AEW Dynasty 2025 Dave Meltzer Star Ratings: Review of the event

AEW Dynasty 2025 took place last weekend (Sunday April 6 2025), and now that F4W’s own Dave Meltzer has released the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, we now know what his star ratings are for the matches that took place.

AEW Dynasty Ratings

Here are all of the star ratings that Dave gave the matches at the AEW Dynasty 2025 event:

Dynasty Pre-Show

  • Nick Wayne, Action Andretti & Lio Rush vs AR Fox & Top Flight: ****1/4
  • Anthony Bowens vs. Max Caster (No rating given)

AEW Dynasty Main Show Ratings

  • Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight – Owen Hart Cup: ****1/2
  • The Hurt Syndicate (c) vs. The Learning Tree – World Tag Team Titles: **1/2
  • Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart – Owen Hart Cup: **1/2
  • Death Riders (c) vs. Rated FTR – World Trios Titles: ****1/2
  • “Timeless” Toni Storm (c) vs. Megan Bayne – Women’s World Title: ****
  • Kyle Fletcher vs. Mark Briscoe – Owen Hart Cup: ****3/4
  • Bandido vs. Chris Jericho (c) – ROH World Title: ***1/4
  • Adam Cole vs. Daniel Garcia (c) – TNT Title: ***1/4
  • Kenny Omega (c) vs. Ricochet vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey – International Title: ****3/4
  • Jon Moxley (c) vs. Swerve Strickland: ***3/4

What was the highest rated match of the night at AEW Dynasty?

The highest rated match of the night by Dave was actually a tie, with the Owen Hart Cup match between Kyle Fletcher and Mark Briscoe getting ****3/4 as well as the International Title match between Kenny Omega, Ricochet and Mike Bailey getting a ****3/4.

What was the worst match at AEW Dynasty?

In Dave’s opinion, the “worst” match at AEW Dynasty 2025 was again a tie, with Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart and The Hurt Syndicate (c) vs. The Learning Tree both getting **1/2, which is still 2.5/5 so not a horrific rating.

Booker T on Swerve Strickland’s AEW Dynasty promo: ‘I’m not even going to get upset about it’

Booker T has responded to Swerve Strickland’s comments following AEW Dynasty.

On his podcast, Booker T said that he wasn’t upset about Strickland saying “F*** Booker T” during a promo that took place after Dynasty went off the air. But he did say that he didn’t think Tony Khan appreciated his statements.

“I’m not even going to get upset about it. I’m going to give Swerve Strickland a little bit of advice…that advice would be don’t be talking about something other than the pay-per-view at the end of the night. That’s the main event and the last thing people are going to remember….I’m sure Tony Khan don’t appreciate the news, the headline not being what happened at Dynasty with all the matches…they’re talking about Booker T. That was a bad move.”

Booker T further said that he had felt the dispute was over, and didn’t expect to see himself trending on social media Monday morning.

“People like Swerve, we come from a different cloth, a totally different cloth. I wish nothing but the best for this dude, man,” he later added. “I want to see him succeed. Would I ever say anything positive about him ever again? Probably not. Would I ever put him over as far as being a good worker and someone who could perhaps transform this business? I probably would never ever do that again. Because I learned my lesson.”

Strickland and Booker T have traded words for the last year after Strickland was critical of WWE’s treatment of Black wrestlers, with Strickland arguing that the company doesn’t market them fairly. Booker T on his podcast argued otherwise.

On a recent episode of VladTV, Strickland responded by saying that Booker T wasn’t treated fairly when Vince McMahon used a racial slur in front of him at Survivor Series 2005. Booker T responded by accusing DJ Vlad of pitting the two against one another, saying he had turned down an offer to be on Vlad’s show. Vlad later denied those allegations.

AEW Dynasty review: Matthew & Nicholas ruin everything

Those darn Young Bucks are back.

The main event of Dynasty saw Jon Moxley manage to walk away with the AEW Championship briefcase yet again. This time, it was thanks to the returning EVPs The Young Bucks, who laid out Swerve Strickland with the EVP trigger allowing Moxley to cover him for the win.

