Women’s Tag title match, Mysterio vs. Andrade added to WWE Raw

Two more matches have been added to the lineup for tonight’s SummerSlam go-home show.

WWE has announced that Women’s Tag Team Champions Peyton Royce & Billie Kay will defend their titles against Asuka & Kairi Sane, Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, and Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross in a fatal four-way elimination match on Raw. Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade is also set for tonight’s episode.

Royce & Kay vs. Rose & Deville in a non-title match was set up for last week’s SmackDown, but the match didn’t end up happening. WWE uploaded a video where The IIconics claimed that Kay had “puppy fever” and couldn’t wrestle on the show. Rose & Deville and Asuka & Sane then argued over who should get the next title shot.

Bliss & Cross defeated Bayley & Ember Moon on SmackDown last week.

Andrade eliminated Mysterio during a gauntlet match on last Monday’s Raw. He then ripped off Mysterio’s mask in a post-match angle.

Ricochet won the gauntlet match and will challenge for AJ Styles’ United States Championship at SummerSlam.

The PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is hosting tonight’s Raw. Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya & Trish Stratus, a Miz TV segment with Shawn Michaels and Dolph Ziggler, and an appearance by Brock Lesnar have also been confirmed for the episode.

Women’s tag title match, Bryan announcement set for SmackDown

It appears that Asuka & Kairi Sane are finally getting their shot at the Women’s Tag Team titles.

WWE has announced that Peyton Royce & Billie Kay will defend their titles against Asuka & Sane on tonight’s SmackDown. Asuka & Sane getting the title shot was set up when they defeated Royce & Kay in a non-title match at a house show in Tokyo, Japan last month.

There was an angle on last week’s SmackDown where Royce & Kay avoided having their match against Asuka & Sane that night by claiming that Kay was too sick to wrestle.

WWE is also hyping a segment for tonight where Daniel Bryan will make an announcement that “will change the course of his career and shake SmackDown LIVE to its core.”

Bryan & Rowan lost the SmackDown Tag Team titles at Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view, with Big E & Xavier Woods defeating Bryan & Rowan and Heavy Machinery in a triple threat match. Bryan cut a post-show promo where he said he has to aim higher and go where he hasn’t gone before.

Tonight’s SmackDown is taking place at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. Shane McMahon will host a “town hall meeting” after Kevin Owens called out Shane last week for taking up TV time from other wrestlers and calling himself the best in the world. Ember Moon and a partner will also team against Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville.

WWE Main Event results: Peyton Royce vs. Nikki Cross

The Big Takeaway: EC3 lost again, this week to Cedric Alexander. The IIconics were on the show for the second week in a row, but only Peyton Royce was in action, defeating Nikki Cross on Cross’ show debut.

**********

A few changes this week. There was no third man in the announce booth and no third match on the show. Last week had seen the addition of David Otunga, but this week we returned to Byron Saxton and Renee Young on commentary in the usual two-match plus Raw recap format.

Cedric Alexander defeated EC3 (5:23)

Alexander has made a few appearances over the last couple of years on Main Event. He returned last week to beat Cesaro, which was Alexander’s first match on this show in a year.

Alexander and EC3 were good together here, if not a little sluggish towards the end. The match was essentially built around Alexander being the plucky babyface who had too much pace and speed for EC3 to deal with.

Other than Alexander slapping his thigh for literally every move he does, they finished well. After EC3 had gone close, Alexander got the heat and laid him out with a back handspring into an enzuigiri followed by the Lumbar Check.

Fans seem to have largely accepted that EC3 is where he is at the moment, but EC3 has been strangely quiet on Twitter for around a month now. You have to wonder what he makes of his position right now.

Payton Royce (w/ Billie Kay) defeated Nikki Cross (6:40)

Well, they certainly gave Cross plenty in her Main Event debut match here. She looked like she might have even won it until the last few moments.

It was interesting that they gave Cross an appearance here, but if they do the same and beat her in London on Monday, it won’t go down well.

Kay was the obnoxious cheerleader throughout all of this, but Cross did herself no harm at all here. Interestingly, Young noted on commentary that Cross was still “struggling to find where she fits in in the dressing room.” I think that’s WWE-speak for they have no idea what to do with her yet.

The finish was a lot of back and forth with both women frustrated at not being able to best the other. Cross dodged a knee strike and rolled up Royce for two and then Royce connected with a forearm, spin kick, and the fisherman suplex for the win.

WWE Main Event results: Rawley unveils new look, IIconics in action

The Big Takeaway: Mojo Rawley debuted his new look, squashing Heath Slater in under three minutes. The IIconics then made their Main Event debut, defeating Alicia Fox & Tamina in a non-title match.

