Kris Statlander comments on ‘very surreal’ AEW Women’s World title win

New AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander doesn’t have the words to describe her title win on Saturday.

Statlander pinned Toni Storm in a fatal four-way at AEW All Out to win the title. At the post-event media scrum, she was asked what the win means to her considering she is a homegrown AEW talent.

Statlander responded:

It’s very surreal because like you said, I’m homegrown, I’ve been here since 2019. I’ve lost opportunities at this title a good amount of times that I was like, okay, maybe I slow my roll a little bit. And now five or six years later to be finally sitting here with this (title) is like one of the most insane things ever and I don’t really have a lot of words to describe it.

Statlander debuted for AEW in late 2019 and started getting wins on episodes of Dynamite shortly after against wrestlers such as Hikaru Shida and Britt Baker. She had her first shot at the AEW Women’s World title in January 2020 against Riho. However, she tore her left ACL in June 2020 and was out of action for 10 months. She later tore her right ACL in August 2022 and was out for a year.

Statlander was asked about being the first wrestler to have won both the TBS and AEW Women’s World titles and reflected on how injuries prevented her from doing it sooner.

“It’s been sort of a very up and down journey for me and I feel like there are so many opportunities that maybe I could have had the chance to be the first early on, but I was derailed by my knee injury.”

“So I kept (being) like maybe I’ll come back and maybe I’ll be the first person to do this. And then I get injured and then time passes by and other people step up and take that position for you.”

“It’s very much so been a little bit not hurtful, but disheartening having to be like something that was out of my control stopped me from having that historic moment. And now to finally have something to my name to be like I’m the first ever to do this, it just makes all those injuries, all the hard times, all the ups and downs so worth it. Because I worked so unbelievably hard to be in this position that I’m at today and to finally just have that title means more than I could ever imagine. Wrestling is insane.”

Statlander used a seatbelt pin to get the three-count on Storm on Saturday, a move often performed by Wheeler Yuta, who has seemingly been recruiting Statlander for the Death Riders in recent weeks. Tony Khan mentioned this to Statlander at the presser and she responded:

“Well, Tony, he’s not the only one that’s ever used the seatbelt pin. There have been some greats before him like Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor that have also maybe used that as a more signature thing.”

“Maybe it’s not exactly Yuta that I’m emulating,” she added.

Responding to a question from WON’s Marq Quill at the presser, Statlander said she wants to defend her title against the former champion Toni Storm first.

“Honestly, gotta give it up to the former champ, Toni Storm. She and I have still never had a singles match, and now I have two pins over her.”

Statlander’s appearance at the AEW All Out post-event presser comes in around the 9-minute mark of the video below:

New Women’s World Champion crowned at AEW All Out

In a bit of a surprise, Kris Statlander is the new AEW Women’s World Champion following the events of All Out.

Statlander got a flash pin on champion Toni Storm in a match that also included Thekla and former champion Jamie Hayter. Storm was shocked afterward, remaining on the ramp as Statlander celebrated and slowly walking to the back as it continued.

It’s Statlander’s first run with the title and comes nearly two years after she held her only AEW title: the TBS Championship she held for 174 days from May through November 2023.

The 30-year-old has been in AEW since November 2019. She was 0-3 in challenges for the AEW Women’s World title going into Saturday.

The loss ends Storm’s fourth reign that began at February’s Grand Slam Australia with a win over Mariah May. She had six successful title challenges with her last coming at August’s Forbidden Door over ROH Women’s World Champion Athena.

To this point, it’s been the only title change on the show.

Kris Statlander: ‘People are more invested in the women’s division’ than ever

Kris Statlander says fans have never been more invested in AEW’s women’s division.

Statlander will challenge for the AEW Women’s World Championship later this month at All Out in a four-way match against Thekla, Willow Nightingale, and champion Toni Storm. During a recent interview with SI.com, she discussed where she wants to see the division go.

“I want to see more things that people get so invested in that they want to see us at the top of the card every single night. And that’s not necessarily just a ‘Put us in the main event’ type thing. I think people need to draw passion from themselves into their performances, and I think we are getting to that point where people are caring so much about what they’re putting out there that things are getting more heated. Things are getting more exciting.”

