ROH x CMLL Global Wars live results: Bandido vs. Mascara Dorada

In matches from last week’s AEW visit to Arena Mexico, Ring of Honor will go to battle with CMLL in tonight’s Global Wars on HonorClub.

The show is headlined by ROH World Champion Bandido defending against Mascara Dorada. Dorada is looking for his first ROH title while Bandido is looking to secure his second title defense.

In a non-title bout, ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty will take on the legendary Blue Panther which was followed by a very big run-in (spoiler).

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena teams with ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet take on Thunder Rosa and Persephone.

In a Proving Ground match, ROH Men’s TV Champion Nick Wayne takes on Titan who needs a win or draw to earn a future title shot.

**********

The Global Wars kick off here and an hour earlier to boot! It’s ROH vs CMLL and with five ROH champions in action, it’s going to be a battle we won’t soon forget!

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena & ROH Women’s Television Champion Red Velvet vs Persephone & Thunder Rosa

Persephone is a rising star in CMLL and has a win over Red Velvet from a couple of weeks ago in Mexico. Her partner is the notorious Thunder Rosa, who’s a former AEW Women’s World Champion. Their opponents are a duo of women who’ve each dominated in ROH. Red Velvet has held the ROH Women’s TV Title for just under a year and the ROH Women’s Forever Champion, Athena, has held her belt for… well, forever.

Athena has stopped bringing the belt with her face pasted on it to the ring and I feel like that’s going to hurt her in the long run. There was a bit of stare down between her and Velvet as the entered and I’m sure they will end up in a feud soon enough.

Athena and Rosa, who have a date at Supercard of Honor in July, kicked things off with the crowd firmly behind Rosa. Velvet hit a blind tag and tried to double team Rosa, but she ducked both Velvet and Athena, sending the latter out of the ring.

Rosa brought in Persephone and they delivered a double dropkick to a sitting Velvet. Athena re-entered the match and started jawing at Persephone, leading to a lock up and a quick pin attempt by each. Athena nailed her with a high knee, but Persephone was barely affected. Athena resorted to shoves and tagged Velvet in.

Isolating Persephone in the corner, Velvet and Athena traded tags and double teams. Velvet got a little too excited and tried a high knee that almost missed Persephone entirely and almost sent Velvet over the top rope.

Rosa got a hot tag from Persephone and took the fight to Athena with a huge dropkick. Rosa tried a couple of pins, but Velvet broke them up. Velvet sent Persephone out and battled Rosa while Athena recovered. Athena hit Rosa with a face breaker and Velvet followed it with a Stir It Up kick, but Persephone broke up the pin.

Persephone got planted by Athena with an O-Face, but that left her open to get hit by Rosa. Rosa grabbed Velvet in the fray and pinned her for the win.

Match Result: Persephone & Thunder Rosa defeat Athena & Red Velvet

Pretty good opener, but with that much talent in the ring it was always gonna be! Loved Athena and Velvet working together and wouldn’t hate to see her join the MiT program.

ROH World Television Title Proving Ground Match: Nick Wayne [c] vs. Titan

Wayne won the ROH Television Title from Komander back in April on the Spring Break Thru edition of AEW Collision. Since then, he’s defended it three times, but never on ROH TV. So, yes, this Proving Ground match is the ROH Tv Champion’s first ROH TV match since winning the title. Titan has been holding the CMLL World Welterweight Championship for a staggering 2027 days as of this writing (quick math: just over five and a half years).

Titan seemed really annoyed by Wayne’s fun-fur accented ring attire, glaring at him as he entered the ring. At least I assume he glared, the mask made it had to see. Wayne was unfazed though as the match kicked off with a lock up. Wayne got the early advantage, setting Titan up in the corner.

Titan tried to turn up the speed, but Wayne was able to dodge and roll away from whatever he threw at him. Eventually, Wayne caught Titan and set him up on the top rope, sending him to the outside in the process. Wayne then showboated in the ring before sending Titan into the barricade outside the ring.

Wayne continued to showboat and throw Titan around outside the ring, seemingly unaware that there was a ten minute time limit on this match, as there is with all Proving Ground matches.

Back in the ring, Wayne ate up more time, slowing the pace of the match to a crawl. He tried to take Titan’s mask, which incensed the crowd. Wayne dropped a leg and went for a pin, but no dice as Titan kicked out at two.

Titan suddenly exploded with a series of, for lack of a better term, ninja kicks followed by a springboard crossbody. Wayne was back on his heels and Titan gave him a reciept from earlier and sent him into the barricade on the outside.

In the ring, Titan set up Wayne up for a piledriver, but Wayne reversed it and hit a springboard Cutter, but it wasn’t enough to finish Titan off. Wayne tried to switch gears and put on a full nelson hold, but Titan punched his way out of it and the two started trading chops.

Wayne tried a standing acid drop, but Titan wasn’t done yet. He grabbed Wayne for a spinning toss and climbed the ring post. Wayne rolled out of the way as the announcement of “one minute remaining” rang out.

Titan picked up the pace, trying to put Wayne down quickly, but that caused a mistake and Wayne almost won with an inside cradle. Titan took a little too long to lock in a grapevine submission and the bell rang, ending the match. Good for Titan, because he gets his title shot as in Proving Ground matches, the tie goes to the challenger.

Match Result: Time limit Draw. Titan earns a shot at the ROH World Television Title.

Boy, I love to hate Nick Wayne. That means he’s pretty good at what he does, heel-wise. Titan is fantastic, but the match was a little uneven pacing wise. I wouldn’t hate it if ROH started putting a clock on the screen during Proving Ground matches, just to up the anxiety.

ROH World Title Match: Bandido (c) vs Mascara Dorada

Bandido has been racking up the title defenses since winning the ROH World Title from Chris Jericho at AEW Dynasty. He’s been doing the one thing that the few ROH World Title holders before him did not do, which is defend the Ring of Honor Title in Ring of Honor. His challenger for the evening is Mascara Dorada, who is a double champion in CMLL, holding 1/3rd of the World Trios Championship as well as the World Historic Welterweight Championship. A couple weeks ago, Dorada saved Bandido from an attack by Blake Christian.

Lots of respect shown off the top as the two locked up. Dorada came out on top, but stepped back to give Bandido another chance. Like I say, respect.

Dorada and Bandido then started putting on a lucha clinic with throws and tosses at an absolutely breakneck speed. Dorada went for a 450 from the top but Bandido dodged and set him up for a 21 Plex. Dorada avoided it though and the crowd was absolutely going nuts.

Bandido sent Dorada to the outside and started a suicide dive, but Dorada leapt back into the ring sending Bandido out on the other side! Dorada then flew over the top rope and knocked the air out of Bandido.

Dorada was in control now, bringing Bandido back into the ring and stunning him against the ropes. Dorada went up for another 450 attempt and landed this one. But it only got a two-count as Bandido kicked out.

Bandido hit a pop-up cutter which flipped Dorada out of the ring. Bandido followed with a Plancha and climbed into the crowd to celebrate.

Once everyone was back in the ring, Bandido caught Dorada on the top turnbuckle and suplexed him into the ring. Dorada fought back though an sent Bandido into the corner. The two traded shots in the corners until Bandido hit a huge flipping splash over the ring post onto Dorada on the outside. He threw Dorada back into the ring and went up for a frog splash.

Dorada wouldn’t go down though and hit a standing hurricanrana on the champion, standing on top of his shoulders! Bandido recovered and was clapping, it was so impressive. The two began trading chops in the middle of the ring with no clear winner in sight.

The fight moved to the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring!) where they traded superkicks. A double dropkick caused them to collide and land on the outside. Both beat the count back into the ring with Dorada pounding the mat in frustration.

The began fighting up the entrance ramp, trading hip tosses. Dorada climbed up the entrance staircase (allegedly 10 feet up) and hit a crossbody on Bandido, crushing him into the ramp. He threw Bandido back in the ring, then ran the full length of the entrance ramp to deliver a flipping leg for a two count.

Dorada’s insane core strength came into play as he did situps in Bandido’s arms to avoid a three-count. Three times. Bandido tried a driver, but again, Dorada wouldn’t go down. Bandido sent him to the corner and they climbed the ropes. Dorada did a standing superrana OFF THE TOP RINGPOST sent Bandido flying. He hit 450 for good measure, but Bandido kicked out at two.

