All star eight-man tag match advertised for AEW Collision Fyter Fest

An all-star eight man tag team match has been announced for next week’s Fyter Fest edition of Collision.

Details are scarce for next week’s show, which will be taped in Duluth, Georgia on Wednesday alongside a live edition of Dynamite due to the All In event at Wembley Stadium taking place that Sunday. The company on Saturday advertised an “all star eight-man tag” without announcing the stars of the match. Additionally, it was advertised that we’d be hearing from AEW stars in London just one day prior to All In.

More matches will be announced on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.

On Saturday’s Collision, the main event featured Darby Allin defeating Christian Cage ahead of Allin’s match against Luchasaurus at All Out next month. Allin won the match with a roll-up, but was attacked by Cage and Luchasaurus after the match. Allin won the Royal Rampage match last month to earn a TNT Championship match at All Out.

Here is the lineup so far for next week’s Collision:

  • All-Star eight man tag team match
  • We’ll hear from AEW stars in London ahead of All In

Show Report —

Before the match, Chuck and Trent had an inset promo where they revealed they finally got manager’s licenses.

TNT Championship: Wardlow (c) defeated Orange Cassidy (w/ Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta)

Right at the bell, Orange did his hands-in-pockets schtick, so Wardlow straight-up tore the pockets out of his jeans. Wardlow fired up and pulled the straps down, so Orange mocked him by pulling them back up. The Best Friends tried to cheat with some wacky shenanigans, including producing a chainsaw, but they weren’t good at it and subsequently got ejected.

Wardlow intercepted an Orange Punch and caught a tope suicida, but he couldn’t corral Orange enough to land a big move. Wardlow somehow sense Danhausen under the ring and pulled him out. Danhausen teased a curse but thought the better of it, but the distraction was enough for Orange to hit an Orange Punch.

Back in the ring, Wardlow recovered to take out Orange with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. After a commercial, Orange started a comeback by chop-blocking Wardlow’s knee. He wanted the Beach Break, but Wardlow was too strong. Orange reversed a powerbomb into a DDT and hit a spinning one to follow it up, but it only sent Wardlow down for a one count.

Wardlow avoided the Orange Punch and hit the F10, but Orange was the first person in AEW history to kick out of it. Wardlow then called for the Powerbomb Symphony; Orange eventually fought out of it with a hurricanrana and landed a tope suicida. He sent Wardlow into the ring post and brought him back into the ring.

The diving DDT from Orange was caught by Wardlow, but Orange recovered to hit the stunner, the Orange Punch, and the Beach Break for a good near fall. Wardlow caught another Orange Punch attempt and hit one powerbomb for the win.

PAC’s defense of his All Atlantic Championship, taking on Shota Umino in RevPro, was recapped.

Chris Jericho promo

He came out alone. He said he stands in front of the crowd tonight as a living legend — and as Eddie Kingston’s superior. Jericho brought up Kingston’s friendships, and how associating with Kingston always seems to end in disaster, especially with Ruby Soho last week.

As for the Barbed Wire match, well, Kingston may be a mark for Onita and Sabu and Funk, but Jericho was the one who won the first ever Canadian Barbed Wire match at 22 years old. Jericho thinks people underestimate him because of his massive accomplishments and his movie star good looks. “Next week, you won’t be able to underestimate Chris Jericho, because you’ll be facing the Painmaker.”

Jericho said that this would be the final fight in the Jericho-Kingston saga, and when it’s over, Kingston will crawl back into his hole of addiction and depression. He will never be at Jericho’s level ever. The only thing that will wash away Jericho’s sins is a massive wave of blood. “You’re not a liar, you’re a loser.”

**********

After a commercial break, Kingston was backstage with Ortiz and Ruby Soho. He pointed out how he’d hurt them, and said he wanted the most violent version of Jericho out there next week.

William Regal joined commentary.

Interim AEW World Championship Eliminator: Jon Moxley defeated Konosuke Takeshita

Yet another awesome set of performances from perhaps AEW’s two most consistently great TV talents in 2022.

They went back-and-forth with shoulder tackles and chops early on. Moxley got the upper hand for the first time with a big lariat and followed it up with a straight piledriver for two. Eventually they made their way to the apron, where Takeshita took Moxley out with an apron German suplex. On the way back to the ring, however, Moxley leveled Takeshita with a boot and maintained control through a break, where Takeshita was busted open.

Back from commercial, Takeshita started a comeback with his signature leaping clothesline. A straight drop brainbuster from Takeshita got two. Moxley got the knees up on a frog splash and cradled Takeshita for two before applying a rear naked choke. He transitioned into a cross armbreaker, forcing Takeshita to roll to the ropes and force a break.

Takeshita sent Moxley to the floor with a hurricanrana and followed it up with a great tope con giro. Back inside, the frog splash followed for a near fall. Moxley went for a sleeper, but Takeshita turned it into Blue Thunder Bomb, and they collapsed into a double pin for a near fall.

Moxley blocked the jumping knee and spiked Takeshita with the Paradigm Shift. He wanted the Death Rider, but Takeshita flipped out of it and hit a German suplex bridge for a great near fall. Moxley fought out of a straitjacket German and hit the Death Rider. The hammer-and-anvil elbows followed by the Bulldog Choke gave Moxley the win.

**********

A House of Black video promo aired. Brody King said he’d watched Darby Allin ascend for years, but now “I’m getting mine by taking yours.” He attacked Darby at a signing this past weekend.

**********

Christian Cage promo

The Varsity Blonds were already in the ring, with Griff Garrison dressed to wrestle (ostensibly against Luchasaurus). Christian said that just like Jungle Boy, Brian Pillman Jr. had a father who was a legend, but in Christian’s opinion, he was average at best. He think’s Pillman Sr. would be appalled knowing his lasting contribution was Pillman Jr.

Christian said there was something about Griff that annoyed him, but then he realized it was because he looked like Jungle Boy.

Luchasaurus (w/ Christian Cage) defeated Griff Garrison (w/ Brian Pillman Jr.)

Luchasaurus manhandled Griff and crushed him with a German. He beat on him against the ring post on the outside, then the chokeslam followed. Christian told him to hit one more, and Luchasaurus obliged before locking on the Tar Pit — the modified Snare Trap — for the squash win.

