Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman were joined by Nigel McGuinness on this week’s episode of ROH television, taped last Wednesday in Pittsburgh, PA as part of the AEW Dynamite taping.

ROH Women’s World Title Proving Ground Match: Athena defeated Lady Frost

Frost used her acrobatic skills to get the upper hand on Athena, taking her up and over with a headscissors. Athena kicked her in the face on an up-and-over in the corner to take control. Frost laid in some shots after Athena paintbrushed her, but Athena dropped her with a backbreaker. Frost kicked Athena into the corner before cartwheeling into a cannonball.

Frost went to the top rope, but Athena got up and cut her off. Athena talked trash, which allowed Frost to hit a hurricane kick to take her down. Frost went to the top rope and hit a corkscrew moonsault, but Athena rolled to the ropes to avoid a cover. When Frost tried picking her up, Athena popped up into a big forearm for the win. After the match, Athena drove Frost into the title belt on the mat to get the final word in.

– The Kingdom talked about their frustrations in ROH lately in a lengthy video package. Instead of getting a rematch against the Briscoes at Final Battle, they lost to Top Flight. Instead of honoring Jay Briscoe by winning the tag team titles at Supercard of Honor, four other teams got in their way and took that from them. Now, they are not going to stop until they get back at all of the teams that were in that match.

La Faccion Ingobernable (Preston Vance & Rush) (w/Jose The Assistant) defeated The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Shawn Dean)

Vance hammered Bravo to start, drilling him with a big boot to send him down. Vance went to finish this match off quickly with the Full Nelson, but Dean cut him off after yanking Rush off of the apron. Vance took both men down with discus lariats before tagging in Rush to finish off Bravo with the Bull’s Horns for the emphatic victory.

Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta) defeated Joe Ocasio & Mookie Summers

Ocasio took the fight to Beretta, but Beretta shot out of the corner with a running knee to cut him off. Taylor dropped Summers with a pop-up powerbomb. Both Taylor and Beretta hit Ocasio with piledrivers before hitting Summers with a doomsday knee for the win.

Brian Cage (w/Prince Nana) defeated Leon Ruffin

A quality squash match here. The crowd got into Ruffin’s comeback before Cage efficiently shut him down.

Cage threw Ruffin around with ease before Ruffin fought out of a suplex with knees. Ruffin went for a top-rope crossbody, but Cage caught him and dropped him with a front slam. Cage went for an F-5, but Ruffin dropped him with a DDT. Ruffin evaded Cage and hit a cutter out of the corner for a close nearfall to a big pop. Cage hit a spinning lariat to shut Ruffin down, then hit a powerbomb over the knee. Cage won with a Sharpshooter-style submission hold.

The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) defeated The Trustbusters (Jeeves Kay & Sonny Kiss) (w/Slim J)

The Righteous watched from the stage as Kay got a jump-start on Uno. Kiss tagged in and hit a handspring into a slap. The Trustbusters tried to double-team Uno, but Uno hit a suplex on Kay while Kiss hung onto his back. Grayson tagged in and ran wild, leading to a kick-assisted brainbuster on Kay. Dark Order dropped Kiss with an electric chair throw into a powerbomb, then pinned Kay after a Grayson kick led to an Uno powerbomb. Grayson and Uno confronted The Righteous on the stage before walking off.

– Christopher Daniels was in the back with Dasha Fuentes, who asked what was next on his journey to victory. Daniels said this was one of the lowest points of his career. But he was going to earn his keep in ROH, and he wouldn’t start at the bottom. He called out Samoa Joe, noting their long history with each other, and challenged him to a TV Title match next week.

Skye Blue defeated Diamante

An early pinning predicament sent Diamante scurrying to the ropes. Diamante caught Blue in the ropes and hit a neckbreaker before sending her to the floor with a baseball slide. Diamante worked over Blue before Blue fought back, hitting a crossbody off the top rope for a nearfall.

Blue hit a rising knee and a low kick that sent Diamante to the apron. They got into a forearm exchange before Diamante caught Blue with a German suplex on the apron. Diamante hit a corner dropkick, but Blue got the ropes on the cover. Diamante tried rolling through a Skyfall attempt, but Blue stuffed the roll-up and got the win.

After the match, Athena came out with Blue’s custom hat and stomped on it, sending Blue a message.

Lee Moriarty (w/Big Bill) defeated Rocky Romero

Moriarty’s hometown crowd got behind him in the opening moments of this match. Romero tied up Moriarty in the ropes and hit a dropkick. Big Bill menaced Romero on the outside, allowing Moriarty to knock Romero off the apron and drive him into the barricade. Moriarty tore at Romero’s arm, popping his fingers while in an armbar. They traded arm control before kicking at each other’s arms, leading to a Romero tornado DDT.

