Kenny Omega vs. Hangman Page set for AEW Full Gear

The finals in the tournament to determine the next no. 1 contender for the AEW World title are set.

Following Wednesday’s semifinal matches on Dynamite, Kenny Omega and Hangman Page will face off against one another at November’s Full Gear pay-per-view with a World title opportunity awaiting the winner.

Page defeated Wardlow after two buckshot lariats to open the show and in the main event, Omega defeated Penta El Zero M after Omega cut Penta off with a v-trigger and pinned him with a One Winged Angel.

Page and Omega split up as a team following All Out where they lost the World Tag Team titles to FTR. Omega made it clear since then that he is focusing on a singles career and wants nothing to do with Page.

Already announced for Full Gear:

  • Jon Moxley vs. Eddie Kingston for the AEW World title
  • Cody vs. Darby Allin for the TNT title
  • FTR vs. The Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team titles
  • Hikaru Shida vs. Nyla Rose for the AEW Women’s title
  • Chris Jericho vs. MJF with a spot in the Inner Circle on the line
  • Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara in an Elite Deletion match
  • Buy In pre-show: Orange Cassidy vs. John Silver

Two title matches, Cassidy vs. Silver made for AEW Full Gear

The Full Gear card is nearly complete after Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite.

Two title matches were made as TNT Champion Cody will defend against Darby Allin while Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida will meet former champion Nyla Rose in a rematch.

Cody successfully defended his title against Orange Cassidy in a lumberjack match Wednesday while Allin looked on. This will be their fourth meeting in AEW as they went to a draw at last year’s Fyter Fest while Cody beat him at January’s Homecoming edition of Dynamite and then again in the semifinals of the TNT Championship tournament.

In the other new title match, Shida accepted Rose’s challenge from several weeks ago during a backstage interview segment. This will be the first time they have met in a singles match since Shida defeated Rose for the title at May’s Double or Nothing. Rose has won her last six singles matches since then.

In another match made Wednesday, Orange Cassidy will face John “4” Silver on The Buy In Show, made when Silver kicked Cassidy behind the referee’s back in the aforementioned TNT title match, helping Cody pick up the win.

In other Full Gear related news Wednesday, the Young Bucks added a stipulation to their tag team title challenge against FTR, MJF will face Chris Jericho with a spot in the Inner Circle on the line, and Kenny Omega will face Hangman Page in the finals of the AEW World title no. 1 contender tournament.

Chris Jericho vs. MJF announced for AEW Full Gear

Chris Jericho and MJF will go at it one-on-one at November’s AEW Full Gear with a stipulation.

The match was set up during Wednesday’s town hall meeting between members of the Inner Circle and MJF to determine if the latter could join the group. Both men answered questions from a number of AEW personalities. Eric Bischoff made an appearance, asking MJF what he would bring to the Inner Circle and vice versa.

After Bischoff’s questions, Jericho brought up that MJF has never beaten him. He said that he would give MJF a shot at Full Gear and if he defeats Jericho, MJF would be able to join the Inner Circle.

MJF said he would do anything to win and then reiterated that claim as he and Jericho had a staredown. Ortiz broke it up, saying that he and Sammy Guevara are onto MJF, challenged he and Wardlow to a tag team match next week.

Young Bucks add stipulation to AEW Tag Team title match at Full Gear

The Young Bucks have added a new stipulation to their match against AEW Tag Team Champions FTR at the Full Gear pay-per-view.

During a sitdown interview on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, the Bucks told Excalibur that if they don’t win the titles at Full Gear, they will never challenge for them again.

The Bucks also explained their recent actions in superkicking various people backstage, including Tony Schiavone and Alex Marvez. Matt explained that sometimes good people do bad things. He and Nick have been missing an edge, and when FTR started to mess with the Bucks and their friends, it lit a spark under them to do something more. It was Matt’s idea to add the stipulation.

The segment also featured FTR, interviewed from a separate area. Dax Harwood said that while this may be a dream match, they care more about retaining the titles. When Excalibur asked Nick to further expand on some of Matt’s comments, the champions got mad and left the interview.

This is identical to a stipulation from last year where Cody said if he was unable to beat Chirs Jericho for the AEW World title, he would never challenge for it again. He lost and the stipulation has stuck.

AEW Dynamite live results: World title eliminator semifinals

The show opened with a backstage interview segment.

