The Lucha Bros and SoCal Uncensored will be facing off at AEW Fight for the Fallen this Saturday.
On this week’s Being the Elite, Pentagon Jr. & Fenix vs. Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian was announced for Fight for the Fallen. The show is being held at Daily’s Place Amphitheater in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday (July 13) and is benefiting Jacksonville’s Victim Assistance Advisory Council.
Christopher Daniels will be in Sky & Kazarian’s corner for the match.

Sky, Kazarian & Daniels defeated CIMA, T-Hawk & El Lindaman at Double or Nothing. Daniels lost a singles match against CIMA at Fyter Fest, and Trent Barreta & Chuck Taylor defeated Private Party and Sky & Kazarian in a triple threat match on the Fyter Fest pre-show. As a stipulation of winning that match, Barreta & Taylor will advance to All Out and get the chance to earn a first-round bye in AEW’s Tag Team title tournament.
Fight for the Fallen will air for free on B/R Live in the United States and Canada and will be available to purchase as an iPPV via Fite TV elsewhere. Here’s the updated card for the show:
The Young Bucks vs. Cody & Dustin Rhodes

Brandi Rhodes vs. Allie
Hangman Page vs. Kip Sabian
Jimmy Havoc, Darby Allin & Joey Janela vs. MJF, Sammy Guevara & Shawn Spears

The Lucha Bros are once again AAA World tag team champions.
They regained the titles this evening from The Young Bucks in the main event of AAA’s Verando de Escandalo event in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. The Bucks had El Hijo Del Tirantes, the company’s heel referee, in their corner but during a moonsault Nick took out both his opponent and Tirantes. A new referee came out to officiate the rest of the match. The Lucha Bros then regained the titles, with Pentagon Jr. pinning Matt after hitting a package piledriver/foot stomp combination.
The Young Bucks defeated the Lucha Bros in an impromptu bout at AAA’s Rey de Reyes event back on March 16 to win the titles for the first time. They successfully retained the titles in a rematch at AEW’s Double or Nothing event on May 25th. The Bucks ended up holding the championships for 93 days.
It was at Rey de Reyes that AAA and AEW announced their new working relationship, with both the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes making appearances.
Kenny Omega and PAC will be on opposite sides of a six-man tag match at All Elite Wrestling’s event with CEO Fighting Game Championships.
It was announced today that Omega & The Young Bucks will team against PAC & Pentagon Jr. & Fenix at AEW Fyter Fest. The show is taking place at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday, June 29.
The Young Bucks have been feuding with The Lucha Bros and will defend their AAA Tag Team titles against them at Double or Nothing in Las Vegas on May 25. Omega is facing Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing, while PAC is wrestling Hangman Page.
This is the second year in a row that Omega has been involved with a pro wrestling event that’s in partnership with CEO’s gaming convention. CEO x NJPW When Worlds Collide took place in Daytona Beach last June.
The Fyter Fest name was announced earlier this week and is a reference to the failed Fyre Fest music festival from 2017. CEO organizer Alex Jebailey vs. AEW’s Michael Nakazawa in a hardcore match is also set for Fyter Fest, with it being a rematch of their comedy match from the CEO x NJPW pre-show.
Tickets for Fyter Fest will go on sale in early May. AEW Fight for the Fallen is taking place in Jacksonville two weeks after Fyter Fest.
Thursday’s show came to us from the Rahway Recreation Center in Rahway, NJ, with Josh Mathews and Don Callis on commentary. The story for the event is wrestlers from Impact Wrestling, AAA, MLW, Lucha Underground, and WreslePro all in action.
The venue looked packed, and the ring they used looked really small, especially when the Ultimate X structure was installed.
The show opened with RVD arriving at the venue into the same intro video we have seen the last month with kids dressed as superheroes.
Johnny Impact defeated Jake Crist, Dante Fox, Pat Buck, and Ace Austin in an Ultimate X Match to win a future X-Division title shot
Kotto Brazil couldn’t make it to the show tonight. Jack Evans was also missing, but Ace Austin replaced him.
Most of the match consisted of one wrestler going for the X, being stopped by someone else, and so on. The highlights of the match were Crist hitting a superplex on Johnny, the Tower of Doom spot, followed by Johnny hitting a Swinging Razor’s Edge on Austin, and Fox taking out everyone with his Springboard Imploding 450 on the outside.
Austin then climbed all the way to the top of the pillars where the ropes were set and dove from the top on the rest of the men. Crist went for the X, but Buck hit a spear from the top rope to stop him. Johnny hit a Spanish Fly on the second rope on Fox. Ace went for the X, but Crist hit a cutter from the corner bringing Austin down. The finish saw Johnny climb the ropes to reach the X, bringing it down and earn an X-Division title shot.
The match was a lot of highspots. With two men missing, and Austin being a last minute replacement, parts of the match felt called on the spot.
– Backstage, Moose and Eddie Edwards met. Moose told Edwards that this is his team and to not get in his way. Brian Cage walked in and told them that they need to work together because they’re already outnumbered. Cage said he knows the Lucha Underground guys more than anyone. Edwards said that he’ll find a fourth partner.
We got a video package of last year’s Impact Wrestling vs. Lucha Underground show to build up tonight’s Impact vs LU match.
Team Lucha Underground (Drago, Aerostar, Marty “The Moth” Martinez, & Daga) defeated Team Impact (Brian Cage, Moose, Eddie Edwards, & Tommy Dreamer)
All the Lucha Underground guys came out together with Marty The Moth replacing the originally announced King Cuerno. Impact wrestlers came out individually, but commentary sold it as LU’s solidarity. Moose came out with a great Ric Flair robe. The fourth man ended up being Tommy Dreamer, who got a good reaction from the crowd.
Edwards and Aerostar started the match with a series of reversals and lucha armdrags. Marty and Dreamer went at it next with Dreamer hitting some jabs which made Marty tag out quickly. Drago hit some ranas before Cage and Daga made it in. They had a great quick exchange with fast paced action, ending with Cage getting the advantage with a backbreaker. Moose tagged himself in, but got taken out by Daga and the combined dropkicks of Aerostar and Drago. Daga took out Moose with a dive.
