Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) & El Hijo del Vikingo defeated Powerhouse Hobbs, QT Marshall & Aaron Solo
TBS Champion Jade Cargill defeated Gia Scott
Mark Briscoe defeated Preston Vance. Briscoe was joined by family members in the ring after the match and cut a promo recognizing the late Jay Briscoe for the live crowd.
Friday’s show will also feature the cinematic Firm Deletion match featuring The Hardys, Hook & Isiah Kassidy against Stokely Hathaway, Ethan Page, Lee Moriarty & Big Bill.
AEW also held two dark matches before the show as Dark: Elevation is no longer and there are two sessions of Ring of Honor TV tapings scheduled for this weekend in Orlando.
Skye Blue defeated Adena Steele
Best Friends (Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor) & Rocky Romero defeated Angelico, Serpentico & Nick Comoroto
The Lucha Brothers and El Hijo del Vikingo will be in trios action on this Friday’s early edition of AEW Rampage.
The three stars will take on Powerhouse Hobbs, QT Marshall and Aaron Solo after the events of Wednesday’s trios battle royale where Hobbs eliminated Rey Fenix, Penta El Zero Miedo and Vikingo after Fenix and Penta eliminated Marshall and Solo.
Fenix and Penta have had their issues with Marshall and Hobbs over the last month with the then-TNT Champion defeating both in singles action with Marshall attacking their manager Alex Abrahantes afterward.
After defending against Taya Valkyrie last Wednesday, TBS Champion Jade Cargill will be in action against an opponent to be named as she looks to keep her undefeated record alive.
The new additions join the previously announced Firm Deletion cinematic match at the Hardy Compound that will see The Hardys, Hook and Isiah Kassidy take on Stokely Hathaway, Ethan Page, Big Bill and Lee Moriarty.
Mark Briscoe will return to singles action against Preston Vance.
The show will air at 6:30 PM Eastern due to the NHL playoffs.
Here’s the full card:
The Firm Deletion: Matt & Jeff Hardy, Hook, Isiah Kassidy vs. Ethan Page, Stokely Hathaway Big Bill & Lee Moriarty
Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix) & El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Powerhouse Hobbs, QT Marshall & Aaron Solo
AEW roster member and Ring of Honor Tag Team Champion Rey Fenix is taking some time off to heal up from injuries.
Dave Meltzer reported the news in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, saying Fenix is “banged up.” No timeframe for his return, nor the specific ailments, was mentioned.
Fenix’s hiatus began following the Lucha Brothers’ successful title defense against Powerhouse Hobbs & QT Marshall at this month’s AEW Battle of the Belts IV.
The Meltzer news was a confirmation of a PWInsider report last week which stated that Fenix appeared to be hurt following the match. He did not appear at AAA Triplemania last weekend either. It’s unclear if an injury was suffered during the match or if he went into it already hurting.
Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo won the ROH Tag Team titles nearly a month ago at ROH Supercard of Honor in a multi-team ladder match.
Three title matches will make up tonight’s live edition of AEW Battle of the Belts IV from Kingston, Rhode Island.
New Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers will defend their titles for the first time as they face TNT Champion Powerhouse Hobbs & QT Marshall. The two won the titles at last Friday’s Supercard of Honor.
Hobbs picked up title defenses over Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix in recent weeks with Marshall assaulting Alex Abrahantes both times.
AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy will look to continue his successful run of title defenses as he faces Dralistico. If he wins tonight, it will be number 17.
After her face-to-face sit-down with Taya Valkyrie on Rampage, TBS Champion Jade Cargill will defend against Billie Starkz. With a win, Cargill will remain undefeated in her two-year career and enjoy her 21st title defense. Starkz will be looking for her first AEW win (0-6).
**********
AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy defeated Dralistico to retain
Dralistico was joined ringside by his brother, Rush, and others. Cassidy appeared with Best Friends at his side.
It took a few moments, but they broke into fast action until OC took a break to cool off on the floor. Cassidy walked the ropes and did an arm drag with one hand in his pocket.
Everyone who came to the ring with both Dralistico and OC, they all ended up brawling with each other to the back because Jose shoved Cassidy off the top rope at one point. It was down to one on one action between Dralistico and Cassidy. The program cut to a short commercial break from here.
