Ric Flair apologizes for having to leave AEW event

Ric Flair has issued an apology for having to leave AEW Blood and Guts 2025 without making his scheduled appearance on the live broadcast.

The 76-year-old wrestling icon made the trip to Greensboro, North Carolina last Wednesday and did appear in front of the crowd before Blood and Guts began. However, despite being advertised, he did not play any role on the Dynamite show itself. Dave Meltzer reported that the reason for that was because Flair had to leave early due to being in a lot of pain from a rotator cuff injury that he’s suffering from.

Flair confirmed that in a tweet today, apologizing to everyone and saying that he would never disappoint people intentionally. Flair said he looks forward to the next time he’s invited to an AEW show.

“I Want To Apologize To Everyone For Having To Leave The @AEW Show Early Last Wednesday Due To My Rotator Cuff Injury,” he wrote. “I Appreciate @TonyKhan Giving Me The Opportunity To Be On The Show. It Was Nice Catching Up With All The Great Talent And Ricky Steamboat. I Look Forward To Being Invited Again. After I Have My Shoulder Healed Up, I Will Be Back Up & Running. I Just Want You All To Know That I Would Never Disappoint You Intentionally.”

Both Flair and Ricky Steamboat, huge stars in Greensboro during their wrestling days, were advertised for the Dynamite episode. Steamboat did appear on the broadcast in a segment where he was attacked by FTR until Brody King & Bandido made the save.

Despite only making rare appearances, Flair is still under contract with AEW. He was brought into the promotion to be part of Sting’s retirement run and for a sponsorship with his Woooo! Energy drink. That sponsorship deal has since ended.

Flair also appeared at an AEW show this May for a segment where he honored his late friend Steve “Mongo” McMichael.

Injury updates following AEW Blood and Guts

Image: AEW

In a bit of surprising news, there weren’t a lot of injuries coming out of Wednesday’s AEW Blood and Guts edition of Dynamite.

On Thursday’s Wrestling Observer Live, our Bryan Alvarez had some specific updates.

For the first time, the show saw not only one, but two, of the double cage matches as the women got their opportunity for the first time. One of those women — Jamie Hayter — suffered undisclosed injuries to her face and teeth after taking a thrown chair shot in the corner from Megan Bayne while holding a trash can lid.

Alvarez said her face and teeth “are all messed up.” Fightful Select had reported after the show that the former AEW Women’s World Champion may have chipped teeth.

On the men’s side, Alvarez said Darby Allin is fine despite being thrown through a flaming table during the men’s Blood and Guts match. As Allin was rolling to safety after the spot, fire was visible on his back.

Even though he wasn’t involved in either match, Powerhouse Hobbs survived his falls count anywhere bout with Hangman Page despite taking a hard bump on his tailbone on the outside of the ring. Alvarez said Hobbs is also fine.

AEW crowns men’s Blood and Guts winner

AEW has crowned the winner of the 2025 men’s Blood and Guts match.

A team led by Kyle O’Reilly defeated a team led by Jon Moxley and The Death Riders in the main event Blood and Guts match on Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite from Greensboro, North Carolina.

O’Reilly, Roderick Strong, Darby Allin, Orange Cassidy, and Mark Briscoe defeated Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, PAC, Wheeler Yuta, and Daniel Garcia in the two-ring cage match following a bloody war.

A match-long storyline played out where Briscoe was attacked backstage before he could enter the match by The Don Callis Family to further his angle with TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher. A triumphant Briscoe returned during the match and eventually scaled the cage to do battle with Wheeler Yuta atop the structure.

The match’s conclusion came with O’Reilly using an ankle lock with a grapevine to secure a submission win over Moxley.

Wednesday’s episode also featured a women’s Blood and Guts match, plus Hangman Page taking on Powerhouse Hobbs in a wild falls count anywhere matchup.

Our full report from Blood and Guts is here.

Exclusive on Ric Flair not appearing during AEW Blood and Guts broadcast

Fans online were curious as to why Ric Flair didn’t appear on the live AEW Blood and Guts edition of Dynamite as advertised, especially alongside Ricky Steamboat during an in-ring segment with FTR.

Our Dave Meltzer is reporting that Flair was indeed in attendance in Greensboro, North Carolina, but instead did a brief appearance for the live crowd (seen below) and then left due to him being in “a ton of pain” due to a recent rotator cuff tear.

