Matt Hardy teases final tag team showdown with Cage & Cope after AEW Double or Nothing

Matt Hardy celebrated Cage and Cope’s AEW Double or Nothing win while teasing one final chapter between the legendary tag teams someday.

Hardy congratulated the new AEW Tag Team Champions with a throwback photo with them, himself and Jeff Hardy. He teased that they had ‘one more night of magic’ left in them potentially indicating a collision along the way.

“Congrats to @Christian4Peeps & @RatedRCope on becoming @AEW Tag Team Champs. Great stuff! Not sure where, not sure when.. But we’ve got ONE more night of magic left in us.”

The Hardy Boyz and Cage & Cope were instrumental to WWE’s tag team division in the Attitude Era. They modified the division with intense and chaotic TLC and ladder matches, becoming must-see attractions for tag team gold. And their rivalries remain some of the most influential feuds in wrestling history.

The Hardy Boyz were reunited in AEW from 2020 to 2024 before returning to TNA where they are active competitors.

At AEW Double or Nothing on May 24, Cage and Cope defeated FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) in a New York Street Fight ‘I Quit’ match to win the titles. Had they lost, they would have been forced to retire as a tag team.

Hardy Boyz say they are in ‘constant negotiations’ with WWE over new projects

The Hardy Boyz want to stay in TNA, but also work with WWE.

In a new interview with Metro, Matt Hardy said they still talk with their former company over new projects.

“We’re in constant negotiations with WWE about doing some more stuff,” he said. “We will do more with them.”

Matt also said that it was important for them to stay in TNA and work with WWE as opposed to being a full-time WWE act. Despite this, he said that fans should expect them to pop up more on WWE and NXT television in 2026.

“It was very important to us to stay at TNA as opposed to becoming a WWE full-time act [again],” he said. ‘In TNA, we’re going to be put in a position to succeed, and we can contribute, and we can help the company grow and be better. And the relationship with WWE has been great. Anytime we’ve interacted with Shawn Michaels, he was absolutely awesome – Triple H, whoever, we’ve got along with everybody really good. I think you’re going to see some more cool Hardy Boyz moments in WWE before it’s all said and done in 2026.”

The Hardy Boyz appeared on NXT television a few times in 2025, at one point winning the NXT Tag Team titles in October. They lost the titles back to DarkState at Halloween Havoc later that month.

New match, stipulation added to WWE NXT Halloween Havoc

A new match and a stipulation has been added to NXT Halloween Havoc.

Saturday’s show will now see The Hardy Boyz defend the NXT Tag Team titles against DarkState in a Broken Rules match. During a DarkState promo on Tuesday’s NXT, The Hardyz interrupted and talked about DarkState’s attack last week, walking around Matt’s estate. Senor Benjamin, Matt’s wife Rebecca, and the Hardy children were all seen as the Hardyz walked into the Lake of Reincarnation. When they emerged, they became Broken Matt and Brother Nero. Matt said that their match at Halloween Havoc would now be a Broken Rules match, meaning anything goes.

Leon Slater and Je’Von Evans on Tuesday were looking to team together at Halloween Havoc after forming a bond following their match at Bound for Glory. After Slater successfully defended the TNA X Division title against Stacks, the two issued a challenge to anyone from the main roster or NXT. AAA’s Mr. Iguana and La Parka came out instead and the two teams agreed to meet on Saturday.

There is also a change to the Women’s NXT North American title match. After Sol Ruca announced she was not medically cleared, Blake Monroe came out and demanded she be given the title. Ruca and Ava ultimately agreed that Zaria could replace Ruca in the title match.

Here is the updated lineup for Halloween Havoc:

WWE NXT Halloween Havoc (October 25) —

  • NXT Champion Ricky Saints defends against Trick Williams
  • NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne defends against Tatum Paxley
  • Broken rules match for the NXT Tag Team Champions The Hardys defend against DarkState
  • Day of the Dead match: NXT North American Champion Ethan Page defends against El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.
  • NXT Women’s North American Championship: Zaria defends for Sol Ruca against Blake Monroe
  • Leon Slater & Je’Von Evans vs. Mr. Iguana & La Parka

New double champions crowned at WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown

The Hardy Boyz are NXT Tag Team Champions.

