Harley Cameron says she was ‘asking for help’ ahead of Mercedes Mone match

Promising AEW star Harley Cameron has opened up about her preparation routine ahead of her title bout against Mercedes Mone.

Earlier this year, in February 2025, at Grand Slam in Australia, home-town hero Harley Cameron clashed against Mercedes Mone for the TBS Championship in a losing cause. Now, almost nine months later, in a recent interview on Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze, the 31-year-old reflected on asking for help ahead of her title match against Mone.

“It’s funny I was doing the maths yesterday, because I have a book that I write in, I have a wrestling book, a traditional thing where I write it down. I write everything down.Again, 64 matches in, it’s funny to even do the maths on that, because I just got to wrestle one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time, and I was like holy shit.” She further continued, “But again I was like I’m gonna do the best I can to be ready, and I’d go home and train, I’d think of spots and I’d ask for private sessions with my coaches and if you see me at work I’ll be in the ring before the work day begins because I was like ‘I’m getting put in the deep end, so I better do the best of my ability’ because if anything doesn’t go to plan or isn’t perfect, at least I can turn around and say I gave everything to it. I was training as much as I could, I was asking for help, I was doing the additional stuff.”

Cameron’s title match against Mone in Queensland, Australia also happened to be the Australian wrestler’s 64th overall career match.

Mercedes Mone announced for another championship match

Currently holding twelve championship belts from promotions all across the globe, Mercedes Mone is now on the hunt for her 13th title belt. According to House of Glory, Mone will face Nor “Phoenix” Diana at the promotion’s Superclash event in Long Island, New York on Saturday, November 15 for the APAC Women’s Championship.

Mercedes Mone vs. Queen Maya result from Bestya Wrestling in Italy

Mercedes Mone retained the BestYa Women’s Wrestling Championship today.

She defeated Queen Maya at the promotion’s show in Rome, Italy. However, it wasn’t a clean victory, as her partner The Beast Mortos interfered during the match, hitting Maya with a spear that led to the finish.

This was Mone’s first defense of the title she originally won by defeating Diana Strong at a PTW event in Kozlow, Poland, in July. The PTW Women’s Championship was also on the line in the match.

Prior to the match, Mone visited AS Roma, who are based in the city and compete in Serie A Femminile, Italy’s top division of women’s football. The club presented her with a personalized jersey.

Clips from Mone’s title defense and trip to Italy can be seen below:

AEW Women’s Tag Team title tournament sees surprise finish

The initial field of eight in the inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team title tournament is now down to six following Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.

Former TBS Champion Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron pulled off a bit of an upset by defeating reigning TBS Champion Mercedes Mone and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena to advance to the semifinals.

The end came when Athena hit a Samoan Drop/fall away slam on both Nightingale and Cameron for a near fall. That brought out Billie Starkz to help Athena which then brought out AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander to lay her out and chase Mone, her challenger at Full Gear, around the ring.

Athena was about to use her title belt but Nightingale hit her with a Doctor Bomb followed by Cameron’s finisher to get the win to advance.

The two will now face the Sisters of Sin (Skye Blue & Julia Hart) with the winner moving onto the finals (date yet to be announced). The other side of the bracket has yet to begin with the dates for Riho & Alex Windsor vs. Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa, and Anna Jay & Tay Melo vs. Marina Shafir & Megan Bayne yet to be revealed.

Mercedes Mone to challenge for Malaysian indie title

Mercedes Mone is going for more international gold — this time attempting to win a Malaysian indie title.

House of Glory has announced that Mone will face Nor “Phoenix” Diana at the promotion’s Superclash event in Long Island, New York on Saturday, November 15. It’s a title match where Diana is defending the APAC Women’s Championship that she holds in Malaysia.

This is the first time Diana is putting her title on the line in the United States. Billed as the world’s first hijab-wearing wrestler, she was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list for Asia in 2020.

In this match, Mone is attempting to claim her 13th championship belt. She’s been traveling the world on a mission to add gold to her collection, which includes the following:

  • AEW TBS Championship
  • AEW Owen Hart Cup Championship (ceremonial)
  • Interim ROH Women’s TV Championship
  • CMLL Women’s World Championship (Mexico)
  • RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship (United Kingdom)
  • Queen of Southside Championship (inactive, unified with RevPro title)
  • EWA Women’s Championship (Austria)
  • Bestya Wrestling Women’s Championship (Italy)
  • Prime Time Wrestling Women’s Championship (Poland)
  • Discovery Wrestling Women’s Championship (Scotland)
  • Bodyslam Women’s Championship (Denmark)
  • Winnipeg Pro Women’s Championship (Canada)

Mone is also set to challenge Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear on November 22.

