WWE NXT notes: Tag Team title tournament updates, Robert Stone, Blake Monroe

Notes from Tuesday’s NXT in Houston.

Birthright were the first to advance in the tournament to crown new contenders for the NXT Tag Team titles, defeating Hank and Tank after other members of the stable interfered allowing just enough confusion for Uriah Connors & Stacks to pick up the win and advance to the next round. The winners of the tournament will face the Vanity Project at Stand & Deliver.

The next match of the tournament will take place back at the Performance Center next week when Eli Knight and Elio LeFleur take on The Culling. A segment on Tuesday’s show saw Shawn Legacy appearing on crutches, suffering an injury on last week’s show when he and Eli Knight faced Jasper Troy in a three-way match. LeFleur offered to team with Knight as a result, keeping the former in the tournament.

In a segment that took place last week that aired on Tuesday, William Regal set Robert Stone aside and said he was impressed with the way he had been running NXT, and as a result would be talking to Shawn Michaels to make sure he would become the permanent general manager of the brand.

The main event of Tuesday’s show saw Tatum Paxley retain the Women’s North American title, pinning Izzi Dame with the cemetery drive. Paxley celebrated the win on the entrance ramp, seemingly ending the show on a positive note. However, a hand emerged from an opening in the platform and dragged Paxley underneath. Blake Monroe emerged from the opening clutching Paxley’s North American title, posing with it as the show drew to a close.

WWE NXT to hold Stand & Deliver Tag Team title number one contender’s touranment

A tag team tournament will determine Vanity Project’s challengers for Stand & Deliver next month.

Interim GM Robert Stone announced backstage on Tuesday that the tournament will begin next week and will conclude at NXT’s Madison Square Garden Theatre event on March 31. Initially The Culling, Sean Legacy & Eli Knight, Hank & Tank, Birthright, OTM, and DarkState were slated to participate, with Hank & Tank facing Birthright next week in an opening round match.

Saquon Shugars of DarkState was upset about the situation, saying the group wanted their rematch from when Vanity Project won the titles several weeks ago. When OTM arrived in Stone’s office, they immediately began brawling with DarkState. Later in the show, Stone announced that as a result of the fight, both teams were out of the tournament.

Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes won the NXT Tag Team titles last month, defeating Shugars and Osiris Griffin after Tony D’Angelo came in and laid out members of DarkState, causing Vanity Project to score the shock win. D’Angelo went on to meet Dion Lennox at Vengeance Day in a match that saw them brawl in the parking lot initially, with other DarkState members joining in. OTM came out to even the odds, allowing D’Angelo to take Lennox to the ring and eventually scored the victory.

Tag Team title match, more qualifiers set for next week’s WWE NXT

A Tag Team title match is set for next week’s NXT.

During a promo outside the WWE Performance Center, OTM announced that they would be getting a shot at Darkstate on next week’s show. They aided Joe Hendry in defeating Dion Lennox in a no disqualification match last week. Right before the show ended, the Tag Team title match was confirmed.

Three more qualifying matches were also set for next Tuesday. Lennox will square off against Myles Borne, Joe Hendry will face EVOLVE Champion Jackson Drake, and Keanu Carver will face Andre Chase. The winners of these matches will advance to the ladder match to crown a new NXT Champion on February 3.

Shiloh Hill and Sean Legacy became the first two men to qualify for the NXT Championship match on Tuesday, defeating Josh Briggs and Eli Knight respectively. Ricky Saints mentioned on Tuesday that he didn’t have to qualify and was already added to the match.

  • NXT Tag Team titles: Darkstate vs. OTM
  • NXT Championship qualifying match: Dion Lennox vs. Myles Borne

Additionally, Ava announced that Darkstate will meet The Hardys in a title for title match. She said unlike the title for title match on the last episode of NXT, everyone will be barred from ringside and there must be a winner.

Tensions started to flare between the two promotions two weeks ago when it was announced that TNA Champion Trick Williams would face NXT Champion Oba Femi. TNA talent on social media sounded off, unhappy about TNA’s top championship being decided on NXT. On this week’s show, that frustration reached a boiling point when Williams struck Mike Santana, who was on commentary. The show ended with the TNA roster, who were watching in the crowd, entering the ring to brawl with NXT talent.

