Andrade-Hardy Family Office ’emergency board meeting’ added to AEW Dynamite

A new segment has been added to tonight’s Revolution fallout edition of Dynamite.

Coming off their loss at Revolution, the Andrade-Hardy Family Office will hold an “emergency board meeting” on tonight’s show. AEW wrote that the meeting was called for by Andrade El Idolo.

“Following the destruction of their Tornado Trios match this past weekend at Revolution, El Presidente @AndradeElIdolo has called for an Emergency Meeting of the #AHFO Board of Directors on #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork @ 8pm ET/7pm CT Live TONIGHT!,” AEW tweeted.

Andrade, Matt Hardy & Isiah Kassidy lost a tornado tag match against Sting, Darby Allin & Sammy Guevara at Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view. Allin pinned Hardy to win the match.

Last night, Hardy sent out the following tweet: “I became wrapped up in making as much money as I could in @AEW, much like those who came before me. I took advantage of young men who looked up to me & I failed them. On #AEWDynamite, I promise to make a change & be better. It’s time for me to get back to being Matt Hardy.”

Tonight’s Dynamite is being held at Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida. Here’s the updated lineup for the episode:

  • TNT Champion Sammy Guevara defends against Scorpio Sky
  • AEW Women’s World Championship number one contender’s match: Thunder Rosa vs. Leyla Hirsch
  • Bryan Danielson & Jon Moxley (w/ William Regal) vs. TBA
  • Chris Jericho will address Eddie Kingston
  • The Andrade-Hardy Family Office will hold an “emergency board meeting”
  • Paige VanZant is expected to sign an AEW contract

TNT Championship match set for next week’s AEW Rampage

A TNT title match has been announced for next week’s Rampage.

It was confirmed on tonight’s show that Sammy Guevara will defend the TNT title against Andrade El Idolo. The match was set following events from this week’s Dynamite.

Guevara was defending the TNT title against Darby Allin on Wednesday when Andrade’s assistant Jose came down to ringside. As the referee was distracted, Andrade emerged and attacked Allin with an iPad as Allin was going to the top rope. Guevara recovered and, not knowing what had happened, hit the GTH on Allin for the win.

After the match, Matt Hardy came to the ring and attacked Allin. As Guevara chased Hardy off, Andrade attacked Guevara, laying him out. Andrade ended Dynamite by posing with the TNT titles.

Next week’s Rampage will be taped following Dynamite at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Announced for Dynamite next week is House of Black vs. Penta El Zero Miedo & PAC, Jade Cargill vs. The Bunny for the TBS Championship, and a tag team battle royale for a slot in the three way AEW Tag Team title match at Revolution.

AEW Dynamite live results: Cody Rhodes vs. Andrade El Idolo

An Atlanta Street Fight headlines tonight’s live AEW Dynamite from Duluth, Georgia.

Cody Rhodes will face Andrade El Idolo in the match. Rhodes has been feuding with the loosely-aligned Malakai Black and Andrade since both debuted in the company this past summer.

The TBS Championship tournament will continue with the last quarterfinals matchup, as Ruby Soho takes on Kris Statlander to decide who will join Nyla Rose, Jade Cargill and Thunder Rosa in the semifinals. The winner of Soho-Statlander will take on Rose at a later date.

CM Punk will face Lee Moriarty tonight in a first-time matchup. Punk remains undefeated in his AEW career, going a perfect 7-0.

Sting and Darby Allin will tag against Gunn Club’s Billy Gunn and Colten Gunn. AEW World title number one contender Bryan Danielson will also be in action on the show, facing Dark Order’s Alan Angels.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

Show Report —

Excalibur and Tony Schiavone were on commentary without Jim Ross, who is taking time off for treatment on his skin cancer diagnosis. Best wishes, JR!

AEW World Champion Hangman Page joined commentary for the opener.

Bryan Danielson defeated Alan “5” Angels

Danielson toyed with Angels early on. Angels came back with kicks, chops and five (ha!) punches in the corner until he was cut off by strikes from Danielson. Angels surprised Danielson with a backslide, but Danielson suplexed him into a cross armbreaker, forcing Angels to reach the ropes for a break. Angels sent Danielson to the floor and landed a tope suicida followed by an Orihara moonsault.

Back in the ring, Angels went up top again but had to adjust to hit a Spanish Fly for two. Danielson avoided a moonsault press and immediately crushed Angels with the Busaiku Knee before kicking Angels’ head in. It was elementary from there as Danielson locked on a knee bar for the quick submission.

– After the match, Danielson was interviewed by Schiavone in the ring, who asked if Danielson was ready. Danielson said he didn’t think that was the best Atlanta’s got, because he kicked his head in and probably snapped his MCL. Last week, he took out Colt Cabana’s tooth, and next week, he’ll stomp in another Dark Order member’s head. In two weeks, Danielson will take the AEW World Championship at the home of the (Dallas) Cowboys.

Page, who was on commentary, got hot and was about to run down to the ring, but John Silver ran out and cut him off, saying he’d get Danielson instead. Danielson fled, saying that was beneath him. If Page or Danielson touched each other, they’d be suspended. Danielson would slap Page right now, but the fans don’t deserve to see it.

A Miro video promo aired. He was unsure of what to do until a vision came to him from his God, who revealed what an asshole he really is. Miro only has two weaknesses: one he will repair, and one he will embrace. “This is the word of the Redeemer.”

MJF joined commentary for this match.

CM Punk defeated Lee Moriarty

They performed chain wrestling to start until Punk took Moriarty down with a dropkick followed by a diving clothesline. After a break, Moriarty made a comeback concluded with a running uppercut and a belly-to-belly suplex for two. Punk hit a springboard crossbody, but Moriarty rolled through for two. The latter immediately locked on an over-the-shoulder crossface, but Punk fought out.

Up top, Punk hit a Frankensteiner. They traded repeated cradles until Punk landed a high kick, dropping Moriarty. Moriarty came back with a Pepsi Twist for a near fall, but then Punk powered Punk into the GTS for the win.

– After the match, MJF grabbed a mic and said he was proud of Punk. The only thing he’s good at nowadays is trying to get in Britt Baker’s pants.

