For the next five weeks, the NWA will be airing its content on X/Twitter.
The promotion announced today that, starting this Tuesday and running weekly through October 29, episodes of NWA Power will air on the NWA’s X account at 6:05 p.m. Eastern time. The five episodes will feature matches from NWA 76, the promotion’s yearly anniversary show that was taped in Philadelphia at the end of August.
This Tuesday at 6:05 pm EST celebrate 76 years of @NWA history as the action of #NWA76 comes to #NWAPowerrr for FREE on the official @NWA X account. Titles & pride are on the line with 2 HUGE championship matches that will now be viewable AROUND THE GLOBE! THIS Tuesday at 6:05:… pic.twitter.com/u0Voo2mxM2
“We wanted to reward all of our loyal fans domestically and around the globe by allowing them to see our spectacular anniversary show,” the NWA’s Joe Galli said. “Especially to those fans who may have been missing out on NWA Power over the past few months.”
This Tuesday, NWA Power will be headlined by EC3 defending his NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship against Thom Latimer. There will also be a Tag Team title match with Alex Taylor & Kerry Morton challenging Mike Knox & Trevor Murdoch.
The move comes as NWA content is leaving The CW app today. Episodes of NWA Power have been airing weekly on The CW app since February.
New episodes of NWA Power are coming to The CW’s streaming app starting on Tuesday, February 6th, according to the promotion.
It’s assumed the new episodes will align with NWA’s regular Tuesday release schedule on YouTube. A release time wasn’t announced.
It’s the latest development in the somewhat secretive arrangement between NWA and The CW which has yet to be fully announced after months of speculation as to the status.
Last fall after NWA owner Billy Corgan announced that he had signed two deals with a top-20 network, it was reported that The CW was that network. However, following a cocaine skit with James Mitchell during October’s NWA Samhain pay-per-view, it was reported that the deal was at risk of falling through. Shortly afterward, The CW signed a deal to air WWE NXT beginning in the fall of 2024.
Corgan has yet to publicly announce a deal with The CW or to clarify what the existing arrangement is. A reality show based on his life and recent marriage were reportedly one of the two deals he signed but there has been no recent news on when the reality show will air or where.
Billy Corgan teased last week during an appearance on Busted Open Radio that his promotion had recently signed with a “Top 20 network.” According to a report from Haus of Wrestling, both TV deals are with The CW, and an official announcement is coming relatively soon.
It is believed one of the two deals is for the rights to NWA Power and the other is for a reality TV series based on what happens behind the scenes in the promotion.
In late August, the NWA announced it had made several production upgrades and declared it was entering a “new era.” The production upgrades were reportedly made in anticipation of the company’s new television deals.
Today’s news comes on the heels of Corgan’s company also announcing the return of its old territory system. EC3’s Exodus Pro Wrestling promotion was revealed as the first new affiliate in the system and will now be known as NWA ExodusPro Midwest. It’s been speculated that the new territories could be featured on the NWA’s YouTube channel in the future.
This is the second to last episode of NWA Power before NWA 75 next weekend. This show is from the Highland Park, Il, tapings last month with Joe Galli and Tim Storm on the call.
The Southern 6 (Alex Taylor & Kerry Morton) (w/ Silas Mason) defeated Colby Corino & Joe Alonzo
This opening match was a bit of a preview for NWA 75 as Corino takes on Kerry Morton for the NWA Junior Heavyweight Title on night one.
Morton started with Alonzo, but Corino tagged in immediately which only led to Taylor tagging in immediately. This didn’t work well for the heels as Alonzo and Corino cut off the ring from the champ. But, Morton illegally got involved and turned the match around. He held the offense until Corino got the hot tag on Taylor and hit a diving elbow drop from the top rope. He then pulled Morton into the ring and they fought back to the outside while on the inside, Taylor hit the Green Whistle on Alonzo for the win.
Talos defeated Judais
They were already in the ring after the intro and ready to go at it. This was a great big meaty men slappin’ meat match as both are least 6’7″and 300 pounds. Judais just ended up beating down Talos for a long time. A big-time fallaway slam took both out momentarily. After this, Sal the Pal ran in with his towel and threw it at the referee. While the referee was distracted, Gaagz the Gymp hit the Gaagz Reflex onto Judais and Talos pinned him for the win.
– May Valentine was backstage with NWA TV Champion Thom Latimer who is close to hitting the Lucky 7 (seven straight title defenses earn him a World title shot). He said he has no idea who his last opponent to get there and he doesn’t care. He also doesn’t care who he takes on for the NWA World Title. He also has a tag team match next week. Busy guy!
– DLZ had his weekly segment and announced the Kamille vs. Kylie Paige non-title match for tonight and interviewed a couple of people backstage who really have much to say.
Magic Jake Dumas & CJ defeated AJ Cazana & Natalia Markova in an intergender match
Storm said we hadn’t seen a mixed tag team match like this in years which is surprising. Galli also claimed that there can be an interaction between the genders. We saw that on full display when Markova hit a couple of moves on Dumas. Cazana worked over Jake for a few minutes, but CJ tagged in. Cazana didn’t want to put his hands on a woman, so he tagged in Markova. The men came back in and Cazana accidentally ran over Markova. Dumas and CJ then double-teamed Cazana which set up Dumas for the moonsault and the win.
– Eric Jackson was backstage with May Valentine. He thanked everyone for the opportunity in NWA, but he can’t prove himself to who he really is and he called himself him. Alright. He also announced he teams up with Fodder next week.
NWA Women’s Champion Kamille defeated Kylie Paige in a non-title match
Kamille celebrated 800 days as champion today.
They hyped this up as a match that showcases the future of the division vs. the present. They tied up early and Paige was thrown around. Kamille dominated in the early going, but Kylie eventually baited the champ and used the ring post to her advantage. She worked over the left arm of Kamille. They went back and forth a bit until Kamille hit a massive Alabama Slam. Kamille followed it up with a spear for the win. Pretty Empowered came out after the match to help Kylie, but Kamille just ended up spearing both of them at the same time.
– Trevor Murdoch & Mike Knox — the winners of the NWA Crockett Cup tournament — were with May Valentine hyping up their NWA 75 Tag Team Title match on Night 2. Blunt Force Trauma takes on La Rebelion on Night 1 so they talked about which team they would rather face and which team they thought would show up. They also talked about next week’s big main event against Latimer.
– Kamille had her own promo wondering how Markova earned the title shot against her on night 1 of NWA 75. She announced it as a “no limits match” where anything goes.