She continued:

“People are more invested in the women’s division than they ever have been before. And [I want] more big blow-off matches and more street fights. Why not? The girls love to go nuts. The girls love going crazy. More street fights, tag titles, blood and guts, maybe mixed tag stuff more often, stuff like that. I agree with all of those things.”

Statlander also reflected on her experience wrestling in England for Pro Wrestling EVE. The 30-year-old debuted for the promotion on July 4, defeating Anita Vaughan to win the women’s title. She returned on September 5 and successfully defended the belt against Nina Samuels before flying to Philadelphia to wrestle on Collision the following day.

“I went into it [Pro Wrestling EVE] with the idea of getting to do the international travels that I never got the chance to do before I got signed. Because very fortunately, I got signed about three years into my wrestling career. I never really had the time or the chance to get any of those international U.K. tours or a tour in Japan or anything like that. Not that there weren’t potential opportunities there. It just never panned out.”

She also spoke about her upcoming title match at AEW All Out, her last shot at the championship in 2021, and more during the interview. It is available here.

Two matches official, challenges made for AEW All Out

One match is official for All Out, while challenges have been made for three more.

On this week’s Collision, Jon Moxley defeated Daniel Garcia in a closely-fought contest after getting the win with a roll-up. Later, in a backstage promo, Moxley said he wanted nothing more than to have Darby Allin by his side but since he keeps coming back to fight him, he will take Allin out and make room for someone who wants to be a master of the craft. He said he would put Allin in the ground at All Out.

Three challenges were also made for September 20 in Toronto. After Kris Statlander, Harley Cameron, Mina Shirakawa, and Toni Storm defeated The Triangle of Madness and Megan Bayne, the heels immediately went back in for the attack before Jamie Hayter came out for the save. Hayter tried to help Storm back to her feet, but Storm rejected the offer and instead challenged her, Statlander, and Thekla to a four-way match for the AEW Women’s title at All Out.

The Women’s title match was later made official following Collision.

Another challenge took place when TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher came to the ring with Don Callis and Josh Alexander and called out AEW World Champion Hangman Page, who he took out at the end of Wednesday’s Dynamite. He said it would not take him six years to be the top guy in AEW and if Hangman Page didn’t accept his challenge, he’d have no problem putting Page out of action and taking the title away from him.

The end of Collision saw MJF make an appearance just one day after his wedding, shoving Mark Briscoe off the top rope and allowing Konosuke Takeshita to pick up the victory. After a confrontation with Takeshita, MJF and Briscoe got into a brawl and had to be separated by security. MJF dared Briscoe to name the time, place, and stipulation of their match. Briscoe told MJF that he had a lot of ideas and wouldn’t reveal the stipulation yet, but called the match for All Out.

Updated AEW All Out card | Toronto, Canada | Saturday, September 20

  • AEW World Championship: Hangman Page defends against Kyle Fletcher (challenge issued)
  • Adam Copeland & Christian Cage vs. FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler)
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Riho

  • Coffin match: Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin
  • Four-way for AEW Women’s title: Toni Storm defends against Thekla, Jamie Hayter, Kris Statlander
  • MJF vs. Mark Briscoe, stipulation to be determined (challenge issued)

Two new matches signed for AEW Collision

Saturday’s AEW Collision saw two new matches added during Wednesday’s Dynamite.

After the events of Wednesday when Jon Moxley defeated Kevin Knight, Knight and “Speedball” Mike Bailey will reform JetSpeed to take on Moxley’s Death Riders team of Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.

In another, it will be a four-way fight for $100,000 between Anna Jay, Penelope Ford and former TBS Champions Kris Statlander and Julia Hart.

The new additions join the previously announced four-way between Nigel McGuinness, Lee Moriarty, Hechicero and Daniel Garcia for a shot at IWGP World Champion Zack Sabre Jr. at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

Saturday’s show will be taped Thursday in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Current AEW Collision lineup | Saturday, August 16 (taped Thursday) | Cincinnati, Ohio

  • JetSpeed (Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight) vs. Death Riders (Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli)

Pro Wrestling EVE notes: Kris Statlander wins title, Skye Blue & Julia Hart appearance set

Image: Pro Wrestling EVE/Will Ospreay

Notes coming from today’s Pro Wrestling Eve event.