Here is the current card for NXT Invasion. The show ill be going head-to-head with AEW’s Title Tuesday edition of Dynamite:

NXT/TNA Invasion (October 7, CW)

NXT Tag Team title match set for next TNA Impact

A match for the NXT Tag Team titles is set for the next episode of Impact.

Nathan Frazer and Axiom will defend the titles against The Rascalz (Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz) on Thursday during a special live edition of TNA Impact in San Antonio. The move comes after the two teams confronted one another during TNA Genesis.

Right as the TNA Tag Team title match was set to take place between champions The Hardys and challengers The Rascals, the NXT Tag Team Champions came down with chairs and sat ringside as a surprise. During the match, however, there was a spot where the Rascalz were sent out of the ring, crashing into Fraxiom. The two teams exchanged words as TNA security escorted Fraxiom backstage. The Hardys eventually emerged victorious, retaining the TNA Tag Team titles.

Also on the show, it was announced that TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella would address Josh Alexander’s statements following his I Quit match against Mike Santana. Alexander shook Santana’s hand after his loss, saying he not only quit in the match, but also quit TNA.

Here is the updated lineup for Thursday’s Impact:

  • NXT Tag Team titles: Fraxiom defend against The Rascalz
  • Santino Marella to address Josh Alexander quitting TNA

OTM earn future NXT Tag Team title match

OTM are next in line.

Lucien Price and Bronco Nima won the Christmas Chaos four-way tag match on Tuesday’s NXT. In a match full of Christmas-themed weapons, it was Ridge Holland disguised as Santa Claus that led to the finish. Holland, who had been disguised all night handing gifts to the crowd, attacked Tony D’Angelo at ringside by laying him out with a DDT. Stacks & Luca Crusifino in the ring were distracted long enough for OTM to take advantage, pinning them to earn a future Tag Team title match.

Holland was last seen at NXT Deadline earlier this month losing to Trick Williams in a match that had been for the NXT Championship.

Current champions Nathan Frazer & Axiom have spent much of the year not being on the same page. Despite that, they have come up successful every time they’ve had to defend the Tag Team titles, sometimes even wrestling twice on the same night. They most recently successfully defended the titles against Gallus on the December 17 edition of NXT.

Two title matches set for next week’s WWE NXT

Two title matches are set for next week’s NXT.

Axiom & Nathan Frazer will defend the NXT Tag Team titles against Je’Von Evans and Cedric Alexander. In a backstage segment that aired on Tuesday, the champions consoled Evans after he lost in the main event of last week’s show. Frazer, however, was more pandering in his comments, saying that Evans was young and had a lot of time, and told Evans to get used to it. Evans slapped Frazer as their partners held them back.

The champions were later seen in Ava’s office, where Frazer agreed to put up the NXT Tag Team titles with Axiom reluctantly agreeing.

Charlie Dempsey also agreed to give Lexis King a shot at the Heritage Cup trophy on next week’s show. King told Dempsey that he didn’t want to be seen as a loose cannon like his father. Later, King went into Ava’s office and asked her to appoint someone in his corner for the match. Ava said she couldn’t do it.

Here is the lineup for next week’s show:

  • NXT Tag Team titles: Axiom & Nathan Frazer defend against Je’Von Evans & Cedric Alexander
  • NXT Heritage Cup: Charlie Dempsey defends against Lexis King

Nathan Frazer & Axiom win Tag Team titles at WWE NXT No Mercy

New Tag Team Champions were crowned at No Mercy.

In the opening match of Sunday’s premium live event in Colorado, Nathan Frazer & Axiom regained the titles, defeating Chase U’s Ridge Holland and Andre Chase. The finish of the match had Frazer and Axiom isolate Chase, allowing Axiom to hit a Spanish fly. Frazer then connected with Phoenix Splash to win the titles for a second time.

After the match, all of Chase U consoled one another in the ring. However, an upset Ridge Holland turned on his fellow Chase U friends, attacking Duke Hudson and Riley Osborne as they were exiting the ring before focusing on Chase, press slamming him to the floor. As Thea Hail was pleading for Holland to stop, he put Chase through the announcer’s table, causing him to be stretchered out of the building.

