Mercedes Mone: Wrestling at Wembley Stadium was ‘such a dream come true’

Mercedes Mone got to accomplish one of her pro wrestling dreams at AEW All In 2024.

One year after appearing in the Wembley Stadium crowd at All In 2023, Mone was in the ring for this year’s event, retaining her TBS Championship against Britt Baker. Mone told WTOP News in Washington, D.C. that wrestling at Wembley was an amazing experience and “such a dream come true.”

“I’m still on a high from it,” Mone said. “Last year I was just a fan in attendance with a broken heel dreaming about which company I’m going to be in. Now this year performing at All In at Wembley was such a dream come true, it was so amazing, the crowd was electric and I can’t wait to do it all again next year at All In in Dallas, Texas. It’s been such an exciting time for professional wrestling because of AEW — and I enjoy being the face of TBS.”

There was a 31-year break between London’s Wembley Stadium hosting WWF SummerSlam 1992 and AEW All In 2023. Though All In will be in Texas next year, AEW is bringing the pay-per-view back to Wembley in 2026.

Mone said she had a “really good time” in her match against Baker but did sense some audience fatigue from the live crowd.

In addition to holding the TBS Championship, Mone is the NJPW Strong Women’s Champion. She’s defending the latter belt against Stardom’s Momo Watanabe at NJPW Capital Collision tonight (August 30).

Will Ospreay: AEW All In was the ‘coolest thing I’ve ever done’

Wrestling at Wembley Stadium was the coolest thing Will Ospreay has ever done.

This August, Ospreay defeated Chris Jericho at AEW All In London. It was a significant moment for Ospreay and for pro wrestling in his home country of England. After the show, Ospreay got a tattoo commemorating the moment. It includes All In’s paid attendance number (81,035).

In a new interview with Comicbook.com, Ospreay reflected on what All In meant to him. Ospreay revealed what was going through his head when his music hit:

Oh man, I was scared. I just remember feeling like I’ve done it now. The maximum I’ve ever performed in front of was 40,000 at Wrestle Kingdom. This was twice as many. I was worried that my stuff was going to get lost, or not as big of a reaction as what it could get. Maybe I’m not the guy that they really want in this position. Maybe it should have gone to someone else. That’s all going through my mind.

The moment the music was playing, just that bit of the piano, I could just feel my heart coming out of my chest. So flipping scared. Family’s here. Everyone is here just wanting to just enjoy wrestling in England, wrestling of this caliber and stage.

Ospreay noted that it felt like everything was going in slow motion as he made his entrance. Ospreay said All In is the coolest thing he’s ever done in his career.

Going out and hearing people sing my song… man. I literally heard people screaming it and then pointing up to the sky and when the fireworks were going off. Just watching it, it felt like two minutes. It felt like everything was going in slow motion. Then to get in the ring and the bell rung and then just 80,000 people do the ‘Olé!’ chants. Oh man, it was just the coolest thing. It was the coolest thing I’ve ever done.

Ospreay was also in action at AEW’s WrestleDream pay-per-view last month. He teamed with Konosuke Takeshita & Sammy Guevara in a victory over Jericho, Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi.

With his NJPW contract set to expire in February, Ospreay is an impending free agent. Ospreay has said he’s looking to explore every single option in contract talks.

Ospreay is facing Jon Moxley and David Finlay in a three-way match at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom on January 4. The winner will receive a new championship that NJPW is creating to replace the IWGP US/UK Championship.

Will Ospreay: Wrestling at AEW All In was life-changing

Wrestling at Wembley Stadium was a life-changing experience for Will Ospreay.

After competing at AEW All In, Ospreay sent out a message on social media reflecting on the moment. Ospreay thanked the fans for all of the support they’ve ever given him. He wrote that it was an honor to represent NJPW, his family, and British wrestling at Wembley.

The gratitude I have for you all that have followed my career throughout this crazy journey is genuinely overwhelming. Last night you & AEW truly changed my life. Honoured not only to represent my family, NJPW but represent British wrestling at Wembley Stadium. Thank you so much for everything.

Ospreay defeated Chris Jericho at All In. In his social media post, Ospreay revealed that his gear for the match featured a list of the British wrestling promotions he’s worked for. Ospreay’s gear included a tribute to his late friend and tag team partner Ryan Smile as well.

Earlier this month, Ospreay announced that the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship was now the IWGP United Kingdom Championship. Ospreay defending the title against Zack Sabre Jr. has been set up for NJPW Royal Quest III in London this October.

Ospreay has also been announced for October’s Impact Wrestling Bound for Glory pay-per-view.

Rey Fenix expected to miss AEW All In

On today’s media call, Tony Khan spoke of a change in the card that he wouldn’t go into likely because it would involve a storyline.

Multiple sources have noted that Rey Fenix is trying to establish residency in the United States and for that reason, has not left the country of late. It was noted to us that the reason he didn’t go to Triplemania and drop the Latin American title is for that reason, and he was instead stripped of both that title and the AAA cruiserweight title.

It’s not clear when the promotion found out that Fenix wouldn’t be able to go. Obviously when they put the show together the belief was he would be available.

Fenix is wrestling Jon Moxley tomorrow night on Dynamite in Duluth, Georgia. One would expect something storyline related to come out of this match unless somehow his not being available was able to be fixed at the last minute, but multiple sources did say as of earlier this week he was off the show.

