The final AEW show of 2025 and the fallout edition from last weekend’s Worlds End has arrived with tonight’s live New Year’s Smash edition of AEW Dynamite from Omaha, Nebraska.

After regaining the AEW World title after a two-year break, MJF will appear to address his title win and what’s next for him.

Following a tag team match at the Zero Hour pre-show at Worlds End, AEW National Champion Ricochet will defend against “Jungle” Jack Perry.

After she was pinned in the AEW Women’s Tag Team title match Saturday, TBS Champion Mercedes Mone will put up the title against Willow Nightingale in an attempt to get revenge.

New AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley will face Josh Alexander in a title eliminator.

Our live coverage kicks off at 8 pm Eastern.

AEW Dynamite: New Year’s Smash comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone as they run down the card before we go to a highlight video of this past weekend’s Worlds End PPV ending with the visual of MJF holding the AEW World Title high in the air. We go backstage to a car pulling up and MJF, rocking a fur coat, steps out with a huge smile on his face. His coat is taken off at the door by a woman (fairly certain indy wrestler Izzy B) and he walks right to the ring to pyro, red carpet in the ring and a title covered up.

MJF’s Title Celebration Presents Challengers Aplenty

MJF said Swerve Strickland is the franchise, Samoa Joe is the Samoan Submission Machine, Hangman Page is the main character, that’s cute, he’s MJF, the World Champion. F the Big 3, it’s just me (he tosses the AEW World Title to the floor) and the Triple B. MJF uncovers his Big Burberry Belt and tells the fans to settle down, daddy has the mic. Fans said MJF were supposed to take it easy on their favorites, but if you’re dumb enough to think you’re on the level of the Devil, you either step up or get stepped on. MJF is a stallion, done slow trotting around so the donkeys in the back can keep up. From now on, it’s a sprint and no one is going to catch him, as he’ll go down the greatest of all time. His name is Maxwell Jacob Friedman, I’m better than you and you know it.

Kenny Omega appears on the big screen from his home saying he’s sorry to interrupt. Omega said MJF made him feel like the old Kenny Omega is reaching the end of his career more than the beginning, which is a stone he hates leaving unturned. What if, he can become AEW World Champion once again? What if they meet in the ring today? It wouldn’t be MJF vs. The Cleaner, Best Bout Machine or Belt Collector. Omega isn’t collecting belts; he’s going for one. Whether it’s next week or he has to claw his way to a title shot, MJF is going to be seeing a lot more of Omega, who must bid you adieu, goodbye and goodnight…bang!

MJF said the dumb schmuck fans chant his name, but Omega wasn’t man enough to come out and say it to his face. Hangman Adam Page & Swerve Strickland’s music hit respectively and they’re shown in different areas of the fans. They head to ringside, but are held back by security. MJF told them to relax, he’s a professional wrestler, who believes wins and losses matter, meaning they’re both losers. If you start winning matches, talk to Tony Khan and he’ll whip both their asses like he did at Worlds End. MJF quickly scurried away as Page & Strickland broke free and beat the hell out of the security, using the chain before hitting a double powerbomb and assisted Buckshot into a House Call.

Page took the mic and said when he gets ahold of MJF, he’s going to strangle him with his ugly ass belt. Strickland said MJF better pray Page gets to him before he does, the hunt is on and may the worst men win. Samoa Joe & The Opps are on the big screen saying they deserve nothing, Joe deserves to be the #1 Contender. He has the answer for the obstacles in his way, Page & Strickland had the audacity to put their hands on HOOK, the greatest second-generation wrestler in history and he’s ordered HOOK to choke them out on sight. Hobbs is coming for Strickland, while HOOK is targeting Page, next week. Page said it’s new year, same dumbass and begs Joe to send him HOOK. Strickland said No Holds Barred Lights Out next week.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with The Conglomeration & Roderick Strong. Mark Briscoe said they’re rolling heading into 2026 and after tonight, they’ll have the TBS Title with Willow Nightingale winning it from Mercedes Mone. Briscoe wouldn’t be surprised if Ted Turner wants to conglomerate. The Word of the Day is asphyxiation as just like Worlds End, the Death Riders will be choking on deez nuts. Timeless Toni Storm saunters in and Cassidy kisses her hand, until Mina Shirakawa comes in upset, telling Cassidy to keep his hands out of his pockets. Storm reminds her this isn’t sexual, as she had Luther hand her an orange, which she takes a bite out of and strolls off, with Briscoe following them, asking for a bite. Strong yells Renee’s name and said he wants no part of this and walks off.