When they were back from break, we saw OC hit Dralistico with cross body press and a Michinoku Driver II for two. The crowd started chanting for Cassidy a bit later. Jose was still at ringside, by the way. Dralistico used a springboard codebreaker on Cassidy for two.
OC reversed a suplex into jawbreaker to tip the match in his favor. The two would start fighting on the top ropes next. Dralistico nailed Cassidy with a big headbutt before taking him down with a wild hurracanrana from one rope to the other, launching Cassidy into the ring. He’d lock OC in La Mistica but couldn’t get Cassidy to tap. The crowd chanted more for Cassidy. Cassidy went for the Beach Break but Dralistico reversed it into a Canadian Destroyer for two.
On the floor, Cassidy did the Orange Punch to take out Jose. He’d do the same to Dralistico in the ring moments later, cracking him with a loud Orange Punch that laid Dralistico out for the win. Cassidy retains.
Malaki Black appeared on screen afterwards. He said he thought Cassidy quite talented, but he could tell that losing to House was eating him alive. He said that was good, because the House of Black wasn’t done with him just yet. Buddy Murphy appeared and said that if they put their titles on the line, why doesn’t Cassidy put his title on the line in a match.
A promo package for Jay White aired next. It covered what happened between him and Ricky Starks on the latest episode of Dynamite.
Mark Briscoe backstage interview
Briscoe was asked about his match last week and he said that he wouldn’t be looking to the past but looking forward from now. Jay Lethal then appeared from off screen. He talked with Briscoe about how long they’ve known each other and how connected they’ve been over the years, so Lethal invited Briscoe to join up with him. It sounded like a good deal to Briscoe, so he shook on it with Lethal.
Then, suddenly, Sonjay Dutt, Jeff Jarret and Singh appeared alongside Lethal. They were happy about Briscoe joining them, but it seemed like Briscoe didn’t realize that was going to happen. Lethal used a bait-and-switch technique: Lethal presented the “team” as just he and Briscoe, not Lethal’s entire enterprise. To be continued.
TBS Champion Jade Cargill defeated Billie Starkz to retain
Starkz is just 18 years old, has been wrestling for four years but is also an honor roll student in high school. She wrestled Yuka Sakazaki last year at Korakuen Hall for Tokyo Joshi Pro.
Cargill did not seem impressed with Starkz and got in her face early on. Starkz wouldn’t back down. Cargill took charge and at one point bent Starkz over her knee and spanked her. The champion worked Starkz over as the show cut to commercials.
When the show came back, the crowd was chanting for Starkz as Cargill held her in a headlock. When Cargill went for Jaded, Starkz got up on her shoulders and turned around to do a frankensteiner. She’d then knock Cargill off the apron with a running boot.
Later, back in the ring, Starkz unloaded more offense on Cargill, including a flatliner for two. She went for a swanton bomb off the top but Cargill put her knees up. There was a bit of miscommunication on one of the final spots, but Cargill would clean it up and put Starkz away with Jaded for the win. Cargill retains.
Taya Valkyrie appeared after the match and went for Road to Valhalla (or Cargill’s Jaded), but Cargill escaped and rolled to the floor. Valkyrie taunted Cargill and co. from the ring as the opposite crew went to the back.
Michael Nakazawa & Brandon Cutler segment
Cutler posed a question: What do you do when the people who stood up for bullies aren’t there to stand up for you anymore? He said they have to stand up and be elite. Michael Nakazawa just said “No more!”
******
When the show returned from commercial break, The Lucha Bros. and QT Marshall & Will Hobbes spoke with Mark Henry ahead of the match. Pentagon said the Lucha Bros were the best tag team in the world.
ROH’s Bobby Cruise came out to make formal introductions for this Ring of Honor-sanctioned title match.
ROH Tag Team Champions Lucha Bros. defeated Powerhouse Hobbs & QT Marshall
ROH’s Caprice Coleman joined the AEW commentary team for this match.
Fans chanted for Pentagon before action got underway. Penta did CIERO MIEDO in Marshall’s face a few times. The crowd chanted “Q-T SUCKS!” They sounded like they enjoyed booing him. The two had another wobbly exchange before Marshall tagged out to Hobbes, who quickly ate a foot in the face from Rey Fenix on the opposite side of the ring. When Hobbs went for a lariat, he missed and decked Marshall, knocking him to the floor. Fenix caught him with a suicide somersault senton through the ropes.
