NWA Power results: Storm vs. Cabana National title match

Colt Cabana came out and talked about how he is getting an NWA National title shot tonight. Cabana spoke about how he is humbled by being a main eventer, but he has earned it.

Cabana said he was 100 percent and ready to go. Fantastic promo from Cabana here, which comes as no surprise. He showed a lot of old school babyface fire.

**********

Aron Stevens came out to talk about Ricky Starks. He said it was a fluke that Starks won their match, and it was just ring rust. Stevens said he has asked the NWA to give him a rematch that is much more fitting of the NWA. Time will tell what that match will be. This was a very good heel promo.

An ad aired announcing that the NWA would be a part of RetroMania Wrestling (a game I am very much looking forward to).

The Dawsons defeated Matthew Mims & Jordan Kingsley

The Dawsons threw Kingsley and Mims all around the ring, using double suplexes and hip tosses. Dave Dawson threw Kingsley across the ring into his partner’s corner and forced the tag. Dave then hit a huge dropkick on Mims, then they followed up with a double-team powerbomb that got them the win.

Dave Dawson said that he and his brother need a Tag Team title shot because they have already beaten the number one contenders. Eddie Kingston and Homicide then came out to a very big pop.

Kingston was hugely loved by the crowd. He said he wasn’t here to complain about the Dawsons beating them, as — even with the interference — it was a no DQ match. Kingston said he and Homicide would put their title shot on the line if The Dawsons will give them one more fight. The Dawsons said they would think about it.

This was so good. Kingston was the perfect babyface here, making zero excuses about the loss. The Dawsons were the perfect heels, saying they would think about it and leaving the crowd hanging. I loved this so much.

**********

Joe Galli interviewed Tim Storm about all the tough times he has gone through lately. Storm said he was in a valley. He saw his title shot as his chance to get out of the valley, and he doesn’t regret it. He said he was proud of the match he had with Nick Aldis, but he doesn’t know where he’s going from here.

Galli said the Worlds Championship isn’t in his grasp anymore, but that there are other titles. Storm said he would be honored to hold any of them, but he wasn’t sure if that was the direction he wanted. Galli asked if he could talk to Billy Corgan about getting a rematch and chance at the title again. Storm said he would keep his word, and he doesn’t know what he wants.

Aldis came over and took Storm aside and said that he shouldn’t say something he would regret, that he should never lose hope, and never give up because you never know what might happen. Aldis said that it was the two of them that built this place — and that this is Storm’s house is just as much as his.

I watched this segment three times, I loved it so much. I think Storm is turning heel at some point, and it is going to break my heart when he does. It will be so awesome. This was absolutely phenomenal storytelling. Honestly, it might be my favorite segment this entire year.

**********

Thunder Rosa defeated Ashley Vox

Thunder Rosa started the match with a sleeper hold on Vox, but Vox fell back to the ropes. Rosa chopped her and then Vox responded with a headbutt, but Rosa hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Rosa kicked Vox on the back several times and got a two count. Vox rotated around Rosa and locked on the Real Catch, but Rosa fought out and hit a double stomp from the top rope on Vox’s back for the win.

Rosa attacked Vox after the bell and Marti Belle came out to make the save. Rosa held up Vox’s limp body and offered her to Belle and left the ring.

Belle claimed that she didn’t know Rosa, but she was insulted that Allysin Kay didn’t think she was ready. She said Kay was her best friend, and to say that she wasn’t ready was wrong. Kay came out and said “What is this?” and asked why Belle didn’t come to her in private. Rosa then attacked Kay and drove her into the ring post.

Rosa offered Kay to Belle and Belle kicked Kay right in the face. Belle has turned on Kay. Rosa beckoned for Belle to follow her, and she did. This was a very good angle.

A video aired for The Question Mark again, asking who he was.

Ricky Starks defeated Aron Stevens in a two-out-of-three falls match

Stevens ran at Starks, but Starks rolled him up and pinned him in three seconds. Jim Cornette called this the fastest pinfall in NWA history.

Starks rolled him up again, but Stevens kicked out. Starks hit a dropkick and got a two count.

Starks chopped Stevens and smashed his head into the turnbuckle. Starks quoted Dickens and then chopped Stevens again. That was a great spot. As the referee was talking to Starks, Stevens poked Starks in the eye and started to work him over with punches on the mat. Cornette had a great line here, saying “I have friends in Hollywood, and they told me that Stevens was a terrible actor. He couldn’t play dead if you shot him.”

Starks fought out of a headlock and knocked Stevens down with an elbow, a clothesline, and then a tornado DDT for a two count. Starks went to the middle rope, but he missed a dropkick. Stevens bowed down and Starks rolled him up for a pinfall.

