Rose-Deville hair vs. hair match set for WWE SummerSlam

Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville are putting their hair on the line at SummerSlam.

After an angle setting up the match took place on SmackDown two weeks ago, WWE announced tonight that Rose and Deville will face off in a hair vs. hair match at SummerSlam. The pay-per-view is taking place on Sunday, August 23.

Rose cut a promo on SmackDown tonight challenging Deville to the hair vs. hair match at SummerSlam. She asked if Deville really thinks she’s the first person to say Rose is just a pretty face. Rose said she’s been hearing things like that for her entire life and it still hurts to this day. Rose said Deville of all people should know how hard she works. She thanked Deville for reminding her that she’s so much more than just a pretty face. After saying Deville is sitting on her high horse and pretending like she doesn’t care how she looks, Rose told Deville to put her money where her mouth is and face her in a hair vs. hair match.

Later on tonight’s show, Deville responded to Rose and accepted the challenge.

Deville attacked Rose backstage on SmackDown two weeks ago, cut off some of Rose’s hair, and then went to shave Rose’s head until being stopped by officials. Rose then appeared last week and brawled with Deville during a match between Heavy Machinery and The Miz & John Morrison.

Here’s the updated card for SummerSlam:

  • WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defending against Randy Orton
  • Raw Women’s Champion Sasha Banks defending against Asuka
  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defending against Asuka
  • Universal Champion Braun Strowman defending against “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt
  • Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits defending against Andrade & Angel Garza
  • United States Champion Apollo Crews defending against MVP
  • Seth Rollins vs. Dominik Mysterio
  • Hair vs. hair match: Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville

Firefly Fun House, Miz TV segments announced for WWE SmackDown

This Friday’s episode of SmackDown will include Bray Wyatt’s return to WWE television.

A commercial aired during Raw tonight announcing that there will be a Firefly Fun House segment on SmackDown this Friday. This will be the first time Wyatt has appeared since unsuccessfully challenging Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship at Money in the Bank last month.

Instead of wrestling as The Fiend, Wyatt faced Strowman as himself at Money in the Bank.

Strowman retained the Universal Championship by defeating The Miz & John Morrison in a handicap match at Backlash last night.

WWE has also announced that there will be a Miz TV segment on this week’s SmackDown. Mandy Rose will appear as the guest, and the segment will focus on her feud with Sonya Deville.

On SmackDown last week, AJ Styles defeated Daniel Bryan in the finals of WWE’s Intercontinental title tournament. Styles did a backstage interview at Backlash announcing that he’ll be having a championship presentation on SmackDown this Friday. Styles said he wants everyone to be there, including Bryan because he has the most to learn. Styles said Bryan is one of the best ever — but he’s just not phenomenal.

Matt Riddle will also debut on SmackDown this week.

Four matches announced for next week’s WWE SmackDown

Much of the lineup for next Friday’s SmackDown has already been revealed.

– NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley will face off in a non-title champion vs. champion match on next Friday’s show. That was set up when Charlotte appeared on SmackDown tonight as part of the brand-to-brand invitation.

Bayley challenged Charlotte to the champion vs. champion match and Charlotte accepted. Charlotte also asked if Sasha Banks is her own woman or if she’s happy being Bayley’s lackey and an afterthought.

– The first round of WWE’s Intercontinental title tournament will conclude with the remaining first round matches taking place on next week’s SmackDown. Jeff Hardy will face off with Sheamus, and AJ Styles will take on Shinsuke Nakamura. The winner of Hardy vs. Sheamus will advance to face Daniel Bryan in the semifinals. The winner of Styles vs. Nakamura will advance to a semifinal match against Elias.

– A mixed tag grudge match is also set for SmackDown next week. It will be Mandy Rose & Otis vs. Sonya Deville & Dolph Ziggler.

Following his win in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, Otis appeared on a Miz TV segment at the start of SmackDown tonight. It led to Braun Strowman later agreeing to team with Otis in the main event and them defeating Miz & Morrison.

A promo with Deville and Ziggler also aired on SmackDown tonight, with Deville saying Rose will never be a winner like her and will never have the skill, talent, charisma, and mind that Deville has. Deville said she’s just getting started ruining Rose’s life.

Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville announced for WWE SmackDown

Sonya Deville vs. Mandy Rose will happen this Friday.

It was announced tonight during Raw that Mandy Rose will face Sonya Deville on SmackDown. The two have been feuding for the last few weeks, ever since it was revealed that it was Sonya Deville who conspired with Dolph Ziggler to stop the relationship between Otis and Mandy Rose before it could go any further.

Deville has been determined to go after Rose at any cost since then, wanting the spotlight away from Rose and on her. Deville cost Rose a chance at entering the Money in the Bank ladder match after Deville distracted her last week.

Otis, who also had a Money in the Bank qualifying match that night, went on to defeat Dolph Ziggler to enter the match.

Already announced for SmackDown is a face-to-face between Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman ahead of their Money in the Bank Universal title match, the return of Jeff Hardy, Tamina & Lacey Evans vs. Sasha Banks & Bayley and a six-man tag team match pitting King Corbin, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Cesaro vs. Daniel Bryan, Drew Gulak, and a partner of their choosing.

Two MITB qualifiers, Corbin vs. Bryan set for WWE SmackDown

Two Money in the Bank qualifying matches are set for next week’s SmackDown.

On the men’s side, Otis will face Dolph Ziggler. The two have been feuding for months, mostly centering around Mandy Rose. Otis defeated Ziggler at WrestleMania 36, with Mandy Rose choosing Otis after a hacker revealed that Sonya Deville had concocted a plot to drive Mandy away from Otis.

Mandy, meanwhile, will face Carmella in the other qualifying match. Carmella’ tag team partner, Dana Brooke, qualified last week.

Daniel Bryan vs. King Corbin has also been announced. Both men have qualified for Money in the Bank, but Bryan is looking to face Corbin after he defeated his tag team partner Drew Gulak tonight to qualify.

The Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match currently has Bryan, Rey Mysterio, Aleister Black, Apollo Crews, and Corbin, while the Women’s match has Asuka, Shayna Baszler, Brooke, and Lacey Evans, who defeated Sasha Banks tonight to advance.

WOL: Why the bad SmackDown date was best for Otis

With some fans upset that Dolph Ziggler ruined Otis’ Valentines Day date with Mandy Rose on WWE SmackDown, I’ll explain on this Saturday edition of Wrestling Observer Live why this failed attempt at romance is actually a good thing for the big man.

I’ll also take a look at a few other key moments on from Friday’s show including Apollo Crews, Carmella, and more. Also, is WWE Universal Champion Bray Wyatt’s new gimmick that he was a WCW superfan growing up as a kid?

Plus, while ticket sales are good, AEW Double or Nothing II in Las Vegas wasn’t a one day sellout. What does this mean for the company and does it say anything about momentum and its fanbase?

I also hit on news and notes about Will Ospreay, Kagetsu, Becky Lynch, and more on Wrestling Observer Live.

Otis & Mandy Rose date set for Valentine’s Day WWE SmackDown

A date between Mandy Rose and Otis has been announced for the Valentine’s Day edition of SmackDown.

A backstage segment aired on tonight’s show between Heavy Machinery and Fire & Desire. Otis asked Mandy if she would go out on a date with him next week. Mandy said that she was busy next week, but she wasn’t doing anything the following week, which would be on Valentine’s Day.

The romance of sorts between Otis and Mandy Rose has been built up over the last several weeks. Otis has been helping Mandy win matches, but has also inadvertently cost Sonia Deville matches along the way. However, both she and Sonia Deville were eliminated after Deville was tossed over the rope and collided with Mandy Rose, who was being carried by Otis.

During the Royal Rumble last Sunday, Otis helped Mandy Rose avoid elimination when he laid on the ground, protecting her feet from hitting the floor.

The Valentine’s Day edition of SmackDown will take place at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Six-woman tag match added to next week’s WWE SmackDown

Bayley and her next challenger will face off in a six-woman tag match on next week’s episode of SmackDown.

WWE has added SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley, Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville vs. Nikki Cross, Carmella & Dana Brooke to the lineup for next Friday’s show. Cross won a six-pack challenge last week to become the number one contender to Bayley’s title, though WWE hasn’t announced when Cross will be getting her title shot.