Kris Statlander won the Pro Wrestling EVE International title in the main event of Friday’s Mean Grrrls event in London, defeating Anita Vaughan to win the title for the first time. Vaughan’s reign ended after 92 days.

Statlander is signed to AEW, where she has been featured in recent weeks still conflicted about her relationship with Willow Nightingale. Despite turning against her last year, Statlander seems torn on whether to repair their relationship. She most recently competed on the June 25 edition of AEW Dynamite, winning a four-way between Athena, Thunder Rosa, and Nightingale to earn the number one spot in the upcoming Women’s Casino Gauntlet match at All In.

Pro Wrestling Eve also announced that Julia Hart and Skye Blue would be appearing at an upcoming show on August 23, the same weekend as AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. A video aired during the show making the announcement.

Skye Blue made her return from injury in March, quickly reassociating herself with Hart.

First entrants for men’s & women’s Casino Gauntlet matches locked for AEW All In

Image: AEW

The first entrants for both the men’s and women’s Casino Gauntlet matches at next month’s AEW All In Texas are now confirmed following Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.

In a four-way, Mark Briscoe earned the right to enter the men’s gauntlet first, outlasting Konosuke Takeshita, Roderick Strong and ROH World Champion Bandido. The end came when Briscoe pinned Strong with the Froggy Bow elbow after Strong had just hit Bandido with the End of Heartache and was vulnerable.

Earlier in the night, MJF revealed that he will be in a Casino Gauntlet qualifier on next week’s Dynamite and then was confronted by Briscoe because he was taking up so much time. MJF then ran him down verbally before Briscoe said he had empathy for him based on his past, leading him to make a penis/”kosher pickle” joke.

On the women’s side, Kris Statlander nabbed the first spot in the women’s gauntlet by pinning friend/foe Willow Nightingale in a bout that also included Thunder Rosa and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena.

Nightingale looked to have the match won when Marina Shafir of the Death Riders came out to distract her. Wheeler Yuta then appeared behind her but got pounced for his trouble. Statlander then took advantage, hitting Nightingale with Staturday Night Fever for the pin and win. Statlander has been recently courted by the Death Riders, but she has yet to accept.

The winners of each match earn future World title matches in their respective divisions. The advantage of having an early spot is that the match can end at any time.

Current AEW All In card | Saturday, July 12 | Arlington, Texas

  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Hangman Page
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Mercedes Mone
  • Winner-take-all match for AEW Unified Championship: Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada vs. International Champion Kenny Omega
  • AEW Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) defend against JetSpeed (Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight)
  • Men’s Casino Gauntlet match
  • Women’s Casino Gauntlet match

AEW Collision live results: Kris Statlander vs. Willow Nightingale

Old rivalries will be renewed on tonight’s special live edition of AEW Collision on TBS and Max.

Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander will go one-on-one for the first time since last September’s All Out pay-per-view on tonight’s show. Their street fight last September earned critical acclaim.

In a rematch from the April 5 Collision, “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Dralistico will meet again on tonight’s show.

Tensions between Daniel Garcia and FTR will continue to rise on tonight’s show, with Garcia facing either Dax Harwood or Cash Wheeler in a one-on-one match.

AEW’s “Five-tool Player” Anthony Bowens will look to continue his AEW winning streak on tonight’s show as he faces Lee Johnson. Bowens is 2-0 since returning to AEW at Dynasty’s Zero Hour pre-show in April with his new persona.

Tonight’s show again takes place at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit, the site of last night’s AEW Dynamite episode.

**********

AEW Collision opened with Toni Storm making her entrance, rising up from within one of the box seats dressed in old-timey dress. Storm’s promo was filled double entendres, but she was talking about wrestling, and how she wanted to face a new set of challengers before Hayter or Mercedes Moné.