– After the match, Luchasaurus continued the attack on Griff. Pillman tried to save his partner, but Luchasaurus headbutted him before chokeslamming him onto Griff on the announce table. It didn’t break the first time, so Luchasaurus did it again, where it did break.

**********

Daniel Garcia and 2point0 of the Jericho Appreciation Society were backstage and asked about the shark cage next week. They didn’t get what it was all about. Garcia said he understood why he’s in the cage — he’s dangerous. He’s also tired of YUTA doing a cheap Garcia imitation, and he’ll take the ROH Pure title at Death Before Dishonor.

**********

Hangman Page was backstage and asked about being eliminated in the battle royale a couple weeks ago. John Silver and Alex Reyonlds came up and said they were mad, and they challenged House of Black for Rampage.

**********

William Regal joined commentary.

Claudio Castagnoli defeated Jake Hager

Claudio hit the running uppercut right at the bell and teased a giant swing, but Hager escaped to the floor, where he took out Claudio with a clothesline. Back inside, Claudio countered the Hager bomb and hit a tiger feint kick for two. He laid in strikes in the corner, then Hager turned the tables and did the same. They continued to trade offense until Claudio climbed the ropes and Hager cut him off.

The Hager Bomb got two leading into a commercial. Upon return, Claudio landed a springboard uppercut to commence a comeback. He laid in multiple running uppercuts before a dropkick sent Hager to the floor, where he hit yet another running uppercut. A diving crossbody from Claudio got two.

Claudio gave Hager the giant swing, then he locked on a Sharpshooter. He had Hager beaten, but Hager signaled for 2point0 to run down and distract the official. The distraction was enough to allow Hager to hit a big uranage for a near fall.

Hager went for the Ankle Lock, but Claudio countered it and hit a big back suplex. He went for another Sharpshooter, but 2point0 hopped on the apron, so Claudio took them out. Claudio then hit the pop-up uppercut and the Ricola Bomb for the win.

**********

HOOK was backstage and asked if he was going to go for a championship considering he’s undefeated. He just walked away.

**********

A video package recapped Miyu Yamashita’s victory over Thunder Rosa in Japan.

Rosa and Toni Storm were backstage. She said Yamashita earned a title match, but in the meantime, ThunderStorm is ready to take on anyone. Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter walked up. Britt said AEW was a disaster without her. Rebel came out with a sandbag, referencing “sandbagging” rumors regarding Rosa.

(In kayfabe, what would “sandbagging” mean? I don’t get why they do stuff like that.)

**********

Serena Deeb defeated Anna Jay

Jay hit some offense early on until Deeb was able to lock her into almost like a stump puller. Jay went for the Queenslayer early on, but Deeb broke out of it by dropping Jay over the rope. Deeb followed it up with a neckbreaker for two.

After a break, Jay came back with running takeovers and a suplex for two. She wanted the Queenslayer, but Deeb caught Jay in a European Clutch for a near fall. Deeb spun Jay around and went for the Deeb-tox, but Jay fought out of it. Deeb locked on a wacky submission, almost like an inverted leg nelson, forcing Jay to escape.

Jay hit a low heel kick, but Deeb cut her off with a dragon screw. Jay surprised Deeb with the Queenslayer for a nice little dramatic moment, but Deeb was able to stand up out of it and apply the Serenity Lock for the win.

– After the match, Deeb wouldn’t let go of the hold, so Mercedes Martinez ran out and tore her off. They will face off at Death Before Dishonor for the ROH Women’s Championship.

**********

Jade Cargill, Stokely Hathaway, and the Baddies were backstage. Jade said they weren’t afraid of Athena or Kris Statlander, then mocked Leila Grey for being an “interim Baddie.” Stokely cooled them off, then said they’d be watching Statlander and Athena on Rampage. Kiera said Leila would never be a Baddie.

Jay Lethal and co. came out to the commentary desk and he said he’d embarrass Joe at Death Before Dishonor.

**********

Anna Jay was being checked on backstage. Tay Conti showed up and acted all sad, but Jay pointed out she slammed Soho’s hand in a car door last week. Conti said Jay needed to make better choices for her career.

AEW World Tag Team Championships: Swerve in our Glory (Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee) defeated The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) (c) and Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs to win the championships

Incredible PWG-style spotfest main event. The near falls at the end were so great.

The rules were two in, one out as usual for AEW three-way tags. The Young Bucks and Swerve in our Glory wrestled to a stalemate, with Swerve and Nick performing a nice acrobatic exchange. Nick and Starks ended up meeting each other on a rope walk, slapping each other, and crotching each other over the top rope.

Matt hit his repeated Northern Lights suplexes, but he failed when he tried on Lee and Hobbs. The two behemoths flattened him. Starks and Hobbs got control and worked together to beat down Swerve. Swerve took a beating through the commercial break, but eventually fought off the Bucks to tag in Lee.

Lee ran over everyone with tackles. He bieled Starks into the Bucks, then went for a dive, but Hobbs and Starks tripped him up. Nick went for a tope con giro, but Lee caught him and powerbombed him into his brother. Hobbs tagged in and faced off with Lee. They laid into each other with tackles before simultaneous running crossbodies took each other out.

Hobbs hit a lengthy frog splash on Lee for a near fall. He and Starks worked together to hit a doomsday cutter for another near fall. The Bucks dispatched Starks and Hobbs and started a superkick party on Swerve and Lee, but Lee fired up until a third superkick from Starks took him out. More superkicks allowed the Bucks to keep control, then Hobbs fell into the official for a ref bump.

The Bucks brought the belts into the ring, but Starks stopped them. Swerve grabbed the title belt and teased attacking Lee, but then he ran right into a low blow from Matt. Matt cracked everyone with the belt and covered Swerve for a good near fall. The BTE Trigger followed, but Starks broke up the pin at the last second.

Lee intercepted the Meltzer Driver, and he and Swerve hit the doomsday Swerve Stomp for an awesome near fall as Hobbs and Starks broke it up at the very last second. We got a parade of big moves with Hobbs hitting spinebusters on everyone. Starks rolled Swerve up for two, then crushed him with a spear for another close near fall.

