Chad Gable removed from WWE Money in the Bank qualifying match

Chad Gable is no longer set to compete in a WWE Money in the Bank qualifying match next week.

A triple threat match between Gable, Braun Strowman, and Bronson Reed had been announced for Raw next Monday, but Ilja Dragunov is taking Gable’s place in the qualifier. The change was announced via a graphic that was shown on the latest episode of WWE Main Event. It comes after Gable was the victim of an attack by the Wyatt Sicks.

The new faction debuted at the end of Raw earlier this week. As part of their introduction, a bloody Gable was shown backstage in Gorilla position after being decimated by the Wyatt Sicks.

Uncle Howdy, Erick Rowan, Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis, and Joe Gacy have been confirmed as members of the Wyatt Sicks. Led by his brother Taylor (Bo Dallas/Uncle Howdy), the group is a tribute to the late Windham Rotunda (Bray Wyatt).

Before the attack, Gable lost to Strowman in a singles match on Raw. Alpha Academy then imploded — seemingly for good — with Otis, Maxxine Dupri, and Akira Tozawa leaving Gable.

Gable recently signed a new WWE contract. He lost to Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn at Clash at the Castle last weekend.

Jey Uso and IYO SKY have already qualified for this year’s respective Money in the Bank ladder matches. The event is taking place in Toronto on Saturday, July 6.

The updated card for next Monday’s Raw is listed below:

WWE Raw (Monday, June 24) —

  • Men’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Braun Strowman vs. Bronson Reed vs. Ilja Dragunov
  • Women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match: Lyra Valkyria vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane

Otis & Alpha Academy leave Chad Gable on WWE Raw

Otis and the rest of Alpha Academy have left Chad Gable.

After months of build, Otis finally had enough on Raw. After Gable lost to Braun Strowman, he began to yell at Akira Tozawa and took away Maxxine Dupri’s crutch. When Otis heard Gable slapping Tozawa, he reacted by shoving Gable to the corner, walking away with the rest of Alpha Academy.

Later backstage, Otis was seen packing as Gable entered the room and yelled at him for what had happened. Otis replied that they were done with Alpha Academy as he, Dupri, and Tozawa left the locker room. Gable in response said they were expelled, saying he would win Money in the Bank and do something that Otis had never done, cash in the briefcase successfully.

Relations within Alpha Academy started to crumble in the weeks following WrestleMania when Gable turned on Sami Zayn. He then began berating the rest of Alpha Academy, encouraging them to do his bidding, which they did reluctantly. At Clash at the Castle, Otis chose to help an injured Maxxine Dupri to the back rather than help Gable, who ended up losing his chance at winning the Intercontinental title.

Chad Gable: WWE heel turn was ‘kind of my idea’

Chad Gable discussed his heel turn and feud with Sami Zayn in a recent interview.

Gable appeared on The Gorilla Position ahead of Clash at the Castle on Saturday and said that he felt as though he’d “almost flatlined as a babyface” around WrestleMania. After having come up short against Gunther and Sami Zayn, Gable says he needed a change.

“The whole idea to turn heel was kind of my idea,” he said. “I felt like I had almost flatlined as a babyface somewhere around WrestleMania. Came up short against Gunther a few times, then short against Sami. And at a certain point, something’s got to change or the people are not going to buy into you any further.”

Gable continued to say that they realized WWE’s show in Montreal would be a perfect opportunity for him to turn heel.

“We made it happen and just the stars aligned perfectly and I feel like it just worked out in our favor,” Gable continued. “Since then, Otis is this perfect, sympathetic guy that you can’t help but feel bad for. So, really we’ve just got everything in our favor working for us right now and it’s great that the story is going so well.”

Gable came up short again against Zayn in Glasgow this weekend. He hasn’t been announced for a segment on tonight’s Raw as of yet.

WWE Clash at the Castle press conference notes: Triple H on Chad Gable re-signing, culture change

WWE stars and chief creative officer Triple H took questions from the media following WWE Clash at the Castle.

Along with Triple H, CM Punk, Damian Priest, and new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn answered questions following their involvement with WWE’s premium live event in Scotland Saturday:

Abla Fyre & Isla Dawn

  • They said that winning the titles Saturday in Scotland was something that they had been working so hard for. The fact it was in Scotland was icing on the cake.
  • When asked about ICW, Dawn credited them for building a scene in the United Kingdom.