Meltzer didn’t have any details as when or how Flair suffered the injury, but noted that AEW had to change the show around as Flair was originally booked to do something which is assumed to be the aforementioned Steamboat/FTR segment. As recently as late-July, Flair said he was pain-free and also cancer-free.

Despite his Woooo Energy drink deal wrapping up that covered his pay, Flair has remained under AEW employment. He appeared on AEW TV earlier this year as he paid tribute to longtime friend and former Four Horsemen member Steve “Mongo” McMichael after his passing.

Winners crowned in chaotic first-ever women’s AEW Blood and Guts match

The women of AEW made history Wednesday by competing in their first-ever Blood and Guts match as part of a special edition of Dynamite.

The team led by the Triangle of Madness got their hands raised at the end of the match after Toni Storm surrendered for her team.

The beginning of the end saw Marina Shafir throw a mirror at Storm’s head as she was running in for a hip attack. Shafir then stepped on the glass and used it in stomping Mina Shirakawa’s chest, who had Megan Bayne in a bat-assisted figure four. Shafir then judo tossed Shirakawa onto the glass and held her in place as Bayne whipped Shirakawa’s back with a title belt.

Storm was helpless to assist as she was held back by Thekla, Skye Blue and Julia Hart. Storm eventually surrendered and was then beat up by the heels afterward.

The 12-woman bout featured nearly all of AEW’s top female talent including AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander, Storm, TBS Champion Mercedes Mone, Bayne, Willow Nightingale and others. Statlander and Mone were not part of the end as they had made their way to the outside of the cage where Statlander took out the TBS Champion with a Samoan drop off one of the trusses through a table.

*********

Mone and Statlander, who will meet next Saturday at the Full Gear pay-per-view, had several interactions. Mone made it a point of being grossed out by the blood and later brought in several of her many title belts to hand to her teammates to use on their opponents.

As expected, the match opened up the show from Greensboro, North Carolina, with the men’s Blood and Guts match set for the main event slot. Also as expected, the match featured weapons like a chair, a trash can lid, a belt, a kendo stick with barbed wire, a pool cue, a bag of tacks, and more.

Shafir, a standout in the match, attempted to up the ante after she entered, dragging Statlander outside the cage and counter-clotheslining her on a bed of nails. Storm was the last entrant after Shafir and started hitting women with clutched pearls before Shafir no-sold them and went on the offensive. Storm later got her revenge, wrapping her hands in tape and then sticking broken glass to them for punches.

Blue was busted open early during her opening salvo with Nightingale with her face and upper torso nearly completely covered in red after a few minutes. Statlander was also bleeding at one point as were Bayne, Shafir and Shirakawa.

In another notable spot, Jamie Hayter and Blue were fighting on the top rope when Hayter power bombed Blue through a table that didn’t break, followed up by an elbow drop that also didn’t fully break the table.

The infamous Mone puppet also appeared, hiding a pair of brass knuckles held by Harley Cameron. Cameron, Hayter and Nightingale were not involved in the finish.

Penelope Ford and Queen Aminata, both injured in recent weeks and pulled from the match, made brief appearances.

Order of Entry:

  • Willow Nightingale and Skye Blue
  • Julia Hart
  • Harley Cameron
  • Thekla
  • Jamie Hayter
  • Megan Bayne
  • Kris Statlander
  • Mercedes Mone
  • Mina Shirakawa
  • Marina Shafir
  • Toni Storm

AEW Dynamite: Blood and Guts comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone & Bryan Danielson as they run down tonight’s card. The lights went out and a spotlight shown on Justin Roberts introducing us to the first ever Women’s Blood and Guts as the cage starts to lower. Two participants will start for 5 minutes, then “every few minutes” a new entrant will follow until all have entered and it’s submit or surrender.

TBS Champion Mercedes Mone, Megan Bayne, Marina Shafir & Triangle of Madness (Thekla, Julia Hart & Skye Blue) vs. AEW Women’s Champion Kris Statlander, Timeless Toni Storm, Willow Nightingale, Harley Cameron, Jamie Hayter & Mina Shirakawa in Blood and Guts

(Absolute chaos, as everyone in this match crushed it and certainly made the most out of this being the first ever women’s Blood and Guts. Each woman got their big moment and while we kept the Mone/Statlander, Sisters of Sin/Babes of Wrath feuds going, we really seemed to kick into gear Shafir as an absolute killer for her team and I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a match with Storm down the line. This had tons of violence, blood and everything you’d expect in a match like this. I don’t know if this will be an every year thing, but for this one, I thought this delivered.)