Matt and Jeff captured became double champions in the opening match of NXT vs. TNA Showdown on Tuesday, defeating DarkState members Osiris Griffin and Dion Lennox to become NXT Tag Team Champions and retaining the TNA Tag Team titles. The finish had Matt hitting the twist of fate on both men as Jeff went to the top rope and connected with the swanton bomb, pinning Lennox to win the titles.

The other two members of DarkState, Saquon Shugars and Cutler James, attempted to interfere before the match started. However, they were sent ouf of the ring by the Hardyz and the referee threw them out. When announcing the match last week, NXT General Manager Ava said there would be no interference in the match and there must be a winner.

The Hardyz are now set to face The Dudley Boyz/Team 3D at Bound for Glory in a tables match. Bubba Ray and D-Von were both in the crowd on Tuesday, and the two legendary teams had a staredown after the match.

DarkState had been champions for 45 days, defeating Hank & Tank at NXT Heatwave on August 24. The Hardys have been TNA Tag Team Champions since July 20 after winning a four-way ladder match at Slammiversary.

The Hardy Boyz, Dudleyz appear at WWE SummerSlam

Two all-time great tag teams were in attendance for night two of WWE SummerSlam 2025.

In honor of August being the 25th anniversary of the first-ever TLC match, The Hardy Boyz and Dudleyz attended SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey tonight and were shown in the front row. Along with Edge & Christian, they pioneered the TLC match with the bout first taking place at SummerSlam 2000.

Edge & Christian, the victors of the inaugural tables, ladders & chairs match, are both signed to AEW and therefore were not at SummerSlam tonight. Michael Cole did mention them on commentary, however.

WWE recently did a countdown of the top 25 matches in SummerSlam history, ranking The Hardyz vs. Dudleyz vs. Edge & Christian at number six.

Matt & Jeff Hardy are the current TNA Tag Team Champions — and they’re set to face off against Bubba Ray & D-Von Dudley one last time at TNA Bound for Glory this October. With the close working relationship WWE has with TNA, Cole plugged the Bound for Glory matchup when the two legendary teams appeared tonight.

The SmackDown tag division was featured in a six-pack TLC match on tonight’s card, with Dexter Lumis & Joe Gacy of The Wyatt Sicks defeating Motor City Machine Guns, The Street Profits, DIY, Fraxiom, and Andrade & Rey Fenix to retain the WWE Tag Team titles.

D-Von Dudley addresses returning for one final match

D-Von Dudley insists that his next match will truly be his final one.

At TNA Slammiversary, it was revealed that The Dudley Boyz and Hardys will face off for one last time at Bound for Glory this October. It will only be the fourth match D-Von has had since 2016. Following a seven-year absence, he returned to the ring on the 1,000th episode of TNA Impact in 2023.

D-Von suffered a stroke in 2020 and underwent spinal surgery in 2022, but he’s feeling good physically after dropping 85 pounds through DDP Yoga and focusing on his diet. Appearing on a new episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, D-Von said he is not worried about getting injured by returning to the ring.

“Is there moments where I feel like if I get back in the ring, I’m going to get hurt? No, I don’t,” he said. “I have the wrestling school in Winter Park, Florida, which is doing extremely well. And the great thing about that is, is that I roll around with some of the guys sometimes in the ring. So every once in a while I take bumps and I feel good when I’m in there. So there’s no hesitation in how I think or feel about what I do in that ring now.”

The Insight episode was recorded last week prior to Slammiversary, so D-Von’s Bound for Glory return had not been officially announced at the time. D-Von told Van Vliet that, if he were to wrestle again, it would only be for one final match and not a more expansive run.

“But, you know, at 50 years old, I don’t want to go in here and do it, like I said, until I’m 70 and 80. That’s not going to happen. If we were to do one more match, it would be the last one and that would be it,” he said. “There is no one more, ‘Can you come back one more time, one more time?’ No, because — and I tell this to everybody when they ask — I go, every time I do one more time, that one more time is over, let a year go by, ‘Hey, you guys look great, you can go another match.’ No, we can’t, stop, stop.”