Inside the ring, Cage went against both Aerostar and Drago, who worked together to take out Cage. Aerostar hit a dive on everyone outside. Cage then suplexed Aerostar on top of everyone outside. Dreamer teased diving, but just walked down to floor and jabbed everyone. Dreamer and Edwards exchanged water mouth to mouth to the disgust of yours truly.
Back in the ring, Edwards was trapped as Team LU worked on him with quick tags and double team moves. As mentioned, the ring was really small, so some of the spots looked liked he could had just extended his hand and tagged out. Cage came in after the hot tag and went after Daga. At this point, the match broke down and all men got in the match except Moose. Everyone started exchanging finishers ending with Cage going for the Drill Claw on Daga, but Moose turned on him and hit a Spear.
Dreamer took out Moose with the kendo stick, followed by a dive from Edwards, leaving Dreamer open in the ring for “The Moth” to pick up the win on Dreamer following a butterfly DDT.
There were too many men in a small ring and for a short time for this to be any good. There were some good spots, but overall, it felt rushed.
– Taya Valkyrie cut a promo backstage talking trash on New Jersey and complain that she has to defend her title against three women tonight, but just like Johnny won tonight, she will beat the odds and walk out champion.
All challengers got in Taya’s face, but then they all attacked Rosemary. Taya, Grace, and Forbes went for a three-way test of strength, but they quickly changed that and went for quick roll-ups on each other. Forbes and Taya teamed up against Grace, taking her out, leaving Taya vs. Forbes in the ring.
Taya dominated Forbes with several strikes, a running hip attack, and the running knees, but when Taya went to play to the crowd, Rosemary came back into the mix. Rosemary tossed Taya around a bit until Taya found an opening to escape. Jordynne and Rosemary fought with the former hitting her running corner combo and the Vader Bomb for a two count. Jordynne hit an airplane spin, but she only did a few rotations before hitting a Samoan Drop. Forbes returned hitting a scissors kick and a punt kick on Grace for a pin attempt.
Taya returned, hitting a German on Forbes. Taya and Jordynne then took out Rosemary and Forbes before taking each other out with lariats. Rosemary locked in the Upside Down on Grace while Forbes started squatting with Taya on a fireman’s carry. She went to add Rosemary, but the weight was too much for her. All women started exchanging strikes in the middle of the ring, ending with Taya chasing Road to Valhalla on Rosemary, but Rosemary dodged and hit a spear on Taya.
Suddenly, Su Yung came out to the ramp. Rosemary abandoned the match and brawled with Yung into the back. Back in the ring, Grace took out Forbes with the Grace Driver, but Taya broke the pin up and stole it.
The match was decent, especially everything between Grace and Taya, but the finish feelt empty. Forbes got a good showing here.
– Tessa Blanchard cut a promo backstage saying that she’d be the one defending the title tonight if not for Gail Kim. She then cut a promo on Joey Ryan.
No Salina de la Renta with Promociones Dorado, unfortunately. There was a great reaction for LAX.
After a long time of Santana and Low Ki talking trash to each other, these two started the match. They went for a few strikes before locking up, exchanging control with Low Ki usually coming on top, at one point locking in a great looking armbar on the ropes. Santana and Low Ki got so heated that their respective partners just tagged themselves in. Ortiz and Martinez did a series of reversals and counters with fast paced action.
Ortiz got a two count with something that looked like a Tiger Northern Lights Suplex. Santana tagged in as they kept working over Martinez, but Low Ki did a blind tag that allowed him to sneak up on Santana and successfully cut him off from his corner.
Promociones Dorado worked over Santana for a while with quick tags, strikes, and a few submission attempts. Santana tagged out at the first opening he had. Ortiz came in with a good hot tag, but Low Ki quickly turned it around and went for the foot stomp, but was thrown off the ropes by Santana. LAX hit a hanging cutter for a two count when Low Ki broke the pin with a senton.
Low Ki hit a springboard kick into Ortiz, who was in an electric chair position, but it only got them a two count. Santana took out Low Ki outside the ring, leaving Ortiz in the ring with Martinez for the finish with a Death Valley Driver. Outside the awkward start, this was really good once it got going. Santana seemed hurt in the midsection as he walked to the back.
– Sami Callihan cut a promo on Jimmy Havoc saying that he was feeling violent and tonight, he and his brother from across the pond were going to see who was the most violent player.
Tessa Blanchard defeated Joey Ryan
Ryan did his shtick during his entrance with the baby oil and lollipop, but the look on Blanchard’s face was all worth it. Ryan immediately told Tessa to touch his penis to which Blanchard replied by flipping him off which woke up the crowd.
We started with Tessa locking up, but Joey forced Tessa’s hand on his penis. He did this on several occassions to chants of the fans telling her to “touch his d*ck”. Tessa instead suplexed Joey by his chest hair. Tessa hit a couple of forearms and then hit a great Magnum on the corner. Joey retaliated by tossing Tessa right into the ringpost.
Joey started working over Tessa’s left arm, working it against the guardrail and the apron. Tessa fought back with one arm, but Joey quickly cut her off, always going for the arm. Joey’s offense was nice and vicious. Tessa eventually hit a desperation huricanrana and a dive to turn things around. She hit a top rope cannonball for a two count. Joey hit a huge Pumphandle Suplex, but he was getting too cocky for his own good, giving Tessa time to recover. Joey hit a spinebuster for a two count and transitioned into another armbar. Tessa got out and hit a couple of Tornado DDTs for another near fall.
Joey hit the Boobplex, which commentary had trouble calling, and finally got Tessa’s hand on his penis for the YouPornPlex. Joey got a second lollipop on Tessa and a superkick for another two count. Joey went for the Mustache Ride, but Tessa countered and hit the top rope Magnum for the pin.
Even with Ryan’s shtick, this was a good match. Tessa was a great babyface and Joey was a great heel.
X-Division Champion Rich Swann defeated Flamita to retain
Flamita replacied his fellow Dragon Gate roster member Yamato, but was announced as part of AAA regardless.
They started the match with a fast paced exchange of reversals and flips ending with Swann hitting a dive on Flamita to gain control of the match. Swann slowed down the match and locked in an abdominal stretch on Flamita who made it to the ropes. After a couple of chops, Flamita hit Swann with a superkick, a 619 on the corner, and a Tope con Giro.