Brandon Cutler distracted the official but inadvertently allowed Lee to hit the Bucks with Matt’s shoe. Swerve hit a quebrada off Lee’s chest, which was absurd, then Lee Pounced Starks like crazy before landing a preposterous flip dive onto everyone. Swerve then hit the Swerve Stomp on Starks to win the match and the championships.

Show Report —

MJF joined commentary for this match.

Chris Jericho defeated Shawn Spears (w/ Tully Blanchard)

The rule was that Spears, whose nickname is the “Chairman,” can use a chair, but Jericho can’t. This was the first “labor of Jericho.”

Jericho knocked the chair out of Spears’ hands and took him down with a running forearm. Spears got some offense in, but Jericho tossed him over the top and then sent him to the floor, where Jericho whipped him into the barricade. Jericho grabbed the camera from the ringside cameraman and celebrated.

Spears grabbed a chair from under the ring and cut off a Jericho springboard. He targeted Jericho’s injured left arm. Jericho came back with an enziguiri and went to the top rope, but Spears popped up and took Jericho down to the mat. Spears continued to attack Jericho’s arm.

Jericho avoided a corner splash and took down Spears with a shoulder tackle. He landed a double sledge off the top rope. Jericho propped Spears up in the corner and landed ten punches before hitting a top-rope Frankensteiner. He ran into a Spears thrust kick for two.

Spears countered running offense into a spinebuster for two. He went outside for another chair and smacked it over Jericho’s back. He set up to smash it over Jericho’s head, but Jericho took him down and locked on the Walls of Jericho. Spears fought to reach the ropes, but Jericho brought it back into the center of the ring.

Tully distracted the official as Spears frantically tapped. Sammy Guevara ran out and sent Tully packing, but Spears grabbed a chair and whacked Jericho with it. He then hit the C4, but Jericho kicked out — the first time the C4 was kicked out of in AEW. Spears set up to hit a chair-assisted C4, but Jericho escaped and hit the Judas Effect for the win.

– MJF immediately grabbed a mic and said that Jericho’s not allowed to have anyone come out and help him anymore.

Next week, Jericho will have a No Disqualification match against indie stalwart Nick Gage for Labor #2. Gage showed up and got a major reaction.

**********

A brief Miro video played. The most notable part is that he was wearing a Bloodsport jacket.

**********

Doc Gallows (w/ Karl Anderson) defeated Frankie Kazarian

Kazarian went right at Gallows in the corner and followed it up with a missile dropkick. Gallows came back with a big boot as he established the advantage in the match. He whipped Kazarian to the floor, where the latter fell victim to a cheap shot from Anderson leading into the commercial break.

Once back, Kazarian avoided some shots and took Gallows down with a clothesline and a back suplex. A springboard leg drop followed for two. Anderson got involved again but was taken out with a leg bulldog. The distraction was enough for Gallows to hit a right hand and a sit-out tree slam for the win.

– After the match, Anderson attacked and the Good Brothers hit Kazarian with the Magic Killer.

Omega’s music played, and he walked out with Don Callis. He said that attacking Kazarian was a message: “This is what happens when you mess with The Elite.” Omega said that Kazarian had been a thorn in their side for months. “The Elite Hunter has become, uh, the Elite Hunted.”

Hangman Page’s music played and he came out with a beer in hand. Callis pointed out that the Elite have the four-on-one numbers advantage and asked if Page was stupid or drunk. Page struck but was immediately taken out by the Good Brothers. The Dark Order ran out to even the odds. Page hit a Buckshot Lariat on Anderson.

**********

A Team Taz video played where Taz said he was proud of Ricky Starks for winning the FTW Championship. Starks said that they’d have a championship celebration the following week.

Brian Cage was interviewed about it. He said the celebration works out, because he loves celebrations.

**********

Darby Allin (w/ Sting) defeated Wheeler YUTA (w/ Orange Cassidy)

Allin had heavily taped ribs after last week’s Coffin Match with Ethan Page. They performed some chain wrestling to start. NJPW’s Hikuleo, the son of Haku, was shown in the crowd.

YUTA targeted Allin’s midsection, striking it with a thrust kick and dropping him over the ropes. Allin came back briefly, but YUTA pulled him off the ropes and locked on an octopus hold. After Allin escaped, YUTA hit a German suplex bridge for two.

Allin pulled YUTA off the ropes and hit a superplex. Sting and Orange faced off outside the ring and did some Orange schtick. YUTA tried to take advantage with a cradle, but Allin hit a stunner and the Coffin Drop for the quick win.

– The Blade attacked Orange after the match with brass knuckles. They’re supposed to wrestle one on one later tonight.

**********

A video package aired recapping Jon Moxley and Lance Archer’s previous matches. Archer said he’d knock Moxley’s ass out. Moxley said “one way or another, it’s over.”

**********

A video recapped the Baker vs. Rose feud.

AEW Women’s Championship: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. (c) (w/ Rebel) defeated Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero)

This was Baker’s first defense of her championship. The crowd adores her but the action and layout here were not good.

She took Rose to the mat early on with a targeted attack on Rose’s left arm. Rose powered out but was rolled up for two. She caught a running attack from Baker and hit a press slam followed by a running senton. Rose perched Baker over the top rope, but Rebel pulled her off as Baker flatlined Rose into the turnbuckle.

Baker dominated throughout the break, meaning Rose essentially worked babyface in this match. Once back, Rose overpowered Baker and hit a backbreaker fallaway slam combination. Baker avoided a corner cannonball and hit a sling blade. She backslid Rose for a near fall, but Rose’s shoulder was up. The crowd thought it was three.

Rebel handed Baker the glove. Rose went for a chokeslam, but Baker rolled out of it for a two-count cradle. Baker tried for the Lockjaw, but Rose powered out and hit a Death Valley driver. She followed it up with her diving draping leg drop for a good near fall. Baker came back with two thrust kicks for two. Rose came back with a chokeslam for two.

Baker kind of hit a crucifix bomb for two. She then sloppily rolled Rose up for two more, following it up with two curb stomps for yet another near fall. Rose leveled Baker with a forearm strike, leading two a double down. Rebel distracted the official and tossed Baker the belt, who summarily did the Eddie Guerrero feint. Rose tossed the belt back to Baker before hitting the Beast Bomb for a close near fall.

