Impact Wrestling live results: Slammiversary go-home show

Days before she defends her title at Slammiversary, Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo will put her title on the line on Thursday’s Impact on AXS TV in an open challenge.

Purrazzo will defend against Trinity on Saturday’s pay-per-view if she is able to survive whoever steps up Thursday.

Ahead of their Ultimate X match Saturday, “Speedball” Mike Bailey will take on NJPW’s Kevin Knight.

The Rascalz will look to punch their ticket into a multi-team Tag Team title match Saturday if Zachary Wentz can defeat Chris Bey in singles action.

Two of the teams involved in that title match will go head-to head as Moose & Brian Myers take on Rich Swann & Sami Callihan.

Digital Media Champion Joe Hendry teams with Yuya Uemura against Kenny King & Sheldon Jean. Hendry will defend his title against King on Saturday.

The BTI pre-show match will be Dirty Dango vs. Heath after the two have been on a collision course in recent weeks.

**********

Dirty Dango defeated Heath

Santino Marella joined the commentary desk for this match, talking about his issues with Dirty Dango. Part way through the match, Dango cussed about Santino’s daughter, which set him off, and resulted in Dango decking Santino as security held Santino back. Heath hit the wake up call on Dango, but Dango got his foot on the ropes, and then rolled up Heath before putting his feet on the ropes again, but this time to cheat to get the pin.

Impact Wrestling Main Show

We were shown highlights of Deaner on Busted Open Radio with Bully Ray, where he explained why he wanted to take the injured Steve Maclin’s place against PCO and Scott D’Amore, with Deaner saying Jeff Jarrett was the guy who brought him into TNA, and D’Amore has always had a grudge against him.

Zachary Wentz (w/ Trey Miguel) defeated Chris Bey (w/ Ace Austin)

This was an excellent opening match, typical of that X-Division style Impact became famous for (one of the few positives in those early TNA days). Bey and Wentz put on a great, fast paced match that setup the tag title match for the future.

After a series of quick exchanges, Chris Bey got distracted on the floor by Trey Miguel, letting Wentz to hit a kick to Bey to drop him. Wentz and Miguel cheated behind the referee’s back, allowing Wentz to get the heat for a few minutes. Bey countered a shoulder lock into an arm drag and soon hit a Code Red for a 2-count. Bey called for a “too sweet” chant from the crowd, and Miguel got on the apron.

Ace Austin pulled Miguel from the apron, and Miguel sprayed spray paint into the eyes of Austin and superkicked him. Chris Bey hit a dropkick through the middle and bottom ropes, and skinned the cat back into the ring, but got hit with a spray paint can in the gut by Wentz, who then hit a cravat into a DDT on Bey for the win.

–The Rascalz walked up to Santino and Scott D’Amore and asked Santino for a tag title match for Slammiversary, but Santino refused because they cheated. Miguel said that he would pay for that.

–A short promo video aired for Alex Shelley and Nick Aldis, highlighting their story, focusing particularly Alex Shelley’s career for nearly 20 years in Impact. It then shifted focus to Aldis and his journey back to Impact and his own history in TNA, before going back to Shelley saying that he was one of the ones that reinvented the wheel, and didn’t get to where he was by being over 6 feet tall, or a big guy, but by wrestling in a way that inspired an entire new generation of wrestlers.

He isn’t wrong. Alex Shelley is one of the most influential wrestlers of the last 20 years with his in ring work (particularly while teaming with Sabin), as they were mentors to the Young Bucks and countless others. This was awesome.

Mike Bailey defeated Kevin Knight

Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight delivered a PPV quality match on free TV here. This was awesome, and Bailey gave Knight a ton and made him look like he could win at any moment. Excellent match.

This match did not disappoint, with Knight and Bailey flying all over the place right away. Knight tried to hit a plancha over the ropes to the floor, but Bailey ran into the ring, hit the ropes and as Knight got back onto the apron, hit a pump kick and then a triangle moonsault to the floor. Incredible.

Bailey hit his series of kicks in the ring before hitting an enziguri and slamming Knight to the mat again. Bailey hit two knees to the back of Knight and got a 2-count. Bailey hit a sole butt and a series of hard kicks to Knight before going for a standing shooting star press. Knight moved, but Bailey landed on his feet. Knight got up and hit an Okada style dropkick, and then a second one shortly thereafter as Bailey was seated on the top rope.

Knight went for a springboard, but Bailey superkicked the ropes to kick them out from under his feet before hitting flying knees off the top rope onto the back of Knight for another 2-count. Knight hit a hurricanrana on Bailey who was seated on the top rope by jumping up and hitting it, but Bailey got up and hit a superkick as Knight dived towards Bailey.

Bailey went to the top rope and Knight leapt to the top rope and hit a top rope superplex for a 2-count. Bailey and Knight exchanged pinfall attempts before Knight went for a jumping DDT, but Bailey dumped him over his head into the corner and hit a tornado kick before hitting Ultima Weapon for the win. Fantastic match.

–Masha Slamovich and Killer Kelly had a video package where they talked about how they were going to destroy the Coven at Slammiversary. This was a very good promo.

–Joe Hendry came out and cut a promo on Kenny King, calling him “Stripper Kenny,” but noted that the fans chanting it would hurt his feelings, so the fans chanted it. Hendry then said that the fans believed in him, and his tag partner Yuya Uemura.

Kenny King & Sheldon Jean defeated Joe Hendry & Yuya Uemura

This was all sorts of fun. Perfect comedy match.

Kenny King wore a sweater throughout this match, as he did not want the fans chanting “Stripper Kenny” at him, and Hendry told him that he shouldn’t be ashamed. They worked spots around that until Hendry went for a power bomb, and grabbed the sweater. King tried to escape, and since Hendry was holding the sweater, the sweater was left with Hendry. King immediately tried to hide his chest, and ran from the ring and out of Center Stage. Hendry then hit the Standing Ovation on Sheldon Jean for the win. This recap does not do this tag match justice, but that spot was hilarious.

–Lio Rush had a promo video where he talked about how he came to Impact to win the X-Division championship. This was very good.

–Chris Sabin was with Gia Miller and talked about how Lio Rush was one of the most talented wrestler he has ever seen, but that he was arrogant, and cocky, but smart because found the cheat code to jump ahead of everyone else in line, but now he had to face the final boss, Chris Sabin. Good promo.

Moose & Brian Myers defeated Sami Callihan & Rich Swann

Myers and Swann started the match, with Myers shoving Swann to the mat. Callihan helped flip Swann off the apron onto both Moose and Myers on the floor. Moose shoved Swann off the top rope to the floor, and Myers pounced on Swann, hitting mounted punches on the floor. Moose continued to get the heat on Swann when they came back from break, hitting a big uranage on Swann before tagging out to Myers.

Swann managed to make the tag, and Callihan hit a DDT on Myers and a flatliner on Moose at the same time, before hitting a combo bulldog and clothesline on both men too. Moose and Callihan hit headbutts on each other before dropping each other with clotheslines. Swann hit a handspring cutter on Myers, but Moose shoved Callihan into Swann to break the pin. Moose and Myers kept having miscommunications, leading to Callihan sending Swann to the top rope with a hurricanrana on Moose.

Callihan hit a Death Valley Driver and then Swann hit a 450 splash, but Moose kicked out. Callihan went for a Cactus Driver on Moose, but Myers pulled Swann from the ring, distracting the referee, letting Moose hit a low blow on Callihan and a spear for the win.

–Subculture cut a promo via video, saying that they were going to win the Impact Tag Team titles at Slammiversary and they were doing it for anyone that felt left out, or like an outcast.

–Alan Angels had a promo video, talking about how he was in this match to win the Ultimate X match to become the #1 contender to Sabin’s X-Division championship. This promo also made it clear that he was no longer in The Design.

–After running down the card for Slammiversary, Nick Aldis had a promo video for his journey back to Impact and hit title match against Alex Shelley. Aldis said he was sick of the “you deserve it” mentality, and called Shelley a huge hypocrite, saying it was utter nonsense that the Machine Guns owned the house that was Impact Wrestling. Aldis said that it was ridiculous that they built Impact, because they weren’t there when he beat Jeff Hardy, Sting, Samoa Joe, and Kurt Angle. Aldis claimed that Impact management wanted him as champion, and it was on Alex Shelley to prove he wasn’t a transitional champion, and if Shelley could beat him, it would prove his legacy, but it was up to him. Excellent promo.

–Deonna Purrazzo came down to the ring to issue an open challenge for the Impact Knockouts Championship.

Impact Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo defeated Jody Threat to retain

Purrazzo immediately played to her strengths, going for are more ground based and technical match, while Threat tried to counter, with limited success. Before going to the break, Purrazzo did a Pentagon Jr. style arm break spot and continued to work over the arm when they came back from break. Purrazzo tried to suplex Threat from the top rope, but Threat managed to turn it around and hit a suplex on Purrazzo instead. Threat hit the ropes and hit a pump kick and double knees to the back of Purrazzo before hitting a German suplex for a 2-count.

Threat went to the top rope and hit a cannonball off the top rope before hitting a clothesline for a 2-count. Threat went for a burning hammer, but Purrazzo landed on her feat and as Threat charged Purrazzo, Purrazzo countered into a Fujiwara armbar, but Threat got to the ropes. Threat hit a Michinoku Driver on Purrazzo for a 2-count. Purrazzo countered a F416 into Venus de Milo and got the submission for the win.

–Gisele Shaw and Savannah Evans ran down to attack both Threat and Purrazzo, which brought out the Death Dollz, which brought out The Coven, which brought out Killer Kelly & Masha Slamovich, which brought out Trinity, and both Trinity and Purrazzo cleared the ring before breaking into a brawl with each other that security had to separate. All teams broke off into their own feuds, with The Coven brawling with Slamovich and Kelly, and Shaw and Evans brawling with the Death Dollz.

–Impact closed with a final hype video for Impact Slammiversary, which was excellent.

–The show closed with Scott D’Amore on the phone, saying they tried everything, and apparently this time PCO can’t come back to life, but he was wondering if the person on the phone could, before focusing on a Team Canada jersey. I think we may see Eric Young return to Impact here, since he died on screen when Deaner killed him, and it would fit for him getting revenge on Deaner.

Final Thoughts

Excellent go home show for Slammiversary from Impact tonight, as every major match got good promotion tonight with hype videos, promos, and angles. Ring of Honor TV live results: Athena, The Mogul Embassy in action

Ahead of her Owen Hart Foundation tournament semifinal match on Friday’s AEW Rampage, Ring of Honor Women’s Champion Athena will be in action on tonight’s ROH on HonorClub.

Athena will take on Ava Lawless in non-title action before she faces Willow Nightingale on Friday.

ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage, Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun) will also be in non-title action as they take on Christopher Daniels, Darius Martin & Matt Sydal.

Leyla Hirsch will be in singles action for the first time in over a year as she goes one-on-one with Bambi Hall. Hirsch returned last week after recovering from a torn ACL.

Big Bill will take on Serpentico after he and Cage were eliminated from the AEW Tag Team title eliminator tournament Wednesday.

The rest of the eight-match card will see Shane Taylor, The Kingdom, and The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent) & Stu Grayson in action.

*********

– Ian Riccaboni started the show by throwing to Matt Sydal in the back. Sydal called out Prince Nana and Brian Cage after his Blind Eliminator Tag Team loss on last Friday’s Rampage. Cage told Sydal to find some partners, and they’ll have themselves a six-man tag.

This week’s ROH comes from the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, the home of last Saturday’s AEW Collision. Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman were on the call.

Big Bill defeated Serpentico

Bill used his size and strength advantage to shoot Serpentico to the floor. Serpentico came back into the ring and threw several strikes before baiting Bill to chase him. Serpentico knocked Bill off the apron and hit a dive to the floor. Serpentico went to the top rope, but Bill avoided the dive before tossing Serpentico with ease.

Serpentico sent Bill into the corner with a dropkick, but Bill flung him away. Bill hung Serpentico on the ropes before booting him to the floor. Bill brought Serpentico back into the ring and put Serpentico away with a massive chokeslam.

– Ian Riccaboni announces the ROH TV Title Eliminator tournament. This week, Dalton Castle will wrestle Tony Nese, and Shane Taylor will wrestle Capt. Shawn Dean. The winners of those matches will wrestle next week to determine Samoa Joe’s challenger for Death Before Dishonor.

Non-Title Match: Athena defeated Ava Lawless

Lawless tagged Athena with a slap and a forearm before dropping her with a slingblade. Athena nipped up and dropped Lawless with a forearm before clubbering on her. Athena locked on a crossface to score the quick submission win, holding onto the submission after the bell. After the match, Athena dropped Lawless face-first on the belt.

The Righteous (Dutch, Vincent, & Stu Grayson) defeated Evan Rivers, Levi Knight & Michael Allen Richard Clark

Grayson got a jump-start on Rivers, sending him up and over with a belly-to-belly suplex. Knight tagged in but was quickly overwhelmed by Grayson and Dutch. Evil Uno made his way to ringside with a chair as Grayson dropped Knight with a uranage. Grayson and Vincent double-teamed Knight, but Knight found a way to tag out to Clark. Clark ran wild for a moment, but Grayson cut him off with a knee strike. The Righteous ran through their big moves before finishing off Clark with their triple-team T-Slam.

After the match, Evil Uno hit Knight with a chair, showing the violent streak the Righteous wanted to see.

– Backstage, Lexy Nair was with Matt Sydal. He announced that his partners would be Christopher Daniels and Darius Martin.

Leyla Hirsch defeated Bambi Hall

Hirsch cut off Hall with a kitchen sink knee before bringing her down with an arm wringer. She tied Hall up in the ropes before drilling her with lariats in the corner. Hirsch clubbered on Hall in the corner and cut Hall off on a comeback attempt with a back elbow. Hall hit a corner charge, but Hirsch fought off Hall’s shoulders and hit a German suplex. Hirsch locked on an armbar to score the win.

ROH TV Title Eliminator Tournament Semi-Finals: Dalton Castle (w/The Boys) defeated Tony Nese (w/Ari Daivari & Mark Sterling)

Nese cuts a heel promo on the crowd, saying that “nobody likes a smelly Regina.” I’m a child, so I laughed at that line. He led group exercises before Dalton Castle made his way to the ring.

Nese almost got caught in the Bangarang early on but fought out and clubbered on Castle. Castle caught Nese coming off of the ropes and hit a big overhead suplex. Castle held control with a waistlock but Daivari and Sterling took his attention, allowing Nese to hook Castle over the ropes before dropping him with a clothesline. On the floor, Nese ducked a Castle clothesline, with Castle hitting the ringpost instead.

Nese dropkicked Castle in the corner before hitting a spinning heel kick for a nearfall. Nese dropped Castle on a dropdown, but Castle avoided the triangle moonsault. Castle ran wild with suplexes. After some shenanigans with the Varsity Athletes and the Boys, Castle dropped Nese with the Bangarang to win and move on to next week’s tournament final.

ROH TV Title Eliminator Tournament Semi-Finals: Shane Taylor defeated Capt. Shawn Dean

Dean had a stick-and-move strategy with Taylor, which worked until Taylor moved him to the mat with a forearm. Taylor battered Dean with heavy strikes to the head and body before hooking him up in a bearhug. Dean fought out and avoided a corner charge before rocking Taylor with a jumping knee. Taylor caught Dean with a uranage, but Dean moved out of the way of a second-rope splash.

Dean caught Taylor with a butterfly DDT and went to the top rope, but Taylor got the knees up on a splash. Taylor talked trash, allowing Dean to fight back. But Taylor dropped Dean with a headbutt and scored the win with a knockout elbow shot. Next week on ROH television, it will be Dalton Castle vs. Shane Taylor with a shot at the TV Title at Death Before Dishonor on the line.

The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) defeated The Boys (Brandon & Brent)

Taven started with Brent, knocking him down with a suplex. Taven talked trash before dropping Brent with a spinning heel kick. Bennett and Brandon tagged in, with Bennett controlling Brandon with chops before dropping him with a forearm. The Kingdom hit a tag team combo for a nearfall, surprised at the kickout.

Bennett caught Brandon in a Kimura Lock, but Brandon got to the ropes. Brandon made the tag to Brent, who ran wild on the Kingdom. The Boys got some tandem offense in, dropping Taven with a standing sliced bread before taking Bennett down with a double-team neckbreaker. Bennett cut off another double-team move, dropping Brent with a DVD. They hit the Rockstar Supernova on Brandon for the win.

The Mogul Embassy (Bishop Kaun, Brian Cage & Toa Liona) (w/Prince Nana) defeated Christopher Daniels, Darius Martin & Matt Sydal

I saw the news during this match that the Mark Briscoe/Claudio Castagnoli title match for Death Before Dishonor was off due to an injury to Briscoe. That leaves us, eight days before the pay-per-view, with ZERO matches booked for the show. This has been a complete waste of a PPV build. What were they thinking giving time to heat up Diamante, Leyla Hirsch, or Big Bill over the past few weeks when there was a PPV right around the corner that none of them are booked for? Maybe they are booked for it, I wouldn’t know either way! I’m confident that Khan will pull out a good card for the show on the night, but this weekly show – which I remind you is behind a paywall – feels like a complete waste of my time.

Ian Riccaboni ran down the cards for this week’s Rampage and Collision. It would be nice if they ran down the card for Death Before Dishonor, but you would need some matches to talk about for that to happen. Daniels and Kaun started off, with Daniels’ team pinballing Kaun in their corner. Sydal and Martin teamed up, keeping Kaun off-balance. Kaun tagged in Liona, but he hit the post on a dive, allowing Daniels to tag in.

Liona caught Daniels with a pop-up Samoan Drop before Cage sent Daniels flying with a fallaway slam. The Embassy clubbered on Daniels in their corner. Daniels caught Liona in a rollup, but the referee’s attention was with the Embassy in the corner. More clubbering on Daniels, but Daniels was able to fight to the corner and tag out to Martin.