Unlike last month, this main event was pretty damn good, capping off another strong pay-per-view for AEW. It wasn’t brutal so much as it was gritty. There was a bit of blood, but it wasn’t a complete bloodbath like you would see in some Swerve matches. To their credit the crowd, who at that point had been watching wrestling for at least five hours, got into this match strongly especially after The Ops came out and chased away the Death Riders, realizing that for once, hey, someone may actually beat Moxley. Then the finish went down.

I get that this wasn’t a particularly well-recieved finish, and I would have loved to see Strickland emerge as champion. I would also love it if every Jon Moxley match didn’t end with House of Torture nonsense that I feel is infiltrating every wrestling promotion now. But I also understand that the long-term planning is for All In, AEW’s biggest show of the year. Moxley will very likely be champion heading into July. So for right now, the focus is on Moxley doing his shtick while the Owen Hart tournament unfolds.

This was a very long show and I think this is a good time to vent about AEW’s “for the sickos” booking. Look, I like AEW. I don’t make a living criticising them for the YouTube algorithm, this was a good show. Dynamite and Collision most weeks are fine, even good! But there are many times where I feel like they ask for too much of my time. They just announced a FOUR HOUR television block for June 4. They’re running 5 1/2 hour pay-per-views, and that isn’t including the 90 minute pre-show and the post-show where I’m hearing questions like “what is your favorite chicken wing” and “what is your Waffle House order” at 10 pm PST. I have a life, AEW. Please let me live it on days when you have shows.

The rest of the very long show. Which, for the record, was good!:

  • The best match on the show was Kenny Omega retaining the International title over Speedball Mike Bailey and Ricochet. These three went out there and busted their butts to have an excellent match. A ton of cool dives and innovative moves, ending when Omega pinned Ricochet with a One Winged Angel off the turnbuckle. This was also an excellent showcase for Bailey, who looked like a million bucks, though I have to question how his knees are doing after smashing them on the apron.
  • The Hurt Business retained their titles, defeating Big Bill and Bryan Keith. There was never a moment where I thought the challengers would win, and they didn’t. The key to this match was building towards whatever’s going on between MJF and the rest of the Hurt Business, attacking Bill in the crowd during a moment on the outside. Match itself was fine.
  • Adam Cole won the TNT title, defeating Daniel Garcia in a pretty good match, at least on a technical level. The crowd didn’t seem to care about the match or Cole’s title win. I’ve liked their series of matches in the last couple of weeks, but for whatever reason the crowd just wasn’t into them.
  • Bandido and Chris Jericho had a good match, with Bandido winning the ROH World title for a second time. I don’t know if I liked the false finish with Jericho pinning Bandido with the bat, but it did get reversed and we got a nice ending with Bandido celebrating with his family. It’s nice to have happy moments with family so everything worked out in the end.
  • Kyle Fletcher defeated Mark Briscoe in what I think was the second best match on the show. These two had a fantastic match on a recent episode of Collision and they followed that with this match, which was also excellent and very hard-hitting at times. Mark Briscoe is at a point in his career where he’ll be over no matter what as he’s such an engaging personality and always goes out there and delivers. Fletcher is someone special and should win the tournament, but I don’t feel like he will.
  • Death Riders kept their Trios titles, defeating Rated FTR. The match was pretty solid, but it will be remembered more for the post-match attack that saw both Cash and Dax attack Cope, giving him stuff piledrivers onto chairs and conchairtos, putting him out of action probably until All In. I wonder if they’re reuniting Cope with Christian, and after all of these years of Christian being a mega heel, how does he end up reuniting with Cope?
  • Timeless Toni Storm managed to walk away as the AEW Women’s Champion in a pretty good match, defeating Megan Bayne with a cradle. Whoever structured the match did a great job as I thought the strongest points of the match were Bayne looking like a monster kicking out of Storm’s strongest offense.
  • Mercedes Mone continued her streak of great matches by defeating Julia Hart. This didn’t start off hot, but by the final few minutes it was really great thanks to the crowd, who got super into the match, particularly for Hart. If Mone and Athena isn’t the All In match, I wonder if Mone is winning this and challenging Storm.
  • Will Ospreay opened the show by defeating Kevin Knight. I wish Knight didn’t take so many losses early in his AEW career as I think he’s a talented guy that they should take time getting over. But considering the kind of matches he’s had in the last couple of weeks, I think he’ll be fine. I wonder if this is the year that Ospreay wins the Owen and challenges Moxley, because if it’s anyone’s time to be the top babyface in the company, it’s either Ospreay or Strickland.

