Leila Grey provides ACL injury update, shares Mercedes Mone’s role in recovery

Months after suffering a severe ACL injury, AEW/ROH wrestler Leila Grey has dropped an update on it.

During an appearance on a virtual signing for East Coast Autograph Auctions, Grey provided an update on her recovery and recent surgery. (H/T Fightful)

I’m actually healing up pretty well so, keeping up with my therapy and yeah, we’re gonna come back strong,” she said.

It’s a long process, but I’m trying to stay positive. Doing what I gotta do… to come back strong, make a big comeback because I miss all you guys so much. I miss going to work, I miss wrestling, I miss being in the ring.

It’s gonna be a long recovery. That is for sure, but I am definitely doing good on my physical therapy, and I’m healing up, and I’m going even a little faster than the healing timeline by my doctor, so it’s going good, but it’s definitely gonna be a while,” Grey continued.

A few months ago, in December 2025, Grey injured her ACL during her TBS Championship match against Mercedes Mone. She underwent successful surgery for it last month and has now opened up on Mone’s role in her recovery.

Of course, of course she did. Yes, and she was with me the whole time afterward. She did not leave my side. Mercedes has been great.”

The injury took place during the December 6, 2025, episode of AEW Collision at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Grey was previously a part of the SkyFlight faction, and there is currently no confirmed timeline for her return.

AEW’s Leila Grey undergoes ACL surgery

Leila Grey has undergone surgery.

The AEW wrestler suffered an ACL injury during her TBS title match against Mercedes Mone on the December 6, 2025 AEW Collision taping.

She posted to social media on Thursday that she recently had surgery, writing:

“Hey guys. I finally had my knee surgery yesterday. Everything went well. I’m home recovering and starting therapy tomorrow. Thank you all for the support during this time.”

A week after suffering the injury, Grey finished first in a WBFF competition while competing with her knee in a brace.

Grey revealed on January 19 that after consulting with surgeons, she would delay surgery until she regained a greater range of motion in her leg.

Before her injury, Grey had been a member of SkyFlight alongside Scorpio Sky, Dante Martin and Darius Martin, with Christopher Daniels. She defeated Zayda Steel in a singles match at ROH Final Battle Zero Hour the night before suffering the injury against Mone on Collision.

Leila Grey provides surgery update on her ACL injury

Over a month after suffering a severe ACL injury during her TBS Championship match against Mercedes Mone, AEW/ROH wrestler Leila Grey has dropped the latest update on her ACL injury surgery.

Recently, Grey uploaded a video on social media, sharing her gratitude toward the fans and AEW before showing the exact moment in the match where the injury happened. The injury took place when Mone pushed Grey into the corner turnbuckles, where she felt the “first pop.”

Never injured before, Grey was unsure about the severity of the “pop” and continued to fight in the match. However, things turned serious when she went for the running knee on Mone and felt the “second pop.” It was at this moment that Grey became aware of the injury.

Grey further continued and shared an important update on her pending surgery and an estimated timeline of when it might happen.

So, today is January 19th, and I had consultations with the surgeons. So, it’s been over a month since my injury. I finally got to see the surgeon today, and unfortunately, the feedback that I got was, I still do not have complete range of motion in my leg. So, I cannot fully extend it, still can’t bend my knees. So, because of that, I need to do more prehab, at least another month of prehab, twice a week. And then, after that, he said, he should be able to operate.”

The injury took place during the December 6, 2025, episode of AEW Collision at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

AEW wrestler reveals she suffered torn ACL in recent match

Leila Grey tore her ACL on the December 6 episode of AEW Collision.

Grey was wrestling Mercedes Mone on the show and fell to the mat after delivering a running knee in the corner. Shortly after, Mone put Grey in the Statement Maker for the win.

Despite suffering the injury, Grey recently finished first at a WBFF Pro Fitness event, performing in the competition with a knee brace. Grey says she’ll need surgery for the injury that will put her out of action for some time.