Martin ran wild on the Embassy team, scoring a nearfall on Kaun that got broken up by Cage. Cage caught Martin with a pop-up into a superkick, but Martin cut off Cage and got the tag to Sydal. Sydal ran wild on Cage, dropping Cage with a series of kicks for a nearfall. Kaun took Sydal down, leading to a Cage F-5 for a nearfall. Cage set up for a Screwdriver, but Sydal caught him with a hurricanrana for a nearfall. Sydal caught Cage with a knee, allowing the babyfaces to run wild. Sydal hit a Meteora on Cage for a nearfall that Kaun broke up. Things broke down into a Pier Six brawl before Cage and Sydal were alone. Sydal caught Cage with an inside cradle, but Cage kicked out and dropped him with a spinning lariat. Cage scored the win with a Screwdriver.

**********

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone and Taz, as they throw it to the entrances for our opening contest.

Chris Jericho submitted Komander (w/Alex Abrahantes)

(This was a good back and forth opener with commentary really putting over how unique it was for Jericho to be out here and win on his own, as no Jericho Appreciation Society members were ringside. Komander did his main high spots, but tried one too many, as Jericho had it scouted leading to the finish. Post match, Don Callis really pulled at the heartstrings of Jericho, again making his pitch to join his family.)

Komander tried firing out of the gate with strikes, but Jericho quickly regained control only to have Komander do the corner headstand into a dropkick. A multi springboard hurricanrana sent Jericho to the floor, as Komander followed it up with a Tornillo. The crowd chanted for Y2J, as a running knee off the apron connected for Komander, but back inside, Jericho caught him with a forearm shiver in mid air. Hard chops led to a brainbuster, but Komander fought back with a combo of kicks before being hip tossed to the floor by Jericho.

A suplex from the apron back inside got Jericho two as he blew kisses to the crowd, flipping them off in the process. Komander hit a springboard head scissors, but Jericho quickly answered with two powerbombs. A missed Lionsault allowed Komander to get two count off a La Magistral attempt. Jericho caught a charging Komander with a major lariat and went to the corner, as Komander fought off a superplex attempt and hit the rope walk Shooting Star. Jericho missed his springboard attack and went to the floor, as Komander wowed the crowd with his rope walk dive and Phoenix Splash back inside for close two. Komander went for a rope walk leap, but turned right into a Code Breaker in mid air. Komander dodged a Judas Effect, tried a springboard Dragon Rana, but Jericho countered into the Lion Tamer for the submission.

Don Callis’ ominous music hit and he was immediately booed by the Saskatoon crowd. Callis said the wrestling world is buzzing about Jericho joining the Don Callis Family. Callis mentioned being in a faction with Jericho 34 years ago along with their mentor Bad News Allen and showed footage of them together in 1995 as Callis called themselves a couple of Gods. Jericho remembers Allen said they should always stick together, while Callis said Allen is up in heaven smiling at the possibility of them joining forces as he made his way to the back, leaving Jericho again with much to consider.

-Alex Marvez is in the parking lot beside a car saying he’s been waiting for Jack Perry, so he’s just going to knock on the window. Perry said it’s an unsafe working environment before HOOK opened the door, as Perry scrambled to get away, with the child locks being his downfall. Perry escaped, popped HOOK with a forearm and ran again, as HOOK looked into the camera and said to keep running.

**********

-Renee Paquette stopped Don Callis, who said later tonight, he’s going to go out and make the big announcement for who the 5th man will be for the Blackpool Combat Club at Blood & Guts. Paquette said it’s surprising to go out alone with Kenny Omega in the building, but Callis said Omega is someone he’s not afraid of. Back to the commentary table, Tony Schiavone called Callis an idiot, which was the perfect segue for Excalibur to call MJF an idiot and throw it to the next bonding session between the AEW World Champion and Adam Cole.

-MJF & Cole are at a bar having drinks when four ladies walk by and say hello, as MJF said two for Cole & two for him, but Cole said he can’t, as he loves Britt Baker. MJF said more for daddy, as he went off with the four ladies. MJF walked back a bit later saying the Maximum Ride is spent as Cole said he’d put on the shirt MJF got for him if they do what he wanted next, which was playing the Fight Forever video game. MJF was appalled until finding out his stats and we learn he’s never had a friend to play multi-player with. Cole & MJF both admit they were both going to attack each other when their guard was down and both agree to win the Blind Eliminator Tournament and win the AEW Tag Team Titles. We get a slow motion high five to end this insane segment. Tony Schiavone said that’s four minutes of his life he’ll never get back.

Daniel Garcia & Sammy Guevara defeated AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin in a Blind Eliminator Semi Final

(This was a fun tag match, one I wish we would’ve seen more of because of the commercial, but the story told was a good one. Guevara didn’t know of the interference and you can play into that, all while building a potential Strickland & Allin match.)

A fast opening sequence with Cassidy & Guevara, as multiple arm drags led to both men posing. Allin jumped in and took out Garcia on the floor with a low tope and got a few roll ups on Guevara before Garcia tripped Allin up and smacked Cassidy into the barricade. Garcia hit a spinning front chancery on Allin and kept him isolated throughout the break.

Guevara whipped Allin right into Garcia on the apron, as Allin hit a Code Red, but didn’t realize Garcia made the legal tag. The tables turned, as Garcia missed a corner charge and ran into Guevara as Cassidy made the hot tag and ran wild. Garcia blocked the DDT, but was dropped with a Michinoku Driver by Cassidy for two. Garcia dodged Orange Punch and got a body scissors into the Dragon Tamer. Cassidy escaped, hit a Stundog Millionaire followed by an up and over Stunner from Allin. Guevara jumped in and almost immediately planted with Beach Break as Garcia & Cassidy traded rolling crucifix pins before both collided with big boots for the double down. Allin & Guevara made the tag and clonked heads with everyone down now.

Guevara hit a pop up knee, but missed the follow up Shooting Star Press. Garcia locked on the Dragon Tamer ringside on Cassidy, as Prince Nana walked to the ring and told Garcia to lay Cassidy out with Allin’s skateboard. As a tug of war started with Allin, the ref & Garcia, Swerve Strickland came in from out of nowhere and hit Allin with a running knee before escaping with Nana through the crowd. Guevara, who was unaware of what happened, hit the GTH on Allin and got the pin.

-A video of Nick Wayne is shown of him training growing up and the story of his mother sitting him down to tell him his father had passed away. Nick said he wondered what was going to happen next as he didn’t have a father figure any longer. Nick said he wants to continue the legacy of the Wayne name as footage of training with Darby Allin is shown. Nick said he’s been ready for this moment his entire life, knowing what professional wrestling has meant to his family. This was a really good video package.

**********

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Adam Cole, who is on the phone, trying to explain to Britt Baker what happened when he went out with MJF at the bars. Roderick Strong walked in and asked if he’s really falling for MJF’s BS, as Cole said he has nothing to worry about, MJF isn’t a half bad guy. Strong & Cole had issues when they first met, but Cole now sees Strong as brother. Cole cut off Strong when he got a text from MJF wanting to hit the double clothesline before rethinking that after seeing Brian Cage in the hall. Cole walked off to call MJF when Strong & Paquette just shook their heads. I’m not sure if this ends with Strong turning on Cole, but this whole thing has kind of made Cole look ridiculous, even if he is playing MJF.

AEW World Champion MJF & Adam Cole defeated Big Bill & Brian Cage (w/Prince Nana) in a Blind Eliminator Semi Final

(The first half of this match was all comedy, but the finish was pretty fun with the crowd into it. I thought Cage & Bill looked really impressive with their first round win and wouldn’t mind them teaming more often, but there was no way they were advancing with the story being told with MJF & Cole. If these two don’t turn on each other at the same exact moment, you’re going to have whoever doesn’t pull the trigger first look like an absolute idiot.)

Cole took his jacket off to reveal the Better than You Bay Bay shirt MJF got him. MJF got the crowd chant for a bodyslam, which in fact didn’t happen when he tried it on Bill. Cole & Cage tagged in and took turns doing pushups, which Cole did more of and angered Cage before MJF & Bill tagged back in. MJF failed another bodyslam attempt, as Bill told MJF not to have Cole show him up and do more pushups. Bill immediately punted MJF in the ribs and kept him isolated with Cage during break.

Bill ripped off MJF’s shirt and that’s what caused MJF to hulk up and hit the big time bodyslam, which the crowd erupted for. MJF floated over a Cage lariat, got an eye poke and hot tag to Cole, who hit a series of pump kicks and eye poke of his own. Cole & MJF both yelled for the double clothesline, but Cage put on the brakes and it was Bill who connected with the clothesline of his own. Cole & MJF escaped a double chokeslam with superkicks, as Cage hit a Samoan Drop and Fall Away Slam combo. Cage ate a superkick on the apron, as MJF hit a Heat Seeker, while Cole lowered The Boom for the win.

Post match, much like last week, MJF got the crowd to chant for Cole to do the thing, which was the Adam Cole Bay Bay chant. MJF put over their new tag team shirts as Cole said it was Story Time with Adam Cole. Never in Cole’s dreams did he expect a tag team with MJF to work, but he has high expectations on winning this tournament and Tag Team Titles. If they stay on the same page, Cole promises they’re looking at new champions. Cole & MJF hit the go home line together saying We’re Better Than You, Bay Bay as we see Roderick Strong backstage watching, annoyed at this new friendship.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Jake Hager outside Chris Jericho’s locker room. Hager said Jericho knows we’re coming in and asked if Jericho is considering joining Callis’ family. Jericho said Callis is making some good points, mentioning the history with Bad News Allin and said he needs some time to think. Hager took off his purple bucket hat and said years ago he saved Jericho in Abu Dhabi, while Jericho brought Hager into AEW. Until Jericho can give Hager a straight answer, he can’t stand by his side and handed Jericho the purple hat before walking off.

Ruby Soho (w/Saraya & Toni Storm) defeated Skye Blue in an Owen Hart Tournament Semi Final

(Blue thankfully didn’t have to deal with the numbers game very long, but Soho was still too much to handle despite a good fight. Soho moves to the finals of the Owen Tournament for the second year in a row and hopes to change the finish from what happened last time.)

Blue avoided a ripcord early and slapped Soho in the face before finding herself on the apron. Storm ran distraction, but failed, as Blue was superkick happy and took out everyone before dropping Soho face first on the edge of the apron. Storm tossed Blue into the ring steps and the referee saw it, but instead of disqualifying Soho, he sent Saraya & Storm to the back. Soho repeatedly drove the knee of Blue into the steps and yelled the Owen Hart trophy would be hers.

Back from break, Blue managed a thrust kick with the good leg and hit a nice neckbreaker for two. Soho avoided the step up knee, kicked out the bad wheel, but Blue wanted Code Blue, only to have Soho counter into a single leg crab. Blue got the ropes and dropped Soho with a spinning Full Nelson slam for two, as Blue went to the top rope, but was crotched by Soho. A No Future off the ropes led to Soho getting the win.

Swerve Strickland (w/Prince Nana) defeated Nick Wayne

(Wayne put up one hell of an effort and the crowd was loudly behind him, but Strickland was too much and ruined his AEW debut. I really enjoyed this match and the future looks very bright for Nick Wayne in AEW.)

Darby Allin walked out with Wayne, before letting him head to the ring alone as we see Wayne’s mother sitting ringside. Commentary talk about the history between Strickland & Wayne on the independent scene, as a fast opening sequence led to a lightning quick series of counters into a stalemate. Wayne hit a snap hurricanrana and leaping uppercut, but soaked in the moment too long, which allowed Strickland to attack. Strickland was sent to the apron, as he nearly got a DVD, but Wayne countered into a hurricanrana that sent Strickland flying to the floor into commercial. Back inside, Wayne had his legs kicked out and hung up on the bottom rope, as Strickland hit a running low neckbreaker to the floor.

Strickland lit up Wayne with strikes until Wayne hit a superman forearm shot and shotgun dropkick. Strickland blocked a springboard stunner, but Wayne countered into a standing Sliced Bread for two. Wayne went for his Wayne’s World springboard cutter, but Strickland caught him in mid air with two Torture Rack backbreakers. The crowd is loudly behind Wayne, as Darby Allin is shown on the ramp cheering Wayne on as well. Wayne fought out of the corner with a massive avalanche Poison Rana, followed by Wayne’s World, but Strickland’s foot made the rope. Both men go up the ropes again, but this time Strickland countered a super hurricanrana into a super powerbomb and The Last Call kick for a close two. Strickland smirks at Allin and snapped the left arm back before hitting the JML Driver for the victory. Allin came to the ring post match, as Strickland stared down Wayne’s mother.

The Fifth Men for Blood & Guts Revealed

Don Callis walks to the ring alone and said Omega & The Elite deserve what is coming to them at Blood & Guts, as Omega is a coward and a punk. Kenny Omega walked to the ring, but was attacked by Jon Moxley & Konosuke Takeshita until being blindsided by the returning PAC with a steel chair. Omega was rolled in the ring and had the boots put to him by Moxley, Takeshtia & PAC as they held Omega for Callis to put the boots to him with his bedazzled loafers. PAC took the microphone and said Omega had no idea how long he’s waited for this, as Omega shattered his nose and took his Trios Title from him, so Omega pays the price. They were about to Pillmanize Omega’s neck and Moxley asked if Omega had last words, as Omega started laughing saying to watch the screen.

We see a video package of KOTA IBUSHI, who is the fifth man for The Elite, as the lights come back on and The Young Bucks & Hangman Page are in the ring to send Moxley, Takeshita, PAC & Callis packing. Page said next week they end this once and for all. Omega said Blood & Guts will prove that people like the BCC will never prosper as once everyone is down and out, Omega is coming for Callis. Omega says Goodbye & Goodnight.

WWE NXT live results: The Judgment Day appear

After a successful night on Raw, The Judgment Day will look to build on their momentum as they appear on NXT tonight.

All four members of Judgment Day — Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Dominik Mysterio & Rhea Ripley — will be on tonight’s episode of NXT. They were challenged to appear by NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams.

Judgment Day overcame their recent dissension to defeat Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn on Raw last night. Priest holds the Money in the Bank briefcase and could potentially cash it in for a shot at Hayes’ title.

Hayes’ Great American Bash challenger will be determined by a number one contender’s match between Bron Breakker and Ilja Dragunov on tonight’s show. The special is set for Sunday, July 30.

NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton is set for non-title action against Ivy Nile tonight. Stacks faces off with Joe Coffey in an attempt to free Tony D’Angelo. Andre Chase & Duke Hudson take on Drew Gulak & Charlie Dempsey. And Bronco Nima & Lucien Price will debut.

Our live coverage starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

NXT opens with the entrance of Judgment Day — Finn Balor, Money In the Bank holder Damian Priest, Dominik Mysterio and WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley. They enter the soundstage at the Performance Center in Orlando, and they collectively make their way to the ring.

The live studio audience chants “mami” for Ripley, as Finn Balor grabs a microphone. The crowd is chanting “welcome home” just before Balor says, “Daddy’s home.” Balor adds this is the house he built, and Balor is here to “lay down some house rules with The Judgment Day.”

Balor has an introduction for the members of Judgment Day. Priest and Ripley gets pops from the live audience, but Dominik gets heavily booed by the crowd. Priest instructs them to all rise for Judgment Day. Priest then addresses NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams.

Priest says Hayes and Williams called thought they were getting a divided Judgment Day. Instead, Priest says they getting The Judgment Day that is running WWE and NXT.

Dominik goes to talk, but he is drowned out by booing and an interruption. Hayes and Williams enter, and Ripley objects to them interrupting “Dirty Dom” as Dom is trying to speak.

Hayes and Williams gets into the ring to confront Judgment Day. Hayes sarcastically thanks them for coming tonight. Hayes addresses Balor, and Hayes at first says he is on the Mount Rushmore of NXT. But now it was Hayes and Williams influence all over NXT.

Hayes goes on to acknowledge Balor beating him in a match on Raw a few weeks ago, but Hayes tells Balor he is now in his arena. Ripley laughs out loud and tells Hayes this was never about Hayes and Williams. There is more banter as Priest begins to speak again to boast about Judgment Day.

Williams tells Priest he is “writing a check his ass can’t cash.” Priest took great exception to this, leading to some posturing between them. This all leads to Hayes challenging Judgment Day to a tag team match tonight.

Balor responds by cautioning Hayes, “If you come at The Prince,’ you best not mess.” Hayes says let’s do it, setting up the main event for later on.

McKenzie Mitchell interviews Tony D’Angelo on Skype about the stipulation match tonight. Not much of note except Tony D pondering whether he knows Stacks anymore.

Gigi Dolan in a pre-tape promo has words for Kiana James. Dolan basically says Dolan is authentic, and James is living a lie. Old photos show James at a younger age. Dolan tries to paint James as a hypocrite, after James previously dumped paint on Dolan. Cut to the locker room, and James is quickly seen trying to delete the photos of her younger self.

Chase U (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson with Thea Hail) defeated Drew Gulak & Charlie Dempsey

Hudson pinned Dempsey to win the match. Hail gets involved during the finish, as she traps Gulak in an armbar.

Chase & Hudson jump Dempsey & Gulak in the aisle before the bell. Chase runs wild at the start of the match, and Hudson tags in. Hudson is cut off after a double tea,, but he comes back with a hurricanrana. That popped everyone, including the announce team om commentary.

Hudson bodyslams Gulak from the middle rope. Moments later, the live studio audience does the wave while Chase U is in control. Double flip-flop-fly by Chase and Hudson just before the show cuts to a commercial break.

When the show returns from commercials, Hudson is being worked over by Dempsey. Hudson is having his arm worked over after selling his wrist earlier in the match. Hudson creates separation and he makes a hot tag.