AEW Dynasty media scrum notes: Tony Khan on show’s ending, Bandido/Jericho

Tony Khan spoke to the media following AEW Dynasty.

Khan, Toni Storm, the returning Anthony Bowens, and new TNT Champion Adam Cole took questions from the media following Sunday’s event in Philadelphia. Here are the highlights:

Toni Storm

  • Storm said she was invited to appear on the red carpet for the upcoming TCM Film Festival on April 24th.
  • She said she would be at this Wednesday’s Dynamite to address the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament participants.

Anthony Bowens

  • Bowens said Caster needs to do everyone a favor and “burn his boots,” saying he can go on being the worst rapper alive.
  • Asked about his return after being gone several months, Bowens said he was nervous until he heard the crowd’s reaction, saying it’s something he’ll never forget.
  • One of his goals is to be AEW’s first gay singles champion.
  • He talked about his “Five Tool Player” nickname, saying it was a baseball term that he used prior to joining AEW.
  • He thought his gear team “knocked it out of the park” with his ring gear.

Adam Cole

  • He said winning the TNT Championship was one of the top moments of his career, mentioning how tough the last few years were with his various injuries. He said it was very special and he’d never forget it.
  • During his segment, Tony Khan said that Adam Cole is here with AEW for life, even if he can’t wrestle.
  • Cole also said that his family were in attendance tonight.

Tony Khan

  • The first question was regarding his most humbling experience running a wrestling promotion. He mentioned two: the deaths of both Brodie Lee and Jay Briscoe.
  • One person had a question about ending the show on a down note, asking if he’s ever considered calling an audible whenever fans get upset. Khan said he does take it into consideration, and while there were a lot of great moments for fans at Dynasty, obviously the outcome of the main event was not what people hoped for. He does think that the return of the Young Bucks brings intrigue, and fans were behind Swerve Strickland more than ever before.
  • He also said Moxley was one of the most important people in AEW dating back to the promotion’s existence. Khan said Moxley had done good things for the company recently, pointing to his street fight with Adam Copeland doing some of the highest ratings dating back to November.
  • Khan said he was interested in running the ECW Arena, or as he called it, the 2300 Arena.
  • He was asked about the issues regarding the Bandido/Chris Jericho match that came up during the week and how it wasn’t officially confirmed until Saturday. He said a lot of things were happening this weekend regarding getting the right people needed for the segment. He said he thought some of the speculation during the week was ridiculous.
  • Khan revealed that there were originally pay-per-views scheduled for Philadelphia until the pandemic hit.

Bandido keeps mask, wins ROH World title at AEW Dynasty

A new ROH Champion was crowned at AEW Dynasty.

Bandido defeated Chris Jericho to win the championship for a second time. The finish originally had Jericho pinning Bandido after striking him with a bat as Bryan Keith distracted the referee. Per the stipulations of the match, Bandido would have to unmask.

As fans reacted to the shock finish, Bandido’s mother and sister at ringside alerted referee Aubrey Edwards about the bat, which was hidden in the steel steps nearby. Edwards identified the bat and immediately restarted the match. As Jericho reacted to the news, Bandido struck Jericho with the twenty-one plex and pinned him to win the championship.

Bandido celebrated with his family inside the ring as a despondent Jericho retreated to the back.

After Jericho initially defeated Bandido to retain the ROH World title in February, he continued to target Bandido and his family by attacking his brother Gravity and stealing his mask. After weeks of taunting, Bandido was able to get the mask back from Jericho on an episode of Collision after laying him out with a punch and snatching it before Big Bill or Bryan Keith could intervene.