The crowd chanted at Stevens that he got beat. Stevens looked shocked after the match. I really enjoyed this, and Stevens is playing the heel really well here. Starks bowed down as Stevens left saying “No!”

**********

Colt Cabana defeated James Storm to win the NWA National Championship

Cornette made a good point before the start of this match — Eli Drake seems to be playing everyone against each other while no one has gone after him yet.

Cabana hit a shoulder tackle and then punched himself out of the corner and hit a second tackle. Cabana used some tricky — but very entertaining — comedy tactics to take down Storm. Cabana went to the middle rope and Storm kicked the legs out from Cabana and crashed into the turnbuckle. Storm then hit a DDT on Cabana, spiking him into the mat.

Storm brought Cabana back into the ring after telling Drake and Mr. Anderson to step aside. Storm jumped off the middle rope and blocked Cabana’s foot, but Cabana just used his other leg and kicked him in the face. The crowd started to stomp their feet loudly for Cabana’s comeback.

Cabana used a headscissors takedown, hit a hip attack in the corner, and drove Storm to the mat with a violent arm wringer for a two count. Storm charged at the corner, but Cabana hit a sunset flip. Storm kicked out and hit a TKO onto the top rope, then dropkicked Cabana on the floor into the crowd.

Storm hit a flying elbow, but Cabana kicked out. Storm put Cabana on the top rope, but Cabana fought out and went for a splash, Storm moved, so Cabana just hopped and hit a big splash for a two count. Cabana went for a clothesline, but Storm blocked it and hit the backstabber for a two count.

Storm managed to hit Eye of the Storm, but Cabana kicked out. Eli Drake got onto the apron to argue with the ref, but Mr. Anderson pulled Drake off the apron. Drake punched Anderson, and Kamille ran out and shoved Drake into Anderson. Anderson punched Drake and stared at Kamille. Cabana used a Superman pin and got the three count. Cabana is the new NWA National Champion.

Did Nick Aldis send Kamille out because he didn’t want to face James Storm? Storm and Anderson faced off and Storm left angry.

This was very good. The angle at the end was especially interesting. While the finish was a little anticlimactic due to all the chaos, the angle more than made up for it. What is Kamille’s motivation? What’s her angle? Excellent stuff.

The Dawsons came out and demanded to have a match now with Homicide & Kingston. They ran out and started fighting, and it looks like we have a match.

Homicide & Eddie Kingston defeated The Dawsons

The Dawsons were on the defensive early on, but once the ref got control, The Dawsons crushed Kingston between them. They got the heat on Kingston here for a little bit, tagging in and out frequently. Dave Dawson hit a chop in the corner, but Kingston responded with a headbutt. Dave poked the eye and brought him to the corner, but Kingston fought out and tried to crawl toward Homicide.

Dave signaled that Zane Dawson should come in and shove Homicide off the apron. The Dawsons hit a double suplex on Kingston, but Homicide made the save. Zane ate an elbow from Kingston and he hit an STO on Zane and tagged out. Homicide ran wild and started clotheslining both men in the corner.

Homicide ducked under Dave and he crashed into his own partner. Homicide dropkicked Dave and he fell off the apron and into The Wild Cards (Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs), who made it to ringside. The Wild Cards grabbed Homicide’s leg as he went to the top rope, but The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express came out and started brawling with them to an enormous reaction.

Meanwhile, in the ring, Kingston hit a Backfist to the Future on Dave Dawson and then Homicide hit the Gringo Cutter for the pinfall. Kingston signaled that he wanted the Tag Team titles, and the show went off the air.

This was a really, really great episode of NWA Power. It might be their best yet. The promo with Tim Storm and Nick Aldis was absolutely fantastic. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express were great, and every match had something different, even if it was a squash. I had so much fun watching this show.

VIDEO: NWA Power episode five – National title on the line

A National Championship match will headline this week’s episode of NWA Power:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRM1P8cJ8FA

The episode premieres on YouTube and Facebook at 6:05 p.m. NWA National Champion James Storm will put his title on the line against former champion Colt Cabana

Cabana got the title shot by winning a six-man tag match last week. Cabana, Mr. Anderson & Nick Aldis defeated Storm, Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs. The stipulation was that Cabana would challenge for Storm’s title if Team Aldis won. If Team Storm won, Storm would have gotten a shot at Aldis’ NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

Aldis also said Storm would have had to vacate the National title to challenge for the World title.