Back in the ring, Swann and Flamita exchanged kicks before the latter got a two count with a backbreaker. Swann hit a striking combo for a two count himself. Swann went for the Phoenix Splash, but Flamita dodged and hit a Spanish Fly. Flamita hit a Tiger Driver and splash for a near fall. Both men got into a strong style striking battle that ended with Swann dodging Flamita and hitting a Lethal Injection for a two count. Swann hit a Standing Frankensteiner and the Phoenix Splash to retain the championship to end a good match.
– Sabu and RVD cut a promo backstage putting over the Lucha Bros, but he said that when it came to a fight, he wouldn’t want anyone else by his side than Sabu. This was a total RVD and Sabu promo if you’ve ever seen one.
Sami Callihan defeated Jimmy Havoc in a Monster’s Ball match
Havoc came out without music, but he had his trusty staple gun and chain with him. Callihan came out with a trash can and the bat that made him famous.
Havoc got an initlal quick cheap shot and after swerving Callihan with a dive, he got the first staple shot on Callihan. Havoc chased Sami around the ring stapling him, one to his private parts. Callihan threw a desperation chair to Havoc’s head, busting him open. They kept brawling outside using the weapons that were surrounding the ring. They fought up to the apron where Havoc went for a piledriver, but Callihan reversed and hit one himself.
Back in the ring, Callihan brought out another stapler. Havoc went for a sunset flip which Sami blocked by stapling some dirty newspapers on Havoc. Callihan low blowed Havoc and went to hit him with a frying pan several times. Callihan then produced lemons which he squeezed all over Havoc’s cuts. Sami placed Havoc inside a trash can and swung a chair into him, but Jimmy made a comeback with the trash can on him, and turned the match around.
Jimmy started cutting Sami with paper, going for his hand, mouth, and the space between his toes. Havoc hit a Death Valley Driver into the trash can for a two count. Jimmy brought out jumbo sized Legos, which actually hurt less than the normal ones. Callihan hit a piledriver on them for a one count. Callihan finally went for the bat strike, but instead of pinning Havoc, he set up two chairs for another piledriver and pin to win a fun hardcore match.
Both men bumped fists afterward.
Impact Tag Team Champions Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) defeated Rob Van Dam & Sabu in a non-title extreme dream match
From the start, we got dueling chants of “RVD”, “Cero Miedo”, and “Sa F’n Bu”. They exchanged taunts with each other which got “This is awesome” chants. Eventually, Sabu got tired and went after Pentagon. They hit each other with kicks before ending with a standoff.
Sabu and RVD isolated Fenix first, but Pentagon came in and took a Rolling Thunder by RVD. Sabu got a near fall on Fenix after an RVD monkey flip. Pentagon chopped both Sabu and RVD, setting up the former for a double superkick. Lucha Bros hit a couple of double team moves, but Sabu was there to break up the pin.
Sabu and RVD brought out a table, but the Lucha Bros cut them off before they could set it up. Eventually, both Lucha Bros ended on the table with Sabu and RVD hitting stereo leg drops for a two count. RVD went for the frog splash, but Pentagon tossed a chair, taking him out. Pentagon hit the Spike Fear Factor on Sabu for the win.
The match was somewhat rushed and some spots seemed out of position, but the action between RVD vs. Pentagon or Fenix was good. The finish felt slightly underwhelming since we didn’t get the 5-Star Frog Splash in RVD’s big return.
Lucha Bros offered handshakes to their opponents, and they all celebrated together in the ring to close the show.
**********
The show wasn’t exactly good, but I wouldn’t call it bad either. There were a lot of production hiccups when it came to audio, timing, and the competence of the camera crew that really hurt the show.
The Young Bucks are the new AAA Tag Team champions following tonight’s AAA Rey de Reyes event.
After the Lucha Bros. defeated Rey Escorpion and El Texano Jr. to win the titles in the main event, Konnan came out and confronted the new champions. At that moment, the lights went out. When they came back on, The Young Bucks were in the ring and an impromptu match for the tag team titles started.
It was a short bout, with the Bucks winning the titles after hitting the Meltzer Driver on Pentagon Jr., while previously laying out Fenix on the floor with an indytaker. The two then exited the ring and celebrated with Konnan as the show ended.
Cody also appeared earlier in the show, mentioning to Hugo Savinovich that he would like to bring in names to AAA such as Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho. Konnan, Taurus, Rey Escorpion and El Texano Jr. came out to confront him and it ended up turning into a brawl with several other wrestlers coming out for the save.
After multiple angles were shot to set up the match, The Young Bucks vs. Lucha Bros is finally official for AEW Double or Nothing.
The Young Bucks vs. Pentagon Jr. & Fenix was confirmed for Double or Nothing at the end of this week’s episode of Being the Elite. The announcement comes after an angle where The Young Bucks showed up at an AAW show over the weekend, cost Pentagon & Fenix the AAW Tag Team, titles, and issued the challenge for Double or Nothing.
That was the follow up to Pentagon and Fenix attacking The Young Bucks at this month’s ticket announcement party. The storyline for their match has been built around both teams thinking they’re the best in the world.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada is hosting Double or Nothing on Saturday, May 25. Here’s the updated card:
Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho
The Young Bucks vs. The Lucha Bros
Hangman Page vs. PAC
Britt Baker vs. Nyla Rose vs. Kylie Rae
SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) vs. Cima and two partners from Oriental Wrestling Entertainment
Over Budget Battle Royale (Sonny Kiss, Kip Sabian, and Brandon Cutler confirmed thus far)
The build to Double or Nothing was furthered with an angle at Saturday night’s AAW show in Chicago, Illinois.
As The Lucha Bros (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) were defending their AAW Tag Team titles against LAX (Santana & Ortiz) and AR Fox & Myron Reed, The Young Bucks attacked Pentagon and Fenix while the referee was down. They laid out Pentagon and Fenix with superkicks, Matt Jackson gave Pentagon a package piledriver, and they hit the Meltzer Driver on Fenix.
LAX hit their Street Sweeper finisher on Pentagon to become AAW Tag Team Champions.