Bandido caught Dorada off the rope and and hit an X-Knee. That set him up for the 21 Plex, but Dorada kicked out! The crowd was insane!

Bandido went for a splash in the corner, but Dorada blocked it. They climbed to the top rope and Bandido hit a moonsault slam setting Dorada up for a second 21 Plex. This one got it and Dorada was pinned, ending an excellent, excellent match!

Match Result: Bandido defeats Mascara Dorada

Wow! That was REALLY fun!! This match not being the main event is kind of mind blowing to me, but perhaps that’s for good reason. Either way, what a banger! With the ROH Title Match for Supercard of Honor not set yet, I wouldn’t be upset if they revisited this matchup.

-Next, as if they heard what I was thinking, they answered that question by issuing a challenge to Bandido for the ROH Title at Supercard of Honor, from none other than Konosuke Takeshita! I’ll take that!

-It was also announced that Top Flight and the Infantry would duke it out next week for the opportunity to to take on the ROH World Tag Champions at Supercard of Honor!

Non-Title Match: ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty (w/Carlie Bravo, Shane Taylor & Shawn Dean) vs Blue Panther

Before the match a very babyface promo from Moriarty aired, in which he talked about what a dream it is to compete in Arena Mexico. The belt is not on the line in this match, but ROH Pure Champion Moriarty brought backup anyway. Shane Taylor Promotions was at ringside as Moriarty took on the legendary Blue Panther who steps into the ring at 64 years young. Panther began wrestling in 1978. That’s two years before even this old-ass reporter was born!

Moriarty showed respect off the top and shared a code of honor with Panther while wearing his Tiga Style mask. He took it off when the bell rang though and the two locked up. Panther wrenched on Moriarty’s neck via headlock until Moriarty reversed it into a wristlock.

The two stomped around the ring as Panther wrenched Moriarty’s arm. He moved into a full nelson hold, but Moriarty reversed it into an abdominal stretch. Panther powered out of it and the two created space, circling each other. A smiling Moriarty seemed to be having a blast trading holds with the lucha legend.

Moriarty delivered a few uppercuts in the corner and Panther responded with some hard chops while Shane Taylor shouted on the outside. Moriarty went for a splash in the corner and Panther dodged, throwing a series of elbows as they ran the ropes. Moriarty sent Panther to the outside and hit two suicidas while the Infantry trash talked.

Panther climbed back into the ring and up to the top rope. Moriarty met him there and delivered a superplex to a 64 year old man. Somehow, Panther kicked out of the pin attempt. From there, Moriarty tried a Border City Stretch, but Panther wouldn’t give up, trying desperately to get to the ropes. Eventually he did and Moriarty broke the hold.

The chop trading began with Panther coming out on top with a lariat out of nowhere, followed by a clothesline that sent Moriarty out of the ring. Panther ran up the entrance ramp and delivered a leaping crossbody to Moriarty on the outside.

Panther tossed Moriarty back into the ring and sent him to the corner for a flipping crossbody into a shoestring armbar, causing Moriarty to tap out! Panther wins clean!

Match Result: Blue Panther defeats Lee Moriarty

After the match, the Infantry and Shane Taylor started a beatdown on Panther. Taylor delivered a huge splash, and then a second-rope– wait, what’s that music? It’s BRIAN DANIELSON!!!! He sent Hologram, Mascara Dorada and… a friend (?), down to the ring to clean house before delivering a high knee to Taylor himself!! The crowd chanted YES! and so did I, much to my attempted-napping wife’s chagrin!

After the ring cleared, Danielson grabbed a mic and thanked the crowd and telling them that they are loved by AEW and ROH.

What to say about that?!? other than AMAZING!

AEW & ROH vs. CMLL Arena Mexico live results: Bandido vs. Mascara Dorada

A big week in Arena Mexico kicks off with tonight’s AEW & ROH vs. CMLL event from the famed Arena Mexico — an appetizer before AEW’s official debut with Wednesday’s Grand Slam Mexico.

In the main event, ROH World Champion Bandido will defend against CMLL’s Mascara Dorada in their first ever meeting. It will be Bandido’s second defense of the title he won at April’s Dynasty.

In eight-man action, The Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Rocky Romero & Hechicero) will take on CMLL’s Averno, Euforia, Gran Guerrero & Ultimo Guerrero.

The CMLL Tag Team titles will be on the line as Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja defend against CRU (Lio Rush & Action Andretti).

In what should be a spectacle, the undefeated Hologram faces CMLL’s Neon.

In a singles match, Josh Alexander will face CMLL’s Atlantis Jr., while ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet takes on CMLL’s Persephone in a non-title match.

Our live coverage will begin shortly.

**********

Persephone vs. ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet in a non-title match

(This wasn’t the smoothest opener, but the crowd got behind Persephone as she scored a win over the ROH Women’s TV Champion. This could be setting up a rematch for Supercard of Honor in Texas, but I couldn’t be sure about anything with ROH these days.)

It’s a Tuesday, but it feels like a Thursday as the Ring of Honor Women’s Television Champion Red Velvet kicks off the show against CMLL’s Persephone. Velvet is giving up a good bit of size to Persephone, but Persephone chose to start the match with mat work and hair pulling that got the referee’s attention. Velvet came back with a big headscissors, but Persephone got her by the waist and tossed her down. Velvet came back with a leg lariat and set Persephone up for the ten punches, but Persephone slipped under and shoved Velvet’s legs out from under her to send her crumbling to the mat. Persephone held control until Velvet hit a drop toe hold that sent Persephone into the ropes. Persephone bailed to the outside, but Velvet followed her to the floor with a big dive.

Velvet hit a wheelbarrow facebuster for a nearfall. Persephone came back with a big powerslam for a nearfall. Velvet kicked Persephone’s knee out and hit a spin kick for a nearfall. Velvet choked Persephone out in the corner before taunting the fans, so I believe she’s the heel. I know she’s a heel on ROH TV, but I’d bet about 95% of Arena Mexico wouldn’t know. Persephone hit a shotgun dropkick, then locked Velvet up in a spider flash pin for a nearfall. Persephone went for a Splash Mountain, but Velvet rolled through for a nearfall. Velvet went for another headscissors, but Persephone caught her with a powerbomb to get the win.

Match Result: Persephone defeated Red Velvet

CMLL Tag Team Champions Los Hermanos Chavez (Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja) defend against CRU (Action Andretti & Lio Rush)

(This was a fun tag match, with Cru accounting for themselves well here in a fine match for its spot on the card.)

If CMLL were by a carny capitalist like me, they would have tricked people into thinking Rush (of La Faccion Ingobernable) would be on this show instead of Lio Rush. It’s not a lie; a man named Rush is on the show! Niebla Roja of the championship team came out with A LARGE SWORD. I would make an NXT joke, but it feels sacrilegious to bring up NXT star Karmen Petrovic during an Arena Mexico show. The titles are on the line here, as Los Hermanos Chaves have been champions since January 23rd, 2022. This is their 22nd defense of the titles.

Cru played coy to start before Rush got in to start against Roja. We quickly got a standoff before their partners tagged in, with Andretti getting sent flying with a headscissors. Oro went for a dive, but got cut off by Rush, who himself got cut off by Roja. Roja went for a dive, but CRU dodged him and laid him out with a double suplex into the apron, which didn’t look fun. Cru used their speed to double team Oro. Roja got beaten down 2-on-1 but eventually made the tag out to Oro. The champs fired up and hit a pair of dives to the floor for a big pop. Rojo shot up Andretti into a boot from Oro. The champs took Rush up-and-over with a tag team Burning Hammer-style move for a nearfall that Andretti broke up.

Andretti and Rush sent the champs to the apron and knocked them down with handsprings before hitting dives of their own. Rush hit Rush Hour on Oro, and then helped Andretti hit a big neckbreaker for a nearfall that Roja broke up. Oro sent Andretti up with a catapult, then locked both Cru members in tandem submissions. Oro sent Rush into Andretti before hitting a dropkick that caused Andretti to DDT Rush for a big double nearfall. All four men ended up on opposite posts, and Hermanos Chavez hit two big moves off the top rope for the win and a successful defense of the titles.

