New Women’s Tag Team Champions crowned on WWE Raw

Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

The Judgment Day’s Morgan and Rodriguez unseated Bianca Belair and Naomi as champs in the main event of Monday’s WWE Raw to capture the Women’s Tag titles for a record third time.

The main event featured interference from Dominik Mysterio on behalf of Morgan and Rodriguez, including near the finish where Mysterio jumped on the apron to distract Naomi. Naomi hit Morgan with her finisher, then pulled Mysterio into the ring. In the ensuing chaos, Morgan stole the pin.

Belair and Naomi’s title reign ends after 177 days, although Naomi was part of the team for just the final 73 days of the reign, as she replaced Jade Cargill who was written out of storylines with a cliffhanger injury angle that has yet to be fully paid off.

Rodriguez and Morgan have now captured the titles three times as a duo, the most in the six-year history of the championship. Rodriguez is a four-time Women’s Tag champ having also held the titles with Aliyah for two weeks in 2022.

Lyra Valkyria crowned first-ever WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion

The first-ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion has been crowned.

Lyra Valkyria defeated Dakota Kai in the finals of the tournament to crown the first-ever champion on Monday’s Raw. The finish had Valkyria move out of the way as Kai was going for a running boot to the corner. Valkyria then hit the nightwing in the middle of the ring for the victory.

After the win, Raw GM Adam Pearce awarded the title to Valkyria as she posed on the turnbuckle, pyro going off as she celebrated.

WWE announced the championship back in November, shortly after they introduced the Women’s United States title on SmackDown. Kai defeated Katana Chance and Shanya Baszler then Zoey Stark in the finals while Valkyria defeated Zelina Vega and Ivy Nile followed by IYO SKY.

In December, Chelsea Green defeated Michin to become the first-ever Women’s United States Champion. In a rematch, Green defeated Michin once again on Friday’s SmackDown to retain the title. NXT was the first to introduce a secondary women’s title with Kelani Jordan becoming the first-ever Women’s North American Champion, a title now held by Fallon Henley.

IYO SKY advances to WWE Women’s IC title tournament semifinals

IYO SKY has advanced to the semifinals of the WWE Women’s Intercontinental title tournament.

SKY defeated Natalya and Alba Fyre in a triple threat quarterfinals matchup on Monday’s taped WWE Raw to move on to the semifinals, joining Lyra Valkyria, Dakota Kai, and Zoey Stark in the semis.

Both semifinals matches will be held on next week’s Raw, the final episode of the show on USA Network before the franchise moves to Netflix beginning on January 6. SKY will face Valkyria, plus Kai will take on Stark. The SKY vs. Valkyria semifinal bout is a matchup of two former NXT Women’s Champions.

Next week’s announced WWE Raw lineup:

  • CM Punk & Seth Rollins under one roof
  • Women’s Intercontinental title tournament semifinals: Dakota Kai vs. Zoey Stark
  • Women’s Intercontinental title tournament semifinals: IYO SKY vs. Lyra Valkyria
  • Chad Gable vs. Otis
  • Damian Priest, Erik & Ivar vs. Finn Balor, JD McDonagh & Carlito
  • R-Truth vs. Pete Dunne

Zoey Stark advances to WWE Women’s IC title tournament semifinals

The first semifinals match in the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship tournament is set following Monday’s Raw.

Zoey Stark won a triple threat quarterfinals bout on Monday’s Raw to advance to the semifinals in the tournament to crown the first-ever WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion.

Stark pinned Kayden Carter in the quarterfinals on Monday’s episode in a match that also featured Raquel Rodriguez to advance to the semifinals.

Dakota Kai has already qualified for the semifinals in their half of the bracket, so Stark vs. Kai is the first semifinal bout set. On the other side of the bracket, Lyra Valkyria awaits the winner of the remaining quarterfinals triple threat bout between Natalya, Kairi Sane, and Alba Fyre.

In addition to the introduction of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, WWE introduced the Women’s United States Championship with a tournament on the SmackDown brand that culminated in Chelsea Green being crowned the inaugural champion after winning the tournament finals at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Dakota Kai advances in WWE Women’s Intercontinental title tournament

The tournament to crown a Women’s Intercontinental Champion is officially underway.

Dakota Kai won the first opening round match on Raw, pinning Katana Chance with a scorpion kick in a match that also featured Shayna Baszler of the Pure Fusion Collective. She’ll now face the winner of the three-way between Zoey Stark, Raquel Rodriguez, and Kayden Carter in the semifinals.

The bracket for the Women’s Intercontinental title tournament was revealed shortly before Raw began on Monday. The other side of the bracket will see Lyra Valkyria, Zelina Vega, and Ivy Nile as well as Alba Fyre, Kairi Sane, and Natalya do battle to determine the other two spots in the semifinals. It isn’t known when the finals to crown the first-ever champion will take place.