The crowd got behind the Lucha Bros. later in this, as Hobbs and Marshall took the upper hand and put the boots to Fenix. More chants of “Q-T SUCKS!” broke out.
Fenix nailed Marshall with a super kick and tagged out. Penta and Hobbs traded chops. Marshall and Hobbs then took Penta out with a double shoulder block before the match went to commercials.
Marshall and Hobbs were in control until the commercial break was over. Penta hit an enzuigiri kick but Marshall got involved and neutralized Penta for a moment. Later, Penta laid Marshall out with a sling blade before putting Hobbs down with a backstabber before finally tagging out to Fenix.
Fenix came in and cleaned house. Huge rolling savate kick in the corner before an assisted springboard hurracanrana. He and Penta worked in some double-team offense to try and put Marshall away. Fenix landed a splash onto Marshall but Hobbs broke up the count.
Marshall did a handspring kick and would later take Penta out with a Diamond Cutter. Fenix reappeared with a Code Red. Everyone was sold like they were KO’d for a few moments.
Penta and Hobbs got into it when the guys were back to their feet. They traded hard shots. The Lucha Bros would gang up on Hobbs and take him down before a super-assisted splash on Hobbs and a Canadian Destroyer on Marshall. Fenix only earned a two-count. Hobbs powered up and took the Lucha Bros out with huge lariats.
Fenix rebounded and caught Marshall with a ricochet kick to take Marshall out. The QTV people started jumping up and down, and took Alex Abrahantes out on the floor. Marshall misted Fenix and pinned him with his foot on the ropes but Fenix counted out again. He’d finally score the win with a hurracanrana on Marshall for the win. The Lucha Bros. retain their titles.
The Lucha Brothers are new Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions after winning the five-way Reach for the Sky ladder match for the vacant titles at Friday’s Supercard of Honor.
Rey Fenix finished off the wild affair by first kicking The Kingdom’s Mike Bennett off the ladder, followed by kicking Matt Taven onto a ladder bridge, grabbing the new title belts for the victory.
It’s the first ROH gold for the former AEW and AAA Tag Team Champions.
After the match, former ROH Tag Team Champions FTR and Mark Briscoe came out to embrace the new champions. The Briscoes were the last titleholders until the shocking death of Jay Briscoe earlier this year in a car accident.
Top Flight’s Dante Martin was stretchered out after the match as he appeared to suffer a severe foot/ankle injury following a Canadian destroyer spot off a ladder bridge through stacked tables near the end of the bout. The initial camera angle showed his foot was nearly turned around backward.
As expected, the match was full of wild spots as action spilled all over the arena. Both Bennett and Taven were bleeding from taking piledrivers on the stage from Aussie Open.
All teams had their moments throughout the match including an Alabama Slam into a flip on the ladder by Aussie Open on Martin, a Taven splash on Dralistico on a ladder bridge on the outside of the ring that broke the ladder, and a scary Rush overhead throw on Aussie Open’s Mark Davis onto the ladder on the outside of the ring.
It’s Monday night and you know what that means: an episode of AEW Dark: Elevation taped last week at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA, with the wonderful Paul Wight and Matt Menard on the call.
Emi Sakura defeated Zyra
Sakura started the match with a surfboard submission. The queen continued with chops and slaps when Zyra avoided one and countered into a DDT. But, Sakura got back up and used part of her outfit to whip Zyra. After that, she went up to the top, proclaimed herself “your highness,” and hit a moonsault for the win.
Jake Hager (w/ Angelo Parker) defeated Levi Shapiro
I used to think Michael Cole used to be biased toward heels back in the early 2010s when he was doing that weird gimmick in a glass box. But this commentary job had the epitome of bias with Hager’s JAS teammate on the call.
Hager got started by taking off the hat that he loves so dearly. He hit Shapiro with hard right hands in the corner and started yelling at him to quit. When Shapiro tried to fight out, Hager took him down and locked in the triangle choke for the win.
Marina Shafir defeated Mighty Mayra
Shafir made her way out to ringside where she sat down on the ring steps and took off her shoes and socks. She actually threw her socks out into the crowd and Wight commented, “I bet someone in the crowd really appreciates that” to which Menard replied, “A real pervert I bet!” Hilarious.