Skye Blue was out first with a barbed wire kendo stick, as Willow Nightingale was next with a trash can lid. Bell sounds and after some brief weapons shots, both ladies opt to start slugging it out. Nightingale rag dolled Blue around before trying a Doctor Bomb on the outside, but switched to a bounce back flapjack against the cage, as a huge Pounce followed, resulting in Blue bleeding a gusher. Nightingale tried a superplex, but Blue fought it off until Julia Hart sprinted to the ring and powerbombed Nightingale out of the corner. Hart hit her rope walk clubbing blow, as she & Blue tried finding something hidden in the turnbuckles, but it wasn’t there. Double front face suplex and thrust kick, as Harley Cameron is out next to make the save and chuck a chair at the bloody face of Blue, who Tony Schiavone said looked like a zombie. Hart was flattened with a Thesz Press, as Cameron hit locomotion splashes until Nightingale joined in. Hart was stuck in a Tree of Woe and ate a chair shot, while Nightingale hit a cannonball with the trash lid on Blue with things going to commercial.

Sisters of Sin gained control during break, but quickly had the tables turned with Nightingale dropping Hart with a Pounce, while Cameron beat down Blue in the corner. Thekla is out to complete the Triangle of Madness, hit a top rope cross body on Nightingale, did a Matrix into a Spear on Cameron before whipping the hell out of both loudly with a belt. Jamie Hayter out after about 90 seconds with a bag of thumbtacks, which she cracked Blue in the ribs with, as it came open. The barbed wire kendo stick came into play, as Hayter lit up all the Triangle of Madness. Hayter stood tall until Megan Bayne (the clean-up hitter as Schiavone called her) is out with Penelope Ford and a chair. Hayter charged with the belt, but Bayne mowed her down with a big boot, Cameron with a fall away slam and Nightingale with corner splashes. German Suplex sent Hayter flying, as Cameron tried smacking Bayne in the back with the trash lid, but Bayne no sold and laid out Cameron. Bayne just chucked a chair clear across the ring at Hayter, as Kris Statlander ran out with a pool cue, which she busted over the back of Bayne. Thekla was gorilla pressed into the cage and she slowly crumbled almost to the floor. Queen Aminata, in a neck brace, backed off Ford ringside, as back in the ring, Nightingale & Statlander teased a handshake, but were both attacked before it happened. Bayne & Statlander slugged it out after a face-off as we go to another break.

Things return with Cameron scaling the cage, smashing Bayne’s face against it, as Nightingale was there to powerbomb Bayne, while Cameron launched off the cage with a triple cross body on the Triangle of Madness. Mercedes Mone is out next, as during break, apparently a table was set up cage-side displayed with all her belts, as 4 other fellas were holding them, as Mone took a sip of champagne before heading to the ring. Crowd chanted CEO, while she got off some early offense until Statlander met her, tried a Tombstone on the AEW Women’s Title, but Mone countered into a Tornado DDT, spiking Statlander on the title (busting her open as well). Mone left the cage and started chucking her championships into the ring, handing them out to her teammates for weapons. Team Mone started cracking all of Team Statlander with the titles until Mina Shirakawa is out with a barbed wire bat, which she tossed to Bayne and dropkicked it into her face. Rope walk assist from Statlander saw Shirakawa leap from one ring to another on Blue & Hart. Marina Shafir was out last for her team and she power walked to the cage, as she dragged a bloody Statlander to the floor and violently slammed her into the barricade. Shafir unveiled a bed of nails that was apparently hidden ringside by the commentary table, as Statlander tried fighting her off, but was slammed back first onto the bed.

Shafir entered the cage and delivered judo throws until Timeless Toni Storm was out last, as she grabbed the champage bucket and also a handful of pearls, which she punched everyone with. The cage door locks and it’s now the first team to submit or surrender as Shafir no sold Storm and hit a 619 head scissors slam before Mone started lighting Storm up with a title belt. Storm started taping her fist up and dipped them into the champagne bucket of broken glass. Taipei Death Match Toni Storm, as she hit Shafir & Thekla (bleeding now) with a jabs before delivering dueling Sweet Cheek Music with Shirakawa heading into a third commercial break.