–The Paragon were backstage, and O’Reilly and Strong were talking about the disappointment they had in losing to FTR, but Adam Cole assured them that it wouldn’t be long before they were back at the top. The Grizzled Young Veterans showed up to challenge them, saying they forgot what it was like to fight for their spot, and they would provide a fight to remind them.

Ricochet defeated Angelico

Zach Gowen was in the audience, booing Ricochet as he made his entrance. The fans chanted “He has hair!” in favour of Angelico, who happened to take the first minute or so of the match, but Ricochet hit a dive and chased after Serpentico on the floor. Ricochet got hit a stun gun in the ropes and a clothesline for a two count, which he disputed with the referee. Richochet missed a 450 splash, but hit a sole butt. Angelico responded with a flying knee and then a lifting flatliner for a 2-count.

Angelico hit a series of lariats off the ropes before locking in an abdominal stretch before slapping Ricochet on the top of his head multiple times. Angelico locked on a half crab, but Ricochet made the ropes. Ricochet hit a standing shooting star press for a 2-count, but an inverted suplex, and hit the spirit gun for the win. This was a good match, but it definitely shouldn’t have been as 50/50 as it was as I cannot tell you the last time I’ve seen Angelico on AEW TV outside of ROH.

–Ricochet invited the crowd to boo him, saying that they were stupid for booing him because if they were smart, they would cheer for him. He listed the people he had beaten, and as he was talking, he paused and pointed out Zach Gowen. He talked about Gowen was retired now, and that he didn’t have a leg in the fight. He shoved Gowen, and security ran over to break it up, but Ricochet hit the security with his mic and threw one of the them into the ring.

Ricochet pulled out a pair of scissors and started cutting the hair of the security officer, but Gowen ran in and took the scissors out of Ricochet’s hands. Ricochet kicked Gowen in the leg and hit the spirit gun on Gowen. Ricochet took Gowen’s prosthetic leg and left the ring with it. Ricochet posed with the leg, and the crowd gave tons of heat to Ricochet for this angle. I suspect we’ll get a match between these two, maybe at Double or Nothing.

The Don Callis Family (Kyle Fletcher, Lance Archer, Rocky Romero, & Trent Berreta) (w/ Don Callis) defeated The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd & Truth Magnum), AR Fox, & Bandido

Nigel McGuinness said that the The Outrunners were two men sharing one brain, and I laughed hard enough that I had to note it here. Fletcher and Bandido started the match, and that is a match I’d love to see. Berretta tagged in and took out Bandido.

The Outrunners came in and double teamed RPG Vice, hitting a clothesline and bulldog combo on both men. Lance Archer came in and chokeslammed both men, and started working over Magnum. Callis and McGuinness had so many quips about the Outrunners I would have had the same amount of trouble keeping track of them as I do keeping track of moves in a Young Bucks match.

Magnum managed to roll into a tag against Bandido who hit an incredible torneo off the turnbuckle on Fletcher. Roponggi Vice tried to tag out Bandido, but he low bridged them. Bandido tried to do the same with Archer, who just stopped and stomped him, but was tossed over the ropes by the Outrunners. AR Fox launched himself over the top rope on the shoulders of Bandido, and then Bandido launched over the ropes onto everyone, as the PWG party match of the show brought the crowd to their feet.

Bandido went for the 21-plex on Fletcher, but Fletcher countered into a dragon suplex, which Bandido countered by landing on his feet and going for a suplex. Fletcher responded with his own and Bandido tagged out to Fox, who hit a cannonball on Fletcher and a DDT on Archer. Fox hit a triangle dropkick on Romero, rolled backwards into a cutter on Fletcher, ducked a PK from Romero, then hit a cutter on Romero. Fox then hit a cutter on Romero and Berretta, but was cut off by Archer, who chokeslammed him off the top rope and RPG Vice hit the Jackal Driver for the win. This was a great match.

–They recapped Ricochet laying out Zach Gowen and taking his prosthetic leg. They then announced Ricochet vs. Zach Gowen for Dynamite the next week, along with highlighting Jon Moxley vs. Samoa Joe.

–A promo video aired about Moxley and Samoa Joe. This was awesome.