In checking on potential replacements, Bandido was touch-and-go but badly wanted to be on this show. He just got the pin removed from his broken wrist yesterday so it would be early, but not impossible.

El Hijo del Vikingo pulled out of his GCW dates this past weekend because he’s banged up but also would be available for a show at this level.

Fenix was scheduled to team with Eddie Kingston, Penta El Zero Miedo, Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta & Chuck Taylor against Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and three mystery partners in a Stadium Stampede match at Sunday’s pay-per-view in London.

Chris Jericho & Fozzy to perform ‘Judas’ live at AEW All In

In addition to wrestling at AEW All In, Chris Jericho will also be doing a live musical performance.

Chris Jericho revealed on Tuesday that he and the rest of Fozzy will be performing his “Judas” theme music live at All In. The show is taking place at Wembley Stadium in London this Sunday (August 27).

“For the first time ever, I’m going to sing myself to the ring with Fozzy playing live,” Jericho said. “We are going to be playing ‘Judas’ live for you in Wembley Stadium at All In.”

Fozzy are also playing at O2 Forum Kentish Town in London on Friday night. Jericho said these are Fozzy’s two biggest shows ever.

“So it’s going to be a huge weekend,” Jericho said. “Not just for AEW, not just for Chris Jericho, but for Fozzy as well. Our two biggest shows ever.”

Jericho is facing Will Ospreay in a singles match at All In. The match was announced after Ospreay attacked Jericho on last week’s episode of Dynamite.

Report: Cash Wheeler expected to wrestle at AEW All In

Despite his recent arrest, it’s expected that FTR’s Cash Wheeler will be wrestling at AEW All In this Sunday.

SI FanNation reported today that Wheeler is expected to be in London for Sunday’s pay-per-view at Wembley Stadium. FTR are scheduled to defend their AEW Tag Team titles against The Young Bucks at the event.

It was revealed on August 18 that Wheeler was facing a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. The charge, which is a third-degree felony, stems from a July 27 incident where Wheeler is alleged to have pointed a handgun at another motorist while driving. At an arraignment last Friday after Wheeler turned himself in, the matter was referred to as a “road rage-type incident.”

Wheeler has no prior history with the alleged victim.

“There is no certainty on whether Wheeler informed AEW CEO Tony Khan ahead of time about the arrest,” SI FanNation wrote. “Khan is conducting a media briefing session this afternoon, and the topic of FTR, and specifically Wheeler, is bound to arise. Considering the magnitude of Sunday’s show, it is likely in AEW’s best interests to have Wheeler perform at All In and then deal with consequences after the show.”

A video package still promoting the FTR vs. Young Bucks match aired on AEW Collision this past Saturday.

All In at Wembley Stadium is the biggest event in AEW’s four-year history. The pre-show starts at noon Eastern time on Sunday (August 27). The main card then begins at 1 p.m. Eastern.

Update on rumored matches for AEW All In

In the new edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave an update on what the card for AEW All In may look like.

Meltzer mentioned Chris Jericho vs. Will Ospreay as a rumored match for All In, along with Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta vs. Eddie Kingston, Orange Cassidy, and a partner. It was also noted that Kenny Omega vs. Konosuke Takeshita may end up taking place at All Out, with a six-man tag between Omega, Hangman Page & Kota Ibushi and Takeshita, Jay White & Juice Robinson being rumored for Wembley.

If the rumored Chris Jericho vs. Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta vs. Eddie Kingston & Orange Cassidy & ? match is accurate, those would likely be announced or at least strongly teased this weekend since Kingston and Ospreay will be available on Wednesday.

The Kenny Omega vs. Konosuke Takeshita match may end up on All Out in Chicago, and a rumored match at All In was Omega & Adam Page & Kota Ibushi vs. Jay White & Juice Robinson & Takeshita.

All In is being held at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, August 27. Just one week later, the United Center in Chicago will host All Out. Both events are pay-per-views.

Here’s a look at what’s been made official for All In so far:

  • AEW World Champion MJF defends against Adam Cole
  • AEW Tag Team Champions FTR defend against The Young Bucks
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida defends against Toni Storm and two other challengers in a four-way match (Saraya vs. Skye Blue and Britt Baker vs. The Bunny will decide the other two participants)
  • Coffin match: Sting & Darby Allin vs. Swerve Strickland & AR Fox
  • Pre-show: ROH Tag Team Champions Aussie Open defend against MJF & Adam Cole

CM Punk vs. Samoa Joe has also been set up for All In but hasn’t been officially announced yet.

VIDEO: AEW is heading to Wembley Stadium for All In

Dave Meltzer talked about AEW attempting to fill up Wembley Stadium on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Meltzer on Tuesday discussed the news of AEW heading to the stadium in August for the second-ever All In event. He pointed out that if 90,000 people do end up going to All In, it could break the all-time attendance record set by WWE back at WrestleMania 32 in 2016.

“If they have a stage, could they? I don’t know. I don’t really expect them to get anywhere near that kind of number…it’s quite the ballsy move,” Meltzer said.

Meltzer said that while WWE is ahead of AEW in every metric in the UK aside from ratings, AEW could do a successful number if they do a loaded-up show as it would be their first time running a show in the country.

“They’ve never done the super loaded up show they have the ability to do,” Meltzer said. “They’ve done loaded pay-per-view shows, but never in a market like London, which has a really great shot…those people will know there’s a big show.”

“If it’s not the biggest and their best lineup in history, it may be tough,” Meltzer later added.