Table is set up between the cages, as Hayter powerbombed Blue off the cage onto the table, which didn’t break. It also didn’t break when Hayter leapt off the cage with an elbow either. Everyone finds themselves in Ring 1 and hit high impact shots until Storm dropped Shafir with a belt shot, but Mone was there to plant a kiss on Storm following up with a Mone Maker. Cameron appeared with Mini-Mone, which Mone ripped away and chucked aside, revealing Cameron had brass knuckles, which she smoked Mone with. Triangle of Madness dropped Cameron, as Hart & Thekla slipped through the truss of the cage and got the key from referee Mike Posey, as Thekla laid him out with a Spear. Hart opens the cage door, as Mone violently launched Hayter, Cameron, & Statlander to the floor. Hayter & Cameron were hit with a Spear by Thekla as Mone & Statlander started fighting up the cage, after Statlander slammed the cage door into Bayne’s face. Statlander got a single leg crab on Mone through the truss, until Statlander fell back with Mone into a Samoan Drop through the table.

In the cage, Storm started stabbing Blue & Shafir in the head with the heel of a shoe, as she dumps the remaining glass from the champagne bucket before hitting a double DDT with Shirakawa on Shafir, busting her open. Storm brought out a huge mirror, placed it into the face of Shafir, signaled for Sweet Cheek Music, but Shafir got up and chucked it into the face of Storm. Nightingale delivered a superplex off the top onto the separation of rings on Bayne, while Shirakawa locked in a Figure Four on her with the barbed wire bat between them. Shafir stepped on the broken glass with her bare feet and stomped on Shirakawa (who is bleeding also, now) to break the hold, as Triangle of Madness held off Storm, as Shafir locked Shirakawa in Mother’s Milk, while Bayne repeatedly smacked her with the TBS Title. Storm was in tears and reluctantly surrendered. Shafir was laughing, as she stood tall with Bayne & Triangle of Madness. Danielson on commentary said Storm did what she had to do for the one she loves.

Match Result: Mercedes Mone, Marina Shafir, Megan Bayne & Triangle of Madness defeated Kris Statlander, Timeless Toni Storm, Mina Shirakawa, Jamie Hayter, Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron when Storm surrendered for her team

-Video package on the upcoming Hangman Adam Page vs. Powerhouse Hobbs Falls Count Anywhere Match is shown

**********

-During the break, the Don Callis Family was in the process of trying to attack Jurassic Express backstage, as Mark Davis, Rocky Romero, Lance Archer & Josh Alexander dragged Jack Perry to the entrance of a trailer, which The Young Bucks walk out of with Kazuchika Okada. Alexander said this is what happens when you mess with The Family. Don Callis said next week, Kenny Omega is supposed to be in attendance and said it would be a great time to send him a message by joining the Don Callis Family. Okada said it’s decision time and walked away, as Matt & Nick said they’ll see them next week.

AEW Men’s World Champion Hangman Adam Page vs. AEW Trios Champion Powerhouse Hobbs in a Falls Count Anywhere Match

(It’s hard to believe on a night like tonight this could be seen by some as the cool down match. This was another obstacle for Page to hurdle before getting Joe at the PPV. I thought Hobbs looked great here and took some nasty bumps, especially for someone his size, I hope his back and tailbone are ok after this.)

Bell sounds and Hobbs immediately ripped a turnbuckle pad off the corner, so Page, who has his ribs taped from last week, did the same. Hobbs tried an early Snake Eyes into the corner, but Page put on the brakes, as both spill into the other ring. Page tried to leap off the top, but Hobbs mowed him down with a clothesline, ripping the bandages off the ribs. Hobbs threw Page back into the ring and opted to trash talk fans, allowing Page to hit a Tope, but Hobbs fought back, posting Page and chucking him into the barricade. Setting the ring steps up, Hobbs tried a charge, but ran shoulder first into them with Page dodging. Page leapt off the steps for a cross body, but Hobbs caught him with slams onto the apron and commentary table. Hobbs told Tony Schiavone this was his fault, as he walked up the steps with Page and delivered a World’s Strongest Slam.