Blunt Force Trauma (Carnage & Damage) (w/ Aron Stevens) defeated EC3 & Jordan Clearwater (w/ C Red)
Commentary pointed out that EC3 is not the NWA National Heavyweight Champion anymore. Carnage started against Clearwater and BFT dominated early. EC3 finally tagged in, but it wasn’t a hot tag — BFT just let it happen. EC3 and Clearwater turned things around and had the same domination segment of the match. This whole match was just back and forth, but the old-fashioned way. BFT eventually hit the double-team sidewalk slam off the middle rope onto Clearwater. EC3 went to break up the pin but Stevens stopped him from the outside for the BFT win.
This week’s NWA Power was the fourth TV taping from Studio One in Highland Park, IL. I believe this is the final taping from here before NWA 75 later this month, but don’t quote me on that. Joe Galli and Tim Storm were on the call per usual.
Chris Adonis defeated Dak Draper and Damage (w/ Aron Stevens) in a three-way
Most of this was just two guys fighting while another watched or sat outside. It’s how WWE used to do it and it makes no sense. A lot of it was Damage working over Draper while fighting off Adonis. Draper actually hit a gut-wrench power bomb onto Damage, but Adonis broke up the pin with a Master Lock. Once Draper fought out, Stevens used the loaded glove on Draper and Adonis locked in another Master Lock for the win. I’m tot sure why Stevens helped Adonis here, but perhaps we’ll find out.
Judais defeated Gaagz The Gymp in a submission match
This went about as well as you’d think. You got a guy in a Gymp outfit that’s about 5’7 against a caveman that’s about the size of a mountain.
The start was just Judais trying to catch Gaagz from running away from him. Gaagz finally snuck up behind him and tried to lock in a sleeper hold, but he couldn’t even get that. After raking Judais’ eyes, Gaagz locked in a dragon sleeper which was easily fought out of. Judais really dominated from here which Gaagz started enjoying. He liked being choked and even gyrated in the air. (I can count about six kids in the front row under the age of 14, by the way.)
After Judais’ crucifixion, Jeremiah Plunkett came out to try and stop the action and got chokeslammed. Sal the Pal then came out and threw in the towel. This ended up being the longest match on the show. Never again, please.
– May Valentine was in the back with NWA US Tag Team Champs The Country Gentlemen. They tried to run damage control about their loss last week. They talked about how they didn’t lose, they just learned, and how they don’t lose when it matters which is when the championships are on the line.
Fodder & Joe Alonzo (w/ Angelina Love) defeated Eric Jackson & Robert Anthony
Jackson and Anthony cut off the ring on Fodder at the start. They were dominant in the early going. Alonzo was able to distract Jackson to set up a tag. I really liked the heel vs. heel dynamic in this one. Anthony eventually got the hot tag, but Alonzo had the same opportunity and didn’t take it. He stayed in the match and hit a rolling death valley driver onto Anthony for the surprise win. I actually liked quite a bit.
– It was time for the weekly DLZ update. He talked about the NWA Tag Team Champions La Rebelion and the Women’s TV Champion Kenzie Paige. He also announced Mims is cleared for action and will have a match next week. He also had a fun interaction with Austin Idol.
– May Valentine was with La Rebelion and talked about a six-man tag next week with the Brothers of Funstruction. Vampiro cut a promo on them and how famous he is and how good Bestia and Mecha Wolf are. La Rebelion was one of the things I really took seriously in this company and they’re feuding with two clowns right now, so there’s that.
NWA Women’s TV Champion Kenzie Paige vs. Angelina Love went to a time limit draw
Love was just out at ringside for Fodder’s win and now she has a title shot. Paige started by telling Love how much she respects her and loves her, but commentary pointed out it was just a plea to extend the time. Love started actually wrestling and Paige took it as an offense. She tripped Love into the corner and really took advantage. Once Love fought back in, she took Paige around the world to every turnbuckle, but Paige rolled out to stall some more. She baited Love outside and went right back on the offensive. At about the one-minute mark, Love hit a surprise Botox Injection kick. The champion rolled to the outside, so Love tried to get her back in twice and time ran out, so Paige retained as the 6:05 time limit ran out.
– Violent J of the Insane Clown Pose was at a studio after this match and he announced that he’s coming to NWA 75 at the end of the month.
– May Valentine was with Pretty Empowered and they have a chance at the Women’s Tag Team titles again at NWA 75 if they win a match next week. Who will be competing is a mystery though.
Silas Mason (w/ Alex Taylor & Ricky Morton) defeated Koa Laxamana (w/ Kallies)
This was advertised as an Laxamana open challenge. He was in the ring with Kyle Davis and he cut a promo on how Kerry Morton cost him his match against Ricky Morton a few weeks ago. He challenged Kerry to a match but Ricky and Taylor came out instead. Ricky told him he didn’t want that smoke or the Morton fever. He said he still has an opponent for him: Silas Mason.
Mason started the match with a uranage that almost took Laxamana out of his boots. A German suplex followed and it looked rough for Koa already. Mason even stuck Koa’s fingers inside the turnbuckle where it connects to the ring post and almost broke his fingers. “The Thrillbilly” was really throwing this guy around like a rag doll. Laxamana finally fought back into it, but Mason quickly caught him into a surprise Thrillride for the easy win.
After the match, Ricky grabbed the mic and asked for a kiss from Kallies. Kallies slapped the taste out of his mouth. Mason then also asked for his own slap and got it. Kallies and Laxamana then hauled it out of there to end the show.
Tuesday’s edition of NWA Power was the third consecutive show from the Highland Park, IL tapings. Joe Galli and Tim Storm got right into the action.
Carnage (w/ Aron Stevens) defeated Jax Dane (w/ Chris Silvio Esq.) by countout
Usually, when you start a show with two guys in the ring, you would want them to get going fast and get the crowd excited. These two thought they should do the opposite by staring at each other and locking in rest holds. They started fighting on the outside where Carnage really took advantage. A snap slam actually got a near fall only about three minutes into the match.
Dane kicked out and countered Carnage and when he went for a spear, Stevens held his leg. Dane moved to the outside and tried to attack Stevens but when Carnage distracted him and the ref, Dane got hit with Stevens’ loaded glove. Dane looked extremely dizzy and couldn’t return to the ring for the 10 count. He then got into announcer Tim Storm’s face after the match for some reason. Storm later talked about how he and Dane had a history but that’s all it was.
Mike Knox & Trevor Murdoch defeated Russ Jones & Schaff
This was just all about putting Knox and Murdoch over. The entirety of the commentary was about how they won the Crockett Cup and are the “best tag team in the world.” Jones and Schaff are actually the AAW Tag Team Champions and the commentary made sure to explain that. It created a weird dynamic where they were trying to get both of these teams over in different ways which didn’t really help either of them.
The Cup winners were still in control for most of it, using their size and teamwork to cut off the ring. Murdoch got the pop-up spinebuster for a near fall, but Schaff broke it up. Knox then hit his own pop-up spinebuster to set up Jones for the high-low and the pin.
