WWE announces new movie theater partnership ahead of SummerSlam

WWE has entered into a new partnership that will make SummerSlam available to watch in some movie theaters.

It was announced via Deadline today that WWE is partnering with movie ticket company Fandango for a multi-event collaboration that starts with SummerSlam. Fans will be able to watch the PLE at select Regal Cinema theaters across the country, with both single-night and two-night bundle tickets available. The two-night bundle also includes an exclusive SummerSlam T-shirt.

“While Regal will be the official exhibitor for SummerSlam, additional exhibitors are expected to join for future WWE live events,” Deadline wrote.

SummerSlam is taking place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3. It’s the first two-night SummerSlam in history. The show will stream live on Peacock in the United States and Netflix elsewhere.

Among the matches scheduled are John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes, Gunther vs. CM Punk, Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill, and a triple threat between Naomi, Rhea Ripley, and IYO SKY. Country music star Jelly Roll will make his in-ring debut on the card, teaming with Randy Orton against Logan Paul & Drew McIntyre.

“WWE is one of the most electrifying global entertainment brands, and its events deserve to be experienced on the big screen,” said Will McIntosh, the president of Fandango. “We’re thrilled to work with WWE and Regal Cinemas to bring the action-packed SummerSlam 2025 cinema presentation to fans nationwide.”

Back in 2022, WWE had a movie theater partnership with Fathom Events for that year’s WrestleMania. The promotion currently has a deal with Cosm to air PLEs in immersive reality at Cosm’s venues in Los Angeles and Dallas.

New title matches & stipulation set for WWE SummerSlam

A new stipulation and two title matches are now set for SummerSlam.

The end of Friday’s SmackDown saw John Cena and Cody Rhodes come out for their SummerSlam contract signing ahead of August 2 & 3. However, Cena attempted to throw off Rhodes by announcing that he wasn’t going to defend the title at SummerSlam as he was going to film a movie and instead offered to do it in Paris or in Perth, the site of future WWE PLEs.

Cena attempted to leave but Rhodes attacked him instead. The two fought over the WWE title, with Rhodes grabbing the title and this time smacking Cena with it, unlike WrestleMania where he hesitated. After putting Cena through a table, he announced that the SummerSlam match would be a street fight.

Solo Sikoa will defend the United States title against Jacob Fatu in a steel cage match. A show-long storyline saw Sikoa implicate Fatu in a car accident that opened Friday’s show. After the police cleared Fatu of any wrongdoing, he stormed to the ring and sent Sikoa and the MFT in retreat. That is where Adam Pearce announced the title match for next month.

The segment ended with the police coming out and, in a twist, arrested Sioka.

It was also revealed on Friday that Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss would be getting a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles in Detroit. Flair gained momentum for her team by defeating Raquel Rodriguez in a match thanks to help from Bliss on the outside.

Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul crash ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ for pre-WWE SummerSlam brawl

An angle building up WWE SummerSlam went down on late-night TV last night.

Just a couple weeks away from making his WWE in-ring debut, country music star Jelly Roll guest hosted Wednesday night’s edition of “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” His upcoming tag partner Randy Orton was a guest on the show. But seven minutes into the interview, the two were interrupted by their SummerSlam opponents.

Drew McIntyre crashed the show, insulting Jelly Roll by calling him “trailer trash.” A brawl between Orton and McIntyre then broke out and spilled backstage. Logan Paul took that opportunity to confront Jelly Roll and bully him by slapping him in the face — but it was Jelly Roll who came out on top after chokeslamming Paul through the talk show’s desk.

Full video of the angle can be watched below:

At Saturday Night’s Main Event last weekend, it was confirmed that Orton & Jelly Roll will face McIntyre & Paul at SummerSlam 2025. The two-night PLE will emanate live from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3.

This will be the 40-year-old Jelly Roll’s first match, but he’s a big WWE fan and has made multiple appearances for the company dating back to 2023. Jelly Roll told “The Pat McAfee Show” that, in preparation for this match, he’s been training at the WWE Performance Center training every day for the past few weeks.

Jelly Roll to make in-ring debut in WWE SummerSlam tag match

Jelly Roll is officially set to make his in-ring debut at WWE SummerSlam.

The 40-year-old country music star will team up with Randy Orton when they take on Logan Paul & Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam. After the build to the match began on Friday’s SmackDown, it was officially confirmed tonight during Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Orton and McIntyre faced off in a singles match tonight with Jelly Roll and Paul in their respective corners. Jelly Roll and Paul got into it at ringside, which led to McIntyre being distracted and losing to an RKO from Orton.

There was then a post-match angle where Paul attacked Orton. Jelly Roll made the save, dropping Paul with a punch. But when Jelly Roll went to check on Orton, McIntyre laid the musician out with a Claymore.

Later in the show, Jelly Roll & Orton did an interview where they challenged Paul & McIntyre for SummerSlam. WWE has since confirmed the match.

Jelly Roll has been nominated for four Grammys in his music career. He’s a big WWE fan who first interacted with Orton on an episode of Raw in 2023. Some of Jelly Roll’s popularity is due to him being seen as an inspirational figure that’s overcome a difficult past where he dealt drugs and spent time in jail. He’s also dropped approximately 200 pounds from his highest weight.