Shafir let Mayra put her in a headlock who tried to turn it into a crucifix, but Shafir just threw her around like a ragdoll. A judo throw was followed by some shadowboxing and the crowd chanted “put some shoes on.” Mayra tried to get the crowd behind her and get back into it, but Shafir lifted her up onto her shoulders and started squeezing until she tapped.
Brian Cage (w/ Prince Nana) defeated Jack Cartwheel
GCW and AAA regular Cartwheel was making his Dark Elevation debut here and looked absolutely fantastic in doing so. After he did some, you guessed it, cartwheels, Cage used his power to turn the match around. He slammed Cartwheel onto the apron and chopped him on the outside. Back in the ring, Cage used him to do some curls. Cartwheel, though, avoided a few clotheslines and swept Cage’s legs with a really impressive move you would only see on American Ninja Warrior.
Cartwheel went straight to the top for a senton, but Cage caught him and planted him for a near fall. When Cage went for the Drill Claw, Cartwheel flipped out and went for the surprise pin but Cage kicked out. Cartwheel went to the top again for a shooting star press, but Cage moved out of the way and locked in his new submission for the win to end an awesome match.
The Butcher & The Blade defeated Midas Kreed & Vinnie Massaro
Massaro started with Blade, who was absolutely brutal in this match. When Massaro had to fight out of some chops to get Kreed in the match, he suffered the same fate. Butcher dropped a leg that would make Terry Bollea sweat. After some more domination, Butcher and Blade hit Kreed with the Full Death to get the quick win.
ROH Women’s Champion Athena defeated Inder Mundi in a Proving Ground match
This was another ROH-style title eliminator match where if Mundi beat Athena or lasted long enough for a draw, she earned a future title shot.
Mundi tried to get it done quickly with a roll-up, but Athena kicked out, fought into the corner, and destroyed Mundi with a right hand. Athena started to question if her competition is the best she could get.
The ROH Women’s champion started hitting repeated clotheslines in each corner and finished it with double knees. Athena then caught Mundi off the ropes for a spinning back suplex and a choke for the win. After the match, Athena laid down her belt like usual and drove poor Mundi’s head face-first into it. There was no help for the aggrieved this week.
Best Friends defeated Olumide & Starboy Charlie
I loved this match. Not only is Charlie another GCW regular but, no offense to Danhausen or Orange Cassidy, I love the classic Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta tag team.
The crowd was chanting for Best Friends when the bell rang. Beretta started with Olumide who was absurdly athletic. He countered an Irish whip and hit a dropkick by jumping an estimated 50 feet in the air both times. Charlie, wearing nothing but boots and overalls, got the tag and immediately took off the overalls. Taylor came in and did the same thing. Olumide tried to help his teammate, but Best Friends double-teamed both guys until Olumide recovered and knocked Taylor off the ropes.
Charlie hit Beretta with a sunset flip for a near fall, but their offense didn’t last long as Best Friends threw the two into each other and hit them both with piledrivers for the win. A second hug followed the bell.
Lucha Brothers (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated The Wingmen
The Wingmen have a very underrated theme song with “The Walk of Fame.” Awesome song, but not many beat the Lucha Brothers’ “Zero Miedo.”
The featured match started with Rey Fenix and “Pretty” Peter Avalon. For some reason, Avalon called for Penta to tag in, but right when he did, he turned around and let Ryan Nemeth take over. Penta called Avalon a word I can’t repeat here and Nemeth tagged him right back in. Avalon actually got the better of Penta while Nemeth attacked Fenix on the outside. When they went to double-team Penta, he destroyed each with a superkick and a sling blade, respectfully.
This match started going a million miles a minute. Fenix and Penta hit both Wingmen with more superkicks and tried pinning them both, but they kicked at two. Each team got outsmarted at every turn, but I don’t know if I would use the word “smart” when I refer to The Wingmen.
While Nemeth was holding up Fenix for a move, Penta tripped Avalon and drove his crotch into the ring post that led to Avalon letting out a scream that only he could. This helped set up an insane double stunner by the Lucha Brothers to win the match.
It’s Monday night and you know what that means: AEW Dark: Elevation taped last Wednesday in Laredo, Texas, with Paul Wight and Matt Menard on commentary.
Juice Robinson defeated Fuego Del Sol (6:07)
Whatever happened to Fuego Dos? Del Sol was all fired up early on and got a bunch of near falls. He went for a tornado DDT, but Robinson tossed him to the mat and cut him down to size with a back elbow. Robinson hit a flapjack, a side Russian leg sweep and a standing frog splash for a near fall.