–Jon Moxley was backstage cutting a promo about the cage match with Samoa Joe. Moxley said he knew he was going to get beat up, but could Joe really keep going long enough to beat Moxley? Moxley promised that no matter what Joe did, he had been through worse, and that he faced demons that keep people up at night, and he was going to take the fight to Joe, and that he would be the last man standing against Joe and that there was no place he would rather be. This was a tremendous promo.

Anthony Bowens (w/ Billy Gunn) defeated Lee Johnson (w/ Blake Christian)

Bowens and Johnson exchanged some holds until Bowens started to unleash with a series of chops and stomps in the corner. Johnson comically tried to make an alliance with Billy Gunn, which did not go well for him. Christian managed to distract Bowens, allowing Johnson to send Bowens to the floor. Bowens hit a big superkick back in the ring that dropped Johnson, and Bowens hit the Mollywhop for the win.

–Bowens and Gunn did the scissoring pose for the crowd.

–The Gates of Agony came out, and Bishop Kaun grabbed a mic and said that Big Bill and Bryan Keith weren’t going to redeem themselves by beating them. Toa Liona said that he wanted to fight right now, and the Learning Tree came out and started brawling with The Gates of Agony. Liona charged so fast at Bill that he crashed into the barricade and fell into the front row. Kaun grabbed Keith and hit a Death Valley Driver off the stage through two tables on Keith. Liona then speared Bill off the other side of the stage through another set of tables.

–A recap video aired for Anna Jay and Megan Bayne.

–A recap video for Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander, showing their friendship, the turn of Statlander, and Nightingale challenging her to a match for tonight.

Kris Statlander defeated Willow Nightingale

Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness noted that it is hard to trust Statlander due to her former alliance with Stokley Hathaway, who both commentators dislike. Nightingale booped Statlander, playing off her former gimmick, and Statlander slapped her. Statlander mocked Nightingale with a smiley face, and Nightingale slapped her. They started to exchange hard strikes, and Nightingale hit a snapmare and a thrust kick.

Both women exchanged pinfall attempts until Statlander hit a springboard back elbow for a 2-count. As Statlander hit the ropes, Nightingale ran the opposite direction and hit a pounce that sent Statlander to the floor. Nightingale hit a flip off the apron on Statlander, and Statlander hit a suplex on the floor on Nightingale as they went to an ad break.

The show came back with a really cool camera transition from a hall at the back into the arena and around ringside as Nightingale and Statlander hit stereo clotheslines on each other. Statlander hit a running knee in the corner, and Willow cartwheeled out of the corner and hit a big boot and a spinebuster in a cool spot. Nightingale hit a series of clotheslines in the corner and went for a Death Valley Driver, but Statlander fought out.

Statlander hit an axe kick for a two count on Nightingale. Statlander went for a fisherman’s buster, but Nightingale fought out and hit a Death Valley Driver for a 2-count. Statlander cut Nightingale off on the ropes and hit a top rope superplex on Nightingale. Statlander went for a discus lariat, but Nightingale hit a lariat and then a gutwrench powerbomb.

Statlander rolled to the floor, and Wheeler Yuta made his way down to ringside. Marina Shafir ran in with a chain and choked Nightingale out behind the back of the referee. Statlander did not see this happen, but came in and hit Staturday Night Fever for the win.

— Skye Blue returns on Dynamite next week.

–A recap of Hangman Page and Will Ospreay’s opening segment from Dynamite last night, ending with confirmation that Hangman and Ospreay would be taking on Konosuke Takeshita and Josh Alexander on Dynamite.

The Don Callis Family (Josh Alexander & Konosuke Takeshita) (w/ Don Callis) defeated The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Alex Reynolds)

Alexander and Takeshita immediately attacked The Dark Order, laying out the two men. Reynolds managed to escape some of the attack, tagging out to Uno, but soon after Alexander and Takeshita hit an electric chair into a flying knee on Uno (who sold it like he died, which was great), and Alexander hit the C4 Spike on Reynolds for the win. A quick squash, as it should have been.

Mike Bailey defeated Dralistico

Bailey and Dralistico had several crazy spots to open the match dodging each other. Bailey hit a Asai Moonsault to the floor and chopped Dralistico several times. Dralistico raked the eyes and hit a hurricanrana on the floor that drove Bailey into the steps.