Recent months had shown Holland associating himself more with Chase U, despite hesitance from Osborne and Hudson who had their doubts about Holland’s true intentions. Chase & Holland defeated Frazer & Axiom back on the August 13 episode of NXT to win the titles, ending their first reign as champions.

Axiom & Nathan Frazer win WWE NXT Tag Team titles

New champions were crowned on NXT.

Tuesday’s show saw Nathan Frazer and Axiom defeat Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin to win the NXT Tag Team titles for the first time. The finish came when Breakker accidentally ran into Corbin in the corner. The momentary distraction allowed Frazer and Axiom to send Breaker through the ropes and to the floor, where Frazer followed up by hitting the phoenix splash on Corbin for the win.

After the match, the new champions were jumped by Karrion Kross and AOP, The Final Testament. AOP gave both the super collider before standing over the champions, posing with their titles.

This ends the reign of Breakker and Corbin after 57 days. They defeated Tony D’Angelo and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo on the February 13 edition of NXT. Earlier that month, they won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, earning a title shot.

Axiom & Frazer had won a three-way match to earn a shot at the Tag Team titles at NXT Stand & Deliver this past weekend, ultimately unsuccessful in winning the titles. NXT Anonymous on X captured footage of Axiom & Frazer asking Ava for a title rematch. The match was agreed to under the stipulation that if Axiom and Frazer lose, they would never be able to team again.

WWE NXT announces Tag Team title number one contender’s tournament

A tag team tournament will determine Bron Breakker & Baron Corbin’s challengers for Stand & Deliver.

WWE posted a video on social media showing various tag teams arguing over who should get the next NXT Tag Team title match. Ava arrived and announced a tournament would be taking place over the next three weeks to determine the new number one contenders.

The opening round matches will feature LWO (Joaquin Wilde & Cruz Del Toro) vs. OTM, Axiom & Nathan Frazer vs. No Quarter Catch Crew, and Hank Walker & Tank Ledger vs. Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows. The winners of those matches will then advance to a triple threat bout where the winners will face the champions on April 6.

Breakker & Corbin won the NXT Tag Team titles shortly after they won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic last month. They successfully defended the titles on Tuesday, defeating Chase U (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson). At the same time, Breakker has been called up to the main roster, officially signing with SmackDown several weeks ago.

OTM earn Tag Team title match on WWE NXT

Out The Mud have earned a NXT Tag Team title match.

The start of Tuesday’s show saw Bronco Nima and Lucien Price defeat Chase U’s Andre Chase and Duke Hudson in what was billed as an All or Nothing match. The finish had Chase insist on being tagged in, saying “I got this”. After tagging in, he was immediately cut off and pinned by Nima following an assisted spinebuster.

As a result of the win, OTM have now earned a future Tag Team title match against current champions Stacks & Tony D’Angelo, who were watching the match atop a balcony. They also now owed an undetermined sum of money from Chase.

In a digital exclusive, Scrypts said they would get the titles and told Chase that they needed their money.

The win by OTM is part of a weeks-long storyline involving Chase U, who have been rocked by financial scandal thanks to Chase who has used school funds for gambling purposes. On last week’s NXT, he was gambling away more money when Chase proposed a match where he gets enough money to get the school out of financial debt plus a future Tag Team title match. Adriana Rizzo, who in recent weeks has represented D’Angelo and Stacks, okayed the match.

Tony D’Angelo & Stacks regain Tag Team titles on WWE NXT

Tony D’Angelo and Stacks have regained the NXT Tag Team titles.

The open of Tuesday’s show saw Chase U fail to retain their titles, with D’Angelo and Stacks picking up the win after a double spinebuster, pinning Chase. Throughout the match, members of Chase U in the crowd were seen walking away, apparently losing faith in Chase U while they are under investigation for reasons that have yet to be made clear.

Chase U had held the titles for only two weeks, winning them from D’Angelo and Stacks back on the first night of Halloween Havoc on October 24.