House of Glory Superclash is being held in collaboration with the Big Event Entertainment & Sports Expo convention. Shayna Baszler, Maki Itoh, Killer Kross, Scarlett Bordeaux, Shotzi Blackheart, Priscilla Kelly, Allie Katch, Dezmond Xavier, and Nic Nemeth are among the other talent announced for the show.

AEW Fright Night Collision live results: Bandido vs. Mascara Dorada ROH title match

In a rematch from earlier this year, Ring of Honor World Champion Bandido defends against Mascara Dorada in the main event of tonight’s AEW Fright Night edition of Collision from Edinburg, Texas.

The two previously squared off at Arena Mexico with Bandido picking up the successful title defense.

A second title bout will see reigning CMLL Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone defending against Olympia with Mone’s Full Gear opponent and AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander on commentary.

In a trios match, The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Komander and Roderick Strong) face LFI’s Sammy Guevara, Dralistico and The Beast Mortos.

For the night, Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita must put their differences aside as they face the former Acclaimed in Max Caster and Anthony Bowens.

MxM TV will host an open casting call challenge to anyone on the roster.

The newly formed team of Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir will be in action against the debuting Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize.

Fright Night Collision!

Taped in Edinburg, Texas.

The show started off with a ppv-quality “Day of the Dead” inspired video package previewing tonight’s matches.

Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness were on commentary.

Konosuke Takeshita & Kazuchika Okada vs. The Acclaimed

Don Callis joined the commentary team for this one, as he is wont to do when his men are wrestling. The match was about both teams miscommunicating and fighting with each other.

Max Caster is still carrying around his “Best Wrestler Alive” framed paperwork, so now Bowens is carrying around five framed magazine covers.

Bowens caught Takeshita with a snap mare and celebrated like he won the World title. They exchanged chops, then Takeshita caught Bowens with a flying clothesline. Bowens caught Takeshita with a spinning DDT, and Caster forced his own tag into the match.

Okada caught Caster with a knee to the back, but a miscommunication sent Okada and Takeshita on the floor. Bowens claimed up the top for a crossbody, but while he was doing that, Caster hit a tope on their opponents. Okada and Takeshita came back and each hit one of their opponents with a DDT.

Back in the ring, Okada forced his own tag into the match against Caster, and hit him with the falling elbow off the top. Okada then flipped off Takeshita, and almost got rolled up in the process.

Okada pulled Caster out of the way of a Takeshita charge in the corner to hit him for a neckbreaker. While Takeshita and Okada argued, Bowens got the tag. Bowens hit Takeshita with a dropkick that sent him into Okada. Bowens actually held his own against both guys for a bit, until Okada caught him with a flapjack.

After a commercial, Caster caught Takeshita with a crossbody off the top and followed up with a Russian Legsweep. Caster hit an inverted death valley driver for a near fall. The Acclaimed tried for a Magic Killer, but Takeshita got out of it. Okada made the save on a pin attempt and got the tag, but Bowens took him down with a neckbreaker.

Bowens tried to go to the top, but Okada caught him and set up a superplex. Takeshita got under Okada and powerbombed him to the mat while Okada was delivering the suplerplex.

Okada went for a dropkick, but Bowens avoided it and delivered an inverted Olympic Slam for a near fall. Bowens went for a rolling forearm, but Okada avoided it and Takeshita gave him a blue thunder bomb. Okada went for the rain maker, but Bowens avoided that and Okada almost nailed Takeshita.

Bowens hit Okada with his uranage, but Caster made the blind tag and went to deliver his big elbow. But Bowens wouldn’t get out of the way.  So Caster and Bowens argued and brawled. Okada grabbed Bowens and dumped him with a Rainmaker. Okada went for Caster (the legal man) next, but Takeshita got in and hit The Raging Fire to get the pinfall. And both teams still aren’t getting along.

Result: Konosuke Takeshita & Kazuchika Okada defeated The Acclaimed (11:29 aired)

— Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron think that their ability to smile (and enticing proportions) will allow them to withstand the assault of Mercedes Moné and Athena and their bunches of titles in their tag team quarterfinal match this Wednesday.