– May Valentine was with Mims, asking how he was going to handle Chris Silvio Esq. at ringside tonight for his match with Troop. He then cut a whole promo about how scary his opponent was and how he wasn’t going to back down to him or anybody else.
Blake Troop (w/ Chris Silvio Esq.) defeated Mims by referee’s decision
Troop’s whole gimmick is that he’s an MMA fighter as well as being a professional wrestler. That is true, but for this specific match, the storyline was that he had a jiu-jitsu tournament over the weekend and he injured his ribs, which were still taped up.
This was a pretty slow match that was smooth for the most part. They went back and forth until Troop locked in a kneebar that looked excruciating. Mims was able to get the ropes, but Troop left it in as long as he could. They kept going back and forth until Mims locked in a bear hug. Troop went for Mims’ eyes to get out and locked in the kneebar again. Mims was screaming in pain and he was reaching for the ropes when he passed out from the pain.
– Eric Jackson was the lucky man to get interviewed by Valentine next. She asked about his tag team match for next week. Jackson put his tag team partner (Robert Anthony) over until Fodder interrupted and put himself over, saying he destroys anyone in the ring.
Jordan Clearwater & Odinson defeated U.S. Tag Team Champions The Country Gentlemen (AJ Cazana & Anthony Andrews) in a non-title match
So, last week we found out the two teams that are gonna face each other at next month’s PPV for a shot at these titles. This week, the champions lost a non-title match to two guys that have never teamed together? This immediately made me not care.
Clearwater and Odinson even had an argument about who would start. Cazana started the match for the champions and got a quick advantage. The champs cut off the ring on Clearwater and they dominated. Odinson finally got into the match and turned things around. They cut off the ring on Cazana until he hit a lariat for the Andrews hot tag. He ran wild on both men with some crazy power moves, throwing Clearwater and Odinson around like they were dolls. Odinson regained the advantage and pounced him mid-air.
They rid the ring of Cazana and set up Andrews for another pounce and the clean win. So, again, a team that has never tagged before just beat the champions clean a week after the champions got their PPV match.
– This week’s edition of DLZ was just a quick run-down recap of everything that’s happened in the past few weeks. It seems like a thing that the locker room has a lot of fun with but he talks so fast you can’t understand anything he’s saying. But I’ll take his word for it!
– May Valentine checked in with Dak Draper who was making sure that his friend Mims was okay as he went to the hospital with a bad hamstring injury. But next week, Draper is facing off against Damage and Chris Adonis in a three-way, which should be pretty exciting. Draper talked about how this was his big opportunity to prove he is worthy of the now-vacant NWA National Championship. But he started the promo by saying, “May, what does NWA stand for?’ After she said the correct answer, he said, “No, May. It stands for opportunity.” What?
NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Kerry Morton (w/ Ricky Morton) defeated Matt Vine to retain
Morton made his way to the ring and told the commentary team to acknowledge the champion. He is really exceptional at being a heel. They started the match quickly with a tie-up, quickly into running the ropes, and a shoulder tackle by Vine. Morton locked in another submission hold and started jawing with Storm — the second wrestler of the night to have a problem with the former NWA World Champion.
They kept the pace high with mostly Morton on offense, using the ropes and targeting the right leg of Vine. Vine took advantage of Morton showboating and hit a clean uranage. Morton rolled out of the ring to his dad, who surprisingly didn’t interfere, and then connected with the Showstopper for the win. I believe it’s official now that Colby Corino will take on Kerry Morton for the title at NWA 75, but you never know with this company.
This week’s NWA Power came from the recent Highland Park, IL, taping with Joe Galli and Tim Storm on the call.
Colby Corino defeated Alex Taylor (w/ Danny Dealz)
This was Corino’s first singles match in the NWA since last summer which was the story of the match. This was also deemed a Junior Heavyweight title eliminator match.
Taylor went on the offensive after some competitive work early and really didn’t look good at all. He almost dropped Corino on his head a number of times. Corino then turned it around and when Taylor went for a sunset flip, Corino rolled out and hit a rising knee. He followed it up with a short-arm clothesline and DDT for the win.
Thom Latimer defeated Mario Pardua (w/ C-Red) to retain the NWA men’s TV Title
This was contested under the standard TV title rules with a 6:05 time limit. There was a lot of sportsmanship to start — something you don’t see in wrestling. Latimer pretty much dominated this, destroying Pardua with a big Alabama Slam and a clothesline. Pardua started to fight back, but Latimer caught him with a pop-up power bomb and then locked in the crossface for the win.
– May Valentine was in the back with Kylie and Kenzie Paige. This was just a promo to hype up Kenzie’s Women’s TV title defense later on. They talked about how well they know Samantha Starr and how easy it will be to beat her.
Daisy Kill & Talos defeated Magic Inc. (Cody James & Jake Dumas) (w/ CJ) in the semifinals of the NWA United States Tag Team title eliminator tournament
Kill and Talos were already in the ring before this match with Kill even starting to sing a song that had to be muted because of copyright. The winners of tonight’s two tag team matches will face off at night one of NWA 75 with the winner of that match getting a U.S. Tag Team title shot at night two.
They went back and forth getting each of their moves in, but eventually, it moved to the outside where Magic Inc. threatened to use Kill’s ukulele. CJ ended up using it a couple of times which is when everything kind of fell apart. James was beaten on the outside by Talos and back in the ring, he hit him with a chokeslam for the win.
– This week’s DLZ teased a Kamille NWA Women’s title defense against one of the Paige sisters and previewed next week’s match Mims vs. Blake Troop match.
– Angelina Love was in the back with Aron Stevens and BFT. He cut a promo on La Rebelion and emphasized how they take on La Rebelion on night 1 of NWA 75 for the NWA Tag Team Titles and how Stevens is out for revenge.
The Fixers (Jay Bradley & Wrecking Ball Legursky) (w/Matt Vine) defeated The Spectaculars (Brady Pierce & Rush Freeman) in the semifinals of the NWA United States Tag Team title eliminator tournament
The Spectaculars used a lot of double team moves early and had control of the match for a little bit, but Legursky was quick to put a stop to this. They even threw Pierce at Freeman’s groin area. They were dominant after the initial offense, ending the match with a sandwich of Freeman for the win.
The Fixers now take on Daisy Kill and Talos on night 1 of NWA 75 for a chance at the NWA U.S. Tag Team titles.
– Vampiro was with May Valentine who was there to put over La Rebelion after Stevens said his piece earlier. All he really said was that he believes in his team and that BFT “sounds like a sandwich.”