**********

After Sam Roberts’ appearance on commentary two weeks ago had been criticized by many on social media, David Otunga joined Byron Saxton and Renee Young on announcing duties this week

Mojo Rawley defeated Heath Slater (2:41)

After multiple hype vignettes on Raw, Mojo Rawley finally debuted his new look, strangely doing so on this show. He had new gear and a long dark blue sleeveless hood that was a little reminiscent of the hoods that Demolition wore.

Saxton then spoke about Rawley’s months of self-reflection as Rawley stayed hunched in the corner with his hood covering his face. On the bell, he leaped up and charged at Slater. He pulled back the hood and revealed the face paint that he had in the promo videos.

After beating Slater down and screaming at him, Rawley finished him with a running forearm and a new finisher – an Alabama slam.

In all honesty, it was nothing really all that different to the usual Rawley stuff. It will be more about what they choose to do with him rather than what he does that will affect how this character moves forward. But with a debut on Main Event, the signs don’t look all that positive.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay) defeated Tamina & Alicia Fox in a non-title match (3:57)

Royce and Kay cut a pre-match promo running down the state of Kentucky and the crowd. They noted that no one else could do what they achieved at WrestleMania and then laughed and posed.

This was as you would expect and wasn’t much of a Main Event debut for The IIconics. It shouldn’t be a surprise anymore to see Tag Team Champions on Main Event, yet it still is – with Raw as a three-hour show, you have to wonder why they can’t make room for their title holders.

The match had broken down and Tamina had bulled Kay and made her scream for mercy. So Royce just marched in the ring and took out Fox. Royce and Kay then teamed up and hit the IIconic knee on Tamina for the win. It looked like a soft victory after lots of stops and starts in the last minute or so.

Batista set for WWE Raw, Women’s tag title participants to face off

Batista will officially be appearing on Monday’s go-home episode of Raw in his hometown of Washington D.C.

WWE has announced that Batista will appear on the show for a segment where he responds to Triple H ahead of their no holds barred match at WrestleMania. Batista didn’t appear on this past Monday’s Raw, but their storyline continued with Triple H reading a letter from Batista’s attorney. It said Batista wouldn’t compete at WrestleMania unless Triple H’s career was on the line.

Triple H cut a promo where he agreed to the stipulation and accused Batista of trying to quit again with the letter.

An eight-woman tag match has also been announced for Monday’s go-home show. It will feature all of the participants in WrestleMania 35’s fatal four-way Women’s Tag Team title match, with Sasha Banks, Bayley, Beth Phoenix & Natalya teaming against Nia Jax, Tamina, Peyton Royce & Billie Kay on Raw.

This will be the first time Phoenix has wrestled on Raw since 2012.

The Capital One Arena is hosting Monday’s Raw. Brock Lesnar will appear on the episode, Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair will face The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan) in a six-woman tag match, and Kurt Angle’s farewell tour will continue with a match against Rey Mysterio.

There’s a stipulation where Rousey, Lynch, or Charlotte will lose their spot in the WrestleMania main event if they betray their team against The Riott Squad.

Fatal four-way Women’s Tag Team title match official for WrestleMania

Four teams will be in the Women’s Tag Team title match at WrestleMania 35.

WWE has announced that Sasha Banks & Bayley will defend their titles against Beth Phoenix & Natalya, Nia Jax & Tamina, and Peyton Royce & Billie Kay in a fatal four-way match at WrestleMania.

Banks faced Natalya on this week’s Raw, with Jax & Tamina causing a disqualification. Phoenix hit the Glam Slam on Tamina after the match and put her foot on Banks’ title belt when she was trying to take it out of the ring. Banks & Bayley later cut a promo where they vowed to take on all of the teams coming for them at WrestleMania.

On last week’s SmackDown, Royce & Kay defeated Banks & Bayley in a non-title match.

Banks & Bayley became WWE’s first Women’s Tag Team Champions of this era at February’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey is the host of this year’s WrestleMania. The show will take place on April 7. Here’s what’s been announced thus far:

  • Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey defending against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in a triple threat match
  • Universal Champion Brock Lesnar defending against Seth Rollins
  • Triple H vs. Batista in a no holds barred match (Triple H’s career is on the line as a stipulation of the match)
  • Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre
  • Shane McMahon vs. The Miz
  • AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton
  • United States Champion Samoa Joe defending against Rey Mysterio
  • Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin (Angle’s farewell match)
  • Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Bayley defending against Beth Phoenix & Natalya, Nia Jax & Tamina, and Peyton Royce & Billie Kay in a fatal four-way match
  • Intercontinental Champion Bobby Lashley defending against Finn Balor
  • Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal (Braun Strowman and Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost & Michael Che have been announced as entrants)
  • WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy defending against Tony Nese

Banks & Bayley vs. IIconics non-title match set for WWE SmackDown

Sasha Banks & Bayley’s appearance on tonight’s SmackDown will be for a non-title match.