Robinson tried to pull off Del Sol’s mask, which fired him up. He caught Robinson with an enziguri and an Asai moonsault on the floor. Robinson countered a second DDT attempt by overpowering Del Sol and dropping him stomach-first on the top rope. Robinson pulled at the mask again and hit a cannonball in the corner.
Robinson went for the Left Hand of God, but Del Sol countered with a cradle. Robinson finally yanked the mask off, hit the Left Hand and then a DDT for the pin. This was a fun squash for Robinson who needs more real TV time.
ROH Women’s Champion Athena defeated Evelyn Carter in a title eliminator match (2:53)
Carter caught Athena with a forearm on the floor and Athena proceeded to beat her around the ringside area. Back in the ring, Carter tried a couple of quick covers and then got chokeslammed. Athena locked in a crossface for the quick tap out. She superkicked Carter after the match and then smashed her face against the title belt. This was a dominant performance from the champion.
Lee Moriarty & Big Bill (w/ Stokely Hathaway) defeated Zack Zilla & Warren Johnson (5:32)
Zilla and Johnson used a couple of double teams on Moriarty until Bill got the tag. He sent Johnson out of the ring with a big boot and tossed Zilla across the ring with a fallaway slam. Zilla fought out of a front facelock and got the tag to Johnson. They mounted a brief comeback, but Bill and Moriarty finished off Zilla with a full nelson slam/sit-down power bomb double team.
Moriarty and Bill move on to a match with The Acclaimed on Wednesday.
Rose locked Rayne in a dragon sleeper and scratched at her stomach. Later, Sakura chopped Rayne in the corner and hit a body block. Shafir then got her opportunity and choked Rayne in the ropes, followed by her distracting the ref so Guerrero could do the same.
This brought Blue over to break up the cheating with a superkick Rose. Nightingale got the tag and hit an enziguri on Shafir followed by a cannonball in the corner on Sakura. Nightingale hit a spinebuster on Shafir for a near fall. Rose and Shafir later hit a DDT on Nightingale and Rose went to cover, but Bates was the legal woman in the match. So, Rose grabbed Bates and gave her the Beast Bomb for the pinfall. Man, Nightingale’s stock has fallen quickly. She can’t even win on Elevation.
Blue will face Saraya on Wednesday.
Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Sal Muscat (1:36)
Hobbs is another act who should be getting real TV time. Muscat hit an enziguri and Hobbs shook it off, planting Muscat in the mat with a spinebuster. Hobbs hit his version of the burning hammer for the pinfall.
Dark Order (Evil Uno, John Silver & Alex Reynolds) and Best Friends defeated The Firm (Matt Hardy, Isaiah Kassidy & Ethan Page) and The Butcher & The Blade (w/ Stokely Hathaway) (8:48)
I think all of these teams are somehow involved in the tag team battle royal on Wednesday, including some pairing of Hardy, Kassidy and Page. The Butcher took Silver and Reynolds down with a double clothesline and soon everyone was brawling in the ring. Kassidy tried to charge in and Uno floored him, followed by him putting him in a reverse chinlock so Best Friends and Silver and Reynolds could give the people what they want.
Page worked over Uno in the corner while the crowd chanted “We want Hardy.” Hardy got the tag and led the crowd in a “Delete!” chant while ramming Uno’s head into the turnbuckle pads. Kassidy got the tag and hit Poetry in Motion with Hardy for a near fall. Kassidy hit a slingshot senton and Page called for a double headbutt on Uno with Butcher, which hurt his own head. “That was stupid!” Page delivered an impressive delayed vertical suplex on Uno who later came back with a hangman’s neckbreaker.
Kassidy and Chuck Taylor got the hot tags, and Taylor backdropped Kassidy. Beretta came in and they combined for the Soul Food/Half and Half combo on Kassidy. Soon, all the teams were brawling again and Kassidy caught Beretta with a swanton bomb for two. Page went for the Twist of Fate on Uno, but Uno countered and delivered his own.
Butcher and Blade pulled Uno out to the floor and gave him the Drag the Lake. Reynolds and Silver caught Butcher and Blade with a pair of dives, and Kassidy took Silver and Reynolds out with his own dive.