The Young Bucks then came back into the ring and got on the microphone. They challenged Pentagon & Fenix to a match at AEW Double or Nothing, and Fenix replied that the best answer is what the people say. Fenix said the people want to watch The Young Bucks vs. the best tag team on the planet — The Lucha Bros.
The angle ended with The Young Bucks superkicking Pentagon and Fenix again. Matt Jackson said they know Pentagon and Fenix’s schedule, and The Young Bucks will see them around.
The Young Bucks’ appearance at AAW was the follow up to The Lucha Bros attacking them at the Double or Nothing ticket announcement party earlier this month. Double or Nothing is taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, May 25.
Video of the Young Bucks-Lucha Bros angle from AAW is available to watch below:
Mystery tag team match: Brian Pillman Jr. & Davey Boy Smith Jr. defeated Tommy Dreamer & The Sandman
Full rundown —
The opening video has been updated to include the Hart Foundation’s Doomsday Destroyer and Tom Lawlor winning the MLW World Heavyweight Championship from last week.
We opened from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia with a quick recap of last week’s episode showing the final moments and title celebrations from Lawlor and the Hart Foundation.
Myron Reed defeated DJZ (6:24)
DJZ hit a combination of a dropkick, jawbreaker, and springboard back elbow to take the upper hand early on. Reed took a breather on the outside, but DJZ had other ideas and landed a suicide dive from the apron through the ropes, in front of the ring post, onto Reed on the outside.
DJZ followed up inside the ring with a splash and a springboard moonsault, but Reed got his knees up. This gave Reed the opportunity to land a huge dive to the outside of his own.
Back in the ring, DJZ hit a neckbreaker — but Reed was able to fight back and hit his suplex into a stunner combination and quickly a middle rope springboard cutter for a close two count. He jaw-jacked with the referee, which seemed to cost him some precious time as DJZ cut him off on the top rope and joined him up there.
Reed kicked DJZ off and hoped to land a flipping whoopee cushion, but DJZ caught him and planted him with a powerbomb. DJZ tried to follow up with the DZT, but Reed blocked it. DJZ then tried an O’Connor roll — but Reed rolled through, grabbed the tights, and held on for the win.
– H2TV was back with Teddy Hart and Brian Pillman Jr. for a Valentine’s Day Q&A session. Pillman was asked what girlfriend he will spend Valentine’s Day with, and Hart was asked what pussy (cat) he would be spending it with. They were asked if Davey Boy Smith Jr. is single and if he is as big as he looks on TV. Hart finished by saying that Pillman has gold in his future.
Gringo Loco defeated Puma King (7:37)
They quickly leapt into arm drags, roll-throughs, flips, and leg sweeps. Loco’s headscissors was reversed, and both tried pinfalls before nipping up at the same time to the adulation of the crowd.
Puma King took a cheap shot to take the advantage and bit Loco’s ear to add insult. Loco fought back and hit his headscissors, but Puma King quickly hit one of his own and followed up with a springboard splash to the outside.
A crossbody and superkick followed in the ring as Puma King stayed on the advantage. He evaded Loco by rolling out of the ring but was not expecting him to immediately spring over the top rope and land a rolling dive.
Back in the ring, Loco went up top and hit a second rope corkscrew elbow for a two count. Puma King fought back with a jumping codebreaker and rolled through into a Camel Clutch pinning combination for a two count of his own.
After an exchange on the top rope, Loco leapt off and hit a huge springboard middle rope cutter — but Puma King got his shoulder up at the last moment. Puma King came close with a Code Red but was visibly frustrated after another two count. He was then crotched on the top rope as he took too much time but caught Loco and took him off the top with a headscissor takeover.
Puma King sprung to the opposite corner — but Loco caught him again and was able to hit a huge Spanish Fly from the top rope to pick up the win.
– Matt Striker hyped up that we would be hearing from Pentagon Jr. and Fenix tonight on their future with MLW.
– MJF was backstage talking about Teddy Hart. He said he doesn’t get Hart and he wants the admiration that Hart gets. He wants the fans to thank him for being the good role model that Hart can’t be. MJF said that next week — he will beat down Teddy Hart and win back his MLW Middleweight Championship that he never lost.
– Cameras caught up with Tommy Dreamer earlier in the parking lot. He said Pillman should be honored to be in this building. He said Pillman is everything he doesn’t like — Pillman is coming to his house and will be lucky to make it out alive.
– We then had a Jimmy Havoc hype video saying that he will be back.
Brian Pillman Jr. & Davey Boy Smith Jr. defeated Tommy Dreamer & The Sandman (8:07)
Pillman came out himself and took the mic. He said he isn’t going to step into the ring with a washed up ECW junkie. He has the constitutional right to choose his own partner, and he picked Davey Boy Smith Jr.
Dreamer’s partner needed no introduction as the sounds of Metallica introduced The Sandman to the Philadelphia loyal. We got the full five-minute entrance — including fans downing beers, a Teddy Hart embrace, and The Sandman mopping up some tactically spilled beverage from some women.
Sandman made his way to the ring apron as the final chords played and he finished his sixth beer of the evening. Well, there is no way I can confirm that for a fact. He finished his sixth beer of his entrance and spat the last drops in Smith’s face.
The technical catch-as-catch-can masterpiece we were all hoping for was quickly ruined as, unpredictably, the action immediately spilled to the outside for a fist fight. Sandman smashed a beer over Pillman’s head, then Dreamer rammed him face-first into a fan’s boot.
In the ring, the ECW originals hit a double back elbow and double elbow drop. Sandman chopped and booted Pillman in the corner before Dreamer got in for some of his own.
Smith hit Dreamer from the apron to give the Hart Foundation the upper hand. Pillman hit a side Russian leg sweep to insult Sandman. Smith came in, legally this time, and hit Dreamer with a huge standing vertical suplex for a two count.
Dreamer had some hope with a DDT and got the hot tag to Sandman. He ran wild over Pillman with right hands and a white Russian leg sweep that Smith broke up the cover on. Out of nowhere, Dreamer hit a big cutter on Smith as Sandman found a Singapore cane and began to stalk Pillman around the ring.
Pillman scrambled in all four corners, finding his own cane, a piece of broken table, and finally a human being to stop Sandman in his tracks. Pillman lifted the hood off the ring dweller to reveal the Blue Meanie! Sandman went for the cane shot, Pillman pulled Meanie in front of him, and Meanie showed his true colors and waffled Pillman with a right hand. Sandman finally got his cane shot in.
