AEW’s Rey Fenix hopeful for mid-February return

Rey Fenix is hoping to return to in-ring action in mid-February, according to Dave Meltzer on last night’s Wrestling Observer Radio.

One half of the former AEW Tag Team Champions has been on the shelf with a badly dislocated arm suffered during a table spot in the Lucha Brothers’ January 5th Tag Team title loss to Jurassic Express.

After the spot, Fenix immediately pointed to his arm as it visibly turned in the other direction. He never got back into the match in which his team lost the titles. The finish still went as planned despite the injury as Jurassic Express was tabbed to win the belts.

It was feared Fenix broke his arm on the spot, but that was not the case. He was set to have an additional MRI to check for additional ligament damage, but no news has come of that.

Fenix missed several months in the late-spring of 2021 due to a groin injury.

FTR win AAA Tag Team titles on AEW Dynamite

FTR are the new AAA World Tag Team Champions.

They won the titles tonight on Dynamite. FTR at first appeared as masked friends of Andrade El Idolo. During the early part of the match, Rey Fenix and Penta El 0 M unmasked the mystery tag team, revealing themselves as FTR. Towards the end of the match, Tully Blanchard came out to distract the referee. This allowed Dax Harwood to strike Fenix with one of the title belts, then covered him to win the titles for his team.

After the match, a backstage segment made clear that Andrade had paid MJF in order for Andrade to use FTR, who are part of the Pinnacle stable.

FTR ended the Lucha Brothers title reign after 853 days. They won the titles back at Verano de Escandalo on June 16, 2019, defeating the Young Bucks. Fenix and Pentagon most recently defended the AAA Tag Team titles when they defeated El Hijo Del Vikingo and Laredo Kid at AAA’s Heroes Inmortales event on October 9.

Danielson vs. Fish, AAA tag title match added to AEW Dynamite

Three new matches have been added to next week’s AEW Dynamite.

Bryan Danielson will face Bobby Fish in a singles match. Fish made his AEW debut on this week’s show, losing to Sammy Guevara in a match that was for the TNT Championship. AEW confirmed his signing after the show.

The AAA Tag Team titles will also be on the line. Pentagon and Rey Fenix, who also hold the AEW World Tag Team titles, will defend the AAA titles against a mystery masked team who are Andrade el Idolo’s close friends. In a backstage promo that aired last week on Dynamite, Idolo issued the challenge, saying he was going to bring in two men to challenge the Lucha Bros..

The match between Dante Martin and Malakai Black has also been made official. On this week’s Dynamite, Martin had asked for competition, with Black appearing and taking Martin out, saying he accepted his challenge.

AEW will also reveal the brackets for their upcoming World Title Eliminator tournament, with the winner getting an AEW World Championship match. The finals will take place at Full Gear.

Dynamite will not air this Wednesday due to NHL coverage. Instead, it will air live on Saturday, October 16 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida.

AEW Tag Team title match announced for Rampage

Four matches have been announced for this Friday’s Rampage.

CM Punk will face Daniel Garcia in a singles match. This followed a promo that took place on Dynamite tonight where Punk challenged Garcia. The two have had altercations in the past, specifically prior to All Out.

Ricky Starks will meet Brian Cage in a Philadelphia street fight for the FTW title. Starks also did an in-ring promo saying that Cage wasn’t there, and that he was going to challenge Cage to the match. This brought out Cage, who laid out the person who beat him for the title.

The Lucha Brothers will defend the AEW World Tag Team titles against The Acclaimed, who appeared on tonight’s show. Max Caster cut a rap on the Lucha Bros. saying they’ll be the next champions.

Jade Cargill will face Skye Blue in a singles match. Both appeared in promos earlier in the show talking about the upcoming TBS title tournament. The title, which will be contested in the AEW’s women’s division, was introduced on tonight’s show.

Three matches announced for next week’s AEW Dynamite

Three matches have been set for next week’s edition of Dynamite in Hunstville, Alabama.

Jon Moxley will take on Ortiz in a singles match. Moxley had laid out Ortiz with the paradigm shift DDT to open tonight’s show, which ended in a brawl between Moxley and members of the Inner Circle.

An eight man tag match has also been signed. The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Hangman Page will team to face The Butcher, The Blade and The Lucha Bros. The Bucks defeated Butcher and Blade on tonight’s show, but Butcher and Blade attacked them after the match. Page and Omega came out for the save.

Britt Baker will also be in action, facing Yuka Sakazaki, who is making her Dynamite debut. Sakazaki previously participated in a six woman tag team match at Double or Nothing and faced Riho and Nyla Rose in a triple threat match at Fyter Fest last year.

Cody will also receive his ten lashes at the hands of MJF. He had agreed to the stipulation several weeks ago in order to get a match against MJF at Revolution.

Triple threat AEW Tag Team title match set for Full Gear

A triple threat tag team match for the AEW World Tag Team titles is set for Full Gear.

New champions SCU (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) will face the Lucha Bros. and Private Party in a triple threat match. This was announced during tonight’s AEW Dynamite.

A bronze medal match was announced at the start of the show where Private Party would face The Dark Order, with the winners being added to the title match at Full Gear. Private Party won the match following the Gin ‘n’ Juice, where Isiah Kassidy gave Stu Grayson a hurricanrana off the top rope, with Marq Quen hitting a cutter and scoring the pinfall for his team.

SCU won the World Tag Team titles last week, defeating the Lucha Bros. in the finals of the tournament to crown the first champions.

Full Gear takes place this Saturday, November 9, at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.