It was all Hobbs during break, as Page was placed on the table, as Hobbs tried to stand up and stepped through the hole in the table initially. Hobbs wanted a powerbomb, but Page hit a massive backdrop that saw Hobbs land flush on his tailbone. Page brawls with Hobbs into the crowd, took a sip of a fan’s beer and moonsaulted off the railing onto Hobbs, who staggered deeper in the crowd. Page tried Dead Eye, but couldn’t get Hobbs up, so he settled for smacking Hobbs with a trash can. Page got a running start, but Hobbs planted him with a spinebuster through a table for two. The fans start fleeing as Hobbs & Page go higher into the crowd, as Hobbs wanted a World’s Strongest Slam off the balcony, but Page fought back, took his boot off, smacked Hobbs, who fell back crashing through tables and electrical boxes, causing sparks to fly. Page power walked down and made the cover for the win.

Page made his way to the ring, but was blindsided by Katsuyori Shibata in the post-match. Samoa Joe was in the ring with a chair waiting, as he cracked Page in the back and ordered the cage to be lowered. For some reason, it slowly started to, as Eddie Kingston & HOOK rushed to the ring, as Joe bailed with Shibata before the cage could lock Page in. Page took a mic and said if Joe wanted him in a Cage, all he had to do was ask, dumbass. Full Gear, leave Shibata at home & Hobbs at the hospital, Hangman Page vs. Samoa Joe, Steel Cage Match. Kingston & HOOK stand tall with Page, as Joe & Shibata leave furious.

Match Result: Hangman Adam Page defeated Powerhouse Hobbs

Tony Schiavone is in the ring and welcomes one of the all-time greats to put wrestling on the map on TBS, Ricky “The Dragon” Streamboat (no Ric Flair, who was announced on Collision for being here). Danielson put over the advice Steamboat gave him early in his career and it’s advice he’s carried with him to this day. Schiavone ran down Steamboats accomplishments and Steamboat pointed out a Mount Rushmore of Greensboro sign that had Ric Flair, Steamboat, Dusty Rhodes & Sting on it. Steamboat said Flair was his number one nemesis and in 1977 he came to Mid-Atlantic when Flair mentioned to Jim Crockett he’d like to do something with him.

FTR’s music cut Steamboat off, as Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler & Stokely came out. Steamboat shook their hands and was trying to put Harwood over, but Stokely cut him off and was booed out of the building. Stokely introduced himself to Steamboat, reminding him that he’s not Denzel Washington, so don’t get them confused. Stokely brought up how FTR will win the AEW Tag Titles at Full Gear and invites him to be there to watch FTR win gold and asks of Steamboat has Macho Man’s number, he hasn’t seen him on TikTok in a minute. Wheeler brought up how they were handpicked by Steamboat to wrestle in his retirement match, where FTR looked like miracle workers for making Steamboat look like a shell of his former self. Harwood said 13 years ago Steamboat was his trainer, a blessing, he taught him how to…but couldn’t think of anything, as Steamboat never said anything intelligent his entire life. Steamboat told Harwood to always save his money, which is ironic because if Steamboat & Flair took that advice, he wouldn’t be there tonight. Harwood said he’s a bigger legend than Steamboat ever was.

Steamboat tried to get in Harwood’s face and Harwood pie faced him, ordering Steamboat to get out of their ring. Steamboat said a few years ago, he would’ve told them to kiss his ass, but he’s about to be 73 and he’s going to be the smarter man today. Steamboat was going to leave, when Wheeler & Harwood attacked and were about to deliver a Spike Piledriver when Brodido rushed the ring to make the save. Bandido hit a 21-Plex on Wheeler, as Steamboat started laying out Harwood with chops, as King wanted Dante’s Inferno, but Stokely pulled him to safety. Brodido stood tall with Steamboat as FTR & Stokely scurried away, trash talking with fans.

Darby Allin, Roderick Strong, Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly & Orange Cassidy vs. Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, PAC, Wheeler Yuta & Daniel Garcia) in Blood and Guts

(This was a long one, violence aplenty, with the heels seemingly having this one in the bag, it was just the heart and drive of the babyfaces couldn’t have them quit. We had some all-timer violent moments in AEW history and some serious gushers. I was not expecting Kyle O’Reilly to be the MVP for this, but he was and it resulted in the biggest victory in his AEW career, they need to follow-up with this win for him. On the other hand, I don’t like the future for Jon Moxley with the Death Riders and I genuinely can’t wait to see the direction they go for all involved, so Blood and Guts was definitely mission accomplished.)

