Here we be, Ring of Honor Faithful! The milestone 100th episode of Ring of Honor on Honorclub and what a ride it’s been. I’ll be honest, I was not super familiar with Ring of Honor when I started this gig, but over the episodes I’ve covered, I have developed a real excitement for Thursday nights! This is some of the best wresting out there right now, with exciting matches and lots of really, really good workers. The storylines and presentation need a little work in order to create a cohesive show week to week, but hey, that’s what the next 100 episodes are for! And I’m stoked to see how ROH develops in the coming year.

So with all that said, let’s strap on some incorrect Premier Athletes merch, have a quick dance with Angelico and Serpentico, re-up our Minion memberships, touch some tips and get right into it!

-In the cold open, we were joined by former ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe who professed his love and offered congrats to everyone in ROH for reaching 100 episodes.

ROH World Television Title Match: Komander (w/Alex Abrahantes) (c) defeated QT Marshall

A few weeks ago, Marshall made the smart choice and allowed as much time to run off the clock as possible in a Proving Ground match against Komander. This led to Marshall winning the match (which honestly, rarely happens) and earning and shot at Komander’s ROH TVT Title. Marshall is cashing in his win on the 100th episode of ROH on Honorclub and this should be a good one! Komander has only defended the title one other time since winning it at Final Battle 2024 so this could make for a short title reign!

Marshall had the definite size advantage over Komander and has been working in Mexico a lot recently, so he knows how to work around luchadore speed and agility. Komander however, outlasted 5 other wrestlers to win that title in the first place, so his endurance wasn’t something to sneeze at.

Marshall tried to over power Komander off the top, but Komander countered with a hurricanrana. Marshall laid in a really great backbreaker into spiked DDT, sending Komander bouncing out of the ring. Marshall chopped Komander against the barricade, but drove his hand into the ringpost when Komander ducked.

Back in the ring, Marshall caught Komander with a pop up forearm to the face and dragged him down for a two-count. Marshall then tried to take off Komander’s mask to a chorus of boos. Marshall left the ring and Komander followed via the top turnbuckle and a big moonsault.

Komander tried a springboard moonsault fromthe second rope, but Marshall got his knees up. Komander tried to battle back, but Marshall caught him with Diamond Cutter out of nowhere. Masrhall climbed out and grabbed the TV Title belt. Komander reversed the distraction into a Mexican destroyer though and went tot he top rope.

Komander tried to get Marshall with a dive, but Marshall rolled out of the ring onto the raised entrance ramp. Back in the ring, Komander hit another Mexican Destroyer followed by the running moonsault to get the 1-2-3 and retain his ROH TV Title!

After the match, Lee Johnson wandered down the ramp. He made the universal sign for “title belt” at Komander, who invited him into the ring. Johnson said “another day” though and left from where he came.

Backstage. He was backstage and then went back there.

Leila Grey defeated Marti Belle

The last time we saw Top Flight’s Grey in ROH, it was on the losing end of a Proving Ground match with ROH Women’s World Champion Athena. Since then, Grey actually won the MCW Women’s Champion from Gia Scott, but lost it back to her the next night. Since then, she’s been taking losses in AEW and NJPW, so a win here would be nice. Belle is a bookish young girl from the French countryside with an affinity for beast— no, wait, she’s actually the current EMERGE Women’s Champion, and enjoyed some success in TNA where she teamed with none other than Allysin Kay.

The two locked up right off the top, trading waistlocks until Grey got the advantaged and locked in an armbar. Belle worked her way out though and the wasitlocks resumed. Grey came out on top again, sending Belle to the corner for a healthy serving of forearms. Belle tried to reverse it, but Grey was waiting and hit a bulldog.

Grey headed to the top turnbuckle but Belle knocked the ropes, sending her to the mat. Belle worked Grey in the corner and sent her into the ropes for a clothesline. Belle started playing to the crowd which may not have been the best idea as it gave Grey a chance to battle back, sending Belle to the ground with a clothesline of her own.

Grey hit a running neckbreaker into a dragon sleeper and Belle had no choice but to tap out.

The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd) defeated Jon Cruz & Rosario Grillo

The Outrunners are always going to be Fan Favourites. Their 80’s schtick fits in really well in ROH because they are the only ones doing it and they are doing it very, very well. I wanted to dislike them, I really did. But their enthusiasm is infectious and they can work all the power moves in the ring. Cruz and Grillo are regular faces in ROH, but probably not greasy enough to be up to the task of beating Magnum and Floyd.

The Electric Code of Honor was adhered to, and Cruz and Floyd kicked things off while Magnum fired up the crowd. They traded the most intense wristlocks and breakneck speed, with Magnum coming out on top and Cruz exiting the ring. Cruz wandered over to the ramp where the Outrunners had left their BluBlocker Raybans. Cruz stomped on them, enraging the Outrunners.

Magnum dragged Cruz back to the ring and tagged in Floyd. Cruz tried to throw some potatoes, but Floyd shrugged them off and dropped him on the mat with a stalling snowplow! Grillo jumped in and Floyd tossed him out. Cruz tried to sneak up on Floyd, but that just brought in Magnum. The Outrunners locked hands and hit the Mascularity followed by a Total Recall. That was it for Cruz and Grillo, with Grillo never officially making it into the match.

The lesson: Do not destroy the shades of 1980’s time travelers.

-Next up ROH Women’s World Champion Athena joined us in a taped promo from Japan. She showed some clips from her “world tour” and promised to be back in ROH very soon.