Romero drilled Moriarty with chops and the Forever Clotheslines, but Moriarty misdirected Romero and hit a clothesline of his own. Moriarty hit the Tiger Driver ’18 for a nearfall. They traded arm submissions before Romero rolled up Moriarty for a nearfall. A strike battle ended with Romero hitting the rewind kick that sent Moriarty to the floor. Romero hit a headscissors off of the steps before hitting a Sliced Bread in the ring for a nearfall.

Romero caught Moriarty with a hurricanrana to the floor, but a dive caught Big Bill instead of Moriarty. Bill responded with a chokeslam to the apron while the referee was distracted, leading to Moriarty hitting a leg lariat for the win.

– Rocky Romero was in the back, unhappy that Lee Moriarty outsnuck the King of Sneaky Style. He challenged Moriarty to a Pure Rules rematch next week.

Blake Christian defeated Gringo Loco

Loco and Christian worked quickly, with neither man gaining an advantage until Loco avoided a Fosbury Flop and hitting a dive of his own. Christian cut off Loco in the ring and speared him on the apron before hitting the Fosbury Flop. Back in the ring, Loco cut off a Spanish Fly attempt with a head kick. Christian came back with a springboard into a handspring kick for a nearfall. Loco came back with a powerbomb for a nearfall.

Loco went to the top rope, but Christian met him there. Loco got control and hit an inside-out Spanish Fly type move for a nearfall. Loco took Christian up again, this time in Electric Chair position, but Christian tried to powerbomb him out. Loco landed on his feet, so Christian followed him with a Spanish Fly. Christian hit Loco with a springboard 450 to score the win.

AEW Dark results: Blake Christian, Dark Order in action

This week’s AEW Dark was taped last month at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Harley Cameron (w/ QT Marshall & Aaron Solo) defeated Mafiosa

Cameron dominated from the get go, slamming Mafiosa to the mat. Seconds later, Cameron took a selfie with her in the midst of the match, humiliating her. Shortly after, Cameron finished off Mafiosa with a backstabber.

– Brock Anderson & Brian Pillman Jr. cut a backstage promo about furthering their dominance as a tag team.

Blake Christian defeated Lee Johnson

Johnson and Christian locked up early, but Johnson gained the advantage after nailing Christian with a cheap shot. Johnson then whipped Christian into the turnbuckle, causing him to crash to the mat.

After a vertical suplex, Johnson tried to pin Christian but ended up with a near fall. Christian responded with a ripcord Spanish fly for his own near fall. Christian then tried to hit a 450 splash, but Johnson rolled out of the way at the last second. Instead, Christian met Johnson on the apron, speared him to the floor, and dove onto him to a big crowd reaction.

Christian then tried to dive onto Johnson with a springboard splash once he rolled back in the ring, but Johnson got the knees up. Moments later, Christian hit his double curb stomp on Johnson to pick up his second straight win.

Brock Anderson & Brian Pillman Jr. (w/ Arn Anderson) defeated The Wingmen (Cezar Bononi & Ryan Nemeth) (w/ Peter Avalon)

An early tag from Nemeth to Bononi led to stomping on Pillman’s midsection and neck area. Nemeth came back in and taunted before resorting back to his beatdown of Pillman.

Anderson eventually got a hot tag and laid in a few shots on Nemeth before sending Bononi crashing out of the ring. Seconds later, Anderson trapped Nemeth in a small package to score the victory.

Mei Suruga & Emi Sakura defeated Reka Tehaka & Ashley D’Amboise

Suruga & Sakura jumped Tehaka & D’Amboise as the bell rang. Sakura hit a double crossbody on both her opponents in the corner before Suruga got on Sakura’s shoulders, allowing the pair to hit the cannonball slam.

Sakura then hit her signature piledriver on D’Amboise, but Tehaka broke up the pin at the last possible second. Moments later, Sakura hit her signature moonsault on D’Amboise to pick up the victory.

Zack Clayton defeated Jake Logan

Logan was able to get in some early offense, but Clayton spilled the match to the outside and tossed him into the ringside steps. Clayton then positioned Logan on apron and sent him crashing to the mat with a over-the-top suplex. Clayton quickly put away Logan with a modified brainbuster shortly after for his sixth straight win.

Dark Order (John Silver & Alex Reynolds) defeated Varsity Athletes (Tony Nese & Josh Woods)

Woods had an early advantage on Reynolds as the two traded various strikes. Reynolds fought back and was able to nail Woods with a dropkick from the middle rope. Woods tagged in Nese after pulling Reynolds’ shoulder through the middle rope.

Nese continued to focus on wearing down Reynolds while frequently exchanging tags with Woods. The match turned when Silver finally got the hot tag and took out Woods with a uppercut before turning his attention to Nese and nailing him with a series of kicks.