Matt Cardona returns
Cardona was at what looked like his house. He was outside by the pool with a cigar and said it’s been six months since he has been in an NWA ring. He apologized for this to the fans, to Billy Corgan, to the locker room, and to everyone. He reminded everyone how he was the NWA World Champion and how he got injured and returned at NWA 74 just to lose to Rolando Freeman. He then lost to Tyrus and was turned on by all his stablemates. He announced his plan for NWA 75: a Matt Cardona open challenge. He finished by calling this his second chapter and that he will save the NWA.
Kenzie Paige defeated Samantha Starr to retain the NWA women’s TV title
Paige was actually by herself, surprisingly as her sister didn’t come out and she didn’t have anyone else with her. This was also under the same 6:05 time limit as the men’s TV title match. Starr went to shake her hand to start, but the champ kicked it away. Starr kept going for handshakes over and over again and not a single one worked which was a little bit insane.
Paige used one of these handshakes to get the advantage with an eye poke. She was a great heel, yelling at the referee and fans alike to shut up and doing everything she could to get advantages in the match. At around the 2:30 mark, Starr fought out of a sleeper and caught a superkick for a near fall. Her own Samoan Drop also got a near fall.
They traded pinning combinations and Paige hit the Kenzie Cutter out of nowhere to get the pin and successful title defense.
Joe Galli introduced this week’s NWA Power from Studio One in Highland Park, IL. He and Tim Storm were on the call as Velvet Sky was feeling under the weather and won’t be back until August’s NWA 75.
The Brothers of Funstruction (Yabbo & Ruffo) defeated NWA Tag Team Champions La Rebelion (w/ Vampiro) in a non-title match
They all started in the ring at once and after a staredown, Yabbo started spraying the champions with his flower like any clown would. Neither man was phased though. La Rebelion dominated most of this match and worked over Ruffo for most of the match. Yabbo finally got the hot tag and took out Bestia and Mecha Wolf. The clowns kept fumbling into each other and almost kicked one another to give the champs the advantage back.
This is where Vampiro tried to get involved and close it out, but Ruffo tripped him from the outside and Yabbo rolled up Mecha Wolf for the surprise upset.
Ricky Morton (w/ Kerry Morton) defeated Koa Laxamana in a catchweight exhibition match
Laxamana started screaming and started talking about how much of an honor it was to be in the ring with a legend like Ricky. He then offered his lei to Morton to which Joe Galli commented, “I never thought I would see Ricky Morton get “lei’d.” Interesting.
A couple of hip tosses by the Hawaiian Hitman started the match, but Laxamana was quickly distracted by Kerry on the outside. That was a trend throughout this entire match as it set up a Canadian destroyer by Ricky for the very quick win.
– After the match, May Valentine was in the back with Colby Corino and Samantha Starr. She pointed out how important each competitor was to the NWA since they were both generational wrestlers. Starr also hyped up her match against Kenzie Paige next week for the NWA Women’s TV Title. Corino went on about the same thing and then hyped his no. 1 contender match next week for the Junior Heavyweight title.
Zyon (w/ Austin Idol) defeated Rolando Freeman
This was Zyon’s first Power appearance, but we did see him at the Crockett Cup when his manager Austin Idol turned on his son to side with Zyon. Zyon was towering over Freeman — even when Freeman was standing on the first rope.
Obviously, Zyon started throwing Freeman around like a rag doll. It was also a good technical performance as Zyon was locking in all kinds of holds and switching between until Freeman got the ropes. He even bodyslammed Freeman so hard that his bowtie flew off. Freeman fought back into it for a split second, but Zyon caught him with a few backbreakers and a sleeper hold for the win.
– DLZ was in the back and caught us up on Laxamana being upset and The Brothers of Funstruction wanting a title shot. He also hyped up next week’s Women’s TV title match.
– Valentine was with the Southern 6. She asked about what just happened with Ricky Morton and Laxamana, and they really didn’t answer it all. They just put each other over and said that he doesn’t have to.
Natalia Markova & Pretty Empowered (Roxy, Ella Envy and Kylie Paige) defeated NWA Women’s Champion Kamille, Ruthie Jay & and M95 (Madi and Missa Kate)
The heels were out first and they clearly did not want to team with Markova as Galli suggested they were being jealous of Markova getting the title shot at NWA 75.
Markova and Kamille started by pushing each other, but Envy tagged herself in. Kamille dominated Envy though as she got a two-count around one minute into the match. Each woman then took their turn getting their moves in. It ended with Roxy and Jay in the ring and Roxy hitting a Canadian destroyer for the surprise win.
– May Valentine was with the U.S. Tag Team Champions The Country Gentlemen. They hyped up the US Tag Team Challenge in a few weeks.
EC3 defeated “Thrillbilly” Silas Mason (w/ Pollo Del Mar) to retain the NWA National Heavyweight Title
Mason was locked in and came in with a full head of steam. He got the early offense in with chops and work in the corner. EC3 got to the point where he wanted to walk out on the match, but it ended up just being bait that Mason did not take. EC3 still turned it around with his own corner work. Both men were working dirty using the ropes and heel tactics behind the ref’s back. Mason went for a surprise Thrillride off the ropes but EC3 turned it into a One Percenter and actually hit two of them.
Mason kicked out, however, and EC3 went outside of the ring to grab his belt. Del Mar entered the ring and tried to stop him. Mason threw her out of the way violently and EC3 used the belt behind the ref’s back for the pin and three count.
After the match, EC3 was celebrating with the title but in an instant, he dropped the title and walked out. Apparently this was him relinquishing the title to get a NWA World title shot at Tyrus at NWA 75 which Galli noted was the main event.
Kyle Davis hosted this week’s edition of NWA Power which featured matches from the NWA vs. WAOA portion of The World is A Vampire Festival that stopped at Ballarat, Australia’s Kryal Castle on April 23rd.
The Southern 6 (Alex Taylor & Silas “Thrillbilly” Mason) defeated Caveman Ugg & Jake Taylor
Davis was in the ring with the competitors and a guy with a knight’s suit on. It was Sir Phillip if anyone knows who that is, and he announced that the matches could commence. Thank you, Phillip.
The commentary team was quick to point out that Alex Taylor and Jake Taylor have no relation. Ugg and Jake were destroying Alex, but he got out quickly to tag in Mason. They got the heat on Ugg and worked him over. Part of that was Mason grabbing the nasty Caveman’s foot and biting his toes. Gross.
Jake got his own hot tag that was interrupted by Mason and Taylor. Mason hit his signature Thrillride onto Ugg but was quickly thrown out of the ring by Jake who was then thrown out by Alex so he could pin Ugg for the win.
Natalia Markova defeated Aysha by DQ
Aysha was the hometown favorite from Melbourne, and cut a promo before the match talking about how she just got back from a tour in the U.S.
They started hot in this one, going back and forth with armdrags and reversals. You could easily tell Markova was the veteran as Aysha is shockingly only 23. An early cutter by Markova set up a nearfall. Aysha fought back in and got her own nearfall with a Russian leg sweep. A simple counter on the four turnbuckle spots continued the back and forth until they were both knocked down.