The Beast Mortos defeated Lord Crewe

The Beast Mortos found his way back to ROH last week where he and Tony Neese beat the ever-lovin’ heck out of each other. Mortos would be someone that I pushed into a Main Event slot in ROH as soon as possible, but they don’t let me write the show (yet), just write about it. As for his opponent, they should re-name him Lorde “Chew” by the way Mortos was looking at Crewe. Being a beast, it’s presumed that Mortos would want to eat Crewe, but for now a wrestling match is a good start.

Crewe stood a few inches taller than Mortos, but when taking on a beast size really doesn’t matter. It’s all about how long you can survive. Crew looked like he might last a while until Mortos flattened him with a series of kicks and armdrags.

Crewe tried a quick rollup, but it only got a two. Mortos and Crewe ran a fast, intense series off the ropes and Crewe actually managed to club Mortos to his knees, a feat not often seen. Crewe tried a running corner attack, but Mortos delievered an elbow instead.

The two big men got into the chops, with Crewe holding his own. Mortos began hitting sling blades, with the last one moving into a samoan drop. Mortos kept trying to overpower Crewe, but had unfortunately founda man who was his size equal. Mortos hit him with everything he had and managed to finally get Crewe down for the pin.

Mortos won the match, but Crewe was really impressive. With a little packaging and conditioning, he would fit in really well in AEW or WWE.

ROH Classic Match: ROH Tag Champions Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal vs CIMA and Shingo (ROH International Challenge, 22nd December, 2006)

Christopher Daniels supposedly ended his long and legendary in-ring career in a bloody match against Hangman Page. To celebrate the Ring of Honor staple, this tag match from when Daniels was an ROH Tag Champion with Matt Sydal. Their opponents were two Dragon Gate veterans in CIMA and Shingo, so it was a “Dragon Gate Style” Match which was a lot of fun!

-Leila Grey was interviewed backstage. She was stoked about her win earlier in the evening and was thinking that it might time for her to challenge Red Velvet for the ROH Women’s TV Championship. Grey issued the challenge for next week. Get it? Got it? Good.

Taya Valkyrie (w/Deonna Purrazzo) defeated Lady Frost

Taya Valkyrie has been away from ROH for a while, but spent some time in AEW taking on Toni Storm and teaming with Purrazzo as “The Vendetta.” More importantly, Valkyrie’s home that she shares with husband Johnny TV was spared from the recent wildfires in the Los Angeles region where they live. Valkyrie has spent much of her time handing out food and supplies to displaced neighbors, which is pretty darn great of her.

Since October, Frost has racked up losses to a who’s who of ROH competitors such as Billie Starkz, Queen Aminata and even ROH Women’s World Champion Athena. She’s in deep here against a powerhouse in Valkyrie, but a win could turn things around for Frost in ROH.

Valkyrie had control off the top, powering through whatever Frost sent her way. Valkyrie wrestles with such confidence that it wasn’t a huge shock to see her having an answer for anything Frost threw at her.

Valkyrie dragged Frost out of the ring and threw her into the guardrail. She then mugged for a bit, giving Purrazzo the chance to stomp on Frost. Back in the ring, Frost tried to battle back, but only managed to get a dropkick in on Valkyrie’s spine. After that, Valkyrie hit a fallaway slam to regain control.

Frost managed to get Valkyrie into the corner for a running Snowball and then she climbed to the top turnbuckle for a crossbody and a two count. Valkyrie followed up with a blue thinder bomb and locked in Shania Pain. Frost’s head bounced off the mat and Valkyrie covered her for the pin.

-Jakked Jameson of all people joined us from the back. He was looking for new pals and approached Griff Garrison and Cole Karter. Jameson tried to convince them to join him in a new “fraternity” group. Chicks, parties, money, titles, awesome. They shooed Jameson away with a promise to talk about it.

Gates Of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) defeated Jay Lucas & Terry Yaki

Gates of Agony are here and they are in a foul, foul mood. The Gates lost to Shane Taylor Promotions a couple of weeks ago and that would turn anyone sour (not that they were exactly Teletubbies to begin with. They may have gotten into this match by accident while trying to order dinner, specifically Terry Yaki.

Lucas and his partner have been going by Top Team on the indies, but sadly his partner is the aforementioned horribly named Terry Yaki. He has lots of singles indie cred, but his name makes me genuinely angry, so I’m going to stop talking about him until the Gates do their thing. Their only ROH appearance before this was a loss to BEEF and Anthony Henry on ROH on Honorclub #80.

Kaun spent the opening minutes attempting to catch a very speedy Yaki. When he did, it was with a clothesline that sent Yaki spinning in the air. Liona tagged in for a try and prevented Yaki from getting a tag to Lucas. When he finally did, both Liona and Kaun met him in the middle of the ring and double teamed him. Liona covered Lucas and the match was over.

-Next, matches were made official! Next week, we will see ROH TV Champion Komander take on Lee Johnson and ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet take on Leila Grey!

-The ROH World Champion “The Nueve” Chris Jericho joined us in a taped segment. He said that the 100th episode of Ring of Honor is the perfect time to show his 100 greatest moments! He ran down some former ROH Champions and congratulated ROH on 100 eps. Thanks Guys!

Katsuyori Shibata defeated Shane Taylor (w/Carlie Bravo, Lee Moriarty & Shawn Dean)

Shane Taylor is an animal. The 300+ lb Taylor not only has the distinction of being a former ROH World TV and Six-Man Champion, but he also has the most devastating stable backing him up with the likes of the Infantry and ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty at his side. Taylor, it goes without saying, is very, very good at pro wrestling. Shibata recently took a shot at Daniel Garcia and the AEW TNT Title on Collision but came up short. Shibata is 18-2 in ROH and wore the ROH Pure Title for 239 days before losing it to Wheeler Yuta. He is also very, very good at pro wrestling. Just saying.

