Tony Khan: Jack Perry remains ‘suspended indefinitely’ from AEW

It’s not clear when Jack Perry could return to AEW.

Tony Khan confirmed at the All Out media scrum that Perry remains suspended indefinitely from the promotion following an investigation into the backstage altercation he had with CM Punk at All In.

“He’s been suspended indefinitely,” Khan responded when asked about Perry’s punishment stemming from the incident.

“I think we’ve suspended everybody in that investigation and then took further action after that based on what happened and came out of the investigation. But as for Jack, we suspended Jack as a participant in an incident backstage and Jack hasn’t been around. That’s all I can say about it but, at the time, we did suspend him and he hasn’t been at AEW since AEW All In backstage in London.”

The Perry/Punk altercation was addressed in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The issue contains an account of the incident from an eyewitness described as a neutral party.

Our own Dave Meltzer wrote:

Another version, and this would be a neutral source who was not a wrestler but was there and witnessed it and his version was that right after Perry came to the back, Punk went nose-to-nose with him aggressively and asked him if he had a problem. That person said Perry said he was just looking to get heat as a heel. Punk shoved him hard, Perry got in his face and in that version Punk sucker punched him and went for a choke.

Perry is an AEW original, having signed with the promotion in January 2019 and debuted at the inaugural show, Double or Nothing on May 25, 2019. That year he was voted “Rookie of the Year” in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards.

Report: CM Punk, Jungle Boy had issue over desired use of glass on AEW Collision

This story was updated at 8:30 PM Eastern.

A new report emerged Tuesday regarding a discussion/argument between CM Punk and “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry on a past AEW Collision.

Fightful reported that Perry was brought into one of the four Collision episodes filmed in Canada over late-June/July to film a segment that contained a spot which Perry wanted to use real glass for. They did not report what the purpose of the segment was.

As the stories have gone the past few days with Punk’s power on the Saturday night show, there are sides.

According to the report, Punk felt Perry was throwing a “temper tantrum” over his desired use of real glass, despite production, doctors and Tony Schiavone recommending otherwise. Punk reportedly felt Perry was trying to avoid having to work the next week “which he sees as a big problem in the company.”

Perry wasn’t happy with the decision and further guidelines were put into place for talent. It’s not apparent if this was the impetus for those changes or one of several reasons.

“Punk’s claim was that he was asked to step in and calmly said that they don’t do that on Saturdays (for Collision) and if he doesn’t like it, he could stay on Wednesdays,” the report stated, adding that it was referred to as “an argument” by those in the locker room.

Bryan Alvarez wrote in the afternoon that he had heard the story and thought something might have got lost in translation.

“Jungle Boy had a vacation planned. He wanted to do a pre-taped angle with a car to write him off TV for that week. Punk told him no. He felt it was too dangerous to do a broken glass spot and said they cared about safety. Jungle was upset about that. That is very different from the story that Jack wanted to do a dangerous spot as a way to avoid having to go to work,” he wrote.

There has been an increase of discussion this week surrounding Punk and both his control on Collision and overall power in the company following reporting that he had several talents and an executive unbooked/taken off the show including Hangman Page, Matt Hardy, Ryan Nemeth, head of talent relations Christopher Daniels and Isiah Kassidy.

With Page, a PWInsider report Tuesday cited several AEW sources as saying there was always a plan to have Page film a promo Saturday away from the building which had nothing to do with Punk.

Punk happened to mention Page in an off-air promo after the show ended that he later apologized to Page for via text.

Hook vs. Jungle Boy FTW title match added to AEW Dynamite

After “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry turned on Hook at last month’s Forbidden Door, the FTW Champion has been trying to get his hands on Perry, albeit unsuccessfully.

That will change on this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite from Boston as Hook will defend his title against Perry in their first-ever singles clash.

Perry has evaded Hook the past few weeks by escaping into, and through, cars. On Friday’s Rampage, Hook issued the challenge to Perry in a pre-taped promo.

Hook, who has held the title for nearly a year, will be gunning for his eighth title defense while Perry is looking for his first AEW singles title of any kind.

The new addition to the show joins the already-announced Blood & Guts double cage match and the finals of the AEW Blind Eliminator tag team tournament.

Here’s the current card:

  • The Golden Elite (Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Young Bucks & Hangman Page) vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli), Konosuke Takeshita and PAC in a Blood & Guts match
  • MJF & Adam Cole vs. Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia in the Blind Eliminator tag team tournament finals
  • FTW Champion Hook defends against Jack Perry

Jungle Boy segment announced for AEW Dynamite

Following his heel turn at Forbidden Door, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry is set to appear on Dynamite.