FTR attack Adam Copeland following AEW Dynasty loss

After weeks of tension, FTR have finally snapped.

Following their loss to the Death Riders at AEW Dynasty, Cope and Cash Wheeler helped Dax to his feet as the trio hugged. As Wheeler turned away Dax suddenly grabbed Cope and drilled him with a piledriver as he exited the ring to grab steel chairs. He gave Wheeler one of the chairs to lay out Copeland with a conchairto. Wheeler refused at first, throwing the chair down and shoving Dax.

But as Wheeler helped Copeland up on his feet, he too turned on Cope, helping Dax lay him out with a shatter machine. FTR followed that up with a spike piledriver on top of a chair then gave him not one, but two conchairtos as AEW’s medical staff came to the ring to tend to Cope.

On their way out, Wheeler snatched a neck brace from one of the medical staff and mockingly put it on himself as Dax took the stretcher and threw it on the ground.

Recent weeks had seen Dax Harwood’s behavior become increasingly hostile, first refusing to shake the hands of the Undisputed Kingdom and later refusing to help Cope back on his feet after a brutal loss against Jon Moxley, leaving both Wheeler and Cope confused. On this week’s Dynamite, Dax paid a fine after he assaulted one of AEW’s referees following another loss.

This Week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter Back Issue

Sunday Update

  • Bryan and I will be back tonight talking AEW Dynasty, weekend news, Sakura Genesis and more with Wrestling Observer Radio. My week in review show with Garrett Gonzales is up on the site right now.
  • AEW Dynasty starts at about 6:45 p.m. Eastern on all the usual sources:
  • Max Caster Open Challenge
  • Top Flight & AR Fox vs. Action Andretti & Lio Rush & Nick Wayne
  • The Opps to appear (there was a tease for them against Shane Taylor & the Infantry but they may be for a television match and not tonight)
  • Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart in the Owen Hart tournament
  • Will Osperay vs. Kevin Knight in the Owen Hart tournament
  • Mark Briscoe vs. Kyle Fletcher in the Owen Hart tournament
  • Pac & Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta vs. FTR & Adam Copeland for trios titles
  • Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin vs. Big Bill & Bryan Keith for tag titles
  • Daniel Garcia vs. Adam Cole for the TNT title, no time limit, everyone banned from ringside
  • Chris Jericho vs. Bandido ROH title vs. mask
  • Kenny Omega vs. Ricochet vs. Mike Bailey for International title
  • Toni Storm vs. Megan Bayne for AEW women’s title
  • Jon Moxley vs. Swerve Strickland for AEW title
  • We’re looking for your thoughts on both AEW Dynasty and NJPW Sakura Genesis, so you can leave a thumbs up thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match for each show to [email protected]
  • We’re also looking for reports from last night’s NXT show in Dade City, FL, results, finishes and highlights, to [email protected]. We’re also looking for live reports from Raw tomorrow in Minneapolis for anything not on the live show. Dominik Mysterio vs Penta has been added to the show which also includes Lyra Valkyria vs. Bayley (who are expected to team up on Friday in the women’s Battle Royal for a shot at Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan).
  • Raw goes against the Houston vs. Florida NCAA basketball finals on CBS so as far as the U.S. itself goes, the numbers should be down from recent weeks.
  • For Google searches over the weekend, Josh Emmett had 50,000 regarding yesterday’s UFC show which ended up with 90,000. Paddy Pimblett had 20,000 although he didn’t fight. Kevin Owens had 20,000. Tiffany Stratton, CM Punk and Rey Fenix had 10,000 coming off the Smackdown television show. It’s rare that something off WWE TV trends let alone three different things.
  • They announced the Best of the Super Juniors tournament competitors (well 19 of the 20) at yesterday’s Sakura Genesis show. Most would be the expected New Japan junior heavyweights who are in most years.  Outsiders include Mao from DDT, Dragon Dia from Dragon Gate, Ninja Jack as well as Nick Wayne and Kevin Knight from AEW.  The tournament is 5/10 to 6/1.