Punk said that MJF was wearing Larry David’s pajamas, and QT Marshall and Lee Moriarty are better than MJF and he knows it. He shut MJF and told him to bring his “needle d*ck” into the ring right now.

MJF said that Punk needs him more than he needs Punk, giving him a spark he hasn’t had since 2011. Next week, MJF’s going to win the Dynamite Dozen Battle Royale in Long Island, where he will be better than Bret Hart in Canada and Punk in Chicago. He insulted Punk’s dog, saying if he brought him around again, he’d put him to sleep.

Punk stormed up the ramp to confront MJF, but Wardlow walked out and stepped in between.

**********

AEW women’s world champion Britt Baker was backstage with Rebel and Jamie Hayter. Baker complained about having to wrestle Riho. Hayter said she had one of the best matches in the TBS tournament, but Baker pointed out that she lost. Hayter will take on Riho next week.

**********

Adam Cole joined commentary for… something. Orange Cassidy made his entrance and faced off with Cole. The Young Bucks tried a sneak attack, but Orange had it scouted. After landing some stiff kicks, Cole low blowed Orange and the Bucks landed double superkicks. Chuck Taylor and Wheeler YUTA ran out with chairs to chase off the SuperKliq.

That was baffling. Why did Cole or Orange make their entrances? Was there a match or something scheduled? Didn’t make one lick of sense.

**********

Tony Nese cut a video promo. He will challenge Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship on Friday, and he will target the champ’s ribs.

**********

Wardlow (w/ Shawn Spears) defeated AC Adams

Wardlow squashed this poor man with four powerbombs.

– After the match, Spears attacked Adams with chair shots.

**********

Penta El Zero M and PAC were backstage. Due to an injury to Rey Fénix, PAC will replace him in this Friday’s match against FTR. PAC had an eye patch on, but he’d be a formidable opponent no matter what.

**********

Taz with Powerhouse Hobbs and HOOK, joined commentary for this match.

Darby Allin & Sting defeated The Gunn Club (Billy Gunn & Colten Gunn) (w/ Austin Gunn)

Allin and Colten wrestled around briefly to start, but then it was time for Sting and Billy to face off. Sting hit repeated backfists and an atomic drop, but Billy avoided a Stinger Splash. Allin tagged in and went for a Coffin splash, but Billy caught him and planted him with a uranage. The Gunn Club isolated Allin in their corner.

Upon return from break, Colten had a Scorpion Deathlock applied on Allin, who escaped and reach Sting for the hot tag. Sting landed Stinger Splashes on both opponents and a spinebuster on Colten for good measure. The Scorpion Deathlock followed, but with the official distracted, Austin broke up the hold. Allin took him out with a tope suicida.

Billy hit a Fame-asser on Sting, but he kicked out at two. Allin took out Billy with another awesome tope, then hit the float-over stunner on Colten. Sting followed with the Scorpion Deathdrop for the win.

**********

Chris Jericho was interviewed backstage. He said he didn’t come to Eddie Kingston’s aid last week, but he was out there to take out 2point0. Garcia and co. then attacked Jericho from behind, with Parker smacking Jericho with a chair.

After a break, we were informed that Jericho was receiving medical attention.

**********

Taz talked about how 25% of the Dynamite Dozen Battle Royale were Team Taz members.

Lio Rush interrupted, saying Taz should know he’s had the odds stacked against him his entire career. He’s going to win the Dynamite Dozen. These people know that he is a fighter.

Taz said that Rush should just retire, and Dante Martin and Ricky Starks came out to taunt Rush and protect Taz.

**********

Jade Cargill and Mark Sterling were backstage. They said that Cargill would face off against Thunder Rosa’s student Janai Kai on Rampage. Rosa interrupted, saying she’d be on commentary.

**********

TBS Championship Tournament: Ruby Soho defeated Kris Statlander

This started slow but got really good at the end. Love seeing AEW showcase their women’s division in this tournament.

Neither woman could establish an advantage early on as both had the other scouted. Soho hit a flatliner to take control ahead of the break. Once back, Soho landed a top-rope senton for two, then a buzzsaw kick for another two. Statlander countered a cazadora into a Blue Thunder bomb for a near fall of her own.

Statlander went for the spider crab, but instead opted for a buckle bomb and almost like a Michinoku driver for a near fall. Soho came back with elbows and more strikes. Statlander blocked a turnbuckle attack, but Soho turned it into a poisonrana and a spike rana for a good near fall.

Soho went for No Future, but Statlander blocked it. Soho reversed the Big Bang Theory into a victory roll cradle for the win.

– After the match, Nyla Rose, Soho’s semifinal round opponent, attacked Soho. Statlander chased her off.

Atlanta Street Fight: Cody Rhodes (w/ Arn Anderson) defeated Andrade El Idolo (w/ José the Assistant)

Andrade attacked during Cody’s entrance. Arn and José fought on the stage as Cody and Andrade brawled into the stands. Cody landed a twisting crossbody off a barricade. As they moved back towards the ring, Cody was sent face-first into the steel steps.

They made it back into the ring, where Cody hit a snap powerslam. He continued to be met with boos. Andrade low-blowed him and whipped him with his weight belt. He then pulled out José’s laptop and smashed it over Cody’s face before doing the same with a chair. Andrade produced a chain, but Cody avoided a shot, forcing Andrade to hit a split-leg moonsault onto Cody through a chair for two.

Cody fought out of a suplex and kicked Andrade low. He went for the Cody Cutter, but Andrade countered it by pushing Cody to the floor ahead of a commercial. Once back, Andrade went for another chair moonsault, but Cody tossed the chair into him. Cody grabbed the chain and punched Andrade with it. He went for a tope suicida, but Andrade cut him off with a chair shot.

Andrade ripped up the padding at ringside. He went for the Shadow DDT on the exposed floor, but Cody, who had been busted open, powered out of it. Cody grabbed a kendo stick, teased a sledgehammer, then opted for a golden shovel.