The two locked up off the top, brawler vs technician. Taylor ran his mouth, calling Shibata a “little Japanese bitch.” That brought a slap from Shibata and the two began the ceremonial trading-of-chops, with Shibata (eventually) stunning Taylor, sending him into the corner. Shibata then charged him, but Taylor laid him out with an uppercut, sending him out of the ring.

On the outside, the Infantry and Moriarty stomped on Shibata while Taylor kept the Ref occupied. Taylor joined them, dropping a huge leg on Shibata on the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring!). Taylor showed no mercy, sending Shibata into the guardrail again.

Back in the ring, Shibata began a comeback that ended with a big lariat from Taylor. Taylor continued talking trash while Shibata staggered to his feet. Taylor peppered him with punches in the midsection. Taylor went for a splash, but Shitbata ducked it and threw some rapid fire chops on Taylor in the corner.

Shibata hit a suplex on the much larger Taylor and resumed punshing him in the head. Taylor stood and the two traded blows. Taylor hit a Marcus Garvey Driver, but Shibata was able to kick out at two. Taylor misjudged a move and Shibata locked in a sleeper. Taylor began to fade and Shibata broke the hold and delivered a massive knee to the face. He then pinned Taylor for the huge win.

After the match, The Infantry and Moriarty climbed into the ring and attacked Shibata. Taylor yelled instructions as the crew laid out Shibata. Taylor grabbed a chair and was about to introduce Shibata’s face to it until the AEW TNT Champion Daniel Garicia appeared at the top of the ring.

Shane Taylor Promotions considered this developement when suddenly, the Undisputed Kingdom arrived and stormed the ring! Adam Cole, Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly ran off STP and stood tall with Shibata and Garcia in the ring.

The Camera cut to the backstage area where Don Callis cut a promo saying that Shibata was not bigger than Callis Family Member and AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita! A challenge was issued for the next episode of AEW Collison!

And there it is! 100 Episodes of Ring of Honor on Honorclub in the books! Here’s to the next 100!

TNT title defense part of updated lineup for AEW Collision

A TNT title defense is one of several new matches for tonight’s AEW Collision.

Reigning champion Daniel Garcia will put the title on the line against Katsuyori Shibata after picking up his first defense last Saturday over Mark Briscoe. The past partners have gone one-on-one just once at last July’s ROH Death Before Dishonor for Shibata’s then-Pure title.

AEW Trios Champion PAC will take on current ROH TV Champion Komander. It will be PAC’s first match since December 18, 2024, as Dave Meltzer noted in Friday’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he had been given a few weeks off.

The new additions are rounded out by The Outrunners vs. PAC’s fellow Trios titleholders Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta. The Outrunners were taken out by the Death Riders at the end of last week’s Collision.

Khan also noted that tonight’s show in Athens, Georgia, may be impacted by weather-related travel issues. However, he mentioned that AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May was in a limo on her way to the venue. May will wrestle Harley Cameron in a non-title match on tonight’s show.

Here’s the updated lineup for Athens, Georgia:

  • AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May vs. Harley Cameron in a non-title match
  • ROH World Champion Chris Jericho vs. Dax Harwood in a non-title match
  • Cope vs. Big Bill
  • TNT Champion Daniel Garcia defends against Katsuyori Shibata
  • PAC vs. Komander
  • Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli vs. The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd)

QT Marshall to challenge for TV title on next week’s Ring of Honor

QT Marshall will take his shot at the Ring of Honor World Television Championship on next week’s ROH TV.

In a promo airing on this week’s Ring of Honor TV episode on Honor Club, Marshall announced his intention to challenge Komander for the TV title on the Thursday, January 16 show.

Marshall went to a time limit draw with Komander in a Proving Ground match on the January 2 ROH TV episode to earn the right to challenge for the title. That match was taped in Asheville, North Carolina at the January 1 AEW Dynamite event.

Komander won the ROH TV title at Final Battle in December in a Survival of the Fittest match, outlasting former champ Brian Cage, Mark Davis, Willie Mack, Blake Christian, and AR Fox to become champion.

Marshall’s last ROH victory came in July 2024 in a dark match at a taping in Mississippi. His last victory that aired on Ring of Honor TV came in October 2023.

Ring of Honor TV live results: Women’s Television title defense

Ring of Honor women’s TV Champion Red Velvet will put her title on the line as part of tonight’s show on HonorClub.

Velvet will defend against HANAKO of Stardom fame after she debuted on the Final Battle pre-show in a win over Harley Cameron. The champion is looking for her fourth title defense.

ROH men’s TV Champion Komander will take on QT Marshall in a Proving Ground match where if Marshall defeats or goes to a draw with the champion, he earns a future title shot.

After making a surprise appearance last Thursday as Rocky Romero’s partner, former ROH World Champion Homicide will once again team with Romero against Action Andretti & Lio Rush. The latter will challenge AEW Tag Team Champions Private Party on Saturday’s Collision.

Shane Taylor Promotions (Taylor, Lee Moriarty & The Infantry) will face Dark Order (Evil Uno and Alex Reynolds) & the Iron Savages.

The aforementioned Harley Cameron will take on Ashley Vox to round out the card.

**********

It’s the 97th episode of ROH on Honorclub and the first of a brand new year! With talk of a TV deal for ROH being on Tony Khan’s 2025 wishlist, it’s time for ROH to shine! Starting with:

ROH Women’s World Television Title Match: Red Velvet (c) defeated HANAKO

Velvet retained her title in a brutal affair against Leyla Hirsch at Final Battle 2024 that involved a wrench. On the Final Battle Pre-Show we saw Stardom star HANAKO defeat Harley Cameron. Both of these women have some momentum as they meet up in ROH’s first title match of 2025, and Velvet’s fourth title defence overall.