They both traded near falls and Markova set up something in the corner but was interrupted by NWA Women’s TV Champion Kenzie Paige. She hit Markova with a superkick that ended the match by DQ. Aysha even attacked Paige to show she did not want it to end that way.
Slex defeated Mercurio
The fans really did not like Mercurio, but they did like Slex. Mercurio almost got hot in the match, but Slex’s power proved too much. He did play heel though, so he was able to get a few nearfalls until they did a cool near-suplex spot that Slex got the best of.
A few pinning combos and strikes later, Mercurio locked in a rest hold that Slex fought out of, leading to his comeback. After a little delay, Slex finally hit a Blue Thunder bomb, but that didn’t put down Mercurio either. They kept going back and forth with Mercurio kicking out of a superplex. The match lost me at this point as these two had no chemistry and just kept going with weird, lackluster work. This match was about eight minutes longer than it should have been and finally ended with a Slexecution out of nowhere for the pin.
NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Kerry Morton defeated Adam Brooks to retain the title
After a long night of wrestling, I was actually excited about this one as I have seen Brooks a few times in Deadlock Pro at the start of the year. Morton cut a complete heel promo before the match, burying the town and the women in the front row. Brooks also talked a bit about how he was going to hurt Morton for the title.
They traded headlocks to start, took it slow, and went at each other in a good way. You could tell when Brooks flipped the switch from being a wrestler to a fighter. He was really dominating until Morton started using the ropes to work over Brooks’ arm. This was just perfect heel work from Morton.
Brooks finally turned it around with a leg sweep to the middle turnbuckle. A superplex was teased, but Morton fell off the top rope. Brooks went for a top rope dive just for Morton to get the knees up. They started going back and forth again with action that looked so awesome and so smooth.
Morton got trapped in the corner and right when Brooks looked like he might have a real chance, Morton hit the Showstopper for the win and successful title defense.
This week’s NWA Power is the go-home for this weekend’s Crockett Cup double-dip pay-per-view.
Mike Knox & Trevor Murdoch vs. The Country Gentlemen (AJ Cazana & Anthony Andrews) went to a no contest
Knox hit some punches in the corner on Cazana before hitting a clothesline. Cazana managed to land a suplex on Murdoch before Andrews tagged in and hit a double team elbow on Murdoch. Andrews didn’t notice a blind tag from Knox who hit the ropes and a crossbody that Andrews wasn’t expecting.
There was some clubbering offense (™ Dusty Rhodes) before both Andrews and Knox hit a clothesline on each other. As this happened, a ton of Crockett Cup teams rushed the ring and started brawling, making this a no contest.
Murdoch ended up hitting a tope suicida on everyone, followed by Knox climbing the ropes for a senton bomb off the top rope onto everyone. Yes, those two big men did that. This was actually a good angle despite the non-finish to the tag match.
The Now (Hale Collins & Vic Delicious) defeated Ryan Matthews & Mario Pardua to qualify for the Crockett Cup tournament
Delicious and Matthews started with Delicious hitting a lariat before tagging out to Collins. Collins stomped on Matthews in the corner. The Now hit a double vertical suplex for a near fall. Delicious hit a DDT on Matthews after a chop to the throat. Matthews rallied to hit a jaw breaker and tagged out to Pardua, who hit a Russian legs weep on Delicious for a near fall.
Delicious slipped out of a powerslam attempt and shoved Pardua into his own partner before tagging out to Matthews, who hit a flying elbow while Pardua was laid across the knees of Delicious for the win — a move apparently called The Now which is appropriate.
– James Mitchell was with Judias and Max the Impaler and he talked about them being in the Crockett Cup, promising they would win the tournament and saying everyone else doesn’t stand a chance against his team.
Samantha Starr defeated Kylie Paige
Paige is green, but learning very fast, much like her sister a few years ago. If she keeps working the way she does, she’ll be one of the better young wrestlers on the indies before long.
Paige managed to trip Starr with a dropdown, but she quickly countered into a hammerlock and a short arm clothesline. Paige dodged a corner charge and hit a series of forearms, a snapmare, and a running basement dropkick on Starr that made Kylie look exactly like her sister, Kenzie.
Paige went to a sleeper hold, trying to wear down Starr, but got dumped to the mat. Paige went for a hip toss, but Starr ducked it and hit a Samoan drop for a near fall. Paige hit a Russian leg sweep, but Starr kicked out. After attempting a suplex or DDT, Starr countered and hit the Starrstruck DDT for the win.
– May Valentine was with Natalia Markova, talking about her upcoming title match with NWA Women’s Champion Kamille. Markova said that Kamille had weaknesses to be exploited, and would do so at the Crockett Cup.
Magic Jake Dumas & Mercurio defeated America’s Ego (Jamie Stanley & Joe Alonzo) (w/ CJ) to qualify for the Crockett Cup
This is a heel vs. heel match which Billy Corgan loves booking for some reason, so the crowd did not care about anything. Mercurio and Stanley started and Mercurio suplexed him before showing off to Dumas, who has still not done a magic trick. CJ and Mercurio ended up posing outside of the ring while Dumas was getting beat on, which was actually kind of funny.
Stanley hit a Russian leg sweep on Dumas for a near fall. Mercurio continued to flirt with CJ while Dumas was hit with a spinebuster. Stanley accidentally hit Alonzo with a pump kick when Dumas ducked an attack. Dumas clotheslined Alonzo to the floor and then CJ decided to grab Alonzo’s foot and shut off any further offense. Dumas hit a tombstone on Stanley and Mercurio blind tagged in to get the pin.
– Thrillbilly Silas came to the ring with Pollo Del Mar to talk with Kyle Davis. EC3 also made his way down to no reaction. Del Mar said that EC3 would be heartbroken at the Crockett Cup as he was going to lose the National title and said to say hi to his aunt Dixie. This got no reaction.
EC3 suggested that Silas should give up the title shot to join him as a tag team to win the Crockett Cup, because he could guide Silas to the top of the NWA. EC3 said they could win the Cup, Silas could help him get to the World title and then could be mentored directly by the NWA World Champion.
Silas shook the hand of EC3, implying that they were going to work together, but pulled EC3 in and hit the Thrillride, posing with the National title afterward.
Final Thoughts:
This was a fairly tame episode with a closing angle that had little heat going into the Crockett Cup. It doesn’t surprise me that they decided to use EC3 in a closing angle, because it is the kind of thing Corgan likes. However, EC3’s current character is not working at all. He can talk and can get heat, but this gimmick is death.
My interest in this weekend’s PPV is at an all time low, and the only match I was mildly interested in, Kamille against Markova, received nearly next to no time in build.
