WWE fans were introduced to Rey Fenix in March last year not too long after his brother, Penta, arrived on the WWE main roster.
In a recent interview with RRBG Inc (seen below), Fenix discussed the possibility of eventually reuniting the Lucha Bros in WWE, emphasizing the importance of the two getting the opportunity to initially demonstrate their talents as individual in-ring competitors.
“I see it this way: it’s not bad. Obviously, I miss fighting with my brother, but it’s a good opportunity to show who we are individually,” Fenix said. “I’ve worked with Je’Von Evans, I’ve worked with Andrade when he was there, I’m working with Sami Zayn, I’ve worked with Rey (Mysterio) at recent AAA events. I think it’s a good opportunity for us as wrestlers and for the public to see something different.”
“And believe me, they know that people are waiting for the Lucha Bros, and the Lucha Bros are waiting for the moment. But something that wrestling and this sport have taught me is patience. It’s going to be the right moment that the Lucha Bros deserve.”
“It’s not that we don’t deserve it and you don’t deserve to see the Lucha Bros today, but I know that when the moment gets there is the right moment, and it’s going to be the right moment.”
A reunion for the two almost happened in AAA in late-2025. They were scheduled to face Dominik Mysterio & El Grande Americano at AAA Guerra de Titanes but a shoulder injury the month earlier left Penta medically unfit to compete. Rey Mysterio stepped in as a replacement.
In the new edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shared the latest on The Lucha Brothers’ AEW contract situation.
Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix are both impending free agents. There’s an internal belief within AEW that they will be leaving for WWE, though Meltzer writes that AEW does have the option to extend Fenix’s contract for another year due to time he’s missed because of injury:
Obviously Penta & Fenix are not being featured. There is concern now because AEW has the right to extend Fenix’s deal for another year due to time off due to injuries. Because of all the talk of his going to WWE and when he’s starting and such, Penta did a tweet saying to stop the gossip and ‘My present is in AEW.’ There were rumors going around he was going to NXT or getting a physical for WWE in Pittsburgh and he’s obviously not about to do anything of the sort while under AEW contract. He just as obviously can’t have signed a WWE deal until that AEW contract expires.
Penta’s AEW contract is expected to expire between August and September of this year. Fenix’s deal is also believed to be up soon if AEW does not extend it.
Fenix was set to compete for indie promotion New Era Wrestling in El Paso, Texas, on September 27, but it was announced last week that Fenix is off the show “due to personal circumstances.”
The Lucha Brothers debuted for AEW in 2019 and are former AEW Tag Team, AEW Trios, and ROH Tag Team Champions. Fenix is a former AEW International Champion as well.
Bryan Alvarez reports that Rey Fenix’s injury was a dislocation, not a broken arm as was initially thought: “Fenix update: No break, just badly dislocated”
Fenix still needs to undergo an MRI to check for ligament damage.

Rey Fenix suffered an arm injury during the main event of AEW Dynamite’s TBS debut.
Near the end of The Lucha Brothers’ AEW Tag Team title match against Jurassic Express, Fenix suffered the injury when Luchasaurus chokeslammed him off the apron and through a table on the outside. Fenix was headed to the hospital after the show and will likely need surgery.
It was immediately apparent that Fenix was injured after taking the chokeslam. He grabbed his arm and motioned for the medical staff. In the ring, Jungle Boy countered out of a package piledriver by Penta El Zero Miedo — but Penta countered out of the Killswitch. Jungle Boy then countered Penta’s Made in Japan into a pin to win the AEW Tag Team titles for Jurassic Express.
Jurassic Express winning the titles was the planned finish.
The Lucha Brothers had been AEW Tag Team Champions since winning the titles from The Young Bucks in a steel cage match at All Out last September.
This is Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus’ first title win in AEW.
AEW Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers will defend the gold against FTR on Friday’s AEW Rampage.