Match Result: Los Hermanos Chavez defeated CRU to retain the CMLL Tag Team titles

Hologram (w/ Alex Abrahantes) vs. Neon

(This was another stellar singles match for Hologram, with an eternally hot Arena Mexico fired up for both men. Neon is a pretty spectacular flyer in his own right. Awesome stuff here.)

The two tested each other’s speed to start, coming to a quick stalemate. Neon baited Hologram in with a handshake before kicking off another sequence, with Hologram pulling off his evasion in the corner before Neon caught him with a headscissors and followed him to the floor with a big tope con hilo. Hologram came back with a kick on the apron before hitting a high cross. Hologram sidestepped Neon before hitting his missile dive to the floor. Back in the ring, neither man could keep each other down for a pin attempt, leading Neon to drop Hologram with a sliding boot for a nearfall.

Both men had the same idea, sliding into each other before Hologram hit a wacky facebuster for a nearfall. Neon went up-and-over Hologram, eventually getting him in a crucifix for a nearfall. Hologram went up the ropes before Neon dropkicked him down. Neon went for his spectacular double jump moonsault from the ramp to the floor, but Hologram slid in the ring and caught him with a powerbomb for a nearfall. Neon came back, dropping Hologram and hitting a vaulting stomp over the ropes for a nearfall. Hologram ducked a corner charge and baited Neon to the floor, where he hit a Spanish Fly. Hologram hit a 450 splash, but Neon grabbed the ropes. Hologram set up the Portal Bomb, but Neon fought out and hit a hurricanrana off the apron to the floor.

Neon hit the aforementioned spectacular double jump moonsault from the ramp to the floor, then hit a moonsault in the ring for a big nearfall. Neon set Hologram onto the ropes, and after a jostle for positioning, Hologram hit a reverse Spanish Fly for a nearfall. The two traded chops and kicks until they both went down. Neon got up first and set up a step-up moonsault, but Hologram got up and booted Neon in the head on the way down. Hologram hit the Portal Bomb to get the AEW/ROH contingent their first win. The two men shook hands to end things on a positive note.

Match Result: Hologram defeated Neon

Atlantis Jr. vs. Josh Alexander

(This was a solid TV-level match, with the interesting part being Arena Mexico booing their CMLL guy. It wasn’t due to performance, as Atlantis didn’t screw anything up badly. I can’t say for sure as I’m not a regular CMLL viewer, but maybe the Mexican smart crowd aren’t big fans of the guy.)

Atlantis caught Alexander with a quick headscissors to start before vaulting him up into a knee strike. Atlantis sent Alexander to the floor and set up a dive before Alexander cut him off. Alexander took Atlantis down with an arm takeover for a nearfall as he took in the crows. He kept going after Atlantis’ mask and toe tapping him, getting Atlantis to fire up with chops before cutting him down with a kitchen sink knee. Atlantis took Alexander down with a Slingblade and a headscissors to the floor. Atlantis followed Alexander to the floor with a dive. Alexander ducked a top-rope attack and caught a headscissors before dropping Atlantis over his knee.

Alexander went for the C4 Spike, but Atlantis flipped it into a sunset flip for a nearfall. Alexander vaulted Atlantis to the ramp, where Atlantis booted Alexander in the face and hit a running high cross over the ropes for a nearfall. Alexander cut off Atlantis on the top rope and locked on an Ankle Lock on the top rope. Alexander followed with a big German suplex. Alexander had Atlantis in Tombstone position, but Atlantis reversed it into the Bastard Driver for a nearfall. The two men traded forearms, with the crowd interestingly behind Alexander even though he was playing full heel here. Alexander stomped on Atlantis’ ankle in the corner before locking on the Ankle Lock and dragging Atlantis to the center of the ring. Atlantis fought out and hit a powerslam to a mixed reaction.

Both men ended up on the top rope before Atlantis kicked Alexander down and hit a frog splash. Alexander kicked out and immediately locked on the Ankle Lock, but Atlantis bridged back and pinned Alexander for the win as the boo birds were out.

Match Result: Atlantis Jr. defeated Josh Alexander

Averno, Euforia, Gran Guerrero & Ultimo Guerrero vs. The Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Hechicero & Rocky Romero)

(I can’t put it into words how fun this match was. This was a big party match, with the tecnicos standing tall over the hated heels as the crowd lost their minds at the action. This wasn’t a Match of the Year contender or anything, but every pro wrestling show on Earth could use a match like this one, especially if it gets the crowd as rowdy as this match did.)

The Callis Family came out separately, with Romero getting the last entrance as he’s one of CMLL’s biggest heels at the moment. Hechicero was meant to team with Averno & Guerrero, but he turned on them to team with his real family. Euforia and Hechicero got into it as the bell rang before the teams had cleared out. The Infantry were in the crowd, raising the roof for Ultimo Guerrero. Chris Hero was beside them, enjoying the show from his seat.

Fletcher & Ultimo kicked things off, with Ultimo almost catching Fletcher in La Tapatilla. Fletcher caught Ultimo with some chops and mocked Ultimo’s raising of the roof, but you can’t mock Ultimo Guerrero in Arena Mexico and get away with it. Ultimo spun Fletcher around and chopped him before raising the roof and tagging in Averno. Romero tagged in for the rudos and got Averno in the Callis corner for his partners to stomp out as the referee was concerned with the tecnicos. Averno flipped the script and got Romero in his corner to get booted as this referee has gotten spun six ways to Sunday. The Callis Family dragged Averno to the floor as the match broke down.

Hechicero and Ultimo were in the ring as brawling happened on the floor. The crowd chanted for Hechicero, trying to get him to see the light. And because Hechicero’s awesome. The heels quadruple-teamed Ultimo before posing to boos. Averno got dragged in, with Hechicero hitting the first hair-mare I’ve seen since like, 2010. Boots in the corner led to a double stomp assisted Bastard Driver for a nearfall that Euforia broke up. He too got his ass kicked, with Romero hitting his Forever clotheslines. Gran Guerrero had enough and went after Hechicero’s mask, but the rudos took him down and teased his mask. Gran tried swinging at all four rudos, but they quickly took him down before Romero dropkicked him to the floor. They went for the same combination on Ultimo, but Averno & Euforia dragged Romero to the floor.

The tecnicos got some offense going and sent all four rudos to the floor as the crowd went crazy for Ultimo. Averno & Euforia double-teamed Romero, then Gran Guerrero launched his massive body onto Fletcher for a nearfall. Gran & Takeshita traded shots before Takeshita hit his home run forearm to take him down. Ultimo took down Takeshita, dropping him with a top rope facebuster. We got to the fireworks factory as we got everyone hitting a big move. Hechicero locked Averno up in a wild spinning pinfall before the tecnicos took him down, leading to Euforia hitting a big splash off the ropes for a nearfall. They did the big “everyone joins the suplex” spot, with the Callis Family winning and hitting big dives afterward. Romero and Gran Guerrero were left in the ring, and Romero took too long to showboat, allowing Gran to hit a big Attitude Adjustment off the top rope for the win.

Match Result: Averno, Euforia, Gran Guerrero & Ultimo Guerrero defeated The Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Hechicero & Rocky Romero)

ROH World Champion Bandido defends against Mascara Dorada

(Wow. Wow, wow, wow. I implore you to subscribe to CMLL’s YouTube channel to watch this match as soon as you can, because this was a phenomenal main event. I have been bullish on Bandido’s potential as a real top guy in the AEW universe, and this match has fully reinforced those thoughts as he looked every bit of the top guy that I believe he can be. I don’t want to discount Mascara Dorada either as he did some jaw-dropping offense in this match, including standing on Bandido’s shoulders as Bandido was stood on the top rope before dropping into a hurricanrana. He more than held up his end of this unbelievably great match. A beautiful display of lucha, and an excellent start to CMLL’s international week of events.)

This is Bandido’s second defense of his second reign as ROH World Champion.