Darby Allin & Wheeler Yuta start for their respective teams, which delights Bryan Danielson, that Yuta will be punished for nearly an hour. Allin brought a skateboard to the ring, as Yuta immediately bailed from the cage, turned his back, as Allin flew in from off screen with a dropkick and proceeded to hammer throw Yuta from cage to barricade. Yuta side stepped a charging Allin and sent him back into the ring, where Allin quickly scaled the cage and hit a Coffin Splash and Code Red. Allin revealed his skateboard had tacks glued to it and raked it over the head of Yuta to “You Deserve It” chants. Yuta hit a low blow and Angle Slam to gain control, as Orange Cassidy saunters out next with his backpack in tow. Cassidy broke is own sunglasses and stabbed Yuta in the head with them before hitting a spinning DDT. Cassidy brought out a chain from the backpack, wrapped his fist and popped Yuta in the midsection. Allin ollied off the top rope with the tack covered skateboard onto Yuta’s back. Cassidy tried a pin, but those won’t count for a while. Daniel Garcia is out next to even the numbers, as he & Yuta beat down Cassidy & Allin with the chain as things go to commercial.

Back from break, Mark Briscoe was supposed to be next, but never came to the ring. Excalibur said there’s something going on backstage and threw it to Renee Paquette, who met Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly about to enter the locker room where doctors were tending to a downed Briscoe. Strong said he’ll take Briscoe’s spot and rushed to the ring, as O’Reilly stayed with Briscoe. Strong ran through Garcia & Yuta easily and ran to ringside to grab a chair just as Claudio Castagnoli was entering the match. Castagnoli launched Strong into the chair, as he delivered a Giant Swing to Allin while Cassidy was backpacked on him in an incredible visual. It wouldn’t be a match like this if Castagnoli didn’t gorilla press Allin, which he did from one ring to another. Strong is bleeding from the chair shot, as Garcia locked Allin in a surfboard and launched him off into a Castagnoli uppercut to the face. Kyle O’Reilly sprinted out next and dished out suplexes to Garcia & Yuta before laying out Castagnoli with a Tornado DDT into a Front Chancery. Castagnoli powered up, tried a suplex, but O’Reilly chop blocked the leg, Strong flew in with a knee and hit a double team with O’Reilly. In Ring 1, Cassidy was cracked in the ribs with a chair, while Strong took a suplex onto it. Yuta piledrove Allin on the chair as Death Riders stood tall into break.

Things return with Castagnoli gorilla pressing Cassidy and throwing him into the cage as Jon Moxley is out, fork in hand, with his team in full control. O’Reilly shot for a single leg, but got stabbed in the head as a result, as did Strong. Allin tried a Coffin Splash, but leapt into Moxley literally stabbing him in the back, raking the fork into the back. Moxley gave Garcia the fork, who gleefully raked the back before they sent Allin into the cage, where Allin fell to the floor. O’Reilly is shown bleeding a complete gusher, as Moxley went outside and grabbed some weapons from the women’s match, including some of the broken mirror Toni Storm had smashed in her face. The timer ran out, as Briscoe again was supposed to be out, but Renee Paquette via audio told us doctors told her Briscoe won’t be cleared to compete, as the attack was by The Don Callis Family, so it’s a 5-4 disadvantage. Moxley poured broken glass in the ring, where he hit an assisted Spike Piledriver with Garcia onto Allin, as Moxley dragged Allin back first into the glass. Death Riders set up tables in corners during commercial, as O’Reilly tried fighting back, only to be waffled with a chair by Castagnoli.

