AEW Full Gear notes: Tailgate Brawl, Casino Gauntlet match

Some notes ahead of AEW Full Gear.

During Saturday’s Collision, JetSpeed were interviewed after interfering in FTR’s match, leading to a surprise win by the Bang Bang Gang. After saying they weren’t done with FTR, both men expressed interest in participating in the Casino Gauntlet match at Full Gear, which will take place on November 22 in Newark, New Jersey. The winner of the match will be crowned the first-ever AEW National Champion.

Also on Collision, Max Caster & Anthony Bowens were interviewed. Both made it clear that they no longer wanted to team with one another, saying The Acclaimed were done. Bowens announced that his first step forward will be at the Full Gear Tailgate Brawl in two weeks. However, Lexi Nair made note that Khan has seen that whenever the two are together, ratings and merchandise go up, so if they plan on being at the Tailgate Brawl, it would have to be together.

After hearing that news, Bowens said he wanted the match canceled, with Caster agreeing. It wasn’t clear what match the two would be taking part in.

First entrants for men’s & women’s Casino Gauntlet matches locked for AEW All In

Image: AEW

The first entrants for both the men’s and women’s Casino Gauntlet matches at next month’s AEW All In Texas are now confirmed following Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.

In a four-way, Mark Briscoe earned the right to enter the men’s gauntlet first, outlasting Konosuke Takeshita, Roderick Strong and ROH World Champion Bandido. The end came when Briscoe pinned Strong with the Froggy Bow elbow after Strong had just hit Bandido with the End of Heartache and was vulnerable.

Earlier in the night, MJF revealed that he will be in a Casino Gauntlet qualifier on next week’s Dynamite and then was confronted by Briscoe because he was taking up so much time. MJF then ran him down verbally before Briscoe said he had empathy for him based on his past, leading him to make a penis/”kosher pickle” joke.

On the women’s side, Kris Statlander nabbed the first spot in the women’s gauntlet by pinning friend/foe Willow Nightingale in a bout that also included Thunder Rosa and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena.

Nightingale looked to have the match won when Marina Shafir of the Death Riders came out to distract her. Wheeler Yuta then appeared behind her but got pounced for his trouble. Statlander then took advantage, hitting Nightingale with Staturday Night Fever for the pin and win. Statlander has been recently courted by the Death Riders, but she has yet to accept.

The winners of each match earn future World title matches in their respective divisions. The advantage of having an early spot is that the match can end at any time.

Two matches for number one spot in All In Casino Gauntlet set for AEW Dynamite

Two new matches have been announced for AEW Dynamite.

Tony Khan on Tuesday night announced that two four-way matches will determine the number one spot for the upcoming Casino Gauntlet matches at All In. For the men, Konosuke Takeshita will face Mark Briscoe, Roderick Strong, and ROH Champion Bandido. For the women, Willow Nightingale will face Athena, Thunder Rosa, and Kris Statlander.

Briscoe recently revealed on Collision the surprise return of Kota Ibushi, which left members of the Don Callis family stunned. Ibushi has already been announced for Dynamite, taking on Callis Family member Trent Beretta.

Thunder Rosa and Athena also have history, with Rosa recently picking up a victory over Athena in a tag team match. Nightingale and Statlander have a long history with one another, with Statlander frequently mentioning her former tag team partner and friend in promos.

AEW later announced The Hurt Syndicate would also be making an appearance.

  • Four-way for #1 spot in All In Casino Gauntlet: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mark Briscoe vs. Roderick Strong vs. Bandido

Two Casino Gauntlet matches to take place at AEW All In

There will be two separate Casino Gauntlet matches at AEW All In: Texas.

Over the weekend, AEW revealed that the Casino Gauntlet match would be returning on Saturday, July 12 at All In. It’s now been announced that there will be two Casino Gauntlet bouts at the pay-per-view — one featuring the men’s division and another featuring the women’s division. The winners earn future World Championship shots.

No participants have been announced yet.

The Casino Gauntlet has become one of AEW’s signature match types. Two competitors start off with new participants then being added at regular intervals. It ends when the first fall is scored, meaning that it’s better to enter early than late since some of the participants may not get a chance to enter before the match ends.

Will Ospreay, Christian Cage, Ospreay & Kyle Fletcher (as a tag team), Powerhouse Hobbs, and Toni Storm are past Casino Gauntlet winners. There has only been one women’s Casino Gauntlet match until now.

Going into All In, Jon Moxley is the AEW World Champion and Storm holds the AEW Women’s World Championship. They have title defenses against Hangman Page and Mercedes Mone at the PPV.

AEW All In 2025 (Saturday, July 12 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas) —

  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Hangman Page
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Mercedes Mone
  • Winner-take-all match for AEW Unified Championship: Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada vs. International Champion Kenny Omega
  • Men’s Casino Gauntlet match
  • Women’s Casino Gauntlet match

Casino Gauntlet match announced for AEW All In

A battle royal has been added to AEW All In Teaxs.

Right as Saturday’s Dynamite went off the air, Tony Schiavone announced that a Casino Gauntlet match has been added to AEW’s biggest show of the year, which will take place on July 12 at Globe Life Field in Dallas, Texas.

The battle royal has been a staple for AEW and is the second to be held at All In. Last year’s match was a 12-person bout that was won by Christian Cage. As a result, he earned a future World Championship match. He eventually cashed in at AEW Revolution earlier this year, turning the singles match between Cope and Jon Moxley into a triple threat match. Mox submitted Cage to retain the title.