— Toni Storm narrated a video package of Storm and Mina Shirakawa highlights.

Mercedes Moné vs. Olympia for the CMLL World Women’s Championship

Kris Statlander was on commentary for this match.  Mercedes only had four belt boys with her tonight, so some of them had to double and triple up. Moné carried her CMLL and TBS Championship belts with her to the ring.

Moné tried for a rana early, but Olympia blocked it. Moné eventually did get her over and both women exchanged cradles for near falls. Olympica laid out Moné in the corner and then did an impressive handstand on the top rope before dropping down on a prone Mercedes. Olympia then gorilla-pressed Mercedes with one arm before dropping her to the mat.

They fought over to the post on the outside. Mercedes rammed her into the turnbuckle hooks and Olympia dropped to the floor. Mercedes followed up with a meteora off the apron. It looked like she landed awkwardly but seemed fine.

After a commercial, Olympia was back in control in the ring.  Olympia did another cool spot where she went for a dropkick while Moné was in the ropes, but she avoided it. Olympia then went through the ropes and skinned the cat back into the ring, landing on Mercedes and going back on the attack.

Moné tried a monkey flip, but Olympia’s was too powerful, so Mercedes countered her power with a springboard DDT for a near fall. Moné caught Olympia with an arm breaker and went for the Money Maker, but Olympia countered with a cradle. Olympia picked up Mercedes with a fireman’s carry and dumped her face-first to the mat for another near fall.

Then went to the floor, and Mercedes threw Olympia into Statlander. Statlander and Moné got into each other’s faces, but Olympia pulled Moné back into the ring. Olympia sent Moné into the ropes but Mone snagged her in the Money Maker, and Olympia had to tap out.

Result: Merecedes Moné retained the CMLL World Women’s Championship by tap out (8:52 aired)

— A recap of last Wednesday’s Dynamite aired, highlighting Orange Cassidy’s challenge for Blood and Guts.

— Last Wednesday after Dynamite, Rene Paquette interviewed the Young Bucks following their loss. Don Callis interrupted to let the Bucks know that there’s a Million Dollar Tag match on the table at Full Gear: The Bucks teaming with Callis’s man Josh Alexander v. Kenny Omega and Jurassic Express. The Bucks looked conflicted about accepting the match, and it wasn’t in the official rundown of Full Gear later in the show.

Nixon Newell & Miranda Alize vs. Megan Bayne & Marina Shafir (w/ Penelope Ford)

Newell is the former Teagan Nox, and Alize is a student from Booker T’s school. Jon Moxley joined the commentary team to talk up the Bayne/Shafir team.

Newell and Alize attacked before the bell, and actually got the advantage on Bayne for a bit. They caught Bayne with a double superkick. Bayne finally had enough and gave both of them a German suplex at the same time, and the squash was on.  Bayne tagged in Shafir, who floored Newell with kicks and throws. Bayne hit a running Liger Bomb on one of her opponents while Shafir choked out the other, and that was that.

Match Result: Megan Bayne & Marina Shafir defeated Nixon Newell & Miranda Alize (2:28)

Women’s Blood and Guts Announcement

Rene Paquette made an announcment of the two all-star teams for the first ever Women’s Blood and Guts match: Thekla, Syke Blue, Julia Hart, Megan Bayne, Marina Shafir, Mercedes Moné will take on Jamie Hayer, Queen Aminata, Harley Cameron, WIllow Nightingale, Toni Storm and Kris Statlander.

Komander, Mark Briscoe & Roderick Strong vs. Dralístico, The Beast Mortos & Sammy Guevara

Guevara now has a Vince McMahon style pencil-thin mustache which is the worst thing to happen to an AEW wrestler’s face since Cody’s tattoo. But at least Sammy can shave that off.

Briscoe and Mortos squared off and have a nice little power battle. Guevara jumped on commentary for a minute and put over Nigel. Briscoe landed on his feet out of a Mortos backdrop and delivered some redneck kung fu. Komander got the tag and Guevara charged in, getting backdropped over the ropes for his troubles.

Komander came off the top and ran right into a knee from Guevara while everyone else brawled on the floor, with the LFI guys getting the advantage.