Dasha Gonzalez asked MJF what it would mean to him if Wardlow were to win the AEW World title. MJF said that Wardlow is under contract to him and if Wardlow wins, MJF becomes AEW Champion. MJF asked Wardlow to confirm that. Wardlow looked annoyed, but agreed.

Sammy Guevara entered and MJF did his condescending fake friend bit with Sammy. Sammy told him to cut the sh*t. MJF said Sammy looks like he sells adderall to middle schoolers.

Sammy said he was going to keep MJF out of the Inner Circle. MJF dared him to step up and do something about it. Guevara took a step forward and MJF begged off.

AEW World title eliminator semifinal: Hangman Page defeated Wardlow

Page was on fire here. An excellent performance.

Page fired off a shotgun dropkick at the opening bell. The action spilled to the floor.

Wardlow speared Page through the barricade and went on offense. Page came back with an armbar over the ropes. Wardlo suplexed Page back in. Wardlow missed a senton bomb.

Page clotheslined Wardlow to the floor and hit a moonsault off the post. Back inside, Page hit a standing shooting star. Wardlow kicked out at one.

Wardlow blocked the Buckshot Lariat and hit his own clothesline for a near fall. Wardlow hit the F-10 but Page rolled to the floor before Wardlow could make a cover.

Page hit a fall-away slam off the top rope. Two Buckshot Lariats later, Page covered for the pin.

The announcers previewed the rest of the show.

**********

A Jon Moxley promo video aired. Moxley said there was no room for an excuse-making Eddie Kingston in this AEW. He said AEW is for the best athletes who put in the work. He said he’s made the AEW title the richest prize in sports and Kingston should protect his neck.

**********

Kingston, Butcher, Blade and Bunny came to the ring. They showed a highlight from Dark in an inset and explained that The Bunny had maxed out QT Marshall’s credit cards.

**********

After an ad break, Kingston cut a promo in the ring. He called Moxley a coward for not being there tonight.

Kingston reminded us that he was never eliminated from the Casino Battle Royale at All Out and that Matt Sydal was the Joker in that match. Sydal entered for the next match.

Eddie Kingston defeated Matt Sydal

They opened with some chain wrestling. Sydal hit a spin kick and a sliding dropkick in the corner. He tried another kick but Kingston caught it and slammed him. Kingston was in control before a commercial.

After the break, Sydal made his comeback. Sydal hit a flying headscissors with Kingston seated on the top rope.

Kingston hit a kitchen sink to cut Sydal off, then used Moxley’s bulldog choke to submit Sydal.

**********

Young Bucks/FTR interview

Excalibur and The Young Bucks were in one location, FTR and Tully Blanchard in another.

Excalibur asked Matt about his ankle injury, diagnosed as a severe sprain and a contusion. Matt said he’ll be at Full Gear.

Dax said he’s not afraid of internet backlash and FTR will do what they have to do.

Matt explained the heelish actions of The Bucks of late. He said sometimes good people do bad things. He said The Bucks have been missing an edge and when FTR started screwing with and manipulating their friends, it lit a spark under them.

Excalibur asked Nick to dive deeper on that. FTR got agitated and walked out on the interview.

Nick said that Matt had proposed a stipulation and he wasn’t sure how he felt about it.

Matt said that if they lose at Full Gear, they will never challenge for the AEW Tag titles again.

As a next step in the story, this was fine.

**********

The Inner Circle Town Hall

Dasha Gonzalez and Tony Schiavone were the moderators.

Inner Circle entered first. Jake Hager was absent and the announcers explained that he’s training for an MMA fight.

MJF then entered.

Luchasaurus asked the first question. He asked MJF how he would keep the earnings potential strong for The Inner Circle. MJF showed a chart that demonstrated how the earnings would go up with him in the group.

Reba and Britt Baker asked the next question. Reba fawned over Jericho. Baker asked Jericho about MJF’s poor track record when it comes to friendships. Jericho said he’s not a dipsh*t like Cody and he won’t let MJF into the true Inner Circle, and if he tries to turn on them, they’ll knock his teeth down his throat.

MJF said that they all got into this business for money and championships, and that together, he and Inner Circle would make a lot of green and win a lot of gold.

Eric Bischoff entered and asked what MJF could do for The Inner Circle, what The Inner Circle could do for him.

In phrasing the next part of his question, Bischoff said that he’s worked with Jericho and that he’s a prima donna. He said MJF has a lot of the same traits and how would they get along without destroying each other.