Dralistico slowed the match down, raking the eyes several times and choking Bailey on the ropes as they came back from the break. Bailey hit a few kicks, selling a checked kick, but hitting a chop, and both wrestlers exchanged hard chops, while Bailey hit hard kicks. The crowd went nuts as they exchanged kicks, ending with a thrust kick that dropped Dralistico. That was awesome.

Bailey hit a running shooting star press for a two count. Bailey went for a shooting star press off the top rope, but Dralistico countered into a cradle, and they broke into a pinfall attempts before Dralistico hit a crucifix driver, but Dralistico went for a splash, and Bailey caught him with his feet, popped up onto his shoulders, and hit a Canadian destroyer. Bailey hit a moonsault into double knees on the apron, and hit a spinning heel kick to KO Dralistico for the win. That was an awesome finishing sequence.

–Rush’s music hit and he came out to collect his brother and stare at Mike Bailey, so it seems we are going to be getting that match sooner than later, and it should be awesome.

–Tony Schiavone announced that next week’s AEW Collision will be done in honour of Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael in Chicago, with his friends and family, including Ric Flair, being in attendance. That is a very nice gesture, and I’m glad they are doing that.

Dax Harwood (w/ Cash Wheeler & Stokely Hathaway) defeated Daniel Garcia via DQ

The fans chanted “Bald!” at Dax Harwood, and Garcia patted the top of Harwood’s head to the delight of the fans and anger of Harwood. Harwood backed Garcia into the corner and refused the clean break, hitting a punch that dropped Garcia and drew boos from the crowd. A simple spot, but it worked. Harwood chopped Garcia hard several times, drawing gasps from the crowd.

Harwood hit a swinging neckbreaker on Garcia, sending him to the mat. Harwood hit several knee drops right in front of Wheeler and Hathaway, who taunted Garcia. Harwood went for a piledriver, but Garcia fought it off. Harwood dumped Garcia to the floor and argued with a fan, which allowed Garcia to block a piledriver on the floor and slingshot Harwood into the ring post.

Harwood came up bleeding, and Garcia suddenly had the match turned around in his favour, as he hit a running shotgun dropkick on the floor, followed by two more as Harwood was seated against the guardrail. As Garcia went for a fourth, Wheeler stopped him by getting in the way, letting Harwood hit a lariat on the floor.

Harwood grabbed the ring bell, but Bryce Remsburg managed to take it away. Hathaway got on the apron and distracted the referee, which allowed Cash Wheeler to hit a cutter on Garcia on the floor. Matt Menard ran down and started brawling with Cash Wheeler, sending him to the back, leaving Harwood with Hathaway at ringside.

Garcia managed to cradle Harwood for a two count. Harwood tied Garcia in the ropes and beat on him before hitting a Randy Orton style DDT from the middle ropes, but Garcia kicked out. The fans chanted a very vulgar set of words at Harwood, voicing their displeasure. Harwood slapped Garcia, but Garcia hit several overhead chops that left Harwood stunned. Garcia hit two hard lariats, but Harwood stayed standing. Harwood hit a hard forearm, but Garcia hit a lariat.

Harwood pulled off the turnbuckle pad trying to block Garcia from hitting a back suplex. Garcia went for the Dragon Tamer, but Harwood shoved Garcia off and he crashed face first into the exposed turnbuckle. Harwood hit a slingshot powerbomb for a 2-count. Harwood went to the top rope, but Garcia managed to cut him off and hit a top rope superplex before rolling into a standing position, placing Harwood back on the top rope, hitting a 2nd top rope superplex, and he did it one last time, hitting a third. That was awesome. Harwood kicked out at 2.

Garcia nailed Harwood with several forearms and dumped Harwood into the crowd. Garcia and Harwood brawled all around the audience, ending up behind the announcers, with Harwood slapping the headset of Nigel McGuinness. Harwood shoved McGuinness after McGuinness refused to fight with him, saying that he was retired. The crowd went nuts as McGuinness got into the ring and he and Garcia cleared the ring of Harwood and a returning Wheeler, with the match ending in a DQ, but the babyfaces getting the upper hand. This is one of the few times I don’t mind the DQ finish, as it made sense within the context of the story being told, and ended with the babyfaces laying out the heels. I think we’ll be seeing Nigel McGuinness opposite FTR at some point soon, probably teaming with Garcia, maybe at Double or Nothing. That will be a really fun match.