The original match set for last Friday’s show was changed to PAC and Penta El Zero Miedo vs. FTR as Rey Fenix had visa issues and couldn’t travel to Georgia for the show. Originally scheduled for two-out-of-three falls, this will be a traditional tag team affair instead.
Friday will see the long-awaited pro wrestling debut of Taz’s son Hook as he takes on Fuego Del Sol. Taz made the announcement on Wednesday’s Dynamite in reaction to Dante Martin swerving Team Taz and eliminating Ricky Starks during the Dynamite Diamond battle royal after Martin recently joined the faction.
SuperKliq’s Adam Cole will face Wheeler Yuta of Best Friends while in six-woman tag team action, Ruby Soho, Anna Jay and Tay Conti will face Nyla Rose, The Bunny and Penelope Ford.
This week’s matches were taped after Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite at the UBS Arena on Long Island, New York.

Your hosts are Excalibur and Taz and we’re right into the action.
Lucha Bros (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated FTR (w/ Tully Blanchard) to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship (13:53)
Both teams were in the ring at the start of the show.
Fenix and Dax Harwood started out. Cash Wheeler ran in to try and interfere, but Fenix was able to handle them both. Penta El Zero Miedo got the tag and Fenix came off the top of his shoulders for a splash. Wheeler and Penta were then the legal men. Wheeler interrupted Penta’s glove gimmick spot and wound up eating a superkick. Fenix got a blind tag and came off the top with a high crossbody block that sent him flying out of the ring. On the floor, Harwood threw Fenix into the ring apron, and FTR took control.
Wheeler hit the assisted legdrop on Fenix for a near fall, then worked over Fenix with a chinlock. Harwood absolutely walloped Fenix with a forearm. Harwood went to the top, but Fenix popped up to catch him with a forearm, then took him down with a jumping rana. The show went to a picture-in-picture break.
Back from the break, Fenix got the hot tag to Penta, and hit both members of FTR with sling blades, and hit a lung blower on Harwood. Penta hit Wheeler with Made in Japan for a near fall. Fenix tried to go up top for the spike piledriver, but Tully Blanchard got on the apron to distract him. Fenix knocked Blanchard to the floor.
Harwood hit a slingshot Liger Bomb on Fenix for another great near fall. Wheeler tried to hit Fenix with one of the AAA title belts, but Fenix caught him. He pulled the belt away from Wheeler and inadvertently hit Harwood. Fenix then went to the top for the frog splash, but Harwood still had the belt and used it to nail Fenix. This got a near fall. Fenix came off the top onto Harwood… but right into the Big Rig for another near fall, which Penta broke up by flying in off the top rope.
The Lucha Bros and FTR stood toe to toe in the middle of the ring and exchanged blows. Fenix hit the rolling cutter on Harwood. He went for the same on Wheeler, but Wheeler countered into a Gory Bomb. Penta went for the package piledriver on Wheeler, but he was able to escape momentarily. Penta and Fenix hit Fear Factor on Wheeler, and Fenix flew out of the ring with a tope con hilo onto Harwood to keep him out of the ring. Penta got the pinfall and the champs retained.
Excellent match, and Fenix and Harwood in particular looked great here.
Nyla Rose, The Bunny and Penelope Ford (w/ Vicki Guerrero) defeated Ruby Soho, Anna Jay & Tay Conti (10:19)
Conti and Rose start. No entrances for the heel team because they’re clearly trying to cram a lot into this hour.
Bunny got caught in the face corner and triple teamed. Conti hit a pump kick on Bunny in the corner, then locked in a guillotine. Guerrero tripped Conti against the ropes and Penelope Ford hit Conti with a boot for the heels to take control.
Ford got a near fall after a pump kick, then Rose got the tag and battered Conti in the corner. Conti and Bunny knocked each other out with forearms, and tags were made to Soho and Ford. Soho took it to Ford with a clothesline and a leg sweep. What felt like the hot tag comeback leading to the finish actually lead to a commercial break, just as Rose came in and got the heat on Soho.