José ran out with a taser but was smacked by Cody’s shovel. Andrade then splashed Cody over the corner to the floor. Back in the ring, Andrade hit the corner double knees through a chair into Cody’s face for a near fall. Andrade then produced a table and put it in the ring, but Cody landed the drop-down right hand. He charged at Andrade and was hip tossed through the table for his trouble.

Andrade brought in another table and perched Cody on top of it. He climbed the ropes, but Cody rolled off and met Andrade up top. Cody crotched Andrade on the ropes, then Brandi made her return and doused lighter fluid on the table. She then lit the whole thing on fire. Cody hit the reverse DDT through the flaming table, burning himself, for the win.

Cody vs. Andrade Atlanta Street Fight set for AEW Dynamite

An Atlanta Street Fight will take place on next week’s Dynamite.

Cody Rhodes and Andrade el Idolo will take part in the street fight that takes place next week in Duluth, Georgia. The match comes following the main event of last week’s Dynamite, where Andrade pinned PAC with the hammerlock DDT in an eight-man tag match that also involved Rhodes. Both Rhodes and Andrade have been feuding in recent weeks, with Rhodes and PAC facing Andrade and Malakai Black at Full Gear earlier this month, with Rhodes getting the win.

Also announced for Wednesday is Bryan Danielson facing Alan Angels. Danielson has been looking to score wins against members of the Dark Order as of late in anticipation for his future title match against AEW World Champion Hangman Page.

Darby Allin and Sting will also team up on next week’s Dynamite, as they will face Billy and Colten Gunn. Allin and Sting have been feuding with the Gunn Club since last Friday, with Allin pinning Billy Gunn on last week’s Rampage only for the rest of the Gunn Club to lay out both Sting and Allin.

Already set for the show is Kris Statlander vs. Ruby Soho, with the winner advancing in the TBS Women’s title tournament.

AEW Rampage live results: PAC vs. Andrade El Idolo II

Friday’s AEW Rampage will see the rematch between rivals PAC and Andrade El Idolo in addition to the kickoff of the AEW World Championship eliminator tournament.

This will be their second meeting in as many months with Andrade picking up the win on the September 10th Rampage after it was originally slated for All Out. The two have been at odds since Andrade’s arrival in the company following Double Or Nothing.

The second edition of the World title eliminator tournament will kick off as Powerhouse Hobbs takes on Orange Cassidy. The two first met in a singles match on AEW Dark in July 2020. The winner will advance to face either Jon Moxley or Dark Order’s 10 in the next round.

Women’s Champion Dr. Britt Baker will face Anna Jay in a non-title singles encounter. This came about when Jay and Baker got into an argument backstage following a Jay interview with Tony Schiavone last week.

The bracket for the upcoming TBS title tournament is set to be revealed as well.

**********

Excalibur, Taz, Chris Jericho and Ricky Starks are on commentary.

Orange Cassidy (w/ Chuck Taylor) defeated Powerhouse Hobbs (w/ Hook) (8:04) to advance to the semi-finals of the World title eliminator tournament.

Pre-match recaps showed how last year on Dark, Cassidy defeated Hobbs in 12 seconds with the orange punch, as well as how beat up Cassidy was in the ladder match two weeks ago on Dynamite.  Cassidy came out wearing the DDP tribute rib tape.

Hobbs hit a spinebuster very early on for a near fall, and took the fight to the floor,  working over Cassidy’s injured ribs and back. Matt Hardy cheered on Hobbs from the crowd. Back in the ring, Hobbs methodically hit a variety of suplexes on Cassidy. Cassidy tried to counter a suplex attempt with a spinning DDT, but Hobbs blocked it and clotheslined Cassidy. Hobbs was in control as the show went to a picture-in-picture break.

Back from the break, Hobbs continued to dominate. Cassidy tried a crossbody off the top, but Hobbs caught him and put Cassidy in the torture rack. Cassidy broke free with elbows and got a near fall with a small package.  Cassidy went for the orange punch but Hobbs bullied him into the corner, then followed up with a pair of avalanches. Hobbs worked over Cassidy in the corner and refused to adhere to the referees instructions, angering the ref. Hobbs manhandled the ref, and Hook got up on the apron to try and calm down Hobbs. In this confusion, Cassidy caught Hobbs in the mousetrap and got the pinfall to advance to the next round. Cassidy faces the winner of the Jon Moxley vs. 10 match in the semi-finals.

– In the World Title Eliminator Tournament, Bryand Danielson vs. Dustin Rhodes and Eddie Kingston vs. Lance Arrcher are set for Dynamite tomorrow, and Moxley/10 is set for Wednesday in Boston.

– Tony Schiavone called out Penta and Alex Abrahantes for an interview (Jericho on commentary explained Rey Fenix was injured in the finish of last Saturday’s match). They were distracted by two fans in green masks in the crowd. Penta (thinking they were FTR) confronted them and ripped off their hoods, but they were just some dudes. FTR and Tully Blanchard jumped Penta and Abrahantes from behind, taking them out.  FTR celebrated their skulduggery by holding up their AAA title belts and the Lucha Bros’ AEW World title belts. Pac ran out to make the save. This definitely teased an FTR/Lucha Bros rematch at the pay-per-view.

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D (w/ Rebel & Jamie Hayter) defeated Anna Jay (6:51 aired)

Anna Jay looked great in what was perhaps her most high-profile match in AEW. This match also helped set up Baker’s potential opponent for Full Gear.

After exchanging forearms, both women went for their submissions early, and saw their opponent quickly and easily escape. The crowd was solidly behind Baker, although Jay did have her fans. Baker worked over Jay’s arm, but Jay reversed and caught Baker with a thrust kick. Jay caught Baker with a flat liner and went for the Koji clutch, but Baker escaped. Baker used a hair pull to send Jay headfirst into the turnbuckles and winked to the camera.

After a long commercial break (nearly four minutes!), Baker hit Jay with a slingblade and a twisting neck breaker for a near fall. Baker got the glove from Rebel, but Jay caught Baker with a DDT and sliding dropkick for a near fall. Jay went for the Queenslayer sleeper, but Baker got the ropes. They exchanged crucifixes for near falls, and Jay got the sleeper on Baker. Hayter distracted Jay from the apron, and Baker almost got a pin off the distraction. Jay superkicked Baker to the floor and got the sleeper again. Baker tried the Bret Hart pin from WrestleMania 8, but that didn’t work and Jay kept her locked in the hold. Finally, Baker got to the ropes, and snapped Jay’s neck against the middle rope. Baker caught Jay with a superkick, then tied her up in the lockjaw. Jay had to tap. Britt gave Jay a lot and both women came out looking strong.