There were also a couple of surprises in last year’s match. Ricochet made his AEW debut as a participant, and Nigel McGuiness wrestled for the first time in 11 years.

AEW All In lineup for Saturday, July 12:

  • AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley defends against Hangman Page
  • AEW Women’s Championship: Toni Storm defends against Mercedes Mone
  • AEW Unified Championship: Kazuchika Okada (Continental Champion) vs. Kenny Omega (International Champion)
  • Casino Gauntlet battle royal

AEW announces first-ever women’s Casino Gauntlet Match

The AEW women’s division is set to compete in its first-ever Casino Gauntlet Match.

Tony Khan has confirmed that the first-ever women’s Casino Gauntlet Match will take place on Dynamite next week (Wednesday, January 15). The winner earns an AEW Women’s World Championship shot against Mariah May at Grand Slam Australia next month.

In the Casino Gauntlet Match, two competitors start and then new entrants are added at regular intervals. The match ends when the first fall is scored, so it is better to enter early than late. The later participants may never get a chance to enter the match.

Grand Slam Australia is being held in Brisbane on Saturday, February 15. We’ll see if this Casino Gauntlet sets up a rematch between Toni Storm and May for Storm’s homecoming. After dropping the AEW Women’s World Championship to May at All In last year, Storm went missing from AEW programming and then returned with an amnesia gimmick where she believes she’s a rookie.

The Casino Gauntlet stipulation has been utilized before for the men’s and tag team divisions. A men’s Casino Gauntlet Match is happening on Dynamite this week with the winner earning an AEW World Championship shot against Jon Moxley on the January 15 Dynamite.

Brady Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio is hosting the January 15 Dynamite episode, a special show named Maximum Carnage. Here is the updated lineup:

AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage (Wednesday, January 15) —

  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against men’s Casino Gauntlet Match winner
  • Hook vs. Christian Cage
  • Women’s Casino Gauntlet match for AEW Women’s World Championship shot at Grand Slam Australia

Casino Gauntlet match for AEW World title shot set for next week’s Dynamite

Tony Khan has announced a Casino Gauntlet match for the January 8, 2025, edition of AEW Dynamite.

The winner of the match will receive a shot at Jon Moxley’s AEW World Championship on the January 15, 2025, edition of the show, which is branded AEW Maximum Carnage.

Khan noted that next week’s match will be “the first simulcast Casino Gauntlet Match on MAX + TBS!”

The January 8 show takes place at the F&M Bank Arena in Clarksville, TN. As of Friday’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, 1,236 tickets have been distributed to the show. WrestleTix noted today that the number was up to 1,464.

AEW Maximum Carnage is scheduled for the Brady Music Center in Moxley’s hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. AEW will also tape an episode of Collision there the following night. Tickets for both shows did not go on sale until December 30. The January 16 Collision taping had initially been scheduled for Lousiville.

AEW All In notes: New Zero Hour match, Private Party, Casino gauntlet update

The Zero Hour pre-show for Sunday’s AEW All In had a new match added during Saturday’s AEW Collision in addition to some other developments for the pay-per-view from London’s Wembley Stadium.

In a ten-man tag match, Ring of Honor Tag Team and Six-Man Champion Dustin Rhodes will team with fellow champions Sammy Guevara & The Von Erichs in addition to Katsuyori Shibata against former ROH Six-Man Champions Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona and former ROH Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Kingdom’s Matt Taven & Mike Bennett.

The match was made Saturday when Rhodes and Guevara issued an open challenge for the event which was later answered.

In a backstage segment Saturday that led into the previous announcement, it was stated that Private Party will be the official MCs for the night.

During the broadcast, Tony Schiavone said that the winner of the Casino gauntlet match will be able to “cash in” on their earned AEW World title shot which is believed to mean at any time, any place.

That adds further intrigue as the World title will be defended on the pay-per-view between current champion Swerve Strickland and Bryan Danielson.

Here’s the current card for Wembley Stadium on Sunday:

Hangman Page, Mark Briscoe & Kyle O’Reilly entering Casino gauntlet match at AEW All In

Image: AEW

Former AEW World Champion Hangman Page will be entering the Casino gauntlet match at this Sunday’s All In.

Page announced his intentions during Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in a backstage interview with Renee Paquette. He happened to see former friend and Dark Order member Evil Uno and got him to reveal that he would be in the gauntlet as well. Page then hit Uno with a chair and attacked him in a fit of rage.

The inclusion comes as a bit of a surprise as it was assumed Page would face Jeff Jarrett in a singles match as had been building the past few weeks.

In an earlier segment, reigning Ring of Honor World Champion Mark Briscoe and Kyle O’Reilly were also added to the match, joining fellow Conglomeration teammate Orange Cassidy.

By virtue of his recent Dynamite win in a three-way, Cassidy will be the first entrant which is important as the bout ends with the first pinfall or submission. A max of 21 entrants can be in the match, hence the Casino name.

As of this writing, Cassidy, O’Reilly, Briscoe, Uno and Page are the only confirmed entrants.

The winner of the match will earn a future AEW World title shot.

The other new addition is a Trios title between The Patriarchy and either the Bang Bang Gang (The Gunns & Juice Robinson) or House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King & Buddy Matthews) following a title eliminator match to take place this Saturday on Collision. Current champion Christian Cage will be the special guest referee for the match as announced by Cage himself.
