AEW Battle of the Belts VI live results: ROH Tag Team title match

Three title matches will make up tonight’s live edition of AEW Battle of the Belts IV from Kingston, Rhode Island.

New Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers will defend their titles for the first time as they face TNT Champion Powerhouse Hobbs & QT Marshall. The two won the titles at last Friday’s Supercard of Honor.

Hobbs picked up title defenses over Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix in recent weeks with Marshall assaulting Alex Abrahantes both times.

AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy will look to continue his successful run of title defenses as he faces Dralistico. If he wins tonight, it will be number 17.

After her face-to-face sit-down with Taya Valkyrie on Rampage, TBS Champion Jade Cargill will defend against Billie Starkz. With a win, Cargill will remain undefeated in her two-year career and enjoy her 21st title defense. Starkz will be looking for her first AEW win (0-6).

AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy defeated Dralistico to retain

Dralistico was joined ringside by his brother, Rush, and others. Cassidy appeared with Best Friends at his side.

It took a few moments, but they broke into fast action until OC took a break to cool off on the floor. Cassidy walked the ropes and did an arm drag with one hand in his pocket.

Everyone who came to the ring with both Dralistico and OC, they all ended up brawling with each other to the back because Jose shoved Cassidy off the top rope at one point. It was down to one on one action between Dralistico and Cassidy. The program cut to a short commercial break from here.

When they were back from break, we saw OC hit Dralistico with cross body press and a Michinoku Driver II for two. The crowd started chanting for Cassidy a bit later. Jose was still at ringside, by the way. Dralistico used a springboard codebreaker on Cassidy for two.

OC reversed a suplex into jawbreaker to tip the match in his favor. The two would start fighting on the top ropes next. Dralistico nailed Cassidy with a big headbutt before taking him down with a wild hurracanrana from one rope to the other, launching Cassidy into the ring. He’d lock OC in La Mistica but couldn’t get Cassidy to tap. The crowd chanted more for Cassidy. Cassidy went for the Beach Break but Dralistico reversed it into a Canadian Destroyer for two.

On the floor, Cassidy did the Orange Punch to take out Jose. He’d do the same to Dralistico in the ring moments later, cracking him with a loud Orange Punch that laid Dralistico out for the win. Cassidy retains.

Malaki Black appeared on screen afterwards. He said he thought Cassidy quite talented, but he could tell that losing to House was eating him alive. He said that was good, because the House of Black wasn’t done with him just yet. Buddy Murphy appeared and said that if they put their titles on the line, why doesn’t Cassidy put his title on the line in a match.

A promo package for Jay White aired next. It covered what happened between him and Ricky Starks on the latest episode of Dynamite.

Mark Briscoe backstage interview

Briscoe was asked about his match last week and he said that he wouldn’t be looking to the past but looking forward from now. Jay Lethal then appeared from off screen. He talked with Briscoe about how long they’ve known each other and how connected they’ve been over the years, so Lethal invited Briscoe to join up with him. It sounded like a good deal to Briscoe, so he shook on it with Lethal.

Then, suddenly, Sonjay Dutt, Jeff Jarret and Singh appeared alongside Lethal. They were happy about Briscoe joining them, but it seemed like Briscoe didn’t realize that was going to happen. Lethal used a bait-and-switch technique: Lethal presented the “team” as just he and Briscoe, not Lethal’s entire enterprise. To be continued.

TBS Champion Jade Cargill defeated Billie Starkz to retain

Starkz is just 18 years old, has been wrestling for four years but is also an honor roll student in high school. She wrestled Yuka Sakazaki last year at Korakuen Hall for Tokyo Joshi Pro.

Cargill did not seem impressed with Starkz and got in her face early on. Starkz wouldn’t back down. Cargill took charge and at one point bent Starkz over her knee and spanked her. The champion worked Starkz over as the show cut to commercials.

When the show came back, the crowd was chanting for Starkz as Cargill held her in a headlock. When Cargill went for Jaded, Starkz got up on her shoulders and turned around to do a frankensteiner. She’d then knock Cargill off the apron with a running boot.

Later, back in the ring, Starkz unloaded more offense on Cargill, including a flatliner for two. She went for a swanton bomb off the top but Cargill put her knees up. There was a bit of miscommunication on one of the final spots, but Cargill would clean it up and put Starkz away with Jaded for the win. Cargill retains.

Taya Valkyrie appeared after the match and went for Road to Valhalla (or Cargill’s Jaded), but Cargill escaped and rolled to the floor. Valkyrie taunted Cargill and co. from the ring as the opposite crew went to the back.

Michael Nakazawa & Brandon Cutler segment

Cutler posed a question: What do you do when the people who stood up for bullies aren’t there to stand up for you anymore? He said they have to stand up and be elite. Michael Nakazawa just said “No more!”