This week’s NWA Power from the Chicago area had all kinds of problems when it debuted on YouTube, crashing after the tag team title “win” you’ll read about below.
This week’s show continued the run toward next weekend’s Crockett Cup tournament.
Talos defeated Blake Troop
This was the definition of a nothing match in the opening minutes, but there was an excellent spot towards the finish when Talos went for a chokeslam on Troop, but Troop landed on the shoulders of Talos and locked on a triangle choke. Talos ended up powering out of it and hit a huge power bomb, but Troop went to the outside to recover. Troop was able to hit a stunner over the ropes and a series of MMA style strikes ending with a big right hand and then a figure four for the finish.
– Mike Knox and Trevor Murdoch were backstage with May Valentine who announced they were entering the Crockett Cup and aiming for the tag team gold.
– Kyle Davis ran down the seeds for the Crockett Cup, including Myzteziz Jr. & Octagon Jr., and Toxin & Arez — all joining from AAA.
NWA Tag Team Champions La Rebelion (Mecha Wolf & Bestia 666) vs. Magnum Muscle (Mims & Dak Draper) went to a no contest
La Rebelion got the heat on Mims right away, hitting a series of high impact double team moves before the referee forced one member to leave the ring. Bestia locked a sleeper on Mims to try and keep him down. Mims dodged a Stinger splash from Bestia, but Bestia was able to recover and knock Draper from the apron before he could recover.
Draper tagged in after Mims hit a double clothesline on both members of La Rebelion. Draper hit a springboard back elbow off the middle ropes, but La Rebelion were able to take his legs out and hit double knees to the face of Draper. Mims and Draper hit a combo powerslam and neckbreaker on Mecha Wolf for the pin and what they thought was the title win.
However, Billy Corgan came out and told the ref the legal man wasn’t pinned and the match was then ruled a no contest. Magnum Muscle were dejected after the decision and this appears to set up an obvious rematch.
NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Kerry Morton defeated Jeremiah Plunkett in an openweight challenge
Talk early was that Plunkett didn’t meet the weight requirement, thus couldn’t challenge for the title.
Part of the story was that Morton was more aggressive, using the ropes to attack Plunkett’s arm and waiting until the ref had to break it up before releasing. Fans seemed to pick up on it as the fans started booing as well.
Plunkett had a run late, but Morton fought out of a pilediver and hit a flatliner, focused on injuring the arm. He missed a knee in the corner, but fought out of another Plunkett attack by wrenching the arm and hitting the Showstopper (Cross Rhodes) for the pin and win.
Masterlock Challenge
This wasn’t a match, but a challenge in that Aron Stevens had to survive the Masterlock (full nelson) by Chris Adonis.
Adonis addressed the crowd and thanked them for supporting the NWA. He reminded Stevens he said, “I give up” in their match several weeks ago which Stevens did not like.
Stevens then did a heel promo, saying Adonis was not the man he used to be and was going to prove it. He left his jacket on which the announcers questioned.
As Adonis went to approach and apply the lock, Stevens said to wait a minute and asked the official to check Adonis’ fingernails so his jacket didn’t get damaged.
A second attempt was also halted as Stevens then wanted to take his jacket off as it was given to him by the prince of Malta. A third attempt was then halted as Stevens claimed Adonis grabbed his ascot as it was a “choking hazard.”
He then stretched his legs to delay it and attempted to delay it another time, but Adonis had enough. He applied the lock, Stevens wailed and tapped immediately, and that ended a rather forgettable segment and show.
This week’s NWA Power featured a TV title match and a tag team match featuring NWA World Champion Tyrus.
NWA TV Champion Thom Latimer vs. EC3 went to a time limit draw
Latimer had his third defense of the TV title, and at least his second draw, I believe This sucked. There is no way around it. If they actually tried to work, it could have been decent. Latimer is good and EC3 can be fine when he wants to, but it is so clear no one cares about EC3. He did not get over here at all.
Latimer and EC3 locked up, wasting a full minute of the 6:05 time limit. Both men exchanged basic holds and takedowns until four minutes were left. Danny Dealz on commentary noted that they had to get going because there was only a short amount of time to win. He was correct. If the match made sense, EC3 should be doing submissions and high impact moves from the beginning.
Both continued to do nothing until there was 2:30 left. A few fans chanted, “This is wrestling!” which is technically true, but was hardly representative of the entire audience as the announcers indicated. The fans started chanting “Fight!” at the two-minute mark, so they picked up the pace a little.
EC3 hit a Thesz press and a standing splash. EC3 did his Ultimate Warrior imitation in slow motion when he shook the ropes to no reaction while screaming that he was “over, man.” Both men hit double clotheslines with 30 seconds left. The time limit expired as they threw punches and the crowd booed. Billy Corgan denied the fans five more minutes, saying that the time limit was the time limit.
– The announcers told us we would see highlights of the NWA/AAA events in Mexico. I wish we saw that instead of what we saw previously.
Yabbo the Clown defeated Ricky Morton
This was not good, but I was greatly entertained for the four minutes of the match. I’m not sure what that means.
To no surprise, Morton got one of the larger reactions from the audience for this TV taping. Yabbo blew up a balloon and offered it to Morton. He then let go of the balloon, causing it to fly away as Morton tried to grab it. Yabbo got the heat after no selling a stomp to the foot since his clown shoes were so huge. Yabbo did more magic than “Magic” Jake Dumas when he pulled a ribbon out of his hands magically to gouge the eyes of Morton. Yabbo then rolled Morton up and got his feet on the ropes to win.
– Aron Stevens was with May Valentine with Blunt Force Trauma. Valentine indicated he had landed something she called a coup. It was implied that we all knew what it was, but they never told us what it was.
Bully Ray promo
Kyle Davis was in the ring with Bully Ray who apologized to Thom Latimer and said that he only said what he honestly thought about Latimer at Billy Corgan’s request.
Ray said that he said some things that got into the head of Latimer which why Latimer got himself DQ’d in their match. Ray then had the fans chant for Latimer, saying he was teaching him to keep his head cool because he believed Latimer would be NWA World Champion.
Daisy Kill came out and said he wrote a song for Ray. He played his ukulele and insulted Ray who put him over for the guts to do that. Ray inspired a standing ovation for Kill, and said he was going to sing a song now. Ray then sang a song saying he was going to beat up Kill.
Bully Ray defeated Daisy Kill
Ray hit a uranage and followed up on his promise.
– Valentine was with Kenzie & Kylie Paige, noting that Kenzie is the NWA Women’s Television Champion now. Kylie said that she and Kenzie are the new legacy in the NWA, and that they may adopt some new family members for Pretty Empowered.
– Cyon was with Valentine and said that losing his National title was the best thing that happened to him, because he knew exactly what he wanted. Cyon said that he was tired of listening to Austin Idol, Tyrus, and anyone else, because the NWA was his now.