After a break, Komander and Dralístico were fighting in the ring. Komander hit a springboard destroyer. Dralístico tried for a powerbomb, but Komander flipped into a face buster. Strong and Guevara got the tags, and Strong dominated Guevara with a backbreaker and an Olympic Slam for a near fall. Mortos ran in and hit Strong with a headbutt. Mortos hit a backstabber, then held Strong open for a double stomp from Dralístico.

Strong got the tag to Briscoe, who took it to Mortos and Dralístico. Briscoe hit Dralístico with an exploder, then sent Guevara over the top rope with a right hand. Briscoe came off the top with a twisting corkscrew moonsault on his opponents on the floor.

Back in the ring, Briscoe dodged a corkscrew kick from Dralístico, then hit a Jaydriller for the pinfall.

Match Results: Komander, Mark Briscoe & Roderick Strong defeated Dralístico, The Beast Mortos & Sammy Guevara (9:22 aired)

In setting up a recap of the angle of the year, Tony Schiavone admitted that he was complicit in Hangman Adam Page’s scheme to attack Samoa Joe.

— After Dynamite Wednesday, Eddie Kingston tried to console Hook after his loss, while some cameraman questioned why Hook tapped out so quickly. “When you’re caught, you’re caught. Live to fight another day.”

MXM TV Casting Call

MXM dressed as each other for Halloween. Madden as Tara Valkyrie was quite the sight. Anyway they made their open challenge which led to…

Ace Austin, Austin Gunn & Juice Robinson v. Mason Madden, Mansoor, and Johnny TV (w/ Taya Valkyrie)

The crowd was especially into Ace Austin. Juice Robinson needs to go back to his 2018/19 New Japan gear. That was amazing, and much better than black jeans and a black t-shirt. Mansoor did that stupid “six seven!” meme while punching Robinson in the corner and got powerbombed for his troubles. Good.

Gunn hit Mansoor with a Famouser, Austin followed up his finisher “The Fold” and Robinson took the pinfall.

Match Result: Austin, Gunn & Robinson squashed Madden, Mansoor & Johnny TV (3:28)

New for Dynamite Wednesday: Adam Page, Hook, & Eddie Kingston v. The Opps in a non-title match.

Bandido v. Mascara Dorado (w/ Alex Abrahantes) for the ROH World Championship

A brief video package and the ring introductions once both competitors got to the ring gave this match a real big fight feel.

Dorado and Bandido exchanged surfboards in a crazy impressive sequence. Both guys knew what the other was going for and they kept countering each other. Dorado went for a dive on the floor, but Bandido got in the ring and Dorado landed on his feet. Bandido then went for his own drive but Dorado countered and sent Bandido into the ring barricade. Bandido hurt his arm on the landing.

Back in the ring, Dorado caught Bandido with a back elbow for a near fall. Dorado and Bandido exchanged chops. Bandido caught Dorado with a boot and a Tornio, then did a one-handed press slam of Dorado, despite his arm injury. The fight went to he floor, where Bandido sent Dorado into the apron face-first. Bandido followed that up with a dive.

Back in the ring, Bandido hit a frog splash for a near fall. Dorado came back and set up a crucifix powerbomb off the top, but sent Bandido down face-first instead. Dorado then hit a spinning DDT for a near fall.

They fought on the apron, and Bandido caught Dorado with a big boot. Bandido then pressed Dorado into a facebuster all the way to the floor, setting up another commercial break.

Back in the ring, Dorado dodged a charge in the corner, then hit a springboard crossbody. Dorado flipped off of Bandido’s shoulders and hit him with a step up rana to send Bandido to the floor. Dorado followed Bandido out with a tornio.

On the floor, Bandido came off the middle rope and nailed Bandido with a  a shooting star press to the floor. Back in the ring, Dorado came off the top and took Bandido down with a crucifix driver. The crowd chanted “This is Lucha!” while Dorado figured out what to do next.

Bandido came back with a running knee for a near fall. Dorado blocked a knee, and that sequence eventually led to Dorado suplexing Bandido. But he ran the ropes and Bandido flipped Dorado into a sit-out powerbomb. Both guys ran at each other with kicks and they both went down while the crowd chanted “Fight Forever!”

Dorado came off the top with a tornio into an arm drag, then rolled up Bandido for a near fall. Dorado caught Bandido with a La Magistral’s cradle for another near fall, and wrapped Bandido up in another crazy way for another near fall.