Rose went for another Beast Bomb, but Baker countered out and floated over into the Lockjaw, forcing Rose to submit.

**********

Tony Schiavone moderated a press conference between FTR and Santana & Ortiz. Harwood was insistent that they were the same. Ortiz said that FTR’s just a pit stop on the way to tag team gold. Santana produced photos from his childhood and upbringing, talking about his mother. Harwood said the only thing left to do was show up and beat their ass. They will wrestle next week.

**********

Andrade El Idolo / Death Triangle segment

Andrade El Idolo was brought out by Tony Schiavone. He has a surprise for everyone. Schiavone introduced Andrade’s new “executive consultant,” Chavo Guerrero. Chavo said this is the place to be. With all due respect, he doesn’t see anybody with as much talent as Andrade.

Death Triangle’s music hit as all three came out with Alex Abrahantes. PAC said they heard Andrade bring them up last week. The Death Triangle hides from nobody. Andrade thanked them for coming. Loud “Cero miedo!” chants.

Andrade said some words in Spanish. Chavo translated for PAC. The Death Triangle is all talented, and they should be holding championships. If they want to change that, listen to Andrade.

“One question,” from Andrade. “Why do you work for PAC? Why not work for Andrade El Idolo?” PAC said that Penta and Fénix don’t work for him. The Death Triangle are family. Fénix said they were the real faces of Latinos. Penta said something, and Alex translated: “Penta says, ‘Why would we want to join a group with you when you’re not even on our level?'”

Death Triangle rushed the ring. Andrade told them to relax and the referee core came out to separate them.

**********

Earlier tonight, the Hardy Family Office had a fight with the Jurassic Express, and Christian Cage had their back.

They cut to Christian and Jurassic Express backstage. Christian suggested he team with Jurassic Express against Angélico and Private Party next week.

**********

QT Marshall, with Alex Marvez, said next week he’d apologize for dumping a protein shake over Tony Schiavone’s head.

**********

Orange Cassidy vs. The Blade (w/ The Bunny)

Orange surprised Blade after the attack earlier tonight. Blade fled to the floor and caught Orange upon re-entry to the ring. Orange took Blade down and laid in strikes. Blade acted like he was injured in the corner as Bunny checked on him. Blade surprised Orange and took him down, but Orange countered a suplex into a stunner.

They fought on the top rope, where Blade hit an insane gutwrench powerbomb on the top turnbuckle, leading to a break. Once back, a diving crossbody and satellite DDT from Orange got two. Bunny tried to get involved, but Kris Statlander stopped her. Orange went to hit Blade with a tope, but Blade pulled Statlander in the way. Orange then pushed Blade into Bunny.

Back in the ring, Blade caught a satellite DDT and dropped Orange over the top rope. A running lariat and spinning tombstone piledriver followed for two. Blade went for the Doctor Bomb, but Orange fought out and hit the Beach Break for two. Bunny distracted the official and tossed the brass knuckles to Blade, but Orange avoided a strike and hit the Orange Punch for the win.

– After the match, Orange grabbed the brass knuckles and hit another Orange Punch on Blade.

**********

Chris Jericho was asked about next week’s no disqualification match against Nick Gage. Jericho said he’d bring the most violent and demented version of himself next week: the Painmaker. He turned around and revealed the Painmaker face paint.

**********

Next week’s lineup for AEW Fight for the Fallen:

  • No disqualification: Chris Jericho vs. Nick Gage

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship Texas Deathmatch: Lance Archer defeated Jon Moxley (c)

Awesome hardcore main event with a hometown winner. This was no disqualification Last Man Standing rules.

Moxley went right after Archer before the bell and immediately grabbed a kendo stick. He repeatedly whacked Archer with it, but Archer shrugged off the shots. They traded forearms in the center of the ring before Archer cut Moxley off with a pounce followed by a running cannonball senton to the floor. Moxley sent Archer through a barricade with a running shoulder tackle.

They fought up into the stands and crowd. Moxley leapt off a structure and struck Archer, but Archer shrugged it off and used a planted fan as a weapon on Moxley. Back in the ring, Archer cut off a tope suicida with a forearm before exposing the concrete floor. Moxley fought out of a hold and planted Archer on the floor with a Paradigm Shift.

Archer was busted open. Moxley produced a fork and repeatedly stabbed at Archer’s face. During the break, Moxley set up tables on the outside. Once back, Moxley wrapped a chair around Archer’s leg and landed a diving stomp. Moxley tried to follow it up with a trash can lid shot but Archer punched it into Moxley’s face.

They traded right hands. Moxley bit at Archer’s face, but Archer fired up and went for a ripcord lariat. Moxley hit a release German, but Archer hit a big boot and a ripcord Black Hole slam. Archer set up chairs and went to hit a Blackout through them. Moxley fought out and hit a low blow, but Archer popped up and chokeslammed Moxley through the chairs.

Moxley made it up at an eight count and countered a running attack with a big lariat followed by a Paradigm Shift. Archer popped up at four and flipped off Moxley, but Moxley stabbed at Archer’s head with the fork once again. He produced barbed wire boards and propped them up on the tables outside. Moxley went for the Paradigm Shift through the boards and tables, which is how he originally won the title. Archer fought out using the fork and chokeslammed Moxley through the tables. Moxley couldn’t make it up for the 10 count and Archer won the championship for the second time.

– After the match, Archer and HIkuleo faced off. Hikuleo dwarfed Archer, which was an awesome visual.

Moxley-Archer Texas Death Match added to AEW Fyter Fest night two

Lance Archer has challenged IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley to a Texas death match for night two of AEW Fyter Fest.

Archer issued the challenge on night one of Fyter Fest in a backstage segment. Following Jon Moxley’s successful IWGP US title defense against Karl Anderson in the opener, Jake Roberts and Archer proposed that Moxley put up the US title on next week’s show.

Moxley’s current reign began with a win over Archer, also in a Texas death match, at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14 on January 4, 2020 in the Tokyo Dome.

