Young Bucks talk Stadium Stampede production process

The seven-on-seven Stadium Stampede match was one of the highlights of AEW’s Double or Nothing. The day after, two of its featured wrestlers have explained how it all came together.

Although the match started in the ring, the action quickly spilled all over the building. War was waged in backstage hallways, at the merch booth, up an escalator, in catering, on a practice tennis court, and in the parking lot. Finally everyone returned to the ring, where Jericho pinned Bishop Kaun for the win.

Given the scattered locations and the history of prior Stadium Stampedes, one might assume that the backstage segments had been filmed earlier in the day, allowing for the outside-the-ring segments to be edited together and inserted into the live action. But that apparently is not the case.

Matt and Nick Jackson, the Young Bucks, were part of the winning team in Stadium Stampede. And they insist that nothing in the match was pre-recorded.

“Everything besides the entrances last night was shot live in real time,” they posted on social media. “Kudos to the crew. We did it. Nothing but love.”

The Bucks went on to share numerous posts from fans who had personally shot some of the goings-on.

In one such post, one fan captured a shot of the ring, then spun to capture Mark Davis patrolling the parking lot, only for Jack Perry to try to run him over with a bus.

The Bucks, Jericho, and Perry teamed with Shelton Benjamin & Bobby Lashley & Kenny Omega to defeat Andrade el Idolo & Toa Liona & Ricochet & Clark Connors & David Finlay, along with Kaun in the match.

Team Jericho wins Stadium Stampede at AEW Double or Nothing, list of notable spots & restrictions

In a wild Stadium Stampede match, Team Jericho took home the win at Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing.

Put in the co-main event spot, the end of the match came when Team Ricochet’s Bishop Kaun shoved Ricochet out of the way before Chris Jericho could finish him off to end a sequence of Team Jericho finishers. Kaun then got hit with a seven-way superkick and a lionsault for the pin and win.

The rest of Team Ricochet were taken out prior to that: Bobby Lashley took out Mark Davis through a table with a spear preceded by him back suplexing Toa Liona through a table, The Dogs taken out by the Young Bucks with stereo top turnbuckle elbow drops through tables and Kenny Omega hitting the One Winged Angel to Andrade through a table on the outside of the ring.

After the win, Jericho jumped through a table in a tribute to Sabu.

Of note from our Bryan Alvarez, the New York State Athletic Commission wouldn’t allow blood or brawling through the crowd.

The match featured Jericho, Omega, Matt and Nick Jackson, Jack Perry, Lashley and Shelton Benjamin against Ricochet, Liona, Kaun, Clark Connors, David Finlay, Davis and Andrade.

Both teams had cinematic intros with Team Jericho all dressed up wearing suits with Metallica’s Devil’s Dance as an overlay while Team Ricochet entered in various vehicles with The Demand sporting baseball uniforms in a nod to the Baseball Furies in the cult classic movie The Warriors.

They will face Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, Jack Perry, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin in the anything goes match that takes place all over the venue: Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.

Stadium Stampede match returning for AEW Double or Nothing

For the first time in five years, the Memorial Day tradition of AEW Double or Nothing will be once again paired with a Stadium Stampede match.

The bout will feature Chris Jericho, part of the inaugural match in 2020, and four partners against Ricochet, the Gates of Agony and two other men.

Made on Wednesday’s Dynamite, Jericho had a verbal confrontation with Ricochet after he wanted another shot at Ricochet given his recent attacks. Ricochet eventually agreed, but only if it was a Stampede match, questioning if Jericho could even find other partners.

A brawl broke out between Jericho, Ricochet and the GOA before all three Hurt Syndicate members (Bobby Lashley, MVP and Shelton Benjamin) ran out for the save, indicating three of Jerich’s partners may be set.

Jericho’s Inner Circle took part in the 2020 Stampede, but were on the losing end of things to The Elite. The Inner Circle did pick up the win in the following year’s match, defeating The Pinnacle, also at Double or Nothing. The last Stampede bout took place at 2023’s All In from Wembley Stadium.

Santana & Ortiz return to AEW, added to All In Stadium Stampede match

Santana & Ortiz returned to AEW, reuniting as a duo and aligning with the Blackpool Combat Club ahead of Sunday’s All In Stadium Stampede match.

Santana made his return for the first time since suffering a devastating knee injury in last year’s Blood & Guts match on the June 29, 2022 Dynamite. Ortiz has intermittently appeared for AEW since last year’s Blood & Guts, occasionally working as a single or in mixed tags, but Dynamite marked his first appearance for company since an ROH match taped on April 5.

In their return, Santana & Ortiz aligned with Blackpool Combat Club, turning on Eddie Kingston in the process in an angle that involved Jon Moxley & the BCC attacking Rey Fenix as Kingston & Penta El Zero Miedo ran in for the save. Santana, Ortiz, Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli took out Kingston & Penta, then Orange Cassidy & Best Friends entered to even the odds.

Fenix was taken out of the arena on a stretcher after the angle, creating a scenario where the originally announced six-on-six Stadium Stampede match for All In was changed to a five-on-five, with Moxley, Castagnoli, Yuta, Santana & Ortiz facing Kingston, Penta, Trent Beretta, Chuck Taylor & Cassidy.