These two tested each other’s speed, with Dorada winning the exchange. Bandido tried using some power and got Dorada in position for the 21-Plex, but Dorada fought it off before Bandido pointed his finger guns at him to show that he had Dorada in trouble. Dorada was almost in more trouble as Bandido sent him to the floor, but Dorada came back with a shotgun dropkick and a spiral dive to the champion on the floor. Dorada hit a 450 Splash in the ring for a nearfall. A headscissors sent Bandido to the apron, but Bandido slid in and hit a pop-up cutter. Dorada slid to the floor, but Bandido hit a wild Fosbury Flop to the floor before posing with the crowd.

Bandido followed up with a simply preposterous one-armed superplex for a nearfall. You could see Dorada helping him, but the idea was very cool. They traded lariats in the corner before Dorada caught Bandido with a kick. Dorada tried to outsmart Bandido by sliding to the floor, but Bandido simply dove over the post onto Dorada before hitting a Frog Splash in the ring for a nearfall. Dorada came right back, standing on Bandido’s shoulders before dropping down into a headscissors for a nearfall.

The crowd was fired up as champion and challenger traded chops that turned to slaps. They went to the apron to continue their strike battle, eventually booting each other to the floor. They got back in the ring before Dorada sent Bandido to the ramp and hit a wild spinning headscissors. Dorada sent Bandido flying with a suplex on the ramp before going up the Arena Mexico stairs and hitting a dive off of the 7- or 8-foot-tall video board.

Dorada hit a sick Fosbury Flop splash from the ramp to the ring for a nearfall as this crowd was losing their minds. Bandido rolled through a sunset flip to catch Dorada in a pinning predicament. Dorada sat himself up as Bandido kept headbutting him in the chest, but Bandido herked him over his head and dropped him with a Bastard Driver for a nearfall.

Bandido went for the fall away superplex on the ropes, but Dorada got away. He hopped on top of Bandido’s shoulders as Bandido was on the top rope, then dropped down into a hurricanrana. Dorada followed up with a Shooting Star Press for a nearfall as the crowd chanted Esto Es Lucha. Bandido caught a charging Dorada with an X-Plex before hitting the 21-Plex for a huge nearfall that I completely bought as the finish.

Dorada booted a charging Bandido and went to the top rope, but Bandido cut him off. He got to the top rope and took Dorada down with the fallaway superplex, then hit a second 21-Plex to win the match and retain his title in a spectacular main event. After the match, Dorada shook Bandido’s hand and wrapped the ROH World Title around his waist in a show of respect. Dorada and the referee raised Bandido’s hand as streamers shot off over the ring.

Match Result: ROH World Champion Bandido defeated Mascara Dorada to retain

Ring of Honor TV live results: Bandido vs. Mansoor

Tonight’s Ring of Honor on HonorClub will feature more CMLL action ahead of next week’s AEW/ROH invasion of Arena Mexico.

After appearing during a big brawl at AEW Summer Blockbuster, former ROH TV Champion Atlantis Jr. will team with Templario against Volador Jr. and Magnus.

In a Proving Ground match, ROH World Champion Bandido will take on Mansoor where if the challenger can win or draw the champion, he earns a future title shot.

ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet will return to action in her own Proving Ground bout.

The card is rounded out by Evil Uno taking on former Dark Order teammate Preston Vance, while Shane Taylor Promotions will be in eight-man action.

**********

For the 120th time, Ring of Honor streams it’s way into our collective hearts with two huge Proving Ground matches and a Supercard that’s just under a month away.

-Shane Taylor Promotions kicked things off with empassioned promo about… money in the bank? Oh, right literal money in a metaphorical bank. They are ready to start mixing things up and let the rumblin’ begin!

Magnus & Volador Jr. vs. Atlantis Jr. & Templario

Between the participants of this match there is a metric ton of Gold. Atlantis currently holds the World Historic Light Heavyweight Champion and is of course a former ROH World Television Champion. His partner Templario is one half of the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champions (with TJP as United Empire) as well as the CMLL World Middleweight Champion. Magnus is a double Tag Champion, currently holding the MLW World Tag Team Championship and the Mexican National Tag Team Champion with Rugido as Los Depredadores. And Volador Jr? Well… he’s there too.

“Lucha Libre” chants broke out as the Luchadores began to libre. Volador and Templario kicked things off at breakneck speed, swapping holds and moves. Atlantis tagged in to face off against Magnus, but caught a kick through the ropes from Volador which lead to a double team.

Atlantis was able to fight them off, sending Volador to the outside. Templario tagged in but Mangus and Volador took their time deciding who would join him in the ring. It ended up being Volador who kept up with Templario until MAgnus tagged in. Templario it an inside-out arm drag and that brought in Atlantis.

Atlantis dove onto Magnus on the outside and Templario went up to the top turnbuckle for a missile dropkick on Magnus. Magnus fought back though, setting Templario up for a 619 and then a superkick from Volador.

Atlantis jumped in and took his place getting double teamed in the corner. Volador went for a lazy cover and Templario broke it up. Magnus hit a low blow on Templario when the refs back was turned and Volador began working his ribs.

A hot tag was made to Atlantis but Magnus was heading straight for him with some rapid punches. Magnus tried to take Atlantis’ mask and almost got it off too. He then did some push ups and flexed. Really.

Atlantis found new life and hit backbreakers on Volador and Magnus. Templario delivered a split kick, sending Volador out of the ring. Atlantis went up top and hit a frog splash on Magnus to get the pin and the win for his team.

Match Result: Atlantis Jr. & Templario defeated Magnus & Volador Jr.

Super fun Luchadore match to start things off! I love these matches on ROH, because they tell a great story in the ring.

Evil Uno (w/ Alex Reynolds) vs. Preston Vance (w/ Cole Karter, Griff Garrison & Jacked Jameson)

I’ve been reading a lot of Batman comics lately and the never ending battle between the Dark Order and The Frat House kind of has me feeling like they are destined to do this forever. In this case, it’s Uno taking on Vance with everyone’s back up in tow. It also might be time for the Dark Order to get some pledges (or new D&D players, or whatever it is they do) to even up the numbers game.

PS – if you forgot that Vance was once in the Dark Order, don’t worry. So did I.

It was no surprise to see that the Code of Honor did not happen. The bell rang, and Uno took it straight to Vance, knocking him from pillar to post. Vance bailed to the outside where the half a dozen Frat House members were waiting. Uno followed him out though, standing up to all of them.

Uno threw Vance back in the ring, but as Uno was climbing up to join him, the rest of the Frat House, led by Jameson, put the boots to him. That gave Vance the upper hand and he laid some shots in on Uno. Shocking no one, every time the ref’s back was turned a Frat House member would take a shot at Uno.

Vance started pie-facing Uno which fired him up. He hit a stunner on Vance and then went for a corner splash that Vance dodged and locked in a full nelson hold. Uno began to fade, but powered out of it, delivering a huge forearm to Vance’s huge face.

Uno dropped Vance with a DDT and went for a piledriver, but Vance reversed it into a fall away slam. Vance tried a discus elbow but Uno was able to land the piledriver and throw a discus elbow of his own. He went for the cover, but the Frat House distracted the ref from making the pin.

Vance was slipped the pledge paddle and Vance clocked him with it before the ref could see to get the pin.

Match Result: Preston Vance defeated Evil Uno

After the match, the Frat House began beating down Uno and Reynolds when suddenly a returning John Silver arrived to (not really) even the odds! It was enough to send the Frat House packing though as a full strength Dark Order reconnected in the ring.

What a great match. As much as I hate the Frat House I love Evil Uno. He and Vance know each other really well and it was a great back and forth with each man getting a chance to shine. Silver’s return was great, but someone needs to teach the Frat House how to count, because there were still six of them to three of the Order.

ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet vs. Harleen Lopez in a Proving Ground match

Red Velvet is closing in on a full year as ROH Women’s TV Champion and will be in CMLL next week to take on Persephone. That’s about all you need to know. Her opponent, Lopez, clearly had a strength advantage, but Velvet hasn’t been champ this long for no reason.

Lopez laid some killer shoulder tackles onto Velvet, temporarily knocking her silly. When she recovered, Velvet went to the boxing background she’s got a pummelled Lopez in the corner. Lopez threw some elbows back at Velvet followed by a butterfly suplex.

Lopez traded strikes with Velvet until she left herself open for a Mama’s Kitchen and Velvet pinned her, dashing Lopez’ title dreams.