NWA World Champion Tyrus & Chris Adonis vs. Blunt Force Trauma (Carnage & Damage) (w/ Aron Stevens) went to a draw
Yikes. This was a bad finish to end all bad finishes. I have no problems with a countout if it makes sense, but how they got to it in this match made no sense at all. Tyrus had no reason to follow everyone to the floor. He could have just waited for Carnage to get back into the ring which made him look very stupid.
Tyrus and Adonis apparently agreed to team off screen as they came out looking like good friends this week as opposed to last week. Damage and Tyrus started with Tyrus hitting a bionic elbow before tagging out to Adonis. Adonis and Rockett (Carnage) carried the work of this match more than other two which is probably wise. Blunt Force Trauma got the heat on Adonis for a few minutes, using nerve holds and chin locks to keep him down.
Adonis dodged a corner charge and made the hot tag to Tyrus. Tyrus hit a series of clotheslines and then a suplex on Carnage as Tim Storm insisted Carnage weighed ten hundred eighty pounds. Stevens got into the ring to distract the referee. He faced off with Tyrus and as Tyrus scared him, he fell into the Master Lock.
Masters kept it on until Stevens passed out. Meanwhile, Tyrus just followed Carnage to the floor for no reason and started fighting with them until there was a countout. What a stupid finish.
Final Thoughts:
The best part of this show was easily Bully Ray, his promo, and then the squash match. Morton and Yabbo was entertaining. Kenzie and Kylie Paige showed some heelish charisma, but the rest of this show was not good. At. All.
NWA Power started with Women’s Champion Kamille and Kyle Davis in the ring. After getting a great reaction, she asked the question, “Who can beat Kamille?” and thought the answer was nobody.
Daisy Kill and Talos then made their way down to the ring. Kill talked about Natalia Markova being the one to beat Kamille. Kill played a ukulele and attempted to sing, insulting her with the lyrics.
Kamille said Markova could have the match tonight if she wanted it. Kamille is over, folks. She is one of the few acts in NWA that is working very well and is treated like a superstar by the audience.
NWA National Champion EC3 defeated Carnage (w/ Aron Stevens) to retain the title
This was not good. No heat at all.
EC3 and Carnage are both heels, and EC3 walked out to virtually no reaction. His gimmick of being the “over man” is definitely not true. They started doing rest holds two minutes into the match, and the fans went mild. EC3 hit a jawbreaker, but ate a dropkick and then a powerslam for a two count.
EC3 hit a Thesz press and did an Ultimate Warrior-type rope shake which got a small reaction. Stevens tried to punch EC3 with a loaded glove, but EC3 ducked and Stevens punched the ring post. EC3 locked on The Purpose (a cobra clutch) for the win and not to be confused with the purpose that Odinson uses to hype himself up.
– Yabo The Clown was with May Valentine and he laughed about facing Ricky Morton next week. Valentine was disturbed as he blew up a balloon and busted it. He then booped her.
NWA Women’s Tag Team Champions M95 (Madi & Missa Kate) defeated The Hollywood Blondes (Ray Lyn & Heather Monroe) to retain the titles
This was fine. All four women are still green, but there is a lot of potential here.
Kate took down Lyn, but got taken over with a headscissors after trying to get in the face of Monroe. Monroe chopped Madi in the corner before the Blondes hit a leg sweep and a meteora. The spot was a bit slow, but I have seen far worse and usually with the NWA World Champion.
Monroe got a good hot tag, hitting cartwheel elbows, shoulder tackles, and a double stomp to Kate for a near fall.
Madi broke up the pinfall attempt and M95 went right back to being in control. M95 tried to hit a suplex, but Lyn broke it up. Monroe tried to fight off the champions, but Kate hit the Kick-fil-A and Madi hit a Reality Check (axe kick) for the pinfall.
– Speaking of the champion, Tyrus came out and was getting ready to announce his tag team partner for the Crockett Cup. He announced Chris Adonis because they would be an unstoppable team. These two squared off for the title at the recent 312 pay-per-view.
Adonis came out and said that he didn’t know what Tyrus was up to naming him him partner, but Adonis was busy and had a match right now.
Chris Adonis (w/ Tyrus) defeated Cyon (w/ Austin Idol)
Decent match. Adonis really is far better than Chris Masters ever was.
Cyon indicated to Tyrus he was upset that he wasn’t named as Tyrus’ partner since he and Tyrus are aligned in Idolmania Sports Management. Adonis went for a stalling suplex, but his knee gave out, leading to Cyon working over the knee for a little bit. The two exchanged chops in the corner before Cyon sent Adonis crashing into corner back-first. Cyon locked on the figure four on Adonis as Idol instructed Cyon on how to twist the knee.
Adonis rolled over and Tyrus curiously cheered Adonis on in the process as Cyon made the ropes. Cyon went for an elbow off the middle rope, and almost crashed into Adonis with his back instead of the elbow as Adonis rolled away. Adonis hit a Manhattan drop and a flying shoulder tackle. He called for the Master Lock, but Cyon blocked it and hit a slingblade. Idol shouted more instructions, but Cyon screamed, “Shut up! It’s your fault we lost the title.” He then turned into Adonis cradling him for the pinfall.
– Ricky Morton was backstage talking about his upcoming match with Yabo. He also talked about the conflict he was having with his son as of late.
NWA Women’s Champion Kamille vs. Natalia Markova went to a time limit draw in a non-title match
This was easily the best match on the show and potentially sets up further matches.
The two locked up and tried to outpower each other. Eventually, Kamille got the advantage over Markova. This led to the fans chanting for a test of strength and they obliged. Kamille had more power, but not by much. The two started exchanging forearms and Markova’s strikes started to show a big effect after a bit, leading to a Markova cutter for a nearfall.
Kamille drove Markova into the turnbuckle before hitting a series of punches in the corner. Kamille went for a spear in the corner, but Markova dodged and the champion flew through the ropes, hitting the ring post while in midair before crashing to the floor. That looked brutal. Markova also crashed to the floor after Kamille swept the legs on the apron. She then sent Markova into the ring post hard.
Markova hit a chop block on Kamille and locked on an arm submission, but Kamille survived it until the time limit expired.
Kamille is one of the only reasons to watch these shows and Markova is right there with her in terms of getting the crowd into her matches.
The road to next month’s NWA 312 pay-per-view continued on this week’s NWA Power. However, this was a pretty terrible episode with no heat for anything.
Kratos defeated Magic Jake Dumas & Jordan Clearwater in a three-way
This was a bad match, but I don’t blame Kratos or Clearwater.
