Women’s Owen Hart Tournament bracket to be revealed on AEW Rampage

Following the final women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament qualifying match on Friday’s AEW Rampage, the bracket will be revealed according to Tony Khan.

The AEW head was on Busted Open Radio Friday to promote Friday’s 5:30 PM Eastern show to reveal the news and also said the tournament would kick off Wednesday on Dynamite.

Riho will take on Yuka Sakazaki Friday with the winner joining the eight-woman field that includes Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter, Toni Storm, Ruby Soho, Red Velvet and Hikaru Shida. There will also be a wild card/joker entrant much like AEW does in their Casino Ladder and Casino Battle Royale matches.

One first round match is already known as Hayter will take on Storm in a grudge match. A tag team match with Hayter and Baker vs. Storm and Soho will be the opener for tonight’s show.

The men’s tournament kicks off Wednesday as Jeff Hardy faces Darby Allin and Dax Harwood takes on Adam Cole.

Both tournament finals will take place at this month’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

Riho vs. Yuka Sakazaki Owen Hart Tournament qualifier set for AEW Rampage

Friday’s late-afternoon edition of AEW Rampage will see the return of two popular Japanese wrestlers as Riho takes on Yuka Sakazaki in the seventh Owen Hart Tournament qualifying match.

This will be the first action of any kind for the former AEW Women’s Champion since her unsuccessful challenge of then-champion Britt Baker at January’s Battle of the Belts. She revealed in late-January that she suffered a broken right collarbone and was recovering in Japan.

This will be Sakazaki’s first AEW match since July 2021 when she won four straight before heading back to Japan. It was revealed earlier this week that she was returning to the U.S. for AEW action.

According to Cagematch records, this will be their first-ever singles meeting in any organization.

The winner will join Baker, Ruby Soho, Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, Hikaru Shida, and Red Velvet with one additional qualifying match remaining. The tournament itself begins a week from Wednesday.

Here’s the current lineup for Friday’s show which will start at 5:30 PM Eastern due to the NHL playoffs on TNT:

  • Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter vs. Toni Storm & Ruby Soho
  • Hook vs. TBA
  • Owen Hart Tournament qualifier: Riho vs. Yuka Sakazaki

Kyle O’Reilly, Britt Baker qualify for AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournaments

Kyle O’Reilly and Britt Baker have qualified for their respective AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournaments.

O’Reilly defeated Jungle Boy on tonight’s episode of Dynamite to qualify for the men’s tournament. He defeated Jungle Boy clean with a flying knee drop off the top rope. Baker, meanwhile, defeated Danielle Kamela by submission with the lockjaw.

Both the men’s and women’s tournaments begins in May and ends at Double or Nothing on May 29.

Baker was accompanied to the ring tonight by Najee Harris and Pat Freiermuth of the Pittsburgh Steelers. After she won her match, she cut a promo running down the women’s division and promised victory in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

Samoa Joe was the first to qualify for the men’s tournament on the April 6 edition of AEW Dynamite, defeating Max Caster. The next men’s tournament qualifier will take place on this Friday’s AEW Rampage, where NJPW’s Tomohiro Ishii will face Adam Cole.

In the women’s tournament, Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, Hikaru Shida, Red Velvet, and Ruby Soho have all qualified.

Hikaru Shida qualifies for Owen Hart Foundation tournament on AEW Dynamite

Hikaru Shida has qualified for the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

Shida defeated Julia Hart to qualify. Hart played heel, choking Shida with her varsity jacket. The Varisty Blonds at ringside tried to calm her down, but Hart sent them to the back. Shida eventually won with the falcon arrow.

After the match, Serena Deeb’s music played. Shida caught Deeb before she could attack Shida from behind with a steel chair. The two stared down one another, a signal that their feud is still ongoing.

The first qualifying matches for the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament began last week on Dynamite, when Toni Storm made her debut for the promotion by defeating The Bunny. On Rampage last Friday, Jamie Hayter defeated Skye Blue to advance. Storm and Hayter had a confrontation on tonight’s Dynamite, with Hayter refusing to shake Storm’s hand.

Both the men’s and women’s tournaments will begin in May, with the finals taking place at Double or Nothing on May 29 in Las Vegas.