Post-match, Baker locked in the lock jaw on Jay again, and Tay Conti ran out and made the save. Conti chased off Baker, who left the Women’s world title belt in the ring. Conti held up the belt and taunted Baker, teasing a potential match at Full Gear.

– In a rundown of Dynamite for tomorrow night, the only new match announced is Jungle Boy vs. Brandon Cutler.  On next week’s Ramage, the winner of Danielson/Rhodes will take on the winner of Archer/Kingston.

The TBS Tournament bracket.

Four women will get first round byes. The tournament will begin tomorrow night on AEW Saturday Dynamite.

  • Thunder Rosa gets a bye, and faces the winner of Anna Jay vs. Jamie Hayter.
  • Jade Cardill gets a bye, and faces the winner of The Bunny vs. Red Velvet.
  • Nyla Rose gets a bye, and faces the winner of Serena Deeb vs. Hikaru Shida (this match will happen Wednesday on Dynamite).
  • And Kris Statlander gets a bye and faces the winner of Penelope Ford and Ruby Soho (this match will happen tomorrow night).

Tony Schiavone moderates the face-to-face segment between Andrade and Pac before the main event. What happened to Mark Henry? Bryan Alvarez is going to be so disappointed! Tony delivers Henry’s line, but it wasn’t the same.

Pac defeated Andrade El Idolo (16:18)

This match was all kinds of awesome.

Everyone is barred from ringside. Well I mean, except for El Idolo and Pac and the referee. But everyone else stays in the back.

In the first 30 seconds Pac snapped off two superkicks, a German suplex and a tope con hilo. He went to the top for the Black Arrow but El Idolo crotched him on the ropes. El Idolo went for a double knee in the corner, but Pac dodged it and hit a superkick. El Idolo asked Pac to give him his best shot, so Pac took his head off with a boot.

El Idolo caught Pac with a boot that sent him to the floor, and El Idolo hit a spinning springboard plancha to the floor. With both guys selling on the floor, the show went to its last picture-in-picture break.

Back from break, El Idolo hit the three amigos for a near fall while the crowd chanted “Eddy!” Pac elbowed out of a waistlock, only to walk right into a boot. El Idolo went for a slingshot dropkick while Pac was slumped against the ropes, but Pac dropped out of the way and El Idolo crashed and burned to the floor, taking an ugly bump.

Pac came out to the floor with a rana which sent El Idolo backfirst into a chair. Referee Aubrey Edwards checked with El Idolo, who continued the match. Pac came off the top with fantastic moonsault onto El Idolo. “Fight forever!” chants from the crowd, and I’m on board with that. Pac teased a move from the top, and El Idolo popped up, and right inot a kick from Pac. A slingshot cutter from Pac got another near fall. Pac went for the brutalizer but El Idolo got to the ropes before Pac could lock it in.

Pac and El Idolo ended up on the ring apron exchanging strikes. El Idolo drove Pac back-first into the apron from an inverted DDT position. El Idolo then followed that up with a slingshot DDT out of the ring onto the ring apron, and this time both men crashed and burned to the floor.

El Idolo went to the top for a moonsault, but Pac crotched him. Pac then delivered a top rope avalanche brainbuster and covered El Idolo… for two. El Idolo recovered and began exchanging slaps and forearms with Pac. Pac caught El Idolo with a superkick and a poison rana. El Idolo countered with a back elbow and both went for pinning combinations. El Idolo went for a hammerlock DDT, but Pac countered with a cradle and got the pinfall, and the lights went out.

When the lights  came back on,  Malakai Black appeared and spat mist in Pac’s face. Black got a chair from under the ring, but Arn Anderson came down the entrance to distract Black and El Idolo. Cody Rhodes ran in through the crowd, taking out both El Idolo and Black. Rhodes hit his fantastic spinning powerslam on Black and grabbed the chair. He went for Black with the chair, but Black ducked out of the ring.

Nice angle to set up Black/Rhodes III. Rhodes was cheered by the fans for making the save.

Final Thoughts:

It’s a little depressing to think about how far along Anna Jay would be if she didn’t spend so many months on the shelf this year. She looked great against Baker. I have no doubt Jay will get to the next level in AEW, however.  Her match did seem to set up Tay Conti vs. Britt Baker in what should be a fantastic world title match for the pay-per-view. As someone who’s watched Conti develop on Dark and Elevation all year, I’m very excited for that match.

But the main event was fantastic, a must see match. Although I think going to the Cody angle right away hurt the finish a bit. Nonetheless, fantastic and the best match I’ve seen… well in a week since Suzuki/Danielson. AEW continues to deliver stellar action on Friday night.

PAC vs. Andrade El Idolo 2 announced for AEW Rampage

A second match between PAC and Andrade El Idolo has been announced for next week’s Rampage.

Their first match took place back on September 8, when Idolo defeated PAC due to interference from Idolo’s then-manager Chavo Guerrerro. After Idolo found out that Chavo had interfered, Idolo attacked him, ending the relationship.

Dynamite on Saturday will have PAC’s stablemates the Lucha Bros. (Rey Fenix and Pentagon El 0 M) vs. a mystery team that is good friends with Idolo for the AAA Tag Team titles.

The AEW World Title Eliminator tournament will also begin on Rampage next week. The bracket featuring the participants for the tournament will be revealed on Saturday’s Dynamite, with the finals taking place at Full Gear. The winner of the tournament will get a future title match for the AEW World Championship.

The bracket for the TBS Women’s title tournament will be revealed on next week’s Rampage. The title was announced last week on Dynamite as a new title in the women’s division, with stars such as Thunder Rosa, Ruby Soho, Jade Cargill, and Skye Blue all expressing interest. AEW Dynamite will move to TBS in January, with Rampage staying on TNT.