Back in the ring, Kassidy went for a Twist of Fate on Beretta, but Beretta shoved Kassidy into Hardy, who crashed into the barricade, and then hit Kassidy with a superkick. Kassidy went to tag Page, but Page dropped to the floor to check on Hardy. This left Kassidy to fall victim to Strong Zero from Beretta and Taylor, giving Team Dark Order and Best Friends the win.
Lucha Brothers (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated Tony Nese & Ari Daivari (w/ Mark Sterling) (6:40)
Tony Schiavone replaced Paul Wight on commentary with the story that Mark Sterling had Wight barred.
To no surprise, the Lucha Brothers were incredibly over with the Laredo crowd.
Penta and Nese started out. Penta tried a handshake, but Nese responded by shoving his biceps in Penta’s face. Sterling unsuccessfully tried to interfere when Penta tossed his glove to Abrahantes. Daviari got Penta with a shot from behind and then Nese hit Penta with an elbow. Nese and Daivari tried a double-team, but Fenx broke it up. The fight went to the floor where Daivari whipped Penta into the barricade and took control.
Back in the ring, Daviari tried to take off Penta’s mask and wound up eating a superkick. Nese got the tag and knocked Fenix off the apron. Penta caught Daivari with a superkick and Nese with a sling blade, and then finally got the tag to Fenix.
Fenix got a near fall on Daivari after a cutter. Sterling broke up an attempt at the Fear Factor, and Daviari got a near fall with a rollup. Fenix and Penta hit superkicks on both guys, and Sterling came in and got superkicked as well. The Lucha Brothers then hit Nese with the Fear Factor to get the pinfall.
The Lucha Brothers will return to tag team action on Monday’s AEW Dark: Elevation.
Due to what is believed to be visa issues, Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix (and PAC) have been gone since losing in the seventh match of best-of-seven series against The Elite for the AEW Trios titles in early-January.
The two did return on this past week’s Dynamite for a run-in. Monday’s match against Ari Daivari & Tony Nese will mark their first traditional tag team match in AEW since last October’s AEW Dark match in Toronto, Canada.
The show will also feature a ten-match tag team match as Dark Order & Best Friends unite to battle The Firm.
Here’s a look at the full lineup taped last Wednesday in Laredo, Texas:
Dark Order (John Silver, Evil Uno and Alex Reynolds) & Best Friends vs. The Firm (Matt Hardy, Isiah Kassidy, Ethan page and The Butcher & The Blade)
ROH Women’s Champion Athena vs. Evelyn Carter in a non-title match
Juice Robinson vs. Fuego Del Sol
Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Sal Muscat
Nyla Rose, Marina Shafir & Emi Sakura vs. Leva Bates, Madison Rayne & Willow Nightingale
Lucha Brothers vs. Tony Nese & Ari Daivari
The Firm (Lee Moriarty & Big Bill) vs. Zack Villa & Warren Johnson
After some reported visa issues, the Lucha Brothers are set to return to action for AEW tonight.
The promotion announced that Rey Fenix & Penta El Zero Miedo will wrestle in Laredo Texas, but did not state it would be for Dynamite.
That means they will either appear on AEW Dark Elevation prior to the main show or on this week’s Rampage taped afterward.
On an edition of Wrestling Observer Radio last week, Dave Meltzer said working visas have been an issue throughout the wrestling industry which is why Mexican stars like Penta, Fenix and Bandido didn’t wrestle last week in El Paso, Texas.
The two have been out of action since they and PAC lost the seventh match in the best-of-seven series against The Elite on January 11th, dropping the AEW Trios titles in the process.
Bandido hasn’t appeared since his January 17th Dynamite loss to Bryan Danielson. His visa status is unknown.
A highly-anticipated match between The Briscoes and the Lucha Brothers that was set for next month’s Warrior Wrestling 25 has been disassembled following an intervention from AEW and ROH.
The promotion announced late-Tuesday night that “after consultation from our friends at ROH and AEW, we have agreed to alter our card for Warrior Wrestling 25.”
It was to be the first time ever the two teams had squared off. It came close to happening in March at a House of Glory show, but due to Rey Fenix’s injury at the time, Arez subbed in for him.
Both teams will remain on the October 2nd show in Chicago, Illinois. Penta El Zero Miedo & Fenix will now take on Brian Cage & Gringo Loco while Jay & Mark Briscoe will face The Rascalz (Myron Reed & Zachary Wentz).