Stadium Stampede match announced for AEW All In

A Stadium Stampede match has been added to All In.

The Blackpool Combat Club will team with three mystery partners to take on Eddie Kingston, The Lucha Bros., Best Friends, and Orange Cassidy in a 6 on 6 Stadium Stampede match at Wembley Stadium following events that took place on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

After Orange Cassidy retained the AEW International title against Wheeler Yuta, the rest of the Blackpool Combat Club came in and attacked Cassidy. This brought out Best Friends, then Lucha Bros.. Kingston, who has spent the last month competing in NJPW’s G1 Climax tournament, then made his return to the promotion and sent the BCC reeling, challenging them to the Stadium Stampede match.

Two Stadium Stampede matches have taken place in AEW. The first in 2020 featured members of The Elite and Matt Hardy against The Inner Circle. The second took place the following year, with members of The Pinnacle squaring off against The Inner Circle.

Here’s the updated card for All In on August 27:

  • AEW World Champion MJF defends against Adam Cole
  • AEW Tag Team Champions FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) defend against The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson)
  • AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida defends against Toni Storm, Saraya and either Britt Baker or The Bunny
  • Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, and Hangman Page vs. Konosuke Takeshita, Jay White, and Juice Robinson
  • Chris Jericho vs. Will Ospreay
  • Stadium Stampede match: Eddie Kingston, Lucha Bros., Best Friends, and Orange Cassidy vs. Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and three other partners
  • Sting & Darby Allin vs. Swerve Strickland & AR Fox in a coffin match
  • Zero Hour pre-show: ROH Tag Team Champions Aussie Open (Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher) defend against MJF & Adam

AEW Blood & Guts match expected to return this summer

Blood & Guts — AEW’s version of a WarGames match — appears to be returning in just a few months.

AEW head Tony Khan revealed the news in an interview with ESPN Friday, saying to expect it to return this summer.

The original match was set for a March 2020 Dynamite as part of AEW’s Newark, New Jersey, debut, featuring The Elite vs. The Inner Circle. However that plan was scrapped due to the pandemic.

The match was then announced again for a May 2021 edition of Dynamite with The Inner Circle taking on The Pinnacle. MJF’s group picked up the win and Chris Jericho dislocated his elbow taking a fall off the cage he was criticized for.

However, when it comes to another AEW staple in Stadium Stampede, it appears that match will not be in the cards anytime soon.

Khan told ESPN that while he’s thought about it, running shows in the post-Daily’s Place pandemic era has changed his mindset on that specific match.

“It’s a very different wrestling world now than it was during the pandemic. I think it’s a great match, a signature match for us that people really enjoyed. But some of the reasons we presented that match were because of the challenges that existed in the world because of the pandemic, as far as presenting sporting events with live fans. That doesn’t really exist in this live-event pandemic,” he said.

Inner Circle win Stadium Stampede match at AEW Double or Nothing

The Inner Circle will remain a unit after winning tonight’s Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing.

After a match that featured brawling all over the TIAA Bank Field stadium, the finish had the action spill back into the Daily’s Place in front of live fans. Sammy Guevara and Shawn Spears were in the ring. After some tense back and forth action. Guevara scored the win after hitting a 630 splash.

The match started with The Inner Circle scaling down from the top of the stadium to the floor. MJF, who arrived at the stadium in a limo, went to hide inside. The rest of The Pinnacle arrived in a truck, and from there the two groups splintered into brawling all over the arena. Jericho paired with MJF, FTR paired with Ortiz and Santana, Wardlow met with Jake Hager and Guevara with Spears. Cameos included head coach of the Jaguars Urban Meyer during a Jericho-MJF scene and Konnan during a FTR-Ortiz and Santana scene.

The two teams have been feuding ever since MJF turned on Jericho and The Inner Circle, forming his own faction. The Pinnacle defeated The Inner Circle in the first ever Blood and Guts match. Jericho and the rest of the Inner Circle wanted another match. MJF then challenged the group to a Stadium Stampede match with the stipulation that if The Inner Circle were to lose, they would disband. Jericho agreed to the match and the stipulation the following week.

The Pinnacle issue AEW Stadium Stampede challenge to Inner Circle

After their two factions went to battle in the first-ever Blood & Guts match, The Inner Circle and The Pinnacle appear destined for another high-profile clash at this month’s AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view: a Stadium Stampede match.

As MJF’s crew was celebrating their win Wednesday on Dynamite with a coronation party, a horn started beeping and an Inner Circle-branded cart with Ortiz, Sammy Guevara and Jake Hager pulled up. As MJF verbally ran them down, Chris Jericho then appeared in the cart with his left elbow taped up and in a brace. He demanded an answer for a rematch and MJF said no. Guevara then sprayed down the ring with a giant hose, soaking all of the Pinnacle members.

An incensed MJF got back on the mic and challenged The Inner Circle to a Stadium Stampede match at the Sunday, May 30th pay-per-view, but with a stipulation. If The Inner Circle loses, the team has to break up forever. Jericho didn’t answer, leaving the question up in the air.

The Inner Circle competed in the first-ever Stadium Stampede match at last year’s Double or Nothing, losing to The Elite.