Danielson vs. Fish, AAA tag title match added to AEW Dynamite

Three new matches have been added to next week’s AEW Dynamite.

Bryan Danielson will face Bobby Fish in a singles match. Fish made his AEW debut on this week’s show, losing to Sammy Guevara in a match that was for the TNT Championship. AEW confirmed his signing after the show.

The AAA Tag Team titles will also be on the line. Pentagon and Rey Fenix, who also hold the AEW World Tag Team titles, will defend the AAA titles against a mystery masked team who are Andrade el Idolo’s close friends. In a backstage promo that aired last week on Dynamite, Idolo issued the challenge, saying he was going to bring in two men to challenge the Lucha Bros..

The match between Dante Martin and Malakai Black has also been made official. On this week’s Dynamite, Martin had asked for competition, with Black appearing and taking Martin out, saying he accepted his challenge.

AEW will also reveal the brackets for their upcoming World Title Eliminator tournament, with the winner getting an AEW World Championship match. The finals will take place at Full Gear.

Dynamite will not air this Wednesday due to NHL coverage. Instead, it will air live on Saturday, October 16 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. expected to return to AEW

Image: AEW

Even though Chavo Guerrero Jr. was written off in storyline, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Guerrero is expected to return to AEW in the future.

Two weeks ago on Rampage, Andrade El Idolo picked up a win over PAC thanks to help from Guerrero while the referee’s back was turned. However, El Idolo didn’t want the help and laid out Guerrero after the match. Guerrero was then given a double superkick from Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix before PAC finished him off with the brutalizer.

Meltzer said the reason for the angle was Guerrero is the wrestling coordinator for the NBC show Young Rock, based on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s life. They are filming the second season now so Guerrero needed to be written off which was the plan from the onset. Meltzer said Guerrero is expected to return when filming is done.

The 50-year-old made his AEW debut in July as the executive consultant for El Idolo, taking over for Vickie Guerrero.

AEW Rampage live results: PAC vs. Andrade El Idolo

Friday’s AEW Rampage from Cincinnati, Ohio, will see PAC take on Andrade El Idolo in a highly anticipated match

The match was originally slated for last Sunday’s All Out, but was moved due to what AEW called “travel issues.” They attempted to explain it in storyline that El Idolo’s team messed with PAC’s travel. This will be El Idolo’s second AEW match as he defeated Matt Sydal in his early-July debut.

Friday’s taped show will also see hometown favorite Brian Pillman Jr. of the Varsity Blonds vs. Max Caster of The Acclaimed. The two teams were feuding on Dark and Dark: Elevation and building toward a tag team match before Caster disappeared without explanation following a controversial pre-match rap.

An six-woman tag team team match will see AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter and Reba against no. 1 contender Ruby Soho, former Women’s Champion Riho and Kris Statlander, set into motion following the events of Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Darby Allin and Sting will do a promo ahead of Allin’s Wednesday match against Shawn Spears. Sting will also address Tully Blanchard’s Wednesday comments about a future fight between the two.

Andrade El Idolo (w/ Chavo) defeated PAC (15:45 w/ ad break)

Both guys were  already in the ring at the start of the show for introductions from Justin Roberts. After a staredown, both men exchange forearms. El Idolo won the exchange and tried a side headlock, but PAC broke free. El Idolo caught PAC with a shotgun dropkick and did the “El Tranquilo” taunt.

The crowd got behind PAC with a “Let’s Go PAC!” chant, and PAC caught El Idolo with an arm drag and a rana. El Idolo dropped to the floor and PAC nailed a tope con hilo. PAC whipped El Idolo in the barricades a couple of times, then tossed him back into the ring. PAC worked over El Idolo with hard chops in the corner and a chinlock on the mat.

El Idolo worked his way out of the chinlock and caught PAC with a boot against the ropes. El Idolo then did a springboard over the ropes and grabbed PAC’s head into a DDT on the ring apron. PAC fell to the floor and El Idolo followed up with a springboard plancha. The crowd chanted “This is awesome!” and they were right.

Both guys battled up to the top rope, and PAC fell back, hanging from his knee on the top rope. El Idolo jumped off the top rope with a double stomp into PAC’s chest, and with both men on the floro the show went to a quick ad break.

Back from the break, El Idolo hit a springboard moonsault (almost like a RVD-style split leg moonsault, but way more sudden)  for a two count. El Idolo positioned PAC on the middle rope to set up an electric chair drop, but PAC countered into a super rana. PAC then came in with a massive pump kick, but El Idolo responded with a clothesline. PAC returned with a superkick and both guys were down. El Idolo got outside to the ring apron, where he and PAC exchanged forearms.

PAC went for a sunset flip powerbomb to the floor, but  El Idolo flipped out of it and landed on his feet. PAC hit him with a superkick. PAC wound up hung on the top rope again by his legs, and El Idolo went for the double stomp again. But this time, PAC avoided it and hit a top rope moonsault to the floor.

After both guys sold on the floor for a bit, PAC threw El Idolo back into the ring,  then came off the top with a 450 splash. PAC went for the cover, but El Idolo got to the ropes to break the pin count. PAC drug El Idolo into the corner and went to the top to set up the Black Arrow, but El Idolo got away. PAC hit a Pele kick and went for his hammerlock DDT, but PAC countered and hit a german suplex. PAC went for a springboard, El Idolo caught him in a fireman’s carry, but PAC countered into the Brutalizer.  Jose jumped on the apron with a taser, so the Lucha Bros ran in and pulled Jose down. But this distracted the ref, and Chavo ran in to hit PAC with his iPad. El Idolo rolled up PAC for the pin.

Excellent match.

After the match, Jose told El Idolo that Chavo interfered, so El Idolo decked Chavo and left him laying in the entrance. The Lucha Bros hit Chavo with a double superkick, then threw Chavo back in the ring for PAC to torture him with the Brutalizer.

Sting and Darby Allin Interview w/ Tony Schiavone

Schiavone interviewed Sting and Allin in the ring. Allin called out Spears and said Spears would be nothing without Tully Blanchard. Sting then grabbed the mic and said  Blanchard rode the coattails of Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Sting called out Blanchard, and Blanchard responded from the stage. While Blanchard distracted Sting from the entrance, Shawn Spears snuck in from behind and pulled Allin out of the ring and hit him with a Death Valley Driver.