Chase is a house of fire. He gets into a slugfest with Dempsey. Chase with a leg sweep to set up a Garvin Stomp. High cross off the top by Chase for a two count, when the pin is broken up. The trade near falls as Chase is double-teamed with suplexes.

Hail fires up the crowd from ringside. Gulak yells at her, and Hail springs off the ring steps to bounce on Gulak. In a bit of poetic justice, Hail locks Gulak in a kimura. The irony is Gulak taught Hail the submission hold. Meanwhile in the ring, Hudson & Chase execute The Fratliner on Dempsey. Hudson then covers Dempsey for a three count, and Chase U celebrates.

Bron Breakker is sitting in the locker room, where he cuts a promo on Ilja Dragunov ahead of their match later on tonight.

Mr. Stone and Von Wagner in a vignette have a heart-to-heart talk.

Cora Jade defeated Kelani Jordan (with Dana Brooke)

Jade pinned Jordan after delivering a Cactus Jack DDT. As they went home, Jordan goes for a springboard, and Jade trips her up. Jordan takes an ugly bump onto the mat. Jade then delivers the DDT, and she covers Jordan for a pinfall.

Jade retrieves her kendo stick after the match and attacks Jordan. Brooke jumps in to make a save, and Brooke dropkicks Jade. The heel flees, and the babyface mentor checks on Jordan.

Dragunov cuts a promo on Breakker ahead of their match, which is up next after a commercial break.

A video package highlights the Underground match from last week, where Eddy Thorpe defeated Damon Kemp. Footage from after the match, Thorpe and Gable Steveson are interviewed exiting the building. Steveson talks about having to make a decision between national, the Olympics, and WWE.

Ilja Dragunov defeated Bron Breakker in a number one contender’s match

Dragunov pinned Breakker in a helluva hard-hitting match. Dragunov in winning becomes the number one contender, getting a title shot against the NXT Champion at The Great American Bash.

An intense Breakker pummels like he is The Terminator. Dragunov attempts to chop him down, but Breakker rises again. Breakker is cut off. They look to be throwing some stiff shots at each other.

Just before a commercial break, Breakker lifts Dragunov for a suplex. They both go over the top rope and land on the floor in a heap. They did some high spots during picture-in-picture, including Breakker leaping off the top rope only to be cut off by Dragunov. They are slugging it out when the show returns from the break.

They trade German suplexes. Dragunov signals for his finisher. Instead, he is hit with a boot from Breakker. After climbing the turnbuckles, Breakker goes for what seems like a flying bulldog off the top rope. Dragunov sells it like he was clubbed in the back of the head.

Dragunov fights back, and he gives Breakker an exploder in a corner. Dragunov goes coast-to-coast with a RVD springbaord across the ring. Dragunov delivers a Torpedo Moscow, but Breakker kicks out for a near fall. Dragunov climbs the turnbuckles and leaps off into a spear out of nowhere by Breakker. Dragunov kicks out for a great near fall.

Breakker pummels Dragunov, and Breakker goes for a finisher. Breakker lifts Dragunov into a military press, but Drahunov counters into a tornado DDT. Dragunov with a powerbomb for a two count. A flying forearm by Dragunov, and another two. Breakker attempts a spear, and Dragunov counters with flying knee strike. Dragunov runs the ropes and delivers Torpedo Moscow. Dragunov then covers Breakker for a three count.

NXT North American Champion Wes Lee is being interviewed by McKenzie Mitchell when they are interrupted by Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley. Dominik tells Lee is accepts Lee’s open challenge. Lee responds by saying he stopped doing that, but Lee remarks he can the match booked. Lee goes to leave to do just that, but Dom stops him to say that maybe he can face Lee next week instead of this week. Looks like a title match is set up for next Tuesday.

Baron Corbin is the focus of another vignette where he has dropped all of his old gimmicks. He is searching for who he is. Good luck with that.

NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton defeated Ivy Nile in a non-title match

Stratton pinned Nile after the Prettiest Moonsault Ever. Nile got to look strong as he catches Stratton in a Dragon sleeper just before the finish. Stratton escapes, levels Nile, and Stratton executes her moonsault finisher.

Nile wore a Creed Brother shirt during the match, and she did some spots paying homage to the Creeds.

Stratton cuts a promo after the match, while the studio audience chants “you tapped out” at her. That upsets her.

Meanwhile, Thea Hail is in the locker room demonstrating to Andre Chase how she tapped out Stratton. In walks Duke Hudson, and he remarks about Stratton getting booed out of the building. Chase hypes up Hail for a rematch with Stratton.

Blair Davenport cuts a promo on Roxanne Perez, threatening to leave Perez “on the shelf for good.”

Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo defeated Joe Coffey (with NXT Tag Team Champions Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) to free Tony D’Angelo from custody

Stacks pinned Joe Coffey to win the freedom of Tony D. Stacks proves his loyalty to The Family, as he secures Tony D’s release from jail.

The story leading into the match was Stacks supposedly made a deal with Gallus to betray D’Angelo. Stacks was supposed to throw the match, but Stacks swerves them. Stacks takes a finisher from Coffey, but Stacks kicks out at two.

Coffey yells at Stacks, hollering about them having a deal. Stacks responds by saying he “ain’t no snitch.” The show cuts to commercial break, and Stacks is getting worked over when the show return from commercials. Tony D phones into the show with a collect call from jail to boast about how they swerved Gallus.

Mark Coffey distracts Stacks, allowing Joe Coffey to level Stacks. Bronco Nima and Lucien Price come down during the match to confront the tag champs at ringside.

Stacks with a comeback, and he runs wild. Stacks slides out of the ring to hit Wolfgang. Mark Coffey jumps on the apron again, but Stacks is prepared for him this time. Stacks flips Mark into the ring. The referee is trying to get Mark out of the ring while Stacks retrieves a crowbar he hid.

Wolfgang jumps in, and Stacks does an Eddie Guerrero trick. Stacks tosses the crowbar to Wolfgang, and Stacks takes a phantom bump. Stacks sells like he was hit with the crowbar as the ref turns around to see Wolfgang holding the weapon. The ref ejects Wolfgang and Mark Coffey from ringside. Stacks hits Joe Coffey with a big boot and a stomp. Stacks then covers Coffey for a three count. Tony D is a free man.

The Schism courts Ivy Nile in a backstage skit.

Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz are interviewed by McKenzie Mitchell. They are asked about Noam Dar being unable to do his talk show gimmick.

Leon & Feroz were speaking when they are interrupted by Los Lotharios — Angel Garza & Humberto. They hit on Feroz & Leon, but Feroz & Leon are not impressed. In comes Dragon Lee & Nathan Frazier to stand up for the women. This would seem to set up a tag bout.

Announced for next Tuesday on NXT:

  • Homecoming celebration for Tony D’Angelo
  • Dominik Mysterio challenging Wes Lee for the NXT North American Championship
  • Dragon Lee & Nathan Frazier against Los Lotharios in a tag match
  • Gigi Dolan vs. Kiana James

Finn Balor & Damien Priest (with Dominik Mysterio & Rhea Ripley) defeated NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams

Balor pinned Hayes to win the match, as Judgment Day get the win. The champion of the NXT brand is beaten again by Balor.

Judgment Day cut the ring in half as they worked over Williams during the match. Hot tag to Hayes, and he is a house of fire. Judgment Day powders as the show cuts to its final commercial break. Balor is working over Hayes as the show returns from the break.

Hot tag to Williams, and Priest bumps and feeds for him. Near fall, but Priest kicks out. Priest and Williams clothesline each other for a double down. Balor and Hayes tag in, and they run through some spots. Good stuff with these two.

Priest gets a near fall on Hayes, but Williams breaks up the count. At ringside, Priest gives Williams a Razor’s Edge on the announce desk. Hayes cuts off Willaims when Williams jumps back into the ring. Dominik distracts Hayes, and Priest tries to capitalize. Hayes counters Priest with La Mistica.

Ripley instructs Dom to get a metal folding chair. Dom tries to get into the ring with the chair, which is a red herring. The ref is distracted by having to stop Dom that he does not see Ripley pass the MITB briefcase to Priest. Dragunov suddenly runs down looking to make a save.

Dragunov takes the briefcase from Priest. Hayes charges in and collides with Dragunov and the case. Priest then chokeslams Hayes with South of Heaven. Balor tags in and climbs the turnbuckles. Coup de Grace by Balor, and he covers Hayes for a pinfall.

Balor has now twice pinned Hayes. Once in a singles bout a few weeks ago, and now tonight in a tag match. Judgment Day stands over a fallen Hayes, and they pose.

As Judgment leave, Hayes glares at Dragunov. Hayes’ next challenger as inadvertently cost Hayes a match, and Hayes is visibly upset.

WWE Raw live results: Logan Paul and Ricochet face-to-face

Date: July 10, 2023
Location: KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY

**********

Show Recap —

Finn Bálor kicked off Raw. He was pissed about what happened at Money in the Bank and said his issues with Seth Rollins weren’t finished because of Damian Priest.

Judgment Day’s music hit but it was Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio who entered. Ripley knew they had issues to discuss but wanted to do it in the back. Bálor said he had no issue with them, it was Priest who cost him and tried to hijack his moment.

Ripley pushed Bálor’s mic down so the crowd couldn’t hear her tell him to calm down. They had a disagreement and Bálor left.

Ripley took the mic and said Judgment Day still ran Raw and challenged anyone to prove her wrong. Ripley also said that Dom would put down Rollins tonight. Dom grabbed the mic and the crowd loudly booed. (Ripley was getting booed too but it got extra loud for Dom.)

Rollins entered and Dom screamed at them to cut his music. Dom said he didn’t want to be disrespected — all while Rollins was actively eating a plate of chicken wings. Rollins told Dom to shut up because we were here (in Buffalo) to eat buffalo wings and watch Judgment Day implode.

Dom said he would beat Rollins so Rollins laughed. Rollins informed Ripley that he was the only one who would be whipping Dom-Dom’s ass tonight. Rollins’ music played and he danced in place while eating wings.

********

Ripley and Dom approached Priest in the back. Priest said he knew things would go that way (in the ring). Ripley told him to grow up, be a man and squash things. Priest said this man already tried but Bálor chose not to listen. For her, Priest would try again. Ripley said, “Good.”

Drew McIntyre & Matt Riddle defeated Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci (w/Intercontinental Champion Gunther) (10:46)

McIntyre got in the ring (for the first time since WrestleMania) and Kaiser quickly bailed. Imperium got the advantage over Riddle moments later ahead of a break and they maintained control for a while until Riddle countered out of an Imperial Bomb.

McIntyre made the hot tag and handed out overhead suplexes and neckbreakers to both opponents. McIntyre looked Gunther in the eye before powerbombing Vinci. He set up for Claymore Kick but Kaiser got in his way. The referee was distracted so Gunther tried to attack but Riddle nailed him with a flying knee.

McIntyre gave Vinci a Claymore while Riddle held Kaiser back with an ankle lock and McIntyre got the pinfall win.

— Gunther issued Vinci a warning after the match and stormed off. Kaiser looked concerned.

********

In the back, Bálor again complained to Priest until Ripley cut him off. Priest said he didn’t intend on costing Bálor his match at MITB. In fact, he wanted Bálor to win. Priest said they could “go back to running this place, or…”

Bálor was good with getting off to a fresh start but he wanted Rollins first. Priest was fine with that and asked Bálor if they were cool. Bálor said yes. Priest knew that Bálor could beat Rollins and that he would be champion. Priest raised his MITB briefcase and stated, “Either way, it’s covered.” Bálor looked confused as his mates walked off.

********

There was a 4-minute long recap video of the Bloodline segments from Smackdown.

Jackie Redmond interviewed Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. She asked them what’s next. Zayn said they would keep taking on whoever stepped their way. They mentioned Street Profits, Alpha Academy, LWO, and Viking Raiders as potential opponents.

Ripley and Dom approached. Ripley didn’t appreciate that they left out Judgment Day. Owens was pissed at them for disobeying the unwritten interrupting rule.

Ripley said any combination of Judgment Day could take their titles and they planned on taking all the titles. Ripley also warned them that Dom couldn’t be stopped because he worked on his cardio in prison.

After Ripley and Dom left, Zay and Owens debated what she might’ve meant by that.

(It seemed like there was a “We can’t hear you” chant from the live crowd during this segment.)

********

There was a video package for Indus Sher and Jinder Mahal.

Non-title match: World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins vs. Dominik Mysterio (w/Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley)

The match didn’t happen. Dom attacked Rollins from behind during his entrance as Rollins was watching Ripley. Rollins fought back and chased Dom around but he was attacked from behind by Bálor and Priest.

Owens and Zayn ran out to make the save and they cleared the ring after Rollins hit Dom with a chair. The crowd sang Rollins’ song as the two sides stared each other down.

********

Logan Paul walked through the back. His face-off with Ricochet is next. (Gunther appeared to be lecturing Vinci in the background.)

********

(The first hour of Raw included six segments with Judgment Day. Only the McIntyre/Riddle tag match didn’t include the group — but they were in the segment right before that. And If you haven’t had enough Judgment Day, there was a commercial moments after their segment advertising them for tomorrow’s NXT.)

********

[SECOND HOUR]

Tonight’s main event will be Rollins, Zayn and Owens against Priest, Bálor and Dominik in a six-man tag.

Logan Paul and Ricochet face-to-face

Ricochet entered and wanted to tell the fans something from the heart: Every time he stepped in the ring, every risk he took was for the fans so they could go home and say Ricochet was the highlight of their night. But tonight was about Logan Paul. The crowd booed Paul.

Ricochet didn’t appreciate Paul going on his podcast to call him unprofessional when Paul himself admitted he didn’t know what he was doing. Ricochet said he didn’t do things on social media and invited Paul to the ring to do things face to face.

Paul entered. Paul was amused by Ricochet acting tough because looked like a little boy. Paul wanted to make this quick because he didn’t want to be in this crap town much longer. Paul said Ricochet was spectacular and every time they were in the ring together, it was fireworks.

But Paul stood by what he said on his podcast because everyone in the MITB ladder match cared more about him losing than themselves winning — and Ricochet cost them both the match.

Ricochet said none of the fans wanted him near the MITB briefcase. Ricochet spoke about being in the business for 20 years and the crowd chanted, “Logan sucks.” Paul laughed because Ricochet was mid-promo but they were still chanting about him (Paul). Ricochet warned Paul to never run his mouth about him again.

Paul wasn’t intimidated by a guy wearing a shirt that was too small and was 90% forehead. Paul knew Ricochet wanted to fight him so he could go viral but Paul didn’t care about going viral because he was a WWE superstar. Paul said he knocked people out while Ricochet was all about video clips. Paul basically declined.

Ricochet flipped over the top to the outside (like he did in that segment with Velveteen Dream in NXT years ago). Paul was impressed but still declined.

Paul tried a sucker punch but Ricochet countered into a sliced bread off the apron. The crowd chanted for Ricochet.

********

Zoey Stark (w/Trish Stratus) defeated Becky Lynch (10:34)

Stark took control thanks to Stratus tripping Lynch with the ref’s back turned but Lynch made a comeback after a break and hit an exploder for two. Stark responded with a clothesline, sliding knee and twisting senton for two. Lynch countered Stark’s finisher and hit a reverse DDT for two. Stark countered a Disarmer a couple of times and hit a spinning kick for a nearfall.

Stark tried a cradle while holding the ropes but the ref caught her. Lynch tried to return the favour by doing the same thing but Stratus informed the ref. Lynch argued with Stratus as her back was turned on Stark so Stark tried her finisher but Lynch countered it again. Lynch dropkicked Stratus off the apron but with her back turned again, Stark rolled her up for the pinfall win.

(The finish was convoluted and this helped no one.)

********

Rollins, Zayn and Owens met in the back. Owens wanted them to smash heads and break noses. They were all on the same page.

Maxxine Dupri Alpha Academy Graduation Ceremony

Chad Gable and Otis did some comedy before introducing the first ever female graduate of Alpha Academy — Maxxine Dupri.

Dupri said she used to think Gable was just a hideous, disgusting, little troll but there was so much more to him than that. He was a great mentor, teacher and a wonderful friend. The crowd chanted, “You deserve it” for Dupri. Thanks to Gable’s training, Dupri said she was able to beat that witch Valhalla and win her first match on Raw.

Dupri also wanted to credit the beautiful hunk Otis. Dupri called Otis her muse and her rock and if he hadn’t caught her eye, none of this would have happened. She also thanked the fans for accepting her. She yelled, “Thank you!”

Gable told Dupri to remove her cap and gown (which some fans cheered) because he had something for her — the last jacket she would ever wear. Gable gave her an Alpha Academy letterman jacket.

Viking Raiders interrupted. As Erik and Ivar entered to distract them, Valhalla decked Dupri from behind and stole her new jacket.

********

Earlier today, Emma told Shayna Baszler (who was playing with a deck of cards) that she was impressed by what Baszler did to Ronda Rousey and thought they should finish the job together. Baszler said she would show Emma what she planned on doing to Rousey in the ring.

Shayna Baszler defeated Emma (1:29)

Baszler won quickly by submission with the Kirifuda Clutch.

— Rousey marched out post-match and brawled with Baszler. Rousey countered a Kirifuda Clutch and attempted an arm bar but Baszler managed to escape the ring.

********

[THIRD HOUR]

Cody Rhodes promo

Rhodes asked the millions of fans watching at home to indulge him because he wanted to turn his back to the camera and see all the fans in the area. Rhodes looked around as the fans cheered him.

Rhodes said there seemed to be an invisible wall between the fans and the ring but he always felt like the fans were in there with him and he appreciated that. Rhodes said this wasn’t performative because everything he’s been telling the fans has been real. He wasn’t just talking about career goals but about life goals.