WWE has announced that Women’s Tag Team Champions Banks & Bayley will face The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay) in a non-title match on tonight’s episode. The match was set up by Royce & Kay challenging Banks & Bayley to come to SmackDown over the past few weeks.

There was a segment on last night’s Raw where Banks & Bayley said they’ll be appearing on SmackDown this week. Beth Phoenix & Natalya then came out to the ring, with Phoenix & Natalya issuing a WrestleMania challenge to them.

Banks faced Natalya on Raw, but Nia Jax & Tamina interrupted the match and said they’ll see Banks & Bayley and Phoenix & Natalya at WrestleMania.

A gauntlet match where Kofi Kingston has to defeat Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, Cesaro, Sheamus, and Rowan to earn his way to WrestleMania will kick off tonight’s SmackDown. WWE is also advertising that The Miz will respond to Shane McMahon’s heel turn. Miz vs. Shane is official for WrestleMania.

The IIconics added to WWE Women’s Tag Team title match

Four teams have now been announced for the Women’s Tag Team Championship Elimination Chamber match that’s taking place at this month’s pay-per-view.

WWE revealed via Twitter on Saturday night that The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay) will be one of the six teams in the Elimination Chamber match to decide WWE’s Women’s Tag Team Champions. They join Nia Jax & Tamina, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan, and Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville as teams that have been announced for the match.

There will be three teams from Raw and three teams from SmackDown in the Elimination Chamber match. Raw’s final team for it will be confirmed when Sasha Banks & Bayley face Alicia Fox & Nikki Cross in a qualifier this Monday night.

Jax & Tamina defeated Alexa Bliss & Mickie James and Morgan & Logan defeated Natalya & Dana Brooke in their qualifying matches. WWE has announced SmackDown’s Rose & Deville and Royce & Kay for the Tag Team title match instead of having them win qualifiers.

The Toyota Center in Houston, Texas will host Elimination Chamber 2019 on February 17.

Two more matches added to WWE Super Show-Down card

Two more matches have been added to the card for WWE Super Show-Down.

WWE has announced Asuka & Naomi vs. Peyton Royce & Billie Kay for Super Show-Down, along with The New Day defending their Tag Team titles against Cesaro & Sheamus. The event is taking place in Melbourne, Australia on October 6 and will air live on the WWE Network.

Asuka made the save for Naomi in an angle on this week’s SmackDown, helping her even the odds against Royce & Kay. Naomi had defeated Royce before being attacked by them.

Super Show-Down will be a homecoming for Royce & Kay as they wrestle in their home country. Buddy Murphy will also be challenging for the Cruiserweight Championship in his hometown of Melbourne.

New Day vs. Cesaro & Sheamus could also be the SmackDown Tag Team Championship match at Hell in a Cell on September 16, with Cesaro & Sheamus facing Rusev & Aiden English in a number one contender’s match next Tuesday.

The updated lineup for Super Show-Down is listed below:

  • The Undertaker vs. Triple H (billed as the final time they’ll ever face each other)
  • The Shield (Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose) vs. Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre
  • WWE Champion AJ Styles defending against Samoa Joe
  • Ronda Rousey, Nikki Bella & Brie Bella vs. The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan)
  • Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz (winner gets a future shot at the WWE Championship)
  • John Cena & Bobby Lashley vs. Kevin Owens & Elias
  • SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day defending against Cesaro & Sheamus
  • Asuka & Naomi vs. Peyton Royce & Billie Kay
  • WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander defending against Buddy Murphy

Charlotte & Becky Lynch vs. The IIconics set for WWE SmackDown

Ahead of both challenging for Carmella’s Women’s Championship at SummerSlam, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch will be teaming up on this week’s SmackDown.

Charlotte & Lynch vs. The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay) is set for tomorrow’s episode. It was set up when Royce and Kay mocked Charlotte and Lynch in a video over the weekend and Charlotte and Lynch responded by asking who The IIconics have ever beaten.

Paige then announced the match on Twitter today: “Just two weeks ahead of #SummerSlam, this is an exciting time! But every Tuesday night on #SDLive is exciting (especially with me in charge)! So…let’s make it official: @BillieKayWWE & @PeytonRoyceWWE vs. @BeckyLynchWWE & @MsCharlotteWWE. Now that is IICONIC WOO FIRE!”