Back from break, the whole heat segment on Soho took place during the picture-in-picture segment. Jay just got the hot tag and took it to Rose, and tried to finish her with the sleeper. Bunny came in and broke that up with a superkick to Jay, and Conti took Bunny out with the TayKO. Rose took out Conti with a hanging neckbreaker, and Soho hit No Future on Rose. Ford took out Soho with a hook kick, and Jay suplexed Ford. Guerrero slipped Bunny the brass knuckles, which she used on Jay. Conti took out Bunny, but Rose hit the Beast Bomb on Jay to get the pinfall.
This match absolutely did not need to run through two segments and a commercial break.
– Tony Schiavone interviewed Sting and Darby Allin in the back and before I can even make a joke about Sting getting jumped, FTR and Tully Blanchard jumped Sting and Darby Allin. Wheeler threw Darby Allin into a loading bay door, and Blachard dropped Sting with a low blow.
Babyfaces should not do interviews with Tony Schiavone. And they definitely shouldn’t do them around loading bay doors.
Hook defeated Fuego Del Sol (3:19)
Hook’s entrance music is by Action Bronson.
The crowd was chanting for Hook immediately. Predictably, Hook was fantastic on the mat. Hook took Del Sol down with judo throws and battered him in the corner with body shots. Hook hit an awesome “crotch lift” suplex and then played to the crowd for a huge pop. Fuego mounted a brief comeback and went for a tornado DDT, but Hook blocked it and tossed him to the mat like a sack of garbage. Hook followed that up with an awesome lariat and a overhead suplex. Hook locked in the katahajime (rebranded the “Redrum” according to Taz) for the submission.
Hook looked great, and the crowd was into him.
– Main Event promo time! The Superkilq and The Best Friends traded barbs while Mark Henry moderated the exchange. It was almost pretty civil (although there seemed to be a bit of dissension between Trent and the other friends) until Wheeler Yuta stole Adam Cole’s “Bay-bay!”
Adam Cole (w/ The Young Bucks, Brandon Cutler & Bobby Fish) defeated Wheeler Yuta (w/ The Best Friends) (7:30)
Yuta blocked a La Magistral’s cradle into a pin attempt of his own. Yuta than walked into a superkick and Cole took control. After a suplex, Cole mocked Orange Cassidy’s high impact offense. Yuta came back and surprised Cole with some quick pin attempts, but Cole rocked him with a pump kick. Cole hit the neckbreaker out of a fireman’s carry, and this is feeling more like a Dark squash than a Rampage main event. Cole dumped Yuta out on the floor, in front of the Best Friends, and stared down Orange Cassidy.
Back in the ring, Cole went for the Panama Sunrise, but Yuta countered it into a pinfall attempt. Yuta got another near fall after a top rope crossbody. Yuta hit a top rope forearm for another near fall. Yuta went for a German suplex, but Cole blocked it and hit an enziguri. Yuta came back and caught Cole with a German suplex for a near fall. Yuta caught Cole with a modified Olympic Slam for another near fall. Yuta went for a top rope splash, but Cole got his knees up, hit Yuta with a superkick and Lowered the Boom to get the pinfall.
After the match, there was a bit of a standoff between the Best Friends and the Superkliq. Fish pulled Trent Baretta out of the ring and threw him into the steps. Cole hit Cassidy with a low blow, and the Bucks and Cole hit Trent with the BTE trigger to end the show.
Final Thoughts:
The tag team title match and the Hook debut were both great.
This week’s AEW Rampage from Newark, New Jersey, will see both the Tag Team and TNT titles on the line.
The Lucha Brothers will defend their titles for the first time since winning them at All Out when they face former stablemates The Butcher & The Blade. The latter are undefeated in tag team competition this year and are 2-0 since Butcher returned from injury earlier this month.
Miro will defend the TNT title against Fuego Del Sol once again with Del Sol putting his new car on the line. Miro defeated him on the very first Rampage as Del Sol was looking for an AEW contract with a win. Del Sol was given the contract later anyway.