Final Thoughts

Good episode of Collision tonight, with lots of recap videos for the important storylines, and good build for the secondary stories in the promotion right now, ending with story advancement for Daniel Garcia vs. FTR.

Statlander now advances to face the winner of Billie Starkz vs. Jamie Hayter which takes place this Saturday on AEW Collision from Springfield, Massachussetts.

Strickland was unsuccessful in winning back the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley, who had help from not only the Death Riders, but the returning Young Bucks. PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta were successful in retaining the Trios titles against Rated FTR.

Yuta & Castagnoli will also be in action Wednesday, taking on Samoa Joe and Hook of The Ops. The former, along with Katsuyori Shibata, attempted to even the odds during the Strickland/Moxley match by brawling with the rest of the Death Riders to the back.

Here is the updated card for Dynamite:

  • Swerve Strickland vs. PAC
  • Owen Hart Foundation women’s tournament quarterfinal: Kris Statlander vs. Thunder Rosa (Toni Storm on commentary)
  • Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Samoa Joe & Hook

Mercedes Mone, Athena among five new names declaring for AEW’s Owen Hart Cup tournament

Five new names have been officially announced for the 2025 Owen Hart Cup Women’s tournament.

During the March 29 episode of AEW Collision in Milwaukee Athena, Mercedes Moné, Jamie Hayter, Kris Statlander and Thunder Rosa all officially announced their participation in this year’s tournament.

Moné declared after an intense in-ring interaction with Athena, which saw the ROH Women’s World Champion finally confront “The CEO” after weeks of insults about the person who taught Starkz, which is none other than “The Fallen Goddess.”

After things got physical between the two, Moné avoided an O-Face from Athena, instead striking Mone’s opponent Robyn Renegade. It was later announced during a backstage segment that Athena would be entering the tournament as well, looking to do the same thing Moné has been doing, which is collecting more gold to add to her collection.

As Rosa and Statlander declared during a Lexy Nair interview segment, Rosa vowed to do whatever it takes to win and hold the Owen Hart Cup over her head. Statlander told her that wouldn’t happen if they crossed paths along the way.

With five new names now in the mix, they join rising star and the first-ever ROH Women’s World Television Champion Billie Starkz as the officially confirmed competitors on the women’s side of the tournament.

AEW has also confirmed that the 2025 Owen Hart Cup Tournament brackets for the men and women will be unveiled during the April 2 episode of AEW Dynamite in Peoria, IL. The winner will earn an AEW Women’s World Championship match at AEW All In: Texas on July 12 in Arlington, TX.

On the men’s side, the tournament is already shaping up to be a highly competitive affair. Former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White, former AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page, and former AEW International Champion Will Ospreay have all thrown their names into the hat, setting the stage for an explosive showdown.

Tag team match announced for AEW Dynamite

A new match has been added to the lineup for Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.

Kris Statlander & Thunder Rosa vs. Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford is now scheduled for the show.

AEW announced the news on Sunday, writing, “Weeks of tension finally boil over in this huge Tag Team Match on Wednesday Night Dynamite at 8/7c on TBS + Max!”

Last week on AEW Dynamite, Bayne defeated Statlander with some assistance from Ford at ringside. After the match, Bayne and Ford continued their attack until Rosa ran out to make the save. The segment ended awkwardly, as Bayne and Ford didn’t back down from Rosa, forcing her to repeatedly feign swinging a chair until they eventually left. Our own Dave Meltzer called it “the weirdest segment of the week” in last week’s edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Wednesday’s show is scheduled for the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California.

AEW Dynamite lineup for Wednesday, March 5, 2025:

  • Cope vs. Wheeler Yuta
  • Swerve Strickland & Ricochet AEW Revolution contract signing
  • Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford vs. Kris Statlander & Thunder Rosa
