Donovan Dijak reveals WWE NXT backstage reaction during Kenny Omega online feud

Donovan Dijak revisited the 2019 online feud with Kenny Omega. The dispute arose over Omega’s remarks on AEW focusing on featuring real talents unlike NXT’s developmental wrestlers on Being The Elite Vlog.

In an interview with Fightful’s In The Weeds Podcast, Dijak revisited the tension at the Performance Center during the time. He revealed that a few coaches were supportive of him standing up for NXT. Fast forward to now, he still perceives Omega as one of the best wrestlers in the industry.

“A handful of coaches at the PC, said that they liked that I was sticking up for us, cause that’s just kind of how I felt in that moment. When I go back, I don’t even remember what article I was talking, for those of you who aren’t familiar, there was some sort of article I think with the benefit of hindsight, he was probably in character when he was doing this, but I don’t know. It was a very volatile time and he said something effective, like everybody on the NXT roster like would be a midcarder in AEW or something like that and again I’m paraphrasing, obviously, that’s offensive to me because I’m on the NXT roster, so I took a jab at him.”

“I doubt he took it personally. Maybe he did. I don’t know if he meant his thing personally. Maybe he did. I don’t know. I’ve never spoken to him since, and we only had two interactions before that. It was a time when people were saying all sorts of stuff about the other ones. In my youth, I was the kind of person who enjoyed stoking the flames, so to speak. I had no issue with it. I’ve been on record many, many times saying that I think Kenny Omega is one of the best wrestlers in the world. I can’t say that enough,” said Dijak.

Dijak further added that while he felt his retaliation was relevant, many of the current AEW stars are former NXT talents.

“My anger was about the attack that was happening to us. Ironically, now, pretty much everybody on the roster, on the black and gold roster, is on AEW or has been on AEW at some point. So, you know, I’m sure nobody actually cares. But, you know, like everything else in pro wrestling, you just kind of take something that has semblances of reality and you go off with it. But, you know, that’s just kind of the nature of how it was going back then.”

AEW premiered Dynamite as a weekly series in 2019 shortly after the promotion was launched, and it instantly clashed with NXT which also aired on Wednesdays.

Dijak was released by WWE in 2024 after a seven year stint with the company. Since then he has been competing across the indies, most notably MLW, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre and WXM.

Young Bucks address whether Being The Elite is fully returning

It’s still up in the air as to whether Being The Elite will be making a full-fledged return.

After a long period of dormancy, the Being The Elite YouTube channel was revived at the end of August. The Young Bucks have continued to post regular content since then but have not made any official announcement as to what their plans for the channel are. Thus far, they have uploaded shorter-form content rather than full episodes.

“We’re playing it by ear,” Matt Jackson told Undisputed in a new interview. “We’ve been very careful not to publicly say it’s back officially or even call what we’ve aired as episodes. We’re referring to it all as BTE content.

“It’s getting a positive reaction, for sure. We don’t want to overpromise, but we’re definitely having a lot of fun with it.”

The channel has nearly 500,000 subscribers on YouTube but has not uploaded a full BTE episode in more than two years. Dating back to the pre-AEW days, the vlog series played an important role in helping The Young Bucks connect with fans and grow their popularity.

AEW’s WrestleDream pay-per-view this Saturday will feature a tag match between The Young Bucks and the newly reunited Jurassic Express. Both teams are AEW originals and former tag champions.

“It’s kind of crazy that AEW has now been around long enough to already have a rich history with acts that feel, in a way, nostalgic,” Matt Jackson said about the matchup. “Jurassic Express just feels warm, fun, and familiar. When their music hits, it just brings out the kid in everyone.”

Jackson added that the match is happening at a time when he and his brother Nick feel like they’ve found their spark again.

“We have really found that spark again, that love of the game,” he said. “It’s been a year where we’ve really dug into our old bag of tricks and gone all out, so it only makes sense to go out there and kill it with two AEW originals. We all take great pride in our matches together.”

Matt Jackson says ‘someone high up in AEW’ reached out about BTE revival

Matt Jackson discussed the possibility of Being the Elite returning during a Q&A session on the travel YouTube channel he shares with his wife, Dana.

Jackson said he’s been approached by “someone high up in AEW” about bringing back the popular YouTube show. He also mentioned there have been discussions about creating BTE: The Movie, although he sounded skeptical about such a project.