First AEW Tag Team Champions crowned on Dynamite

The SCU duo of Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky are the first AEW Tag Team champions.

The new champions were crowned tonight in the main event of Dynamite, defeating the Lucha Bros.. Pentagon Jr. had Sky in the package piledriver position as Fenix went to the top for a double foot stomp, but Kazarian managed to shove Fenix to the floor. Sky responded by countering Pentagon with a small package, picking up the win and the titles.

The title win caps off a tournament that started on the second week of AEW television. The Lucha Bros. defeated Jurassic Express and Private Party to reach the finals, while SCU defeated Best Friends and The Dark Order.

Christopher Daniels was originally set to team with Kazarian for the tournament. However, he was jumped by the Lucha Bros. prior to their match against Best Friends back on October 16. On commentary the following week, announcers said he would be out 6-8 weeks.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express were originally set to present the winners with the titles. They were jumped by Santana and Ortiz, however, with Ricky Morton taking a powerbomb through a platform on the stage.

AEW Tag Team title tournament finals set for next week

The finals of the AEW Tag Team title tournament are now set for next week, with the final two teams advancing.

SoCal Uncensored (Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian) will face the Lucha Bros. (Pentagon Jr. and Fenix) next week for the AEW Tag Team titles. Both teams advanced tonight on Dynamite, beating The Dark Order and Private Party respectively.

This plays into an angle that took place last week on Dynamite. Originally, Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian were to be the team representing SCU in the tournament. However the Lucha Bros. jumped them as they were making their way to the ring, with Pentagon Jr. giving Daniels a package piledriver on the rampway.

Scorpio Sky came out in street clothes and joined Kazarian instead, defeating Best Friends. Commentary tonight gave an update on Daniels, saying that he was resting at home.

Dynamite will take place week in Charleston, West Virginia at the Charleston Coliseum.

AEW Tag Team title tournament semifinals set for next week

Both AEW Tag Team title tournament semifinals are set for next week.

Private Party vs. The Lucha Bros and SoCal Uncensored vs. The Dark Order are now confirmed for next Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite. Both SoCal Uncensored and Lucha Bros won their matches tonight to advance to the semifinals.

The winning teams will advance to the finals of the tournament. The finals are being held on the October 30 episode of Dynamite in Charleston, West Virginia.

Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian opened the show by defeating Best Friends Chuck Taylor & Trent. The SCU team was originally supposed to be Frankie Kazarian & Christopher Daniels, but the Lucha Bros jumped them as they were coming to the ring, with Pentagon Jr. drilling Daniels with a package piledriver on the entryway.

Scorpio Sky came to the ring in street clothes and took Daniels’ place in the match, with his team winning after they hit a powerbomb/dropkick combination on Trent.

Lucha Bros later in the show defeated the team of Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt, who replaced Luchasaurus in the match. It was reported this afternoon that he would be out of the match due to a hamstring injury. Pentagon picked up the win for his team after he and Fenix drilled Stunt with a dropkick/package piledriver for the win.

Next week’s Dynamite will take place at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Lucha Bros challenge Young Bucks to ladder match at All Out

The feud between The Young Bucks and the Lucha Brothers is not over.

After defeating SCU (Frankie Kazairan and Scorpio Sky) at Fight for the Fallen tonight, Fenix and Pentagon Jr. took out a ladder and scaled it. They then cut a promo challenging the Young Bucks to a ladder match at All Out on August 31. The announcers pointed out the AAA World Tag Team titles would be on the line which are currently held by the Lucha Bros.

This would be the third match between the two teams. The first was back at AAA Rey de Reyes in March, when the Bucks defeated the Lucha Bros. in an impromptu match. The second was at Verano de Escandalo in June, where the Lucha Bros. regained the titles.

The Lucha Bros. will team with Laredo Kid to take on the team of the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega at TripleMania next month.

Lucha Bros win AAA tag team titles from The Young Bucks

The Lucha Bros are once again AAA World tag team champions.

They regained the titles this evening from The Young Bucks in the main event of AAA’s Verando de Escandalo event in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. The Bucks had El Hijo Del Tirantes, the company’s heel referee, in their corner but during a moonsault Nick took out both his opponent and Tirantes. A new referee came out to officiate the rest of the match. The Lucha Bros then regained the titles, with Pentagon Jr. pinning Matt after hitting a package piledriver/foot stomp combination.

The Young Bucks defeated the Lucha Bros in an impromptu bout at AAA’s Rey de Reyes event back on March 16 to win the titles for the first time. They successfully retained the titles in a rematch at AEW’s Double or Nothing event on May 25th. The Bucks ended up holding the championships for 93 days.

It was at Rey de Reyes that AAA and AEW announced their new working relationship, with both the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes making appearances.

Young Bucks win AAA Tag Team titles at Rey de Reyes

The Young Bucks are the new AAA Tag Team champions following tonight’s AAA Rey de Reyes event.

After the Lucha Bros. defeated Rey Escorpion and El Texano Jr. to win the titles in the main event, Konnan came out and confronted the new champions. At that moment, the lights went out. When they came back on, The Young Bucks were in the ring and an impromptu match for the tag team titles started.

It was a short bout, with the Bucks winning the titles after hitting the Meltzer Driver on Pentagon Jr., while previously laying out Fenix on the floor with an indytaker. The two then exited the ring and celebrated with Konnan as the show ended.

Cody also appeared earlier in the show, mentioning to Hugo Savinovich that he would like to bring in names to AAA such as Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho. Konnan, Taurus, Rey Escorpion and El Texano Jr. came out to confront him and it ended up turning into a brawl with several other wrestlers coming out for the save.