Velvet was the smaller of the two women in the ring, but what she lacked in height she made up for in swagger, getting right in HANAKO’s face off the top. Velvet used the ropes to get some momentum but bounced off HANAKO who easily picked her up for a slam.

Velvet slipped out of the ring, drawing HANAKO into a race? They ran in a circle around the ring until Velver hopped back in and lured HANAKO into the corner. The two traded blows until Velvet was distracted by the crowd (asking them politely to “shut up.”) and HANAKO burst out. Velvet got the upper hand again though, wrapping HANAKO’s knee around the ringpost.

All was not lost for HANAKO though as she planted Velvet with a huge stalling suplex and some big back elbows that sent Velvet careening across the ring. She hit a big splash on Velvet for a two count but Velvet battled back with some double knees to the back of HANAKO’s head.

Velvet managed to get HANAKO off her feet with some chop blocks and kicks to the leg. She hit a Mama’s Kitchen and pinned the challenger to retain her title.

-A Shane Taylor vingette aired next. Taylor told us about greed, and how you need to be ruthless to be successful. Taylor says real warriors are gone, but Shane Taylor Promotions aren’t afraid to go to war to prove they are the baddest.

Action Andretti & Lio Rush defeated Homicide & Rocky Romero

Andretti and Rush have been teaming together through most of December and it begs the question how did no one think of this sooner? They are natural partners and would elevate any tag division, largely because of their very, very excellent jackets. Longtime friends and canine-enthusiasts Homicide & Romero picked up a win over Aaron Solo and QT Marshall on Boxing Day, so they have some momentum headed into this match. No cool jackets though.

Rush and Romero kicked things off, and the name of the game was speed. They flew around the ring so fast, no one even saw a tag in for Andretti. He was just suddenly there. Rush and Andretti bailed to the outside to talk strategy while Homicide played to the crowd. Rush eventually got back in and ran literal circles around Homicide.

Romero dodged a double team from Rush and Andretti, but they kept bouncing around, frustrating the veterans. Homicide went to the outside to throw a chair all angry-like. Rush and Romero remained legal, Rush setting a pace with a dropkick. Andretti tagged in and worked Romero’s arm, isolating him from Homicide.

A miscommunication led to Andretti accidentally hitting Rush on the outside. Homicide took advantage of the confusion and tagged in to take on both Rush and Andretti. Homicide hit a set of rolling suplexes and a cutter on Andretti but could only get a two-count.

Homicide produced a fork, but missed with it, embedding it in the turnbuckle. While the ref was trying to get the fork unstuck, Andretti hit Homicide with a low blow and rolled him up for the win. It was forking great.

-A promo from the Sons of Texas, Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara, from just after their Double Bull Rope match at Final Battle aired. Rhodes thanked Guevara for being there and then recapped the feud with the Righteous for some reason while lauding praise on Guevara. Bottom line, they hugged and are buds. They then gave a shot at the ROH Tag Titles to the House of Torture at Wrestle Dynasty.

Harley Cameron defeated Ashley Vox

I’m just going to come right out and say it: Harley Cameron is very, very good. She’s dynamite in promos and a really good worker in the ring. I think Cameron is going to be a big deal in ROH and AEW this year. Vox is making her return to ROH, with her last match being back in 2021. And I know what you’re thinking: Yes, 2021 was four years ago.

Cameron had the upper hand off the top, catching Vox in a quick headlock and trading dropkicks. Cameron’s aggressive streak came out right away and she laid some big kicks into Vox’ face. Cameron dodged a cannonball in the corner followed by a suplex.

Cameron chopped Vox on the ropes, playing to the crowd as she drove elbows into Vox’ collarbone. She locked in a straightjacket submission but Vox was able to wiggle out and unload some elbows into Cameron’s throat. Vox tried to fishhook Cameron, but Cameron got free and booted her in the stomach.

Cameron hit a big suplex and then a shining wizard to put Vox out and pick up the victory.

-Next, Lexy Nair interviewed Red Velvet in the back. She asked Velvet why she had resorted to using a wrench to win at Final Battle. Velvet was shocked that people were questioning her tactics. Leyla Hirsch showed up and wanted answers. Why did Velvet have to cheat? Velvet said that if HIrsch wanted another shot at the title, she could have it. But it would be on Velvet’s time. Then she left.

Shane Taylor Promotions (Carlie Bravo, Lee Moriarty, Shane Taylor & Shawn Dean) (w/Trish Adora) defeated Iron Savages (Beefcake Boulder & Bulk Bronson) & The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds & Evil Uno) (w/Jacked Jameson & John Silver)

STP are THE faction in ROH and it shouldn’t be far into 2025 that we see them challenging for and winning some serious gold. For now though, they count the ROH Pure champion Moriarty in their company along with a more aggressive and scary Infantry. The Savages and Dark Order are beef-filled opponents, but each team has been kind of in limbo recently. Whoever wins this should find themselves pretty high on the list for tag team title shots.

STP had the advantage in that they were a single unit taking on two teams who haven’t teamed together. As teams. Anyway, Reynolds and Moriarty kicked things off and they were perfect for each other. A series of fast and technical moves followed, until Moriarty stopped to pose. Boulder and Bravo tagged in next and it was the opposite: Power and more power. Boulder brought in Bronson and the two took Bravo to Titty City (look it it up. No, wait actually, don’t).

Adora got up on the apron to distract the Ref and Bravo delivered a kneed to Bronson’s head on the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring). Taylor tagged in and the big men rumbled, with he and Bronson trading shots in the corner. Uno jumped in to save Bronson from getting pinned to a great ovation.

Uno and Moriarty squared off in the ring in a high speed exchange that reminded everyone that Uno is very good at wrestling. He ended with a huge Brainbuster, but it only got a two count. Boulder tagged in and hit a double DDT on Dean and Bravo who were in the ring for some reason. That brought in Taylor to face off against Boulder.