Archer held the title from 2019 into 2020. Archer won the title after Moxley vacated it due to travel issues in October 2019. Archer beat Juice Robinson in a no DQ match to win the title at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling 2019.

Archer made one successful defense during his reign, beating David Finlay at NJPW Showdown in San Jose, California in November 2019.

Here is the announced card for night two of Fyter Fest to this point:

AEW Dynamite Fyter Fest night two, Wednesday, July 21 —

  • AEW Women’s World Championship: Britt Baker (c) vs. Nyla Rose
  • IWGP United States Championship Texas death match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Lance Archer

AEW Dynamite live results: Fyter Fest night one

Night one of AEW Dynamite Fyter Fest takes place this evening in Cedar Park, Texas.

The IWGP United States Championship will be on the line when Jon Moxley takes on Karl Anderson of The Good Brothers. Moxley has held the IWGP US title since January 4, 2020, when he defeated Lance Archer for the belt at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 14.

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship: Jon Moxley (c) (w/ Eddie Kingston) defeated Karl Anderson (w/ Doc Gallows)

The crowd was out of their minds for Moxley. This was a very good opener with some cool intensity.

Kingston attacked Gallows with a pipe before the match, and Moxley took advantage of the distraction to strike Anderson. With the match under way, both men exchanged a quick strike before Anderson called for a fight. They exchanged forearms in the center of the ring. Anderson looked to get the advantage, but Moxley fired up and clotheslined Anderson out of the ring.

Anderson was sent into the barricade before he blocked a suplex on the ramp and hit one on Moxley. They brawled in the ringside area before Moxley returned the action to the ring. Anderson hit a Gun Stun over the ropes upon re-entry and booted Moxley back to the floor. Back in the ring, Anderson hit his signature spinebuster for two.

They fought on the top rope, where Moxley hit a superplex. A counter exchange saw Moxley hit a German, Anderson hit a big boot, and Moxley come back with a clothesline. They hit simultaneous clotheslines, leading to a double down. They did another New Japan-style counter exchange, with Anderson hitting an Air Raid crash for two.

Anderson landed a diving neckbreaker for another near fall. He fought out of a Paradigm Shift and shrugged off a discus forearm to hit a Gun Stun, but was too beaten down to make a cover. Moxley fired up and hit corner clotheslines, but Anderson caught him with a fireman’s carry turned into a Gun Stun for a good near fall.

Moxley countered a top-rope Gun Stun with a ripcord lariat, then hit the Paradigm Shift to win and retain.

**********

Lance Archer and Jake Roberts were having an argument backstage. Archer changed his focus to Jon Moxley, who just retained his IWGP US Title. He said it was time for his rematch, challenging Moxley to another Texas Deathmatch for next week.

**********

Andrade El Idolo was interviewed by Alex Abrahantes. Andrade has permission to win championships everywhere. Andrade interrupted Abrahantes and asked where the Death Triangle was. He wants Abrahantes to tell them that “El Idolo is looking for them.”

**********

Taz joined commentary for the match.

FTW Championship: Ricky Starks defeated Brian Cage (c) to win the championship

There were multiple loud “Ricky” chants for the Texas native. Cage hit a press slam right away, manhandling Starks from the start. He hit a powerslam for two. Starks avoided a corner attack and targeted Cage’s left arm into a commercial break. Once back, Starks hit a crucifix bomb for two.

Starks rolled to the floor and grabbed the title, but Cage booted him and drove Starks’ shoulder into the ring apron. Starks used evasive maneuvers and hit a clothesline. Back in the ring, Cage fought out of a rear naked choke and hit an inside-out suplex, but Starks got his foot on the rope.

Cage countered a swinging DDT with a thrust kick for two. He went for the outside-in suplex, but Starks countered it and hit a sit-out powerbomb for a good near fall. Starks was about to use the FTW belt, but Powerhouse Hobbs stopped him from doing so. Cage took advantage of the distraction and hit an F5 for a great near fall.

HOOK distracted the referee, Hobbs hit Cage with the belt, and Starks hit the spear to win the FTW championship.

– Taz celebrated with Starks, Hobbs and HOOK.

Cody Rhodes & Malakai Black brawl

Cody Rhodes walked out to commentary as the announcers recapped Malakai Black’s debut. He said Black could have just called, because we don’t kick a 62-year-old man in the face to get our point across. He then grabbed a microphone and walked to the ring.

He doesn’t win every fight, but he has a chance when he knows it’s coming. Cody called out Black. Black showed up on the big screen, pointing out the fans cheered loudly when he attacked Cody and Arn. He told a story about a man killing a horse because it was crippled.

Black said when he looked Cody and Arn in the eyes last week, it just wasn’t there. Cody fired up and demanded Black come down and fight. The lights went out, and Black showed up in the ring face to face with Cody. They brawled all over, with officials and agents coming out to break it. Loud “Let them fight!” chants.

Tully Blanchard was asked about his cheap shot on Konnan last night. He ran into Santana and Ortiz, who threatened to attack him with a blackjack, but ended up just mocking him.

Hangman Page speaks

Hangman Page was introduced by Tony Schiavone. Schiavone said that Omega vs. Page was what the fans wanted to see. Page always wanted to be AEW World Champion, and he came close, but he failed. The Dark Order is right: he still needs that championship. He was about to challenge Omega, but Don Callis interrupted.

Callis and the rest of the Elite (sans Omega) walked out. He said Page was just doing a lot of talking. They said Page isn’t that guy. Matt Jackson entered the ring, asking if Page remembered them, his best friends that he abandoned. Page is a sad, lonely drunk who nas nobody to blame but himself. Matt then said Page was going to be the next wrestling tragedy.

Page struck Matt, leading the Elite to attack. Omega appeared and was about to hit Page with the championship, but the Dark Order ran out and stopped him. Page said he’s not leaving without a match. Omega agreed, but upped the ante: a five-on-five elimination match between the Dark Order and the Elite. Page said that when he wins, he wants a world title shot, and he wants the Dark Order to get a tag title shot.