Match Result: Red Velvet defeated Harleen Lopez

Fun little squash, but the outcome was pretty obvious even as it was happening. Velvet is on fire and not going to be giving up that Women’s TV Title anytime soon.

-The Dark Order cut a promo in the back, with the returning John Silver talking about meat. Uno declared that the three of them are better than six of the Frat House. They laid out a trios challenge for any time, anywhere.

Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor, ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty & The Infantry) vs. Vaughn Vertigo, Martian Webb, Riley Reinhart and Joe Demaro

Shane Taylor Promotions is bringing out all it’s weapons tonight in this massive 8-man match. STP are the most dominant faction in ROH, so it’s surprising that the only title they hold is the ROH Pure Title on Moriarty’s shoulder. Time will tell if they can gather some more belts, but for now they look to make short work of Vertigo, Webb, Reinhart & Demaro, who despite sounding like a law firm, did not have much to work with.

I don’t even really know how to describe this match. It was pretty much just members of STP taggin in and out to completely destroy whichever of the other four were in the ring. It almost became comical as between the four of them, neither Vertigo, Webb, Demaro or Reinhart got any offense in.

The only actual wrestling in the match was when Moriarty was in the ring and had a decent exchange with Vertigo. Then Taylor tagged in and offered his face for a free shot from Demaro. Taylor no sold it then beat him down and went for a pin… that was actually broken up, much to Taylor’s surpsise, by glutton-for-punnishment, Webb.

Moriarty tagged in and put the Border City Stretch on Demaro and he tapped out in seconds. The end.

Match Result: Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor, ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty & The Infantry) destroyed defeated Vaughn Vertigo, Martian Webb, Riley Reinhart and Joe Demaro

I love STP, but honestly, this was one of those matches that didn’t make them look good. There was no believable way that they weren’t losing this match, which just begs the question, what was the point? I sincerely hope they find themselves with some purpose as we get closer to Supercard of Honor in July.

ROH World Champion Bandido vs. Mansoor (w/ Johnny TV, Mason Madden & Taya Valkyrie) in a Proving Ground match

It was announced last week that one of the “M’s” in MxMxTV would get a shot at a shot at Bandido’s ROH World Title. Mansoor is the M in question and he’s bringing the whole gang with him. There’s been a few Proving Ground wins lately and with Supercard of Honor a month away, could this be the beginning of the Main Event story?

Mansoor came to the ring with his crew and it looked like Madden had borrowed his boots from Valkyrie, which was neat. Bandido arrived in a cowboy hat because, well, why not?

A Tip-Touch of Honor was adhered to and the ten minute time limit began ticking down. Mansoor was actually pretty evenly matched against Bandido size wise and wrestling the champion gave him a chance to show off his speed and agility. Bandido for his part looked like he was having a lot of fun.

Bandido put Mansoor on his back and gave him the finger guns, which incensed MAdden on the outside who screamed “no guns!” Bandido set Mansoor up for the 21 Plex, but Madden pulled him out of the ring and Bandido along with him. Mansoor took advantage and threw Bandido into the stairs. Madden, TV and Valkyrie stomped him while Mansoor distracted the ref.

Back in the ring, Mansoor hit a backbreaker, softening up the back of Bandido, stretching him over his knee. Bandido powered out of it (he’s a power lifter, you see) but Mansoor drove an elbow into his back. Bandido responded with a superkick and twisting tornado dive from the top rope.

Bandido went for a suplex, but his back wouldn’t handle it. He was able to recover for a one handed press-slam though and climbed the ropes for a huge frog splash, but Mansoor kicked out at two. Bandido tried a 21 Plex again, but TV caught him and laid him out giving Mansoor a chance to hit a butterfly suplex and get a two count of his own.

Mansoor distracted the ref and Madden and TV tried to steal Bandido’s mask. The ref saw it though and ejected everyone from ringside. This was seven minutes into the match and Mansoor used the chaos to try for a moonsault. Bandido saw it though and dodged, setting Mansoor up for the 21 Plex. He nailed it this time and pinned Mansoor, 1-2-3.

Match Result: ROH World Champion Bandido defeated Mansoor

After the match, Lee Johnson came wandering down to the ring. This distracted Bandido enough that Black Christian was able to jump him from behind in the ring. He stood tall over Bandido and he and Johnson stomped him in the ring. Mascara Dorada (who will face Bandido on Tuesday in CMLL) appeared at the top of the ramp and ran down to the ring to run off the heels. He then picked up the ROH title and offered his hand to Bandido. He handed the champion his belt as the two shared mutual respect.

Very cool main event! MxMxTV are fantastic and Bandido made it look like tons of fun. The after match schmozz was cool too because I think it teased a future title match between Bandido and Christian, which is something I would very much like to see.

**********

AEW Collision opened with Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana coming down to the ring. Before Swerve could say anything, The Young Bucks came out with mics to confront him. Nick Jackson was deeply offended at the crowd booing him, and Matt Jackson said Nick was a hot head, but Swerve’s match, which was scheduled for later, was now moved up to be the opener and Swerve had to wrestle without his gear on.

Swerve Strickland defeated Blake Christian (w/ Lee Moriarty)

Swerve hit the ropes and Moriarty tripped him, allowing Christian to get a jump on him at the start of the match. Christian hit his backflipping suicide dive on Swerve, but Swerve raked the eyes of Christian and threw him into the barricade. Christian, however, drove Swerve into the ring post and continued his short heat segment. Christian tried to hit a spear on the apron to Strickland, but he caught Christian and placed him on middle ropes before hitting aneckbreaker as Christian was draped between the ropes. That was a really cool spot.
Swerve rolled out of the way of 450 splash and popped up, hitting a House Call that immediately ceased all of Christian’s offence. Swerve hit a JML Driver for the pinfall.

Lee Moriarty attacked Swerve after the bell, but Swerve fought him off. However, the Young Bucks ran in and hit the EVP Trigger, leaving Swerve laid out as Nick Jackson did a dance to mock Swerve and Prince Nana. The Bucks went for the Meltzer Driver on Swerve, but Kenny Omega ran down to make the save. The Bucks immediately started stomping him but Omega managed to hit a snap dragon suplex on Nick Jackson, but before he could hit V-Trigger, the Matt Jackson pulled Nick from the ring. AEW then announced Mark Briscoe, Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight, and Kenny Omega against Kazuchika Okada, Ricochet, and The Young Bucks for Dynamite next Wednesday. That match is going to rule.

–Samoa Joe talked about Jon Moxley in a backstage promo, saying Moxley was not unpredictable. He was always looking to create chaos, but Samoa Joe was not someone that would be bothered by it, and he was coming for Moxley. This promo was awesome. Samoa Joe is still one of the best promos in the business.

Toni Storm (w/ Luther) defeated Queen Aminata

Aminata overwhelmed Storm in the early part of the match, but Storm was able to hit a shoulder tackle and a basement dropkick. The fans did not believe Aminata could win, so this hurt the heat a bit, but the fans sung Storm’s theme throughout, so at least there was that. Storm ended up with a bloody nose, and Aminata knocked Storm to the floor. Aminata has a lot of potential and is improving a lot, but she does need to work a little bit on being less stiff.

Aminata and Storm exchanged… hip attacks? Posterior battles? Either way, they started hitting each other that way are some snapmares. Aminata locked in a submission attempt, but Storm leaned back for a 2-count, and then both women hit headbutts and dropped to the mat. Storm hit a Thesz Press and several punches and forearms on Aminata, hitting a few heavy shots before hitting a DDT and locked on a STF. Nigel claimed that Toni taught the move to Lou Thesz.

Aminata hit a facewash kick in the corner, sending Storm to the floor. Storm hit a drop toe hold on Aminata into a chair, but Aminata dodged the hip attack against the guardrail. Storm hit a flying body press for a 2-count, but Aminata kicked out and powered Storm up into a Beach Break for a 2-count. Storm hit a chokebomb for a 2-count, and went for Storm Zero, but Aminata cradled Storm then hit a twist and shout. Aminata missed a splash, ate a German suplex, and hit her running hip attack and a Storm Zero for the pinfall. This turned into a really good match, and the crowd got into it the harder and harder the women worked. Props to them, as this ended up being very good by the end.