Silver and Reynolds were looking for a top rope move of some sorts when Ari Daivari ran down to the ring and pushed Silver off the top rope. Evil Uno leveled the playing field shortly after and tossed Daivari into the steel steps.

Silver and Reynolds then hit a lifting uppercut on Woods which took him out of the bout. The Dark Order duo hit their signature striking combination on Nese which ended with Reynolds getting the jackknife pin to score the win.

Blake Christian under Ring of Honor/AEW agreement

Indie journeyman Blake Christian now has a contractual home.

Fightful reported Friday that the 25-year-old is now under an agreement with Tony Khan’s Ring of Honor via AEW. They didn’t report whether it was a full-time deal or a tiered contract.

Christian didn’t directly acknowledge the signing, but did tweet the following Friday afternoon:

Christian was part of last month’s ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view in a pre-show trios match, teaming with Tony Deppen and Alex Zayne against Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony. He also appeared at April’s Supercard of Honor in a loss to Colt Cabana.

He has worked a handful of AEW Dark matches as well and competed three times at their July tapings at Orlando’s Universal Studios. Of all the AEW matches that have aired thus far, he is 1-2.

The former WWE NXT wrestler had also appeared for Impact, GCW, NJPW, and a variety of indie promotions. He was released in 2021 from WWE NXT after a short run there under the name Trey Baxter.

Moxley successfully defended his belt against Tony Deppen at GCW You Wouldn’t Understand on Saturday. Christian then came out to confront him after the match. He also called out Moxley on social media last month after the champion was announced for the show.

“Home state boy calling out the champ,” Christian wrote on Twitter

Only one other match is currently scheduled for the show. Joey Janela will face Psycho Clown in singles competition. Bandido and Bussy (Effy & Allie Katch) are advertised to appear as well.

Moxley has held the title since defeating Matt Cardona at GCW The Art of War Games on September 4, 2021. He has since defended it against Nick Gage, Homicide, AJ Gray, and Deppen.

Blake Christian on his hectic WrestleMania weekend schedule, improving while in WWE

When Blake Christian was released by WWE in November 2021, he wasted no time getting back to work, keeping a busy schedule that has seen him wrestle Minoru Suzuki for GCW and David Finlay for NJPW Strong with dates against Will Ospreay for Warrior Wrestling and Black Taurus for PWG coming soon.

Ahead of his appearance Saturday for Pro Wrestling Revolver, I had the opportunity to talk to the former Trey Baxter in WWE following WrestleMania week in Dallas, Texas. Not only was that weekend his first experience wrestling a ton of shows during one of the biggest wrestling weeks, but also wrestling for four major promotions in a single day.

That day saw him take on Colt Cabana at ROH Supercard of Honor, New Japan Strong against JONAH, the Clusterf**k Battle Royal at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 6 and the Ultimate X match at Impact’s Multiverse of Matches show.

“That’s my memorable moment to say that I was the first person to do this and maybe the only person to do this,” he said.

“I was scheduled for (Mania weekend) two years ago right when the pandemic hit and then it was all taken away. I had a lot of good stuff lined up then and then the second one, I was obviously signed with WWE and I couldn’t. But just to be able to experience it the way I did, I was hustling. I was coming out of WWE and I really wasn’t expecting to hustle like that. But, I mean, I am happy because overall, I love wrestling. The money is great, but I love to wrestle and to be able to wrestle that many times and on such a big weekend that was special to me.”

Christian had signed with WWE in February 2021 before his release later that year. He wrestled just five matches in NXT, took part in their Breakout Tournament, and had five matches on 205 Live.

Christian talked about his sudden release and whether he was surprised.

“I was upset and it kinda came out out of nowhere but also, at the same time, especially because you are around so many people that have had it before…you kind of always expect it. You hear the rumors and then you’re like, ‘Okay, maybe it’s me.’ Sometimes it is and in my case, it was me.”

He said he gained a lot during his short time with WWE.

“When I came out of WWE, my work kind of showed for itself. I was still hustling like I was before WWE, but I was also more polished and better. So, I don’t think that I went there and just didn’t get better.”

“I made a lot of connections that I never thought I would have: Scotty 2 Hotty, Matt Bloom, Robbie Brookside and especially William Regal. To talk to him and to have sit down sessions with him and just talk wrestling, that was overall cool with me. Those moments made it worth it. I made those connections with people I idolized.”

Would ever he ever consider going back to WWE?

“I think the phrase here is never say never. I am enjoying a lot of what I am doing right now. I just did some stuff with AEW, now ROH, so I am really enjoying that. I am wrestling a lot more, so I am enjoying that.”

Christian takes on Trey Miguel, Ace Austin and Lince Dorado in an Revolved Remix title match Saturday for PWR, available on FITE.TV.