Super loud “cowboy shit” chant. Omega entered the ring alone and said he’d entertain Page’s idea, but if Page and the Dark Order lose, he can’t challenge Omega. Omega asked if Page was afraid to fail in front of his fans. He’s going to take an extra measure of pleasure when “cowboy shit” turns into “belt collector.” If Page is cool with that, so is he. Page said the Dark Order doesn’t back down from a fight: “You are on!”

**********

Chris Jericho was interviewed about MJF’s stipulations to earn another match. Jericho said that if MJF read all the Greek mythology, he’d know that when Hercules succeeded, he got everything he wanted. Jericho will walk through fire or run across broken glass to get to MJF. Jericho’s the god of thunder and war in AEW.

Shawn Spears attacked Jericho with a chair and MJF said Spears was Jericho’s first labor. The stipulation is that Spears can use a chair and Jericho can’t. Spears hit Jericho with the chair again as MJF walked off.

**********

Christian Cage defeated Matt Hardy

The story here was that Christian had never beaten Hardy one-on-one and is undefeated.

No Hardy Family Offices out there with Hardy. They locked up forever, like a full minute, falling all the way to the floor. Christian attacked upon re-entry to the ring and sent Hardy into the barricade before hitting a crazy dive from the top turnbuckle to the floor, almost like a double axe handle. Back in the ring, Christian hit his reverse DDT for two.

Christian landed ten blows in the corner. Hardy caught Christian between the ropes and hit a draping DDT on the steel steps. He catapulted Christian’s throat into the ropes and hit a diving elbow drop for two ahead of a commercial break.

Once back, Christian avoided a dive and floated over with a rope-hang right hand. He followed it up with a diving uppercut for two. Hardy went for the Twist of Fate, but Christian fought out and hit a spear for a good near fall. He then hit a neckbreaker over the ropes, followed by a frog splash for another near fall.

Hardy perched Christian on the top rope and peppered him with right hands followed by a superplex. Hardy was too slow to cover and only got two. Christian cradled Hardy for two and went for the Killswitch, but Hardy grabbed the referee and hit a low blow. Hardy followed it up with the Twist of Fate for a close near fall.

They rolled to the floor, where Hardy locked on the Leech, his new submission finisher. Hardy rolled back into the ring as the referee counted, with Christian making it back in the ring at nine. Christian countered the Twist of Fate into the Killswitch for the pin.

– After the match, Hardy Family Offices (Private Party & TH2) surrounded the ring, but Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus ran out to make the save.

Miro cut a promo, telling a story about himself. After months of insecurity, a voice called out to tell Miro to return to who he was. Miro destroyed everyone in his path, making him God’s favorite champion. The TNT Championship was his reward. Miro’s not just willing to defend his championship with his life, he’s willing to defend it with yours. He’s “the Redeemer.” His title has been re-designed, with a white strap and green accents.

**********

Britt Baker promo

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. was brought out by Schiavone. He said everyone was concerned about Baker’s well-being. Baker said don’t worry about it, she’s dealt with a lot and came out the baddest bitch on the block. What’s daunting is trying to keep Nyla Rose relevant. Rose has beaten Baker, but Baker’s in a league of her own.

Rose and Vickie Guerrero were shown backstage. Baker said Vickie has a last name that will keep her relevant in wrestling, but Rose doesn’t. With the championship, Baker’s the hottest promo in professional wrestling, but even without it, she’s still “D.M.D.”

Backstage, Rose said next week, she’d hand Baker the ass-whooping of her life.

**********

Jon Moxley was backstage. One does not beat Lance Archer, one simply survives Lance Archer. Moxley isn’t the hunted, he’s the hunter. Archer wants Texas Death Part 2? Next week, Archer won’t just be Texas-born and Texas-bred, he’ll be Texas dead.

**********

Sammy Guevara defeated Wheeler YUTA (w/ Orange Cassidy)

YUTA came out to the Best Friends’ music. Blade and Bunny were shown looking on in the audience.

Guevara used some acrobatics to hit a dropkick early on. He feinted on a springboard dive and posed in the ring as YUTA rolled to the floor. They performed a chain wrestling sequence as Guevara missed two moonsaults before hitting a running shooting star press for two. Guevara climbed to the top rope, but YUTA got the knees up on the shooting star press.

YUTA fought back from a hammer throw with a step-up dropkick. Guevara hit a forearm smash, but YUTA came back with a German suplex. YUTA followed it up with a diving splash, but Guevara kicked out at one. They exchanged strikes until Guevara hit a corner spear, gamenguiri, and a double springboard cutter. The GTH followed from Guevara for the win in about five minutes.

**********

QT Marshall and The Factory were interviewed by Tony Schiavone. Marshall was all angry about his loss and poured a protein shake on Schiavone’s head like a big bully.

**********

Yuka Sakazaki defeated Penelope Ford

Loud “Yuka” chants at the start for Sakazaki’s first Dynamite match in 16 months. They performed a chain wrestling sequence before Sakazaki climbed to the top rope and cartwheeled over to evade an attack. A dropkick followed, sending Ford to the floor. Sakazaki landed a middle-rope cannonball dive before bringing Ford into the ring for a cover. Ford took out Sakazaki’s knee and choked her over the ropes ahead of the commercial.

They were having a forearm strike exchange upon return from the break. Sakazaki powered Ford up for a nice vertical suplex. She hit a rolling kick and a sliding D for two, then a diving back elbow for two more. Ford fought out of a suplex and hit two pump kicks for two. Sakazaki came back with the Magical Merry Go Round followed by the Magical Girl Splash, giving Sakazaki the win.

The coffin got an entrance.

Coffin Match: Darby Allin defeated Ethan Page

The rules are that the coffin must close around a competitor for the match to end.

Allin attacked before the bell. He took off his jacket to reveal a steel plate on his back, hitting a Coffin Drop for good measure. Allin then landed a crushing tope suicida.

Scorpio Sky popped out of the coffin and blindsided Allin, then Sting came out to even the odds. Sting repeatedly sent Sky into the barricade. The camera missed it, but Sting missed a Stinger Splash in the fan area. Sky celebrated on a railing, so Sting summarily dropped him over it and smacked him with a trash can.

Page was sent into the audience, leading to a commercial. During the break, Allin jumped off a railing, but Page caught him. The steel steps were introduced to the fight, and Page dropped Allin over them. Allin briefly escaped the onslaught and dove at Page, but Page tackled him down.