He recalled a fan in the UK asking him about his momentum. Rhodes answered honestly but the question and his answer has haunted him since. He told the fan that every city they went to was sold out and every crowd was louder than the next. By every metric, he was doing just fine.

The fan persisted and Rhodes’ answer bothered him because his momentum in the ring was shaky. There was a mountain in his way named Brock Lesnar. He cannot go over or around the mountain, he must go through it. Rhodes informed Buffalo that Lesnar was not here tonight but will be on Raw next week.

Rhodes said everyone had a Brock Lesnar in their life — that thing that was impeding them from the next step they could take — whether it was a fear of heights or their boss.

Rhodes’ wanted a rubber match against Lesnar at SummerSlam. Rhodes wanted Lesnar to appear on Raw next week and shake his hand. If he didn’t, it would be another night of Rhodes popping him in the head and attacking him with a chair to end the chapter that Lesnar started for no reason.

Rhodes said whoever emerged from the dust would be next in line but the prince didn’t want to be prince any longer — he would be next in line.

********

No disqualification match: The Miz defeated Tommaso Ciampa (11:41)

They went to break after Ciampa wrapped Miz’s head in between a steel chair and shoved him into the ring post. Miz came off the top with a trash can lid but Ciampa caught him mid-air with a knee strike. Ciampa used the lid and hit multiple running knee strikes in the corner. Ciampa put Miz through a table with an air raid crash off the middle rope and the crowd went nuts.

Ciampa had it won but Bronson Reed broke up the cover. Reed gave Ciampa a Tsunami. Miz crawled into a cover at least ten seconds later and picked up the pinfall win.

********

Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green confronted Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan because they didn’t want them ringside for their match. Rodriguez told them to relax.

Ripley showed up and warned Rodriguez not to get involved in her business again or else it was strike three. Green tried to take Ripley’s side and said, “Strike three, you’re out! Basketball!” Ripley got in Green’s face so Deville settled things down and they left.

Morgan told Ripley they got involved last week because she was a bully who disrespected Natalya. Rodriguez cut off Morgan and told Ripley that they would stop her.

Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green defeated Katana Chase & Kayden Carter (2:22)

Green won when she covered Katana with her feet on the ropes and Deville assisted by holding her feet down. Crowd was pretty dead for this.

(The women’s tag title match is next week.)

********

Byron Saxton interviewed McIntyre and Riddle. McIntyre has noticed all of the different groups that have popped up trying using numbers to their advantage. McIntyre has dealt with that before and was tired of it, so he and Riddle planned on eradicating them all starting with Imperium.

Riddle looked forward to beating Gunther next week. McIntyre advised him to delay the match a week because he was off on company business. Riddle was one step ahead of him because he got Vinci and Kaiser banned from ringside. McIntyre was happy with that.

McIntyre said their night was done so he and Riddle could go out and see what Buffalo had to offer. Saxton seemed like he wanted to join them but McIntyre stopped him and said, “Not you!”

********

Next week on Raw in Atlanta:

  • Brock Lesnar appears
  • Gable & Otis vs. Erik & Ivar in a Viking Rules match
  • Rodriguez & Morgan vs. Green & Deville – Women’s tag title match
  • Riddle vs. Gunther non-title match

********

Six-man tag team match: Damian Priest, Finn Bálor & Dominik Mysterio (w/Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley) defeated World Champion Seth Rollins & Tag Champions Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens (12:32)

They went to break after Owens wiped out Judgment Day with a dive off the top. Judgment Day worked over Owens after the break and the crowd chanted “Dom you suck.” Owens dropped Bálor with a DDT and Dom tagged in to try to prevent a tag but Owens simply rolled out of the way and tagged in Rollins.

Rollins was all over Dom and hit a superkick for two. Dom raked Rollins’ eyes and tagged in Priest who dropped him with a lariat for two. Rollins flipped out of a Priest chokeslam attempt and superkicked him into Bálor who fell off the apron. Rollins gave Priest a pedigree but Bálor broke up the cover and tagged in.

Dom tagged himself in as Bálor gave Rollins a headlock elbow drop. Dom hit a frog splash but Rollins kicked out. (Zayn was supposed to break up the cover but he was late. In fact, because Rollins already kicked out, Zayn hit Rollins by mistake while trying to break up the cover.)

Rollins dropped Bálor with a superkick and tagged in Zayn who gave Bálor a Blue Thunder Bomb. Dom broke up the cover so Owens gave him a stunner. Priest chucked Owens from the ring. (They didn’t really show it on camera but Rollins took himself out of the equation by clotheslining Dom and himself over the barricade.)

Zayn gave Bálor an exploder into the turnbuckle but Ripley tripped Zayn as he set up for Helluva Kick. Priest gave Zayn a chokeslam as Ripley distracted the referee and Bálor followed with a Coup de Grace for the pinfall win.

(It’s not a big deal but there were more than a couple mistimed spots during the final few minutes. They didn’t have a ton of time so they may have been rushing.)

— Bálor and Priest shook hands after the match. Ripley was very happy.

As the show ended, Corey Graves reminded us that Judgment Day will be on NXT tomorrow.

WWE Main Event results: Apollo Crews vs. Riddick Moss

Last week’s WWE Main Event was taped at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, before Monday’s Raw.

Good performances all around made for a solid show. I thought we would get the Apollo Crews vs. JD McDonagh rubber match, but Crews vs. Riddick Moss was a good placeholder and Madcap Moss seems a distant memory at this point. If they did this all over again next week, that would be fine by me.

JD McDonagh defeated Akira Tozawa (5:07)

This was a fine opener with Tozawa once again delivering a standout performance to put over an up-and-comer.

McDonagh tore the house down in his victory over Crews on the 6/29 episode, but this was more like an extended squash.

The crowd was not as hot here as they were last week and seemed to be sitting on their hands for McDonagh’s offensive onslaught. They really only came alive when Tozawa fired up and started flying all over the place.

McDonagh is excellent in the ring, but his presentation needs some work. His entrance is a bit underwhelming and his music is quite generic. It would be good to see him have a program against a top babyface to give him something to sink his teeth into.

They did lots of mat work here with McDonagh bullying Tozawa and trying quick pin attempts. Tozawa landed a hurricanrana and top rope cannonball before he went for the senton. He flew into McDonagh’s knees who seized the chance to hit him with the Devil Inside for the victory.

Apollo Crews defeated Riddick Moss (7:30)

This was a good match between two strong individuals with Crews back on track after his loss to McDonagh last week.

As soon as the bell rang, Moss flew at Crews and nailed him with a spinebuster. He followed it up with two big spears to the corner. He tried a third but ran into a boot and then caught Crews’ crossbody attempt, throwing him away with a fallaway slam.

The first half of the match, before the commercials, continued in the same vein until Crews used a dropkick and a Stinger splash to get some separation. He then dumped Moss over the top rope and came off the apron with a moonsault leading into a commercial break.

When we came back, they were fighting on the top rope and when Crews got the better of Moss, he hit him with a cross body for a near fall.

It was a bunch of near falls from then on but the crowd were definitely into it. They even got behind Moss with a chant despite him playing the heel.

In the end, Crews hit Moss with two high knees and got the win with a Samoan Drop, but this was a really good fight that never looked clear cut.

AEW Collision live results: CM Punk vs. Samoa Joe

For the first time since March 2005, CM Punk and Samoa Joe will go one-on-one in a singles match on AEW Collision for the right to move onto the men’s finals of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

The Collision cold open featured the Owen Hart Tournament semi-finalists hyping their matches, with CM Punk saying that he’s going to talk about their history right now.

This week’s Collision comes to us from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada inside the Brandt Centre. Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness are on the call.

CM Punk Speaks

As Elton John welcomes us to Collision, CM Punk made his way to ringside. He got a positive reaction this week. Punk says that his history with Joe makes their match feel like the final, but he can’t overlook Hobbs or Starks. Punk says that he’s got scars and chipped teeth because of Samoa Joe, but history would be made tonight in the name of Owen Hart. He says that if it wasn’t for Owen Hart, most of the locker room wouldn’t be here today. He says that even though he’s a hockey guy, he’s not superstitious. He touches the trophy, saying that he will earn it. Punk can’t promise a victory, but he promises to give everything he has for the fans and for Owen.

– Kevin Kelly threw to a video package detailing Samoa Joe and CM Punk’s history, with footage from their trilogy in ROH. Joe says that there’s never been a day in Punk’s life where he was better than Joe. Punk says that he will beat Joe for the first time.

Owen Hart Foundation 2023 Men’s Tournament Semi Final Match: Ricky Starks defeated Powerhouse Hobbs (w/ QT Marshall, Aaron Solo & Harley Cameron)

A solid opener that was more about the finish than the match itself. With Johnny TV coming into the group, Hobbs leaving QTV is a foregone conclusion.

Hobbs overpowered Starks to start, but Starks was able to outmaneuver Hobbs and send him to the floor with a clothesline. Hobbs came back in the ring and laid Starks out with a lariat. Marshall got himself involved, choking Starks while Hobbs had the referee’s attention. Starks fought out of the corner but ran right into a back elbow from Hobbs. Hobbs eventually dropped Starks with a delayed vertical suplex. He sent Starks into the corner with a hard Irish Whip as we went to picture-in-picture break.

Hobbs held Starks in a bearhug as we came back from the commercial. Starks elbowed his way free and fired up, dropping Hobbs with a running clothesline. Hobbs cut off a Rochambeau set-up by driving Starks into the corner and clubbering him with lariats. Hobbs took Starks to his shoulders and went to the top rope, but Starks slid down and took Hobbs down with a powerbomb for a nearfall.

Hobbs ducked a springboard and fought off a tornado DDT, but Starks took him down with the DDT anyway. Starks set up the spear, but Marshall clipped his leg. Hobbs hit the spinebuster, but the referee was dealing with Marshall on the apron. Hobbs told Marshall to get down, but Starks bumped them together before hitting the spear to score the win and punch his ticket to the finals next week in Calgary.

– After the match, Marshall pleaded his case to Hobbs, who shoved him down in response. Aaron Solo got in the ring to try and diffuse the situation, but Hobbs hit him with a spinebuster. Harley Cameron jumped in the way, so Hobbs left the ring and stomped to the back.

Miro said that he was ready to fight anyone. He said that no one would force him off his path. He said that there was a battle coming, one we’d all been waiting for.

– Backstage, Willow Nightingale noted that due to an injury in her matches in Japan, she wasn’t medically cleared. Athena entered the frame, accusing Nightingale of faking her injury to avoid another loss, noting that Nightingale lost her Strong Title in Japan. Nightingale said that she wanted the match on Rampage and said that she wanted an ROH Women’s Title shot once she wins. Athena said that if Nightingale made it to Rampage and beat her, she’ll think about giving her a title match.

– We got a video package hyping the Blood and Guts match on the July 19th Dynamite. This Wednesday, we will take a closer look at Blood and Guts.

Julia Hart (w/ Brody King) defeated Bambi Hall

Hall used her size advantage to take Hart down, but Hart tripped Hall on a dropdown and clubbered on her. It was here where commentary noted that next week’s Collision will be followed by a live Battle of the Belts. Hart hit a chop block before locking in a Rings of Saturn-style submission for the win.

Malachi Black said that Andrade didn’t become who he was until he lost his mask. Black says that Andrade holds onto his mask like a child holding onto a teddy bear. He wants Andrade to show the world how great he truly is.

– Lexy Nair was backstage with Andrade El Idolo, asking him what his mask means to him. Andrade says that he’s not a coward like Black. He says that his mask represents himself, his family, his culture, and his people. When his mask is on, it’s time for business. When he takes it off, it’s time to fight.

AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator Match: Jay White & Juice Robinson defeated FTR

A stellar tag team match here. This was an FTR special, building slowly to a high crescendo and a surprising finish, with the Bullet Club Gold team earning a future title shot. If that match is as great as this one, sign me up.

White started with Harwood, with Harwood forcing White to the ropes. Robinson and Wheeler tagged in, with Wheeler vaulting Robinson to the floor and forcing him to tag out. Wheeler avoided a double-team, with Harwood coming in the ring to drop both White and Robinson with German suplexes as we went to picture-in-picture break.

White sent Harwood into the buckles as we came back from break. Robinson tagged in and sent Harwood into the buckles chest first before hitting a snap suplex for a nearfall. Harwood dropped Robinson with a back elbow before tagging out and assisting Wheeler with a leg drop for a nearfall. A Wheeler dropkick scored a nearfall. Robinson and Wheeler traded chops before Robinson bit Wheeler’s forehead. Robinson went to the top, but Wheeler took him down with a Manhattan Drop. Wheeler hit the ten punches in the corner, but Robinson sent him to the floor with a Stun Gun.

White dropped Wheeler stomach-first on the apron to firmly take control. The Bullet Club team worked over Wheeler’s midsection. White spat at Harwood before locking on a Muta Lock, but Harwood chopped White to break it up. White sent Harwood into the barricades, allowing Wheeler to fight back. Wheeler caught White in a small package, but Robinson had the referee’s attention. White then suplexed Wheeler into the corner to re-take the advantage. Wheeler fought free to make a tag, but Harwood was fighting off Robinson so no tag was made. Harwood got knocked off the apron, forcing Wheeler to fight two-on-one. White low-bridged Wheeler to the floor as we went to another commercial.

Back from the break, Wheeler dodged a corner charge before finally getting the tag out to Harwood, who ran wild on Bullet Club Gold. Harwood caught White in a small package before dropping him with a brainbuster for a nearfall. The crowd chanted This Is Awesome as Harwood brought White to the top rope. Robinson headbutted Harwood down, but Wheeler dropped Robinson with a side suplex in the ring.

Harwood got back to the top rope, hitting a Powerplex alongside Wheeler for a close nearfall. FTR set up the spike piledriver, but White sent Harwood to the floor. Robinson hit Wheeler with the Left Hand of God, setting up the Blade Runner. FTR blocked it, but Robinson broke up the Shatter Machine. FTR hit the Spike Piledriver for a nearfall that Robinson broke up. Robinson tagged in, but White got a blind tag in. Juice Box into the Blade Buster scored another nearfall.

The crowd kindly plugged the video game with Fight Forever chants. A Pier Four brawl broke out, ending with Harwood hitting a rebound powerbomb on White for a nearfall. Harwood hit a sliding uppercut for another nearfall. Wheeler took out Robinson, but White dropped Wheeler with a Blade Runner. Harwood and White exchanged chops and forearms before Robinson tagged in blind. Harwood rolled up White, not realizing Robinson tagged in. That allowed Robinson to hit his facebuster for the win and the future title match.

– We got a Shawn Spears video package, highlighting his time as the Chairman. Christian noted that Spears would get his title match at Battle of the Belts next Saturday following Collision.

– After a commercial break, Tony Schiovane was in the back with FTR, although they were quickly interrupted by Bullet Club Gold. Jay White noted that they had beaten FTR twice in two weeks, and that they wanted to beat them twice in one night. They challenged FTR to a Two Out of Three Falls match next week, which FTR accepted.

Scorpio Sky defeated Action Andretti

It’s odd that this was supposed to be a Scorpio Sky showcase, but Andretti looked far better than him.

Fun fact, both of these men have pinned Chris Jericho. Although with Jericho’s recent output, that list is growing monthly. Andretti kept up with Sky on the mat until he ducked down for a back body drop when Sky jumped up and hit a double stomp on Andretti’s back.

We came back from commercial with Andretti fighting out of a chin lock and firing up on Sky. Andretti hit a dive to the floor. Back in the ring, Sky avoided a springboard 450 but ran into a Spanish Fly for a nearfall for Andretti. Andretti hit a shotgun dropkick but hit Sky’s knees on a split-legged moonsault. Andretti caught Sky with a rollup out of the TKO, but Sky kicked out and hit the TKO for the win. After the match, Sky shook Andretti’s hand.

– We got a rundown of next week’s Dynamite, featuring the semi-finals of the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament – Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin vs. Daniel Garcia & Sammy Guevara, MJF & Adam Cole vs. Big Bill & Brian Cage – Komander vs. Chris Jericho, Ruby Soho vs. Skye Blue in the Women’s Hart Memorial Tournament, and Nick Wayne debuting against Swerve Strickland.

– Next week’s Collision will feature both the Women’s and Men’s Hart Memorial Tournament Finals, as well as the FTR vs. Bullet Club Gold Best of Three Falls match for the AEW Tag Team Titles.

Owen Hart Foundation 2023 Men’s Tournament Semi Final Match: CM Punk defeated Samoa Joe

A surprising finish, as I thought they would go further with the story of Punk never beating Joe. I do like the idea of Joe not being able to accept that things have changed after so long. This was a good main event, although I think these guys have better in them. I’m very interested in Punk vs. Starks next week, both from a quality perspective and in terms of who wins the tournament.

Joe and Punk started slow, with Punk avoiding chops and landing a few of his own. Joe locked on a knuckle lock, winning it before Punk kicked free and chopped him again. Punk locked on a headlock, calling back to their ROH trilogy as I’ve been told. Punk kept avoiding chops, but Joe walked out of the way of a crossbody before finally landing a chop to Punk’s back and his chest. Joe hit another chop and kicked Punk down before dropping Punk with punches in the corner. Joe dropped Punk with a back elbow. Joe went for the face wash in the corner, but Punk avoided it. Punk went to the second rope, but Joe chopped him over the top to the floor as we went to a picture-in-picture commercial break.

Joe knocked Punk down as we came back from break. Joe locked Punk in a chin lock but missed a knee drop as Punk tried to fire up. Punk hit a leg lariat and a rising knee, and when Joe caught him in the Coquina Clutch, Punk dropped him with a back suplex. Punk hit another trio of rising knees. Punk went to the top for the elbow drop and hit it for a nearfall. Punk called for the Go To Sleep, but Joe took him down into a crossface. Punk got to the ropes to break it, but Joe caught him with a snap powerslam for a nearfall.