D-Von added that The Hardys would be the ideal opponents for his final match because of how much he trusts Matt and Jeff.

“If I was to do anything in the ring again, it would have to be with Matt and Jeff,” D-Von said. “And, you know, I would say Edge and Christian too, but they’re in the other, you know, organization, AEW, and I don’t think that would ever happen. When the opportunity came, when Edge left WWE and went to AEW, you had Christian and Edge there, and then The Hardys were there. And it was like, we were wondering why, you know, Tony [Khan], who is a huge fan of the business and always had it, why wouldn’t he take the opportunity to be the one to put those three teams together and to do that, but he never did. So I think that opportunity is lost.

“But, you know, if I was to come back and do something, it would have to be with The Hardys. And those are the only two I trust. Even though I think Jeff is out of his damn mind [laughs], but those are the only two I would trust [with] my body on the line and to go in there one more time.”

Bound for Glory 2025 is being held at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts on October 12. The Dudleyz vs. Hardys match was set up for the pay-per-view when Bully Ray issued a challenge to Matt and Jeff following their TNA Tag Team title win at Slammiversary.

D-Von worked as a producer for WWE from 2016-2023. At the end of 2024, he launched a new YouTube channel that has now grown to having more than 160,000 subscribers.

The Hardy Boyz set for GCW return

The Hardy Boyz are set to make an appearance for Game Changer Wrestling during SummerSlam weekend in New Jersey.

GCW has announced Matt & Jeff Hardy for the promotion’s Hit Em Up show on Friday, August 1. It’s stated that The Hardys will be appearing live, but there are no opponents announced or confirmation on whether Matt & Jeff will be competing.

The GCW show is being held at Williams Center in Rutherford, New Jersey and will air live on TrillerTV+.

Jeff Hardy debuted for GCW with an appearance in 2023 while his brother Matt worked a couple of dates for the indie group in 2024. Back in April of this year, the two defeated D-Von Dudley’s sons Terrell & Terrence at a For The Culture event that GCW was involved in promoting.

The Hardys will also be signing autographs and taking pictures with fans at WrestleCon’s SummerSlam weekend convention in Newark, New Jersey on August 1-2. After that, they’ll be in Maine on August 9 to wrestle for indie promotion Limitless Wrestling.

At TNA Slammiversary last night, The Hardys won a four-way ladder match to become the new TNA Tag Team Champions. There was then an angle setting up that Matt & Jeff will face The Dudley Boyz for one final time at TNA Bound for Glory this October.

The Hardy Boyz want WWE NXT Tag Team title shot

The Hardy Boyz’s victory at Roadblock looks to have set up a future NXT Tag Team title match.

Matt & Jeff Hardy retained their TNA Tag Team titles against Nathan Frazer & Axiom at NXT Roadblock in New York City on Tuesday night. Fraxiom are the current NXT Tag Team Champions, but their belts were not on the line. The Hardyz now want to face Fraxiom again for those titles.

“Their human hearts are more like rocket boosters, that’s the fastest team I’ve ever been in the ring with,” Jeff Hardy said about Fraxiom. “And my question is: Do we get a shot at the NXT tag titles now?”

“They’re incredible. I cannot put them over enough. They are amazing, and they are the NXT Tag Team Champions for very specific reasons, because they’re incredible,” Matt said. “Tonight we were defending the TNA World Tag team titles and we were able to retain them. But we did beat them, unfortunately the NXT titles weren’t on the line. Maybe next time the NXT titles will be on the line. Because that is something The Hardyz do not have on their list of gold.”

Axiom called last night’s match a dream come true and said he wants to face Matt & Jeff again in a rematch.

After their loss, Fraxiom got a pep talk from Bubba Ray Dudley backstage:

If The Hardyz do become NXT tag champs, it would be their first WWE title reign as a team since 2019. They’ve recently competed in two NXT matches because of the partnership that exists between WWE and TNA. We could eventually see The Hardyz appear on Raw or SmackDown as well, with WWE reportedly optimistic that Matt & Jeff will have a main roster run this spring/summer.