Back from break, Allin had climbed the cage and hit a falling Coffin Drop from the beam onto the Death Riders, as PAC was in last, the cages locked and the bell officially sounds, but Yuta somehow got control of the key to the cage. PAC easily dropped O’Reilly, who is bleeding buckets, while after a massive running start, Allin was turned inside out with a huge lariat. Mark Briscoe limped out from the back, doctors trying to stop him, but he has bolt cutters and he gets into the cage, smashing the door into Yuta’s face and chucking chairs at everyone in his path. Briscoe threw a toolbox into the ring, until he fought Yuta on the floor, dropping him with a suplex. Cassidy scurried to the toolbox and pulled out a wrench, smacking PAC. Strong had his fist wrapped in the chain and punching away at Moxley, as Cassidy joins with the wrench. O’Reilly raked a barbed wire bat against the head of Garcia, as Briscoe chucked a chair ringside at Yuta before setting a table up, looking high to the top of the cage. Garcia left the ring and made the save, but found himself placed on the table, as Briscoe climbed the top of the cage. Garcia thankfully rolled to safety before anything could happen, but O’Reilly appeared and locked in a cross-arm breaker. Yuta has now climbed the cage and started slugging it out with Briscoe, who won that battle. Briscoe threw a hook that was tied to the top of the cage down to O’Reilly, who tied it to a bunch of chairs and Briscoe hoisted them up to him. In trying to free all of them, Yuta was able to grab one and each swung for the fences with Briscoe winning another battle. Briscoe wanted a Jay Driller, but Yuta got a low blow and destroyed Briscoe with a chair shot to the head going to commercial.

We return to a bloody Briscoe & Yuta still fighting atop the cage, where Yuta wanted a Jay Driller of his own, but Briscoe spun out into a low kick and hit a Jay Driller flush. Back in the ring, Allin was choking Castagnoli with a hammer, but Moxley made the save with the fork. As Briscoe climbed down the cage, PAC attacked immediately, but Allin appeared and sent him into the barricade. Gabe Kidd then showed up with a taser and zapped Allin the ribs, choking him to the back. Garcia had a choke on Cassidy, who put his hands in the pockets, so Moxley got a staple gun and stapled them repeatedly. PAC & Kidd brought Allin up to the top of the entrance tunnel, as Kidd left and got lighter fluid, soaking two tables with it, setting it on fire. PAC pressed Allin high over his head, tossing him off the tunnel through the tables, causing Allin to roll around, thankfully getting himself out, as to me, doctors and refs were pretty slow to tend to him. Danielson on commentary said “what are we even doing here?”

In the ring, O’Reilly was locked in a Bulldog Choke by Moxley, who was also using the chain, but O’Reilly flipped him off. Garcia held Strong back, as Castagnoli went to Pillmanize the neck, but Cassidy slowly rolled in, ripped his hands free from his pockets and hit an Orange Punch. Strong flew in with a jump knee, Garcia was violently chucked into a table in the corner, while Briscoe took out PAC with a suplex through a table ringside. Yuta was tossed through a table, leaving Cassidy to try one final Orange Punch on Moxley, but Castagnoli cut him off, tried a pop-up uppercut, but Cassidy hit an Orange Punch in mid-air. Strong tackled Castagnoli into a table, leaving Moxley caught in an Ankle Lock by O’Reilly. Moxley briefly got a Bulldog Choke counter, but O’Reilly scrambled into an Ankle Lock with a kneebar and Moxley tapped out frantically.

Match Result: Darby Allin, Roderick Strong, Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly & Orange Cassidy defeated Death Riders when O’Reilly submitted Moxley

AEW extending Blood & Guts broadcast length

This Wednesday’s annual AEW Blood & Guts edition of Dynamite will be a supersized version of the show.

Revealed on the TBS schedule, the show has an allotted runtime of two hours and 30 minutes with the possibility of an overrun — something AEW head Tony Khan frequently takes advantage of.

As part of their new media rights deal with WBD, AEW has aired several extra-long episodes on Wednesdays, sometimes as long as four hours as was the case with June’s Summer Blockbuster and Fyter Fest shows. More recently, they have gone to two hours and 30 minutes for their anniversary show and up to three hours for combined Dynamite and Collision nights.

AEW Blood & Guts lineup | Wednesday, November 12 | Greensboro, NC

  • Women’s Blood & Guts match: Mina Shirakawa, Kris Statlander, Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron vs. Thekla, Skye Blue, Julia Hart, Marina Shafir, Megan Bayne & Mercedes Mone
  • Men’s Blood & Guts match: Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, PAC & Daniel Garcia vs. Mark Briscoe, Orange Cassidy, Darby Allin, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly

Announced at the tail end of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, AEW World Champion Hangman Page will face Powerhouse Hobbs in a falls count anywhere match on this Wednesday’s Blood & Guts episode.