******

When the show returned from commercial break, The Lucha Bros. and QT Marshall & Will Hobbes spoke with Mark Henry ahead of the match. Pentagon said the Lucha Bros were the best tag team in the world.

ROH’s Bobby Cruise came out to make formal introductions for this Ring of Honor-sanctioned title match.

ROH Tag Team Champions Lucha Bros. defeated Powerhouse Hobbs & QT Marshall

ROH’s Caprice Coleman joined the AEW commentary team for this match.

Fans chanted for Pentagon before action got underway. Penta did CIERO MIEDO in Marshall’s face a few times. The crowd chanted “Q-T SUCKS!” They sounded like they enjoyed booing him. The two had another wobbly exchange before Marshall tagged out to Hobbes, who quickly ate a foot in the face from Rey Fenix on the opposite side of the ring. When Hobbs went for a lariat, he missed and decked Marshall, knocking him to the floor. Fenix caught him with a suicide somersault senton through the ropes.

The crowd got behind the Lucha Bros. later in this, as Hobbs and Marshall took the upper hand and put the boots to Fenix. More chants of “Q-T SUCKS!” broke out.

Fenix nailed Marshall with a super kick and tagged out. Penta and Hobbs traded chops. Marshall and Hobbs then took Penta out with a double shoulder block before the match went to commercials.

Marshall and Hobbs were in control until the commercial break was over. Penta hit an enzuigiri kick but Marshall got involved and neutralized Penta for a moment. Later, Penta laid Marshall out with a sling blade before putting Hobbs down with a backstabber before finally tagging out to Fenix.

Fenix came in and cleaned house. Huge rolling savate kick in the corner before an assisted springboard hurracanrana. He and Penta worked in some double-team offense to try and put Marshall away. Fenix landed a splash onto Marshall but Hobbs broke up the count.

Marshall did a handspring kick and would later take Penta out with a Diamond Cutter. Fenix reappeared with a Code Red. Everyone was sold like they were KO’d for a few moments.

Penta and Hobbs got into it when the guys were back to their feet. They traded hard shots. The Lucha Bros would gang up on Hobbs and take him down before a super-assisted splash on Hobbs and a Canadian Destroyer on Marshall. Fenix only earned a two-count. Hobbs powered up and took the Lucha Bros out with huge lariats.

Fenix rebounded and caught Marshall with a ricochet kick to take Marshall out. The QTV people started jumping up and down, and took Alex Abrahantes out on the floor. Marshall misted Fenix and pinned him with his foot on the ropes but Fenix counted out again. He’d finally score the win with a hurracanrana on Marshall for the win. The Lucha Bros. retain their titles.

AEW Battle of the Belts IV live results: FTR vs. Gates of Agony

For the first time ever, AEW will air a Battle of the Belts special live after a Friday Rampage as the fourth iteration will feature three title matches.

FTR will defend the Ring of Honor Tag Team titles for the first time since July when they face the Gates of Agony. This will be FTR’s first traditional tag team match on an AEW TV show since late-May and Kaun & Toa Liona’s first shot at the titles.

TBS Champion Jade Cargill will attempt to remain undefeated in her career and as champion as she faces Willow Nightingale. This is the second opportunity Nightingale has received against Cargill with the first coming at June’s Road Rager edition of Dynamite.

Less than an hour after defending the Trios titles, PAC will look to defend his AEW All-Atlantic title for the sixth time as he takes on Trent Beretta. PAC recently defended against Beretta’s factionmate Orange Cassidy.

Still live! from Washington, DC.

Tony Schaivone, Excalibur, Jim Ross and Chris Jericho were on commentary.

PAC defeated Trent Beretta to retain the AEW All Atlantic Championship (14:22)

It doesn’t seem fair to PAC that Andrade sucker-punched Sammy Guevara and he’s the one who ended up working twice. Not that I’m compaining, since both matches were awesome.

Crowd felt deflated here early on, probably due to the lousy finish of the Rampage main event. That didn’t last, though. Beretta hit PAC with a plancha to the outside, then slammed him on the floor.

PAC and Beretta continued fighting on the floor. Beretta set up PAC on a table for a splash, but PAC rolled off the table. Beretta hit PAC with a dropkick. He went to the top, but PAC followed him up for a top rope superplex, and Breretta sold that he took the brunt of the impact on his neck. This seemed to get the crowd back into things.

After a split screen break, Beretta countered a charge from PAC with a stomp. Beretta chopped PAC, then hit a german suplex and a half-and-half suplex. Beretta hit a tornado DDT (that PAC sold beautifully) for a near fall. PAC tried to roll to the floor, but Beretta pulled him back into the ring. Beretta sent PAC headfirst into the turnbuckle and turned him inside out with a clothesline. Beretta was selling his bad neck, but yanked PAC out of the corner and into a piledriver for another nearfall. This really got the crowd into the match, chanting “This is awesome!”

