Seth Rollins addresses knee injury angle: ‘I fooled the entire world’

During a Monday appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, new World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins addressed the ruse he pulled off at WWE SummerSlam.

Rollins — who had faked a knee injury for weeks — cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the World Heavyweight title from CM Punk at night one of SummerSlam. Punk had just won the belt from Gunther in the main event before Rollins emerged to cut his arch rival’s title reign short.

There were reports that Rollins’ injury was just an angle, but he kept kayfabe everywhere in the three weeks since losing to LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event. That included Rollins wearing a leg brace and using crutches when he guest hosted the Rich Eisen Show last month.

Today, he returned to the program to address his “injury.”

“Well, look, Rich, as much as I love you. And I love you. I love all of you guys,” Rollins responded when asked if he was actually hurt. “I cannot divulge my secrets right now. Tonight, tune in to Netflix. We will be live 8 p.m. Eastern/5 Pacific. Live globally. You can hear all of it, but I can’t get into too much here. I just wanted to come by and extend my gratitude to you guys and to let you know how much I appreciate you giving me a platform to fool the entire world, really. Fooled the entire world. There’s no other way to slice it. I fooled the entire world.”

Rollins said the payoff to the ruse was more beautiful than he could have expected, which makes up for the “excruciating” pain he experienced limping around on crutches everywhere for three weeks trying to make everyone believe he was injured.

To keep up appearances, Rollins enlisted the help of his wife Becky Lynch and their four-year-old daughter Roux, with Lynch even posting an Instagram video last month that showed Rollins limping on crutches as he tried to keep up with Roux.

“My wife is an unwilling participant in this ruse. She was very upset with me for making her lie to all of her friends and family for the better part of three weeks,” Rollins said. “She was very upset. I said, ‘Honey, just trust me. The payoff will be great.’

“My daughter, she thought it was a game. She thought it was a fun little game. I told her, ‘Daddy’s got a pretend boo-boo, let’s put it that way, for the next few weeks. So let’s just keep that on the low, you know?’ First thing she did is went and told her preschool teacher Ms. Joy. First thing she did. Immediately.”

Rollins is in New York City for tonight’s Raw, which is being held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It appears that his faction with Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed is going to be named “The Vision” with WWE recently filing a trademark for that term.

Dominik Mysterio defeats AJ Styles in WWE SummerSlam IC title match

Night two of SummerSlam 2025 saw Dominik Mysterio make a successful defense of his Intercontinental title.

Dominik is still Intercontinental Champion after defeating AJ Styles at Sunday’s event. The younger Dominik outsmarted his veteran challenger to get the win. Styles attempted to use a Calf Crusher submission, but Dominik had loosened his boot and was able to easily slip out of the move. He then struck Styles with the boot behind the referee’s back before delivering a frog splash for the three count.

There were multiple tributes to the legendary Eddie Guerrero during the match. For his entrance, Styles and his son Avery entered in a Guerrero-esque lowrider. Styles also played mind games with Dominik by wearing an outfit inspired by the gear Guerrero wore for SummerSlam 2005 — the pay-per-view where Guerrero and Rey Mysterio’s storyline famously culminated in a ladder match for the custody of Dominik

Another moment in the match saw Dominik pay tribute to Guerrero by faking that Styles had laid him out with a chair, but Styles followed suit by wrapping the chair around his head and faking like Dominik had hit him too.

Dominik’s Intercontinental title reign began at WrestleMania this April. He now has the chance to become a double champ later this month at Lucha Libre AAA’s Triplemania, where the AAA Mega Championship will be on the line in a four-way match between El Hijo del Vikingo, Dominik, Dragon Lee, and El Grande Americano. That August 16 show will stream on WWE’s YouTube channel in both English and Spanish.

Becky Lynch gets new theme music, wins WWE SummerSlam title match

Becky Lynch is still the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion — and Lyra Valkyria is out of chances to challenge her for the title.

The two Irish women met in a no DQ match at SummerSlam night two on Sunday. With help from an accidental assist from Bayley, Lynch pinned Valkyria to retain the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. The result means that, because of a stipulation Valkyria agreed to, she cannot challenge for the title again while Lynch is still champion.

Bayley got involved in tonight’s match to help Valkyria, saving her from a crowbar shot that Lynch was about to deliver. But a miscommunication at the end of the bout resulted in Lynch retaining. Bayley went to strike Lynch with a chain, but Lynch moved out of the way and she hit Valkyria instead. Lynch then followed up with a Manhandle Slam on Valkyria for the win.

Bayley has been involved in the Lynch-Valkyria story for months, dating back to when an attack by Lynch prevented her from competing at WrestleMania. There was a triple threat for the Women’s IC title at Evolution in July where Lynch retained over Bayley and Valkyria. Valkyria then defeated Bayley in a number one contender’s match to earn this SummerSlam title shot.

For much of tonight’s match, Valkyria was at a disadvantage after Lynch zip-tied her hands together. She fought through that, even delivering a moonsault at one point. Valkyria was finally able to break the ties, but Lynch regained the advantage by sending her into an exposed turnbuckle and hitting a Manhandle Slam through two chairs.