Last week’s show saw D’Angleo and Stacks hand Jacy Jayne an envelope, with Jayne being surprised by the contents in the envelope. Chase found out and wasn’t happy Jayne had found out what was in the envelope. When Thea Hail and Duke Hudson walked into the classroom, Chase pretended that everything was fine.

Later in the week, Shawn Micheals wrote on X that he wanted to see Chase in his office. A video on WWE’s YouTube page Tuesday revealed that Chase U was now “under investigation”.

Chase U win NXT Tag Team titles at Halloween Havoc night one

Chase U are the new NXT Tag Team Champions.

Andre Chase and Duke Hudson won the titles for the first time at Tuesday’s Halloween Havoc, defeating Tony D’Angelo and Stacks. The finish of the match had Jacy Jayne, who was at ringside, introduce a crowbar. Chase didn’t want to use the weapon. In the confusion, Tony D’Angelo hit the ropes, sending Jayne to the floor. Chase used the distraction to roll up D’Angelo and score the win. All members of Chase U, including Thea Hail, celebrated after the match.

Stacks and D’Angelo had held the titles since July 30, when they defeated Gallus at NXT’s Great American Bash event.

Chase U won the Badda Bing, Badda Boom Battle Royal on last week’s NXT, defeating Humberto and Angel to become the new number one contenders. Recent weeks have seen Thea Hail become distant towards Hudson and Chase after they threw in the towel during her NXT Women’s title match against Tiffany Stratton, changing her look and associating herself with Jayne. On Tuesday’s show, Hail condescendingly promised Chase and Hudson that she wouldn’t throw in the towel.

Tag Team title match official for NXT Halloween Havoc night one

Chase U are getting a shot at NXT Tag Team title gold.

Next week will see Chase U challenge Tony D’Angelo and Stacks for the NXT Tag Team titles. Andre Chase and Duke Hudson won the Badda Bing Badda Boom Battle Royal, defeating Humberto and Angel after The Creed Brothers interfered. Humberto and Angel were originally eliminated from the battle royal, but snuck back in and eliminated The Creed Brothers.

Two Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal matches will also take place. Gigi Dolin spun the wheel on Tuesday’s show, landing on a Lights Out match against Blair Davenport. Roxanne Perez later spun the wheel, landing on a Devil’s Playground match against Kiana James.

The semifinals of the NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament will also take place. Lola Vice will face Karmen Petrovic, while Kelani Jordan will face Arianna Grace.

Lexis King (Brian Pillman Jr.) will also be making his in-ring debut on the show.

Here is the updated lineup for next week’s Halloween Havoc, which will be hosted by Shotzi and Scarlett:

  • NXT Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch defends against Lyra Valkyria
  • NXT Tag Team titles: Tony D’Angelo & Stacks defend against Chase U
  • Lights Out: Gigi Dolin vs. Blair Davenport
  • Devil’s Playground: Roxanne Perez vs. Kiana James
  • Lexis King makes in-ring debut
  • NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament semifinals: Lola Vice vs. Karmen Petrovic
  • NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament semifinals: Arianna Grace vs. Kelani Jordan

Tony D’Angelo & Stacks win Tag Team titles at WWE NXT Great American Bash

Tony D’Angelo and Stacks are the new NXT Tag Team Champions.

D’Angleo and Stacks defeated Gallus on Sunday’s Great American Bash to win the titles for the first time. The finish had Gallus attempt to distract the referee so Wolfgang could use a weapon on Stacks. However, D’Angleo made the save when Wolfgang made the cover. Eventually, D’Angleo used a crowbar to knock out Joe Koffey and together they hit their finish on Wolfgang to win the match.

D’Angelo, Stacks, and Gallus have been involved in a months-long storyline where D’Angelo was thrown in jail on unspecified charges. Both Stacks and D’Angleo assumed that it was Gallus that ratted D’Angelo out. They then concocted a plan where Stacks pretended to be disloyal to D’Angelo in order to fool Gallus into giving Stacks a match where if he won, they would get a tag title match and D’Angelo would be freed from jail. If they lost D’Angleo would remain in jail until his trial. Stacks ended up winning the match, freeing D’Angelo from jail.

Gallus had been champions since February when they defeated champions The New Day, Pretty Deadly, and Chase U to win the titles for the first time.