Pac and Beretta went to the entrance ramp. Beretta set up a suplex, but PAC countered it and suplex Beretta off the ramp and through the table set up on the floor. Beretta took the brunt of the suplex on his nick, and PAC was cut open on his back and shoulder. PAC threw Beretta in the ring, then went for the Black Arrow, but Beretta got his knees up. Beretta went for a spear, but PAC got his knee up. Beretta got a quick small package for two.

PAC hit a back elbow and went to the top, but Beretta crotched him. Beretta hit PAC with a avalanche half-and-half suplex from the top rope for another near fall. The crowd was totally into this match now, chanting “AEW! AEW!”  Beretta tried to set up Crunchy (his half of the Strong Zero), but PAC countered with the Brutalizer. Beretta struggled and got to the ropes. PAC looked frustrated that he couldn’t put Beretta away while the crowd chanted “Fight Forever!”

PAC dropped to the floor and went for the ring bell hammer. Beretta tried to suplex PAC back into the ring, and PAC hit Beretta between the eyes with the hammer and got the pinfall. And I was totally ready to buy Beretta as champion, too. Great match.

PAC’s cheating brought Orange Cassidy out, who attacked PAC and chased him off. I thought this would lead to the ref seeing the hammer and maybe continuing the match or reversing the finish, but that didn’t happen. I guess they already dropped that angle with the referees being empowered they started two weeks ago.

– Tony Schiavone interviewed Chris Jericho and 2point0. It’s time for Daniel Garcia to come home to the JAS. They’re not mad at Garcia, they’re just disappointed. 2point0 are like Garcia’s two dads, and Jericho is like his older brother! Chris Jericho will bring back the Lionheart gimmick for his match with Bryan Danielson in Toronto.

–In a pre-taped promo, Claudio Castagnoli made it known he would be looking for whoever wins the ROH title match in Toronto next week.

– Ricky Starks joined the commentary team for the rest of the show.

Jade Cargill (w/ the Baddies) defeated Willow Nightingale to retain the TBS Championship (7:28)

Nightingale matched power with Cargill early on. Nightingale hit a shotgun dropkcik in the corner, then caught Cargill with a suplex. Nightingale countered a side suplex attempt and dumped Cargill to the floor. Nightingale took out the Baddies with a crossbody through the ropes. She charged Cargill on the floor, but Cargill picked Nightingale up in a cazadora and sent her face first into the ring stairs.

After a long break, Nightingale took over on Cargill with a clothesline, then took her down with a spinning head scissors. Nightingale hit a cannonball in the corner, then a shotgun dropkick off the middle rope for another near fall. Nightingale pulled down her straps (JR: “Where is Lawler when you need him?”) and went for another headscissors, but Cargill countered into a tilt-a-whirl slam, then immediately put Nightingale down with a Jaded Slam for the pinfall. This was a very good match from both women.

After the match, Vickie Guerrero came out and distracted Cargill. Nyla Rose came out from the crowd and stole the TBS Championship Belt.

– Lexi Nair interviewed Ethan Page, Stokely Hathaway and Matt Hardy. Hathaway confronted Hardy with the footage of his “contract tampering” with Private Party. This will probably lead to a match in Toronto, I’m guessing for Rampage.

– Lexi Nair interviewed Hook about the envelope from the TrustBusters. Hook tore up the envelope and walked away.

– Excalibur announced PAC defending the All Atlantic title against Orange Cassidy at Dynamite next Wednesday in Toronto.

– Hikaru Shida and Toni Storm cut a promo for their tag match with Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter next Wednesday.

– Bobby Cruise did the ring announcing for the main event. He wore a neckbrace to sell the beating he took from Chris Jericho last Wednesday in Philadelphia.

FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) defeated The Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) (w/ Prince Nana) to retain the ROH Tag Team Championships (13:26)

The Gunn Club were shown in the front row in FTR costumes. One of them had a skullcap and the other had an exaggerated wig to mock Wheeler’s mullet.

FTR got a huge pop on their entrance. Excalibur stressed that since this an ROH match, there will be a 20 count on the outside and the Code of Honor will be honored.

Kaun and Dax Harwood started out. Harwood caught Kaun with a swinging neckbreaker. Toa Liona ran in but FTR cut him off. Hawrood hit a suplex on Kaun and tagged in Wheeler, who dropped a leg on Kaun. Kaun cut off Wheeler with a suplex and tagged in Liona, who slammed Wheeler and landed a diving headbutt. Liona slowed things down with a nerve pinch, then sat down on Wheeler to block a sunset flip attempt. Liona hit a belly to belly suplex on Wheeler.

