Kris Statlander returns, wins TBS title at AEW Double or Nothing

Kris Statlander is the new TBS Champion.

Statlander returned to AEW and defeated Jade Cargill in an impromptu match to win the title at Double or Nothing.

Following Cargill’s victory over Taya Valkyrie earlier on the show, Mark Sterling cut a promo saying she would take on anyone, anywhere at any time. Statlander’s music hit and the championship bout began once she hit the ring. Moments later, Statlander countered Jaded and hit a tombstone piledriver for the win.

Jade Cargill’s undefeated streak ends after 60 straight victories. Her TBS title reign ends after 509 days and 25 successful defenses.

Statlander had been out of action since last August after suffering a torn ACL. She underwent surgery to repair the injury in September.

This is Statlander’s first championship in AEW. Other titles she’s held elsewhere include the WSU World Championship and the AAW Women’s Championship. The 27-year-old made her professional debut in 2016 and was trained by Pat Buck and Brian Myers at Create A Pro Wrestler.

Nine matches announced for AEW Dark

De Lander’s former NXT rostermate Brady Booker (Bodhi Hayward) will have his second AEW outing as he takes on Serpentico.

Tuesday’s lineup was taped at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, last month.

Konosuke Takeshita will look to keep his recent win streak going as he faces Cole Karter.

Karter’s former mates who are now QTV (QT Marshall & Aaron Solo) will be in action against Austin Green & Vary Morales. Nick Comoroto, another former Factory member, will also take on AR Fox on the show.

AEW’s Kris Statlander undergoes knee surgery

Kris Statlander has undergone surgery for the knee injury that’s expected to keep her out of action into next year.

On her social media accounts on Wednesday, Statlander shared a photo of her in a hospital bed after undergoing surgery. She captioned it with “I must’ve been thinking of you when I got injured, because you make my knees weak. Xoxo”

Statlander revealed last month that she had suffered a “completely torn ACL and lateral meniscus.” Statlander said she expected to be out of action for 6-8 months due to the injury.

“Welp. One knee fixed, one to go,” Statlander tweeted on August 11. “After the first knee injury I came back stronger and better than ever so it’s all over for you all when I come back from this one. I’m sorry to let you all [down] once again. I’ll be back bigger, more powerful, and more than a woman.”

Statlander was previously out of action from June 2020 to April 2021 due to a torn ACL.

Statlander injured her knee last month during a match against Sierra that was taped for AEW Dark on August 5.

AEW’s Kris Statlander out 6-8 months with torn ACL

Kris Statlander is out through the end of the year.

Tuesday’s AEW Road To featured Statlander talking about her injury, which took place prior to a live edition of Rampage on August 5 against Sierra. She explained that the injury to her right knee took place after landing a big boot.

“After getting an MRI, I have a completely torn ACL, my lateral meniscus is torn, and there is lateral impaction fractures in my tibial and femoral heads that are more of a bruise, but technically a broken leg,” Statlander said. “So recovery time is about 6-8 months post operation.”

She added that initially she hoped that it was just a meniscus tear, but once it was shown her ACL was completely torn, she knew she would be out for a long time.

“Whenever my return is, I’m ready to feel it in the crowd. So thank you all for supporting me through this time,” she said.

Statlander previously tore the ACL in her left knee in 2020.

AEW’s Kris Statlander to have surgery for torn ACL, meniscus injuries

Two days after confirming that she suffered another knee injury, AEW’s Kris Statlander posted a workout video where she went into detail about the injuries and that she will need surgery.

In the audio of the Instagram video below, Statlander said she suffered a “completely torn ACL and lateral meniscus” and that the workout was designed to help her maintain as much strength as possible to lessen any post-operation atrophy.

The timeline for the surgery is unknown.

She said the workout video was taken exactly a week after she suffered the injury which was in her Friday, August 5th match against Sierra that was taped for AEW Dark. She landed awkwardly on her right leg after hitting a big boot, grabbing at it afterward.

The 27-year-old had suffered a torn left ACL in June 2020 that kept her out of action until April 2021. She had been featured in the current angle with TBS Champion Jade Cargill, the Baddies, and Athena.

AEW’s Kris Statlander out of action with knee injury

Kris Statlander is out of action with a knee injury.

She was removed from the promotion’s official power rankings on August 10 after having been ranked #2 in her division on August 3. Tony Schiavone then revealed on commentary during Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite that she is injured.

Statlander confirmed the injury in a social media post on Thursday.

“Welp. One knee fixed, one to go. After the first knee injury I came back stronger and better than ever so it’s all over for you all when I come back from this one. I’m sorry to let you all done once again. I’ll be back bigger, more powerful, and more than a woman,” she posted

Statlander may have suffered the injury during last Friday’s taping of AEW Dark. She appeared to land awkwardly on her leg during the finish of her match against Sierra. She could be seen grabbing her right knee after delivering a big boot to her opponent.

Statlander previously suffered a torn ACL to her left knee that required surgery in June of 2020. She was out of action until April 2021.