Rivals Anna Jay and The Bunny will face off in singles action. Jay recently returned from injury and has been at Tay Conti’s side as she has been having issues with Bunny and new friend Penelope Ford.

Excalibur, Chris Jericho, Taz and Ricky Starks are your hosts.
Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated The Butcher & The Blade (w/ Matt Hardy & Jack Evans) to retain (9:38)
Excalibur let us know that the Butcher and the Black are undefeated in tag matches this year, which is why they are the number one contenders.
Blade and Fenix started out for their teams, and Blade quickly took a powder and got the Butcher in there. It didn’t take too long for all four guys to get involved, with the Lucha Bros hitting double kicks on both guys and getting a near fall on Butcher with a double team splash. Fenix tried a charging attack on Butcher, but he caught him in a fireman’s carry and dropped him headfirst on the Blade’s knee.
Fenix got the tag to Penta, who hit sling blades on both his opponents. The Butcher and Blade dropped to the floor, and Penta and Fenix hit stereo dives on their opponents, Fenix from the top rope and Penta with a tope con hilo over the top rope. Back in the ring, Blade caught Penta with his high impact cross body and the show cut to a picture in picture break.
Back from the break, Penta caught Butcher with an enziguri and then monkey-flipped Blade into Butcher. Penta got the tag to Fenix, who caught Butcher and Blade with german suplex and getting a near fall on Blade. Penta and Fenix hit the double stomp package piledriver on Blade for a near fall broken up by Butcher. Butcher got a cover on Penta off a back suplex. Blade tried to follow up, but ended up on the wrong end of Penta’s leg kicks. Blade came back with a spinning powerslam for a two count.
Fenix got the tag, but his offense was cut off by the Butcher. Meanwhile, Blade tied Penta by his mask to the middle rope, and Penta was stuck in the corner. This allowed Butcher and Blade to double team Fenix. Butcher and Blade went for their neckbreaker/powerbomb finisher, but Penta freed himself by taking off his mask! Penta superkicked Butcher and Blade (while covering his face), and Fenix rolled up Blade with a rana for the pin. Great finish!
After the match, members of the Hardy Family Office ran in to attack the Lucha Brothers, but Santana and Ortiz ran in to make the save, chasing away the heels.
— A short video package with comments from Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson aired. Omega called Danielson the underdog and pointed out that he was unranked, and doesn’t think Bryan’s underdog story will have a happy ending this time. Bryan Danielson is ready to show everyone the “real” Bryan Danielson, which will be fun for fans and “scary as hell” for the wrestlers. Just a quick minute package to hype Wednesday’s main event.
Anna Jay (w/ Tay Conti) defeated The Bunny (w/ Penelope Ford, Matt Hardy and Jack Evans) (4:08 aired)
This match started on the floor, and Jay suplexed Bunny on the floor.
Back in the ring, Jay dominated the match and Bunny dropped to the floor to consult with Hardy. Jay followed and caught Bunny with a superkick, Bunny got the advantage by sending Jay shoulder-first into the ringpost. Bunny whipped Jay into the barricade and the show went to another break.
Back in the ring, Bunny is working over Jay’s arm and shoulder. Jay hit a neckbreaker on Bunny for a near fall. But Jay’s still selling her injured arm. Jay went for the queenslayer sleeper, but Bunny countered. Penelope Ford tried to interfere, and Tay Conti attacked her. This distracted Bunny, and Jay rolled her up for the pin.
After the match, Penelope Ford and Bunny attacked Anna Jay and Tay Conti with brass knuckles, knocking them out.
— Clips of Powerhouse Hobbs attacking CM Punk on Wednesday aired. Hobbs and Team Tazz made comments after the attack, and Hobbs thinks Punk should stay retired for seven more years.
— Tony Schivone interviewed Matt Hardy, who is 0-2 on the night so far. There was an Orange Cassidy look alike at ringside. Jack Evans and Hardy attacked the fan and drug him into the ring. Hardy gave him the Twist of Fate, and Evans began to shave the lookalike’s head. The attack brought out Orange Cassidy, who chased off Hardy and Evans.