–Jeff Jarrett and his crew showed up, and they were questioning where Sonjay Dutt has been of late. Dutt showed up, and they dismissed Lexy Nair. Jarrett pointed out that he wanted AEW gold in 2025, and that Sonjay was supposed to help them get there as their manager (I think?), and Jarrett said he was listening to the wrong voices. Lethal agreed, and Jarrett, Karen Jarrett, Satnam Singh, and Lethal all left Sonjay Dutt looking said. I really have no idea what was going on in this, and had no idea Dutt was gone or not around them. Was this something that was happening in ROH? Or was it just something that happened now? Either way, I feel like we missed at least a week or two of storytelling here.

–Max Caster was in the ring, and apparently he is just continuing his gimmick after losing to Anthony Bowens. Tony Schiavone expressed disgust when a sign said, “Let’s go Max, you’re the best wrestler alive!” which the highlight of this segment. Caster accused the streets of smelling like horse urine, and a guy in the front row nodded, knowingly. That was hilarious.

Hologram defeated Max Caster

Caster tried to attack, but Hologram hit a Spanish Fly and then a tope suicida headbutt and a portal bomb for the 3-count. The crowd was really into Hologram in this match, popping big for his moves. Come on, Tony, it’s time to do something with this guy, even an ROH title.

–A recap video aired of Master P on Dynamite, and he was interviewed backstage by Renee Paquette and he talked about his charity work and how he was not impressed by the Death Riders attacking from behind. This was a nice segment, especially for promoting the charity.

Cru (Action Andretti & Leo Rush) defeated Top Flight (Darius & Dante Martin) (w/ Leila Grey) in a Tornado Tag Match

Cru grabbed kendo sticks from under the ring to start an attack on Top Flight, but Top Flight stepped on them and took them away. Cru refused to get in the ring, so Top Flight put them down, baited them in, and immediately started hitting a series of double team moves on Andretti and Rush. Andretti chased Grey around the ring, and Rush managed to hit a dive on Darius Martin as he was distracted by Andretti. Cru put a garbage can over the head of Darius Martin and hit it with kendo sticks, before choking Darius Martin with the stick.

Cru beat down on both Martin brothers for the next few minutes. The match came back from the ad break as Dante Martin hit a garbage can lid on Andretti and then Lio Rush, as they started their comeback. The fans were chanting for tables, but Dante Martin grabbed a black bag of something from under the ring, and the fans booed. Just grab the table, man, then grab the bag. Lio Rush hit a stunner on Darius Martin and Andretti picked up the bag and it was filled with Mardi Gras beads, which actually popped the crowd. Dante Martin slammed Rush on the beads for a two count,.

Rush hit a drop toe hold on Darius Martin onto a chair, and Andretti followed with a dropkick. Cru suplexed Darius Martin on the chair that was setup, which looked absolutely brutal as the chair shot out from under Martin and across the ring. Leila Grey tried to stop Cru from hitting Top Flight, but she got knocked off the apron the process, with Rush then hitting a frog splash on Darius Martin, followed by a 450 Splash from Andretti for the win. This was a fun match.

Anna Jay defeated Taylor Gainey

Anna Jay hit a hook kick on Gainey, followed by a hard forearm in the corner and a spinning kick. Jay hit the Gory Bomb for the win very quickly.

Penelope Ford came down to the ring, and it seems Anna Jay will be facing Ford and Bayne for a little while, at least on TV. Bayne’s music hit, and Jay looked away, leading to Ford attacking and brawling with Jay as Bayne slowly came down to the ring. Ford held Jay in the ring so Bayne could hit a F5, leaving Jay laid out.

–A hype video aired for Mercedes Moné and Jamie Hayter for the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament. This was very good.

Bandido defeated Dralistico to retain the ROH World Championship

Dralistico flipped of the fans when they wouldn’t cheer him, and he rolled to the floor to yell at the fans and threaten to leave. Given that this is a world title match, that is not very wise. Bandido tried to honour the Code of Honor, but Dralistico refused. Bandido and Dralistico went to it with some awesome lucha to open the match, exchanging some very fast paced offence. Both men exchanged hard chops on the apron before Dralistico hit a hurricanrana to the floor on Bandido.

Dralistico did his Los Ingobernables pose, and the crowd popped. As they came back from an ad break, Bandido hit a tope suicida on Dralistico before went back into the ring and hit a Fosbury Flop and the crowd roared in approval. Bandido hit a frog splash for a two count. After an exchange, Bandido hit a kick and both men were down. Dralistico hit a code breaker off the middle rope to Bandido for a two count. Bandido managed to counter a corner charge, and then hit the 21-Plex on Dralistico for the 3-count. Good match.

–The Learning Tree was backstage, and Big Bill & Bryan Keith were talking about how they needed to start beating people up and winning for their own benefit, and not just to please Chris Jericho. They called out the Gates of Agony, saying that they were offering to let them try to make a name for themselves against the Learning Tree. This was a good promo. Simple, to the point, and sets up a match for Dynamite.

Rush defeated AR Fox

Fox got a brief moment of offence in this one, hitting a dive over the top rope, but soon defeated fox with the corner dropkick for the win.

–RPG Vice were backstage, and Trent Beretta and Rockey Romero were insulted because people were calling them underrated. Romero said he was tired of the disrespect he has faced, including not being on the Conglomeration T-shirt, and they attacked and laid out the Outrunners. Good segment here too.

–Kyle Fletcher was featured in a promo video, talking about how he wasn’t sure what was more important – winning the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, or stopping Will Ospreay from winning. Fletcher promised to make Hangman choke and lose, and Hangman said he was going to violently fight Fletcher in a way that he has never felt before, and that he needed to win the tournament so he could get the title back. AEW is keenly aware that the long term story needs to be Hangman chasing the world title, but might have Ospreay win it first. Either way, we are in for a great match with Hangman and Fletcher, and a great finals is either faces Ospreay.

The Paragon (Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly) defeated FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) (w/ Stokely Hathaway)

Strong and O’Reilly spend the start of the match isolating FTR, sending them to the floor. FTR started arguing with the announcers, and Nigel McGuinness told them off for losing their focus, and said they needed to focus on the match in the ring, as he tried to maintain being unbiased, as they are clearly starting to get under his skin. I really like this aspect of the story, as Nigel is a tremendous wrestler, and two heels going after him is intriguing, especially as he is usually the heel announcer.

FTR performed an illegal tag, not holding onto the ring rope, and Harwood complained to the referee, but this only opened Wheeler to get his hands stepped on repeatedly by O’Reilly. When they came back from the break, FTR was finally able to get some offence in, throwing O’Reilly into the ring steps while beating down Strong nearby. Harwood hit a slingshot suplex on O’Reilly for a two count, calling back to Tully Blanchard. O’Reilly broke away and went for a tag, but Strong was still on the floor. Wheeler went for a bulldog but quickly switched direction and hit a lariat on and dropped O’Reilly.

O’Reilly hit a kitchen sink as Wheeler hit the ropes and tried to tag out again, but Strong was still on the floor. O’Reilly steeled himself, and hit a leg sweep on Wheeler and hard kicks on both members of FTR and both Harwood and O’Reilly went down after a double clothesline. O’Reilly went for a tag again, but Wheeler had rolled to the floor and dropped Strong on the stairs knee first, keeping him down again. O’Reilly went for a guillotine choke on Wheeler, but Harwood hit an axe handle to break the submission.

FTR continued to isolate O’Reilly, as Strong stood up again, but got thrown into the barricade by Harwood, while O’Reilly was catapulted into the bottom rope by Wheeler. O’Reilly finally managed to tag Strong in, who continued to sell his leg with every move he did, making a comeback on one leg. Strong couldn’t run from teh corner at one point, so he just turned around and went back to punches. As he came back again, Harwood grabbed him and went for a cover with his feet on the ropes.

Tony Schiavone was disgusted with Stokley Hathaway cheering FTR, calling him one of the worst human beings he knows, which was great. Harwood did a figure four around the ring post on Strong, breaking before the 5 count, but continuing to work the knee of Strong. Harwood locked on the figure four leglock in the ring, this time going for the official submission. O’Reilly came in with a flying basement dropkick to Harwood to break the hold before hitting a plancha to the floor on Wheeler. Strong tagged out to O’Reilly, who started kick and brawling with Harwood.