Jericho told MJF to answer the question. MJF said Jericho can’t be serious and what hasn’t MJF done?

Jericho said MJF hasn’t beaten him.

Jericho said he’s going to give MJF a shot to beat him at Full Gear. If MJF wins, he’s in.

Ortiz then grabbed the mic. He said he and Sammy are out on MJF and even if he wins, he’ll never be in with them. He said Santana is somewhere in the middle.

Ortiz then announced himself and Guevara vs. MJF and Wardlow for next week.

**********

A Team Taz video played. They’re still waiting for an answer from Will Hobbs as to whether he will join their group.

**********

Orange Cassidy entered with Best Friends for the TNT title match before a commercial.

**********

TNT Championship lumberjack match: Cody defeated Orange Cassidy to retain the title

The story here was that the babyface lumberjacks had their loyalties split, while the heels were just there to create chaos.

Cody got into it with Best Friends on the floor. Trent hit Cody with a right hand and allowed Cassidy to establish an early advantage. Cassidy hi t a delayed vertical suplex.

Cody cut Cassidy off and hit a biel. He used a single-leg crab in working Cassidy over during a break. After the commercial, Cody hit a superplex off the post onto a bunch of lumberjacks as the lumberjacks fought amongst themselves.

Cassidy hit a stundog millionaire and a tornado DDT for a near fall. He followed with Beach Break for another two count.

Some of the lumberjacks took the referee. John Silver jumped in and hit a pump kick on Cassidy. Cody didn’t see the kick but took advantage of it, as he hit Cross Rhodes and pinned Cassidy.

**********

Darby Allin watched all of this from the upper deck of the building.

**********

Kip Sabian and Miro approached Best Friends backstage. They offered them presents and said they were sorry for overreacting when Best Friends broke their arcade game.

Penelope Ford entered dressed as Orange Cassidy for Halloween.

All of this was a ruse. Miro and Sabian attacked Best Friends. Miro said he will never forgive Best Friends.

**********

Serena Deeb cut an inset promo before the match. She said the belt represents legacy, tradition and respect. She said she changed the game and she’ll show you why you should respect her.

**********

NWA World Women’s Championship match: Serena Deeb defeated Leyla Hirsch to retain the title

They kept this simple but it was very good. A great example of a veteran walking a talented rookie through a match.

Hirsch used a variety of holds in attacking Deeb’s left arm. There was a commercial break in the middle of the match.

After the break, Hirsch hit a pump knee and a German suplex. Hirsch missed a moonsault. Deeb pounced right away and hit two neckbreakers.

Deeb then used an arm capture single-leg crab and Hirsch tapped out.

**********

Alex Marvez asked Hikaru Shida about the number one contender to her title, Nyla Rose. He said Rose is refusing to wrestle until she gets a title match.

Shida said “Nyla, you want me? I want you at Full Gear.”

So that’s a new Full Gear match.

**********

Shawn Spears (w/Tully Blanchard) defeated VSK

The only move of the match was a C4 from Spears. Spears pinned VSK.

**********

After the match, Spears pulled a guy in a bull costume out of the crowd and into the ring. The bull unmasked and revealed Scorpio Sky. Sky hit a TKO on Spears to further their angle.

**********

John Silver vs. Orange Cassidy was announced for the Full Gear Buy In.

Miro vs. Trent, Spears vs. Sky, plus Cody & Gunn Club vs. Colt Cabana, Ten and Silver were announced for next week. Jericho will also be on commentary next week.

The main event is next.

Omega had his dancing broom girls wearing Penta and Fenix masks for his grand entrance.

AEW World title eliminator semifinal: Kenny Omega defeated Penta El Zero M (w/Rey Fenix)

Super main event.

Omega took off his shirt to reveal the AAA Mega title he won from Rey Fenix. This pissed off Penta and Fenix.

Omega and Penta had a chop battle to start. Omega then began laying in heavier strikes. Penta fired back with a heavy palm strike to the chest and a chop. Penta hit a backstabber and a tope con giro. Penta sold his knee after landing the tope.

Penta posted Omega’s right arm. Omega kicked at Penta’s left leg. They brawled into the crowd during a commercial break.

Back inside, Omega hit a kotaro krusher. He followed with a terminator dive. Omega celebraed the dive too long and Penta recovered. Penta hit a kick and a crossbody off the post to the floor.

