WWE Elimination Chamber notes: Orton gets advantage, Deville & Rose start

The first two teams to enter the Women’s tag team title Elimination Chamber match has been determined, while we also now know who will enter the WWE title Elimination Chamber match last.

Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose lost tonight to Carmella & Naomi and the Iiconics in a three way match where the team that was pinned would start their Elimination Chamber match on Sunday. Naomi pinned Rose with a split legged moonsault off the top rope. They will start the match against Bayley & Sasha Banks, who lost a similar match on Raw against Tamina & Nia Jax and the Riott Squad.

Randy Orton meanwhile will enter the Elimination Chamber for the WWE title last. A gauntlet match was held for much of SmackDown’s second hour, with Kofi Kingston (entering the match after Mustafa Ali was pulled due to injury) outlasting four other men for nearly the entire duration of the match before tapping out to AJ Styles’ calf crusher. As Styles was anticipating Orton to enter the arena through the entrance, Orton instead snuck up from behind and planted Styles with the RKO, pinning him to win the match.

The Elimination Chamber PPV will be held this Sunday at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville added to Women’s Tag Team title match

The first SmackDown team have entered themselves into the Elimination Chamber match that will crown the first WWE Women’s tag team champions.

On tonight’s episode, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville were being interviewed when they declared themselves as a part of the Elimination Chamber, promising that they would become the first champions. This was starkly different compared to last night’s Raw where teams faced off against one another to get the opportunity to enter the Chamber.

Those matches on Raw had Nia Jax and Tamina defeat Alexa Bliss and Mickie James, while Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan defeated the makeshift team of Natalya and Dana Brooke. The third Raw spot will be decided next week when Bayley and Sasha Banks team up to take on the team of Alicia Fox and Nikki Cross.

These will be the first women’s tag team titles in the company since 1989, when the previous titles were abandoned.

Naomi vs. Mandy Rose added to WWE SmackDown

The lineup for SmackDown’s Royal Rumble go-home show has already largely come into focus.

Naomi vs. Mandy Rose is the latest match to be announced for Tuesday’s SmackDown. Their storyline has been building over the last several weeks, with Rose playing mind games with Naomi by trying to seduce Jimmy Uso.

Last week’s SmackDown featured an angle where Rose gave Uso a key to her hotel room. Uso showed up and told Rose they can’t do this and it needs to stop. A photographer appeared and took pictures of Uso and Rose. It was revealed that Rose was just trying to destroy Naomi’s life by pretending to be interested in her husband, but Uso then left the room and sent Naomi in. Naomi and Rose brawled to end the segment.

Tuesday’s SmackDown is taking place at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas. Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade in a two-out-of-three falls match, Samoa Joe vs. Mustafa Ali, and Vince McMahon moderating a face-to-face segment with WWE Champion Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles have also been announced for the show.

Bryan will defend his WWE title against Styles at the Royal Rumble next Sunday (January 27).

WWE confirms three more Royal Rumble entrants

Three more entrants have been confirmed for this year’s Royal Rumble matches.

Jeff Hardy cut a backstage promo at Saturday night’s SmackDown house show in Greensboro, North Carolina, officially entering the men’s Royal Rumble. Seth Rollins and Finn Balor were confirmed for the men’s Rumble match earlier this weekend.

WWE also posted video of a promo from Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville backstage at the Greensboro show. It was announced that both Rose and Deville will be in the women’s Royal Rumble match.

Royal Rumble 2019 is taking place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on January 27. Here’s the updated list of entrants for both Royal Rumble matches:

Mandy Rose joins SmackDown team for WWE Survivor Series

With one spot left going into Survivor Series, the final member of SmackDown’s women’s division team for tonight’s pay-per-view was revealed on the pre-show.

A backstage segment officially confirmed that Mandy Rose will be on SmackDown’s team, with her joining Naomi, Asuka, Carmella & Sonya Deville. Naomi was also revealed as the team captain before announcing Rose for the final spot.

Charlotte Flair was originally set for Team SmackDown, but she’s facing Ronda Rousey tonight due to Becky Lynch being out of the match due to injury.

When SmackDown’s women’s team was revealed earlier this month, there was a storyline where Rose came out instead of Charlotte and cut a promo asking why she wasn’t chosen. She insulted everyone and brawled with Naomi. After being announced for the team tonight, Rose mentioned being a little too truthful during that segment.

Nia Jax, Tamina, Mickie James, Natalya & Ruby Riott are on Team Raw. Alexa Bliss is the captain for the team. There was also an angle on the Survivor Series pre-show where Bliss threatened to replace Natalya and Riott if they couldn’t get along.