  • Cody Rhodes was on TNT today to congratulate Alex Ovechin for his 895th NHL goal, breaking Wayne Gretzsky’s 35 year old all-time record that many thought would never be broken. That is notable for the obvious reasons.
  • TNT is giving AEW another shot at a big rating on 4/26. Collision will be a three hour show starting at 8:30 p.m. following an NBA playoff game. It will be a show taped the prior Wednesday in New Orleans.
  • WWE tonight on A&E has LFG at 8 p.m. with Diamond Dallas Page, Rivals at 9:30 .m. is Undertaker vs HHH, and Greatest Moments at 10:30 p.m.is on CM Punk.
  • Regarding potential Smackdown ratings, based on international placings on Netflix, of the key markets, more were up than down from last week. In the U.S., the competition wasn’t as tough most likely.
  • Mike Lano reported that Rob Van Dam suffered a knee injury in his first match in  about  a year at last night’s MLW show in Los Angeles, which was a legit sellout for the Battle Riot and all the CMLL stars.  Matt Riddle won the 40 man Battle Riot (think Bunkhouse Stampede from the 80s) to retain his title.
  • In last night’s UFC main event where Lerone Murphy beat Josh Bennett 48-47, 49-46 and 48-47, all media scores also went for Murphy, most of them at 49-46. Ryan Frederick and Paul Fontaine of this site both had it 48-47. The controversial call was in Torrez Finley vs. Robert Valentin.  It was 29-28, 29-28 and 27-30 for Finney, with famed boxing judge Tony Weeks giving all three rounds to Valentin. All media scores were also for Finney.
  • Brandon Royval vs. Manel Kape, in a fight where the winner could end up with a flyweight title shot, has been added to UFC 317 on 6/28 in Las Vegas, the International Fight Week show.
  • A boxing match with Rashad Evans vs. Rampage Jackson from their MMA feud way way back that was scheduled for this coming Saturday is off. The ICS promotion reported Jackson being off the show and  Evans still fighting in the main event.  But Evans then said he was not fighting, saying “We’ve encountered some unexpected challenges with the promotion and some key contractual obligations were not met as planned.” Translated that usually would mean money issues. Jackson also hinted at the same when pulling out. Jackson hasn’t fought in nearly six years.
  • Masashi Takeda of Japan is on tour and last night in Berwyn IL for ICW NHB, he beat Bobby Beverly to win their American deathmatch title (thanks to Leonard Brand)
  • United Wrestling Coalition on 4/21 in New Egypt, NJ at the American Legion.
  • Giulia was back in action on Friday night on the NXT show in Crystal River, FL, beating Arianna Grace.
  • AEW announced Collision on 6/21 and Dynamite on 6/25 in Kent, WA, promoted as Seattle on last night’s show, (it’s a suburb) at the Showare Center. The place would hold 4,500 for an AEW set up and AEW hasn’t drawn 4,500 for a market that size in a while for TV
  • Becky Lynch will be appearing this Friday night doing standup as part of The Ultimate Improv at the Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles. She is going as Becky Lynch so it’s a WWE approved gig.
  • Kirk White’s Big Time Wrestling and West Coast Pro did a joint show on Friday night in Newark, CA, which sold out:  Jheri Giggalow b Juicy Finau, Los Suavecitos b 2 Fresh , MVP b Vinne Massaro, Kevin Blackwood & Alan Angels & Aaron Solo b Marcus Lewis & Titus Alexander & Starboy Charlie, Brooke Havok & Jonnie Robbie b Sandra Mooniem & Maya Moore, JT Thorne won over LJ Cleary from NOAH,  Jayson Xavier and Chris Nasty. Next show is 6/6. (thanks to Jim Davis & Johnny Poon)
  • PFL last Sunday announced in the first round of the middleweight tournament that Fabian Edwards, scheduled to face Impa Kasanganay in the first round, was out and being replaced by Jordan Newman. Yesterday, they announced Edwards is back and Newman is out (reported by Ryan Frederick)

Max Caster open challenge, trios match added to AEW Dynasty Zero Hour

Two new segments have been added to AEW Dynasty’s pre-show.