Also on tonight’s episode, Tim Storm will speak to Joe Galli about his future. Thunder Rosa will make her NWA Power in-ring debut against Ashley Vox, The Dawsons will be in action, and Aron Stevens will get a rematch against Ricky Starks. The NWA is teasing that Stevens has asked for a “special stipulation” this time.

NWA Power results: Team Aldis vs. Team Storm

The show opened with a recap of The Dawsons vs. Tim Storm & Eli Drake from last week.

**********

James Storm came out and asked why Nick Aldis was ducking him, and he called out Colt Cabana about how Cabana wanted to insert himself into the title picture. Cabana said he wanted Storm’s NWA National title. Eli Drake came out and said that the National title was the key to getting a shot at the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

Aldis entered and said all the things that Storm was saying must have been a result of him having too much to drink. He said Eli Drake doesn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs — his only vice is wanting to be exactly like Aldis. Aldis said “Why don’t we just get into the squared circle and settle this like men?”

Aldis suggested that they have a six-man tag. If Aldis’ team wins, Cabana gets a title shot at James Storm. If James Storm’s team wins, he gets a shot at Aldis’ NWA World title, with one condition — If Storm wants that shot, he needs to vacate the NWA National title, because to challenge for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, he needs to put it all on the line.

**********

A video recap aired of Kamille not speaking and Aldis appearing to not let her speak. Kamille refused to talk to Joe Galli several times.

**********

David Marquez interviewed Trevor Murdoch. Murdoch cut a promo saying he wanted an NWA contract. He said that he didn’t think that Jocephus should be suspended for 45 days for throwing powder into Colt Cabana’s eyes, but that he should fight Murdoch. Murdoch said he would beat anyone he had to for a contract.

Jocephus came out and attacked Murdoch from behind, and we had a match.

Trevor Murdoch defeated Jocephus

Murdoch started hitting 10 punches in the corner, but Jocephus dropped him into the top turnbuckle. As the referee was checking on Murdoch, Jocephus went for some powder in his tights. Murdoch kicked the powder from Jocephus’ hand into his own face.

Murdoch then followed with a bulldog from the middle rope for the pinfall.

**********

Aron Stevens came out and Galli reminded the crowd that Stevens didn’t want anyone to make eye contact. Stevens was getting started, but Ricky Starks came out to interrupt him. Stevens said Starks looked ridiculous, but Starks slapped him and sent him flying across the studio before saying, “You talk too much.”

**********

A recap video aired of The Wild Cards vs. Eddie Kingston & Homicide.

**********

It was announced that The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are coming to NWA Power soon.

**********

The Dawsons were out at ringside and Kingston & Homicide attacked them and started brawling. Kingston & Homicide were trying to get some revenge on the two Dawsons for interrupting their Tag Team title match against The Wild Cards.

The Dawsons defeated Eddie Kingston & Homicide in a no DQ match

Dave Dawson was in the ring with Homicide, but Zane Dawson dragged him to the floor and both teams resumed brawling around the ring as Dave targeted the hand of Kingston while Homicide tried to choke Zane with a camera cable. The Wild Cards made their way to ringside, watching the match closely.

The brawling continued, with chairs being thrown into the ring. The Dawsons hit Kingston with the chair on the outside. Homicide hit a cutter on Zane Dawson, but it only got two. Kingston’s hand was very damaged, and he continued to sell it throughout the match. The Dawsons set up two chairs in the middle and bridged a third between them. They suplexed Kingston onto the chair.

Homicide came in, but the numbers got the best of him as Zane Dawson destroyed him with a chair shot to the back. They piled a bunch of chairs in the middle of the ring on Homicide and Zane climbed the top rope.

Tom Latimer ran up to the apron and hit Zane with the belt to knock him off. Then Royce Isaacs came in and hit a Death Valley Driver on Kingston and dragged Dave Dawson onto Kingston for the pinfall.

The announcers were as confused as I was about why the Wild Cards attacked both teams, only to put Dave Dawson on Kingston for the win.

**********

Ashley Vox defeated Marti Belle

Belle talked about how Allysin Kay is her best friend, but she wants a shot at Kay’s Women’s title.

Vox out-wrestled Belle in the early portion of this match, but Belle was able to overpower her and drive a knee into her face in the corner for a two count. Belle hit two vertical suplexes and a Russian leg sweep for two, then a rolling elbow for two.

Belle went for a corner charge, but Vox dodged and hit a headbutt. Vox went for a headscissors, but Belle dodged it and went for the Pedigree on Vox. Vox fought out and went for a chicken wing, but Belle blocked it and went for the Pedigree again. Vox dropped down and rolled over into a jackknife pinfall for the three count!