Two more matches announced for WWE SmackDown

Two more matches have been announced for this week’s episode of SmackDown.

In a rematch from last Tuesday, AJ Styles & Daniel Bryan will team against The Usos. The Usos won their first meeting when Bryan accidentally hit Styles and Jimmy & Jey gave Bryan a double superkick.

Bryan challenging for Styles’ WWE Championship is set for Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 2.

After it was set up on Twitter, Naomi vs. Mandy Rose will also take place on this week’s SmackDown. Both Naomi and Rose will be entrants in the battle royal at Sunday’s Evolution pay-per-view.

Ahead of their last woman standing match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Evolution, WWE will follow up on an angle where Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair got into a physical altercation at the Performance Center over the weekend.

This week’s SmackDown is taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Rusev vs. Aiden English and Rey Mysterio appearing on Miz TV are also scheduled for the episode.

Four more wrestlers join WWE SmackDown

More wrestlers are heading to SmackDown via the Superstar Shakeup.

Samoa Joe made his presence felt immediately on SmackDown, destroying Sin Cara and choking him out with the coquina clutch. He cut a promo after the match, running down the top stars of SmackDown and also reassured Roman Reigns that he was coming after him at Backlash.

It was also announced tonight that Absolution, the team of Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, will be going to Smackdown. They will be joining Paige, who retired last week on Raw and became General Manager the following night on SmackDown, replacing Daniel Bryan.

Rose and Deville made their debut on the main roster last November alongside a returning Paige, who made her return following neck surgery. The trio worked together until late 2017, when Paige was injured again. She had been managing Rose and Deville until the split.

Big Cass also made his return, confronting Daniel Bryan and dismissing him over his size. He had been out with a torn ACL since last August.

Jeff Hardy and The Miz have also been announced as the latest stars joining the blue brand.

Six-woman tag match announced for WWE Raw

All six participants in the upcoming women’s Elimination Chamber match will square off on Raw tomorrow.

WWE revealed today that the team of Mickie James, Sasha Banks & Bayley will square off against Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, Sonya Deville & Mandy Rose in a six-woman tag team match. The recent storyline heading into the women’s Elimination Chamber has been that Bliss is trying to forge a relationship with James, though what her motives are remains unclear.

Also set for Monday is a gauntlet match featuring all seven participants in the men’s Elimination Chamber. The show will also likely set up the rest of the card for next Sunday’s pay-per-view. Aside from the two Elimination Chambers, the only other match announced is Asuka vs. Nia Jax. Ronda Rousey will be at the PPV for a contract signing, as she’ll be a part of the Raw brand moving forward.

Monday’s Raw will be at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.

WWE Main Event results: Curt Hawkins goes 0-171

The Big Takeaway: Curt Hawkins’ losing streak continued with a loss against Goldust, who was managed by Mandy Rose.

Kalisto defeated Ariya Daivari in a longer than usual cruiserweight offering that left Daivari without a win since August.

**********

Goldust (w/ Mandy Rose) defeated Curt Hawkins (3:40)

Hawkins’ never-ending losing streak continued here with another loss to Goldust, whose partnership with Mandy Rose has given him a new lease of life. After a lot of comedy early on, Hawkins took control when he waffled Goldust on the apron to send him outside. He followed him and nailed him with a stiff clothesline and they teased a count out finish. Goldust rolled back into the ring at 9.75.

Hawkins took over the match, slowing things down with a rear chinlock until Goldust got some separation with a spinebuster. He got the heat with clotheslines, a running bulldog, and a scoop slam. Hawkins wriggled out of the first attempt, but Goldust kicked him in the gut and hit the Final Cut for the win.

The loss took Hawkins to 0-171 but was a good win for Goldust in preparation for his Mixed Match Challenge bout with Mandy Rose against Jimmy Uso & Naomi on Tuesday night.

Kalisto defeated Ariya Daivari (7:31)

Speaking of losing streaks, Daivari currently finds himself on one of his own. Without a win since August in all competitions, the loss here to Kalisto took him to 0-28.

Daivari disrespected Kalisto early on but soon looked the fool. After mocking Kalisto’s “lucha” chant and even laying across the top turnbuckle, Kalisto hit him with a kick to the side of the head and then shot at him with a suicide dive outside.

After the break, the pace had slowed with Daivari using his heel moveset to keep Kalisto from using his speed and agility. This led to a near fall when Daivari absolutely nailed Kalisto with a spinebuster, but Kalisto just managed to get his shoulder up. Daivari tried to pull off Kalisto’s mask, but it didn’t lead anywhere.