“We’ve actually discussed putting in real money and doing a movie… I don’t know,” he said on the show.

“I’ve actually been contacted recently by, I won’t say who it was, but someone high up in AEW about bringing it back, and I don’t know.”

Jackson then mentioned the idea of creating a documentary from the unused footage they’ve collected over the years of doing Being the Elite.

“It would be fun to do a documentary on everything too because there’s so much footage, hours and hours and hours of unused footage. Brandon has a whole library that nobody even is aware of.”

“Me and Nick told Brandon for years, just shoot everything. Anything and everything. Even the things that are really taboo, like putting matches together, wrestlers who don’t have their masks on, we have all that stuff. Hours and hours and hours of that, because I always knew that one day we would probably do some type of documentary on everything, on our lives, a proper documentary on our whole career. That’s one project I would love to do before it’s over. We’ll see. I don’t know, I have a lot of big dreams.”

Being the Elite episodes stopped airing in the fall of 2023. In November of that year, they were replaced by episodes of Being the Dark Order. It’s been nine months since the last video was posted on the channel.

Jackson and Dana’s full Q&A where they discuss their trip to O’ahu is available below:

BTE releases ‘Being the Dark Order’ premiere episode

The first episode of “Being the Dark Order” was released on Monday.

Days after it was revealed that Being the Elite would not return, the BTE YouTube channel published a new video featuring The Dark Order on Monday. Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds, and John Silver spent the majority of today’s episode trying to recruit more people for the show.

In storyline, The Dark Order purchased the rights to BTE using sponsorship money from Chilis. At the very end of the first episode, Evil Uno is shown texting with Matt Jackson about the deal.

“I can’t believe you spent all your chilis money on a sinking ship like BTE. You are gonna F this up like you F everything up!” Jackson’s text to Uno reads.

Last week, Brandon Cutler posted to social media that The Young Bucks had “finished up” with BTE. Then on Friday, our own Dave Meltzer wrote in the Daily Update that the show really is done.

“We’ll write more about it this coming week, but BTE is not on hiatus, it’s actually done. As of this point in time, there are no plans to bring it back,” Meltzer wrote.

Being the Elite done, no plans for show to return

Being the Elite is no more.

Our own Dave Meltzer wrote in today’s Daily Update that there are no plans to bring back the popular YouTube series.

“We’ll write more about it this coming week, but BTE is not on hiatus, it’s actually done. As of this point in time, there are no plans to bring it back,” Meltzer wrote.

While videos of Brandon Cutler and Colt Cabana have been uploaded to the BTE YouTube channel in recent weeks, episodes featuring The Young Bucks, Adam Page, or Kenny Omega have not been posted in a month.

Cutler recently posted to social media, “Sources close to Matt and Nick are telling me that they have officially finished up with Being The Elite.”

Details regarding the future creative direction for The Young Bucks was addressed in today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Meltzer noted that the plan is for them to return after some time off as heels and possibly as part of a heel stable with Cutler.

The first episode of BTE was posted in May 2016. The show would play an important part in the pre-AEW popularity of The Elite and helped build storylines taking place in ROH or NJPW at the time. The first official announcement regarding AEW was made on the January 1, 2019, episode of the show.

The Young Buck’s absence on their own YouTube show continues.

After losing the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championships last week to the Mogul Embassy, Hangman Page, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson were all absent from BTE this week.

Three videos were uploaded to Being the Elite’s YouTube channel on Monday. The first featured a clip from a previous Halloween-themed episode and featured Cody Rhodes telling a spooky story.

The second was a short video featuring Brandon Cutler at a Memphis Wrestling event with Prince Nana. Clips of them interacting with fans at a pre-show meet and greet were shown.

The third video uploaded to the Being the Elite YouTube channel on Monday featured a dark match from last week’s Dynamite and Rampage show. Cutler and Colt Cabana were defeated by John Silver and Alex Reynolds in tag team action.

Following the loss to Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony on Wednesday, Matt Jackson appeared frustrated and banged a chair against the ring post several times. Later in the show, he confronted Kenny Omega about his alliance of late with Chris Jericho, saying he doesn’t forget what Jericho did to the Bucks’ father years ago.

It was another edition of Colt on the Street on today’s Being the Elite.

Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, and The Young Bucks were all absent from the show again this week. The episode featured Colt Cabana and Brandon Cutler interacting with fans in Philadelphia as AEW was in the city for Dynamite and Rampage.