In the ring, Dreamer had set up two chairs facing each other. He went for a Spiccoli driver on Smith, but Pillman hit him in the face with the Singapore cane. That gave Smith the opportunity to slip off and hit a big Pillman-assisted powerbomb through the chairs for the win. Dreamer and Sandman received a standing ovation as they left the ring.
– We cut backstage to see Pentagon Jr. & Fenix. Fenix said the Lucha Bros are here to take over the world as they are the best tag team in the world. Pentagon followed up saying they wrestle wherever they want, when they want, and they don’t care who it’s against. They will be in Chicago next month, they are staying in MLW, and they will be waiting for any tag team.
– Before the show went off the air, we cut to Lawlor staggering out of a club at 8 a.m. He just had an all-nighter with the MLW World Heavyweight Championship and said the work is never done when you’re “Filthy” Tom Lawlor.
Next week —
Teddy Hart defends the MLW Middleweight title against MJF.
By Joseph Currier with reporting from Dave Meltzer
Update —
AAW tweeted an update on Fenix and noted that he’s been released from the hospital: “UPDATE on @ReyFenixMx – He has been treated and released from the hospital with a muscle contusion. He is feeling good and will be back up to 100% after some rest. We thank you all for your concern and for making #LUCHACITY such wonderful time!”
Original —
Fenix was taken to the hospital after suffering a stinger at last night’s AAW Lucha City Limits show in Austin, Texas.
Fenix & Pentagon Jr. defeated AR Fox & Myron Reed to win the AAW Tag Team titles in the main event of the show, but the finish was abrupt after Fenix was injured during a spot where he hit a diving cutter. Fenix stayed down after the spot and was helped to the back following the match.
Due to the injury, Fenix will miss his remaining dates this weekend. He hopes to be back for Impact Wrestling’s television tapings in Las Vegas, Nevada next weekend.
Fenix & Pentagon appeared at All Elite Wrestling’s ticket announcement party on Thursday night and took part in an angle where they laid out The Young Bucks, seemingly setting up a match between the teams for AEW Double or Nothing on May 25.
Tonight’s Twitch broadcast was hosted by Josh Mathews and Don Callis, who is currently in Osaka, Japan for New Japan Pro Wrestling. After the show, Jake & Dave Crist joined the feed for a Q&A.
Impact Wrestling returned from Fronton Mexico in Mexico City this week with a huge main event as LAX defended their Tag Team titles against the Lucha Bros (Pentagon & Fenix).
This was also the go-home show for next week’s “Uncaged” episode of Impact, which will feature Johnny Impact defending his World title against Brian Cage, Moose, and Killer Kross in a four-way match, Taya Valkyrie vs. Tessa Blanchard in a street fight for the Knockouts Championship, and Team AAA vs. Team Impact in a World Cup elimination match.
Rich Swann & Willie Mack defeated oVe (Jake & Dave Crist)
oVe jumped Swann and Mack to start the match, going after Swann. He managed to escape and tag in Mack, who was in a better position to take on the initial flurry of offense. Mack came in, threw both men out, and hit a tope con giro. Swann then followed with a tornillo, but Jake recovered and hit a tope suicida into a tornado DDT on Swann before he could make it back in the ring.
On the other side of the ring, Dave took out Mack with a superkick.
Back in the ring, Dave worked over Mack’s head with a modified STF and a series of double-team moves, mostly taking turns kicking Mack and making a lot of quick tags. Jake got a two count with a Northern Lights suplex.
After some more punishment, Mack dodged some offense, but he and Jake collided in the middle of the ring with a pair of crossbodies. That was enough to give Mack the opening to tag Swann in.
Swann came in strong, hitting a few kicks on Dave and a standing Frankensteiner and frog splash on Jake. oVe cut Swann off the top rope and hit a spike piledriver, but Mack broke up the pin attempt.
Mack hit a double stunner on both Crist brothers, followed by a double Lethal injection. Swann then hit a second rope 450 on Dave for the win. The match started somewhat chaotic, but it got a lot better towards the end.
Pentagon Jr. & Fenix cut a promo where they said that tonight, they will win the Tag Team titles. Fenix said they’re wrestling in front of their family and their people — and so tonight, they’re going all out. Pentagon talked about Konnan saying that he wanted the titles to be in the family, but after tonight, they’ll be on their side of the family.
Mathews and Callis announced that next week, for Uncaged, Johnny Impact defends his World Championship against Brian Cage, Moose, and Killer Kross.
The Flashback Moment of the Week, voted by the Twitch viewers, was Pentagon Jr. defeating Austin Aries and Fenix to win the Impact World title at Redemption.
Impact Wrestling and the NFL Alumni association’s Las Vegas chapter announced a partnership. They will be doing community outreach and programs of the sort.
Kiera Hogan (w/ Jordynne Grace) defeated Dark Allie (w/ Su Yung)
Hogan started the match at 60 mph, attacking Allie at the bell. Hogan hit her running kick and forearm combo for a quick pin attempt. She then hit a bulldog for a two count.
Allie finally managed to stop Hogan with a running clothesline and get some time to compose herself. She hit a sliding forearm for a two count and started working over Hogan’s back. Allie went for the codebreaker, but Hogan countered with a kick and got a two count. Allie hit a backstabber for another near fall. Hogan hit a reverse X-Factor for a 10 count tease.
Outside the ring, we saw Yung leave her glove in the ring, setting it up for Allie to grab. Grace saw that and took out Yung, but as Allie realized that Yung wasn’t there, she assumed that Rosemary had replaced Yung once again.
Thanks to the distraction, Hogan hit a Cross Rhodes-like move for the win. Not much of a match, it was short and almost felt like a segment.
Johnny Impact was interviewed backstage about having to defend his title against Cage, Moose, and Kross next week. Johnny was irate that he had to find out during an interview in the middle of a hall. Cage came out and looked annoyed that he had to share his title shot with more people.
We got the announcement of the main event for Impact’s United We Stand show, which will be the Lucha Bros taking on RVD & Sabu in an “extreme dream match.” United We Stand is a show co-promoted with WrestlePro that’s taking place in Rahway, New Jersey on the Thursday of WrestleMania week.