Penta missed a double stomp off the top but hit a slingblade for a two count. Penta hit a double stomp with Omega caught up in the corner.

Omega hit two snap dragon suplexes. Penta blocked a third. Omega hit a powerbomb and a v-trigger for a near fall. Penta avoided a One-winged Angel. Omega hit a leg lariat and a v-trigger.

Omega teased a top rope dragon suplex but Penta blocked. Omega teased a suplex to the ramp but Penta blocked. Penta hit a destroyer on the ramp. In the ring, Penta hit a package piledriver for a great near fall.

Omega blocked a pumphandle driver. Penta hit an enzuigiri. Omega blocked a slingblade attempt with a v-trigger. Penta fought off another attempt at the One-winged Angel and used a Fujiwara armbar to wrench back on Omega’s right arm.

They traded strikes. Penta hit a superkick. Penta tried a springboard attack but Omega hit a v-trigger.

Omega then connected with the One-winged Angel and pinned Penta to advance to the tournament final at Full Gear.

Deeb wins NWA Women’s title, first title defense set for AEW Dynamite

Serena Deeb won the NWA Women’s title tonight on Primetime Live, and the first title defense will be on Dynamite.

Deeb defeated Thunder Rosa to win the championship for the first time. The finish had Rosa in control with a German suplex and a knee strike, but Deeb surprised Rosa by rolling her up for the win. The two shook hands following the match.

Deeb is currently under AEW contract, with the company announcing her signing back in September. On Twitter, Tony Khan announced that the first title defense would take place on Dynamite against Leyla Hirsch.

“Congratulations to the new @nwa Women’s World Champion @SerenaDeeb!” Khan wrote on Twitter. “She’ll make her 1st title defense v. @LegitLeyla on #AEWDynamite tomorrow night, Wednesday on TNT at 8pm ET/7pm CT on a huge show with several big matches on the card! Thank you great fans who make AEW possible!”

Rosa won the championship at the NWA Hard Times iPPV event in Atlanta, Georgia in January, defeating Allysin Kay. She had held the championship for 278 days.

UWN Primetime Live is a collaboration between the NWA, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, and other promotions under the Championship Wrestling umbrella. NWA titles have been defended on the program in recent weeks. Elijah Burke defeated Zicky Dice to win the NWA Television championship on the October 20 episode.

AEW Dark results: Cutler vs. Avalon III, Hikaru Shida vs. Leyla Hirsch

The Big Takeaways:

Brandon Cutler finally picked up his first AEW victory as he defeated Peter Avalon in a no disqualification match. This week’s show was light on storytelling but had plenty of entertaining in-ring action with three very good matches: Dark Order vs. Top Flight, AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida vs. Leyla Hirsch, and the aforementioned Cutler vs. Avalon bout.

Show Recap:

Excalibur and Taz were joined on commentary by multiple guests throughout the show including Anthony Ogogo (AEW’s first developmental wrestler), Miro, Brandi Rhodes, and Ricky Starks.

Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) defeated Top Flight (Air Wolf & Angel Dorado)

This was Top Flight’s AEW debut, and despite some sloppiness at times, they really impressed me with their incredible athleticism. They are a solid team of high flyers who compete most notably for GCW. I have only ever seen them billed as the names Air Wolf and Angel Dorado, but Excalibur referred to them as both their ring names and their real names.

Dorado surprised Uno with a dropkick early on and Top Flight hit big moves, but Grayson cut him off with a chop. After a long beatdown, Air Wolf hit a backflip kick and reached Dorado for the hot tag. Dorado and Grayson botched a neckbreaker attempt, but Dorado was able to recover into a spinning heel kick and a tijeras. Air Wolf tagged in as his brother hit a dragonrana and he followed it up with a frog splash for a near fall.

Uno cut Top Flight off once more and Grayson flipped Dorado into his brother in the corner. An assisted tope suicida dispatched Dorado and Dark Order hit the Fatality on Air Wolf to end it.

Ricky Starks defeated VSK

Starks dominated the majority of the match. He missed an elbow drop, leading to VSK coming back with strikes and a backbreaker. Starks countered an O’Connor roll and hit a spear and Roshambo for the pin.

– Eddie Kingston and the Bunny, formerly known as Allie, were backstage. He gave her a chance to talk about why she turned on the Nightmare Family. She mocked QT Marshall for falling in love with her despite her clearly taking advantage of him. Now, she’s “back with her real family.”