Adam Cole & Bryan Danielson segment.

In pre-taped comments from backstage, Adam Cole explained why he joined the Elite: he trusts the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, and they trust him. Cole seemed to have his sights set on Bryan Danielson.

Bryan Danielson responds in his own pre-taped comments, but he’s looking for his first match in AEW to be with Kenny Omega. But if Omega doesn’t respond to Danielson’s challenge,  he’s sure some other hungry AEW wrestler will.

Ruby Soho, Kris Statlander & Riho defeated Dr. Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter & Rebel (6:30 aired)

Baker and Riho started out, but Statlander quickly got the tag. Statlander got a near fall after a powerslam. Riho and Hayter tagged in.  Rebel kneed Riho from the ring apron as Riho ran the ropes. While the heels worked over Riho, the show went to break.

Back from the break, Soho got the hot tag from Riho and worked over Hayter with forearms and a superkick. A takedown got Soho a near fall. Statlander and Soho tried to double-team Hayter, but she fought out of it and got a near fall on Statlander after a backbreaker. Rebel tagged in and she and Hayter tried to double-suplex Statlander, but Statlander countered and suplexed both of her opponents instead. Statlander tried to pin Rebel with a rollup, but Baker came in with a meteoria to break up the cover. Statlander caught Baker with a suplex. Riho climb onto Statlander’s shoulders, looking to hit a move on Baker, but Rebel threw herself onto Baker to save her! So, Riho came off of Statlander’s shoulders with a double stop on Rebel. Baker rolled to the floor, and Soho hit her finisher on Rebel to get  the pin.

The crew ran down all the upcoming matches scheduled for the next two weeks on Dynamite.

Mark Henry conducted a face to face interview with Max Caster and Brian Pillman Jr. Caster will bring Anthony Bowens with him to ringside, but Pillman will go out there alone.

**********

Brian Pillman Jr. defeated Max Caster (w/ Anthony Bowens) (6:36)

Even though it’s nearly 11pm on cable, Caster still can’t say what he thinks Skyline chili looks like in his pre-match rap. “You’re on thin ice, Max!”

Pillman wore Bengals-themed trunks and ran in to attack Caster before the bell. After an initial flurry from Pillman, Caster took control. Caster got a near fall after a knee drop. He worked a cravat, but Pillman worked his way out of the hold. Bowens distracted Pillman and Caster caught him with a back suplex. Caster tossed Pillman to the floor and Bowens worked over Pillman while Caster distracted referee Aubrey Edwards.

Back in the ring, Caster charged Pillman in the corner, and Pillman caught him with a boot. Pillman followed up with a flying forearm and a clothesline. Caster tried to cover up in the corner, but Pillman whipped him into the other corner and followed him in with a clothesline. Pillman tried to go for a top rope move, but Bowens distracted him. Pillman hit Bowens with a top rope crossbody. As Pillman came back in, Caster caught him with a dropkick.

Caster tossed Pillman back into the ring and went for his Mic Drop top rope elbow, but Pillman got out of the way. Pillman then hit Caster with the Air Pillman springboard clothesline and got the pinfall. Babyfaces winning in their home town? What is this?

Pillman briefly celebrated with his family in the front row, but Bowens jumped Pillman again. Both members of the Acclaimed tried to attack Pillman with their boombox, but Jon Moxley ran in and made the save. The hometown boys celebrated to the cheers of the crowd as the show closed.

Final Thoughts:

Andrade and PAC was a fantastic match. Brian Pillman Jr. getting a win in front of his hometown fans was a great moment. Rampage is the best hour of wrestling every week.

AAA made final call to have Kenny Omega retain title at Triplemania

Some new information has come out regarding the decision to have Kenny Omega retain the AAA Mega title at last Saturday’s Triplemania instead of going with the original plan of Andrade El Idolo leaving that night as champion.

Dave Meltzer reported after the show Saturday that AAA originally wanted to change the title, but AEW requested they not do that because Omega had just lost the Impact title the night before.

On Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer had further insight into the decision-making process that day.

He said that AAA originally wanted El Idolo to win while AEW preferred that didn’t happen, but that it wasn’t a contentious conversation. AEW originally didn’t want Omega to lose either the Impact or AAA belts before he lost the AEW title, but when they had to insert Christian Cage into the World title match at next month’s All Out, they needed to propel that program a bit more and thus moved ahead with the title change that happened on Friday.

“Once that happened, everything was different,” Meltzer said.

When Omega arrived in Mexico City, he didn’t know that Ric Flair was going to be with El Idolo. He then suggested they change the title after all and to get Flair involved in how it happened. Tony Khan was then brought into the conversation and was fine with the title change given how Omega proposed it.

However, AAA’s Dorian Roldan made the final call for Omega to retain as they have an idea for the title match they want to do next which could be Omega vs. Psycho Clown.

Andrade’s planned Triplemania title win held off at AEW’s request

Andrade El Idolo was originally scheduled to win the AAA Mega Championship from Kenny Omega at Triplemania, but AEW asked the promotion to hold off, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Meltzer said that AEW has control over Omega’s finishes in other promotions and asked AAA to not have him lose Saturday in Mexico City. Meltzer speculated it was because the AEW World Champion lost the Impact World title to Christian Cage on AEW Rampage Friday night and didn’t want Omega to lose two nights in a row.

Omega’s next scheduled title defense will be at All Out when he faces Cage once again. It’s unknown when he will next defend the AAA title and if it will be against his fellow AEW roster mate once again.

Omega retained the AAA title over El Idolo Saturday in a match that saw Ric Flair make a surprise appearance to be in El Idolo’s corner. Omega was setting up to hit El Idolo with a chair shot but Flair intervened. Konnan (in Omega’s corner) also got involved and after a chaotic scene that saw Flair put Konnan in a figure four, Omega eventually hit El Idolo with the title belt and after hitting the One Winged Angel, he pinned El Idolo to retain.