Damian Priest

  • The first question was regarding the status of his knee. Priest said that it felt like “trash”, but hadn’t been able to get it checked out by medical staff as he immediately went to the press conference to answer questions.
  • When asked about CM Punk, Priest said he would love to share the ring with him, but he would have to earn it.

CM Punk

  • Punk was touted as a surprise last minute addition following his appearance in the main event of Clash at the Castle.
  • The first question asked was about his status. He said he was cleared only for “referee duty.” He mentioned something about a “hiccup” out there and needed to reassess. However, he said that he has been given permission to skip Raw in Corpus Christi, Texas to go to Chicago to get medically cleared. He hopes he can announce that at SmackDown this coming Friday.
  • Someone asked if he would face Drew McIntyre in a Hell in a Cell match on his first match back. “Brother, you gotta take that fantasy booking s*** somewhere else,” Punk bluntly said.
  • He said that since coming back, the climate has changed. It’s a completely different culture. He said someone told him that he was happy he returned so that he could experience the culture change that has gone down, and said they credited Punk with starting it.

Triple H

  • Said that Clash at the Castle is the biggest arena gate in WWE’s history, surpassing the record broken by last month’s Backlash France. He said that they would be returning to the United Kingdom this fall.
  • He brought up that Alba Fyre’s mother had passed away recently and said that the title win tonight wasn’t because of that. He stressed that it was because they were incredibly talented women and deserving of the honor of winning the titles in Scotland.
  • He also praised CM Punk, saying they’d see him back “soon”. He credited Punk with creating a new atmosphere and brought up how they saw things differently in the past. He can’t say how happy he is to have him back to “see the Phil Brooks I wanted to see then.” Triple H said Punk was a “pleasure” to be around.
  • The final question was regarding Chad Gable re-signing. Triple H praised him, saying that he would like to see Gable in WWE “forever” and perform at the highest level possible. The environment has changed and Gable is part of that change. He’s just thrilled that Gable is here where he should be.

Chad Gable says he has re-signed with WWE

Image: WWE

Chad Gable will not be hitting the free agency market anytime soon as the no. 1 contender to the Intercontinental title says he has re-signed with WWE.

Gable revealed the news talking to Gorilla Position during an answer about Paul Levesque. He didn’t give any details in terms of deal length past that he is sticking around.

He also talked about how his career trajectory went toward the positive when Levesque took over on creative after Vince McMahon resigned — even before the current push he and Alpha Academy have received.

The news comes hours before Gable is set to challenge Sami Zayn for the aforementioned title at Clash at the Castle in Glasgow, Scotland.

Gable’s contract expired recently and while there was some speculation as to whether he would explore the market, there was no real indication that he was going to leave. Our Dave Meltzer recently reported that Gable received an “excellent offer” to stay and that some within AEW were pushing Tony Khan to sign Gable if he became available.

The 38-year-old began in the WWE system in 2013 after signing a developmental deal following his outstanding run as an amateur wrestler and a brief stint on the indie circuit. He has held the WWE Raw and SmackDown Tag Team titles in addition to the NXT Tag Team titles in his career.

WWE of the belief Chad Gable is staying

WWE is of the belief that Chad Gable is staying with the company.

Though his WWE contract coming up brought some speculation about Gable’s future, Dave Meltzer reports that WWE expects Gable to remain with them. That always seemed like the most likely option with Gable receiving a strong push even when his contract was slated to expire soon. Gable is challenging Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental title at WWE Clash at the Castle this Saturday.

“WWE is of the belief Chad Gable will be staying,” Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. “He’s getting the biggest push of his career right now and has become a real highlight of the Raw show. As noted, there were people in AEW pushing for him. FTR, who had some of their best matches with Gable & Jason Jordan years ago in the program that really made both teams in NXT, have always pushed for him in AEW, but he got a great offer to sign a new deal.”

June 7 was reported to be the date that Gable’s WWE deal expired.

Since turning heel this April, Gable’s character has been a bully to his Alpha Academy stablemates. We’ll see if Otis helps Gable win at Clash at the Castle or if he stands up for himself and turns against the Alpha Academy leader.

