Megan Bayne to wrestle singles match at upcoming CMLL event

An injury in AEW has resulted in changes for CMLL.

Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford were scheduled to wrestle as a team this Friday at CMLL’s La Noche de Las Amazonas (literally, “Night of the Amazons”), an all-women’s show. Ford, however, suffered an ankle injury against the Babes of Wrath on AEW Dynamite last week. Though the injury is not believed to be severe, it is going to keep her off of this weekend’s card.

Instead, Megan Bayne will wrestle a singles match against Olympia. It will be Bayne’s debut in CMLL, her first match in Mexico, and the first time she has wrestled Olympia.

Mina Shirakawa will also be in Mexico City, facing Zeuxis. This will be Shirakawa’s second appearance in Mexico, and technically the second time she has faced Zeuxis. Both wrestlers took part in the 18-woman Team Mexico vs. Team World Torneo Cibernetico at CMLL International Women’s Grand Prix at Arena Mexico last October.

Olympia and Zeuxis have each appeared on AEW television a handful of times. Zeuxis wrestled a pair of matches against Mercedes Mone, losing both: once in an unsuccessful challenge for Mone’s AEW TBS Championship last June, and then losing the CMLL World Women’s Championship the next week at Grand Slam Mexico.

Olympia then had a win over Taya Valkyrie last October before losing a challenge for Mone’s CMLL World Women’s Championship a week later.

The card so far for La Noche de Las Amazonas:

  • CMLL World Women’s Championship Match: Mercedes Moné (c) vs. Persephone
  • CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: Starlight Kid Mei Seira vs. Las Chicas Indomables (Lluvia & La Jarochita)
  • Copa Irma González 2026 Marcela vs. Princesa Sugehit vs. La Magnifica
  • Megan Bayne vs. Olympia
  • Zeuxis vs. Mina Shirakawa
  • Garra Negra & Keyra vs. La Catalina & Sanely

Mercedes Mone to defend CMLL Women’s title on next AEW Collision

Mercedes Mone will put up the CMLL Women’s Championship on next Saturday’s AEW Collision against Olympia.

Olympia made her AEW debut Saturday, defeating Taya Valkyrie in an open challenge. In a backstage promo afterward, she challenged Mone to the match for next Saturday.

It will be their first time ever sharing the ring.

Mone won the gold on this past June’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico by defeating Zeuxis. Since then, she has defended it twice with wins over La Catalina (June) and Persephone (October). Olympia is looking for her first title run anywhere.

Mone currently holds 12 title belts that includes the TBS title, interim Ring of Honor Women’s TV title, and various indie belts. She and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena have also entered the inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team title tournament.

Next week’s Collision will be taped after this Wednesday’s live Dynamite from Edinburg, Texas. The title match is the only one announced for the taping thus far.

CMLL women’s wrestler makes AEW debut on Collision

CMLL women’s wrestler Olympia made her AEW debut on Saturday’s Collision from San Antonio, Texas.

She made her surprise appearance by challenging Taya Valkyrie in an MxM TV open challenge, dispatching the veteran in short order.

Olympia has competed in the Khan companies before, appearing twice for Ring of Honor this past September. She bested Viva Van in a Pure rules match and then lost to Billie Starkz in a quarterfinal in the inaugural Women’s Pure title tournament.

It’s expected the appearance will help build a future match with Mercedes Mone, who holds the CMLL Women’s title.

From our Dave Meltzer in this past Friday’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter from the previous Friday’s CMLL show:

“They did an angle in Arena Mexico for (WrestleDream) the next day that almost nobody was going to see and that social media might get out a little but not nearly enough. Mone then issued an open challenge to any woman in the back for the CMLL title. Olympia came out and Mone said she would defend against her, but in the U.S., so they are likely doing that match in AEW or ROH in the next few weeks.”