Charlotte returned to WWE television last week by making the save for Lynch during an attack from Carmella. Charlotte later defeated Carmella in a non-title bout, making the SmackDown Women’s title match for SummerSlam a triple threat between Carmella, Lynch, and Charlotte. The storyline is that Lynch is happy Charlotte is back but disappointed about her being added to the mix for SummerSlam.

The New Day vs. Cesaro & Sheamus is also set for tomorrow, with the winners advancing to challenge for The Bludgeon Brothers’ Tag Team titles at SummerSlam.

US title open challenge, more matches set for WWE SmackDown

The lineup for tonight’s SmackDown in Omaha, Nebraska is close to complete based on what’s already been announced.

Joining Asuka vs. James Ellsworth, three more matches have now been made official for the show. Those are: Jeff Hardy issuing a United States Championship open challenge for the second straight week, WWE Champion AJ Styles vs. Aiden English in a non-title match, and Becky Lynch vs. Peyton Royce.

Hardy was originally scheduled to defend his title against Shinsuke Nakamura last week before Nakamura was pulled due to his dog-bite injury. Eric Young answered Hardy’s open challenge on the show, but it turned into Hardy & The Usos vs. SAnitY. Tonight’s match is being billed as an “Independence Day United States Open Challenge.”

Lynch vs. Royce was first advertised for last Tuesday, but Lynch ended up facing Sonya Deville instead.

WWE has announced that Daniel Bryan and Kane will be opening the episode after reuniting last week, and The New Day will be facing off against each other in the “First Annual Third of July Pancake Eating Contest.”

Bryan & Kane are set to challenge for The Bludgeon Brothers’ SmackDown Tag Team titles at Extreme Rules on July 15. Tonight’s Styles vs. English match will also continue the build to Styles’ WWE Championship defense against Rusev at the pay-per-view.

Two more matches, GLOW cast members set for WWE SmackDown

More matches and segments have been announced for tonight’s episode of SmackDown.

Rusev vs. Xavier Woods and Becky Lynch vs. Peyton Royce have been added to the show. Both Rusev and Lynch won matches last week, with Rusev winning a gauntlet to become WWE Champion AJ Styles’ challenger for Extreme Rules and Lynch submitting Billie Kay.

The Bludgeon Brothers will also appear on Miz TV, and WWE is hyping that at least two of the cast members from Netflix’s GLOW will appear. Britt Baron (who plays Justine) and Sydelle Noel (who plays Cherry Bang) tweeted videos where they said they were going to add glow to the show and sent messages to Naomi, referencing her “feel the glow” catchphrase. Season two of GLOW will be uploaded to Netflix this Friday.

Tonight’s SmackDown is taking place at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. As was previously announced, Jeff Hardy will be defending the United States Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura on the episode.

Six-woman tag match, Miz TV with Jeff Hardy set for WWE SmackDown

A six-woman tag match and a couple of segments have been announced for tonight’s SmackDown.

Charlotte Flair, Asuka & Becky Lynch will be teaming against SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella, Peyton Royce & Billie Kay. The IIconics got a win over Asuka & Lynch last week, while Charlotte stood tall after her contract signing with Carmella.

The tag match comes five days before Charlotte gets her rematch for Carmella’s title at Backlash. Carmella cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase to win the championship last month after Charlotte had been attacked by Royce and Kay.

Another title bout should become official for Backlash as Jeff Hardy appears on Miz TV tonight. Hardy has been involved in a program with Randy Orton and Shelton Benjamin since winning the United States Championship and coming to SmackDown in the Superstar Shakeup.

WWE is returning to the Bell Centre in Montreal for the second straight night for tonight’s SmackDown. AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura will finish building to Sunday’s WWE Championship match, with Nakamura demanding an apology for their double countout and post-match brawl from the Greatest Royal Rumble.

Asuka & Becky Lynch vs. The IIconics set for WWE SmackDown

Two new members of the show’s women’s division will be wrestling on SmackDown for the first time on Tuesday night.

Asuka & Becky Lynch vs. The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay) has been announced for next Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown. It will be the first time Asuka and Royce have wrestled on television since joining the brand.

Though she’s been appearing on the show since issuing her WrestleMania challenge to Charlotte Flair, Asuka officially arrived on SmackDown in the Superstar Shakeup. Royce and Kay debuted on the main roster after WrestleMania, laying out Charlotte before Carmella cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Kay lost to Charlotte this past Tuesday, with Asuka making the save for Charlotte and Lynch when they were being attacked by The IIconics and Carmella.

This is the first match that’s been announced for next week’s SmackDown, which will also feature fallout from the Superstar Shakeup and the final build to the Greatest Royal Rumble.
