Hazuki advances in AEW women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament

Hazuki has advanced in the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

The Stardom wrestler scored a surprise win on Saturday, pinning Persephone with a cradle to advance in the tournament. She will now move to the semifinals where she will face Mercedes Mone.

After the match, Hazuki made her way up the ramp as suddenly Mone appeared and attacked Persephone with the Owen Hart tournament title. She put the statement maker on Persephone until Hazuki came back to make the save. As Hazuki was checking on Persephone, Mone attacked her as well as security rushed to break up the fight.

At the end of the night it was Hazuki who stood tall, however, wiping out Mone with a dive to the outside to close out the show.

Mone returns, Athena advances in women’s Owen Hart Foundation touranment

Mone ended up being the wildcard of the tournament, defeating Alex Windsor this past Wednesday. It was the first time Mone has wrestled since the end of 2025, when she dropped the TBS Championship to Willow Nightingale.

Persephone had been put out of action in storyline after she was misted by the Triangle of Madness. She returned to television on last week’s Collision, doing commentary for a Hazuki match.

The other side of the Owen Hart Foundation bracket has Athena already in the semifinals, defeating Mina Shirakawa back at Double or Nothing. She will face the winner of the match between Sareee and Skye Blue that takes place this coming Wednesday at AEW Dynamite Summer Blockbuster.

After the match Persephone, whose eyes still seemed to be injured as a result of the attack, had a staredown with Hazuki ahead of next week.

Meanwhile, Megan Bayne & Lena Kross will defend the AEW Women’s Tag Team titles against TayJay. The two challengers were victorious on Saturday in Huntsville, Alabama, becoming the first team to endure five minutes with the dominant champions.

Tony Khan gives timeline for Sareee & Persephone to compete in AEW Owen Hart tournament

On Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, the full bracket for the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament was revealed with several surprises including debuting Japanese stars Sareee and Hazuki in addition to reigning CMLL Women’s Champion Persephone.

However, with Sareee saying Thursday that she was taking a month off for “neck maintenance” and Persephone out of action to the point she had to be pulled from Friday’s ROH Supercard of Honor, it raised questions as to both woman’s health for the tournament that begins next weekend.

AEW head Tony Khan was asked about their status during the Supercard of Honor media call Thursday and said that both are expected to wrestle in the tournament as planned. However, he said their quarterfinal matches will likely take place in June as opposed to right away, noting that the finals of the eight-woman tournament aren’t until late-June at Forbidden Door.

Our Bryan Alvarez reported Thursday after the call that as of Wednesday night, all women in the tournament were expected to compete.

Sareee is scheduled to face Skye Blue while Persephone is slated to go one-on-one with the aforementioned Hazuki of Stardom on the left side. Both matches are on opposite sides of the bracket. Persephone last wrestled on the April 22 Collision in a tag team match after which she was sidelined indefinitely. She was tabbed for the first-ever women’s Survival of the Fittest match at Supercard of Honor before being pulled.

Sareee to make AEW debut in women’s Owen Hart tournament, full bracket revealed

The full bracket has been revealed for the women’s AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournament which will feature the promotional debuts of Japanese standouts Sareee and Hazuki.

Sareee will take on Skye Blue in a quarterfinal on the right side of the eight woman bracket with the winner moving on to face reigning Ring of Honor Women’s Champion Athena vs. Mina Shirakawa. It will be the first AEW match for Athena since last December. She competed in last year’s tournament, falling to Mercedes Mone in a semifinal.

On the left side, CMLL Women’s Champion Persephone will return to action after getting injured in a late-April Collision bout that saw her pulled from this Friday’s ROH Supercard of Honor. She will take on the debuting Hazuki of Stardom who will be making her promotional debut in a first time ever match.

The winner takes on the winner of TBS Champion Willow Nightingale vs. Alex Windsor which was announced for next weekend’s Double or Nothing in another first time matchup. Of the four announced matches, it’s the only one with a set date.

The finals take place at June’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view from San Jose, California, with the tournament winner presumed to challenge for the title at August’s All In.

Mercedes Mone wins women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament at AEW Double or Nothing

Mercedes Mone is going to All In.

In the opening match of Sunday’s Double or Nothing, Mercedes Mone defeated Jamie Hayter in the finals of the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. With the win, she will now challenge either Toni Storm or Mina Shirakawa for the AEW Women’s title at All In on July 12.

The match was competitive, with both women scoring multiple near falls. The finish had Mone go for a cradle, but drove Hayter’s neck down to the mat with a DDT on impact allowing Mone to score the three count.

Mone defeated Julia Hart and Athena to reach the finals, while Hayter defeated Billie Starkz and Kris Statlander. Last year’s winner was Mariah May, who promptly turned on her former mentor in Storm after winning the tournament. The two would go on to face off at All In 2024, where May defeated Storm to win the AEW Women’s title. At Revolution earlier this year, their storyline ended after Storm defeated May in a Hollywood Ending match.