Having put up a good fight and putting on a decent match, Kalisto finished Daivari off by planting him with a rana and the Salida del Sol for the win.

Women’s Elimination Chamber lineup set, Asuka to face Nia Jax

Alexa Bliss’ Elimination Chamber challengers were confirmed on Raw tonight, plus another match was made official for the pay-per-view.

Kurt Angle announced that Sasha Banks, Bayley, Mickie James, Mandy Rose, and Sonya Deville would be challenging for Bliss’ Raw Women’s Championship in the Elimination Chamber. He noted that Nia Jax wasn’t included in that list, then revealed that Jax would be facing Asuka at the PPV.

If Jax wins, she’ll be added to the Raw Women’s title match at WrestleMania. Asuka hasn’t indicated whether she’ll be challenging the Raw or SmackDown Women’s Champion in New Orleans, with the storyline being that she can choose which one she’ll be facing.

During Angle’s announcement, Bliss accused him of being sexist for making her defend her title at the PPV when Brock Lesnar doesn’t have to. Angle responded by pointing out that Bliss hasn’t had a title defense since October and asked the audience if they wanted to see the women’s Chamber match.

Braun Strowman, Elias, John Cena, Roman Reigns, and The Miz have qualified for the men’s Elimination Chamber, with one more spot remaining. That match will decide who challenges Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania.

Elimination Chamber 2018 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on February 25th. Those three matches are all that’s been announced so far.

Mandy Rose replacing Alicia Fox in WWE Mixed Match Challenge

After Alicia Fox was pulled from the tournament due to injury, Goldust will be teaming with Mandy Rose in Mixed Match Challenge.

That announcement was made towards the end of last night’s episode. Goldust & Rose will be taking on Jimmy Uso & Naomi next Tuesday, and the winning team will go on to face Braun Strowman & Alexa Bliss in week eight of the tournament.

Strowman & Bliss defeated Sami Zayn & Becky Lynch this week when Bliss jumped off Strowman’s shoulders and hit Twisted Bliss on Lynch.

WWE announced on Sunday night that Fox wouldn’t be competing in either the women’s Royal Rumble or Mixed Match Challenge because of an injury, which was revealed to be a broken tailbone.

Finn Balor & Sasha Banks, The Miz & Asuka, and Strowman & Bliss are the teams that have advanced in Mixed Match Challenge thus far. Goldust & Rose vs. Uso & Naomi, Elias & Bayley vs. Rusev & Lana, and Apollo Crews & Nia Jax vs. Bobby Roode & Charlotte Flair are the remaining first round matchups.

Six-woman tag match, Rollins vs. Cesaro set for WWE Raw tonight

After Paige returned and Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville debuted on Raw last week, the three are set to team together in a six-woman tag match tonight.

WWE announced this afternoon that Paige, Rose & Deville would be facing Sasha Banks, Bayley & Mickie James on the show. Paige, Deville, and Rose arrived as a unit last Monday, interrupting a fatal four-way number one contender’s match between Banks, Bayley, James, and Alicia Fox and later attacking Alexa Bliss in a backstage segment.

Tonight will be the first time Paige has wrestled in over a year. Also set for Raw is a match between Seth Rollins and Cesaro as WWE continues to build to Rollins & Dean Ambrose getting their tag title rematch. Rollins and Cesaro faced each other on this weekend’s house shows as well.

In his first appearance on television since he won the Intercontinental Championship, WWE is teasing that Roman Reigns will issue an open challenge tonight.

Paige returns, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose debut on WWE Raw

Paige returned to WWE television on tonight’s episode of Raw, bringing two wrestlers from NXT with her.

A fatal four-way number one contender’s match between Mickie James, Bayley, Sasha Banks, and Alicia Fox was going on when Paige’s music hit. She asked the crowd if they missed her and then announced that she’s back. She told everyone that she didn’t come alone and headed down to the ring, with Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose running in from behind and attacking the wrestlers in the match.

Bayley tried to fight back, but Paige came in and gave her a kick. The segment ended with Paige giving Bayley the RamPaige.

The three later laid out Alexa Bliss backstage.

While she was rumored to return on last week’s Survivor Series go-home show, this was Paige’s first appearance on TV in over a year. She has been at the Performance Center recently as she prepared to come back from a neck injury. She was also suspended twice for wellness policy violations while out injured in 2016.

Deville and Rose were part of the most recent season of Tough Enough in 2015 and were making their main roster debuts tonight. They’ve been regulars on the NXT house show circuit, with Deville being featured on TV more often in recent months.