Ruby Soho & Britt Baker face-to-face
Tony Schionve brought Soho and Baker to the ring for a face to face confrontation. “Welcome to some TV time, Ruby.” Baker predictably ran down Soho and made fun of her name change and tattoos. No one knows who Ruby is, but everyone knows, “Dr Britt Baker, D.M.D.” At that point I lost my signal for a minute, but when I get back to it Soho said Baker looks like every other girls she’s ever faced that is, “banging some dude in the back.” And that got a pop from the crowd.
Baker’s retort? Ruby didn’t run away from anything; she got fired. That’s the best thing ever happened to Soho, but Baker can’t see that because Britt’s head is so far up Tony’ Khan’s… well you know. Soho promises to take Baker belt’s next Wednesday. Baker took a swing at Soho with the belt, but Soho ducked and took Baker down. Soho stood tall with Baker’s championship belt.
This was an excellent promo segment.
Mark Henry face-to-face promo between Miro and Fuego Del Sol that was not nearly as good as the Soho/Baker segment.
Made official was Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston v. Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer for Friday in a Lights Out match. Lucha Brothers, Santana & Ortiz v. Private Party, the Butcher and The Blade and a match between Penelope Ford and Anna Jay was made official for Friday.
TNT Champion Miro defeated Fuego Del Sol to retain and win Del Sol’s car (8:58)
Del Sol evaded Miro early on and this clearly frustrated Miro. Miro dropped to the floor, and when Del Sol went for the pescado, Miro caught him. Del Sol slid away from Miro and sent him into the ringpost, then caught him with a rana on the floor. Miro tried to throw Del Sol into the crowd, but the crowd actually caught him and Del Sol came off the barricade with a crossbody. Miro got the advantage as the show went to a picture-in-picture break.
Miro dominated during the picture-in-picture segment. Back from the break, Miro had Del Sol in a bearhug. Del Sol eventually broke away with headbutts. Del Sol eventually caught Miro on the mat with an enziguri. Del Sol went for a blind springboard, but Miro caught him on the rebound with a Polish Hammer. Miro went for a DDT, but Del Sol slipped out and hit Miro with a double stomp and a curb stomp. Del Sol with a short DDT, but Miro blocked a spinning DDT and hit a superkick. Miro clobbered Del Sol with forearms in the corner. A pair of superkicks got Miro the pin. And a sensibly priced mid-size used car.
After the match, Miro got the keys to the car from the referee (which were on a lanyard because Del Sol is kind of a geek). Miro stuffed the keys in Del Sol’s mouth and put Del Sol in the Game Over camel clutch. Sammy Guevara ran in to save Del Sol and chase Miro… who left the TNT Championship belt behind. Guevara held up the belt, signaling he wants a shot at Miro and the TNT title.
Final Thoughts:
Dynamite and Rampage are going to be awesome. The Baker/Soho promo is the highlight of the show, and I’m ready to pay $50 for the show I’m going to get to watch for free. Somehow this show felt like it was packed with two hours of stuff.
Laredo Kid is returning to AEW this Wednesday on Dynamite in a trios match.
Tony Khan tweeted this evening that with PAC still recovering from an ankle injury, a trios tag match will take place, with The Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler teaming up to take on The Lucha Brothers (Penta El 0 M & Rey Fenix) and Laredo Kid.
“Nearly 2 years after his @AEW debut in a classic match at #FyterFest 2019, @Laredokidpro1 will return for his #AEWDynamite debut this Wednesday LIVE on TNT, reuniting with the Lucha Brothers @ReyFenixMx & @PENTAELZEROM to battle World Tag Team Champions @youngbucks & @BranCutler!” he wrote. “With@BASTARDPAC recovering from injuring his ankle at Revolution, he’s not yet cleared for the tag title shot with @ReyFenixMx v. @youngbucks, so Death Triangle are bringing back the Lucha Brothers’ original @AEW Trios partner Laredo Kid to get the edge ahead of the title match!”