Backstage, we saw Allie and Yung looking for Rosemary in some corner of the building. Suddenly, a message appeared that read “The witching is upon us…don’t say we didn’t warn you,” signed Rosemary.
Trey Miguel (w/ The Rascalz) defeated Rohit Raju (w/ Gama Singh and Raj Singh)
Pretty good match. It started with both doing a series of counters and reversals, with Raju actually getting some upper hand early on but later getting outwrestled by Miguel.
Miguel hit a springboard dropkick, sending Raju to the outside, but he couldn’t follow with a dive. Raju hit a big DDT on the apron and finally had control of the match. He distracted the referee at points, allowing Raj to get some cheap shots outside the ring. Meanwhile, inside the ring, Raju worked over Miguel’s upper body.
As they started trading counters again, Miguel hit a standing foot stomp on the back of Raju’s head to finally level out the match. They got into a strike-off where Raju tried to give Miguel an eye poke but failed. Miguel hit the corner Trey-1-9 and a neckbreaker for a two count. Raju hit a gordbuster for two. Raju got another near fall after a running knee to the back of Miguel’s head.
Raj tried to interfere again, but Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz stopped him and scared Gama away. Back in the ring, Trey hit X19 and the meteora for the win.
We had a Team AAA showcase featuring Psycho Clown, Hijo del Vikingo, Puma King, and Aerostar, who will be fighting for the World Cup next week against Team Impact Wrestling.
Scarlett Bordeaux announced that she is making her in-ring debut at the Vegas tapings.
Sami Callihan defeated Puma King
Another great match, definitely worth a watch. Callihan started by jumping Puma King during his entrance, but he wasn’t able to follow up as Puma King composed himself quickly and hit a suplex to get some time.
Puma King responded with a tope con giro. They started brawling outside the ring, with Puma King kicking Callihan all over until Callihan hid behind the ref and poked Puma King’s eyes, getting an opening to hit a tornado DDT for the countout tease.
Back in the ring, Callihan hit a sit-down powerbomb for a one count. He worked over Puma King’s foot and went after his mask. Callihan started chopping him but kept getting distracted playing to the fans, giving Puma King more and more time to recover.
Callihan went for a foot stomp, but Puma King turned it into a Frankensteiner from the tree-of-woe position and followed with a dropkick to make a comeback.
Back from commercial, Callihan had regained control. As we saw the recap from during the commercial, Puma King took a bad spill outside, hurting his already worked on foot. Puma King still tried to make a comeback as they got into a striking battle, ending with both men down for a double knockout tease.
Puma King hit a variation of the Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count. He followed with a series of strikes, but Callihan countered with a huge lariat for a two count. Callihan started to chase the piledriver, but Puma King escaped and went for La Magistral. Callihan reached the ropes to break the pin.
Puma King went for a springboard kick, but Callihan caught him with a kick. They traded roll-ups, but it ended with Callihan rolling Puma King all the way into a piledriver for the win. Puma King was really over in this match.
We got a Taya Valkyrie vs. Tessa Blanchard hype video for next week’s street fight for the Knockouts Championship. Good stuff.
Backstage, Eddie Edwards and Eli Drake met. Drake told Edwards that they were able to win last week without having to rely on weapons and hardcore shtick. Drake told him that next week, they can win the World Cup match. Edwards told Drake to let him do his thing and not get in his way. Drake once again asked Edwards to bring the Wolf Eddie Edwards back.
Melissa Santos interviewed Moose and Killer Kross, who said they have the numbers advantage in next week’s main event. Moose made some NFL analogies that seemed to annoy Kross, showing some dissension going into the title match.
Lucha Bros (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) defeated LAX (Santana & Ortiz) w/ Konnan to win the Impact Tag Team titles
Great back-and-forth match — they went all out bell to bell. I saw this match live and can say that it looked a lot better during this broadcast. The Lucha Bros, as expected, were really over with the crowd in Mexico City. They had a big-match entrance with Chinese Dragon dancers — just in time for Chinese New Year.
The match was full of action at the start. Pentagon went for the Fear Factor, but LAX took him out and countered with an assisted moonsault that Pentagon countered himself with a superkick on Santana while he was in the middle of the air.
Santana took out Fenix, Pentagon took out Ortiz, and the two survivors went face-to-face and went at it. Fenix came back, took out Santana, and went at it with Ortiz in a striking match.
That was followed by Pentagon and Ortiz striking each other until Santana came out of nowhere with a plancha and Fenix hit a double dropkick as they all finally found themselves down. Great start to the match!
Back from commercial, Ortiz and Fenix were the legal men going at it and order had been restored. Fenix hit an uppercut and a foot stomp to the back of Ortiz’s head for a near fall. Ortiz returned with a huge spinebuster to stop Fenix’s momentum.
Pentagon and Santana tagged in and got into a knife chop battle that turned into superkicks and a huge uranage from Santana for a near fall. Pentagon caught Santana and hit a Pentagon Driver that Santana kicked out of for a big two count.
The match once again broke down to tornado style. Santana got a huge near fall with the same move that LAX won with at Homecoming, but Fenix kicked out at two. LAX hit the Street Sweeper, but Pentagon managed to break the pin at the last second.
Pentagon took out Ortiz with a slingblade. Fenix hit a big time kick on Santana and set up the spike Fear Factor, but Santana kicked out! Pentagon went for the Fear Factor again, but Santana kicked out once again. Pentagon finally hit a superkick and Fenix hit a reverse rana and a second spike Fear Factor to win the titles. That got a huge pop.
After the match, LAX congratulated the Lucha Bros. They went face-to-face before giving up the ring for the Lucha Bros to continue their celebration. Ortiz cried as he walked to the back. Pentagon and Fenix posed with the titles to close the show.
Overall, this was a really good episode of Impact. Three of the five matches were great, with a main event that is worth going out of your way to check out. There wasn’t a lot of storyline development as most things for next week’s Uncaged episode had pretty much already been set up, but the three big matches were all hyped throughout the night.
A big tag team match featuring former ECW talent is set for Impact’s United We Stand event during WrestleMania weekend.