The bout came to be after Hobbs and Page brawled up the entrance ramp during the Trios title match main event between Page, Hook and Eddie Kingston against The Opps. Hobbs put Page through a table with a jumping powerslam off the stage, taking him out of the match.

Challenge issued for first-ever women’s AEW Blood & Guts match

For the first time in its history, the women of AEW will have their first-ever Blood & Guts match in the near future.

Following her win on Collision over Julia Hart, Jamie Hayter was attacked by Hart, Thekla and Skye Blue before Queen Aminata ran out to help even up the odds.

Afterward, Hayter said she was tired of all this and there was only one way to settle things: Blood & Guts.

No other details were teased or given.

The five women have been feuding in different forms for months with former AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm among those also involved. Storm will appear on this Wednesday’s Dynamite for the first time since losing her title to Kris Statlander at last weekend’s All Out.

Once official, it will be the fifth edition of the double ring, double cage match designed to settle feuds between warring factions. The first came in May 2021 with the following year’s edition taking place in June. The 2023 and 2024 editions were both in July — all of which took place on an edition of Dynamite.

Tony Khan said on a recent media call to expect a Blood & Guts match by year’s end. During the week of October 5, the company is holding Homecoming editions of both Dynamite and Collision at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida — the location for the first-ever such Blood & Guts match.

Two new competitors have been confirmed for AEW Blood & Guts on July 24.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite that he will be part of Team AEW in the Blood & Guts match set for Dynamite on July 24. Strickland joins Mark Briscoe as the first two confirmed members of Team AEW. Three spots remain empty on Team AEW.

Also on Dynamite, Hangman Page officially joined Team Elite for the Blood & Guts match, as all five competitors for the team are now set.

Page joins Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson), Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada, and TNT Champion Jack Perry in making up Team Elite.

Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee will host this year’s Blood & Guts match on the Wednesday, July 24 Dynamite.

Not yet confirmed for the match but heavily teased in another segment on Wednesday’s show is Darby Allin.

Allin attacked Perry in a backstage angle on Wednesday’s show and issued a challenge to the TNT Champion for next week’s 250th episode of AEW Dynamite.

The Elite issues challenge for Blood & Guts match on AEW Dynamite

Blood and Guts is returning next month.

AEW Dynamite on Wednesday opened up with The Elite interrupting Swerve Strickland., who was in the ring cutting a promo. They issued a challenge to the AEW locker room to take them on in a Blood and Guts match. Matthew Jackson told Swerve that they needed a fifth man and were willing to put their differences aside if he would join them.  Swerve rejected the offer, which led to a brawl. The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn ran down for the save.

Tony Schiavone later announced on the show that Blood and Guts would take place on the July 25 edition of Dynamite in Nashville, Tennessee at the Bridgestone Arena.

The Elite have been on a roll since their reformation earlier this year, winning the Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing in May. The Elite have also boasted about putting people like Eddie Kingston and FTR out of action, with Kingston and Dax Harwood both off the road with injuries.

The Golden Elite win Blood & Guts match on AEW Dynamite

The Golden Elite claimed victory in the annual Blood & Guts match on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in Boston.

The Golden Elite squad of The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson), Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, and the debuting Kota Ibushi defeated the Blackpool Combat Club side featuring Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Konosuke Takeshita, and PAC via submission when Yuta passed out while being choked with a chain by Page. It appeared at first that the call was a referee stoppage, but commentary pushed that Moxley submitted with Yuta unable to respond while being choked out.

The finish came after PAC and Takeshita walked out on the match, The Young Bucks kept Castagnoli at bay, and Moxley was handcuffed to the ring ropes. PAC walked out after a series of miscommunication spots with Castagnoli, while Takeshita bailed on the match at the behest of Don Callis as it became clear that The Golden Elite had the upper hand.

The wild brawl included Matt Jackson hitting a series of northern lights suplexes on Yuta on the top of the cage, glass, thumbtacks, a table, a chair, a bed of nails, as well as the aforementioned chain and handcuffs.

The Pinnacle (MJF, Wardlow, FTR & Shawn Spears) defeated The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana & Ortiz) in the first Blood & Guts match on the May 5, 2021 Dynamite.

In last year’s edition, Blackpool Combat Club (Moxley, Castagnoli & Yuta) and Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz defeated The Jericho Appreciation Society (Jericho, Guevara, Hager, Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard & Angelo Parker) on the June 29, 2022 Dynamite.