Matt Hardy on WWE NXT experience: ‘They’ve been so great to us’

Matt Hardy is having a great experience in his return to WWE.

For each of the past two weeks, The Hardy Boyz have appeared on NXT. Matt & Jeff will be back on the show next Tuesday defending their TNA Tag Team titles against Nathan Frazer & Axiom. It’s a special Roadblock episode of NXT taking place from The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

On his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt said everyone in NXT has been great to The Hardyz and has treated them with respect.

“It’s been incredible,” Matt said. “I can’t really put it over enough. I mean, they’ve been so great to us. The way they have treated us as such legends and just like — they act so honored. ‘Thank you so much for doing this. Thank you for coming out and being a part of this.'”

Matt also expressed appreciation for how NXT’s fans have responded to The Hardyz.

“It was great,” Matt said about the reaction they got on NXT this week. “I mean, we came out [on Tuesday night] and the crowd was so loud. And even right before we went out and Shawn [Michaels] came up. He said, ‘Hey, I know these people are going to be real hyped to see you and they’re going to be cheering and popping. But if you can, we’d like to keep the show on time. Just try and, you know, kind of get it going. You know, soak it in, but just kind of keep it going.’ That was great. But Shawn’s been incredible. Matt Bloom has been great. Everybody has. The whole experience has been so, so, so, so fun.”

For Matt & Jeff, this is the first time they’ve been back with WWE since 2020 and 2021 respectively. Their NXT appearances are happening because of the partnership that exists between WWE and TNA Wrestling. Matt said The Hardyz are having the time of their life in TNA. Both WWE and TNA feel like home, though Matt thinks WWE would be the right place for The Hardyz to end their career when that time comes.

We’ve only seen The Hardyz on NXT in their WWE return so far, but WWE is reportedly optimistic about them working a main roster program this spring/summer.

The Hardy Boyz appearance added to WWE NXT

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy will appear on Tuesday’s WWE NXT.

WWE revealed during Monday’s Raw that The Hardy Boyz, the current TNA Tag Team Champions, will appear on the Tuesday, March 4 episode of NXT.

The Hardys will defend the TNA Tag Team titles against Fraxiom (NXT Tag Team Champions Nathan Frazer & Axiom) on the Tuesday, March 11 NXT show from New York City.

Three matches are also set for this week’s NXT, with North American Champion Tony D’Angelo defending against Shawn Spears, Kelani Jordan vs. Jaida Parker, plus WWE Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green and Piper Niven taking on Sol Ruca and Zaria in tag team action.

The announced lineup for the Tuesday, March 4 WWE NXT:

  • TNA Tag Team Champions Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy appear
  • NXT North American Champion Tony D’Angelo defends against Shawn Spears
  • Chelsea Green & Piper Niven vs. Sol Ruca & Zaria
  • Kelani Jordan vs. Jaida Parker

Report: WWE optimistic about Hardy Boyz main roster run this spring/summer

WWE is optimistic that Matt and Jeff Hardy will have a main roster run in the coming months.

The current TNA World Tag Team Champions are set to wrestle No Quarter Catch Crew’s Tavion Heights and Myles Borne on tonight’s episode of NXT, marking their first time teaming in WWE since 2019. The match is part of the ongoing partnership between WWE and TNA.

WWEShop.com has released a special edition Hardy Boyz t-shirt ahead of their return, labeled a “special event item.”

According to WrestleVotes on Tuesday, WWE’s new Hardy Boyz merchandise could signal the start of a bigger plan. Officials are optimistic that the brothers will wrestle on Raw or SmackDown in the coming months:

“WWE has dropped a brand new Hardy Boyz shirt ahead of their NXT return tonight. Internally, there’s buzz that this is just the beginning, with creative sources optimistic the legendary duo will have a main roster program sometime this spring / summer.”