Impact announced tonight that Rob Van Dam and Sabu will challenge Penta El 0 M and Rey Fenix at their United We Stand event on April 4. The Lucha Bros are the current Impact tag team champions, with tonight’s episode of Impact showing the title win, but it isn’t clear if the titles will be on the line for this match.
According to Cagematch, the last time Rob Van Dam and Sabu teamed up together was back in 2015 when they defeated the Hardy Boyz at the 2015 WrestleCon Supershow. They also teamed up on an episode of Impact Wrestling in 2010, when they lost to Beer Money.
Tickets are on sale now. It will take place at the Rahway Rec Center in Rahway, New Jersey, and it will stream live on Twitch.
Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix appear to be associated with AEW in some form after the Young Bucks made them an offer during a McAloon Productions show in Georgia last night.
After Fenix and Pentagon Jr. defeated Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian in the main event, The Young Bucks came out and put them over, saying they were the second best tag team in the world, which the two didn’t like. Matt said that if they wanted to prove they were the best, they should join AEW.
Instead of contracts, both Bucks extended their hands, looking for a handshake. Fenix and Pentagon were considering accepting when a group of enhancement talent came in and started to attack everyone. With SCU’s help, they were all dispatched. Once everything was finished, they did end up shaking the Young Bucks’ hands.
Chris Jericho posted on Twitter that he’s heard Pentagon and Fenix had signed an exclusive deal with AEW, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. They still have three seasons left in their Lucha Underground contract, but have been allowed to work other promotions including AAA, CMLL, MLW and Impact.
Dave Meltzer is reporting that they would need permission from Lucha Underground to work Double or Nothing but doesn’t expect there to be any issue with them working the show. They are currently on hiatus, with no word of a new season.
Impact Wrestling closed their set of tapings with night two at Fronton Mexico in Mexico City on Saturday. Here’s what happened on night one if you missed it.
X-Division Champion Rich Swann defeated El Hijo del Vikingo in a non-title match
This was a great, must-see match and a great showing for Hijo del Vikingo, who got a big reaction from the crowd. Swann pinned Vikingo after a 450 Splash.
After the match, oVe came out to confront Swann. Sami Callihan talked about the history between he and Swann, saying that he was always there for him, more than his family, and so Swann owed everything he had achieved to him. Callihan offered Swann to join oVe, but he rejected the invitation.
There was no clear interference from either Grace or Yung, but the finish saw Grace take out Yung, distracting Allie who left her guard down for Hogan to roll her up for the win.
Trey Miguel (w/The Rascalz) defeated Rohit Raju (w/Raj Singh and Gama Singh)
This was an action packed match that got a good amount of time. Miguel got a better reception from the fans and won with a top rope meterora.
Knockouts Champion Taya Valkyrie defeated Tessa Blanchard in a street fight to retain
These two women went out there looking to give it their all. The spots in the match were not particularly violent in nature, but looked brutal live. There was a big board in the ring that they were not able to break even after a second spear against it. The finish saw Valkyrie hit a double foot stomp from the top rope onto Blanchard, who laid on a table. The crowd reacted well to the weapon spots and were behind the champ.
Willie Mack defeated Ethan Page
In a short match, Mack pinned Page after a stunner.
Impact Champion Johnny Impact defeated Moose, Killer Kross, and Brian Cage in a four-way match to retain
This was another great must-see match with four big dudes going all out. The fnish saw Impact hit Starship Pain on Moose while Cage hit the Drill Claw on Kross, but Impact covered Moose a second earlier so he won the match. Cage and Impact faced off afterward.
Psycho Clown defeated Fallah Bahh
Like on Friday, the reaction to Psycho Clown wasn’t favorable. He won with La Magistral.
Sami Callihan defeated Puma King
King had a great reaction from the fans, while Callihan was a heat machine. Callihan pinned Puma King after a piledriver in a great match with a lot of time.
Eli Drake and Eddie Edwards defeated The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz)
The finish saw Drake hit the Gravy Train on Xavier after hitting him with Edwards’ kendo stick behind the referee’s back. After the match, Edwards complained to Drake about using the stick to win. Edwards brought out the stick to begin with, so I’m guessing he was just jealous someone else used it.
Lucha Brothers (Pentagon and Fenix) defeated LAX (w/Konnan) to become the new Impact World Tag Team Champions
The Lucha Bros got a big match entrance with Chinese dragon dancers. This was about as good as the Homecoming match, if not slightly better. The crowd was hot for the Lucha Bros, and when some fans started an ‘Impact Wrestling’ chant, the Cero Miedo chant would overtake it. The finish saw Pentagon pin Santana with the spike Fear Factor, while Fenix hit a Tope con Giro on Ortiz on the outside.
After the match, all four men embraced.
The show ended with all the babyfaces coming out to celebrate with the Lucha Brothers. They got an ‘Impact Wrestling’ chant going, and stayed for a while taking pictures with the fans and high-fiving all around.
Xplosion Tapings —
Fallah Bahh defeated Raj Singh (w/Gama Singh)
Bahh was really over with the crowd and pinned Raj after a Banzai Drop.
Jordynne Grace defeated Su Yung
Grace pinned Yung after a Pumphandle Half Nelson Driver.
This week’s opening video had a special emphasis on Sami Callihan and Rich Swann’s efforts to not have each other’s partners fight. The video also featured the top feuds going into Sunday’s Homecoming pay-per-view.
Josh Mathews did a voiceover bidding farewell to Pop TV and announcing their move to the Pursuit Channel starting at 10 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, January 11.
Rich Swann, Willie Mack, Dezmond Xavier, Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz defeated Sami Callihan, Dave Crist, Jake Crist, Matt Sydal & Ethan Page
Miguel and Jake Crist started the match with a series of counters and reversals. There were quick tags to Xavier and Callihan, and once again, after one move, Wentz got tagged in. Swann tagged in with a double axe handle. Mack came in and within a minute, all members of the babyface team had been legal.
Everyone got in the ring and faced off. They started brawling around the ring, leaving Miguel and Callihan inside, with the latter dropping Miguel with a huge lariat and then another one on the apron. Miguel countered and hit a rana to the outside, starting a sequence where everyone did dives to the outside one by one, ending with Xavier’s Space Flying Tiger Drop.