Dorado dumped Bandido to the mat and sprung to the top rope. Dorado went for a shooting star press, but Bandido got his knees up and cradled Dorado for two. Bandido tried for the 21-plex, but he came in too hot and rolled over the top rope. Bandido went to the top, but Dorado caught Bandido and hit him with a gamengiri, setting him up to be seated on the turnbuckles.

Dorado ran across the ring and went for a top rope rana, springing all the way onto Bandido’s chest and tried for the rana, but Bandido blocked it, tried for a power bomb, but Dorado blocked that hit the rana anyway for a near fall. Bandido got to his feet first, caught Dorado with a knee strike, and then hit the 21-plex for the pinfall.

This was absolutely tremendous. After the match, Bandido helped Dorado to his feet and both men hugged in a show of respect.

Match Result: Bandido pinned Mascara Dorado to retain the ROH World Championship (17:02 aired)

Mercedes Mone announced for November indie date

Mercedes Mone has added a new indie date to her November calendar.

The AEW star will be in action for House of Glory in Long Island, New York on Saturday, November 15. An opponent for Mone has not been named yet. The event is titled Superclash and is being held by House of Glory in collaboration with the Big Event Entertainment & Sports Expo convention.

Mone has wrestled for House of Glory once before, defeating Indi Hartwell this March. Hartwell is now the HOG Women’s Champion but has a title defense against Shotzi Blackheart coming up later in November.

Also in November, Mone will be making a trip to Italy for an indie date in Rome. She’ll be defending her Bestya Wrestling Women’s Championship in an open challenge at that November 9 show.

Mone is currently in possession of 12 title belts representing AEW, ROH, CMLL, and a bunch of indie promotions worldwide. She could add more gold to her belt collection when she challenges AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander at Full Gear on November 22.

The House of Glory Superclash show is taking place in Brentwood, New York at Suffolk Credit Union Arena. Shayna Baszler vs. Maki Itoh has already been announced, along with Scarlett Bordeaux & Shotzi vs. Priscilla Kelly & Allie Katch.

Willow Nightingale, Harley Cameron praise Mercedes Mone: ‘She’s always growing’

Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron both heaped praise on Mercedes Mone during a recent interview.

Nightingale and Cameron will face Mone and Athena in the opening round of the AEW Women’s Tag Team title tournament. They both spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Rick Ucchino about the TBS Champion.

“I don’t think there’s anyone as well studied as she is,” Nightingale said of Mone.

“One of the key elements of All Elite Wrestling is passion, and that is something that she just has like pouring out of her,” Nightingale continued. “You know, do I want to be TBS Champion, 12 belts person? Yeah. Who doesn’t, right? We’re all doing this ’cause we want to be that, but I can’t be angry that I’m not because she is doing all that it takes to be that person. She talks the talk and she walks the walk.”

Cameron said she’s impressed by how Mone continues learning and growing as a performer.

“I’ve never met anyone this far into their wrestling journey that treats every day like it’s the first day,” Cameron said. “I respect her approach… She’s always growing, learning, evolving.”

“I’ll see her at a random training session that someone of her caliber, probably most people, wouldn’t be going to… She’s always working. And I think that’s what makes her stand apart and why her success has been legendary. Especially this run because she’s someone who has that mindset of always keep working.”

In addition to the women’s tag team tournament, Mone is also scheduled to challenge for the AEW Women’s World Championship against Kris Statlander at Full Gear on November 22. Statlander, Cameron, and Mone were involved in a segment on AEW Dynamite last week as Mone celebrated winning her 12th championship. Cameron cut a promo as the Mini Mone puppet, and the segment ended with Cameron and Statlander sending Mone’s face into a large cake that had been part of her celebration.

Cameron and Nightingale’s full interview with Sports Illustrated is available here.

Mercedes Mone to defend CMLL Women’s title on next AEW Collision

Image: AEW

Mercedes Mone will put up the CMLL Women’s Championship on next Saturday’s AEW Collision against Olympia.

Olympia made her AEW debut Saturday, defeating Taya Valkyrie in an open challenge. In a backstage promo afterward, she challenged Mone to the match for next Saturday.

It will be their first time ever sharing the ring.

Mone won the gold on this past June’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico by defeating Zeuxis. Since then, she has defended it twice with wins over La Catalina (June) and Persephone (October). Olympia is looking for her first title run anywhere.

Mone currently holds 12 title belts that includes the TBS title, interim Ring of Honor Women’s TV title, and various indie belts. She and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena have also entered the inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team title tournament.