AEW has announced that we’ll hear from Perry on Dynamite this Wednesday. Perry turned heel when he attacked his former tag team partner Hook at Forbidden Door.

Perry was unsuccessful in his attempt to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from SANADA at Sunday’s pay-per-view. After the loss, Perry and Hook headed back up the ramp. Hook raised Perry’s arm in the air, but Perry then shockingly dropped Hook with a lariat.

When Renee Young tried to interview him about the turn, Perry refused to comment. Perry said Young could tune in on Wednesday like everyone else.

Wednesday’s Dynamite is taking place at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Here’s what’s been announced for the episode:

  • The fallout from Forbidden Door
  • Tornado tag team match: Sting & Darby Allin vs. “The Painmaker” Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara
  • Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament first-round match: Britt Baker vs. Ruby Soho
  • We’ll hear from “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry

MJF to make first appearance on AEW Rampage

AEW World Champion MJF will make his first-ever appearance on Rampage this Friday.

He will defend the title against Hiroshi Tanahashi in their first-ever meeting at Sunday’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door and will team with Adam Cole in the upcoming AEW Tag Team title eliminator tournament following a blind draw.

Adam Cole will also be heard from as he gives his thoughts on the developments and face-off he and MJF had Wednesday.

The women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament will kick off as Anna Jay A.S. takes on Skye Blue in the first of four quarterfinal matches.

Ahead of his challenge of NJPW World Champion SANADA on Sunday, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry will face SANADA’s stablemate Douki.

In an eight-man tag team match, CHAOS (Rocky Romero, Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta & Yoh) will take on United Empire (Will Ospreay, Kyle Fletcher & Jeff Cobb) and Swerve Strickland.

Former AEW Tag Team Champions The Acclaimed will be in action against opponents to be named.

  • Adam Cole appearance
  • Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament quarterfinal: Anna Jay A.S. vs. Skye Blue
  • CHAOS (Rocky Romero, Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta & Yoh) vs. United Empire (Will Ospreay, Kyle Fletcher & Jeff Cobb) and Swerve Strickland
  • Jack Perry vs. Douki
  • The Acclaimed in action

MJF promo, Texas Tornado match announced for AEW Dynamite

AEW World Champion MJF will be on this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in his first live promo since last Sunday’s Double or Nothing.

MJF successfully defended the title at the PPV in a four-way over “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry, Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara, and appeared in a taped promo last Wednesday.

Speaking of Perry, he and FTW Champion Hook (JungleHook) will reunite for a Texas Tornado tag team match against LFI’s Dralistico & Preston Vance. While Hook was in the ring with Tony Schiavone Wednesday, LFI interrupted and as they were about to attack, Perry ran out to back Hook up.

The match and promo join a lineup headlined by Orange Cassidy defending his AEW International title against Swerve Strickland.

Here’s the current lineup for Colorado Springs, Colorado:

  • AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy defends against Swerve Strickland
  • Jay White vs. Ricky Starks [Juice Robinson & FTR banned from ringside]
  • MJF promo
  • JungleHook (Jack Perry & Hook) vs. Preston Vance & Dralistico in a Texas Tornado match

Four-way World Championship match set for AEW Double or Nothing

The main event for Double or Nothing is official.

Darby Allin and Jungle Boy Jack Perry won their tag team match on Dynamite against MJF and Sammy Guevara on Wednesday. The stipulation had been if they won, they would be added to the MJF/Guevara match at Double or Nothing on May 28 in Las Vegas. The finish of the match had MJF and Guevara turn on each other after an argument. Jungle Boy used the opportunity to lay out Guevara. Without realizing it, Perry was then tagged out by Allin, who hit the coffin drop and pinned Guevara to win the match for his team.

MJF previously announced a tournament would take place where the winner would face him at Double or Nothing. He and Guevara formed a partnership, helping Guevara defeat Jungle Boy and Allin in order to win the tournament. However, after Guevara defeated Allin by disqualification, Tony Schiavone informed MJF last week that Tony Khan had made a match for this week, a tag match where if Allin and Perry won, they would be added to the match.

Here is what is confirmed so far for Double or Nothing:

  • AEW World Championship: MJF defends against Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy Jack Perry, and Sammy Guevara