Thunder Rosa came out and offered to shake Belle’s hand, but Belle left the ring.

**********

Ricky Starks defeated Aron Stevens

Stevens and Starks locked up, with Stevens hitting a snapmare and missing an elbow. Starks hit a chop and whipped Stevens into the ropes. Stevens countered with an elbow and tried to put Starks into the turnbuckle. Starks blocked it, drove Stevens into three turnbuckles, and then hit a big dropkick for one.

Starks locked on an armbar, but Stevens shoved him into the ropes. Starks stepped over the ropes and Stevens kicked the rope into Starks for a low blow before hitting a series of punches and then a Russian leg sweep.

Stevens hit an elbow on Starks. He picked Starks up and hit a very weak slap. Starks fired up and hit a series of clotheslines and a slingblade for two.

Stevens hit the ropes and Starks hit a back body drop. Starks threatened to slap Stevens and Stevens screamed in fear, so Starks rolled him up and scored the pinfall.

Stevens said “No!” — and the crowd chanted “Yes!” back at him.

**********

Team Aldis (Nick Aldis, Mr. Anderson & Colt Cabana) defeated Team Storm (James Storm & The Wild Cards)

Tom Latimer and Aldis started the match after Latimer tagged himself in. He hit the ropes and screamed “Screw you!” at Aldis, so Aldis took his head off with a clothesline and tagged out to Anderson. Anderson hit an armbreaker on Latimer. Latimer tagged out to Isaacs, but Anderson took him down and tagged out to Cabana.

Cabana came in and hit two bionic elbows on Latimer and Isaacs. He called in James Storm, but this was a mistake as he was cut off by Latimer.

Storm then tagged in and attacked Cabana. Isaacs kept Cabana in the corner and tagged out to Latimer. They continued to get the heat on Cabana for the next few minutes.

Isaacs went for a dive off the ropes, but Cabana got his foot up. Cabana made the hot tag to Anderson, who ran wild. Latimer picked up Anderson in a fireman’s carry, but Anderson fought out and hit a fireman’s carry flip. Anderson hit the Mic Check on Latimer, but Isaacs broke it up before Anderson could get a pinfall.

Aldis hit Isaacs with a dropkick. Storm hit Aldis with a codebreaker, but Aldis fell back into the ropes and they collided with a double clothesline.

Anderson tagged out to Cabana, who ate a knee from James Storm. Storm tried to superkick Cabana, but Cabana ducked and Storm hit Isaacs. Anderson clotheslined Storm over the top rope. Aldis hit a slam on Latimer and Cabana did the superman pin on Latimer for the pinfall victory! James Storm must defend his National title against Cabana.

ROH TV results: NWA National title match

Ian Riccaboni and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis called the action from the Odeum in Villa Park, Illinois

NWA National Champion Colt Cabana went to a time limit draw with James Storm

Sanctioned by the NWA with a 15-minute time limit, the fans gave this match the streamer treatment. After a couple of lock ups and semi-clean breaks, Cabana took control with some chain wrestling.

However, Storm then took over with a modified slingblade. He went for his Last Call superkick, but Cabana managed to dip out of the ring.

After the break, Cabana was working over the shoulder of Storm. Cabana was rolling until Storm used a knee as a shortcut. He dragged Cabana to the outside and landed a boot to the side of the head. Storm continued to punish Cabana with hard strikes.

Storm maintained control with a chinlock. He kept grounding Cabana with punches and kicks. He called for the Eye of the Storm, but Cabana slipped through the legs. He went to toss Storm out of the ring, but Storm skinned the cat.

Storm was caught with a headscissors by Cabana. Cabana followed that up with the Flying Apple and a springboard Superman belly flop, but only got a two count.

After another break, Storm was tossing Cabana around on the outside. Storm pulled up the black mats and exposed the concrete. Storm jawed with Aldis from ringside. That delay allowed Cabana to counter and hit a hip toss on the floor. Cabana threw Storm back into the ring, went up top, and connected with a moonsault into a pin, but Storm kicked out at two.

A striking exchange ensued and Storm managed to nail Cabana with two Last Call superkicks. He then hooked on the Texas cloverleaf in the middle of the ring. It looked like Cabana was going to have to tap, but just then, the bell rang and the match ended in a time limit draw.

Storm attempted to leave with the title, but Cabana got on the microphone and told him that he wanted five more minutes. Just as the referee was about to restart the match, The Briscoes slid in and jumped Cabana from behind as Storm left.