Grey wrote:

“FIRST PLACE BABY! 🥇

I just won, went Pro, and become the new WBFF Pro Fitness Diva!!….. with a freakin’ torn ACL!

For those that may not know, I tore my ACL last week in my match with Mercedes. I’ll be going into surgery and will be out of commission for a while. This couldn’t have happened at a worse time. Not only did it affect my championship match, a MAJOR opportunity for me, but it happened one week out from my debut WBFF show that I had invested so much of my life into the past year. People expected me to drop out, but honey,

There’s no quit in me. I’m a boss ass baddie, and I always get the job done. Strapped up, blinged out my knee brace and it was go time! The devil tried to take this away from me but God said nope! THIS IS FOR YOU!! Thank you to all of my amazing supporters. I love you all. This is just the beginning in my fitness career. Many more wins to come! ❤️

Thank you WBFF for allowing me to live out my dreams.”

Bryan Alvarez addressed Grey’s injury on The Bryan & Vinny Show last weekend, saying he believes she actually suffered the torn ACL on a sling blade earlier in the match and not on the running knee in the corner.

Alvarez said:

“I actually think that she hurt her knee on a sling blade because she did a sling blade prior to this and you can see she’s trying to get up and she’s doing it very slowly. And then she sort of half limps into this knee in the corner and then she collapses. She did manage to get one more spot or two in but then Mercedes put her in the Banks Statement and submitted her.”

“The fact of the matter is, for whatever reason, and it’s not just women wrestlers, it’s women athletes, they tear their ACLs all the time and her going down like that did not look good.”

Two title matches added to AEW Collision

Two new title matches has been added to Saturday’s AEW Collision.

At Friday’s ROH Final Battle, Red Velvet pulled off a huge win, defeating Mercedes Mone to regain the ROH Women’s Television Championship. As Mone was reeling from her loss backstage, Leila Grey walked up to her and said even with just twelve titles, she’s still the “baddest b****”.

An enraged Mone tore Grey up and down, but Grey responded by saying she’d be the next TBS Champion and asked Mone what she was doing tomorrow. Mone walked off upset as Tony Khan quickly made the match official.

After spending most of the year accumulating titles, Mone has seen a string of back luck since Full Gear, where she was unable to win the AEW Women’s Championship from Kris Statlander, the only championship Mone has failed to win.

During the post-show press conference, Khan told Ricochet that he would be defending the National title on tomorrow’s Collision, though he didn’t specify who he’d be facing.

It was announced earlier on Friday that Swerve Strickland would also be appearing on Collision.

AEW Collision lineup | Saturday, December 6

  • Swerve Strickland will appear
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Leila Grey
  • AEW National title: Ricochet defends against TBA
  • Continental Classic Blue League: Claudio Castagnoli (6 points) vs. Mascara Dorada (0 points)

During a promo battle involving Rayne, Stokely Hathaway and TBS Champion Jade Cargill on Dark: Elevation, Rayne suggested that she would be challenging Cargill. Instead, Cargill and Hathaway suggested that Rayne face Grey on Rampage.

Jade Cargill vs. Leila Grey announced for AEW Blood & Guts

A TBS Championship match has been added to tomorrow’s AEW Blood & Guts.

On Twitter tonight, Stokely Hathaway issued an open challenge on behalf of TBS Champion Jade Cargill, asking Tony Khan to make it official. Khan responded on Twitter that he would forward it to the roster, then later confirmed that Grey would be the one to challenge Cargill on tomorrow’s show.

Cargill most recently defended her title on the episode of Rampage that aired on June 15, defeating Willow Nightingale. In the weeks since Double or Nothing, she has feuded with the likes of Athena and Kris Statlander, both of whom are looking for a future TBS Championship match.

Grey is the current Ohio Valley Wrestling Women’s Champion. Earlier this year, she appeared on WWE SmackDown under the name Cat Cardoza, where she lost to Raquel Rodriguez. She also appeared on an episode of Rampage in March where she lost a Five Minute Rookie Challenge to Serena Deeb.