Ruby Soho vs. Kris Statlander set for next week’s AEW Rampage

Ruby Soho vs. Kris Statlander in an Owen Hart Foundation Tournament semifinal is set for next week’s AEW Rampage, airing at an early start time.

Statlander, subbing for Hikaru Shida, defeated Red Velvet in a quarterfinal bout in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament on this week’s Rampage to advance to the semifinals.

An early start time was also officially announced for next week’s Rampage, which will air at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time on TNT due to the network’s coverage of the NHL playoffs. The show will air live from the Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

The winner of Soho vs. Statlander will face the winner of the Britt Baker vs. Toni Storm match set for Dynamite in the Tournament finals at the Sunday, May 29 Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

Statlander and Soho faced off previously in the quarterfinals of the inaugural TBS Championship tournament in December 2021, with Soho winning.

Here is the lineup for next week’s Rampage:

AEW Rampage, Friday, May 27, 5:30 p.m. Eastern time on TNT —

  • Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament semifinal: Ruby Soho vs. Kris Statlander

Kris Statlander advances in AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournament

Kris Statlander has advanced in the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

Statlander defeated Red Velvet in the final quarterfinal match of the women’s tournament. The finish had Statlander reversing a roll-up for the win. After the match, Kiera Hogan immediately jumped Statlander. Ruby Soho, who was on commentary, attempted to make the save, but Cargill came in and attacked her. It took Anna Jay coming to the ring with Mark Sterling’s crutch to even the odds.

Hikaru Shida was originally set to face Red Velvet in the quarterfinals after qualifying. However, it was announced last week that Shida had suffered an injury and was unable to come back to the United States in time for the tournament.

As a result of her win, Statlander will now face Soho in the semifinals. Britt Baker, meanwhile, will face Toni Storm. The winners of both matches will advance to the finals, which will take place at Double or Nothing on May 29 in Las Vegas.

Statlander vs. Red Velvet Owen Hart Cup match set for next week’s AEW Rampage

Kris Statlander will face Red Velvet in an Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament quarterfinal match on next week’s AEW Rampage.

Statlander was announced as an injury replacement for Hikaru Shida on this week’s Rampage episode during an in-ring interview segment with Velvet, Jade Cargill, and Kiera Hogan.

For her part, Shida does not actually appear to be injured. She wrestled in Japan three times last week, plus once this past Sunday. In a social media post, Shida said “Japanese wrestling is nothing for them,” seemingly voicing frustration with AEW.

Shida tweeted on Friday:

Shida also tweeted a clip of her performance in the MAKAI fighting musical on Friday.

Shida last wrestled for AEW in Philadelphia on the April 27 Dynamite, losing a street fight to Serena Deeb.

The Statlander vs. Velvet match is the only match announced for next week’s Rampage to this point. Next week’s episode will again air at an earlier start time, currently scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern time.

  • Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament quarterfinal: Kris Statlander vs. Red Velvet

Hikaru Shida injured, out of AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournament

Note: This story features spoilers for AEW Rampage, which will air this Friday.

Hikaru Shida is out of the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament, and Kris Statlander will replace her.

While interviewing Jade Cargill, Kiera Hogan, and Red Velvet on the AEW Rampage that was taped after Dynamite, Tony Schiavone announced that Shida was injured. As a result, Kris Statlander will be replacing Shida against Red Velvet in a quarterfinal match that will take place on next week’s Rampage. It wasn’t mentioned what kind of injury Shida had suffered.

Shida had originally defeated Julia Hart to qualify for the tournament back on the April 6 edition of AEW Dynamite. Her last match to date was for Oz Academy in Japan back on May 8, when she teamed with Hiroyo Mastumoto and Rina Yamashita in a losing effort against Maya Yukihi, Mayumi Ozaki, and Saori Anou.

The Owen Hart Foundation women’s tournament started tonight on Dynamite, with Toni Storm defeating Jamie Hayter to advance to the semifinals. Storm will face the winner of a Britt Baker/mystery joker opponent that will take place on next week’s Dynamite.

AEW: Fight Forever to be available on PC, new footage released

AEW: Fight Forever will be released on PC in addition to consoles.

Evil Uno hosted a Twitch video on Wednesday and revealed more information about the game as well. He confirmed it will be titled “AEW: Fight Forever” as Tony Khan stated during the company’s show in Pittsburgh last month. Uno also revealed the game will be available on PC in addition to consoles.

In-game footage of Kris Statlander wrestling Nyla Rose with Aubrey Edwards as referee was shown. Statlander’s model in the game was as her “Galaxy’s Greatest Alien” gimmick.

Previous in-game footage featured Darby Allin, Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, Hikaru Shida, and Jungle Boy.

According to a report from Fightful, the video game is expected to be released in September. The roster size is believed to be around 50 wrestlers.

While not officially confirmed, Owen Hart will possibly be included in the game. In a press release last September, AEW revealed its collaboration with The Owen Hart Foundation will allow for, “the production of unique and original Owen Hart merchandise, including specified retail goods as well as the upcoming AEW console video game.”