Matt Sydal defeated Lee Johnson

Johnson is a step above just about every other regular Dark performer. Like the opener, this was a bit sloppy at times, but still much more entertaining than the majority of Dark matches.

They performed technical wrestling at the start. Johnson took control after a series of arm drags. Sydal reversed a whip into a sidewalk slam where it appeared Johnson was supposed to rotate over but ended up being dropped right on his head. Sydal followed with a leg lariat for two.

Sydal rolled Johnson up but the latter immediately turned it into a crucifix pin for a near fall. After a few submission attempts, Sydal hit a Northern Lights bomb for another two. Johnson sent Sydal to the outside and followed it up with a series of dives before Sydal crawled under the ring and blindsided his opponent.

Back in, Johnson hit a springboard dropkick, but Sydal hit a Michinoku driver for another near fall. Johnson hit an enziguri, but Sydal hit a swinging slam and applied a cobra clutch for the submission victory.

AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida defeated Leyla Hirsch in a non-title match

This was Hirsch’s AEW debut, having made her name in Stardom and CZW and she looked great: very technically proficient with some highspots sprinkled in. In fact, having watched every single episode of Dark, I would say this was the best women’s match in Dark history.

Hirsch is known as a submission specialist and so the two wrestled around to start. They challenged each other to a shoulderblock battle, but Shida turned one into a backbreaker followed by a running knee lift on the outside.

Back in, Shida nailed another backbreaker for two before continuing the beatdown with strikes and a suplex into the corner. They traded forearms in the center of the ring, but Shida missed a strike and was sent outside where Hirsch hit a dive. Hirsch hit a catch backdrop driver in the ring for two, but missed a moonsault. Shida hit a sliding elbow strike for two.

Hirsch fought her way out of a cradle into a cross armbreaker, but Shida turned it into a stretch muffler before Hirsch reached the ropes. Hirsch hit a sequence of strikes before being cut off with a running knee. Shida then hit the Tamashii knee strike followed by the falcon arrow for the hard-fought victory.

– QT Marshall cut a promo on the Bunny. She took everything from him, including his dignity, but her family won’t take the Natural Nightmares’ spot in the rankings. Dustin Rhodes appeared and mentioned that he and Marshall are no. 3 while Butcher and Blade are no. 4 which appeared to set up a match.

Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, & Marko Stunt) defeated Danny Limelight & Jersey Muscle (Steve Gibki & Tony Vincita)

This was very entertaining. Limelight and Jersey Muscle debuted here; the former has made a name wrestling for NJPW of America. He and Jungle Boy went through a rehearsed sequence at the start. Stunt tagged in and hit a diving headscissors before he and Jungle Boy hit a double team. Stunt ran wild on all three of his opponents before being cut off and driven into the barricade by Jersey Muscle.

Stunt hit a German suplex and evaded Gibki to reach Luchasaurus for the hot tag. Luchasaurus chopped down his opponents and hit the Tail Whip on Vincita followed by a reverse Death Valley Driver on Limelight. Vincita hit a missile dropkick to stop Luchasaurus’ offense, which lead to a parade of dives from everyone in the match. The final dive was hit by Limelight, who hit a tornillo crossbody to Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus on the outside.

Back in, Jersey Muscle hit a powerslam/neckbreaker combination on Stunt for two. Stunt escaped and tagged in Jungle Boy, who dispatched his opponents with kicks. Jurassic Express performed the wackiest setup for a tornado DDT you’ll ever see before throwing Stunt into a destroyer on Limelight for the pin.

SCU (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) defeated The Hybrid2 (Jack Evans & Angélico)

This match was solid and well-worked, if a bit rudimentary. Kazarian and Angélico performed chain wrestling at the bell. Angélico couldn’t find an advantage, so he tagged in Evans but he had no luck either. Daniels tagged in, but Evans distracted the official while Angélico attacked him for the heat.

Angélico maintained the advantage with his llaveo submissions, but Daniels fought back with an STO, leading to the hot tag to Kazarian. Kazarian fought off both of his opponents and hit an ocean cyclone suplex for two. Daniels attempted the Angel’s Wings, but Evans hit a hurricanrana out of it. Kazarian launched himself in with a slingshot DDT for two. SCU attempted the BME, but Angélico cut Kazarian off. Daniels pulled Angélico out of the ring and Kazarian cradled Evans for the win.