Miguel went to the top rope, but Jake Crist caught him and hit a cutter from the top to the floor on top of everyone. We got “This is awesome” chants.
Back from commercial, Callihan worked over Miguel in the ring. Dave Crist tagged in and worked over Miguel’s legs for a bit. Sydal came in and choked Miguel until he reached the ropes. Finally, Page came in, but Miguel managed to make a small comeback and make it to his corner.
Swann came in with the hot tag and took out everyone, including a double cutter on Callihan and Dave Crist and a Phoenix Splash on Page for a two count. Mack tagged in and was going for a piledriver, but Callihan came in and hit a big kick — followed by everyone taking turns to hit their finishers. Page finally got a two count on Mack.
Mack took out Page to the floor, only for Dave Crist to get a blind tag, but Mack caught him with a top rope stunner for the pin.
After the match, Callihan attacked Mack with his bat. oVe set up a table in the ring and hit the All Seeing Eye on Mack through the table. Swann dragged himself to protect Mack’s body, but oVe walked away, letting Swann live another day.
We got a video package recounting the complete Eddie Edwards and Moose saga.
Eli Drake came to the ring to address his Monster’s Ball match with Abyss at Homecoming. Drake brought up that he is being forced into the Monster’s Ball match by Impact’s management, but he has already taken out Joseph Park — so Abyss is not coming back.
Drake threatened that if Abyss makes it to Homecoming, he’ll be forced to become what he hates and take out Abyss, because he is “hardcore.”
Tommy Dreamer came down with a chair. He hit a DDT on Drake, but as he went for a Pillmanizer, the lights went out and Raven appeared. Raven and Dreamer went face-to-face, but instead of fighting, they teamed up against Drake as they ran him out. ECW will never die.
Back from commercial, Gama Singh introduced the Desi Hit Squad and dedicated this match to Scarlett Bordeaux. She came out to watch the match from the ramp.
Fallah Bahh & KM defeated The Desi Hit Squad (Rohit Raju & Raj Singh)
The match started with the Desi Hit Squad jumping Bahh and KM, tossing the latter outside and going for Bahh inside the ring. Thanks to some dirty tactics, Raju and Singh got some offense and double team moves every time that Bahh showed signs of a comeback.
Singh went for a scoop slam, but the weight of Bahh was too much and his knees buckled, allowing Bahh to escape and tag in KM.
KM came in strong until getting taken out after Singh raked his eyes. Bahh recovered and hit a flying crossbody on both Desi Hit Squad members, followed by a Banzai Drop on Singh for the pin. Bordeaux seemed impressed before leaving to the back.
Pentagon Jr. and Fenix cut a promo on LAX saying that both teams are similar, but history shows that when Konnan is not with Santana and Ortiz, they tend to lose. Pentagon said that last time, Santana pushed him and thus all respect is out the window. Fenix said that come January 6, they’re winning the Tag Team titles. Well, this escalated out of nowhere.
Dark Allie (w/ Su Yung) defeated Kiera Hogan
Hogan started the match all fired up going after Allie with a series of kicks and a bulldog for a one count. Hogan hit a tope suicida on Yung when Allie dodged the attack, but the distraction allowed Allie to blindside Hogan and get control of the match. Allie’s offense was mostly stomps and clotheslines.
Hogan made a comeback, but she couldn’t finish up Allie, who actually landed a codebreaker out of nowhere for the pin. This was a sloppy match.
After the match, Allie and Yung attacked Hogan in the corner until Jordynne Grace came out for the save. Grace hit a Samoan slam on Allie, a sit-down powerbomb on Yung, and finished them off with some running knees. This story just took a weird direction — Jordynne Grace is not someone that should be fighting for souls right now.
We got a video from “earlier today” with Trevor Lee going to Impact management asking for a match.
LAX cut a promo from outside the venue. Ortiz said all they wanted was to be pro wrestlers and brought up that Santana and he have always had each other’s back. They talked about losing when Konnan wasn’t there, but they need to prove it to everyone and themselves that they can get the job done with or without Konnan. Great babyface promos by both.
Killer Kross defeated Trevor Lee
This started with both men locking up, with Kross overpowering Lee to get control and Lee reversing out of Kross’ locks. Kross eventually was too much for Lee and started tossing him around in the corner. He hit the Doomsday Saito and locked in the Kross Jacket to choke out Lee. A squash match that reminds us of Kross’ dominance.
Kross then wished Johnny Impact luck against Brian Cage at Homecoming. Kross ordered the timekeeper to hold a cinder block to Lee’s head as Kross punched the block into pieces. The timekeeper ran off and Lee was written off Impact Wrestling.
The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) defeated Impact World Champion Johnny Impact & Brian Cage
Cage and Fenix started the match — a speed and power matchup with Cage catching Fenix’s every move by using his strength alone. Pentagon came in and Cage also manhandled him until Impact blind tagged himself into the match.
Impact did a good job at first, working on Pentagon and dodging his attacks, but out of nowhere, Pentagon hit a slingblade and a backstabber and turned things around. After some offense by Pentagon, Cage was now the one with a blind tag, but the Lucha Brothers cut Cage off before he could take control.
Cage and Pentagon fought outside the ring as Fenix went for a suicide dive, but Impact cut him off with a kick and hit an Asai moonsault on Pentagon. Fenix recovered and hit a tornillo to take everyone out.
Back from commercial, Impact and Cage continued blind tagging each other as they worked over Fenix. Impact hit a huge Spanish Fly from the top rope for a near fall that Pentagon broke up. Pentagon hit the Pentagon Driver on Impact, but Cage saved him from the pin.
Everyone got in the ring and traded kicks, with Cage hitting Impact with a discus clothesline by mistake, leaving Impact open for Pentagon and Fenix to hit the foot stomp/Fear Factor combination for the win. Fenix got a clean pin over the champion. This match did a good job displaying Pentagon and Fenix’s synchronicity and the tension between Impact and Cage.
After the match, Cage and Impact blamed each other for losing. They pushed each other’s buttons until they came to blows, with them having a big pull-apart with security and the locker room coming out.
The show closed with Homecoming’s cold opening video. A lot of nostalgia footage from the Asylum years.
Overall, this was a good go-home show that touched on all previously announced matches and finished building up Homecoming card.
