Mike Bailey vs. Jonathan Gresham rematch set for Impact Sacrifice

Two of the most talented wrestlers in the business will rematch at next Friday’s Impact Sacrifice as “Speedball” Mike Bailey will take on Jonathan Gresham.

After the two teamed up to beat Decay on Thursday, Gresham caught up with Bailey backstage and in their conversation, Bailey said he didn’t forget Gresham got the win in their first clash and challenged him to a second meeting.

They first met in Impact at last month’s No Surrender with Gresham picking up the victory.

In another rematch, Digital Media Champion Joe Hendry will defend against former champion Brian Myers.

Hendry approached Santino Marella Thursday to invoke Myers’ rematch clause for him as he wanted to gain a measure of revenge for Myers’ recent actions against him.

Hendry defeated Myers for the title last October and has defended the title six times since then.

Here’s the current lineup for the Friday, March 24th streaming special from Windsor, Ontario, California:

  • Impact World Champion Josh Alexander, Rich Swann & Frankie Kazarian vs. Time Machine (KUSHIDA & Motor City Machine Guns)
  • Impact Knockouts Champion Mickie James defends against Jordynne Grace
  • X-Division Champion Trey Miguel defends against TBA
  • Impact Tag Team Champions Bullet Club defend against TMDK
  • Digital Media Champion Joe Hendry defends against Brian Myers
  • Tommy Dreamer vs. Bully Ray Busted Open match
  • Deonna Purrazzo vs. Gisele Shaw
  • Mike Bailey vs. Jonathan Gresham

Knockouts title match, Gresham vs. KUSHIDA set for next Impact

After successfully defending the Impact Knockouts title at No Surrender, Mickie James will have her next challenge on next Thursday’s Impact on AXS TV.

Made during Thursday’s show, James will defend the gold against past title challenger Gisele Shaw. James was in the process of addressing past champion Jordynne Grace’s comments when Shaw emerged and said James was ducking her. After James challenged her for a match tonight, Shaw backed down and Gail Jim then made the match for next week.

In a clash of two high-impact veterans, former ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham will take on former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion KUSHIDA for the first time since 2018.

The show will also see Callihan of The Design against Rhino. This was made Thursday after Rhino attempted to help Callihan from Deaner’s group which didn’t go over well.

Here’s the current lineup:

  • Knockouts Champion Mickie James defends against Gisele Shaw
  • Jonathan Gresham vs. KUSHIDA
  • Callihan vs. Rhino

‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey vs. Jonathan Gresham set for Impact No Surrender pre-show

Impact has confirmed a new match for the Countdown to No Surrender.

“Speedball” Mike Bailey vs. Jonathan Gresham is now official for the show.

Gresham and Bailey have faced each other several times for multiple promotions. Most recently, they split two singles matches in GCW with Gresham winning at Moment of Clarity and Bailey avenging the loss at GCW Aura. Bailey defeated Gresham at a CZW show in 2015 and a C4 show in 2016 as well.

Jonathan Gresham signs contract with Impact Wrestling

Former Ring of Honor World Champion Jonathan Gresham has signed a contract with Impact Wrestling and already has a former ROH Champion in his sights.

Gresham returned on Thursday’s AXS show to back up Delirious after Eddie Edwards was working to remove his mask after defeating him. Edwards rolled out of the ring and the two exchanged words as Edwards walked up the ramp.

It was later announced that Gresham had signed a deal (terms undisclosed) and that he will face Edwards at Hard to Kill on Friday, January 13th.

Then-ROH World Champion Gresham made his in-ring debut for Impact at this past January’s Hard to Kill, defeating Chris Sabin in a Pure rules match. He spent three months in the promotion, going 5-0 before wrapping up in March.

He and Edwards were originally set to wrestle earlier this year during the early development of the Honor No More faction that Gresham was at odds with. However, that match never happened.

The two have wrestled in a singles match once before, back in 2016 for a Rhode Island indie promotion.

Jonathan Gresham asks for AEW/ROH release, reportedly ‘cussed out’ Tony Khan

Jonathan Gresham has requested to be released from AEW/ROH.

As was first reported by Fightful, Gresham requested to be released from his AEW/ROH contract on Saturday. The request was made prior to ROH’s Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view.

We have confirmed that Gresham asked for his release.

Gresham lost the ROH World Championship to Claudio Castagnoli in the opening match of the Death Before Dishonor main card. Fightful wrote that they were told “there was a lack of communication between the company and Gresham leading up to the weekend, and Gresham was said to have felt disrespected by this. Among other things, we learned that the lack of time for the world title match was a tipping point as well.”

FIghtful noted that Gresham finally met with Tony Khan before Death Before Dishonor and “was said to have communicated the frustration that led to him ‘cussing out’ Khan.”