Wheeler and Liona fought on the floor, where Liona sent Wheeler into the ring barricade. Liona charged with a cannonball, but Wheeler ducked and Liona hit the barricade.

The Gates of Agony worked over Wheeler during the split-screen break.  Wheeler ducked a charge from Liona and sent him into the ringpost. Harwood got the tag and took the fight to Kaun, but Liona hit Harwood with a bodyblock and a Samoan drop. Liona went for the Tongan spike (a thumb to the throat), but Wheeler broke it up. Harwood tried a crossbody from the middle rope, but Liona caught him. Wheeler came off the middle rope with a dropkick into Harwood to take down Liona. FTR hit a double team hanging DDT (like Randy Orton’s) on Liona, which got a prop from the tired crowd.

FTR hit Kaun with a spike piledriver for a near fall. They went for the Big Rig on Lioa, but he was too big to get up for the move. But, when Liona charged at Harwood, they were able to get Liona up for the move. Prince Nana got up on the apron, and Harwood sent Kaun headfirst into Nana. Harwood caught Kaun with a backslide and got the pinfall. Anti-climatic finish, okay match.

After the match, Brian Cage ran into to help The Gates of Agony attack FTR. Wardlow ran in to help FTR, but soon he was overwhelmed 3-on-1 by the Gates of Agony and Cage. Samoa Joe ran in to even the odds, taking out Cage with right hands and a clothesline over the top rope. The babyfaces stood tall to close the show.

Final Thoughts:

Pretty good night of wrestling overall. That’s should be expected when you get PAC a half hour to wrestle.  Nothing really disappointing here, but PAC/Beretta was the stand out match of the night. Both trios matches on Rampage were great as well.

Two title matches added to AEW Battle of the Belts IV

Two new title matches have been added to Friday’s AEW Battle of the Belts IV.

FTR will defend the Ring of Honor Tag Team titles against Gates of Agony (Kaun and Toa Liona). Willow Nightingale, meanwhile, will have another chance to win the TBS Championship as she will challenge Jade Cargill.

Wednesday’s Dynamite saw Gates of Agony attack Wardlow and Samoa Joe after Wardlow had successfully defended the TNT Championship against Brian Cage. This brought out FTR, who evened the odds and took out Gates of Agony.

Willow Nightingale scored the pinfall win on Wednesday in a six-woman tag team match. Backstage, she issued a challenge for Battle of the Belts against Jade Cargill. Cargill and the baddies came in and confronted Nightingale, with Cargill mentioning that she had beaten Nightingale twice already. Nightingale said that is true, but Cargill couldn’t win forever.

Here is the current lineup for Battle of the Belts, which will air live Friday following Rampage:

  • AEW All-Atlantic title: PAC defends against Trent Beretta
  • ROH Tag Team titles: FTR defend against The Gates of Agony
  • AEW TBS title: Jade Cargill defends against Willow Nightingale

PAC vs. Trent Beretta set for AEW Battle of the Belts IV

A match for the AEW All-Atlantic title is set for next week’s Battle of the Belts IV.

AEW confirmed on Friday’s Rampage that PAC will defend the title against Trent Beretta. A short promo aired with Beretta and the other Best Friends on Rampage, with Beretta saying he’ll take the title.

PAC last defended the title at AEW Grand Slam on September 21, where he successfully retained the championship after defeating Orange Cassidy. He is the first champion, having defeated Miro, Malakai Black, and Clark Connors in a four-way match back at Forbidden Door on June 26.

Battle of the Belts IV will air right after AEW Rampage next Friday, October 7, with both shows airing back-to-back in a two hour block. Set for next week’s AEW Rampage is 10 taking on Andrade El Idolo in a match where if 10 wins, Andrade has to leave AEW. However, if Andrade wins, 10 has to take off his mask.

AEW Battle of the Belts IV to air live after Rampage

AEW Battle of the Belts IV will air live immediately following next Friday’s Rampage, according to Dave Meltzer.

The goal is to make both Rampage and Battle of the Belts IV feel like a major two-hour show. According to TNT’s schedule, Rampage will begin at 10 PM Eastern per usual with Battle of the Belts IV airing afterward.

The previous three Battle of the Belts shows aired on Saturdays with the first event broadcast live and the following two taped the night before.

The event will emanate from the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C., and will be the first of several Rampage events in October to be filmed separately from that week’s edition of Dynamite.

The October 14 edition of Rampage will be taped on Thursday, August 13 from Toronto’s Coca-Cola Coliseum. On October 21, Rampage will air live from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. Rampage on October 28 will then air live from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