They hit each other very hard for a few seconds before Boulder lifted Taylor and powerslammed him! He then used his partner as a weapon and slammed him on Taylor, but it only got a two count. Reynolds and Moriarty became legal again and Moriarty lured him to the outside for a Border City Stretch. In the ring, Uno got caught by Adora and left at the mercy of Dean, Bravo and Taylor. They beat on Uno and Moriarty appeared to put him in a Border City Stretch, forcing Uno to tap out.

ROH Classic Match: ROH Women’s World Title Match: Athena (c) vs Willow Nightingale (Death Before Dishonor 2023, July 21, 2023)

A replay of Lexy Nair’s expulsion from MIT by ROH Women’s World Champion Athena was shown next. This led into the showing of the Women’s World Title match from Death Before Dishonor 2023. Athena had alread been a long-term champion by this time and Nightingale had just come off winning the Owen Hart Foundation 2023 Women’s Tournament in AEW. Both were fired up and it’s a great match!

ROH World Television Title Proving Ground Match: Komander (c) vs. QT Marshall – Time Limit Draw (10:00)

In this first Proving Ground Match of the new year, Marshall must pin or submit Komander or last the 10 minute time limit. If he can do one of those things, Marshall will get a shot at Komander’s ROH World TV Title, acquired at Final Battle in a six-man Survival of The Fittest Match. Marshall had a match against Jay Lethal that I’m still unable to find a reason for. Anyway, this one looked to be a good one!

“QT Sucks” chants broke out from the crowd and he stepped outside to really soak them in. When Marshall got back in the ring, Komander ran at him and Marshall slide out of the ring. At this point, it became clear that Marshall’s strategy was to slow everything down and waste as much time as possible to reach the 10-minute time limit, which I have to admit, is pretty smart.

Komander goaded Marshall into some wrestling and the two traded moves back and forth. Every time Komander would pick up the pace, Marshall would respond with something that slowed it right back down. That allowed Marshall to utilize his size advantage on the smaller Komander.

Marshall methodically kept Komander off his feet, milking the clock with submission holds, power moves and even working the crowd. Komander managed to turn a suplex attempt into a sleeper hold, but Marshall backed him into the corner. Komander hit a facebuster off the ropes and the match sped up significantly.

Komander went to the top rope for a running shooting star press, but Marshall caught him with an uppercut and suplex powerbomb for a two count. That ground things back to a halt as the time ticked away. Marshall set up Komander for a super diamond cutter, but Komander reversed it and sent Marshall to the outside. Komander hit a springboard mexican destroyer and then went to the top rope.

Komander set up and executed his signature running shooting star press, but Marshall rolled to the outside… just as the 10 minute time limit elapsed! I cannot stress how rare it is for a Proving Ground Match to go to time and a challenger win. Fantastic work by Marshall and Komander and a great way to end the first show of the year!

Ring of Honor Boxing Day Brawl live results: Men’s TV title defense, Toni Storm debuts

Thursday’s Ring of Honor TV will be a special Boxing Day Brawl edition featuring a men’s TV title defense and the promotional debut of former AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm.

After winning the gold for the first time in last Friday’s Survival of the Fittest six-way, Komander will put the men’s TV title on the line against Johnny TV.

Storm will be in action against Rebecca Scott in Storm’s first-ever match for the black and red brand.

Rocky Romero will team up with a mystery partner with some ROH history against QT Marshall & Aaron Solo.

Former ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata will team with Tommy Billington against Ariya Daivari & Tony Nese of the Premier Athletes.

Lee Johnson will return to singles action as he faces Serpentico while former GCW Champion Blake Christian goes one-on-one with AR Fox.

The show is rounded out by MxM Collection (Mansoor & Madden) against Northeast standouts Miracle Generation (Dustin Waller & Kylon King).

**********

Blake Christian defeated AR Fox

Christian and Fox looked to continue where they left off from the Survival of the Fittest match from ROH Final Battle. Christian refused the Code of Honor, shoving Fox. Fox hit a leg lariat as Christian hit the ropes. Fox hit a springboard stunner and a running shooting star press off the apron. Christian dodged a corner charge and hit a Mafia kick in the corner before hitting a missile dropkick. Christian hit a 180 tope suicida to the floor on Fox, which looked incredible.

Fox had a brief comeback with an enziguri, but Christian cut him off again before going for a running boot on the floor. Fox, however, rushed into the ring and hit a suicide dive to the floor on Christian before hitting a Senton Bomb for a two count. Christian raked the eyes to avoid a backpack cutter, and hit a standing Spanish Fly for the two count. Christian argued with the referee over a chair being introduced to the match, and Fox hit a huge dive to the floor and a 450 Splash. Fox grabbed the chair after Christian kicked out, and the referee took it away from him, but Christian hit Fox with a low blow and hit a curb stomp on Fox for the win. Really good match to open the show.

Lee Johnson (w/ EJ Nduka) defeated Serpentico

Johnson was not taking Serpentico seriously at the start of the match, hitting a drop toe hold and slapping Serpentico’s head. Serpentico did hit an armdrag, but Johnson hit a dropkick soon thereafter. Johnson got the heat for the next few minutes, but occasionally fell victim to a roll up which he kicked out of quickly. Serpentico rolled through a roll up, hit a superkick, and then a running cutter for a two count. Serpentico was soon cut off by a chokeslam from Nduka from behind the back, allowing Johnson getting the win.

A hype video aired for Shane Taylor Promotions, with Taylor cutting a promo against the people that have dismissed them, saying that they were coming for everything in ROH, and that there was nothing anyone could do about it. This was good.