The crowd chanted for Owen Hart as Punk caught Joe with a high kick for a nearfall. Punk went to the top again, but Joe cut him off and went for the Muscle Buster. Punk fought out and dropped Joe with a neckbreaker. Go To Sleep attempt got avoided again, but Punk slipped out of the Coquina Clutch and rolled Joe up for the win and the berth in the tournament finals. It’s official for next week’s Collision: CM Punk vs. Ricky Starks in the Owen Hart Tournament Finals.

After the match, Joe and Punk stared each other down. The crowd chanted for Owen Hart as Joe offered a handshake. Punk looked wary but accepted it. He shouldn’t have done that, as Joe snatched Punk into the Coquina Clutch while shouting that Punk was never better than him. Joe grabbed a chair, but FTR jogged down to stop Joe. Ricky Starks looked on from the stage as Punk recovered in the ring.

AEW Rampage 100 live results: Young Bucks & Hangman Page vs. Dark Order

In a rematch from nearly two weeks ago, the Young Bucks & Hangman Page will take on Dark Order on tonight’s 100th episode of AEW Rampage.

Page, Matt & Nick Jackson defeated John Silver, Alex Reynolds & Evil Uno on last week’s Dynamite but the Dark Order declined to help Page and the Bucks in a post-match attack from the Blackpool Combat Club.

The show will feature two matches in the eight-team Blind Eliminator tournament with the two winning teams moving onto next Wednesday’s semifinals on Dynamite.

In one, Jeff Jarrett & Matt Hardy will team for the first time since 2011 in Impact Wrestling as they face Jericho Appreciation Society’s Daniel Garcia & Sammy Guevara. In the other, Brian Cage & Big Bill will team for the first time ever against Matt Sydal & Trent Beretta.

Former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida will face Marina Shafir for the second time ever.

**********

Taped in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, it’s Rampage 100!

Tony Schiavone, Excalibur, and Chris Jericho were on commentary.

The Dark Order (John Silver, Alex Reynolds & Evil Uno) defeated The Young Bucks & Adam Page (12:54).

There was no follow-up from the end of Dynamite Wednesday and how it led to this match.

Matt and Page hit a pair of dives early on the floor. In the ring, Matt Jackson gave Reynolds the locomotion Northern Lights suplex. Page followed that up with the powerbomb into the Bucks corner, who added a pair of enziguris to the back of Reynolds’s head. Ricky Business from the Bucks got two. Uno pulled the ropes open on Matt Jackson, and he fell to the floor and took a beating from Uno and Silver on the outside.

Silver caught Matt Jackson with a brainbuster for a near fall during the split-screen break. After the split-screen break, Jackson fought out of a back superplex attempt and dove onto Uno and Silver on the floor. He got the hot tag to Page. Page slipped on a springboard lariat attempt, but managed to still hit Uno with a lariat. Page gave Silvera fallaway slam and hit a plancha on Reynolds on the floor.

Page hit a top rope lariat on Reynolds for a near fall. Uno hit Page with a boot on the apron, and Sliver and Reynolds caught Page to set the move up again. But, the Young Bucks took them out with superkicks. Page gave Uno a boot to the floor, and then two followed that up with a shooting star press to the floor while the Bucks held Uno. Back in the ring, Page hit Reynolds with a lariat and Matt Jackson came off the top with an elbow for two.

The Bucks went for the Meltzer Driver, but Reynolds escaped. Silver and Reynolds tried to set up Matt for their rapid-fire finish, but Nick broke that up. The Bucks hit the Meltzer Diver on Reynolds for two. Tags were made on both sides to Page and Uno. Uno hit a boot, but Page came back with a lariat. Silver caught Page with a german suplex, but the Bucks ran in with superkicks for everybody.

The Bucks held Uno open for the Buckshot Lariat, but Silver and Reynolds kept Page from hitting the move. The Bucks took them out with dives to the floor. Page went for the Buckshot, but Uno pulled the ref in the way. Then, Konosuke Takeshita came out of the crowd to distract the referee. Uno hit Page with a low blow, and Claudio Castignoli ran in with an uppercut. Uno rolled up Page for the upset pin.

After the match, the Dark Order were more than happy to get out of the way of Castignoli and Takeshita, who entered the ring with steel chairs. Kenny Omega ran in with his own chair to chase off the BCC.

– A QTV segment recapping their recent successes. Harley Cameron still thinks she and Anthony Bowens will make a great couple, and Johnny TV kicked a perfectly good MP3 player into the trash to show how much he hates the Acclaimed’s music. He couldn’t just delete the tracks?

Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia vs. Matt Hardy & Jeff Jarrett (w/ Jarrett’s Oddities) to advance in the Blind Eliminator Tournament (7:38 aired).

Guevara came to the ring slapping hands with the crowd like a babyface. The winners of this match will face the Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin pairing on Dynamite Wednesday.

Hardy and Garcia started the match with a dance vs. “Delete!” off. There was a dueling chant for Karen Jarrett. Some of the fans loved her, and some did not.

Jarrett gave Guevara a hiptoss and then did the Fargo Strut. Guevara came back with a dropkick that sent Jarrett to the floor. Guevara went for a dive on Jarrett, but Jarrett pulled Jay Lethal in the way and he took the bump.

After a commercial, Hardy sent Garcia headfirst into all of the turnbuckles in one corner of the ring. A pull up-sit out powerbomb from Hardy got a near fall. Hardy hit a splash mountain out of the corner for another near fall. Hardy went for the Twist of Fate, but Garcia escaped and got the tag to Guevara.

Sonjay Dutt distracted the referee, and Lethal slid Jarrett’s guitar into the ring for Hardy. Hardy kicked it away, then walked into the GTH from Guevara. Garcia got the blind tag and got the pin, sending his team to the semi-finals.

After the match, Jarrett’s crew jumped Matt Hardy. Brother Zay tried to make the save, but he was overwhelmed and disposed of by Satnam Singh. Ethan Page ran in and evened the odds up enough to chase the heels away. I hope this is a genuine turn from Page.

Hikaru Shida defeated “The Problem” Marina Shafir (3:31)

Jericho put over Shafir as one of Ronda Rousey’s “Four Horsewomen.” Shafir dumped Shida out of a torture rack for a near fall. Shida came back with a series of forearms and a sliding knee for a near fall. Shida missed a dropkick off the top. Sharif went for an ankle lock, but Shida escaped, hit a kick, and landed the falcon arrow for another near fall. Katana kick got Shida the pinfall.

– Renee Paquette interviewed Kris Statlander, who has already defended her TBS title six times. Statlander is “the defeater of the undefeated,” which she and Paquette believe would make a really good t-shirt. Statlander ends with, “Kris Stat is where it’s at.” I think that would also make a very good shirt!

Big Bill & Brian Cage defeated Trent Beretta & Matt Sydal to advance in the Blind Eliminator Tournament. (12:24)

The winners here will face MJF and Adam Cole on Dynamite Wednesday, where I hope everyone will continue to learn about friendship from Max and Cole.

Beretta sent Big Bill to the floor with a leverage move over the ropes. Beretta tried to follow him out with a dive, but Bill caught him and chokeslammed him onto the ring apron. Bill slammed him back-first into the ring post, then tossed him to the floor. Bill played up his cocky heel persona and it was great.

During the split-screen break, Cage and Bill took turns tossing Beretta around the ring. Once the commercial ended, Beretta hit Cage with a spinning DDT and got the hot tag to Sydal. Sydal took Cage down with a series of kicks. Cage hit a kick of his own and went for the Drill Claw, but Sydal countered it into a hurricanrana for a near fall.

Sydal cut off Bill when he tried to interfere, and Beretta ran to hold Bill open for a kneedrop off the top from Sydal. Beretta followed up with a sliding kneedrop. Then Cage floored them both with a double lariat.

The fight went to the floor, and Cage tossed Sydal into the crowd. Beretta hit Cage with a spear, and Sydal came off the barricade with a meteora on Big Bill.

Back in the ring, Beretta and Sydal came off the top rope on Bill and Cage, but Bill hit Beretta with a black hole slam and Cage hit Sydal with a jackhammer. They went for a double pin but only got two. Cage and Bill accidentally clotheslined each other, and Beretta hit Bill with a half-and-half. Sydal came off the top with a meteora, but Cage caught him and tossed him into the turnbuckles. Cage set up Sydal for a powerbomb off the top, but Beretta popped up and German suplexed Page off the top rope! Beretta followed up with a piledriver, and Sydal came off the top with a meteora on Cage for another near fall.

Sydal and Beretta gave Bill a double superkick, but Bill shrugged it off and gave them a double clothesline. Cage and Bill fished off Sydal with an awesome double-team move: Cage held up Sydal for a powerbomb, and Bill killed him with a stiff lariat to get the pinfall.

Bill and Cage will now face MJF & Adam Cole in the semi-finals of the Blind Eliminator Tournament.

This was a great main event.

Final Thoughts: There was more star power in the opening match than in the last month of Rampage. They should do that more often. If you DVR’d this show, it’s worth checking out.

WWE SmackDown live results: The Trial of Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns is going on trial on tonight’s episode of SmackDown from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

It will mark the first time Reigns has appeared since his loss at Money in the Bank. At the pay-per-view, The Usos defeated Reigns & Solo Sikoa when Jey Uso pinned Reigns. It was the first pinfall loss Reigns has taken since December 2019.

The Usos are putting Reigns on trial in tonight’s Tribal Court segment. It may set up Jey challenging for Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam. The PPV is being held in Detroit on August 5. No matches have been made official yet.

Edge makes his return to WWE television tonight, appearing as a guest on The Grayson Waller Effect. The United States title will also be on the line as Austin Theory defends against Sheamus.

Plus, a grudge match between AJ Styles and Karrion Kross has been announced for tonight. Our live coverage starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

*******

The Trial of Roman Reigns

The Usos came out to start the show. Referring to Roman Reigns, The Usos said people told them he couldn’t be beat, and he was unbeatable. Then look at what happened at Money in the Bank.

Paul Heyman interrupted with Solo Sikoa. He said he would serve as defense counsel for Reigns. The Usos attempted to interrupt Heyman, but Heyman cut them off and told them only one person will tell him to stop talking. Sikoa grabbed Heyman’s microphone and threw it to the floor.

Reigns’ music then hit as he made his very long entrance, so long it went to commercial. It seems the trial of Roman Reigns is starting now.

After fans chanted he got pinned, Reigns admitted that he did get pinned, but he is still the tribal chief. Reigns said he has trouble understanding why he’s here tonight because since neither Uso is the tribal chief, they do not have the authority to put him on trial. He questioned who did.

The Usos ignored Reigns and instead introduced exhibit A, showing a montage of clips in which Reigns was shown berating, manipulating, humiliating, and attacking The Usos and Heyman. Despite the footage, Reigns said that is not who he was, that is what he was forced to be. You think I wanted to do all that? He said he did it for The Usos and Heyman. He said he main evented WrestleMania before the Bloodline, he bent his moral compass for the Bloodline and the representation of his family. He said his daughters were in the back not knowing who he was because of him.

He said he has five children in his household, do you think he needs to take theirs too? He doesn’t need this anymore, the money, the power. Reigns said he was done with all of it. He and Jey had a staredown before Reigns took off his lei and put it on Jey. He took off the WWE Universal Championship and bowed down in front of Jey, crying.

Jey attempted to console Reigns, but that was when Reigns sprung into action, low blowing Jey. Jimmy started to attack Reigns, but Solo stopped him. Solo then looked at the lei on the floor as Jimmy started to charge at Reigns. Sikoa laid Jimmy out with the spike and grabbed the lei. They were heavily teasing Sikoa was conflicted about what to do. Jey recovered and went after Reigns but Solo took him out. Reigns recovered and laid out Jimmy.

Solo tied up Jey across the ropes as Reigns berated him, telling him he’d never be the tribal chief. He blasted Jimmy with the WWE title and repeatedly attacked him, forcing Jey to watch. Reigns pummeled Jimmy with stair shots until Jey broke free, attacking Reigns. Solo laid him out with the spike. Reigns buried Jey with chairs as Solo laid out Jimmy with a splash, sending him through the announcer’s table. The segment ended with Reigns posing with the championship.

This segment took up the first 37 minutes of the show and was excellent in setting up what will likely be Jey Uso vs. Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.

After commercial, Jimmy was shown being stretchered into an ambulance, with Jey choosing to ride with Jimmy to the hospital.

Austin Theory defeated Sheamus to retain the WWE United States title

It was fine while it lasted, but a lot of it felt like it took place during the two commercial breaks and the finish was rather lame.

The match went about two minutes before going to commercial. When SmackDown returned, Theory was in control but Sheamus cut him off and hit a knee from the top rope for a two count. Sheamus cut off Theory as he was going to the top rope, with Sheamus meeting him there and going for white noise. Theory cut him off and hit a spinning side slam for a nearfall.

Back from another commercial, Sheamus was in control and went for the Celtic Cross. Theory cut him off but Sheamus hit a spinebuster and applied the cloverleaf. Pretty Deadly then ran down as Sheamus started attacking Elton Prince. Theory then hit a dropkick as the Brawling Brutes came out and took out Prince. Sheamus targeted Kit Wilson, who was on the apron. That allowed Theory to roll up Sheamus, grabbing the tights for the win.

They showed a video package of WWE events held at MSG including the first WrestleMania, SummerSlam 1988, the episode of Raw featuring Triple H’s return from injury in 2002, and more.

The Grayson Waller Effect with Edge

Waller says there’ve been a lot of great moments at Madison Square Garden, but not as his as the announcement his guest has tonight. He introduced Edge.

Edge started to put over the arena when Waller cut him off and told him about the big announcement. Edge didn’t seem to know what he’s talking about. Waller put his career over but asked why he had come back. Edge said it was because of the fans.

Edge talked about how his first premium live event was at SummerSlam 1998, and in New York respect is hard won. He has always been a hard worker and a dreamer and still is to this day. Waller said Edge was announcing his retirement and told the fans to thank Edge. Edge said Waller had been here for half a hiccup and hasn’t even had a match on the main roster yet. Edge told Waller it was time to sink or swim. He said he wasn’t retiring, in fact he’s going to have a match here tonight. He said it would be him against Waller.

They showed a long recap of what happened earlier with Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, and The Usos. The announcers said Jimmy was being “medically evaluated” and hoped to have an update by the end of the night.

AJ Styles defeated Karrion Kross

This went two minutes, max.

The announcers immediately pointed out that Kross’ leg was taped up and that he may have a leg issue. Kross cut off Styles and tried to go for the cross jacket. Styles cut him off with a pele kick and went for the phenomenal forearm. Scarlett attempted to distract him, but Michin at ringside took her out. Kross lifted Styles on his shoulders but Styles escaped and took out Kross and hit the phenomenal forearm for the win.

Asuka segment

Asuka declared no one was ready for Asuka. Bianca Belair came out and responded to that statement by attacking Asuka. Charlotte Flair ran out and met Belair as the two attacked one another. Asuka went to climb the top rope, but IYO SKY cut her off. Together she and Bayley laid out Asuka. SKY attempted to cash in, but Belair grabbed Bayley and dragged her to the outside as Charlotte hit a big boot on SKY as she was holding the briefcase. So no cash in.

Edge defeated Grayson Waller

I thought this was a good match, but the crowd was only sorta there for it. I thought the finish was rather good.

Edge started out in control, hitting a gutwrench suplex. He hit a fallaway slam and positioned himself for the spear, but Waller countered with a knee. He slid out of the ring and clotheslined Edge as the show went to commercial.

Waller remained in control as he worked on Edge’s neck. Edge attempted to come back with some forearms, but Waller cut him off. Waller went to the middle rope but Edge cut him off as he started to climb up. Waller fought back, sending Edge back down face first. Waller jumped off the turnbuckle, but Edge got the knees up.

Edge connected with a flapjack as Michael Cole announced that Jey Uso has arrived back at the building. Edge hit a crossbody off the top rope as Waller kicked out. Waller hit Edge with a boot in the corner, rolled over the back of Edge and hit the unprettier for a nearfall. He then landed a rolling forearm for another nearfall.

Edge cut off Waller with the edgecution DDT. Edge missed the spear in the turnbuckle as he went for his rolling cutter finish, but Edge instead hit the spear for the win. Cool finish.

After the match, Edge told Waller that “he swam.”

Roman Reigns was shown holding his lei backstage. Paul Heyman entered the room and told Reigns that Jey Uso was back at Madison Square Garden, and was looking for him. Reigns replied he wouldn’t have to look hard, as he’ll be in the ring.

Roman Reigns segment

Reigns was already in the ring as the show returned from commercial. Jey Uso’s music hit as he came out through the crowd. He attacked Sikoa, posting him as he stared down Reigns. Jey grabbed a chair and attacked Reigns with it. Reigns retreated as Jey repeatedly attacked Sikoa with the chair.

Jey then grabbed the WWE title that Reigns left behind. He grabbed a microphone. He said he was the judge, the jury, and executioner. He said it was trial by combat now. Jey challenged Reigns to a one-on-one match and told him he’d better accept it so he could “whoop his a** one more time.” That brought SmackDown to an end.

Impact Wrestling live results: Motor City Machine Guns vs. Nick Aldis & Lio Rush

A tag team clash previewing this month’s Slammiversary will highlight tonight’s Impact Wrestling on AXS TV.

The Motor City Machine Guns will take on Nick Aldis & Lio Rush after last Thursday’s incident where Aldis attacked Alex Shelley, was run off by Chris Sabin and then Sabin was laid out by Rush.

Shelley will defend the World title against Aldis while Sabin defends the X-Division title against Rush at the pay-per-view.