It was announced on Saturday that Nick Wayne and Cru (Action Andretti & Lio Rush) will take on AR Fox and Top Flight in a trios match. Collision saw Top Flight beat Cru in a tag team match after weeks of tension between the former friends. Angry about the loss, Rush and Andretti immediately jumped Dante and Darius Martin after the bell as AR Fox came out for the save. Nick Wayne, who earlier in the night rebuffed an offer by Cru to help them, came out and aided them in taking out Top Flight and Fox.

Also set for Sunday is a Max Caster Best Wrestler Alive Open Challenge. Before quickly losing to Mark Briscoe on Saturday, Caster referenced his former tag team partner Anthony Bowens.

The Zero Hour pre-show begins on Sunday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time. The pre-show will air for free on AEW’s YouTube and digital media channels. The main card kicks off at 8 p.m. Eastern time on pay-per-view.

  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Megan Bayne

We will be updating this page as and when AEW confirms more matches for the upcoming AEW Dynasty 2025 PPV card.

Two new matches confirmed for AEW Dynasty

AEW’s Tony Khan has confirmed two new matches for Sunday’s Dynasty pay-per-view in Philadelphia.

The Ring of Honor World Championship will be on the line on Sunday’s card, with Chris Jericho putting the belt up in a title vs. mask match against Bandido. It will be the first match for Jericho since defeating Bandido in a World title match on a February Collision episode.

Jericho issued a challenge to Bandido weeks back for a title vs. mask match and the build has continued, but Khan’s announcement Thursday night was the first confirmation of the stipulation match for Dynasty.

In another new match set for the show, Mark Briscoe faces Kyle Fletcher in an Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament quarterfinals bout.

This is the fourth career meeting for Briscoe and Fletcher in singles action, with Briscoe holding a 2-1 edge in the series. The winner will advance to the semifinals to take on the victor of the Hangman Page vs. a wild card opponent announced for the quarterfinals.

AEW Dynasty begins with the Zero Hour pre-show on Sunday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time. The pre-show will air for free on AEW’s YouTube and digital media channels. The main card kicks off at 8 p.m. Eastern time on pay-per-view. The current Dynasty lineup:

  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Swerve Strickland
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Megan Bayne
  • AEW International Champion Kenny Omega defends against Ricochet and Mike Bailey in a three-way
  • AEW Trios Champions Death Riders (Wheeler Yuta, PAC & Claudio Castagnoli) defend against Rated FTR (Cope, Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler)
  • ROH World Champion Chris Jericho defends against Bandido in a title vs. mask match
  • AEW TNT Champion Daniel Garcia defends against Adam Cole with no time limit and no interference

Injury caused change in plans for AEW Dynasty Tag Team title match

An injury to Brian Cage led to a change in plans for AEW’s upcoming Dynasty pay-per-view.

In the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin are scheduled to defend their AEW Tag Team titles against Big Bill & Bryan Keith at the Sunday, April 6 PPV in Philadelphia. It was originally supposed to be Cage & Lance Archer challenging for the belts, but Cage is dealing with a knee injury.

“The tag title match was a change as Brian Cage suffered a knee injury on an independent show on 3/20 in Los Angeles against Chris Masters,” Meltzer wrote. “So the originally planned but not announced Hurt Syndicate vs. Murder Machines match had to be changed and they had to pivot to new challengers, going with Bill & Keith.”

The build to Lashley & Benjamin vs. Big Bill & Keith began with a confrontation on Dynamite this week. After a challenge was issued, The Hurt Syndicate told Big Bill & Keith that they’ll need to win a match before they’ll be granted a title shot.

Big Bill & Keith vs. Top Flight is taking place on AEW Collision this Saturday.

Lashley & Benjamin were crowned the new AEW Tag Team Champions when they defeated Private Party this January. Big Bill is a former tag champ, holding the titles with Ricky Starks from October 2023 to February 2024.

A match between Cage and Rich Swann was scheduled for Future Stars of Wrestling’s Chris Bey benefit show on March 23, but Ricochet ended up facing Swann instead.