A similar tournament is taking place on SmackDown, where the first Women’s United States Champion will be crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14. The final opening round match between Naomi, Tiffany Stratton, and Elektra Lopez.

WWE introduces Women’s Intercontinental Championship

Another new title has been introduced in WWE.

Shortly before Raw began, a presentation was held with WWE Raw GM Adam Pearce in the ring. It was here that he unveiled the newest title in WWE, the Women’s Intercontinental title. The segment later aired prior to the main event of Monday’s show.

In his speech, Pearce talked about the Intercontinental title being the workhorse title of the promotion. He felt the same way about the women’s division of the Raw brand, saying they have proven how they are the true workhorses of the company. He then unvieled the title, which has a similar design to the men’s Intercontinental title but with a white strap. No further details were announced.

This is the third title introduced for WWE’s women’s division this year. Kelani Jordan became the first Women’s North American Champion this past summer for the NXT brand. Earlier this month, Nick Aldis introduced the Women’s United States Championship for the SmackDown brand. A tournament is currently underway to determine the first-ever champion, who will be crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14.

IYO SKY earns future Women’s World title match on WWE Raw

IYO SKY has earned herself a future Women’s World title match.

SKY won the battle royal held on Monday’s Raw in Saudi Arabia. The final four had Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, Lyra Valkyria, and SKY. The WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions dominated, but interference from Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez led to both being eliminated. The champions chased Morgan and Rodriguez to the back as Valkyria and SKY remained in the ring. The two fought on the apron until SKY hit a German suplex on the apron, eliminating Valkyria to win the match.

The start of the show saw Morgan and Rodriguez come out to declare the Liv Morgan Revenge Tour was over and the world tour was now starting. Morgan mentioned that she and Rodriguez took out Rhea Ripley last week on NXT. Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair interrupted the two, with Morgan attempting to create tension between the champions. The effort failed as Adam Pearce came out to announce the battle royal.

Morgan was victorious at Crown Jewel on Saturday, defeating Nia Jax thanks to interference from members of Judgment Day.

Women’s World title match set for next week’s WWE Raw

Liv Morgan will defend the Women’s World title, plus the final MITB qualifiers will take place on the July 1 WWE Raw.

Morgan vs. Zelina Vega for the Women’s World Championship is official for next week’s Raw following an in-ring brawl between the two on this week’s episode. Stemming from the same angle where Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio broke up the brawl, Rey vs. Dominik is also set for next week’s show.

The final Money in the Bank qualifying bouts are also set for the July 1 Raw.

Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and Ilja Dragunov will square off in a triple threat to determine the last entrant in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match next week.

In the final women’s MITB qualifier, Zoey Stark vs. Dakota Kai vs. Ivy Nile will face off in a triple threat.

The announced card for the Monday, July 1 WWE Raw:

  • Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio
  • Men’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus vs. Ilja Dargunov
  • Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Zoey Stark vs. Dakota Kai vs. Ivy Nile

WWE crowns new number one contenders for Women’s Tag Team titles

WWE has crowned new top contenders to Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill’s Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark won a four-way bout on Monday’s WWE Raw to become the new number one contenders to the Women’s Tag Team titles held by Belair & Cargill.

No date has been announced for the Belair & Cargill vs. Baszler & Stark title match, but the bout could be announced for Saturday’s King and Queen of the Ring PLE pre-show should Belair be eliminated from the Queen of the Ring tournament on this Friday’s SmackDown episode.

It was also mentioned in a digital exclusive that Indi Hartwell & Candice LeRae would be getting a title shot as well, and Baszler & Stark may face them if they are successful.

The four-way match on Raw also featured the teams of Kairi Sane & Dakota Kai of Damage CTRL, Ivy Nile & Maxxine Dupri, plus Katana Chance & Kayden Carter. Baszler pinned Dupri to win the contest.

Belair & Cargill have held the Women’s Tag titles since defeating Sane & Asuka for the belts at Backlash on May 4 in France.

January 15, 2007 Observer Newsletter: Triple H, WWE Raw

The injury to HHH, who suffered a torn tendon in his right quadriceps while performing a spinebuster to Randy Orton on the 1/7 New Year’s Revolution PPV, has changed all future plans.

With John Cena vs. HHH the front-runner as the Mania main event, the entire card was thrown out the window and during this week they are going to be brainstorming to put together a new show. The tentative (never finalized) plan of Bobby Lashley vs. Great Khali for the ECW title at Mania was thrown out and Khali was moved to Raw as one of the first moves made.

No matches are official for Wrestlemania. The only match left from the original plans still on the books is the Batista vs. Undertaker title vs. streak match. And that could be off the books by the end of the week as well. Hulk Hogan vs. Khali was talked about, and Khali’s move to Raw was based partly on the idea of making a monster opponent for Hogan if Big Show doesn’t heal up in time or come to terms.