AAA Triplemania XXIX live results: Kenny Omega vs. Andrade El Idolo

For the first time ever, Kenny Omega and Andrade El Idolo will go one-on-one in the main event of AAA’s TripleMania XXIX Saturday in Mexico City, Mexico, in front of live fans.

While the two are AEW roster mates, they will be competing over Omega’s AAA Mega Championship in his first title defense since last year’s TripleMania when he defeated Laredo Kid. Omega has held the belt since October 2019.

Saturday’s event will also see Psycho Clown vs. Rey Escorpion in a mask vs. hair match.

The Lucha Bros return to defend their AAA Tag Team titles in a three-way against Hijo del Vikingo & Laredo Kid and Taurus & a mystery partner. Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix have held the titles since June 2019.

The rest of the seven-match card includes Deonna Purrazzo defending her Impact Knockouts title against Reina da Reinas Champion Faby Apache in a title vs. title match, a Team AAA vs. La Empresa trios bout, a Marvel lucha libre exhibition match and more.

Pimpinela and Mamba eliminated each other and there was a brawl at ringside for some reason.

Our live coverage begins at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Team Leyenda Americana vs. Team Terror Purpura in a Marvel Lucha Libre exhibition match

Team Terror Purpura is formed by Picadura Letal, Venonoide (Black Taurus) and Terror Purpura (Brian Cage). Team Leyenda American is formed by Estrella Cosmica, Aracno and Leyenda Americana.

Aracno ( Hijo Del Vikingo) came out to the ring in a similar fashion to Shawn Michaels in WM XII, but upside down.Meanwhile, Leyenda America (Octagon Jr.) came out to the ring riding a motorcycle.

Estrella Cosmica and Picadura Letal were the first ones to begin the match for their respective teams. Leyenda America and Aracno made double asai moonsaults on Venenoide and Terror Purpura.

Team Terror Purpurs worked on Aracno for a while and prevented him from getting a tag, but after countering a power slam into a DDT, Aracno was able to tag Leyenda Americana.

Leyenda America had victory on his hands thanks to a 450 spalash on Terror Purpura, but he kicked out at 2.9.

When Terror Purpura wa sabout to use a Gotch Style Pilediriver on Leyenda Americana, El Furioso (Hulk) appeared and prevented anythign from happening. Furioso and Terror Pupura stared at each other for the rest of the match and allowing Team Leyenda American to win the match thanks to a 360 from Aracno to Venenoide.

After the match, El Engañoso (Loki) appeared to warn Team Leyenda Americana that this is not over.

Winners: Team Leyenda Americana.

Copa Triplemania Bardahl match

The first entrant was Myztziz Jr. who came out to the ring his new born baby. The second entrant was Carta Brava Jr. who came out with a mask paying tribute to Brazo de Plata.

The third entrant was Aramis and the fourth was Tito Santana. The fifth and sixth entrants were Drago and Niño Hamburgesa, but no one was elminated so far. La Parka appeared out of nowhere to attack Drago and were able to elimatinate him.

Aramis for some reason jumped from the top rope and eliminated himself, a BotchaMania moment. In one of the best spots of the match was when Pimpinela tried to kiss Mr. iguana, but Mr. Iguana was able to used his stuffed Iguana to prevent that from happening, but Pimpinela was still able to kidd Mr. Iguana on his second attempt.

Octagon Jr. instead of entering the ring, he decided to hangout with the commentators for a while.El Villano III Jr. noticed him and challenged him to enter the ring.

Pimpinela and Mamba eliminated each other and a blattle at ringside took place for no reason at all. The last two wrestlers were Carta Brava and Mr Iguana and at the end, Iguana was able to prevail.

Winner: Mr. Iguana.

After the match, La Nueva Generacion Dinamita made their AAA debut and destroyed Mr. Iguana and any wrestler that came to the ring. NGD cut promos burying modern day lucha libre and AAA. El Poder del Norte appeared to confront NGD, but La Empresa came out and helped NGD destroy Poder del Norte. Dark days are to come for AAA.

AAA Reina de Reinas champion Faby Apache (Lady Shani) vs. IMPACT Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo (w/ Lady Maravilla) in a Champion vs. Champion match

Deonna Purrazzo made an unexpected appearance on the Rey de Reyes show that took place in San Pedro Chula back in May to challenge Faby Apache. At first, Apache was not interested on Purrazzo’s challenge until she put her on an armbar. Purrazzo would later return to AAA for the Verano de Escandalo show for a match with Lady Shani and after winning that match, she confronted Apache once more. This match has the AAA Reina de Reinas and The IMPACT Knockouts titles on the line.

Purrazzo worked as a heel or I should  ruda on this match. Laday Maravilla helped Purrazzo on several ocassions to get an advantage over Apache. Jijo del Tirantes had some questionable actions as a ref, but then again, that’s not new.

Faby Apache had a nearfall on Deonna Purrazzo thanks to a shining wizard. Purrazzo got a nearfall over Apache after several german suplex and a fast count from Tirantes. Apache was clos eon getting the win, but Tirantes interfered. Deonna Purrazzo won this match by submission thanks to a Fujiwara Armbar.

Winner: Deonna Purrazzo.

After the match, Purrazzo and Apache keept fighting. Apache tried to have payback on Hijo del Tirantes, but he escaped.

Lucha Bros (C) vs. Los Jinetes del Aire (Hijo del Vikingo & Laredo Kid) vs. Taurus & Brian Cage for the AAA World Tag Team Championships

This match doesn’t have a build and it just exists to be a really cool match. Penta and Fenix came out to the ring with their AEW theme that has Alex Abrahantes singing the lyrics. That’s the random trivia portion of this live update.

Taurus and Cage dominated the first portion of the amtch thanks to their strength. Once Laredo was able to take advantage of his speed, he did a lot of cool things in a matter of seconds.

Penta and Black Taurus had a stare down to determine who had the better gear. The winner was clearly Penta Joker. Hijo del Vikingo had the most impressive Croyt’s Wrath you’ll ever see when he picked up Black Taurus for it.

Los Jinetes del Aire had vicotry in their hands when they went for double 450 splashes on Taurus and Fenix, but both were able to kick out.