Next week’s Collision will be taped after this Wednesday’s live Dynamite from Edinburg, Texas. The title match is the only one announced for the taping thus far.

Red Velvet cleared for return, calls out Mercedes Mone for ROH unification match

Nearly a week after Mercedes Mone won the interim Ring of Honor Women’s TV title, the reigning titleholder announced she is ready to return.

During Thursday’s ROH on HonorClub, Red Velvet appeared (seen below) to say that she is medically cleared and was focused on rebuilding her body. She told Mone to enjoy her time with the title and remember her face as the next time she sees it, her entire empire crumbles.

AEW & ROH head Tony Khan revealed in July that Velvet was injured and a new interim champion would be crowned. Our Dave Meltzer reported that she suffered a neck injury during a June 20 match in CMLL during AEW Grand Slam Mexico week at Arena Mexico. She hasn’t wrestled anywhere since.

Mina Shirakawa became the interim champion, got injured herself, and then lost the title to Mone at this past Saturday’s WrestleDream.

Mone, who currently holds 12 title belts, is teaming with ROH Women’s World Champion Athena in the inaugural AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship tournament that begins next week so there’s no clear answer as to when a unification match could happen. She is also slated to challenge Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World title at next month’s Full Gear.

AEW star Mercedes Mone to defend indie title in Italy

On November 9, AEW star Mercedes Mone will be in Italy to defend one of her many championships.

Mone — who is currently in possession of 12 title belts — became the Women’s Champion for Italian indie promotion Bestya Wrestling this July. She now has her first title defense scheduled for Rome on November 9. It’s an open challenge where the identity of Mone’s opponent has not been announced yet.

“Italy, please say hello to your CEO and your Bestya Women’s Champion,” Mone said. “November 9, I am making my way to Rome to defend my Bestya Women’s Championship. But against who? Exactly, who? I have been all over social media saying, ‘Who wants to fight me?’ But I want to know who’s brave enough to try and jump on the Mone train.”

With her belt collector gimmick, Mone has been traveling the world in an attempt to win even more gold. She currently holds these championships:

  • AEW TBS Championship
  • AEW Owen Hart Cup Championship (ceremonial)
  • Interim ROH Women’s TV Championship
  • CMLL Women’s World Championship (Mexico)
  • RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship (United Kingdom)
  • Queen of Southside Championship (inactive, unified with RevPro title)
  • EWA Women’s Championship (Austria)
  • Bestya Wrestling Women’s Championship (Italy)
  • Prime Time Wrestling Women’s Championship (Poland)
  • Discovery Wrestling Women’s Championship (Scotland)
  • Bodyslam Women’s Championship (Denmark)
  • Winnipeg Pro Women’s Championship (Canada)

There are still more opportunities for Mone to win new gold in the near future. She’s challenging Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World Championship next month at Full Gear. In addition to that, Mone is partnering with Athena in the tournament to crown the first-ever AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions.

AEW Women’s World Tag Team title tournament bracket revealed

Eight teams will vie to be the inaugural AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions in a tournament that begins next week.

On one side of the bracket, former AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter will team with Queen Aminata against the Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart & Skye Blue) while TBS Champion Mercedes Mone will team with ROH Women’s World Champion Athena against Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron.

On the other side of the bracket, former AEW Women’s World Champion Riho returns to team with Alex Windsor against former AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa while Anna Jay & Tay Melo battle Penelope Ford & Megan Bayne.

**********

Hayter and Aminata were victorious on Wednesday’s Dynamite in a four-way tag team match to earn the opportunity to call out their opponents in the first round, challenging Hart and Blue (even though none of the teams had been announced for the tournament yet.)

After taking a few months off, Athena returned Wednesday to console Mone and suggest they team up in the tournament after she was smashed into a cake and put through a table by AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander.

While the tournament starts next week on the Fright Night edition of Dynamite, no other details were given as to when the finals will be. However, next month’s Full Gear pay-per-view seems like a strong possibility.

AEW Women’s World Tag Team title tournament bracket:

Left side:

  • Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata vs. Julia Hart & Skye Blue
  • Mercedes Mone & Athena vs. Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron

Right side:

  • Riho & Alex Windsor vs. Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa
  • Anna Jay & Tay Melo vs. Penelope Ford & Megan Bayne

World title match official for AEW Full Gear

TBS Champion Mercedes Mone will get her second shot at becoming AEW Women’s World Champion as she will challenge Kris Statlander at next month’s Full Gear.