After a failed effort to be tag team partners, Frankie Kazarian will have a rematch with Eddie Edwards.

PCO will take on The Good Hands in a handicap match after John Skyler & Jason Hotch tried to bait PCO’s Slammiversary tag team partner Scott D’Amore into a warmup match last week.

In a preview of the Ultimate X match, Jonathan Gresham goes one-on-one with Angels.

Gisele Shaw will battle Courtney Rush while Sami Callihan & Rich Swann will be in tag team action. Dirty Dango vs. Crazzy Steve will be on the BTI pre-show.

**********

BTI pre-show:

George Iceman promised surprises for Impact Slammiversary.

Dirty Dango defeated Crazzy Steve

Dango came out and said he hated pro wrestling before Steve made his entrance. Dango won this after a few minutes with an inverted DDT.

Dango took a mic after the match and said he was going to enjoy ending Santino’s “puppet,” the cobra, at Slammiversary. Santino came out and claimed that the cobra was martial arts, while listing several others that he trained in. Santino said that he was going make Dango pay as Heath ran out and hit the Wake Up Call on Dango to Santino’s surprise.

Tom Hannifan noted that Heath said he was going to start fighting for what he believed in, which is apparently attacking unsuspecting people from behind.

Main Card:

Eddie Edwards (w/ Alisha Edwards) defeated Frankie Kazarian

This was a great match to open the show. I suspect we’ll be seeing more of these two given the finish.

Alisha was immediately trash talking Kazarian when the bell rang, and it briefly distracted Kazarian, but to no effect as he hit a right hand and some clubbing blows before hitting a suplex. Alisha hit a tornado DDT on Kazarian when she jumped off the apron onto him when the referee’s back was turned.

Kazarian tried to fire back, but Edwards raked the eyes and hit some chops. Alisha kept attacking at several points, always letting Edwards get the advantage, but after Eddie was kissing Alisha, Kazarian managed to hit a slingshot DDT over the ropes onto Edwards on the apron. Kazarian hit a springboard leg drop back in the ring for a 2-count.

Edwards went for the backpack stunner, but Kazarian countered out. After a few more counters, Kazarian hit a Unprettier for a 2-count. Kazarian went for the chicken wing, but Edwards countered out. Kazarian hit a back stabber, and Edwards hit a lariat before hitting a Tiger Driver for a two count.

Edwards went for a Boston Knee Party, but Kazarian ducked under and put on the crossface chicken wing. Alisha got on the apron and distracted the referee as Edwards drove Kazarian backwards into the referee. Kazarian went for the Flux Capacitor but Alisha Edwards hit Kazarian with a kendo stick, and Edwards followed up with the Boston Knee Party for the win.

– In a promo that initially aired on Twitter after last Thursday’s Impact, Chris Sabin cut a promo after being attacked by Lio Rush last week, saying that he was challenging Rush for Slammiversary and put his X-Division Championship on the line.

Rush then talked about how he wasn’t in Impact to make friends when Nick Aldis walked up and said that he didn’t do enough to beat Sabin yet, and they needed to win their tag match tonight. Aldis said that he didn’t want Rush’s ego to get in his way of winning tonight.

– Kazarian was backstage and talked about how Edwards cheated and wanted him one more time. Kazarian said that since Alisha would be at ringside, so he as bringing his wife, former Impact star Traci Brooks, to ringside for the trilogy match at Slammiversary.

Rich Swann & Sami Callihan defeated Champagne Singh & Shera

This was mostly a squash match with Swann and Callihan getting the win with Callihan picking Singh up for a piledriver, then Swann superkicking Singh in the face before the drop down for the win.

Moose & Brian Myers were backstage with Gia Miller scouting the match, and Miller wondered what they were going to do. Moose announced that they would be facing Callihan and Swann next week.

– Dango did another video package promo, talking about the last time he watched wrestling, apparently in 1998. His advice for all the young wrestlers was for them to go back to school. He said talking about the concrete construction of the wall behind him was more interesting than wrestling. Dango claimed Santino Marella wasn’t talented in any way and was just a one hit wonder. He claimed Heath was just hanging on and not a star, and suggested he work at Home Depot.

Jonathan Gresham defeated Angels (w/ the Design)

This was a quick, but fun match. Gresham is always a delight, and Angels is really good too.

The early parts of this match saw Angels getting into arguments with Deaner, with Deaner yelling that Angels should listen to him. Gresham took advantage of this and took control, hitting a dropkick that sent Angels to the floor to face more yelling from Deaner. Both men struggled over a vertical suplex, with neither being able to get it, and Angels hit a hip toss to drop Gresham.

Angels hit a half and half suplex on Gresham and then 10-punches in the corner. Angels hit a Northern Lights suplex for a 2-count. Angels and Gresham exchanged a series of pinfall attempts to no luck from either one until Gresham was finally able to lock on the Octopus stretch and pull Gresham to the mat for the tap out.

Gresham offered a handshake, but Deaner told Angels not to do it. Angels told Deaner that he decides what he does, and shoved Deaner away before shaking hands with Gresham and leaving. Deaner tried to tell Kon to take out Angels, but Kon tried to play peacemaker.

– ABC was backstage and talked about how they would be defending the Impact Tag Team titles and The Rascalz walked up and talked about wanting a shot. ABC said that they couldn’t jump the line, but Trey Miguel challenged Chris Bey, and said that if he won, they would be added to the match at Slammiversary.

– PCO was using car cables to electrocute himself while Scott D’Amore looked on in fear in preparation for PCO’s handicap match against The Good Hands.

– Highlights of the tour of Australia were shown with all the charity work they did, and the great time they had on the tour. This was great.

PCO defeated The Good Hands in a handicap match

D’Amore joined the commentary team for this match as the Good Hands (John Skyler & Jason Hotch) came out and said they were going to slay the monster, PCO. The Good Hands punched PCO, and it hurt them. PCO hit a double lariat and then a cannonball suicida to the floor. PCO hit a moonsault on to both men for the pinfall.

Hotch attacked D’Amore after the bell, but D’Amore responded with a popup sit-out power bomb and was about to hit the Canadian Destroyer when Bully Ray’s music hit and he came out. Steve Maclin came in through the crowd and low blowed PCO before hitting D’Amore with a chair.

Ray and Maclin beat on both men with chairs before handcuffing D’Amore to the ropes and getting a table from Hotch to put PCO through. Maclin and Ray put PCO through the table and then backstage, where they poured battery acid on his face and down his throat. Bully Ray then covered him in lighter fluid and set him on fire as PCO ran at the camera and collapsed in front of it. This was a crazy heat angle, which is fitting for the fire, and for Bully Ray — no pun intended.

Gia Miller met with D’Amore backstage and asked how all that would effect the match at Slammiversary. He said he didn’t know or care at the moment.

Gisele Shaw (w/ Jai Vidal & Savannah Evans) defeated Courtney Rush (w/ Jessicka)

I liked this match. Rush in this character is much needed change for her, and she was a fantastic babyface in this one. Solid performance from both wrestlers!

Shaw was trying to recover from a loss at the Impact Down Under tour, but had to retreat when Rush went for the sharpshooter. Shaw hit several running elbows in the corner before hitting a running European uppercut. Rush was draped across the middle ropes and got hit with a stomp from Shaw. Rush hit a Samoan drop after dodging the Denouement, but Savannah Evans and Vidal distracted Rush by attacking Jessicka on the floor so Shaw was able to roll up Rush and grab the tights for the win.

– Kenny King and Sheldon Jean were backstage when a fan walked up to King and asked for a picture. Then the fan tried to slip him some money because of Joe Hendry’s song exposing King’s time as a dancer. Another person walked up trying the same and said after that video the previous week, they were curious.

King said, “Don’t you dare say his name!” and Hendry showed up. Jean and King claimed that Hendry had no friends or backup, and his music hit again, and Yuya Uemura showed up with a new version of Hendry’s song. Hendry then asked how to say “champion” in Japanese. Uemura replied, “Champion.” I loved this so much.

Nick Aldis & Lio Rush defeated The Motor City Machine Guns

This long run of putting the Machine Guns in long matches on TV is paying off for Impact lately, because they have a fantastic match every single time. Lio Rush and Nick Aldis were excellent as well. This was a really great TV main event.

Aldis and Rush got the heat on Chris Sabin in the early portion of the match, using both Aldis’ size and Rush’s speed to keep the advantage. Sabin was able to break free when he slid to the floor after being Irish whipped and blind tagged by Alex Shelley. Sabin pulled Aldis from the apron before coming back in and hitting a double team PK with Shelley.

Aldis was able to ambush Shelley with some help form Rush before the ad break. When they came back, Rush and Aldis were continuing to get the heat on Shelley. Shelley blocked a punch from Rush and hit a flatliner into the middle turnbuckle on Aldis allowing Sabin to get the hot tag. Sabin ran wild, hitting dropkicks on both Aldis and Rush before punting Aldis from the apron and sending Rush backwards with a sunset flip into a rolling elbow from Shelley followed by a magic killer for a 2-count.

Rush managed to hit a handspring kick on both Machine Guns and then a tope con giro to the floor. Rush hit a Michinoku Driver on Sabin for a 2-count, and then Aldis hit a flying elbow, allowing Rush to get another 2-count. Sabin rolled out of a frog splash attempt and then hit some classic MCMG offence on Rush. Aldis made the save in a pinfall and locked the Kingsland cloverleaf on Shelley, but ate a superkick from Sabin. Rush hit a low blow on Sabin and then hit The Final Hour on Sabin while Aldis managed to keep Shelley from making the save.

Final Thoughts:

This was a very good episode of Impact this week, featuring some great wrestling and good build for Slammiversary. It honestly would have functioned well as a go-home show, but that will be next week. We’ll see if they can top this one.

Next Week:

  • Zachary Wentz vs. Chris Bey with a Slammiversary Tag Team title opportunity on the line
  • Kevin Knight vs. Mike Bailey
  • Moose & Brian Myers vs. Rich Swann & Sami Callihan
  • Deonna Purrazzo open challenge

New for Impact Slammiversary (July 15):

  • Impact Digital Media Champion Joe Hendry (w/ Yuya Uemura) defends against Kenny King (w/ Sheldon Jean)
  • Frankie Kazarian (w/ Traci Brooks) vs. Eddie Edwards (w/ Alisha Edwards)

After unsuccessfully defeating ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli last Friday on AEW Rampage, Komander will look to rally against Gringo Loco.

**********

We’re in the FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario for this week’s edition of Ring of Honor TV. Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman were on the call.

Komander (w/Alex Abrahantes) defeated Gringo Loco

This started off a bit clunky but rounded off into a fun lucha-style opener.

Komander took control with an acrobatic armdrag, but Loco handsprung out of a second one. Loco evaded a Komander corner charge and hit an alley-oop into the corner. Komander used the ropes to hit another armdrag to take Loco down, but Loco caught him with a torture rack slam for a nearfall. After some jockeying for position, Komander took Loco down with a headscissors.

Loco sent Komander to the apron, but Komander caught him with a boot before vaulting off of Loco’s shoulders. Komander sent Loco to the floor with a wheelbarrow armdrag before hitting a tornillo to the floor. Komander sent Loco into the ring and went to the top, but Loco cut him off. Daniel Garcia defeated Christopher Daniels

Commentary noted that Daniels’ eye had finally healed after having a bruise in the white of his eyes for months. Garcia hit his dance, leading to Daniels breaking out the Curry Man dance. What ever happened to that guy? Anyway, after Daniels sent Garcia into the turnbuckles a few times, Garcia vaulted Daniels to the floor to cut him off.

Kaun got the knees up on a springboard 450 splash for a nearfall.

The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) & Stu Grayson defeated Macrae Martin, Rip Impact & Zak Patterson

The Righteous team got a jump start from the Code of Honor. Grayson hit a spinning uranage to Impact before they hit a triple-team slam for the quick win. Vincent and Dutch never removed their entrance gear.

Big Bill & Lee Moriarty defeated The Boys (Brandon & Brent)

Big Bill looked fantastic here, throwing the Boys around like ragdolls.

Moriarty started with Brent, using his technical skills to control the match. A misdirection with a tag allowed the Boys to double-team Moriarty for a nearfall. Moriarty got a tag out to Big Bill, who neither Boy wanted to fight. Brent got on Brandon’s shoulders, only leading to Big Bill booting them down. Bill sent Brandon flying on a tornado DDT attempt, squashing him with a splash before booting Brent down.

Bill tagged Moriarty in, but Brent tagged in and ran wild. Both Boys hit dives on Moriarty, but Bill caught Brandon and chokeslammed him on the apron. Moriarty hit a leg lariat on Brent to score the win.

ROH Women’s World Title Proving Ground Match: Athena defeated Seleziya Sparx

Sparx got a little bit of offense here and looked good.

Sparx ran wild, hitting a lariat for a one-count. Athena caught Sparx with an exploder suplex. Athena drilled Sparx in the corner with a forearm before hitting a knockout elbow to score the win.

After the match, Athena jumped Sparx and sent her face-first into the belt.

Tony Nese (w/Mark Sterling) vs. JD Drake

On his way to the ring, Nese took to the mic to insult Drake’s weight. Nese offered a group workout, but Drake took the mic to say that he wouldn’t eat any of Canada’s food anyway. Mark Briscoe came to the ring with a mic in his hand. He said that after talking with Tony Khan, Briscoe has been added to the match, making this a three-way dance. Riccaboni jumped the gun on commentary, saying that Briscoe was the third man in the match before Briscoe added himself to the match.

Mark Briscoe defeated Tony Nese (w/ Mark Sterling) & JD Drake

Briscoe ran wild on both of his opponents before hitting a chair-assisted dive to the floor. Nese moved out of the way of a Froggy Bow, with Drake dropping Briscoe with a lariat. Nese and Drake teamed up on Briscoe, even while disagreeing on how to do it. Briscoe fired up but walked into a Bossman Slam from Drake. Nese broke up the pin, starting an argument between the two. But Briscoe fired up on both of them, hitting a uranage on Drake.

Nese cut Briscoe off on the top rope, but Drake sent Nese to the mat. Briscoe cut Drake off, leading to Nese hitting a sunset flip powerbomb. Briscoe hit the Froggy Bow, but Nese tried to steal the pin. Briscoe cut him off and hit the Jay Driller on Nese to win.

– We got a video package recapping Eddie Kingston and his NJPW Strong title victory on July 5th. Kingston says that due to his entry in this year’s G1 Climax, he won’t be able to be at Death Before Dishonor. He says that Claudio Castagnoli isn’t off the hook. Kingston challenges Mark Briscoe to go for the World Title at Death Before Dishonor and win it.

– We cut to Renee Paquette backstage with Mark Briscoe. Renee said that Tony Khan would give Briscoe the title shot if he wanted it. Briscoe accepted the title shot, saying that he wanted to follow in his brother Jay’s footsteps. Claudio Castagnoli entered the frame and told Briscoe not to listen to Eddie Kingston. He said that he had to show Eddie Kingston his limits and that he will show Briscoe his limits as well. Castagnoli offered a handshake, which Briscoe accepted, and told him not to get his hopes up.

– The match is official for Death Before Dishonor for July 21st. Claudio Castagnoli will defend the ROH World Championship against Mark Briscoe. A fine piece of business here.

Diamante defeated Vanessa Kraven

Diamante cut down Kraven at the knee, but Kraven hit a barge attack. Kraven sent Diamante out of the ring with a fallaway slam. Kraven followed Diamante to the floor and hit chops but chopped the post. Back in the ring, Diamante hit a drop-toe hold into the turnbuckle before hitting the hesitation dropkick for a nearfall. Diamante hit a wheelbarrow stunner and a Code Red for the win.

Six Man Mayhem Match: Brian Cage defeated Shane Taylor, Willie Mack, Dalton Castle, Trent Seven, Josh Woods

This was a good bit of fun. A nice, turn-your-brain-off scramble.

We got a Pier Six brawl to start. In the ring, Woods and Seven traded chops before Seven dropped him with a DDT. Mack took Seven down with a running kick. Mack hit a standing moonsault before Taylor dropped him with a headbutt. Cage caught Taylor with a superkick and a tornado DDT. Meanwhile, Castle kept getting fired out of the ring. Woods hit a suplex on Cage before Castle finally sent someone else to the floor.

We got a big strike flurry from everyone before Taylor dropped Castle with a rope-hung stunner. Seven hit the Seven Star Lariat on Taylor, but Woods caught Seven with a Doctor Bomb. There were moves aplenty as everyone hopped in the pool and hit their moves. Cage grabbed Seven and hit an inside-out superplex to everyone on the floor, but Mack caught Cage with a dive of his own. Mack hit a frog splash on Cage, but Nana grabbed Cage’s boot and put it on the ropes.

Seven hit a Sidewinder Slam on Mack for a nearfall. Mack recovered and hit Stunners on everyone in sight, but Cage caught him with a tights-assisted roll-up for the win and the $25,000.

Maria Kanellis-Bennett & The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) vs. The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Shawn Dean) & Trish Adora

On the ramp, Maria noted that unfortunately, she was not cleared to compete. She introduced her replacement, Leyla Hirsch.

The Kingdom & Leyla Hirsch defeated The Infantry & Trish Adora

Bennett and Dean traded chops to start. Dean took control with armdrags and chops before tagging in Bravo. Taven tagged in but got caught with a double team from the Infantry. Taven tagged Hirsch in, forcing Adora to come in. Adora used her technical skill to handle Hirsch, but Hirsch used a German suplex to take control. Hirsch avoided the Lariat Tubman, but Adora caught her with a short-range lariat.