They quickly ran into a young fan wearing a Danhausen mask who was very excited to meet them. Cabana also told one fan that he loves her and she was somewhat hesitant to reciprocate.

Another fan featured on the show this week had several wrestling-themed tattoos. He had tattoos of Earthquake, Doink, Crush, and was wearing Billy Gunn shorts. Another fan was dressed up as Dusty Rhodes and did a very impressive impersonation of him as well. After the show, they asked a fan how he thinks they did in their match and he only responded that they had nice outfits.

Being the Elite was a special episode this week featuring Colt Cabana and Brandon Cutler.

Cutler and Cabana walked around Rosenburg, Texas, and spoke with fans as AEW was in town for Dynamite and Rampage. The entire episode was just the two of them interacting with people and doing funny little bits with them.

Highlights from this week’s show include a young fan teaching Cabana how to superkick and then pinning him in an impromptu match. The kid and Cabana upheld the code of honor after the short match by shaking hands.

Cabana also asked a fan dressed up as Hulk Hogan why he “kayfabed” him at SmackDown tapings in 2004. Another fan was dressed up as Mistico and they congratulated him on his win over Rocky Romero. They also ran into fans of The Acclaimed, Young Bucks, and more. The two approached the merchandise table as well and discovered that there were no Cutler or Cabana shirts for sale, which did not surprise them.

VIDEO: Being the Elite – ‘Private Jet’

MJF had a special message for Kenny Omega in the opening moments of Being the Elite this week.

The AEW World Champion visited Omega and The Young Bucks backstage and appeared to be very complimentary to everyone. However, MJF also leaned in and whispered in Omega’s ear, “26 days you f—ing b**ch.”

The 26 days comment could be a reference to how much longer MJF needs to be champion for to pass Omega’s 346-day reign with the AEW World Championship. At the time the scene was recorded on Wednesday, MJF was 26 days away from breaking Omega’s record. As of this writing, he’s been champion for 324 days.

Jon Moxley has held the AEW World Championship for more combined days than anyone else. He’s spent 347 days with the belt across three reigns.

Footage of the Bucks taking a private jet to Dynamite this week was shown. Brandon Cutler, Colt Cabana, and Matt Sydal teamed up for this week’s BTE dark match as well. They were defeated by The Dark Order.

Former UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson was also shown this week. He was involved in a trash talking segment, of sorts, with Omega.

Cutler cam footage of Nick Jackson vs. Fenix from Dynamite aired.

Cabana also debuted a new “Colt on the Street” segment and Matt Jackson posed for Tumblr again.

VIDEO: Being the Elite – ‘Helicopter’

Video —

This week’s BTE featured The Elite in Broomfield, Colorado for Dynamite.

Nick Jackson spoke about how he wasn’t originally scheduled to wrestle on last Wednesday’s show. He ended up having to find gear on short notice for his four-way match. Nick earned a future title shot against International Champion, Rey Fenix, with his win.

The Dark Order also visited the Elite in their locker room and continued to blackmail Matt Jackson. They are threatening to tell the other Elite members about the deal they made for the Hung Bucks IP. However, things took a turn when Matt pulled John Silver’s pants down exposing his genitals. Silver then did the helicopter move references in The Dark Side of the Ring episode on the Plane Ride From Hell.

Colt Cabana and Brandon Cutler also spent some time bonding as a tag team.

Ryan Nemeth was also back at the writers’ strike this week. This was filmed before the deal to end the strike was announced. He asked several picketing writers and actors who their favorite wrestler is and many of them answered that it’s him.

The show closed with The Young Bucks teasing they have a surprise in store for Wednesday’s Dynamite, one that likely relates to AEW’s newest signing, Adam Copeland.

VIDEO: Being the Elite – ‘Get The Duck Out’

Video —

This week’s episode of Being the Elite featured The Young Bucks, Hangman Page, Brandon Cutler, Matt Hardy, and more backstage at AEW Grand Slam.

Matt Jackson, Hardy, and Christopher Daniels were talking about how they used to be the young guys in the business but are now veterans. Hardy and Daniels spoke about how they’ve both been wrestling for over 30 years and have only wrestled each other twice.

Mark Sterling aired a commercial on BTE this week. He announced that he doesn’t just represent wrestlers but also former MTV celebrities. Mark Long, of MTV’s Road Rules, gave a testimonial of Sterling’s services.