O’Reilly shot on Harwood and took him down into a leglock, but Wheeler broke it up with a big splash on O’Reilly. Harwood went for a piledriver, and FTR succeeded in the spike piledriver on O’Reilly for the win. What a fantastic tag match. That was a tremendous main event match and about as good as a tag team match you will see this week, if it wasn’t for the Young Bucks and Knight & Ospreay on Dynamite.

Adam Cole came down to check on his friends, and was about to be taken out by FTR and Hathaway, but Daniel Garcia ran down with a crowbar to chase the heels off to close the show. Good main event, and good closing angle that continues to build this feud with FTR and Paragon/Garcia. Daniel Garcia called out FTR, saying they couldn’t finish the job against him. Garcia said that no matter how long it took, he was going after them each week until he made them pay. Good promo.

Final Thoughts

A good, if uneventful, AEW Collision, with some stories advancing slowly, and an awesome tag team main match in the main event. This was definitely a thumbs up show, and I like the stories they are developing slowly as they move towards Double or Nothing and All In.

Ring of Honor TV results: Bandido vs. Jay Lethal title eliminator

Days after kicking off his second Ring of Honor World title reign, Bandido will put a future title shot on the line as part of tonight’s HonorClub streaming show.

Bandido will face former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal in a Proving Ground match where if the challenger can draw or defeat the champion, a future shot is his. While they have shared the ring plenty through the years, this will be their first ever singles match.

For the first time since last September, ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & the Von Erichs will be in action against Violence is Forever and Davey Bang.

NJPW’s Tomohiro Ishii will make his return to the black and red brand to challenge Preston Vance.

After returning to action recently, Marina Shafir will look get on the winning track tonight against Nixi XS.

MxM Collection and Johnny TV will reunite for a trios bout against Drake Daniels, Jordan Kross & Ryan Matthews.

**********

A brand new ROH World Champion, a pair of high-profile six-man tag matches and the return of a certain problem are all backed tightly into ROH on Honorclub episode 111!

(Also, Preston Vance will be there).

Johnny TV & MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) (w/ Taya Valkyrie) defeated Drake Daniels, Jordan Kross & Ryan Matthews

Johnny TV, Mansoor and Madden are a match made in gorgeous heaven. So, I’ll be calling their Trios Team MxMxTV. A while back, Madden and Mansoor stole a championship belt from Dustin Rhodes, tonight carried to the ring by Taya Valkyrie. So that makes MxMxTV 1/3rd of the Six-Man belt holders. Or something like that. Daniels, Cross and Matthews (who sound like a 1970’s folk trio) were all making their ROH debuts in this match.

TV and Kross kicked things off like anyone would: by engaging in a dance battle (TV won). He used that advantage to deliver some really devastating knees to the face of Kross. Mansoor and Madden isolated Kross in the corner and doubled teamed him with various pose-based offense. Matthews tried to help, but it did not work.

While Valkyrie and TV made out over the title belt at ringside, Daniels entered the match and was immediately destroyed by the much, much bigger Madden. Kross and Matthews were easily dispatched while TV, Madden and Mansoor hit a three-way Centerfold and posed with the beaten Daniels.

Match Result: Johnny TV & MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) (w/ Taya Valkyrie) defeated Drake Daniels, Jordan Kross & Ryan Matthews

Marina Shafir defeated Nixi XS

Shafir was back in ROH after spending some time hanging out with Voldemort’s forces in AEW. …What? …Death RIDERS? Oh, that’s totally different. Either way, she’s back and ready to face off against XS in her ROH debut.

XS looked straight out of an episode of GLOW, which was a great juxtaposition to the more straight forward look and style of Shafir. Shafir used the Code of Honor to whip XS around in a series of Judo throws. XS had a very, very expressive face, so she was able to really sell Shafir’s offense. Shafir on the other hand, no-sold everything that XS threw at her. One Mother’s Milk submission later and XS was tapping out.

Match Result: Marina Shafir defeated Nixi XS

-Backstage the ROH Trios Champions (with all three belts?) cut a promo. The Von Erichs talked about how it made them mad that MxM stole Rhode’s title belt. Rhodes called MxM stupid. Yes, Stupid. Rhodes then issued a challenge to MxMxTV to show up next week so he could take his belt back.

Tomohiro Ishii defeated Preston Vance (w/ Jacked Jameson)

Vance, Jameson and their Frat House compadres Griff Garrison and Cole Karter have been running around being professionally obnoxious in ROH for a few weeks now. Their very presence makes me seethe with rage (which means they are very good at their jobs. And being jerks. Their job is to be jerks), so it’s with great pleasure that everyone welcomed Ishii back to ROH to smash, cook up and eat  at least one member of the Frat House.

Vance tied up with Ishii and even though he had about a foot on him in height, Ishii has the density of a dying sun and was able to shrug off just about everything Vance threw at him. Vance tried to turn up the speed of the match, but Ishii ended up being grabbed by Jameson and pulled out of the ring.

Jameson gave Ishii a few shots while Vance distracted the Ref and tossed him back into the ring. Vance hit Ishii in the back of the head and delivered a suplex which seemed to enrage Ishii who began growing with every elbow Vance threw at his head.

The match devolved into the two of them just punching each other until Ishii caught Vance with a side slam. Vance ran the ropes and brought down Ishii with a football-style tackle. He tried for a discus lariat, but Ishii avoided it and clotheslined Vance.

Jameson jumped up on the ring apron (the highest part of the ring!) and tried to cause a distraction, but Ishii knocked him off and he and Vance traded strikes until Ishii landed a big head butt followed by a brainbuster to pick up the victory.

After the match, Ishii called out Jameson, who claimed that he had a “broken nose” so he couldn’t fight. Sure.

Match Result: Tomohiro Ishii defeated Preston Vance (w/ Jacked Jameson)

-An interview with Bandido aired from backstage at AEW Dynasty. He’s very excited to be ROH World Champion and was grateful to God to be there with his family. He declared his mom “the real champ” for her support. Then he challenged her to a Ladder match for the belt. OK, that didn’t happen, but I’d watch it. Just saying.

ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs (Marshall & Ross) defeated Davey Bang, Dominic Garrini & Kevin Ku in a non-title match

It’s the return of Texas’ favorite (grand)sons to team up with one half of the Sons of Texas! Marshall and Ross Von Erich have been on the shelf due to injury since February and their return couldn’t have come at a better time, as MxM just stole Rhodes’ Championship title belt, which we dealt with earlier. Their opponents tonight Bang, Garrini and Ku were all last seen in ROH in 2023 with a collective 0-5 record between them.

Rhodes and one of the other guys kicked things off and Rhodes made him look good. At this point, I need to note that the commentary team was absolutely terrible this week regarding who was in the ring with the better known wrestlers. It was like they didn’t know who was who and shared that lack of knowledge with the audience.

Anyways, (I think) Bang and Garrini tried to isolate Ross in the corner with a double team. Garrini tried to do the same with Ku, but that allowed Ross to get the tag to Marshall who cleaned house. When the dust settled, it was Marshall and Ku, with Ross and Rhodes keeping the other two at bay.

Bang tried to go up top, but ended up jumping right into an Iron Claw from Marshall. Marshall transitioned it into a front slam and got the pin to pick up the victory for his team.

Match Result: Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs (Marshall & Ross) defeated Davey Bang, Dominic Garrini & Kevin Ku

-Backstage, Taya Valkyrie cut a promo about how she has the opportunity to take on Red Velvet and get a shot at the ROH Women’s TV title. The one thing stopping her is La Catalina, who Valkyrie claims copied her by coming to ROH via Mexico. The two will face off next week, with the winner getting a shot at Red Velvet’s ROH Women’s Television championship.

ROH World Champion Bandido defeated Jay Lethal in a Proving Ground match

Bandido defeated Chris Jericho (not an ROH Wrestler) at AEW Dynasty (not an ROH Show) to become the ROH World Champion for the second time. Unlike his predecessor, this ROH World Champion actually appears on the show and got right down to business here with a Proving Ground match against one of the legends of ROH, a former ROH World, Pure, Television and Tag Team Champion, Jay Lethal. If Lethal scored a victory or lasted to the 10 minute time limit, he’d be slingshotted right into challenging for Bandido’s not-even-cold-yet title. (No word on if Bandido’s Mom will be there).