Cross pinned Rose in the six-pack challenge, which also included Deville, Carmella, Brooke, and Lacey Evans. On last night’s SmackDown, Cross defeated Rose in a singles match.

Bayley and Sasha Banks were on commentary for Cross vs. Rose. Cross had a staredown with them after the match.

Next Friday’s SmackDown is taking place the day after Crown Jewel. The KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York is hosting SmackDown, with Roman Reigns vs. Baron Corbin, The Revival vs. Kofi Kingston & Big E for the SmackDown Tag Team titles, and a Miz TV segment with Bray Wyatt also announced for the show.

Miz TV with Hogan-Flair, two matches set for WWE SmackDown

WWE has announced two matches for tomorrow’s SmackDown and revealed Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair’s roles for the show.

The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) will face Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode on the episode. Nikki Cross vs. Mandy Rose is also set.

Hogan and Flair will appear on Miz TV, with Hogan being joined by Roman Reigns, Ali, and Shorty G (Chad Gable). Flair will be joined by Shinsuke Nakamura and King Corbin.

Team Hogan (Reigns, Rusev, Ricochet, Ali & Gable) are facing Team Flair (Randy Orton, Corbin, Bobby Lashley, Nakamura & Drew McIntyre) at Crown Jewel next Thursday (October 31).

New Day and Ziggler & Roode will both be in the World Cup tag team turmoil match at Crown Jewel. The Viking Raiders, Heavy Machinery, The Lucha House Party, Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins, The Revival, The O.C., and The B-Team have also been confirmed for the match.

Big E, Xavier Woods & Heavy Machinery defeated Ziggler, Roode & The Revival on SmackDown last week. Woods is out of action after suffering an Achilles injury at Monday’s house show in Sydney, Australia.

Cross won a six-pack challenge last Friday to become the number one contender to Bayley’s SmackDown Women’s Championship. Cross pinned Rose in the match, which also included Sonya Deville, Carmella, Lacey Evans, and Dana Brooke.

Due to game three of the World Series being on FOX, SmackDown will air live on FS1 tomorrow. A face-to-face segment with Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez is also set for the episode. Lesnar will defend his WWE Championship against Velasquez at Crown Jewel.

Women’s Tag title match, Mysterio vs. Andrade added to WWE Raw

Two more matches have been added to the lineup for tonight’s SummerSlam go-home show.

WWE has announced that Women’s Tag Team Champions Peyton Royce & Billie Kay will defend their titles against Asuka & Kairi Sane, Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, and Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross in a fatal four-way elimination match on Raw. Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade is also set for tonight’s episode.

Royce & Kay vs. Rose & Deville in a non-title match was set up for last week’s SmackDown, but the match didn’t end up happening. WWE uploaded a video where The IIconics claimed that Kay had “puppy fever” and couldn’t wrestle on the show. Rose & Deville and Asuka & Sane then argued over who should get the next title shot.

Bliss & Cross defeated Bayley & Ember Moon on SmackDown last week.

Andrade eliminated Mysterio during a gauntlet match on last Monday’s Raw. He then ripped off Mysterio’s mask in a post-match angle.

Ricochet won the gauntlet match and will challenge for AJ Styles’ United States Championship at SummerSlam.

The PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is hosting tonight’s Raw. Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya & Trish Stratus, a Miz TV segment with Shawn Michaels and Dolph Ziggler, and an appearance by Brock Lesnar have also been confirmed for the episode.

Three matches added to SmackDown, fatal five-way set for 205 Live

WWE has added three matches to the lineup for tonight’s SmackDown.

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston will take on Sami Zayn in a non-title match, Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch will team with new SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley in a tag match against Charlotte Flair & Lacey Evans, and Mandy Rose will face Carmella.

Kingston retained his title against Kevin Owens at Money in the Bank on Sunday.

The SmackDown Women’s Championship changed hands twice at Sunday’s pay-per-view, with Charlotte first defeating Lynch for the title. Bayley saved Lynch from Charlotte and Evans in a post-match angle, then cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase she won earlier in the night and became SmackDown Women’s Champion by defeating Charlotte.

