in taking the match to the mat following the opening bell. Lopez used her strength to lock out Feroz in effect, even as Feroz tried working the arm.

Late in the match, Feroz started a rally that saw her connect with ineffective offence. After withstanding the flurry, Lopez landed a sit-down powerbomb to close the match.

Amari Miller defeated Erica Yan

This match was nothing special, but also not actively bad.

Miller and Yan traded headlocks in the opening stretch, favouring Yan. Miller caught Yan on the ring’s skirt. Miller took the match to the mat where she worked the upper body with holds and strikes.

On the mat, Yan outmanoeuvred Miller and regained control leading to a sequence of suplexes. After the suplexes failed to end the match, Yan tried for a slam that Miller stalled out of. Miller capitalised on the pause, connecting with a boot followed by a knee to close the match.

Solo Sikoa defeated Andre Chase

While this match was nothing extraordinary in the ring, what does stand out is the crowd’s reaction to Sikoa. This might be the most energetic reaction I’ve seen since starting my 205 Live coverage nearly two years ago. People seem to like this guy.

The match opened with battling chants, mainly due to the student section that fills a corner of the CWC. Regardless, Sikoa gained a quick advantage. With solid strikes and a suplex over the ropes, Sikoa was entirely dominant.

Chase slid out of a Samoan drop, allowing Chase to land a swinging neck breaker and Thesz press. Chase then spelt out the name of his university, Chase U, in a cheerleader-esque sequence. Chase followed his routine with an extended choke on the mat.

Once Sikoa overpowered Chase on the mat, he landed a big kick, re-establishing his control as if it had never lapsed. Chase fled to the outside, successfully stunning Sikoa against the top rope. A top rope DDT followed, leaving Chase with a near fall. Chase tried to follow up only to be caught in a Samoan drop followed by a dive. Sikoa then pinned Chase to close his 205 Live debut.

WWE 205 Live results: Andre Chase vs. Trey Baxter

205 Live, unsurprisingly, took place from the NXT 2.0 set. The set was identical to NXT’s, except for an apron skirt and announce table top bearing 205 Live branding.

This show was second-rate. A reminder that 205 Live now runs against AEW Rampage after two hours of SmackDown. You would think that this scenario would lead to an exciting show at the very least, but instead, it’s 30 minutes of forgettable wrestling that will mean nothing come next Friday.

Valentina Feroz defeated Amari Miller

I wasn’t a fan of this match before the finish. The match was very flawed, but the finish was built to well, which I appreciate.

This match opened with an extended period of lousy grappling. Feroz worked the arm; Miller escaped with a strike. This happened multiple times.

Miller eventually began working Feroz on the mat. Feroz fought to her feet, delivering arm drags to gain control; this was short-lived as Miller stopped Feroz with a spinebuster. As Miller went in for the pin, Feroz caught Miller with an armbar. Miller tapped out soon after the hold was applied.

Boa (with Mei Ying) defeated Malik Blade

This was a squash and not a particularly enticing one—no way around it.

Boa opened the match by striking Blade down. Boa looked to Mei Ying, who sat on a throne, before continuing to brutalise Blade.

Blade fought his way back into the match before climbing to the top rope. A high crossbody seemingly left Blade in a good position, but Boa responded with a dragon sleeper into a forearm that closed the match.

Trey Baxter defeated Andre Chase

This match was fine, but it wasn’t anything that demanded attention.

After the opening sequence ended, Chase gained control with a nasty elbow. Chase began connecting with numerous strikes, cementing his lead. A belly-to-back suplex left Chase with a near fall.

Baxter fought free from ground control before connecting with a strike to the back of the head. A springboard moonsault followed but only yielded a two count. Baxter then climbed to the top rope but was interrupted by Chase, who regained advantage moments later.

Chase locked in a single leg crab before transitioning to an STF. After Baxter found the ropes, Chase tried for a tiger driver, but Baxter fought free. Baxter connected with a kick that sent Chase to the outside, allowing Baxter to land a tope.

Back in the ring, Baxter tried for a springboard but was met with a boot. Chase then hit the tiger driver, but Baxter kicked out of the pin that followed. A now frustrated Chase hoisted Baxter to the top rope, where Baxter regained control. Baxter landed a double stomp after sending Chase to the mat; this led directly to the decisive fall in favour of Baxter.