I have yet to see Jake do a magic trick unless you count being thrown around by Kratos, but that would make him a victim of Kratos’ magic. The irony was that the only person to do a magic trick in his act was his valet CJ, who pulled ribbons from her tights last week before Natalya Markova knocked her out.
Kratos took out both men with clotheslines and when he went for a pop-up power bomb on Clearwater, Dumas attacked from behind, leading to a temporary Clearwater and Dumas alliance.
This got very boring with Clearwater and Dumas getting the heat, mainly because Dumas is boring. Clearwater and Dumas hit a double clothesline and later a double suplex when Kratos started to fight back. Once Dumas and Clearwater turned on each other and Dumas was about to hit an Alabama Slam, Kratos picked up both men and hit a Samoan drop. Dumas didn’t go up for him, and nearly caused a botch. Kratos then hit a swinging uranage on Dumas for the pin and win (he barely went up for that, too).
– A promo package aired for Dak Draper & Mims vs. Blunt Force Trauma with comments from Aron Stevens, Draper and Mims.
– Danny Dealz pitched Alex Taylor a deal for a no. 1 contender’s match for the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship. If Taylor loses, the Ill Begotten will be no more.
Blunt Force Trauma (Damage & Carnage) vs. Magnum Muscle (Dak Draper & Mims) wen to a no contest in a no. 1 contenders match
I have no words for how stupid this finish was as it was one of the dumbest I can remember seeing. The non-finish wasn’t the problem, but how they did it. DQs, countouts, no contests, and draws can be useful for storytelling when done right. This promotion never does that.
Draper and Damage started and it wasn’t long before they were getting the heat on Draper. Damage got the heat with some slow offense targeting Draper’s arm. Carnage continued the assault after a powerslam. Draper got Irish whipped to the corner, but he ran up the ropes. Unfortunately, Damage shook the ropes at that moment and Draper landed on the top turnbuckle. Draper turned a back suplex into a crossbody.
It was at this moment that Aron Stevens, who was banned from ringside, came out to the ring. Stevens went to punch Draper with his loaded glove, but May Valentine came out and slapped Stevens. This caused the referee to declare the match a no contest for no real reason. If anything, Blunt Force Trauma should have been DQ’d for Stevens being out there.
The announcers explained Magnum Muscle will advance to the PPV because of their Champions Series title shot, rendering this entire match pointless to begin with.
Joe Alonzo (w/ Jamie Stanley) defeated Alex Taylor (w/ Danny Dealz)
The finish was not as bad as the last one, but it was very bad.
It seems this week that the Ill Begotten were babyfaces after being heels forever. Alonzo, who was a babyface, is now officially a heel. I don’t recall a specific turn for any of them. Alonzo faked a knee injury and drew Taylor in, leading to Stanley choking Taylor on the ropes. Fundamentally, this was a good match with two good workers, but it was hard to care as we haven’t seen the Ill Begotten be anything other than a geek group with few hints about them breaking up.
It would have helped to have some build to make the stakes matter, but that didn’t happen here. Dealz, being the babyface that he is, gave a chair to Taylor, who realized he would lose and the Ill Begotten would be gone if he used it. Taylor refused to cheat and then ate a Skull Crushing Finale for the win. Of course, this make Dealz and Taylor both look like morons.
– La Rosa Negra was with Gagz the Gimp as Valentine was escorted out of the building for slapping Stevens. Gagz asked a question via a flash card since he doesn’t speak. It was about something about stalking people she loved. I stopped paying attention at that point.
– Later, NWA Tag Team Champions La Rebelion were with Gagz who asked via flash card for them to explain who they were. They then cut a promo on Draper and Mims.
EC3 & BLK Jeez defeated NWA World Champion Tyrus & Eric Jackson
Jackson tried, but this was horrible. I do not recommend.
Jeez assured us this was just an exhibition. He and Jackson were in the early parts of the match before Tyrus tagged in. The champion did nothing but pat Jeez on the head after putting him on the turnbuckle. Jackson got a near fall that EC3 broke up and then blind tagged in.
Jeez hit a flatliner on Jackson and then claimed Tyrus took it too far. You know, Tyrus only patted him on the head. Jeez then hit a suplex on Jackson. EC3 and Jeez got the heat on Jackson and the ref missed the hot tag to Tyrus. Jackson then got finished with a splash by Jeez.
Tyrus and EC3 faced off after the match, so it looks like they are building to a match no one wants to see with Jeez siding with EC3.
Final Thoughts:
The crowd seemed to be around 30-40 people in the front row and there was utter silence for most of the things that happened. Then, we got literal silence when Gagz was interviewing people.
Again, that non-finish really was one of the dumbest non-finishes I have ever seen and that includes Seth Rollins getting DQ’d in a Hell in a Cell against the Fiend.
This week’s very short edition of NWA Power featured what could be the final appearance in the NWA for newly-signed AEW wrestler Taya Valkyrie.
Outside a replay of a match from the Nuff Said pay-per-view, this show was largely missable, but nothing was absolutely terrible outside of an EC3 promo.
Thrillbilly Silas defeated Brady Pierce
Pierce was squashed fairly quickly here, losing after every member of The Spectaculars were hit with a Thrillride.
Daisy Kill & Talos defeated Trevor Murdoch via DQ
Kill, a new character, played the ukulele singing a song about how he was going to beat up Murdoch. Apparently, Kill is the one sending big men after the former NWA World Champion.
Talos and Kill attacked Murdoch and Mike Knox ran out and made the save, leading to the DQ. Murdoch was selling a foot injury, so he was outnumbered and hurt in the process. Knox and Murdoch shook hands after, so it seems that Murdoch finally has some backup and an ally.
– Kevin Kiley Jr. (the former Alex Riley in WWE) was with May Valentine and talked about how excited he was being back in wrestling with the NWA. He admitted he was rusty, but he was the one telling his story and EC3 wasn’t going to control anything.
– Speaking of EC3, he and BLK Jeez were backstage with Valentine and talked about the partnership of their stables. This seems like the third or fourth time we have seen this promo, yet the story hasn’t gone anywhere. EC3 called Tyrus the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Not the champion, mind you — the championship.
– In an encore presentation, they aired the NWA Women’s title match between the champion Kamille and Angelina Love from Nuff Said.
Max The Impaler defeated Taya Valkyrie
In a pre-match promo about Valkyrie and Max, Valkyrie made reference to the Sinister Minister’s recent appearances in Impact Wrestling.
Max attacked as Valkyrie entered the ringside area. Valkyrie used a chair to sit Max on and hit a crossbody, but Max was up soon thereafter, throwing her into the apron. Valkyrie recovered after about 90 seconds of heat from Max. Every time Max would get back up, Valkyrie would hit hard, but as time went on, it was clear the strength of Max was wearing Valkyrie down. Max picked up the win after hitting a short-arm lariat to finally finish Valkyrie off.