A new faction with Gable & The Creed Brothers forming has been teased as a potential direction going forward.

WWE makes ‘excellent offer’ to re-sign Chad Gable, AEW interested in potential free agent

Image: WWE

Chad Gable’s potential free agency has drawn the attention of both the incumbent WWE as well as AEW.

Gable’s current WWE deal is set to expire imminently according to recent reporting by Fightful unless an extension or a new deal is reached.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE had “made an excellent offer” to keep Gable and that AEW has interest if his deal expires as “key people” within the company are pushing Gable to Tony Khan. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp stated he has also heard about internal discussions within AEW about Gable, but didn’t have an update on the star’s current contractual status.

The Alpha Academy leader is currently involved in a heavily-pushed storyline with WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn and will challenge Zayn for the championship at next weekend’s Clash at the Castle. There have been no indications to this point that Gable is leaving.

The 38-year-old began in the WWE system in 2013 after signing a developmental deal following his outstanding run as an amateur wrestler and a brief stint on the indie circuit. Gable has held the WWE Raw and SmackDown Tag Team titles in addition to the NXT Tag Team titles in his career.

Intercontinental title match added to WWE Clash at the Castle

Chad Gable is getting another Intercontinental title shot.

On Raw, Sami Zayn was in the ring when Maxxine Dupri, Akira Tozawa, and Otis came to the ring. Dupri read a note from Gable saying that he wouldn’t be there to confront Zayn and proceeded to ridicule the rest of Alpha Academy. After Gable mentioned he wanted another Intercontinental title match, Zayn agreed to defend the title against Gable at Clash at the Castle on June 15 if it meant ending the feud once and for all.

After Zayn accepted Gable’s challenge, Gable jumped him from behind. Zayn managed a comeback but during the brawl accidently hit the ropes, causing Dupri and Tozawa to fall off the apron and to the floor. Otis, conflicted, eventually blamed Zayn for the accident and laid him out with a forward slam.

Later backstage, Gable praised the rest of Alpha Academy for their work, ignoring that Tozawa and Dupri were hurt from the accident. Gable told Otis that he was proud of him and they would win the Intercontinental title together.

The lineup for Clash at the Castle so far:

  • World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest defends against Drew McIntyre
  • WWE Women’s Champion Bayley defends against Piper Niven
  • WWE Intercontinental title: Sami Zayn defends against Chad Gable

WWE contract notes: Becky Lynch, Natalya, Chad Gable, Ricochet

Several WWE stars have their contracts slated to expire soon.

– Tomorrow (June 1) is the final day of Becky Lynch’s current contract with WWE. Last weekend, Lynch dropped the Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan at King & Queen of the Ring. She then lost to Morgan again in a steel cage match on Raw.

Lynch will now be taking time off from WWE. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that her absence is expected to be a “very extended” one:

Lynch’s contract expires on 6/1. As many speculated really since Mania, she is going to be taking time off. My gut says that was the plan after her loss to Ripley, but when Ripley was injured, they brought her back in a short program to get over Morgan and have Morgan win the title from someone credible to build Morgan up for the Ripley program. It was described to us as not a retirement, but a very extended absence.

– Meltzer confirmed that Natalya’s contract is also up soon. Natalya has been offered a new deal by WWE but has not signed it yet:

Natalya’s contract also expires soon. She’s been offered a new deal but as of this week hadn’t signed it.

Recently, Natalya has spent time competing in NXT in addition to being on the Raw roster.

– Fightful reports that Chad Gable’s WWE contract is set to expire next week unless a new deal is reached, while Ricochet’s contract is scheduled to expire this summer. WWE is interested in re-signing both of them.

Since turning heel last month, Gable has been strongly pushed as a challenger for Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn. There haven’t been any signs that Gable will be leaving. A new faction with Gable and The Creed Brothers has looked to be in the works.

Ricochet is the inaugural WWE Speed Champion and is involved in a feud with Bron Breakker and Ilja Dragunov on Raw.

In an interview with Comicbook.com last week, AEW star Will Ospreay said he believed Ricochet’s WWE contract might be up soon. Ospreay, who wants to wrestle Ricochet again, said he thinks the way WWE has utilized Ricochet is “appalling.”