Before the break, Page had taken the bottom rope apart. He hooked Allin’s neck with the corner hook. Allin came back by fishhooking Page’s mouth with the hook. He then dropkicked Page into the coffin. They exchanged strikes in the coffin. Page hit strong right hand slaps, but Allin then bit Page’s hand. Page backdropped Allin to the floor and broght the fight back to the ring.

Page was busted open at this point. He went for a fireman’s carry throw from the top of the stairs, but Allin fought out and hit a stunner. Page cut off a Coffin Drop attempt and hit an avalanche Ego’s Edge onto the steel steps. Allin countered an apron suplex by gouging at Page’s eyes and biting at his face. Allin then picked up the skateboard and hit a skateboard-assisted stomp, sending Page into the coffin.

Allin then closed the coffin on Page to win the match.

– After the match, Allin hit a Coffin Drop through the top of the coffin onto Page inside, which was a great-looking spot.

AEW Dynamite video highlights: Fyter Fest night two

Night two of AEW Fyter Fest was headlined by Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy, but it was the eight-man tag team match that stole the show.

The Lucha Brothers, The Butcher & The Blade teamed up to defeat The Young Bucks & FTR in a memorable clash.

On almost any other night Jericho and Cassidy would have a rightful claim to match of the night honors after a strong main event match that saw Jericho defeat Cassidy with a Judas Effect.

Fyter Fest night two also featured a strong opener as Kenny Omega & Hangman Page retained their AEW World Tag Team Championships with a win over Private Party.

AEW World Tag Team Championship match: Hangman Page & Kenny Omega defeated Private Party (w/Matt Hardy) to retain the titles

This was a great opener.

Omega and Marq Quen kicked things off. Quen used a headscissors takedown and a trip takedown to set up a standing moonsault attempt. Omega got his knees up to cut Quen off. Page and Omega hit a series of chops.

Page hit a fall-away slam with a bridge for a two count. Omega missed a kotaro krusher. Isiah Kassidy tagged in to hit the silly string on Omega. Page and Quen brawled on the floor where Page threw Quen over the barricade. Kassidy hit a spectacular springboard dive to the floor.

All four guys jumped in as the match broke down. Quen and Kassidy hit a double Spanish fly on Omega for a near fall. Kassidy got another near fall off a backbreaker. Page blind tagged himself in and powerbombed Quen on top of Kassidy.

Kassidy hit a moonsault off the post to Omega on the floor. Kassidy cut Page off as he went for a Buckshot Lariat on Quen and nailed him with a flatliner on the stage. Quen hit a shooting star press on Page but Omega broke up the pin at the last possible instant.

Omega and Page blocked the Gin ‘n’ Juice. Omega sent Quen outside with a v-trigger.

Omega and Page then hit the Last Call on Kassidy and Page scored the pinfall.

Lance Archer (w/Jake Roberts) defeated Joey Janela

Archer entered with Janela’s tag partner Sonny Kiss in a fireman’s carry on his shoulders. Archer launched Kiss into Janela. Janela came back with a dive off the post.

Janela set up a table on the outside. He then grabbed a chair and climbed to the top rope. The referee took the chair away which gave Archer time to recover. Archer hit a pounce, then targeted Janela’s back with stomps.

You could see welts forming on Janela’s back and chest from the force of Archer’s blows. Archer continued working Janela over as the show went to a commercial break.

**********

A Cody appearance on the Hot Ones game show was advertised during this match and segments will be played from it throughout the rest of the show.

Roberts jumped on the apron with a snake bag and took the ref. Janela hit Archer with a senton. Kiss hit a 450 splash. Janela covered for a two count.

Archer hit Blackout through the table that Janela had set up earlier. Archer threw Janela inside and pinned him.

Allin hit a Coffin Drop off a tall platform into a foam pit.

**********

Tony Schiavone went to the ring and introduced Taz and Brian Cage.

Taz brought a black bag to the ring. He said what was in the bag was something he created years ago with his blood, sweat and tears, the FTW World Championship.

Taz said no promotion has ever recognized the FTW title but fans around the world recognize that whoever holds that title is the baddest son of a bitch on the planet. Taz said Cage is no longer uncrowned, he’s the new FTW champion.

Taz said the FTW Championship is some renegade sh**. He said Cage is the FTW Champion and will soon be the AEW Champion too.

Taz continued his run of great promos here.

**********

The Butcher, The Blade, Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix defeated The Young Bucks & FTR

This was an incredible match. If they wanted to go the rest of the show I would have been fine with it.

Penta and Nick started off but Penta demanded that Harwood tag in. Harwood and Wheeler went after Pentagon’s left arm. Pentagon came back with kicks to Harwood. Pentagon hit a double stomp off the top. Fenix tagged in for a springboard kick and a one count.

Things descended into chaos. This was just all action. The Bucks doubled up and hit tandem dropkicks and superkicks. Butcher and Blade jumped in and cut off the Bucks. FTR made the save for the Bucks.

Fenix and Nick Jackson ended up the legal men. Nick hit a super frankensteiner for a near fall. Wheeler jumped in and hit a dragon suplex. Finally the heels cut off Wheeler and worked him over through a commercial break.

Harwood and Matt hit a tandem superplex. Wheeler hit a springboard splash. Nick hit a swanton bomb. Pentagon broke up a pin.

Matt and Pentagon ended up the legal men. Fenix hit a springboard destroyer on Nick off the second rope to the floor. That was insane.

The finish saw Matt accidentally hit Harwood with a kick. Pentagon and Fenix hit Matt with the fire driver for the pin.

Alex Marvez and an unnamed legal representative greeted Big Swole as she arrived at the building. Big Swole was served with suspension papers. The announcers explained that Britt Baker petitioned AEW to have Swole suspended for kidnapping and harassment. Swole left.

The heel has a real point here.

Rose won a squash after hitting a Beast Bomb on Paige and pinning both Paige and King at the same time.

**********

Rose cut a promo after the match. She said that actions speak louder than words and her actions spoke loudly here tonight. She then proceeded to say more words.