During Wednesday’s Dynamite in a backstage segment with Renee Paquette, Statlander accepted Mone’s challenge that was issued at last Saturday’s WrestleDream. Mone currently holds 12 championship belts and hosted a championship celebration during Dynamite that was upended by Statlander and Harley Cameron that saw Mone’s face smashed into a cake and her put through a table.

The match is the first official bout for the pay-per-view.

On Saturday, Statlander was celebrating her title defense over Toni Storm when Mone interrupted her moment and told her to get out of her ring. Statlander relented but returned to lay Mone out after her record 11th simultaneous title victory over interim ROH Women’s TV Champion Mina Shirakawa.

It will be their third-ever singles meeting. They have twice squared off for the TBS title during Mone’s record run, once at last year’s Full Gear and again at Worlds End. In both cases, Mone picked up the win.

Mone unsuccessfully challenged then-Women’s World Champion Storm at this past July’s All In Texas in her only shot at the gold.

Tony Khan says Mercedes Mone ‘not really making money’ on indie bookings

Tony Khan has commented on Mercedes Mone’s independent bookings.

Mone captured her 12th championship this weekend, defeating Jody Threat for the WPW Women’s title in Winnipeg on Sunday. During an interview on Z100 on Tuesday, Tony Khan said that Mone’s bookings outside AEW show her love for wrestling.

Khan said:

“With all the commitments Mercedes has taken on, I think it’s really impressive. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, that shows it’s not about pure greed and money for Mercedes because a lot of these places she’s wrestling, Winnipeg, Canada, Denmark, they’re not the highest paying places. She’s not really making money from these. She loves wrestling. She loves building up companies, she loves meeting new young stars and she really cares about the craft and the sport of wrestling.”

The topic of Mone winning championships from independent promotions all over the world has been a topic of some debate online. The official social media accounts for Winnipeg Pro Wrestling responded to people online who were critical of Mone winning such titles, writing:

“Hey there I’m the one that booked her, picked her up from the airport and was with her all day. I’m the one that sees the ticket sales and budgets, I’m the one that saw kids crying and shaking when they met her. Hope this helps.”

WPW co-owner Devin Bray also told Post Wrestling that Mone’s appearance on their show on Sunday led to them being discovered by hundreds of local wrestling fans that did not know about the promotion previously.

“We attracted, I’d say, a couple of hundred more people who didn’t know we existed who live here and are wrestling fans. So it just took us to a whole new level.”

Tony Khan’s appearance on Z100 is available below:

Indie promoter praises Mercedes Mone: ‘Took us to a whole new level’

Winnipeg Pro Wrestling says Mercedes Mone’s appearance on their show has taken the promotion to “a whole new level.”

Mone won her 12th title on Sunday, defeating Jody Threat for the WPW Women’s Championship at WPW Rumble in the Burt. On Monday, our own Dave Meltzer posted a comment online about how Mone has elevated each of the titles she holds, writing, “The very idea that Mercedes holding these titles is bad for any of these titles is ludicrous. She’s elevated (every) single one of them.”

A user on X responded, “In what world?” Leading the official WPW account to reply:

“Hey there I’m the one that booked her, picked her up from the airport and was with her all day. I’m the one that sees the ticket sales and budgets, I’m the one that saw kids crying and shaking when they met her. Hope this helps.”

Meltzer also responded to another user on X who was critical of Mone, writing:

“Find me one promoter who gave her a title who tells you they regret it. Just one”

WPW co-owner Devin Bray also spoke to Jack Wannan of Post Wrestling prior to Sunday’s show and commented on the impact Mone had on the event.

“We attracted, I’d say, a couple of hundred more people who didn’t know we existed who live here and are wrestling fans. So it just took us to a whole new level.”

Bray also commented on what led to Mone being booked for the show, which came two nights after she defended her CMLL Women’s title at Arena Mexico, and one night after she defeated Mina Shirakawa for the ROH Women’s TV title at AEW WrestleDream.

“I saw she tweeted a couple of months ago, ‘I want to go to Canada’ or something. I was like, f***, if she’s saying that, I’ll just shoot my shot.”

According to the promotion, Sunday’s show at the Burton Cummings Theatre in Winnipeg drew 1600 fans. In addition to performing on the show, Mone also took part in a Meet and Greet beforehand that was free to anyone who purchased a ticket.