This is the first two-night SummerSlam in history. It’s being held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3, and rap star Cardi B will be the host of the show.

Three matches have been announced so far (nights to be announced):

WWE SummerSlam 2025 —

  • Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena defends against Cody Rhodes
  • WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton defends against Jade Cargill
  • Randy Orton & Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe to host ‘WWE Late Night’ during SummerSlam weekend

After hosting a roast of WrestleMania earlier this year, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe is back for another round.

WWE announced today that Hinchcliffe will host “WWE Late Night” in Englewood, New Jersey at 11 p.m. Eastern time after night one of SummerSlam weekend on Saturday, August 2. Like with his roast of WrestleMania, this is a non-televised event that will not officially be broadcast anywhere.

The Bergen Performing Arts Center is the venue for the comedy show. A ticket pre-sale begins this coming Monday (June 30) at 10 a.m. Eastern time with the general public on-sale then starting the next day.

“Hinchcliffe, the internationally renowned comedian, one of the top roasters in the world and the mastermind behind Kill Tony, will bring together soon-to-be-announced top comics, entertainers and WWE Superstars for an unforgettable night of laughs and huge surprises,” WWE wrote.

While Hinchcliffe’s WrestleMania roast in Las Vegas this April was not televised and cellphone use was supposed to be prohibited, a full audio recording ended up leaking online. It generated controversy for — among other things — jokes made about Charlotte Flair’s appearance and marital history.

A trademark for “WWE Late Night” was filed by the promotion on June 20.

SummerSlam 2025 is taking place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on August 2 and August 3 — making this the first two-night SummerSlam in history.

Rapper Cardi B hosting WWE SummerSlam 2025

Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi B will host the first-ever two-night WWE SummerSlam set for August 2025.

Appearing in a vignette for the show on Friday’s WWE SmackDown, Cardi B announced that she will host both nights of SummerSlam this year set for Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3.

Involvement from the 14-time BET Hip Hop Award-winning musician was expected after she appeared in the original promo video announcing the event.

MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey will host the first two-night SummerSlam. The venue has served as the host for two WrestleManias in the past in 2013 and 2019.

Tickets for SummerSlam will go on sale on Friday, May 2, with a pre-sale for WWE mailing list members set for Wednesday, April 30.

SummerSlam will also be a two-night event in 2026, with WWE bringing their biggest show of the summer to Minneapolis’s US Bank Stadium.

The New York/New Jersey market hosted SummerSlam each year from 2015 to 2018 at Barclays Center. The event became a stadium show beginning in 2021, being held in an NFL stadium each year since. Cleveland hosted the 2024 edition at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

WWE bringing two-night SummerSlam to New Jersey in 2025

WWE is bringing SummerSlam to the New York/New Jersey area next year.

The company revealed today that SummerSlam 2025 will take place from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3. This marks the first time SummerSlam has ever been a two-night event, though WWE has already announced that SummerSlam 2026 from Minneapolis will also take place over two nights.

MetLife Stadium is the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets. It hosted WrestleMania 29 in 2013 and WrestleMania 35 in 2019.

WWE has partnered with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority for this deal to bring SummerSlam 2025 to MetLife Stadium.

“New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and the entire NJSEA team have been phenomenal partners, hosting several major UFC events in recent years including the record-breaking UFC 302 in June,” Peter Dropick — TKO Executive Vice President of Event Development and Operations — said in a press release. “We’re excited to bring WWE back to New Jersey in a major way with the first-ever two-night SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium.”

SummerSlam is returning to the New York/New Jersey area for the first time since the Barclays Center in Brooklyn hosted the event from 2015-2018.

Ticket information for the show has not been announced yet, but WWE has a mailing list for fans interested in pre-sale information when it becomes available.

Bianca Belair and superstar rapper Cardi B appeared in WWE’s video announcing the SummerSlam 2025 date and location:

LA Knight: Kevin Nash was a ‘sweetheart’ in WWE SummerSlam interaction

LA Knight enjoyed the interaction he had with Kevin Nash backstage at WWE SummerSlam.

Nash had taken some shots at Knight on his podcast in the past, including calling Knight “an absolute ripoff of The Rock.” But Nash said there was no heat between the two when they spoke in catering backstage at SummerSlam. Nash said Knight seemed like “a really nice guy.”

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Knight also described the interaction as a positive one.

“It’s funny because he came up while I was sitting in catering, talking to a couple of guys, and he came up, and I felt this hand on my back, and he said hello and we talked for a minute,” Knight said.

“He was asking about the match, and everything was cool and hunky dory. I am a mirror in a lot of ways – I give back whatever I receive. We could talk trash, and whatever he says on the podcast or what I say here and there, it could go either way. If he had come in talking, you know, craziness or whatever, I’d have probably responded in that regard. But he was a sweetheart, and I was a sweetheart right back.”

Knight defeated Logan Paul at SummerSlam to become the new United States Champion. It’s the first title Knight has held on the WWE main roster.

On SmackDown tonight (August 23), Knight is making a title defense against Santos Escobar.