Tommy Billington & Katsuyori Shibata defeated The Premier Atheltes (Ariya Daivari & Tony Nese) (w/ Smart Mark Sterling & Josh Woods)

Billington and Shibata are now teaming after their one on one match at ROH Final Battle. Billington took it to Nese right away, sending him bouncing all over the ring, ending when he hit a missile dropkick and tagged out to Shibata. Nese’s selling made both guys look dangerous until it was time for him to get the heat on Billington after a distraction from Daivari.

Woods and Sterling attacked Billington on the floor behind the back of the referee. Nese tried to hit a move off the middle rope, but Billington hit a dropkick and tagged out to Shibata, who hit a German suplex on Daivari before tagging out to Billington. Nese ran in and superkicked Shibata, and Billington almost got the submission on Billington but Sterling distracted the referee while Woods yanked Billington off Daivari. Nese hit a 450 splash on Billington, but knocked Billington backwards into his own corner, letting Shibata tag in.

Shibata proceeded to nail Daivari with a Mafia kick in the corner. Billington flew off the ropes with a diving DDT, and Shibata hit a PK for the win.

A hype video aired for The Outrunners, as they promoted their Fanny Pack merch, including how it could hold a second fanny pack, among other things. This was great.

Toni Storm defeated Rebecca Scott

Storm got a superstar pop coming out, and it seems this weird amnesia gimmick has hurt her star power with the audience. Storm hit a basement dropkick after changing directions while running the ropes, but missed the corner hip attack. Scott hit a flying knee in the corner on Storm. Storm reversed an Irish whip, and Scott jumped onto the middle rope before jumping backwards into the arms of Storm. Storm hit a backbreaker, the corner hip attack, and a Storm Zero for the pinfall.

Retro ROH: Nigel McGuinness defeated Colt Cabana in a Soccer Riot Match at ROH Night of Grudges II (August 20, 2005)

Cabana set the rules, which largely meant there were no rules, as that would be an advantage to him. They actually shared the whole match, which included a funny spot when McGuinness tried to kick the soccer ball at Colt, who was seated in the corner. McGuinness missed and sent it into the crowd, causing the fans to yell “Throw it back!” Cabana grabbed the ball and threw it at the face of McGuiness. Nigel sent Cabana crashing through a ringside table after hitting him with an iron. Cabana pulled his own iron out from under the ring and hit McGuiness with it before hitting a lariat for the win. They actually aired the full match, which is not a bad thing to do sometimes for fans watching. I am not sure if this is a frequent feature, but if it is, I think it’s smart to do every now and then.

The Rottweilers (Rocky Romero & Homicide) defeated QT Marshall & Aaron Solo

Homicide’s return to ROH got a huge pop from the New York audience. The Rottweilers are back together for at least one night, speaking of an ROH flashback. Homicide started the match with QT Marshall, and Marshall was hilariously looking at Homicide very unsure about his own safety before they locked up. Marshall’s suspicions were right, as Homicide bit his ear.

Romero tagged in, and Marshall exited the ring very quickly, tagging out to Solo. Romero low bridged Solo and Romero went for a dive, but Marshall tripped Romero, and Solo hit a flying kick on Romero to begin getting the heat. Romero hit a Shiranaui and tagged out to Homicide, and Homicide hit the three amigos suplexes on Solo. Homicide hit a belly to belly on Solo, but Marshall broke up the pinfall and hit a combo back suplex/neckbreaker on Homicide for a 2-count.

Homicide went for the Cop Killa on Solo, but Marshall broke it up. Romero threw Marshall to the floor and hit a suicide dive that sent Marshall crashing into the front row. Homicide then hit a big lariat on Solo for the win. This was fun. I love seeing Homicide back in ROH. He isn’t what he was, but he is still great. Homicide kissed the canvas, indicating he was home.

A recap of Atlantis Jr. beating Mansoor from ROH Final Battle aired. Mason Madden cut a promo on Danhausen about how he ruined their match. Mansoor called Atlantis a nepo baby, claiming (correctly) that his father Atlantis and (incorrectly) mother Atlantis Morissette were why he had success in the business. They then declared war on all masked wrestlers.

MxM Connection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) defeated Dustin Waller & Kylon King

Mansoor and Madden beat on Waller throughout the early part of the match, with Madden not removing his sunglasses. King broke up the pinfall attempt of Mansoor on Waller after a spinebuster, and Mansoor chased King around the ring, letting Waller and King get some very brief offense against Mansoor. Mansoor tagged out and the huge Madden ran wild hitting a big flying knee on Waller, and slammed King to the mat. Madden had an idea, saying “Let’s kill him!” as they hit a combo where Mansoor elevated Waller into a double arm DDT by Madden for the win.

Chris Jericho’s New York Minute re-aired from AEW Dynamite.

A recap of the ROH Final Battle match between Matt Cardona & Chris Jericho, and Athena’s defeat of Billie Starks.

At the post show media scrum Athena promised to kick out someone out of the Minions In Training.

Lexy Nair introduced Billie Starks as the loser of the main event for the Minion Expulsion. Athena said that Starks caused nothing but problems for her, and that she sucked because she wouldn’t listen to Athena’s guidance. Athena put over how Nair has lived up to all her expectations. Athena then expelled Nair from the MIT for failing to wear a Penguin costume to match Athena’s Two-Face costume, claimed her intro of Athena was mediocre, and how she almost cost Athena the match.

Athena claimed that Nair was the stepping stone for Billie, and that it was those two forever, because Athena cared about Billie Starks and her success. Athena hugged Starks, and Starks looked very conflicted and unhappy about how all of this went down.

Komander was shown arriving backstage after his title victory at ROH Final Battle, crying as he hugged Tony Khan and celebrated in the biggest win of his career in ROH. A nice moment of real emotion.