Post-match, the Hybrid2 attacked their opponents and stood tall.

Anna Jay defeated Katalina Perez

Jay was joined by the Dark Order for her entrance. She hit the Dangerous Jay kick right away, but Perez cradled her for a quick near fall. Jay continued to dominate before Perez eventually hit clotheslines in an attempted comeback. Perez immediately missed an elbow drop and Jay applied the sleeper, forcing Perez to submit.

Brandon Cutler defeated Peter Avalon in a no disqualification match

This was just great and easily one of the best and most memorable matches in Dark history.

Justin Roberts preceded his ring introductions with “For the love of God,” emphasizing that these two men are winless and someone *must* win. Leva Bates was here, as she’s been at the center of this feud. Cutler dove into the ring to attack Avalon ahead of the bell, but Avalon gouged at his eyes. Cutler fought back with a short-arm clothesline before Avalon speared him through the ropes onto the ramp.

Avalon tossed Cutler off the ramp towards the timekeeper and hit a diving lariat. He set Cutler up on a table, but Cutler moved before Avalon was able to put him through it. Cutler covered Avalon’s body with a garbage can and dropped an elbow on him on the floor. Cutler propped up a table against the ring, but Avalon backdropped him through it.

The crate that contained Bates’ books was Avalon’s next weapon. He attempted an inverted meteora into the book pile, but Cutler evaded it and hit a lifting inverted DDT for two. Cutler grabbed his 20-sided die and teased a bag of thumbtacks, but the bag contained many smaller dice. They fought to each suplex each other onto their weapons before Avalon countered a springboard and hit a uranage onto the pile of books for a good near fall.

Avalon got into an argument with Bates, calling her “worthless” which led to Bates slapping him. Cutler took advantage with a sunset flip, but Avalon domed him with a book out of the pinfall. Avalon pulled out brass knuckles, but Cutler nailed him with a powerbomb into the pile of dice.

They fought on the apron, and Cutler dropped himself and Avalon through a table on the outside with a back suplex. The story was that Avalon also hit Cutler with the brass knuckles while he was being put through the table.

The Young Bucks came out to motivate Cutler. Avalon headed up top but was met with a right hand as they fought up top. Avalon hit a top rope frankensteiner onto the dice, but Cutler rolled through into a cradle for his first AEW victory.

Post-match, the Bucks celebrated with an emotional Cutler.

Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent?) (w/ Orange Cassidy) defeated Anthony Bowens & Max Caster

Caster brought a mic and started rapping from the ramp before the match which was as ridiculous as it sounds. He and Bowens controlled the vast majority of the match against the no. 2 ranked AEW tag team, which was a puzzling booking decision.

Caster and Bowens beat down Taylor for a long time before a knee strike bought him enough time to tag in Trent for the hot tag. Trent hit strikes and power moves, but Bowens and Caster cut him off yet again. Trent eventually had enough and flattened Bowens with a backdrop driver. Taylor dispatched Bowens and Best Friends hit the Strong Zero for the pin.

– Alex Marvez was looking to talk with Scorpio Sky, but when Sky invited him into his dressing room for the interview, it had been trashed by Shawn Spears who painted “THIEF” on the mirror.

FTW Champion Brian Cage defeated Fuego Del Sol in a non-title match

Cage dominated early and taunted his smaller opponent by performing curls with his body, but Del Sol reversed one into a hurricanrana for two. He attempted a dragonrana, but Cage hit a powerbomb, a buckle bomb, and Weapon X to complete the squash.

Dark Order’s 10 (w/ 5) defeated Sean Maluta

Dark Order’s naming standards continue to be baffling. One week, he’s Preston Vance. The next week, he’s Preston “10” Vance. Now, he’s just “10.” It’s genuinely changed every single week for the past three months.

Anyway, 10 crushed Maluta with a powerbomb, forcing him to the outside. 10 talked with the referee while 5 beat down Maluta at ringside. Back in, 10 won with a spinebuster and a reverse ripcord lariat. Post-match, 5 and 10 flattened Maluta a powerslam/double stomp combination.

Ivelisse & Diamanté defeated KiLynn King & Savannah Evans

Ivelisse & Diamanté beat down Evans early on. It took a long time for King to even tag into the match, but she eventually did after Evans hit a uranage. King ran wild with clotheslines, but Ivelisse broke up a pinfall attempt. Diamanté then hit a Code Red for the quick victory.