Rose said she sees all these great wrestlers in AEW with managers and most of them have titles. She said she’s going to have a manager but she’s not ready to say who it is yet.

Rose turned her attention to Hikaru Shida in the crowd. She said the manager will ensure that she will leave AEW with Hikaru Shida’s title very soon.

Colt Cabana was in the trainer’s room. The trainer said that Cabana had a hematoma after being whipped into a railing backstage last week but he’s cleared to compete. Cabana had a nasty bruise.

Mr. Brodie Lee entered and told Cabana that things like this wouldn’t happen in the future if Cabana had Dark Order watching his back. Cabana thanked Lee.

**********

Mr. Brodie Lee, Colt Cabana & Stu Grayson defeated Scorpio Sky, Frankie Kazarian & Christopher Daniels

This was a good match and the story of Cabana slowly embracing Dark Order is growing on me.

Grayson and Daniels started out. Grayson got some offense before Daniels cut him off. Kazarian tagged in and hit a release German suplex for a two count.

Cabana and Sky tagged in. Cabana sold his ribs as Sky grabbed him. Lee began yelling at Cabana from the apron as if he was angry that Cabana was showing weakness.

Dark Order provided a distraction from the stage. Lee jumped in and cut Sky off. Lee, Grayson and Cabana took turns working Sky over through a commercial break.

After the break, Lee slammed Sky. Grayson hit a splash off the top for a two count. Sky came back with a kick to Cabana’s ribs and a neckbreaker.

Kazarian and Lee got tags. Kazarian hit a one-legged dropkick, blocked a boss man slam and hit a springboard DDT. Lee hoisted Kazarian up. Daniels hit him with a missile dropkick and Kazarian covered for a near fall.

Taz to make ‘major announcement’ at AEW Fyter Fest

A major announcement by Taz has been announced for tomorrow’s Fyter Fest event.

Tony Khan tweeted the following this afternoon: “Also tomorrow night at Night 2 of the Fyter Fest on #AEWDynamite on TNT, @OfficialTAZ & Brian Cage @MrGMSI_BCage will be interviewed by @tonyschiavone24, and Taz will make an announcement that I guarantee will send shockwaves through the world of professional wrestling!”

Cage was originally set to face Jon Moxley for the AEW World title on the second night of Fyter Fest. However, Moxley has been at home following his wife Renee Young’s positive COVID-19 test. The match has been rescheduled for Fight for the Fallen, which will take place on the July 15th edition of Dynamite.

Matches announced for the second night of Fyter Fest include Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy, Lance Archer vs. Joey Janela, Nyla Rose vs. an opponent to be named, Colt Cabana & The Dark Order vs. SoCal Uncensored, FTR & The Young Bucks vs. The Butcher & The Blade & Lucha Brothers, and Kenny Omega & Hangman Page defending the AEW Tag Team titles against Private Party.

AEW Dynamite video highlights: Fyter Fest night one

Hikaru Shida defeated Penelope Ford last night at Fyter Fest to retain her AEW Women’s World Championship in arguably the match of the night.

This was a strong outing from both women and probably the best match of Ford’s career.

Two other title matches also highlighted night one of Fyter Fest.

Kenny Omega & Hangman Page retained the AEW World Tag Team titles last night. They defeated Best Friends to keep their championships as well as their 2020 undefeated tag team records. Omega & Page will defend their titles again next week at night two of Fyter Fest against Private Party.

Cody retained the TNT Championship with a win over Jake Hager. Hager had Cody locked in an arm triangle, but Cody flipped over into a cover to score the pinfall victory. The match also saw Hager’s wife Catalina, Cody’s manager Arn Anderson, and Cody’s brother Dustin Rhodes get involved before the finish.

AEW Puppy Battle Royale announced for next Wednesday

While the term “puppies” in pro wrestling is commonly associated with Attitude Era Jerry Lawler commentary, AEW is looking to bring it back but in a totally different context.

During night one of Fyter Fest, AEW announced that next week will see the debut of the Puppy Battle Royale:

How about a casual puppy break after that first match #FyterFest#AEWDynamitepic.twitter.com/pyGBdAOnS6

— All Elite Wrestling on TNT (@AEWonTNT) July 2, 2020

No details, or even the context of why they are doing this, was announced. It’s also unclear if this is airing during Fyter Fest or afterward as the clip that ran during the show said ‘Next week after Fyter Fest’ while the video above that was tweeted didn’t.

Next week’s Fyter Fest lineup changed as AEW World Champion Jon Moxley vs. Brian Cage was moved two weeks to July 15th for the newly announced Fight For The Fallen. Moxley’s wife, Renee Young, tested positive for COVID-19 recently, so the move is assumed to be a precautionary one.

The lineup:

  • AEW Tag Team Champions Kenny Omega & Hangman Page vs. Private Party
  • Orange Cassidy vs. Chris Jericho
  • FTR & Young Bucks vs. The Butcher & The Blade and Lucha Bros
  • Lance Archer (w/Jake Roberts) vs. Joey Janela

  • SCU vs. Dark Order (Mr. Brodie Lee and Stu Grayson) and Colt Cabana

Moxley-Cage AEW title match pushed back to Fight for the Fallen

Fight for the Fallen will take place in two weeks, with Jox Moxley defending the AEW World title against Brian Cage.

AEW announced the event and match tonight on Dynamite. It will take place on July 15 on TNT. Originally, Jon Moxley was set to defend the title against Cage on the second night of Fyter Fest, which is being taped tonight to air next week.

Moxley has not been on television since his wife, WWE announcer Renee Young, tested positive for COVID-19 last week. Moxley opted to stay home prior to last week’s Dynamite as a precaution.

Taz and Brian Cage came out after the announcement, with Taz saying that he wasn’t upset the match has been moved back, and that Cage would take the title from Moxley’s “dumb ass” at Fight for the Fallen.

The second night of Fyter Fest  will have Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy, Lance Archer vs. Joey Janela, Colt Cabana & The Dark Order vs. SCU, FTR & The Young Bucks vs. The Butcher & The Blade and Lucha Brothers in an eight man tag team match, Nyla Rose vs. an unnamed opponent, and Private Party vs. Hangman Page & Kenny Omega.