The two locked up and almost immediately the action left the ring. Lethal landed a running dive through the ropes, knocking Bandido almost back up the ramp, before tossing him back into the ring. Lethal tried to get a figure four on, but Bandido reversed it into a small package for a two count.

Lethal and Bandido then traded chops with Lethal having the advantage because he has “calloused hands from years of weightlifting” according to Ian Riccabonni. Lethal spun Bandido around with a bit lariat and tried for another figure four, which Bandido reversed into another small package, and got another two count.

Third time was the charm though as Lethal got a figure four on Bandido in the center of the ring. Bandido wormed his way to the ropes though and Lethal broke the hold, but continued working the knee of the Champion.

Lethal went for a Lethal Injection, but Bandido caught him midair and threw him to the ropes. The Champion then hit a 21 plex and picked up the win over Lethal. After the match, Lethal shook Bandido’s hand, showing respect to the new Champion.

Match Result: Bandido defeated Jay Lethal

And that does it for Episode 111. Next week: Taya Valkyrie vs La Catalina.

AEW Dynasty media scrum notes: Tony Khan on show’s ending, Bandido/Jericho

Tony Khan spoke to the media following AEW Dynasty.

Khan, Toni Storm, the returning Anthony Bowens, and new TNT Champion Adam Cole took questions from the media following Sunday’s event in Philadelphia. Here are the highlights:

Toni Storm

  • Storm said she was invited to appear on the red carpet for the upcoming TCM Film Festival on April 24th.
  • She said she would be at this Wednesday’s Dynamite to address the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament participants.

Anthony Bowens

  • Bowens said Caster needs to do everyone a favor and “burn his boots,” saying he can go on being the worst rapper alive.
  • Asked about his return after being gone several months, Bowens said he was nervous until he heard the crowd’s reaction, saying it’s something he’ll never forget.
  • One of his goals is to be AEW’s first gay singles champion.
  • He talked about his “Five Tool Player” nickname, saying it was a baseball term that he used prior to joining AEW.
  • He thought his gear team “knocked it out of the park” with his ring gear.

Adam Cole

  • He said winning the TNT Championship was one of the top moments of his career, mentioning how tough the last few years were with his various injuries. He said it was very special and he’d never forget it.
  • During his segment, Tony Khan said that Adam Cole is here with AEW for life, even if he can’t wrestle.
  • Cole also said that his family were in attendance tonight.

Tony Khan

  • The first question was regarding his most humbling experience running a wrestling promotion. He mentioned two: the deaths of both Brodie Lee and Jay Briscoe.
  • One person had a question about ending the show on a down note, asking if he’s ever considered calling an audible whenever fans get upset. Khan said he does take it into consideration, and while there were a lot of great moments for fans at Dynasty, obviously the outcome of the main event was not what people hoped for. He does think that the return of the Young Bucks brings intrigue, and fans were behind Swerve Strickland more than ever before.
  • He also said Moxley was one of the most important people in AEW dating back to the promotion’s existence. Khan said Moxley had done good things for the company recently, pointing to his street fight with Adam Copeland doing some of the highest ratings dating back to November.
  • Khan said he was interested in running the ECW Arena, or as he called it, the 2300 Arena.
  • He was asked about the issues regarding the Bandido/Chris Jericho match that came up during the week and how it wasn’t officially confirmed until Saturday. He said a lot of things were happening this weekend regarding getting the right people needed for the segment. He said he thought some of the speculation during the week was ridiculous.
  • Khan revealed that there were originally pay-per-views scheduled for Philadelphia until the pandemic hit.

Bandido keeps mask, wins ROH World title at AEW Dynasty

A new ROH Champion was crowned at AEW Dynasty.

Bandido defeated Chris Jericho to win the championship for a second time. The finish originally had Jericho pinning Bandido after striking him with a bat as Bryan Keith distracted the referee. Per the stipulations of the match, Bandido would have to unmask.

As fans reacted to the shock finish, Bandido’s mother and sister at ringside alerted referee Aubrey Edwards about the bat, which was hidden in the steel steps nearby. Edwards identified the bat and immediately restarted the match. As Jericho reacted to the news, Bandido struck Jericho with the twenty-one plex and pinned him to win the championship.

Bandido celebrated with his family inside the ring as a despondent Jericho retreated to the back.

After Jericho initially defeated Bandido to retain the ROH World title in February, he continued to target Bandido and his family by attacking his brother Gravity and stealing his mask. After weeks of taunting, Bandido was able to get the mask back from Jericho on an episode of Collision after laying him out with a punch and snatching it before Big Bill or Bryan Keith could intervene.

Tony Khan AEW media call notes: Bandido, Sting & Lex Luger, spiked bat spot, Max viewership

Ahead of this Sunday’s AEW Dynasty pay-per-view in Philadelphia, AEW head Tony Khan held his usual pre-PPV media call was asked and answered questions about the Bandido/Chris Jericho match, Sting and the WWE Hall of Fame, the Max viewership report and more.

The full audio from the call can be heard below.

Bandido vs. Chris Jericho

Khan was asked if the match was off for Sunday since it’s disappeared from the website and wasn’t mentioned during the Dynamite rundown. Khan said there’s still one more TV show to go before Dynasty, but also said Bandido never formally accepted the mask vs. title challenge. He said he never confirmed the match for “good reasons” and then mentioned a reason being “the availability of Bandido to do the match and have the match play out safely for him and for us” which he didn’t clarify what that meant.

Sting and the WWE Hall of Fame

Asked about the potential of Sting inducting Lex Luger into the WWE Hall of Fame, Khan said he caught up with Sting in March but that topic didn’t come up and still hasn’t.

Max viewership

Khan didn’t deny anything written in the much-discussed BJ Bethel report this week about AEW viewership numbers on Max, but said he still he doesn’t get weekly reports like he does from Nielsen. He said he was excited about that report and that he does know AEW is one of the top sports events on Max week in and out, but not much else.

Moxley, Cope and Spike

Asked about some of the negative blowback online to the spiked bat to the back spot in the Jon Moxley vs. Cope match recently, Khan said it was a “hardcore moment,” put over how tough both guys were, and noted Moxley was able to wrestle this week. Khan overall didn’t sound like he put much weight in the negative comments.

Mask vs. title challenge, AEW Trios title defense both set for AEW Dynasty

Image: AEW

With less than two weeks to go, next month’s AEW Dynasty card is starting to round into shape after two title challenges that were made Wednesday.

During Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, reigning Ring of Honor World Champion Chris Jericho offered to put his title on the line against former champion and recent rival Bandido in a title vs. mask match. Bandido wasn’t on the show to accept.

Jericho, fuming after Bandido took his brother Gravity’s mask back last Sunday at Collision, made the challenge and questioned whether it was worth it for Bandido to see his mother cry like she did at Revolution and to suffer the humiliation of being unmasked.

The two squared off on the February 22nd Collision with Jericho successfully defending the title. Bandido has put Jericho in his crosshairs since returning last December after a long injury absence.

**********

AEW Trios Champions Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta & PAC of the Death Riders will defend their titles against Rated FTR of Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler and Cope.

Cope issued the challenge during a pre-taped sitdown interview with FTR and Tony Schiavone. Harwood addressed his actions from last week where he walked away from Cope and Wheeler, apologizing and seemingly getting on the same page again. Wheeler said he wanted the Trios titles and Cope then made the challenge.

The champions later accepted with PAC saying they challenged them to survive them at Dynasty. When Cope returned from injury in late-December, he targeted the Death Riders and recently went 0-2 in AEW World title challenges of faction leader Jon Moxley. Yuta will face Harwood this Saturday on Collision.

Here’s the updated lineup for Sunday, April 6th in Philadelphia, PA:

  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Megan Bayne
  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Swerve Strickland
  • AEW International Champion Kenny Omega defends against Ricochet and Mike Bailey in a three-way
  • AEW Trios Champions Death Riders (Wheeler Yuta, PAC & Claudio Castagnoli) defend against Rated FTR (Cope, Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler)
  • ROH World Champion Chris Jericho defends against Bandido in a title vs. mask match*
