WWE gives Cody Rhodes injury update following WrestleMania 42 match

In the main event of WWE WrestleMania 42, Cody Rhodes suffered a brutal facial injury. Now, more updates have emerged on it.

In the closing moments of the match, fans saw Randy Orton land a punch on Rhodes’ face, which immediately busted him open. Later during the WWE WrestleMania 42 post-show, it was announced that Rhodes’ left eye was swollen shut.

Joe Tessitore and Rosenberg also commented on Rhodes’ potential concussion protocol, while WWE shared a video on social media that showed medical staff tending to Rhodes.

Now, according to BodySlam+, Rhodes was busted open in multiple places, had his eye swollen shut, and needed multiple staples in his head following the WrestleMania 42 Night One main event.

WWE also stated that Rhodes was currently not medically cleared to compete due to an orbital injury. There is also no confirmed timeline update on Rhodes’ return from the injury.

After the Night One show, WWE sent an alert to ticket holders that Rhodes was pulled from all appearances planned for the convention on Sunday due to the injuries he sustained.

Later, Rhodes was spotted in public with his nasty-looking eye injury. Fans can take a look at it here (Graphic warning).

Cody Rhodes suffers eye injury at WWE WrestleMania 42

Despite successfully defending his title at WWE WrestleMania 42, Cody Rhodes did not escape the match scratch-free.

In the main event of the night in Las Vegas, Nevada, Randy Orton and Rhodes took each other to their limits. While both men had their skulls busted open and sported a crimson mask, Rhodes somehow fought back and stood against all adversities to retain his title.

However, his celebration did not last long as Orton ended the night by hitting Rhodes with a brutal Punt Kick.

Later during the WWE WrestleMania 42 post-show, Joe Tessitore announced that Rhodes suffered an eye injury, which was being tended to by the doctors. The clip soon went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter). Rhodes’ face looked bloodied and bruised as his left eye also appeared swollen shut.

Peter Rosenberg also noted that Rhodes could be in concussion protocol for three days after taking the Punt Kick. There are currently no other updates on Rhodes’ injury.

WWE announces Cody Rhodes to miss nine months after pectoral surgery

Cody Rhodes will miss nine months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn right pectoral tendon, according to WWE.

The company announced on social media on Friday that Rhodes had undergone successful surgery on Thursday, but faces “a long recovery and will be unable to compete for nine months.”

The announcement echoes a tweet from Cody’s wife Brandi Rhodes on Thursday, which stated that the surgery was successful.

Rhodes suffered the torn pec while weight training last week ahead of Sunday’s Hell in a Cell match against Seth Rollins. Rhodes performed at Hell in a Cell in spite of the injury, with bruising evident across his chest and right arm.

On Monday’s Raw, an injury angle was shot where Rollins attacked Rhodes with a sledgehammer, writing Rhodes out of storylines while he recovers, and giving him a built-in opponent when he is able to return.

Rhodes re-joined WWE earlier this year after a three-year run as a talent and executive vice president in AEW. He re-debuted at WrestleMania 38, defeating Rollins in his first match back with the company.

WWE’s Cody Rhodes undergoes successful surgery to repair torn pectoral

Cody Rhodes has undergone successful surgery to repair his torn right pectoral.

Former AEW CBO Brandi Rhodes, Cody’s wife, made the announcement on social media on Thursday that surgery was deemed a success and that Cody is “on the road to recovery.”

Rhodes suffered the torn pec while weight training last week ahead of last Sunday’s Hell in a Cell bout against Seth Rollins. WWE stated on television that Rhodes had partially torn the tendon in a brawl with Rollins on last week’s Raw, with the complete tear coming during weight training.

Rhodes still performed at Hell in a Cell, defeating Rollins in the main event in a Hell in a Cell match. The following night on Raw, WWE shot an injury angle where Rollins attacked Rhodes with a sledgehammer.

No timetable has been stated as to an expected return to action for Rhodes, but various sports medicine sources indicate six to nine months as a general guideline.