Laredo Kid made his only appearance for the company so far at Fyter Fest 2019, where he teamed with The Lucha Brothers in a losing effort against Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks in a trios match.
Also announced for Dynamite this Wednesday is a TNT title match, with Darby Allin defending against The Dark Order’s John Silver. Nyla Rose will take on Tay Conti, and FTR & Shawn Spears will face Varsity Blonds and Top Flight’s Dante Martin.
Additionally, Kenny Omega will face Matt Sydal in a non-title match. If Sydal wins, he will receive a future AEW World title match
This week’s opening video had a special emphasis on Sami Callihan and Rich Swann’s efforts to not have each other’s partners fight. The video also featured the top feuds going into Sunday’s Homecoming pay-per-view.
Josh Mathews did a voiceover bidding farewell to Pop TV and announcing their move to the Pursuit Channel starting at 10 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, January 11.
Rich Swann, Willie Mack, Dezmond Xavier, Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz defeated Sami Callihan, Dave Crist, Jake Crist, Matt Sydal & Ethan Page
Miguel and Jake Crist started the match with a series of counters and reversals. There were quick tags to Xavier and Callihan, and once again, after one move, Wentz got tagged in. Swann tagged in with a double axe handle. Mack came in and within a minute, all members of the babyface team had been legal.
Everyone got in the ring and faced off. They started brawling around the ring, leaving Miguel and Callihan inside, with the latter dropping Miguel with a huge lariat and then another one on the apron. Miguel countered and hit a rana to the outside, starting a sequence where everyone did dives to the outside one by one, ending with Xavier’s Space Flying Tiger Drop.
Miguel went to the top rope, but Jake Crist caught him and hit a cutter from the top to the floor on top of everyone. We got “This is awesome” chants.
Back from commercial, Callihan worked over Miguel in the ring. Dave Crist tagged in and worked over Miguel’s legs for a bit. Sydal came in and choked Miguel until he reached the ropes. Finally, Page came in, but Miguel managed to make a small comeback and make it to his corner.
Swann came in with the hot tag and took out everyone, including a double cutter on Callihan and Dave Crist and a Phoenix Splash on Page for a two count. Mack tagged in and was going for a piledriver, but Callihan came in and hit a big kick — followed by everyone taking turns to hit their finishers. Page finally got a two count on Mack.
Mack took out Page to the floor, only for Dave Crist to get a blind tag, but Mack caught him with a top rope stunner for the pin.
After the match, Callihan attacked Mack with his bat. oVe set up a table in the ring and hit the All Seeing Eye on Mack through the table. Swann dragged himself to protect Mack’s body, but oVe walked away, letting Swann live another day.
We got a video package recounting the complete Eddie Edwards and Moose saga.
Eli Drake came to the ring to address his Monster’s Ball match with Abyss at Homecoming. Drake brought up that he is being forced into the Monster’s Ball match by Impact’s management, but he has already taken out Joseph Park — so Abyss is not coming back.
Drake threatened that if Abyss makes it to Homecoming, he’ll be forced to become what he hates and take out Abyss, because he is “hardcore.”
Tommy Dreamer came down with a chair. He hit a DDT on Drake, but as he went for a Pillmanizer, the lights went out and Raven appeared. Raven and Dreamer went face-to-face, but instead of fighting, they teamed up against Drake as they ran him out. ECW will never die.
Back from commercial, Gama Singh introduced the Desi Hit Squad and dedicated this match to Scarlett Bordeaux. She came out to watch the match from the ramp.
Fallah Bahh & KM defeated The Desi Hit Squad (Rohit Raju & Raj Singh)
The match started with the Desi Hit Squad jumping Bahh and KM, tossing the latter outside and going for Bahh inside the ring. Thanks to some dirty tactics, Raju and Singh got some offense and double team moves every time that Bahh showed signs of a comeback.
Singh went for a scoop slam, but the weight of Bahh was too much and his knees buckled, allowing Bahh to escape and tag in KM.