Lynch’s victory gives her a 2-1 record over Valkyria in the three singles matches they’ve had this year. She won the Women’s IC title from Valkyria at Money in the Bank back in June.

Tonight also marked a change for Lynch, with her replacing her longtime Celtic Invasion theme music with a new song by pop-punk band The Wonder Years.

The Hardy Boyz, Dudleyz appear at WWE SummerSlam

Two all-time great tag teams were in attendance for night two of WWE SummerSlam 2025.

In honor of August being the 25th anniversary of the first-ever TLC match, The Hardy Boyz and Dudleyz attended SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey tonight and were shown in the front row. Along with Edge & Christian, they pioneered the TLC match with the bout first taking place at SummerSlam 2000.

Edge & Christian, the victors of the inaugural tables, ladders & chairs match, are both signed to AEW and therefore were not at SummerSlam tonight. Michael Cole did mention them on commentary, however.

WWE recently did a countdown of the top 25 matches in SummerSlam history, ranking The Hardyz vs. Dudleyz vs. Edge & Christian at number six.

Matt & Jeff Hardy are the current TNA Tag Team Champions — and they’re set to face off against Bubba Ray & D-Von Dudley one last time at TNA Bound for Glory this October. With the close working relationship WWE has with TNA, Cole plugged the Bound for Glory matchup when the two legendary teams appeared tonight.

The SmackDown tag division was featured in a six-pack TLC match on tonight’s card, with Dexter Lumis & Joe Gacy of The Wyatt Sicks defeating Motor City Machine Guns, The Street Profits, DIY, Fraxiom, and Andrade & Rey Fenix to retain the WWE Tag Team titles.

Jelly Roll loses WWE in-ring debut at SummerSlam

Jelly Roll put in a strong effort and had the fans on his side, but he ultimately came up short in his WWE in-ring debut.

The 40-year-old country music star teamed with Randy Orton at SummerSlam night one, losing to Logan Paul & Drew McIntyre. It was Paul who got the victory for the heels, pinning Jelly Roll after the two celebrities were the only two left in the ring.

Jelly Roll got off to a good start before Paul took him out with a frog splash through the announce table. WWE teased that Jelly Roll wouldn’t be able to continue, but he refused to abandon his tag partner. Jelly Roll returned to the match, delivering a chokeslam to Paul and a Bossman slam to McIntyre. He then hit a powerslam on Paul, but McIntyre broke up the pin before the referee could count to three.

The closing stretch saw McIntyre hit a Claymore on Jelly Roll before Orton laid out McIntyre with an RKO. Paul then threw Orton into the ring post and hit another frog splash on Jelly Roll for the victory.

Jelly Roll, who has lost approximately 200 pounds since his highest weight, did reach a huge milestone by weighing in at 299 pounds for tonight’s match. It’s the first time he’s been under 300 pounds since grade school.

A longtime WWE fan, Jelly Roll earned respect from wrestlers and fans for how hard he worked to prepare for this match. He was training at the WWE Performance Center “every day” for weeks leading into SummerSlam. In the first week of that training, he suffered a broken pinky finger.

“He’s working as hard as anyone — if not harder — than anyone that I’ve ever seen come into our world,” Orton told ESPN’s Get Up prior to SummerSlam.

Paul “Triple H” Levesque tweeted out a video of him and Jelly Roll sharing a moment backstage after the match.

Women’s Tag Team titles change hands at WWE SummerSlam

New Women’s Tag Team Champions were crowned at WWE SummerSlam with frenemies Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss winning the belts.

SummerSlam 2025 night one saw Charlotte & Bliss defeat Judgment Day’s Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez to become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Despite a tease that Charlotte & Bliss could turn against each other, they stayed on the same page with Bliss pinning Perez to get the victory.

There was a miscommunication near the end of the match where Bliss went to strike Rodriguez but accidentally hit Charlotte instead. Charlotte looked like she might give Bliss a receipt for that, but she instead took out Rodriguez so Bliss could hit Sister Abigail on Perez for the win.

After the match, Charlotte pulled Bliss in for a hug and they celebrated with their newly won belts.

The story leading into SummerSlam was that, despite their bond clearly growing, Charlotte & Bliss claimed not to be friends and said that they were only allies of convenience.

Ahead of SummerSlam, Charlotte told The Wrestling Classic that she’s the happiest she’s ever been in her career — and this team with Bliss is something she needed both personally and professionally. Bliss also expressed to Fox News Digital that she’s enjoying the “fun dynamic” she has with Charlotte.

Both Charlotte and Bliss are former Women’s Tag Team Champions, but this is their first time holding the titles together. Charlotte was champion with Asuka before, while Bliss has had reigns with Asuka and Nikki Cross.

Judgment Day’s Women’s Tag Team title reign began in April with Rodriguez & Liv Morgan as champions. With Morgan being forced out of action due to a shoulder injury, Perez stepped in as Rodriguez’s new partner at the end of June. WWE recognizes it as two separate title reigns.