ROH Television Champion Komander (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated Johnny TV (w/ MxM Collection) to retain

MxM Collection made their way into one of the balconies, holding a sign that said “If Johnny TV loses, we’ll be really sad” and tried to lead the crowd in chants for Johnny TV. Johnny TV spending years working lucha has paid off here, with him being able to provide a good base for Komander. TV knocked Komander off balance as he ran up the ropes, and hit a backflip Samoan drop and a running shooting star press for a two count.

TV hit a knee to the face of Komander for a two count. TV locked on a dragon sleeper, but Komander got into the ropes to escape. Komander avoided a suicide dive, but TV adjusted and followed Komander as he dodged and hit a dive through the ropes on the other side of the ring. That was cool. Komander blocked a corner charge, hitting a superkick and running across the ropes, bouncing off them and landing on the apron before running back up the ropes and hitting a flying dragonrana on TV for a two count.

Komander hit a Canadian Destroyer on Johnny TV for another near fall. TV hit two rolling neckbreakers on Komander for a two count of his own. MxM Collection exited the balcony by ducking down in an elevator pose as soon as Johnny started looking in trouble, and Komander hit a poisonrana. Komander hit a senton, and went for his rope walk into a shooting star press, but MxM Collection pulled TV from the ring. Komander adjusted and hit a moonsault onto everyone on the floor, but Johnny TV managed to cut him off and go for Starship Pain. Komander dodged and hit his shooting star press for the win. Fun match and main event to a very easy to watch episode of ROH Wrestling.

ROH Final Battle media scrum notes: Athena, Komander, Tony Khan talk to press

ROH Champions talked to the press following Friday’s Final Battle event.

Red Velvet, Komander, Lee Moriarty, Athena, and Tony Khan all spoke to the media following the event at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Here are the highlights:

ROH Women’s Television Champion Red Velvet

  • When asked who she’d like to face next, Red Velvet called out Mercedes Mone. Tony Khan brought up wrestlers from Stardom as potential opponents as well.

New ROH Television Champion Komander

  • Thanked everyone who stood behind him and deep down, that is what keeps him going.
  • When asked about ‘stealing the show’, Komander said that everyone works hard in ROH and AEW.
  • In his world, he says that he gives back everything he is given. He says he was a premature baby and almost died twice, so he has to keep going and help others. He said he would never give up and keep trying.
  • Tony Khan brought up the potential of a match between Komander and former TV Champion Atlantis Jr.

ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty

  • Moriarty said that wrestling Nigel McGuiness at Final Battle was a surreal moment, saying he never expected it to happen.
  • One person asked which ROH legend is next for him. Moriarty said it was hard to say but he’s had opportunities to wrestle Bryan Danielson, Katsuyori Shibata, and Adam Copeland so it’s something that he doesn’t take for granted.
  • He may have a potential solo show in the future for his artwork.

ROH Women’s Champion Athena

  • Athena said she is looking forward to going to Japan for Wrestle Dynasty and may spend a little more time in Japan after the event.
  • Promoting the Boxing Day edition of ROH, Athena teased a member of her minions group may be expelled. Earlier in the interview, she praised Red Velvet for the way she retained the ROH Women’s Television title.

Tony Khan

  • Khan mentioned this was the first time he’s been to the Hammerstein Ballroom and would love to come back for future events.
  • When Bandido’s name was brought up, Khan said that he originally wanted Bandido when he launched AEW in 2019, but instead he made the choice to sign with ROH. Khan said he has since become a great asset to both ROH and AEW.
  • Mike Johnson of PWInsider asked about a television deal for ROH, asking Khan where they were in the yard line. Khan said that they’ve had a lot of great conversations regarding a potential ROH television deal. He pushed the simulcast of AEW Fight for the Fallen Dynamite before saying that he couldn’t say where a deal would be on a proverbial yard line.

Komander wins Television title at ROH Final Battle

Komander is a champion in ROH.

The Continental Classic participant won the title for the first time at Friday’s Final Battle event at the Hammerstein Ballroom. A new champion became inevitable in the Survival of the Fittest six-man elimination match when Mark Davis pinned Brian Cage towards the end of the match after AR Fox and Willie Mack had been eliminated. Davis was quickly pinned by Blake Christian, leaving the match between him and Komander. After some strong back and forth, it was Komander who won the match after hitting a ropewalk shooting star press.

Announcers mentioned that it was at last year’s Final Battle that Komander came close to winning that Survival of the Fittest match, but ended up being pinned last thanks to Kyle Fletcher, who became the new champion.

Komander currently is part of the AEW Continental Classic, where he has yet to win a match in the Gold League. On the taped episode of Rampage that aired Friday, he lost to Brody King. He’s next set to face Claudio Castagnoli on this Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Six-way men’s TV title match set for Ring of Honor Final Battle

Brian Cage will defend the Ring of Honor men’s TV title at next Friday’s Final Battle in a six-way Survival of the Fittest match.

Cage will face AR Fox, Willie Mack, Mark Davis, Blake Christian and Komander in the elimination-style bout taking place at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Cage has two title defenses since winning the gold at October’s WrestleDream, coming against Fox and Komander.

Here’s the current card for the HonorClub streaming special:

  • ROH World Champion Chris Jericho defends against Matt Cardona
  • ROH Women’s World Champion Athena defends against Billie Starkz
  • ROH Tag Team Champions Sons of Texas (Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara) defend against The Righteous (Vincent & Dutch)
  • ROH women’s TV Champion Red Velvet defends against Leyla Hirsch

  • Jay Lethal vs. QT Marshall

Juice Robinson out of AEW Continental Classic, replacement announced

Image: AEW

After just one match, Juice Robinson is out of this year’s AEW Continental Classic due to a possible broken foot and a replacement has been already named.