Bravo tagged in and ran wild on the opposing men. He hit a misdirection neckbreaker on Bennett for a nearfall. Dean tagged in and hit a tag team uranage for a nearfall that got broken up by Taven. Bennett tagged out to Hirsch, but Adora beat her to the punch and sent Bennett to the floor. Dean hit a huge dive to Bennett on the floor, but Taven cut off Bravo and hit a dive onto all three men on the floor. Maria and Mike Bennett ran interference, allowing Hirsch to catch Adora in an armbar to score the win.

After the match, Lexy Nair met up with Hirsch in the back. Hirsch said the Kingdom needed someone legit, and that she was here to stay in ROH.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone and Taz, as they throw it to backstage moments ago where Renee Paquette is with Darby Allin & Keith Lee, both on opposite teams tonight. Allin said if Lee feels lost in the shuffle since losing the Tag Titles, then do something about it and pull his head out of his ass instead of pouting on the apron. Allin walked away and Lee smirked, saying that was both ballsy and stupid. Taz on commentary said Allin shouldn’t poke the bear.

AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin defeated Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland (w/Prince Nana) in a Blind Eliminator Quarterfinal

(If there was one word to describe this opener, it would be fun. Allin & Cassidy were tossed around quite a bit by Lee and it looked like their injuries would finally be their downfall, but ultimately the miscommunication set the stage for Swerve in Our Glory to fall.)

Allin immediately slapped Lee to start and as a result was hit with one of the biggest beals I’ve ever seen. Allin escaped a Supernova, tagged Cassidy, who tried his light offense until Lee double chopped him to the mat. Excalibur said he had never seen someone’s soul leave their body. Cassidy put his hands in his pockets, but suffered another chop, as Allin & Cassidy took turns hitting multiple Coffin Splashes and Orange Punches. Strickland made the tag and had a nice fast sequence with his former rival Strickland, who avoided a float over stunner and hit a leaping uppercut to the back. Allin appeared to tweak his knee in the process. Strickland was isolated briefly until the tables were turned on Allin, who found himself picked apart by the former Tag Team Champions.

Strickland tried a superplex on Allin, but Lee added a little more to it, by turning it into a Tower of Doom, powerbombing his partner in the process. Cassidy made the tag, as Allin had the ring steps dropped on his ribs outside by Strickland. Cassidy locked on a sleeper on Lee ringside, but Lee walked up the steps with Allin still trapped under them. Back inside, Lee blocked the DDT and Stundog Millionaire multiple times until finally Cassidy hit it and Allin followed with Code Red for two as Strickland broke it up by hitting a 450 on his partner, which made him smile. Lee & Strickland both tried for home run shots and collided with one another, as Cassidy hit a top rope DDT on Strickland and a diving one to the floor on Lee. This allowed Allin to wrap up Strickland with the Last Supper for the win. Lee gave a fist bump to Cassidy post match.

-We see footage of the Buddy Wayne academy and Darby Allin talking about young Nick Wayne running around while they were training as an 8 year old. Allin talked about Buddy passing away and the anger he had when receiving the news. Allin made a pact with himself to watch over Nick Wayne and make sure he gets everything he ever wanted in life. Allin recommended Tony Khan watching Nick’s matches and how at 17, was offered an AEW contract, but now he’s 18 and his time in an AEW ring is coming soon.

-Tony Schiavone is backstage waiting for Jungle Boy Jack Perry to arrive. Perry said he’s not a thug like HOOK; they need to fight in the ring like professionals, so he’s going to Tony Khan’s office to demand a FTW Title match. HOOK came bursting into the shot and got in a few shots before Perry took off in his car for the second week in a row.

**********

-Footage of the bonding time between MJF & Adam Cole is shown as they are training at the gym. MJF is doing reps on the bench, but Cole is preoccupied on his phone to spot him. MJF was making fun of another person when Cole told him that wasn’t cool, but they both said he reminded them of Tony Schiavone. Cole then did a crazy amount of reps and baffled MJF as the segment ended.

The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) & Daddy Ass defeated The Blade & The Bollywood Boyz (Harv & Gurv Shira)

(Well, there’s not much to say about the actual match, since we barely saw any of it. Instead, it looks like The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass are continuing their QTV feud.)

After an early shoulder block, Billy Gunn was going to moon the crowd, I guess, but referee Aubrey stopped him. Caster made the tag and ran wild with bodyslams and backdrops aplenty leading to Scissor Me Timbers. The Acclaimed & Gunn triple scissored into commercial where Caster was attacked from behind and isolated.

Bowens made the hot tag and hit a huge Fame-Asser before Gunn jumped in and hit the One and Only on Harv Shira. Caster capped things off with a Mic Drop for the win that took place about 30 seconds after they returned from commercial.

Harley Cameron interrupted on the big screen, upset The Acclaimed & Gunn ruined her singing a few weeks ago on Rampage. Cameron said she’s money on the mic and said next week she’ll have a video for them. Gunn took the mic and said he had two words for Cameron, suck it.

-Highlights of Eddie Kingston winning the New Japan Strong Openweight Title against KENTA, achieving his dream of winning a title in Japan is shown. We then cut to a video of Jon Moxley talking about his history with Kingston. Through good times and bad, both of them made it out, as he questioned why Kingston walks around so angry? They should make every day count instead of complaining about the new generation having no respect. Moxley said Kingston should let the past be the past and told Kingston to answer his phone. We see a graphic of the upcoming Blood & Guts and how both the BCC & Elite have one empty slot they each have to fill in the coming weeks.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with RJ City and Matt Hardy, who is waiting to find out his partner in the Blind Eliminator tournament on Rampage. RJ told him it’s Jeff, but not Hardy, instead Jarrett.

Don Callis Makes Chris Jericho An Intriguing Offer

Chris Jericho came to the ring to a massive ovation from the Edmonton crowd. Jericho said over the last few months, things haven’t gone the way he would’ve liked with the amount of losses he’s suffered. Jericho talked about how traveling in Alberta has invigorated him and potentially be the best Chris Jericho ever. Jericho is interrupted by Don Callis, whose entrance music sounded like just buzzing. Callis was booed out of the building when he said Jericho needed change. Six years ago Callis suggested Jericho main event the Tokyo Dome with Kenny Omega. Meanwhile, Jericho said he was the one who helped Callis get back into the wrestling business and into AEW. Callis said he’s had to build a new family since Kenny Omega destroyed his old one, a family built on trust. Callis said when he thinks about trust, he thinks of his best friend, Chris Jericho. If Jericho is ready to change history one more time, will he join the Don Callis Family? Jericho said he doesn’t join factions, he creates them, but his answer is, maybe.

-Video packages on the men’s Owen Hart Semi Finals this week on Collision is shown as CM Punk & Samoa Joe reignite their almost 20 year rivalry, while Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs start up their feud once more.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Doc Sampson and Roderick Strong, who is in a neck brace. Sampson said they need to be careful with Strong’s injury history, but Strong said he feels fine. Adam Cole walks in and tells Strong to be careful, as Strong questions the friendship between Cole & MJF. Cole just then got a text from MJF and said he needed to go, but he’d check in with Strong later.

AEW World Champion MJF & Adam Cole defeated Matt Menard & The Butcher in a Blind Eliminator Tournament Quarterfinal

(First off, Happy Birthday to Adam Cole! Now, if you like abdominal stretches, have I got the match for you. We all know it’s not if, but when or who will turn on each other first? This match was about the new “friendship” between MJF & Cole, as they are one step closer to winning this tournament. They could get a few more weeks out of this pairing before the wheels fall off.)

MJF did the Cole poses during the entrance, as Butcher & Menard attacked from behind, putting boots to the unlikely allies. Menard fires off forearms, but MJF starts no selling, slaps Menard in the face before getting an abdominal stretch. MJF wanted Cole’s assistant and reluctantly it worked briefly before Menard got a hip toss escape. MJF was isolated the whole commercial, including Menard & Butcher getting their own assisted abdominal stretch, which MJF got a low blow escape. MJF finally made the tag to Cole, who ran wild with a pump kick and neckbreaker over the knee on Menard. MJF yelled for a double clothesline, as Butcher & Menard both ate superkicks. Instead of granting MJF his wish, Cole lowered The Boom on Menard to win it.

Post match, MJF took the mic and asked the crowd if there were any Devil worshipers here tonight? He also asked if there were fans of a guy with a super over name and told Cole to do the name thing. Cole obliged, as MJF said they should have another bro session this weekend. The crowd chanted Yes, as Cole again obliged and MJF wished Cole Happy Birthday as streamers fell. Backstage workers came out with party hats and cake, as MJF put a hat on Cole. MJF started serenading Cole with Happy Birthday, as Cole stops him and said he appreciates it, but he’s done enough. MJF chanted with the crowd to make a wish, as MJF looked to the camera and said he’s going to shove Cole’s face in the cake. Cole turned the tables and MJF went into the cake. Cole thanked MJF for celebrating his birthday and went to the back, smirking.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Britt Baker, asking her thoughts on Ruby Soho’s comments last week. Baker doesn’t care about what people think about her, but Soho lied when saying she’s taken everything Baker has cared about. Baker will always have her pride, something Soho can’t say she has. Baker shows the Owen Hart Foundation belt she won last year, against Soho.

**********

-Renee Paquette is again backstage with Chris Jericho, Daniel Garcia & Sammy Guevara. Paquette asked about his maybe to Don Callis earlier tonight. Garcia said they need Jericho, but it’s Jericho who said both Garcia & Guevara need room to grow. Paquette informs them that Garcia & Guevara have been selected as partners in the Blind Eliminator Tournament. I wish we actually got more names picked out of a tumbler and said who they are instead of just “hey, you two are teaming.” As someone who was a big fan of the Battlebowl concept, just seems like a missed opportunity, especially when you have folks like Paquette & RJ City who could make the announcements entertaining.

Ruby Soho (w/Toni Storm & Saraya) defeated Dr. Britt Baker in an Owen Hart Tournament Match

(I thought this match came nowhere close to their Double or Nothing match last year for their Owen Hart tournament final. I understand how The Outcasts constantly interfere, but it really hampers the match at times and also makes the officials look real dumb as well. I’m happy Soho advanced, it’s something different, but this match could’ve been so much more.)

Both ladies worked early hammerlocks, but Baker hit a misdirect Sling Blade, which sent Soho to the floor to regroup. Baker went out to follow and was just standing around staring at Saraya & Storm before Soho hit a leg sweep into commercial, which saw Soho remain in control, as Saraya & Storm continued to interfere.

Baker fought back with forearms and clotheslines, which led to a swinging fisherman’s neckbreaker for a near fall. Baker wanted Lock Jaw, took way too long, as Soho tried No Future, but Baker countered. Storm tripped up Baker, allowing Soho to hit a Saito Suplex for two of her own. Soho missed a top rope dive, as Baker got a backslide into Lock Jaw, but yet again, Saraya interfered. Soho sent Baker face first into the Owen Hart title belt held by Storm, as Soho hit No Future for two. Soho tried Lock Jaw, but Baker kicked off the ropes and tried Lock Jaw, as The Outcasts pulled Soho to safety. Baker finally took out Storm & Saraya with superkicks, but as they went to repeat the spot that ended their Finals last year, Soho had the victory roll countered and held onto Storm during the roll up to steal it. Saraya & Storm went to the back, as Skye Blue walked out on stage to have a faceoff with Soho ahead of their semi final match.

Kenny Omega defeated Wheeler Yuta

(A very fun main event that saw Yuta really controlled a majority, with Omega selling his injuries. The plan of Don Callis backfired at the end, as Yuta couldn’t put away Omega again. Post match felt insanely rushed, even for Dynamite, as it we barely saw Dark Order get in the ring before going off the air.)

With this being his first action since Forbidden Door, Omega’s right shoulder & neck are taped up and Yuta attacked right at the bell. Both men traded chops until Omega unleashed a corner attack, high back drop and big back breaker. Omega connected with a Kotaro Crusher, but as he went for You Can’t Escape, Omega really hesitated and Yuta got his knees up on the moonsault. A dropkick sent Omega outside, where Yuta followed with a great looking tope. Omega tried fighting back on the apron, but Yuta zoned in on the taped up neck. It was all Yuta during commercial, until Omega mounted his comeback.

Omega hit the running palm strike to bounce Yuta like a basketball and violent fisherman’s buster for two. Yuta dodged a V-Trigger and countered into an Angle Slam for a near fall of his own. Yuta went to the top, but took too long, as Omega quickly followed to hit a massive leg trapped superplex. Both men traded forearm shivers before Yuta planted Omega with a nice bridging German for two. This led to rolling German attempts by Yuta, as Omega fought free and popped Yuta in the back with a V-Trigger and two Snap Dragons. Yuta nearly got a roll up, but Omega charged with another V-Trigger.

Yuta countered One Winged Angel into the Seatbelt pin, but Omega was up first with a powerbomb and V-Trigger. As Omega went for the home run shot, Don Callis came out and was held back by security. This allowed Konosuke Takeshita lay out Omega with a Blue Thunder Bomb, as Yuta followed up with a massive splash, but got two. Yuta went to climb the ropes, but Omega punched through the legs to the face and hit One Winged Angel to win a fun main event. Post match, Claudio Castagnoli hit the ring with Takeshita to put the boots to Omega until The Young Bucks & Hangman Adam Page hit the ring with chairs to even the odds. Castagnoli ate a BTE Trigger, but as Page went for a chair shot, Dark Order ran in to take the chair away at the last second of the show.

  • Ryusuke Taguchi, Boltin Oleg & Master Wato vs. Dragon Libre, Takahiro Katori & Rekka

Our live coverage begins at 5:10 a.m. Eastern time.

**********

Master Wato, Oleg Boltin & Ryusuke Taguchi defeated Dragon Libre, Rekka & Takahiro Katori

Rekka opened the match hot against Taguchi, prompting tags to Oleg and Katori. Oleg, in possession of Katori’s stuffed rabbit, played a dominant game of keep-away while establishing a solid lead for his team. From here on, the New Japan squad traded tags and custody of Katori’s bunny.

Taguchi slammed the bunny on the ground and shoved it into his pants to a chorus of boos, giving Katori enough time to mount a comeback and retake rabbit control. This led to a hot tag into Libre, who gave the FREEDOMS team a fighting chance. From here, the teams traded momentum with back-and-forth tags.

The match ended with an extended sequence between Rekka and Wato. Wato finished the bout with a bridging German suplex.

After the match, Taguchi attacked Katori and Katori’s rabbit.

Satoshi Kojima defeated Oskar Leube

This was great. Even with Kojima as a last-minute replacement, Leube put in a vivacious performance.

Leube opened the match with a shoulder tackle that knocked Kojima to the floor, but Kojima answered with one of his own. Leube tried for a chop in the corner, but again, Kojima responded with a barrage of chops. Leube kept up the fight, trading strikes with Kojima before landing a big slam.

Kojima kept Leube from getting too far ahead, hitting a quick Koji Cutter before attempting a lariat. Leube blocked the lariat with a big boot, but Kojima was quick to respond with another. After hitting the lariat, Kojima pinned Leube to win the match.

Catch 22 (Francesco Akira & TJP) defeated Homicide & Ryohei Oiwa

Nowhere near perfect, but this was another fun watch.

The match opened with a short back-and-forth between Homicide and Akira. After the tags, Catch 22 worked to isolate Oiwa, setting up a path for the rest of the match.

A hot tag to Homicide opened the door for a colossal comeback. Homicide hit TJP with multiple suplexes and a DDT for a near fall.

With Oiwa’s help, Homicide maintained his lead for some time, even with Catch 22 hitting the ring. Eventually, Catch 22 was able to clear the ring of Homicide and hit Oiwa with their double running knee to win the match.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship: BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney) (c) defeated CHAOS (Rocky Romero & YOH)

This match was nothing short of fantastic. I have a feeling that this War Dogs reign is going to be incredible.

Before the match could begin, Rocky asked if the match could be for the Junior tag belts. After some hesitation, Moloney agreed, making this a title match.

The match began with the War Dogs rushing YOH and Rocky, taking the match outside the ring. On the outside, CHAOS fought back, but back in the ring, the War Dogs established firm control, isolating YOH for some time.

A hot tag to Rocky allowed for a comeback from the babyfaces. YOH landed a falcon arrow, but Moloney avoided the tandem finish. Connors hit the ring to make the save.

Connors and Moloney hit Rockey with their tandem chop-block spear, forcing YOH to break up the pin. This led to an extended back and forth with multiple convincing near falls, including a 3K from YOH and Rocky. To close, Moloney hit a Drilla Killer, leading into the War Dogs’ tandem leaping spear/suplex.

Alex Zayne & Lance Archer defeated TMDK (Bad Dude Tito & Kosei Fujita)

Another entertaining match here.

The match began with Tito calling out Archer. Archer obliged, leading to the pair coming to blows. This encounter was short-lived, allowing the other two to lead a sequence of their own.

Once Tito tagged back in, he worked to isolate Zayne while taunting Archer. Once Archer eventually tagged in, he ran through Fujita and Tito with ease. Archer and Zayne then hit Fujita with their moonsault chokeslam for a near fall.

Tito hit the ring, turning the match into a chaotic brawl. Both teams worked to gain ring control, but after an extended back-and-forth, Archer killed Fujita with a lariat and pinned him.

After the match, Archer announced Zayne would be his new partner under the team name “Murder Sauce”.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, The DKC & Tomohiro Ishii defeated Team Filthy (Jorel Nelson, Royce Isaacs & Tom Lawlor)

This show keeps on giving.

After a brief opening with Tanahashi and Nelson, the match broke down. Ishii and Lawlor traded strikes as the rest of the men hit the ring. Eventually, the in-ring multi-man fight calmed down a bit, but the momentum continued to shift drastically.

After Team Filthy isolated DKC for some time, Ishii tagged in for a fiery rally. Isaacs answered Ishii’s comeback, leading to an intense back-and-forth between the pair.