WWE 205 Live results: NXT Breakout Tournament qualifying matches

2021 NXT Breakout Tournament qualifier: Andre Chase defeated Guru Raaj

Looking back mere moments later, I can barely remember this match. It wasn’t awful, but it was utterly forgettable.

The match opened with back and forth grappling control. Finally, Raaj connected with a monkey flip before trying for multiple quick pins, ending the opening flow. Chase knocked Raaj into the rope, connecting with numerous strikes in the following moments. Chase took the match to the mat, slowly trying to choke Raaj out.

Raaj fought to a standing position before hitting a back-body-drop. Raaj connected with significant strikes before an awkward dodge (at least I think it was a dodge) allowed Chase to steal control back rather quickly. Chase then hoisted Raaj up and dropped him with a stalling brainbuster for the win.

2021 NXT Breakout Tournament qualifier: Joe Gacy defeated Desmond Troy

If either of these men are within a stone of 205 pounds, I’d be shocked; these are some big men. Weight aside, these two put on a fantastic match filled with high-quality ring work. Troy’s amateur background shined throughout tonight’s outing, and Gacy offered a perfect contrast.

This match opened with Troy quickly dropping Gacy with a suplex, triggering a quick exchange on the mat. Troy shot with a blisteringly quick double-leg takedown as soon as Gacy was back on his feet.

Gacy was able to interrupt a shoulder tackle, opening Troy up for offence for the first time. A variety of power moves and two big suplexes yielded a Gacy near fall. Troy collapsed after being slammed repeatedly into the turnbuckles, causing Gacy to crash into them in a very cool moment. Troy managed to make it to his feet first, leaving him with proper match control. The offence that followed was filled with beautiful suplexes.

After receiving a gut-wrench suplex trifecta, Gacy fought free from Troy’s control, connecting with a short strike, uranage, and suplex to close the contest.

First two participants set for NXT Breakout Tournament

The 2021 NXT Breakout Tournament has its first two participants.

Andre Chase (Harlem Bravado) and Joe Gacy are set for the Breakout Tournament after winning qualifying matches on tonight’s episode of 205 Live. Chase and Gacy were both making their WWE debuts on tonight’s show.

Chase defeated Guru Raaj in his qualifying match, while Gacy defeated Desmond Troy.

Chase and Gacy both formerly wrestled for EVOLVE. Chase was part of the group of signees that joined the WWE Performance Center this February. Gacy was announced as signing with WWE last October.

Breakout Tournament qualifying matches will continue on next week’s 205 Live. The tournament will feature eight wrestlers, with the winner getting a shot at the NXT title of their choosing. The tournament will begin on the Tuesday, July 13 episode of NXT.

This is the second-ever NXT Breakout Tournament. The inaugural tournament took place in 2019 and was won by Jordan Myles (ACH). It also featured Cameron Grimes, Bronson Reed, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Dexter Lumis, Joaquin Wilde, Angel Garza, and Boa.

Two Breakout Tournament qualifiers set for WWE 205 Live

A pair of matches with NXT Breakout Tournament implications will take place on this week’s episode of 205 Live.

WWE has announced that two Breakout Tournament qualifying matches will air on 205 Live this Friday night. The qualifying matches are: Guru Raaj vs. Andre Chase (Harlem Bravado) and Desmond Troy vs. Joe Gacy.

“Just as it did during the Men’s and Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classics, 205 Live will make an exception to its typical 205-pound weight limit, and the prestigious NXT Breakout Tournament will instead take center stage,” WWE wrote.

Raaj wrestled at WWE Superstar Spectacle earlier this year and lost to Finn Balor. The event featured wrestlers from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT and spotlighted WWE’s Indian talent.

Chase and Gacy both formerly wrestled for EVOLVE and are making their WWE debuts in their qualifying matches. Troy (Denzel Dejournette) joined the WWE Performance Center in 2018 after having been an All-American amateur wrestler at Appalachian State University. Last year, he made appearances where he lost matches on NXT, Raw, SmackDown, and Main Event.

It was announced on this Tuesday’s NXT that the Breakout Tournament would be making its return. It will feature eight participants, with the winner getting a shot at the NXT title of their choosing. The tournament will begin on the Tuesday, July 13 episode of NXT.

The inaugural NXT Breakout Tournament took place in 2019 and was won by Jordan Myles (ACH). Cameron Grimes, Bronson Reed, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Dexter Lumis, Joaquin Wilde, Angel Garza, and Boa also took part in the tournament.