Jay Briscoe grabbed the microphone and reminded everyone how the NWA screwed The Briscoes at the Crockett Cup. This brought Aldis out from behind the announce booth to defend the honor of the NWA. Aldis landed some shots, but The Briscoes got the best of him and laid waste to both Aldis and Cabana.

– The second part of ROH’s Jeff Cobb interview aired. This part focused on his transition from amateur wrestler to professional. It highlighted his TV title win over Punishment Martinez. Cobb talked about how Matt Taven is going to be in trouble at Best in the World.

– Silas Young came out and entered the ring and grabbed the microphone. Young called himself the best pure wrestler in the world.

Young then called out The Squid. Young proclaimed that The Squid was trained by Lou Thesz and had defeated Billy Robinson.

Silas Young defeated The Squid

This was simply Young showcasing his superior athleticism over The Squid to mock Jonathan Gresham. He worked over The Squid rather disingenuously, outwrestling him at every step as The Squid flailed away. Young submitted the Squid with an abdominal stretch. Young kept the hold applied and lit a cigarette.

– LifeBlood’s Mark Haskins came to the ring and took the microphone to address Bully Ray. Haskins said he came to ROH to join with the best in the world, such as David Finlay, Tracy Williams, and Tenille Dashwood. Then he railed on Bully Ray for the dastardly attack of Dashwood.

Ray came out onto the ramp and got in the ring, holding a chain. He asked if Haskins was going to bark all day or bite. Haskins retorted by asking Ray to retire. Ray rehashed his attempted retirement from one year ago, and said that the fans begged him to stay.

Ray then said that the fans were suckers, because he’s a liar, and that he’s been lying his entire career. He asked Haskins why he thinks he’s the guy to finally shut him up.

Haskins said he’d fight Ray right now, but Shane Taylor’s music hit and Taylor came to the ring to make it two-on-one. Tracy Williams then came out to back up Haskins. Williams said he wanted a tag match right now.

LifeBlood (Mark Haskins & Tracy Williams) vs. Bully Ray & Shane Taylor ended in a no contest

Before Haskins and Ray could lock up, the Soldiers of Savagery blindsided Haskins and Williams and forced the match to be thrown out.

Ray, Taylor, and the Soldiers of Savagery beat up LifeBlood until PJ Black came out with a chair. Black cleaned house, but the numbers game got him too. The heels hoisted Black up onto the shoulders of Ray, who powerbombed him through a table to end the show.

Colt Cabana to defend NWA National title at ROH TV tapings

Colt Cabana’s first defense of the NWA National Championship will take place at this month’s ROH television tapings.

Cabana vs. James Storm for the National title has been announced for ROH’s tapings in Villa Park, Illinois on Sunday, May 12. The show is the final night of ROH’s War of the Worlds tour.

At the NWA & ROH’s Crockett Cup event this past weekend, Cabana defeated Willie Mack to win the National title. James Storm came out to the ring after the match, cutting a promo on NWA management and how they don’t want him to be World Champion. Storm complimented Cabana but said he’s come up with a plan where management can’t silence him — and that’s winning the National title.

The War of the Worlds tour also has stops in Buffalo, New York on May 8, Toronto, Ontario, Canada on May 9, and Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 11.

Jay Lethal vs. Jeff Cobb vs. Rush vs. PCO will headline the TV tapings in Villa Park. Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa defending the ROH Tag Team titles against The Briscoes, Hirooki Goto vs. Hikuleo, EVIL & SANADA vs. Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata, and PJ Black vs. Karl Fredericks have also been announced for the tapings.

NWA crowns three new champions at Crockett Cup

Three new NWA champions were crowned tonight at the Crockett Cup tournament in Concord, North Carolina.

The ROH team of Brody King and PCO defeated Royce Isaacs and Thomas Latimer (formerly Bram from Impact) to win not only the Crockett Cup tournament, but the NWA Tag Team titles, which have been vacant since 2017. Isaacs and Latimer won the wildcard battle royal and earned a spot in the tournament in the first match of the show, but lost in the finals after PCO hit a moonsault on Latimer following a fireman’s carry Michinoku driver from King.

Earlier in the card, Allysin Kay defeated Santana Garrett to win the vacant NWA Women’s championship. Garrett went to the top rope for a shining star press, but Kay moved out of the way and pinned Garrett with a spear to win the championship for the first time.  The match originally was supposed to be Jazz defending the title against Kay, but on 4/22 it was announced that she would be vacating the title after 948 days due to personal and medical reasons.

Colt Cabana later defeated Willie Mack to win the NWA National title after scoring the win with the Superman pin, ending Mack’s 184 day run as champion. James Storm made an appearance after the match, challenging Cabana to a future title match.