Tanahashi tagged in, prompting Team Filthy to hit the ring again. An assisted falcon arrow and a running knee from Isaacs scored him a pair of near falls over Tanahashi. As Isaacs grew more desperate, Tanahashi took advantage, trapping Isaacs with a snug pin to win the match.

WrestleKingdom Announcement

WrestleKingdom was announced for its typical January 4, Tokyo Dome slot, along with a new logo. The show event will seemingly be one night.

NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship: Giulia defeated Willow Nightingale (c)

I had extremely high expectations for this match going in, but it blew them away. This was one of the best matches of the year, no qualifiers needed.

Giulia opened the match by rushing Willow, but Willow stuffed Giulia early, blocking an arm drag and a head-scissor takedown. Giulia attempted to take the match to the mat, but Willow continued to escape before landing a massive powerbomb to establish a strong lead.

After an extended period on the back foot, Giulia secured a choke which she turned into a DDT. This led to a bit of a rally, but a massive pounce put Willow back in control. The follow-up cannonball and driver resulted in an excellent pin attempt.

Giulia ate a buckle bomb, setting Willow up for a moonsault attempt. Giulia avoided the dive, allowing her to lock in her Bianca submission, establishing control for the first time. She followed with a throw that led to a joint strike exchange.

A pair of lariats from Willow dropped Giulia. Willow tried to follow up with a powerbomb, but Giulia reversed into a code red for a near fall. This led to an intense struggle for control that featured a super butterfly suplex for another great near fall.

Giulia dodged Willow’s next lariat, hit a knee strike and a Glorious Driver to close the match and win the Strong Women’s Championship.

IWGP Tag Team Championship: Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) (c) defeated BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Alex Coughlin & Gabe Kidd)

While not as good as their match from last night, this was still quite fun. These War Dogs are the best thing to happen to Bullet Club in years.

The War Dogs tried to rush Bishamon like they did last night, but Bishamon was ready. After withstanding the initial rush, Bishamon kept up the pace, attacking the War Dogs both in and out of the ring.

The fighting on the outside eventually allowed the War Dogs to gain some footing. This allowed them to write off YH for a while and begin to focus on Goto. After YH recovered, he tagged in and began a rally. Before Bishamon could hit a tandem finish, Coughlin hit YH with a chair. The War Dogs hit YH with a double muscle buster for a near fall.

A late match reset led to a Bishamon rally. After dropping Coughlin across Kidd’s knee, Goto and YH hit Kidd with Shoto. They then pinned Kidd to win the match and retain their tag belts.

NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship: Eddie Kingston defeated KENTA (c)

Everyone knows current KENTA can be hit or miss, but this was quite good.

KENTA baited Eddie into a chase early on, earning a quick lead. Eddie answered with a suplex and a chop, sending KENTA to the floor. Eddie pursued KENTA but missed a strike, driving his hand into the ring post. KENTA followed up, focusing on Eddie’s hand from here on.

Eddie fought back in a strike exchange and landed a pair of suplexes to gain a lead. Eddie locked in a choke, but KENTA walked into the ref. KENTA then baited a recovering referee into thinking Eddie was choking him with a shirt before really bumping the referee. KENTA then grabbed a belt but lost control of it to Eddie. Eddie thought about using the belt but decided against it. While Eddie was discarding the belt, KENTA grabbed another, which he used to drop Eddie.

Eddie kicked out of a double foot stomp and locked in a stretch plum in the middle of the ring. KENTA worked his way to the rope, blocked the follow-up back elbow, and connected with a flurry of strikes. KENTA then hit a running knee before attempting the GTS; Eddie blocked.

After avoiding Kenta’s finish, Eddie hit two weak spinning back fists. A massive lariat yielded a near fall. Eddie followed up with another back fist before picking KENTA up and dropping him on his head to win the Strong Openweight Championship. Eddie Kingston is a champion in New Japan.

Final Death Match: Jon Moxley defeated El Desperado

This, unsurprisingly, was an extremely violent match. I don’t think it quite lived up to their previous match, especially on a visual level, but it was an intense war.

Before the match began, two barbed wire boards were set up in the corners. Once the bell sounded, the men tried whipping the other into said boards, but neither could pull it off at this point. Instead, Desperado rolled to the outside and blasted Moxley with a pair of trashcan lids.

Desperado grabbed a table from under the seats. After whipping Moxely into the barricade, he set up the table and climbed up one level of stairs. Moxely fought Desperado on the stage and threw him into the table, but it failed to break. After the table held strong, Moxley placed Desperado on it and hit him with an elbow drop; it held firm again. Moxley then placed him on the table again and landed a double-axe handle; the table refused to break.

Moxley moved on, slamming Desperado into four standing chairs before shutting Desperado’s leg in a chair. Moxley then threw Desperado in the ring and began to stab him with a fork. Moxley followed up by throwing Desperado into the barbed wire board for a near fall.

Back on the outside, Moxley killed Desperado with his own guitar. Moxley didn’t waste time, using the remnants of Desperado’s guitar to stab at his neck. Moxley challenged Desperado to return to the ring, only to stab him with a fork and bite him after returning to the ropes.

Desperado began to fight back with chops and forearms before whipping Moxlet into the other barbed wire board. Desperado then placed the board’s remnants on Moxley’s back and drove it into him with a chair. Desperado hit a backdrop, and a Kasai frog splash for a near fall.

Desperado grabbed a cheesegrater stashed in a bouquet of roses to draw Moxley’s blood before grabbing another table. Desperado set up the table, topped with a barbed wire board. Both men struggled for control, resulting in both men falling back into the barbed wire-adorned hardware; “holy sh*t” and “this is awesome” chants rang through Tokyo.

Both men wrapped barbed wire around their hands before driving skewers into each other’s heads. Moxley followed with a cutter, a barrage of elbows, and a choke. Desperado refused to quit, forcing Moxley to drop the hold.

Moxley attempted a death rider, but Desperado avoided, hit a spinebuster, and a pinche loco for a near fall. Moxley answered with a death rider, but Desperado kicked out. It took a curb stomp, a lariat, and another death rider to close the match for Moxley.

Moxley closed the show by declaring himself the king of NJPW. He thanked Korakuen Hall for being the “heartbeat of pro wrestling”. He thanked Desperado and Kasai for the matches before paying special tribute to the late Danny Havoc, who Kasai greatly inspired. Moxley then left through the crowd, marking the end to one of the best New Japan shows of the year.

WWE NXT live results: Loser Leaves NXT

After tonight, either The Creed Brothers or The Dyad will be gone from NXT.

Julius & Brutus Creed are battling Rip Fowler & Jagger Reid on tonight’s pre-taped Fourth of July edition of NXT. The losing team will have to leave NXT for good. For the Creed Brothers, losing could mean a call-up to the main roster. For Fowler & Reid, it could mean a WWE exit. The Dyad requested to be released from WWE earlier this year but were denied.

An NXT Underground match is also set to take place with Eddy Thorpe battling Damon Kemp. To help train for the Raw Underground-style matchup, Thorpe enlisted the help of Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson. Kemp is Stevenson’s real-life brother Bobby Steveson.

Lyra Valkyria vs. Jacy Jayne, Roxanne Perez vs. Blair Davenport, and Mustafa Ali vs. Tyler Bate are also set to air tonight. Plus, WWE will follow up on how last week’s NXT ended. Bron Breakker was seen yelling at Shawn Michaels and storming out of Michaels’ office. Breakker said we’ll find out what’s going on tonight.

Our coverage starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

The entrance of Blair Davenport opens the show, and she is ambushed by Roxanne Perez. Their match is kicking off the show, and the fight starts before the bell.

Blair Davenport defeated Roxanne Perez

Davenport pinned Perez to win the show opener. The match goes through a commercial break.

Perez was holding her own until she is sent crashing into the ring steps. Davenport followed that with a running knee strike that sandwiched Perez into the steps. She barely broke the ten count.

Davenport executes a Falcon Arrow, but Perez somehow kicks out. Davenport then gives Perez two consecutive knee strikes, and Davenport covered her for a pinfall.

Ivy Nile says she is nervous for The Creed Brothers, but she is also confident in them. NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton interrupts and she banters with Nile.

A vignette shows Baron Corbin at his home. He was everything he wants except for a reputation. He wants to be feared and respected, and the vignette shows him burning the gear from his old gimmicks. No gimmicks needed for him. Looks like a reboot for Corbin.

Mustafa Ali defeated Tyler Bate

Ali pinned Bate after hitting a 450 splash. This was really good, and the they wrestled through a commercial break. This taped show seems very wrestling-heavy so far. Not a complaint.

The finish came after Bate went for his twisting senton, but no water in the pool. Ali flips to the top turnbuckle, and Bate springs up to join him. Bate looks about ready to fall off the top rope, but Ali seemingly saves him from falling off.

Like the Highlander, there can be only one. In this case, only one challenger or the North American title. Ali lets go of Bate and Bate crotches himself on the top rope. Bate falls into the ring in position for Ali to leap off the top with a 2 Cold Scorpio 450. Ali then scored a pinfall on Bate.

After the match, Ali breaks the fourth wall by looking into the camera. Ali formally challenges NXT North American Champion Wes Lee to a title match at The Great American Bash on July 30th.

In a backstage interview with McKenzie Mitchell, Joe Gacy and Ava comment on the loser leaves town match later on. Gacy cryptically says they will eliminate a problem from NXT.

Kelani Jordan (Dana Brooke) defeated Tatum Paxley

Jordan pinned Paxley in Jordan’s in-ring debut on NXT television. She got a full entrance accompanied by Brooke, while Paxley was introduced with no entrance and already in the ring. That did not bode well for Paxley by WWE logic.

For the finish, Jordan countered an attempted suplex into a stunner. Jordan then covered Paxley for a pinfall. Booker T and Vic Joseph sold the win for Jordan as an upset.

Jordan and Brooke were celebrating after the match when Cora Jade interrupted them. Jade cuts a promo on Jordan. Jade says a friend of Brooke is a enemy to Jade.

Heeling on the live studio audience, Jade starts cutting a promo on the fans when Jordan cuts her off. Jordan says she has another match left in her tonight, and she challenges Jade to settle it here and now. Jade says not to ever tell her what to do, and Jade leaves.

Andre Chase in a skit is back in the classroom at Chase U. Chase thanks and acknowledges Duke Hudson and Thea Hail. Chase begins to yell at a student for asking a stupid question. Hudson says he will handle it, and he yells at the student. This somehow builds to match with Charlie Dempsey and Drew Gulak.

Eddy Thorpe (with Gable Steveson) defeated Damon Kemp in an Underground match

Thorpe won via referee stoppage, after Thorpe caught Kemp in a triangle. Steveson was at ringside in Thorpe’ corner, and Steveson got into a post-match scuffle with several plants that attack him.

Unlike Raw Underground having its own separate set, NXT Underground takes place on the same soundstage in the PC as the NXT show itself. It basically looked like the Bloodsport shows promoted by GCW with better production value. Wrestlers in street clothes also surrounded the ring like lumberjacks.

There was some grappling and submission attempts mixed with wrestling spots outside of the ring. At one point, Steveson his comically holding his gold medal like Paul Bearer would do the urn for The Undertaker, willing him on to victory.

The fighting spilled onto the floor a few times. Kemp posted himself shoulder first, and Thorpe then targets the arm. Thorpe catches Kemp in a triangle. Kemp tries to power out, but Thorpe reapplies the triangle. The referee then jumps in to stop the match, awarding Thorpe the match.

Steveson was celebrating with Thorpe when one of the lumberjacks that surrounded the ring earlier suddenly jumps into the ring. The plant then starts fiddling with Steveson’s gold medal. This upsets Steveson. He takes off his medal, and he starts suplexing dudes like he was Taz in ’96.

Steveson gives he first dude a German suplex. Some other plant jumps in, and he gets dumped with a suplex. Another dude gets suplexed after trying to jump in. A fourth plant that towered over Steveson gets face to face with him. So Steveson suplexed him as well, after the guy pretty much jumped into Steveson’s arms. Thorpe puts the medal back around Steveson’s neck, and everybody lives happily ever after … except those dudes that got a suplex.

NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams have a message for Judgment Day. Hayes invites all of Judgment Day to come into NXT and follow through with a threat made by Rhea Ripley on the previous episode of NXT.

Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo is visiting Tony D’Angelo in jail. Stacks tells Tony D that Stacks made a deal with Joe Coffey. In walks Coffey. The deal made between Stacks and Coffey is a match between them for next week. If Stacks wins, the charges against Tony D are dropped and The Family get a tag title shot at Gallus. If Coffey wins, Tony D stays locked up. Tony D is angry with Stacks over the stipulations, and Coffey reveals it was Stacks’ idea.

Lyra Valkyria defeated Jacy Jayne

Valkyria pinned Jayne to win the match. To get her heat back, Jayne attacked Valkyria after the match for a beatdown.

For the finish of the match, Valkyria counters Jayne to deliver a shinning wizard. Valkyria followed with a roundhouse kick, and Valkyria covered Jayne for a pinfall. Jayne then immediately jumped Valkyria after the match, and Jayne tore up Valkyria’s gimmick wings shes wears to the ring.

Noam Dar is talking to a picture of the Heritage Cup like it is Head and he is Al Snow. This was wacky.

Kiana James is going into her office. The door has a “WET PAINT” sign and inside James’ office is vandalized with paint and graffiti. In was apparently the work of Gigi Dolan, as a measure of revenge for James pouring paint on her last week. James warns the gloves are about to come off.

Back inside the soundstage, Von Wagner was pummeling Javier Bernal. Mr. Stone convinces Wagner to put Bernal into the ring. Wagner instead powerbombs Bernal on the announce desk. The booth crumples and Wagner is proud of himself. Mr. Stone not so much.

Lucien Prince and Bronco Nima are the focus of another vignette that introduces them to the NXT audience. They debut next week.

The Dyad (Jagger Reid and Rip Fowler with Joe Gacy and Ava) defeated The Creed Brothers (Brutus & Julius Creed with Ivy Nile) in a losers leave town match

The Dyad won after outside interference by a masked assailant. The Creeds are in storyline done with NXT, as they must leave the brand according to the stips. Since The Dyad reportedly asked for their release, the result here is a swerve of sorts.

The Dyad jump The Creeds before the bell officially starts the match. The Creeds quickly make a comeback. Brutus does a wild plancha over the ropes into a cannonball. Julius does a shooting star press and goes for a cover. Gacy breaks up the count by pulling Reid out of the ring they are in the NWO. Thus, the referee ejects Gacy from ringside as the show cuts to a commercial break.

Gacy is gone after the show returns from the break, but The Dyad are in control as they work over Brutus. Hot tag to Julius and he looks to run wild. The Dyad try to cut him off, but Julius still runs wild. He skins the cat and does a dive to the outside.

Julius is cut off, leading to The Dyad getting some near falls on him. Julius fights back, only for Fowler to chop block Julius in the knee. By the way, Fowler’s head smacked the mat hard after he took a tandem move from The Creeds.

The match goes through another commercial break, with Julius in peril as The Dyad work over the injured knee. Eventually there is a hot tag, and Brutus is a house of fire. Brutus springboards off the top rope into a 450 splash for a near fall. Brutus then applied an ankle lock on Fowler. After escaping the hold, Fowler jumps off the middle rope to deliver a codebreaker.

At the urging of his brother, Brutus hulks up. He and Julius go to set up a Doomsday Device. However, Fowler trips up Brutus and puts Brutus into an electric chair. The Dyad then do their own Doomsday Device on the floor as Reid jumps through the ropes into a tope that knocks Brutus off Fowler’s shoulder. Brutus takes a bump on the floor, and the Creeds appear in peril.

Julius takes on the The Dyad by himself with Brutus selling like he is out cold. Julius fights off The Dyad, he suplexes both of them at the same time. Still selling his leg, Julius does a kip up and bounds to the top rope. Julius does a moonsault press on both of The Dyad. Julius is on a roll.

Ava jumps in to interfere, but Ivy Nile also jumps on. Nile waylays Ava, and they brawl. An unknown assailant wearing a red hoodie and a mask hops the barricade and attacks Julius. The unknown assailant headbutts Julius with the mask, presumably doing the loaded mask gimmick like he was The Assassin. The Dyad do a tandem codebreaker on Julius, and Reid covers Julius Creed for a pinfall. The Creeds must now leave NXT.

Finn Balor responds to Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams. Balor says he will see them next Tuesday.

Also announced for next Tuesday:

  • Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo vs. Joe Coffey (with Tony D’Angelo’s freedom on the line)
  • NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton against Ivy Nile in a non-title match
  • Andre Chase & Duke Hudson vs. Drew Gulak & Charlie Dempsey
  • Cora Jade against Kelani Jordan

Out comes Bron Breakker to close the show with a monologue. Breakker addresses his lose on a previous episode to WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. Breakker says he was a fraction of a second away from winning the world title.

Breakker boasts he faced the world champ after only having 78 matches so far in his career. Breakker laments that Rollins had more PLE matches in his career than Breakker has total matches. Breakker says he did not have the “luxury” to “travel the world and wrestle in high school gyms in front of nobody to learn this.”

Breakker gets in a LA Knight reference, noting he beat Knight in Breakker’s first match in NXT. Breakker says get used to seeing this face because he was plenty more to do. Breakker begins to contemplates what is next for him.

Enter Ilja Dragunov to confront Breakker. Dragunov tells Breakker that he is next. Dragunov wants to eliminate Breakker from being a contender for the NXT title, saying Breakker is the only person standing between Dragunov and a title shot.

Dragunov concludes by saying Breakker is “standing in the ring with the most dangerous man in NXT.” With that, Dragunov hits Breakker with a flying knee strike. There is a huge pull-apart brawl as referees, officials and wrestlers pour into the ring trying to separate Dragunov and Breakker. The show goes off the air with bedlam and chaos.