Backstage after winning the ROH Six Man Tag Team Championships, the Elite are all celebrating when Matt notices the members of The Dark Order peering into their room. John Silver then texts Matt and tells him that the Dark Order has now purchased Arthur Ashe Stadium with the money they’ve made off owning the Hung Bucks IP. Silver told Matt they had to “Get the duck out” of their building but then texted back to say he didn’t mean to type “duck.”

Matt convinces Hangman and his brother to leave Arthur Ashe by promising Hangman he “would do alcohol” with him at the hotel.

VIDEO: Being the Elite – ‘Penny For Your Thoughts’

Videos —

The Young Bucks and company were in Cincinnati for this week’s episode.

Last week, Matt Jackson’s own thoughts were angry with him for having messed up the Hung Bucks IP rights deal, which he sold to The Dark Order for an amount of money far lower than he thought. This week, Matt was obsessed with finding out what other members of The Elite are thinking. However, it turns none of them was thinking about anything important at all. Nick Jackson was really enthusiastically daydreaming about eating a steak and Hangman Page wondered if he could still do a cartwheel.

Footage from Brandon Cutler & Colt Cabana vs. Johnny TV & Aaron Solo was also featured on the show.

Will Washington was back on the episode this week too. Kip Sabian had no idea who he was.

The Dark Order approached Matt in the locker room and thanked him for making them rich. They bragged about all the money they’ve been spending from a sponsorship deal they signed with both Chili’s and Wendy’s. They also mentioned they bought Starbucks and renamed it to Hung Bucks Coffee. They gave Matt a sample of their new coffee but the scene ended abruptly when Silver revealed a special ingredient he put in the beverage.

VIDEO: Being the Elite – ‘Inner Thoughts’

Video —

Even Matt Jackson’s own inner thoughts are very disappointed with him.

The fallout of Matt selling the Hung Bucks IP to The Dark Order was featured this week on BTE. John Silver, Alex Reynolds, and Evil Uno introduced themselves as The Hung Backs and sang jingles for both Wendy’s and Chilli’s. After seeing this, Matt was inundated with intrusive negative thoughts about the poor decisions he’s made in recent weeks. The thoughts finally forced Matt to give himself the finger as so many others have done to him of late.

Footage of a “bonus match” Brandon Cutler had with Johnny TV at last week’s Dynamite was shown. The two had quite the dance-off at one point but ultimately it was the former John Morrison who picked up the win.

Sammy Guevara and Matt Sydal engaged in a heated debate over how to eat cereal, i.e. does the milk or the cereal go in the bowl first? Will Washington appeared and said they could settle things for the BTE Championship, which hasn’t been defended in a year. Sydal and Guevara didn’t seem to know what he was talking about.

The camera panned out to reveal BTE Champion Kip Sabian sitting at a table. Guevara and Sydal will have to beat Sabian’s stand-ins (who are also the stand-ins for The Young Bucks) to get a shot at the title. Later in the show, Guevara, Sydal, the stand-ins, and a few others competed to see who could throw Rolos in a paper cup the best.

Ryan Nemeth was featured this week as well. He was getting blood drawn in a doctor’s office and somehow got a numbing agent on his mouth.

VIDEO: Being the Elite – ‘All Out 2023’

Video —

Being the Elite this week featured footage of The Young Bucks and others in Chicago for All Out week.

The show opened up with backstage footage from before Matt & Nick Jackson made their AEW Collision debut on Saturday.

The Elite were later shown backstage following their matches from All Out. Kenny Omega was upset that he’s now lost on six straight pay-per-views. Hangman Page was upset that he had to give away the money he won in the battle royal to “stupid kids” and Matt announced he’s sold the Hung Bucks IP to Long John Silvers.

The Dark Order then interrupted. It turns out that Matt’s deal wasn’t with Long John Silvers, it was with John Silver. Also, Matt didn’t realize the currency used in the contract was Japanese Yen, so it was not nearly as lucrative as he thought. Omega then voiced his concern that he would be unable to put his cat through college.

The storyline is now that The Dark Order owns The Hung Bucks IP.

Ryan Nemeth was featured this week as well. He was shown asking fans to say that he’s their favorite wrestler at an AEW Together meet and greet. Footage from Starrcast was also shown.