Storm will defend the AEW Women’s Championship later at Double or Nothing against Shirakawa, who recently pinned Storm to earn a championship match.

Skye Blue then hit the ring with a steel stair as the Outcasts backed off, with Storm exchanging words with Nightingale ahead of their AEW Women’s Championship match on Sunday’s Forbidden Door event.

Baker defeated Toni Storm on tonight’s Dynamite to advance. The finish had Jamie Hayter come to the apron. Storm knocked Hayter off the apron, but Baker used the opportunity to roll up Storm, grabbing the ropes for the three count.

With the win, Baker will now advance to the finals, which will take place at Double or Nothing on Sunday. She will face the winner of the last semifinal match between Ruby Soho and Kris Statlander, which will take place on this Friday’s Rampage in Las Vegas.

Baker originally qualified for the tournament by defeating Danielle Kamela, then defeated the mystery joker entrant last week on Dynamite, which turned out to be Maki Itoh.

The men’s finals were set on tonight’s Dynamite, with Samoa Joe defeating Kyle O’Reilly to advance to the finals, where he will take on Adam Cole.

Kris Statlander advances in AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournament

Kris Statlander has advanced in the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

Statlander defeated Red Velvet in the final quarterfinal match of the women’s tournament. The finish had Statlander reversing a roll-up for the win. After the match, Kiera Hogan immediately jumped Statlander. Ruby Soho, who was on commentary, attempted to make the save, but Cargill came in and attacked her. It took Anna Jay coming to the ring with Mark Sterling’s crutch to even the odds.

Hikaru Shida was originally set to face Red Velvet in the quarterfinals after qualifying. However, it was announced last week that Shida had suffered an injury and was unable to come back to the United States in time for the tournament.

As a result of her win, Statlander will now face Soho in the semifinals. Britt Baker, meanwhile, will face Toni Storm. The winners of both matches will advance to the finals, which will take place at Double or Nothing on May 29 in Las Vegas.

Hikaru Shida ‘healthy,’ addresses AEW Owen Hart Tournament absence

On Friday’s AEW Rampage, Tony Schiavone revealed in an in-ring promo segment that Hikaru Shida was injured following her recent street fight with Serena Deeb.

As a result, she was being replaced by Kris Statlander in her Owen Hart Foundation Tournament match against Red Velvet next Friday.

However, the former AEW Women’s Champion seemed surprised by the news, taking to Twitter Friday to attempt to explain what appears to be miscommunication between her and AEW and that she is actually not hurt.

Shida is in Japan currently and has been in the ring four times since the Deeb match.

After first quote tweeting “What?” to AEW’s tweet with the announcement, Shida pointed out the aforementioned matches and her appearance in a MAKAI music show that involves choreographed fighting, but that “I seem to have been injured.”

An hour later, she wished Statlander good luck and that she was going to enjoy her “sudden holidays in Japan:”

Hours later, Shida tweeted another statement, saying that after the street fight, “a doctor check was required to participate in the Owen Hart Cup. And I couldn’t re-enter the country in time,” adding that she feels healthy.

It’s unknown when Shida will return to the U.S. for AEW, but it will not be in the Owen Hart Tournament when she does.

Hikaru Shida injured, out of AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournament

Note: This story features spoilers for AEW Rampage, which will air this Friday.

Hikaru Shida is out of the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament, and Kris Statlander will replace her.

While interviewing Jade Cargill, Kiera Hogan, and Red Velvet on the AEW Rampage that was taped after Dynamite, Tony Schiavone announced that Shida was injured. As a result, Kris Statlander will be replacing Shida against Red Velvet in a quarterfinal match that will take place on next week’s Rampage. It wasn’t mentioned what kind of injury Shida had suffered.

Shida had originally defeated Julia Hart to qualify for the tournament back on the April 6 edition of AEW Dynamite. Her last match to date was for Oz Academy in Japan back on May 8, when she teamed with Hiroyo Mastumoto and Rina Yamashita in a losing effort against Maya Yukihi, Mayumi Ozaki, and Saori Anou.

The Owen Hart Foundation women’s tournament started tonight on Dynamite, with Toni Storm defeating Jamie Hayter to advance to the semifinals. Storm will face the winner of a Britt Baker/mystery joker opponent that will take place on next week’s Dynamite.

“Tonight on #AEWDynamite next on @TBSNetwork @ 8pm ET/7pm CT, the inaugural Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament begins on a huge night of pro wrestling,” Khan wrote on Twitter. “Thank you Dr. Martha Hart, Oje Hart & Athena Hart for joining us tonight as @AEW honors the legacy of the late great Owen Hart!”