Sonny Kiss defeated Aaron Solow

Solow took advantage when he foiled Kiss’s springboard attempt. He acted quite heelish in this match, taunting Kiss as he continued the beatdown. Kiss came back with a cradle but was met with an overhead throw for two. Kiss fired up with a series of strikes and hit an axe kick followed by the split leg drop for three.

Post-match, Lance Archer ran out and destroyed both men as Jake Roberts narrated. Archer took the microphone and addressed both Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston. He doesn’t care who wins their Full Gear match because he’s never going to stop coming for the AEW World title.

Will Hobbs defeated Nick Comoroto

Comoroto nearly matches Hobbs in size. They traded power moves, but Hobbs hit a spinebuster and a frog splash for the win in under three minutes.

Darby Allin defeated Alex Chamberlain

Allin immediately applied the Fujiwara armbar, but Chamberlain reached the ropes. Chamberlain acted like his knee was injured, but it was a ruse as he crushed Allin with a huge backbreaker. He continued his beatdown with tons of power moves as Allin bumped around like crazy.

Allin kicked out Chamberlain’s knees and guillotined him through the ropes. He then hit a rope assisted Coffin Drop followed by a stunner and a second Coffin Drop for the win.

Post-match, Ricky Starks, who had been on commentary, baited Allin out of the ring. It was a trap, however, as Cage attacked from behind. Hobbs ran out with a steel chair and made the save.

Final Thoughts:

After a rough couple weeks, AEW Dark finally returned to being a good show.

The competitive, action packed matches from the early portion of the show were so much better than what they had been offering in recent weeks. Seriously, Shida vs. Hirsch may be the best women’s match in Dark history while Cutler vs. Avalon is among the best matches in Dark history overall.

It’s still too long –– this was the longest Dark show yet at two hours and twenty minutes –– and I question some of Dark’s booking like allowing the enhancement workers to go 50/50 (or better) against established talent or offering little in the way of storytelling, but still, this particular show easily eclipseed the efforts from the last couple weeks.

Eddie Kingston vs. Matt Sydal announced for AEW Dynamite

Ahead of challenging for the AEW World Championship at Full Gear, Eddie Kingston will be in action on Dynamite this week.

AEW has announced that Kingston vs. Matt Sydal is set for this Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite. Kingston is challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at Full Gear on Saturday, November 7.

The I Quit stipulation for Moxley vs. Kingston stems from their title match that took place on Dynamite last month. Moxley retained the AEW World Championship with a bulldog choke, but Kingston passed out instead of submitting.

Here’s the updated lineup for this week’s Dynamite:

  • World title eliminator semifinals: Kenny Omega vs. Penta El Zero M
  • World title eliminator semifinals: Hangman Page vs. Wardlow
  • TNT Champion Cody defends against Orange Cassidy in a lumberjack match
  • Eddie Kingston vs. Matt Sydal
  • Inner Circle Town Hall with Chris Jericho and MJF

The finals of the World title eliminator tournament are being held at Full Gear. The winner will get a future World title shot against Moxley or Kingston. Rey Fenix had defeated Penta in the first round of the tournament and was originally supposed to face Omega in the semifinals, but Fenix forfeited his win against Penta due to injury.

Abadon vs. Tay Conti not airing on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite

Dave Meltzer confirmed on Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio that the previously scheduled Abadon vs. Tay Conti match for Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite will not be airing.

On Saturday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez said the match taped last Thursday had to be ended early due to Abadon catching an elbow to the throat and having difficulty breathing. The match was stopped and she was sent to the hospital for evaluation. He said no one is really talking much about the situation.

He believes they taped a Shawn Spears match to put in its place but couldn’t confirm.

This Wednesday’s show will feature a TNT Championship lumberjack match between Cody and Orange Cassidy; the second round of the AEW World title no. 1 contender tourney featuring Kenny Omega vs. Penta El Zero M (filling in for the injured Fenix) and Hangman Page vs. Wardlow; and an Inner Circle town hall to discuss whether MJF should join the group.

Fenix out of AEW World title eliminator tournament due to injury

Due to injury, Rey Fenix is out of AEW’s World title eliminator tournament.