As a make-good, Warrior Wrestling announced that AEW is “sending” Eddie Kingston to compete on the show against Calvin Tankmain in addition to appearing at their pre-show meet & greet.
Despite AAA advertising him for Saturday’s Rey de Reyes pay-per-view, Rey Fenix is still recovering from a dislocated arm and is not ready to return.
Fenix, now out of a sling, did appear at the beginning of the show as he and Penta El Zero Miedo introduced the returning Taya Valkyrie. He dislocated his arm in the Lucha Brothers’ AEW Tag Team title loss to Jurassic Express on January 5th.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said Fenix was hoping at the time of his injury that he would be ready for the show, but that he’s still a month away from returning. Meltzer took issue with AAA not being more up front that Fenix wouldn’t be competing given the anticipation for the match.
Instead of the advertised tag team match between the Lucha Brothers and Dragon Lee & Dralistico, it was a singles match between Penta and Dralistico instead. The two heels unmasked Penta in a post-match attack and taunted Fenix who was being held back due to his medical status. Lee said their match would still happen at some point.
FTR and The Lucha Brothers are scheduled to square off again for the AAA World Tag Team Championship.
FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler will defend the AAA titles against AEW World Tag Team Champions Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix. In a since-deleted tweet, Sam Adonis posted a promotional poster for a January 30, 2022 event with the title match listing. The match has since been confirmed by luchablog (thecubsfan) on Twitter as taking place on January 30 in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico at a AAA TV taping.
The rival teams are engaged in a lengthy series of matches revolving around both the AEW and AAA World Tag Team Championships, as FTR captured the AAA Tag titles from the Lucha Bros on the October 16 episode of AEW Dynamite. FTR successfully defended the titles against Penta and Fenix at Triplemania Regia in a ladder match on December 4. Penta and Fenix have twice defended the AEW Tag belts against FTR, with a victory at Full Gear in November, then a win on the December 10 Rampage, taped December 8.
FTR defending the AAA World Tag Team Championship against The Lucha Brothers was part of the full card unveiled for AAA TripleMania Regia on December 4. The lineup for the event was revealed at a press conference today.
FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler defeated The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) for the AAA Tag titles on the October 16 edition of AEW Dynamite. The two teams will also face off for the Lucha Brothers’ AEW World Tag Team Championship at the Full Gear pay-per-view this Saturday.
The mystery partner for Cain Velasquez’s AAA return match was also revealed, as LA Park will team with Rey Escorpion and Taurus against Velasquez, Psycho Clown and Pagano.
Already announced for the event, Kenny Omega will defend the AAA Mega Championship against El Hijo del Vikingo.

The Inner Circle will face American Top Team in a ten-man tag Minneapolis street fight. Sammy Guevara defeated ATT’s Ethan Page on Dynamite to retain the TNT Championship, retain his place in The Inner Circle, plus secure the match against ATT at Full Gear. Following Guevara’s win, Chris Jericho challenged ATT’s Dan Lambert to declare which members of ATT will compete in the match.
After weeks of being called out by MJF, Darby Allin responded on Dynamite. Allin and Sting attacked MJF and his The Pinnacle stablemates Shawn Spears and Wardlow. Allin said that it was time for him to make MJF pay physically at Full Gear.
Here is the Full Gear lineup so far:

In a match of the year candidate, the Lucha Brothers defeated the Young Bucks in a steel cage match for the AEW Tag Team titles at All Out Sunday.
The titles are the first for Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix as they become the fifth champions in company history following SCU, Kenny Omega and Hangman Page, FTR and the Young Bucks. They lost in the finals to SCU to be crowned the first-ever champions in November 2019. They earned Sunday’s opportunity by winning a four-team tournament.
The end came when Fenix jumped off the top of the cage with a crossbody onto Matt and Nick Jackson as Penta held both men, knocking everyone down. Fenix and Penta then hit their assisted piledriver finish to pick up the win.
As expected, the match featured wild spots, weapons and blood. At one point, Brandon Cutler threw in a bag that contained a sneaker that’s bottom was covered in thumbtacks. Jackson then threw superkicks with the sneaker before Penta and Fenix eventually got the sneaker and used it on both Bucks.
The win ends the Bucks’ 300-day run as champions. They won the titles from FTR at Full Gear in November 2020 and had nine successful title defenses before Sunday.