Matt and Jeff Hardy appeared via video on NXT last week. On his podcast, Matt revealed the deal came together at the last minute:

“All this stuff — even us popping up and responding to that challenge on NXT, that was a very last-minute thing,” Hardy said. “So it’s going to be interesting. It’s going to be fun. I don’t know where this ride’s going. I really don’t want to know where this route is going in all capacities. Because I want, especially whatever we end up doing, I want everything to be as natural and as organic and as real as possible, as authentic as possible.”

The Hardys are also scheduled for this week’s TNA Impact, which was taped last week at Full Sail University. They will team with NXT Champion Oba Femi against The System’s Moose, Eddie Edwards, and Brian Myers.

The Hardy Boyz answer challenge on WWE NXT

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy made a surprise appearance via video promo on Tuesday’s WWE NXT to answer a challenge for next week’s episode.

After No Quarter Catch Crew’s Tavion Heights and Myles Borne threw down the gauntlet for The Hardy Boyz to face them on next week’s show, Matt and Jeff appeared via a video promo to answer the challenge, agreeing to face the NQCC duo.

The video promo was the first appearance on WWE TV by The Hardys since WWE and TNA officially announced their multi-year partnership. The Hardys currently hold TNA’s Tag Team titles, and hinted at a future match against NXT Tag champs Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer & Axiom) in their promo. That match was first teased at last month’s TNA Impact tapings in a social media post.

WWE’s chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque made a social media post on X to mark the occasion, noting that The Hardys had “re-defined” tag team wrestling for more than 25 years:

Report: The Hardys meet with WWE officials in Cleveland

Update —

Fightful reports that Matt & Jeff Hardy were meeting with WWE “to film content and interviews for upcoming documentaries.”

With both sides in Cleveland, The Hardy Boys reportedly had a meeting with WWE.

PWInsider reports that Matt & Jeff Hardy met with WWE officials in Cleveland on Friday morning, but there’s no word on what was discussed.

“We are told that The Hardys met with WWE very early this morning,” the report said. “No word on what was discussed, but we have also heard some content was filmed to be rolled out via WWE digital as well.”

Matt & Jeff Hardy are both currently free agents after departing AEW when their contracts with the promotion expired. When his deal came up in April, Matt stated that he was still talking with AEW and was speaking with WWE as well.

The Hardys are appearing at the Destination WrestleCon convention in Cleveland on Friday. Matt also has a match against Nick Gage for Game Changer Wrestling that’s taking place in the city tonight.

WWE SummerSlam is being held at Cleveland Browns Stadium this Saturday, though The Hardys are scheduled to be in Florida on Saturday for TNA Wrestling’s television tapings at the Florida State Fairgrounds.

Matt Hardy reacts to Jeff Hardy’s AEW debut

In a preview clip from his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy reacted to his brother Jeff signing with AEW.

Jeff Hardy made his AEW debut on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite, joining Sting and Darby Allin in saving Matt from a beatdown by the Andrade-Hardy Family Office. Matt was kicked out of the AHFO after taking the pin in their loss to Sting, Allin & Sammy Guevara at Revolution.

Matt said in the preview clip that Jeff joining AEW means that it’s time for them to cement their legacy as a tag team.

“It means that it is time for us to cement our legacy as the greatest tag team in all of space and time. And there’s one last major title we need to win, and that is the AEW World Tag Team titles,” Matt said.

Matt was also asked what signing with AEW means to Jeff.

“He’s hyped. It means a lot. It means a lot to both of us to go out as we came in, and especially on a big platform and also show why we are one of the greatest tag teams ever,” Matt said.

“I think you are going to see a very mature, experienced, and a Hardy Boyz team that is very hungry to prove they can still go in 2022.”

When asked about teams that The Hardy Boyz want to face in AEW, Matt named The Young Bucks, The Lucha Brothers, and AEW Tag Team Champions Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus.

Matt also tweeted after Jeff’s debut last night: “The emotion is real. We need each other more than people understand. #AEWDynamite”

In addition to being signed to AEW, The Hardy Boyz are set for a reunion tour of indie matches that will begin at a show for Big Time Wrestling this Saturday.