AEW posted a video today where Eddie Kingston announced that Fenix is forfeiting his first round win against Penta El Zero M in the tournament due to injury. Penta will face Kenny Omega in the semifinals on Dynamite next Wednesday (October 28).

Kingston told Fenix that he had to forfeit his spot because it’s not about Fenix — it’s about The Family.

Fenix defeated his brother Penta in the first round of the World title eliminator tournament on Dynamite this week but got hurt in the process. The entire first round of the tournament was held this Wednesday, with Fenix defeating Penta, Omega defeating Sonny Kiss, Hangman Page defeating Colt Cabana and Wardlow defeating Jungle Boy. Page and Wardlow’s semifinal match will also take place on Dynamite next Wednesday.

The finals of the World title eliminator tournament will be held at Full Gear on Saturday, November 7. The winner will get a future shot at the AEW World Championship.

Jon Moxley is the current AEW World Champion. He’s defending his title against Kingston in an I Quit match at Full Gear.

Serpentico reveals he is under contract with AEW

Serpentico is officially under AEW contract, revealed in an interview with Inside The Ropes.

The 36-year-old said he signed his deal several months ago and put over how welcoming the environment is and that he is happy to be part of the team. The length or details of the contract weren’t given.

A 13-year pro trained at the 3D Academy, he kicked off his AEW career in March under his real name Jon Cruz, bringing the Serpentico character to TV two months later. He has primarily been on Dark outside an All Out pre-show match and two Dynamite appearances.

One of those appearances was part of the Chaos Project tag team with Luther as they main evented the Chris Jericho 30th anniversary celebration against Jericho and Jake Hager in a losing effort.

In his career, Serpentico/Cruz has also made appearances in NXT, Impact Wrestling, and Ring of Honor in enhancement roles.

Alex Reynolds and Fenix injured on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite

This story was updated at 1 PM Eastern.

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite saw both Alex Reynolds and Ray Fenix get injured during their respective matches.

Reynolds was involved in the four-way tag team main event, teaming with Dark Order partner John Silver against The Young Bucks, The Butcher & The Blade and Private Party.

The injury occured when Reynolds took a big splash/leg drop combo from Private Party and was immediately knocked out, his right arm staying in the air during a pinfall. After he just laid there, Blade eventually dragged him into a corner and tagged himself in. Reynolds continued to lay there unconscious as action happened around him.

After several minutes without any medical attention, he staggered up to his feet and he and Silver took several moves from Nick Jackson but was still clearly out of it. He was eventually pushed out of the ring and not seen again.

On Wednesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez said he heard Reynolds was “feeling great afterward” but there was no further update on his condition.

Earlier in the night, Fenix was hurt during his AEW World title contender tourney match against Penta El Zero M.

The two were battling on the second rope when Fenix jumped up and hit a twisting headscissors on Penta. When Fenix hit the mat, he appeared to land awkwardly on his neck and left shoulder and was slow to recover, awkwardly taking a overhead throw of sorts from Penta afterward.

He could be seen talking to referee Aubrey Edwards throughout this happening and eventually recovered after a few minutes, getting back into the flow of the match and both hitting and taking several big spots.

On WOR, Dave Meltzer said he had no update other than Fenix was said to be “sore”. As of this point, he is scheduled to face Kenny Omega in the tourney’s second round for next week’s show which is expected to be taped Thursday.

AEW Dynamite video highlights: Chris Jericho and MJF dinner duet

The semifinals were set in the World title eliminator tournament and new number one contenders to the AEW Tag Team titles were crowned on last night’s Dynamite.

Those items played second fiddle to a Chris Jericho and MJF Le Dinner Debonair, which broke down into a musical performance by the two.

Very little was advanced in the Jericho/MJF storyline, as this segment was purely about entertainment. Some liked the segment, some disliked the segment, nearly all will remember the segment.

Rey Fenix, Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, and Wardlow advanced to the semifinals of the World title eliminator tournament. Fenix will face Omega and Page will face Wardlow on next week’s Dynamite. Omega debuted a new entrance last night for the return of his Cleaner character as well.

The Young Bucks won a four-way main event over Private Party, Butcher & Blade, and Alex Reynolds & John Silver to earn a Tag Team title shot at FTR at Full Gear.

The feud between AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston continued as video was shown of Kingston cutting a promo on Moxley after Dynamite went off the air last week. Both men then cut video promos on each other. Kingston and Moxley will meet for the World title in an I Quit match at Full Gear.