Gresham was ROH World Champion when the promotion was purchased by Khan this March. Gresham signed a contract with AEW/ROH in April.

Fightful wrote that they were told from Gresham’s side of things that he’s done with wrestling for the foreseeable future after this month. Gresham is scheduled to be part of the card for Ric Flair’s Last Match on Sunday, July 31, facing Nick Wayne, Alan Angels, and Konosuke Takeshita in a four-way match.

Gresham has had four matches on AEW programming, wrestling at Battle of the Belts II and on AEW Rampage and AEW Dark. He faced Bandido at April’s ROH Supercard of Honor PPV and Castagnoli at Death Before Dishonor.

Gresham deactivated his Twitter account after Death Before Dishonor.

Claudio Castagnoli wins ROH World title at Death Before Dishonor

Claudio Castagnoli is the ROH World Champion.

Castagnoli defeated Jonathan Gresham to win the title for the first time in the opening match of Saturday’s Death Before Dishonor. The finish came when Castagnoli pinned Gresham with the Ricola bomb. After the match, confetti fell as Castagnoli celebrated his first world title win.

During the Death Before Dishonor Zero Hour pre-show, Prince Nana revealed that he had bought Tully Blanchard Enterprises and was in Gresham’s corner during the match. However, he didn’t interfere.

Gresham had been champion for 225 days, defeating Jay Lethal for the vacant title at ROH Final Battle back in December. He was originally set to face Bandido, but Bandido was unable to make the show due to testing positive for COVID. Gresham, who carried the original ROH World title, and Bandido, who carried the most recent ROH World title design, met to unify both titles at ROH Supercard of Honor in April. Gresham defeated Bandido for both titles.

ROH champions part of 14-match AEW Dark lineup

AEW has announced 14 matches for Dark.

Following Tuesday’s edition of the show, there will be a Countdown to ROH Death Before Dishonor airing immediately after.

Several ROH wrestlers are set to be featured on Dark this week as well. Jay Lethal, ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham, Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta, and ROH Women’s World Champion Mercedes Martinez will all be in action.

Serena Deeb and Daniel Garcia will both challenge for titles at Death Before Dishonor and both will also be in singles matches this week on Dark.

Seven of the matches for Dark this week were filmed on June 11 from Orlando’s Universal Studios and another seven were taped on July 16 from the same venue.

Jonathan Gresham vs. Claudio Castagnoli set for ROH Death Before Dishonor

A match for the ROH World Championship has been added to Death Before Dishonor

Jonathan Gresham will defend the title against Claudio Castagnoli following the events of tonight’s AEW Rampage. After Gresham had successfully defended the ROH World title against Lee Moriarty, Gresham cut a promo saying for now on he would be appearing on AEW television every week as he is the best technical wrestler in the world. This resulted in Castagnoli coming out, with the two having a staredown.

Gresham turned on Moriarty last week on Rampage, aligning himself with Tully Blanchard and Tully Blanchard Enterprises. His last title defense was at Battle of the Belts II in April, where he successfully defended against Dalton Castle.

Here’s the updated lineup for Death Before Dishonor, which takes place July 23:

  • ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham defends against Claudio Castagnoli
  • Two-out-of-three falls match: ROH Tag Team Champions FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) defends against The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe)
  • ROH Women’s World Champion Mercedes Martinez defends against Serena Deeb
  • ROH Television Champion Samoa Joe defends against Jay Lethal
  • ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta defends against Daniel Garcia

Jonathan Gresham & Lee Moriarty vs. The Gates of Agony set for AEW Rampage

A tag team match featuring the ROH World Champion is set for next week’s Rampage.

On tonight’s show, Jonathan Gresham was interviewed saying he was the best technical wrestler in the world, dismissing others such as Claudio Castagnoli and Bryan Danielson. He said he will prove that in a match on next week’s Rampage, when he teams with Lee Moriarty to face Tully Blanchard’s The Gates of Agony (Kaun and Toa Liona).

On last week’s Rampage, Gresham and Moriarty were interviewed about a possible match against one another when Blanchard came in saying Tully Blanchard Enterprises deserved a title shot. It was eventually agreed to that Gresham and Moriarty would face members of Blanchard’s stable sometime in the near future.

Tully Blanchard Enterprises was formed during the first ROH pay-per-view under Tony Khan, Supercard of Honor, back in April. Blanchard first managed Kaun and Toa Liona to a victory, then later introduced his other client, Brian Cage, who defeated Ninja Mack.

Jonathan Gresham off Impact Rebellion PPV, new match set

Impact Wrestling has announced a change to the card for tonight’s Rebellion pay-per-view.