KM came in strong until getting taken out after Singh raked his eyes. Bahh recovered and hit a flying crossbody on both Desi Hit Squad members, followed by a Banzai Drop on Singh for the pin. Bordeaux seemed impressed before leaving to the back.
Pentagon Jr. and Fenix cut a promo on LAX saying that both teams are similar, but history shows that when Konnan is not with Santana and Ortiz, they tend to lose. Pentagon said that last time, Santana pushed him and thus all respect is out the window. Fenix said that come January 6, they’re winning the Tag Team titles. Well, this escalated out of nowhere.
Dark Allie (w/ Su Yung) defeated Kiera Hogan
Hogan started the match all fired up going after Allie with a series of kicks and a bulldog for a one count. Hogan hit a tope suicida on Yung when Allie dodged the attack, but the distraction allowed Allie to blindside Hogan and get control of the match. Allie’s offense was mostly stomps and clotheslines.
Hogan made a comeback, but she couldn’t finish up Allie, who actually landed a codebreaker out of nowhere for the pin. This was a sloppy match.
After the match, Allie and Yung attacked Hogan in the corner until Jordynne Grace came out for the save. Grace hit a Samoan slam on Allie, a sit-down powerbomb on Yung, and finished them off with some running knees. This story just took a weird direction — Jordynne Grace is not someone that should be fighting for souls right now.
We got a video from “earlier today” with Trevor Lee going to Impact management asking for a match.
LAX cut a promo from outside the venue. Ortiz said all they wanted was to be pro wrestlers and brought up that Santana and he have always had each other’s back. They talked about losing when Konnan wasn’t there, but they need to prove it to everyone and themselves that they can get the job done with or without Konnan. Great babyface promos by both.
Killer Kross defeated Trevor Lee
This started with both men locking up, with Kross overpowering Lee to get control and Lee reversing out of Kross’ locks. Kross eventually was too much for Lee and started tossing him around in the corner. He hit the Doomsday Saito and locked in the Kross Jacket to choke out Lee. A squash match that reminds us of Kross’ dominance.
Kross then wished Johnny Impact luck against Brian Cage at Homecoming. Kross ordered the timekeeper to hold a cinder block to Lee’s head as Kross punched the block into pieces. The timekeeper ran off and Lee was written off Impact Wrestling.
The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) defeated Impact World Champion Johnny Impact & Brian Cage
Cage and Fenix started the match — a speed and power matchup with Cage catching Fenix’s every move by using his strength alone. Pentagon came in and Cage also manhandled him until Impact blind tagged himself into the match.
Impact did a good job at first, working on Pentagon and dodging his attacks, but out of nowhere, Pentagon hit a slingblade and a backstabber and turned things around. After some offense by Pentagon, Cage was now the one with a blind tag, but the Lucha Brothers cut Cage off before he could take control.
Cage and Pentagon fought outside the ring as Fenix went for a suicide dive, but Impact cut him off with a kick and hit an Asai moonsault on Pentagon. Fenix recovered and hit a tornillo to take everyone out.
Back from commercial, Impact and Cage continued blind tagging each other as they worked over Fenix. Impact hit a huge Spanish Fly from the top rope for a near fall that Pentagon broke up. Pentagon hit the Pentagon Driver on Impact, but Cage saved him from the pin.
Everyone got in the ring and traded kicks, with Cage hitting Impact with a discus clothesline by mistake, leaving Impact open for Pentagon and Fenix to hit the foot stomp/Fear Factor combination for the win. Fenix got a clean pin over the champion. This match did a good job displaying Pentagon and Fenix’s synchronicity and the tension between Impact and Cage.
After the match, Cage and Impact blamed each other for losing. They pushed each other’s buttons until they came to blows, with them having a big pull-apart with security and the locker room coming out.
The show closed with Homecoming’s cold opening video. A lot of nostalgia footage from the Asylum years.
Overall, this was a good go-home show that touched on all previously announced matches and finished building up Homecoming card.