I’m gonna be honest, there’s a lot of cool stuff happening and no time to describe it. Vikingo, Fenix and Laredo Kid are just awesome luchadores. Hijo del Vikingo made a shooting star press from the barricade to Brian Cage.

Lucha Bros thanks to a fear factor on Hijo del Vikingo were able to retain  their AAA world tag team championships.

Winners: Lucha Bros.

Team AAA (Pagano, Chessman & Murder Clown) vs. Team La Empresa (Puma King, Sam Adonis & DMT Azul)

A match build around the evil invaders (former CMLL luchadores) against the AAA luchadores. It will be interesting to see if Pagano and Chessman will be able to cOeXiSt. Chessman and Pagano have never been able to set aside their difference and this match most likely will not be the exception.

During La Empresa’s entrance, Sam Adonis was taunting the fans and he got slapped in the face. It was pretty funny.

From the moment this match began, there was a lot of plunder and this should not be surprising considering who is involved in this match.

After a while of struggle, Team AAA were to take the lead. Pagano used a stappler on this amtch and the crowd love it. Pagano tried to do a brillo dorado, but looked rough.

Pagano and Chessman couldn’t cOeXisT and La Empresa took advantage of that to win the match.

Winners: La Empresa.

After the match, La Empresa attacked Team AAA. After the match, DMT Azul cut a promo similar to the one NGD cut earlier on the show.

Kenny Omega (C) (w/ Konnan) vs. Andrade El Idolo (w/ Ric Flair) for the AAA Mega Championship

This will be Kenny Omega’s return after last year’s Triplemania where he faced Laredo Kid in an excellent title defense match. This match will also be Andrade’s first match under the AAA banner, before his signing to WWE, he worked for CMLL as La Sombra. The match itself doesn’t have much of a build, but just a few videos here and there.

Andrade and Konnan had a backtage segment. Andrade told Konnan he didn’t want him as his second because he had some else planned. Konnan went to Kenny Omega’s private locker room and talked about a working relationship.

Andrade El Idolo came out to the ring with Ric Flair as his second for this match, for the shock of everyone, including myself.

During the match, Kenny Omega mocked Andrade and even did Ric Flair’s taunt. Ric Flair was having a blast at ringside. Omehga and Andrade had an exchange of lock, but thing were equal.

Omega and Andrade had a back and forth of giving each other tijeras. It was awesome. Andrade went for an Asai Moonsault, but Omega countered and threw him off to prevent anything from happening.

Omega worked Andrade’s neck for a good portion of the match and setting up for the One Winged Angel. Andrade had a great combo of a back breaker and throwing Omega face first into Bret’s rope.

Andrade had the sickest tornillo you’ll see today, an increible move from Andrade. Andrade had a near after several moonsaults on Kenny, but the current AAA Mega Champion was able to kick out on time.

Ric Flair got angry at Hijo del Tirantes terrible work as a ref and it was about damn time some got angry at him. Omega and Andrade had an exchange of counters and it was awesome, it’s something you need to watch.

Ric Flair prevented Omega attack Andrade with the title and both gave Konnan and Omega what they dseserved for being rudos.

Ric Flair prevented Omega attack Andrade with the title and both gave Konnan and Omega what they dseserved for being rudos. After all the confusion, Omega was able to hit Andrade with the title and used the One Winged Anegel to win an awesome match.

Winner: Kenny Omega.

With this win, Kenny Omega comes close to Texano Jr.’s record of the AAA Mega Champion with the most days as champion with 735 days and with Kenny only being 77 days away from breaking the record. Kenny Omega also in the second place as the AAA Mega Champion with most successful title defenses with 5 (Texano Jr. also holds thar record with 9 successful title defenses).

Psycho Clown vs. Rey Escorpion in a Lucha de Apuestas: Mask vs. Hair match

Back in 2013, Rey Escorpion had a hair vs. hair match with the Brazo de Plata (Father of Psycho Clown) for CMLL and Rey Escorpion won that match. A few years later, when Escorpion joined AAA and he immediately started feuding with Psycho Clown and things have escalated to where we are now. Psycho Clown will look to revenge the lose his father suffered a years ago with Escorpion.

On a side note, Psycho Clown’s mask (made by his wife, Zaraida Casas who’s the daughter of Negro Casas) pays tribute to his late father Brazo de Plata. Psycho Clown also wore Super Porky’s jacket for his entrance.

AAA had a great tribute video of all the luchadores that passed way this year. Even those that didn’t have a relationship with AAA.

Rey Escorpion interrupted the tribute and attacked Psycho Clown. Clown and Escorpion brawled all over the place, from ringside to the middle of the crowd.

As expected on this type of match, Rey Escorpion tore Psycho Clown’s mask. The match also featured ringside stuff with the second of each other brawling as well.

Rey Escorpion hit Clown with a freaking lamp and it exploded. Escorpion proceed to chairshot Clow to the head, but the pin only got to two. Escorpion proceeded to stab Clown on the forehead with a broken bottle.

Rey Scorpion tried to break another bottle on Clown’s head , but he was able to counter and break the bottle on Escorpion’s head. Clown also proceeded to stab Escorpion in his forehead .

After killing each other, Clown and Escorpion started to feel the effects of all the blunder they did to each other. Both had a few nearfalls on each other.

When Psycho Clown was about to win, La Hiedra and El Samoano appeared on Escorpion’s favor. Gpya Kong (Psycho Clown’s sister) betrayed him.  Clown won this match with a roll-up and a low blow.

Winner: Psycho Clown.

After the match, Rey Escorpion cut a promo about accepting defeating and asking that his daughter be the one to cut his hair.

Overall Thoughts

Triplemania XXIX was fun show. The only negatives of this show were Purrazzo vs. Apache and the amount of overbooking it had. The Copa Triplemania as as caotic as previous years, so that was predictable.

The main event, The AAA world tag team championship match and the AAA Mega cchampionship match were the highlights of the show. The MOTN depends of your wrestling taste, there’s no wrong answer.

The debut of NGD was really well done and looked like a big deal tonight. It was nWo-esque and it worked big time.