Taking his place is Komander who, according to Tony Khan on X, “will join the field as (the) Gold League first alternate, + the upcoming schedule will be adjusted accordingly.”

In both men’s tournament debuts, Robinson took a loss to Will Ospreay last Wednesday in a match taped for last Saturday’s Collision. He was seen on crutches at this past weekend’s WrestleCade and as of Monday, he did not have the results back from an X-ray.

Assuming he simply takes the rest of Robinson’s matches, Komander will face Ricochet, Brody King, Claudio Castagnoli and Darby Allin in the weeks ahead.

The winner of both the Gold and Blue league will square off against the other league’s runner-up at this month’s Worlds End pay-per-view. The winners of those matches will face off in the Classic finals that night with the ultimate winner taking home the AEW Continental title.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Komander part of AEW Collision lineup

A matchup that didn’t seem possible a few months ago will become a reality as Shelton Benjamin will face Komander as part of this Saturday’s AEW Collision.

The Hurt Syndicate member is coming off a defeat to Swerve Strickland several weeks ago which snapped a two-match winning streak that kicked off his AEW career.

Komander will take on Rocky Romero on tonight’s edition of Rampage in hopes of ending a two-match AEW losing streak. In Ring of Honor, he’s won two straight.

Powerhouse Hobbs will be in singles action for the first time since his return earlier this month from a serious knee injury. Hobbs has aligned with Will Ospreay and Mark Davis against the Don Callis Family, but will take on Bear Bronson Saturday.

The broadcast will also feature a Full Gear preview video using Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain” which is expected to close the show.

This week’s action was taped in Albany, New York, Thursday.

Here’s the full rundown:

  • AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May defends against Anna Jay in a no DQ match
  • Full Gear four-way Tag Team title match qualifier: The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) vs. LFI (Rush & The Beast Mortos)
  • Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Bear Bronson
  • Shelton Benjamin vs. Komander
  • Mina Shirakawa vs. Harley Cameron
  • Johnny TV vs. Daniel Garcia
  • “November Rain” Full Gear promo video

AEW Rampage live spoilers from Manchester, NH

Image: Josh Nason

The following are live spoilers for this Friday’s AEW Rampage, taped following Dynamite at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH.

Rampage:

Hikaru Shida defeated Viva Van

Shida picked up the win after hitting a Falcon Arrow. This was both her first appearance and win in AEW since a mid-September episode of Rampage.

Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) defeated Dark Order (John Silver & Alex Reynolds) and The Infantry (Shawn Dean & Carlie Bravo) (w/ Shane Taylor, Lee Moriarty and Trish Adora) in a three-way

Taven and Bennett got the pin on Reynolds after hitting their double-team finisher. After the match, Brian Cage came out to distract Taven and Bennett which led to Lance Archer attacking both men from behind. The heels dealt out a beatdown and left them both laying. After a few minutes, Roderick Strong then ran out and got the advantage on both guys, leading to Bennett and Taven recovering. The faces then sent the heels packing.

This was Dean & Bravo’s first AEW appearance since a Rampage match this past June. They joined Shane Taylor Promotions on last week’s ROH TV.

Top Flight (w/ Leila Grey and Action Andretti) defeated JD Drake & Beef

Darius and Dante Martin picked up the win after hitting their combo leg sweep/DDT on Beef. All four men were shaking hands afterward when Lio Rush came out and exchanged some words with the Top Flight crew.

Lio Rush defeated Komander (w/ Alex Abrahantes)

This was a rematch from their late-October bout that Komander won. This was fine, but the crowd had mainly left by the time this started which didn’t help. There were lots of near falls near the end, but the end came when Rush hit his rope-assisted stunner and frog splash to get the win. Afterward, Rush shook Komander’s hand and showed respect.

Afterward, Taven and Bennett (both New England locals with Taven hailing originally from Derry which is 15 minutes away from Manchester) came back out to send the crowd home happy.

Pre-show dark matches:

  • Satnam Singh (w/ Jay Lethal) defeated Colt Cabana
  • Nyla Rose defeated Lydia

Ring of Honor (pre-show):

  • Katsuyori Shibata defeated The Butcher

Notes:

  • A healthy amount of fans left before the taping started at 10:15 PM, just a few minutes after Dynamite ended. The exodus continued throughout the taping and was very quiet for the Rush vs. Komander rematch. None of the Rampage matches were announced to the crowd to entice them to stay.

Lio Rush vs. Komander rematch part of AEW Rampage lineup

Image: AEW

A high-flying rematch, a three-way tag team bout, the return of a former AEW Women’s Champion, and a tag team contest are set for this Friday’s AEW Rampage.

After the two battled on the October 30th Rampage, Lio Rush (seen above) and Komander will go one-on-one again in a rematch. Komander picked up the win that night and Rush will be looking to even the score.

Rush’s allies in Top Flight will battle the reluctant duo of JD Drake and Beef in tag team action.

A three-way tag team match will see the Undisputed Kingdom’s Matt Taven and Mike Bennett take on Dark Order’s John Silver and Alex Reynolds, and new Shane Taylor Promotions duo The Infantry.

For the first time since September, former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida will make her return as she battles Viva Van.

Here’s the full lineup, taped Wednesday after Dynamite in Manchester, NH:

  • Lio Rush vs. Komander II
  • Hikaru Shida vs. Viva Van
  • Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) vs. Dark Order (John Silver & Alex Reynolds) (w/ Evil Uno) vs. The Infantry (Shawn Dean & Carlie Bravo) in a three-way
  • Top Flight (Darius & Dante Martin) vs. JD Drake & Beef