Due to being unable to compete, Jonathan Gresham is out of his scheduled match against Eddie Edwards at Rebellion. Edwards vs. Chris Bey will instead take place on tonight’s show.

Edwards vs. Bey will be part of the Countdown to Rebellion pre-show tonight, which airs for free on YouTube starting at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.

Impact Wrestling wrote: “@TheJonGresham is unable to compete in his scheduled matchup with @TheEddieEdwards tonight at #Rebellion! @DashingChrisBey takes his place and it goes down on #CountdownToRebellion!”

The Influence (Tenille Dashwood & Madison Rayne) vs. The IInspiration (Cassie Lee & Jessie McKay) for the Knockouts Tag Team titles is also set for tonight’s pre-show.

Trey Miguel vs. Ace Austin vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey for the X-Division Championship has been moved to the Rebellion main card.

Gresham suffered a suspected concussion during his ROH World Championship defense against Dalton Castle at AEW Battle of the Belts II (taped on April 15), but Gresham wrestled at a show for C4 Wrestling in Canada this Friday night.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Gresham has signed a contract with AEW and will continue to perform on ROH.

Jonathan Gresham injured, pulled from PROGRESS Sunday & Monday events

Jonathan Gresham is injured.

The ROH and PROGRESS World Champion has been pulled from PROGRESS 132 on Sunday, April 17 and PROGRESS 133 on Monday, April 18.

PROGRESS announced that Kid Lykos will replace Gresham and face Chris Ridgeway on Sunday’s show.

On Sunday, they posted a video of Gresham announcing his injury to social media while saying he will be back at their May 15th event.

“Hello everyone. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it to London this weekend for the Sunday and Monday events due to an injury,” Gresham says in the video. “I have not been cleared to compete. So, I do want to apologize to PROGRESS and the fans for not being able to make it this weekend. I really wanted to but my health comes first and I have to just take a little time off. Once I’m cleared, I’ll definitely be back and I really look forward to being back and working with PROGRESS and performing for you guys. So, please keep me in your prayers, I’d really appreciate it. I’ll see you all next time and thank you for understanding.”

According to a report from Fightful, Gresham was checked out for a possible concussion following his match with Dalton Castle on Friday’s AEW Battle of the Belts II taping. It is believed he suffered the injury after taking a gutwrench suplex and landing on his shoulder and head.

Gresham is currently scheduled to face Eddie Edwards on Impact Wrestling’s live Rebellion pay-per-view this Saturday, April 23.

Report: Jonathan Gresham signs contract with AEW

Ring of Honor World Champion Jonathan Gresham has signed a contract with AEW, according to a report.

Fightful reports that Gresham, 34, has signed a contract with AEW, but will continue to perform on the ROH brand. Gresham is set for action on tonight’s AEW Battle of the Belts show, which will be taped for air on Saturday on TNT. He will defend the ROH World title against Dalton Castle at the event.

The report states that similar to Kaun and Toa Liona, Gresham’s deal is technically an AEW contract, though he remains an ROH talent.

AEW owner Tony Khan purchased Ring of Honor in a deal announced on the March 2 edition of AEW Dynamite. The first ROH show under Khan’s ownership was Supercard of Honor, held on April 1. Gresham defeated Bandido in that show’s main event to become the undisputed ROH World Champion. He captured the title originally at Final Battle last December, but Bandido had continued to stake a claim to the title after never losing it in the ring. Bandido was stripped of the title when he was unable to defend it at Final Battle due to a positive COVID-19 test. Gresham then defeated Jay Lethal to win the vacant Championship.

Jonathan Gresham crowned undisputed ROH Champion at Supercard of Honor

Jonathan Gresham defeated Bandido to become the undisputed ROH World Champion in the main event of Supercard of Honor.

Gresham pinned Bandido with a cradle to earn the undisputed title, then was immediately confronted by Jay Lethal. Sonjay Dutt entered to break the two up, but then joined Lethal in attacking Gresham. Lee Moriarty tried to save, but was taken down by Lethal and Dutt. Gresham and Moriarty were then saved by the former ROH World Champion Samoa Joe, making a surprise return to the promotion.

Joe’s signing to AEW was then announced by ROH and AEW owner Tony Khan on Twitter. Joe will make his AEW debut on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Gresham officially won the ROH World title at December’s Final Battle pay-per-view, which turned out to be the final show under the old ROH regime. Bandido held the ROH title in the leadup to that event, but a positive COVID-19 test left him unable to defend the title at the show. The company then officially stripped him of the title, and Gresham defeated Lethal for the vacant title at Final Battle.

After never losing the title in the ring, Bandido defended a version of the ROH Championship at Terminus in January, but no longer has a claim to the title after Gresham’s win.