Rose and Carmella have been going back and forth on social media after their interactions in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

Bayley giving an “exclusive interview,” The New Day holding a welcome back celebration for Big E, and Roman Reigns vs. Elias are also set for SmackDown.

SmackDown and 205 Live are taking place at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island tonight. A fatal five-way main event has been announced for 205 Live. It will feature Ariya Daivari, Mike Kanellis, Oney Lorcan, Brian Kendrick, and Akira Tozawa.

Daivari unsuccessfully challenged for Tony Nese’s Cruiserweight Championship at Money in the Bank.

Matches announced for next week’s WWE SmackDown, 205 Live

WWE has announced the first few matches for next week’s SmackDown and 205 Live television tapings in London, England.

On SmackDown, Asuka & Kairi Sane will team against Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville. Rose & Deville defeated Ember Moon & Carmella on last night’s episode. Paige then appeared with Asuka & Sane and announced the tag team match for next Tuesday.

Members of the NXT UK roster will be appearing on next week’s 205 Live. Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese will face Ligero in a non-title match, which comes in advance of Nese defending his title against Ariya Daivari at Money in the Bank on May 19.

A fatal four-way match between Jack Gallagher, Humberto Carrillo, Mark Andrews, and James Drake is also set for next week’s 205 Live. Andrews and Drake are both on the NXT UK roster. Drake & Zack Gibson are the current NXT UK Tag Team Champions.

Next week’s Raw and SmackDown are both being taped at the O2 Arena in London.

Asuka’s WM challenger to be decided on next week’s WWE SmackDown

Asuka didn’t make an appearance on this week’s SmackDown, but WWE has announced how her challenger for WrestleMania will be determined.

WWE uploaded a post-show video where Kayla Braxton interviewed Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. Rose vs. Deville vs. Naomi vs. Carmella in a fatal four-way match was announced for next week’s SmackDown, with the winner challenging for Asuka’s SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 35.

Asuka retained her title by defeating Rose at Fastlane earlier this month. The finish of the match was Asuka hitting a kick and pinning Rose after Rose slipped on a kendo stick that Deville put on the ring apron. Asuka then defeated Deville on last week’s SmackDown. This time, the finish was Rose trying to interfere but causing Deville to slip.

Asuka has been SmackDown Women’s Champion since defeating Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in a tables, ladders, and chairs match at December’s TLC pay-per-view.

Next week’s SmackDown is taking place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Asuka ‘fine’ following back injury at WWE SmackDown house show

Asuka is okay after suffering a back injury at a Smackdown house show tonight.

She was in a match against Mandy Rose at a house show event in White Plains, New York when, according to reports, landed on her head and neck badly after a move by Rose. After Asuka was unable to get up right away, The match was stopped and Asuka had to be helped to the back.

A short time later, Asuka posted on Twitter that she was alright, writing “I’m sorry for worrying you. Hit my back but That’s fine.”

She also clarified earlier reports that it was a head or neck injury, saying “It is neither a concussion nor a neck.”

Asuka and Mandy Rose have been feuding since Rose pinned Asuka on SmackDown several weeks ago. Asuka will defend the SmackDown women’s championship at Fastlane, which will take place this Sunday in Cleveland, Ohio.

Asuka vs. Mandy Rose title match official for WWE Fastlane

Asuka and Mandy Rose didn’t appear on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown, but their title match has still been made official for Fastlane.

Asuka defending her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rose at Fastlane was announced during a post-SmackDown video that was uploaded by WWE. Rose and Sonya Deville were interviewed by Kayla Braxton, with Rose saying that she’ll become champion at the pay-per-view.

Rose was set up as the next challenger for the SmackDown Women’s Championship when she pinned Asuka in a non-title match last week. Rose faked an eye injury, threw Asuka into the ropes, and rolled her up to get the win.

The Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio will host Fastlane on March 10. Here’s the updated card:

  • WWE Champion Daniel Bryan defending against Kevin Owens
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Bayley defending against Nia Jax & Tamina
  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka defending against Mandy Rose
  • SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos defending against Shane McMahon & The Miz