Timeless Toni Storm, Orange Cassidy & Roderick Strong vs. Death Riders (CMLL Champion Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia & Marina Shafir) in a New Year’s Eve Tornado Trios Match

(This was another round of Mixed Nuts Mayhem from the PPV, this time with the heels getting their win back. Lots of different stories could branch off from this and I’m genuinely interested in seeing where they go. These past two matches have been a lot of fun, as they’ve done the intergender work really well.)

Brawl right at the bell, as Storm hit a Thesz Press on Shafir and shotgun dropkick to follow, as the men brawl around ringside. Ten corner punches by Storm, who poses, but was sent outside by Castagnoli. Strong lit up Castagnoli with chops and a perfect dropkick before unleashing ten corner punches of his own. Garcia tackles Strong to the corner and gets in nine punches before mocking the crowd. Cassidy takes Garcia to the corner, winds up and hits one punch to a huge reaction until Shafir applies a Full Nelson. Hands in the pockets for Cassidy, who slid out into a roll-up on Shafir for two, who pops up and hits a strike, allowing Garcia to deliver a release German. Cassidy ate the locomotion corner strikes into a double big boot like what happened at Worlds End as things go to commercial.

Back from break, all three Death Riders were working over Strong in the corner, as Garcia & Castagnoli held Shafir for some chops, he broke free, teased a backbreaker, but she was saved and hit a Judo Throw on Strong. Dodging a corner charge, Strong dropped Castagnoli with a dive outside, as Storm & Cassidy side-stepped a charging Garcia & Shafir and wound up in a tango position, spinning each other into strikes on the Death Riders until Castagnoli ran into a double hip toss. Storm signaled for the Giant Swing, but Garcia booted her in the face. Cassidy flew in with Orange Punch, but turned into Mother’s Milk from Shafir. Strong pulled her off and dropped Shafir with a backbreaker. Castagnoli laid out Strong, rolled through a top rope cross body from Cassidy, who countered into Stundog Millionaire. Sweet Cheek Music from Storm, spinning DDT by Cassidy as Castagnoli took the official. The distraction allowed Wheeler Yuta to hang up Cassidy on the top rope, leading to a massive uppercut from Castagnoli, who got the pin.

Death Riders celebrated ringside, as Shafir flipped off their opponents with Castagnoli staring down Storm, who was checking on Cassidy. Mina Shirakawa & Luther came in and tried to turn Storm’s attention away, as Strong slowly offered a hand to help Cassidy up.

Match Result: Death Riders defeated Timeless Toni Storm, Orange Cassidy & Roderick Strong when Castagnoli pinned Cassidy

-Video package on Ultimo Mone’s title victories over the course of the last year. Every era Mercedes Mone enter gets defined and promotion she wrestles in gets elevated. No longer chasing history, Mone is the history, the blueprint, the ceiling. AEW is where she showed the world who she is, she’s not just money, she’s the CEO of women’s wrestling, the greatest TBS Champion of all time.

ROH World Champion Bandido vs. ROH Tag Team Champion The Beast Mortos

(Very good showcase for Bandido ahead of his World Title match on Dynamite in a few weeks. Mortos is always a great opponent and I wish we got to see him more consistently on AEW programming, especially Dynamite. While he doesn’t have many wins, he’s one of the most consistently entertaining guys on the roster.)

We’re immediately reminded that Bandido will be facing MJF for the AEW World Title in 2 weeks at Maximum Carnage. Both men show off their athleticism early, with Mortos swiping away at a handshake. Bandido used his entrance cape to play bull fighter, as Mortos misses charges, but not the headbutt to put a stop to the shenanigans. Mortos stomps on the cape and connects with a Tornillo through the ropes outside. Back inside, both trade up/overs, arm drags and pin attempts before we get a stalemate. Bandido dodged a corner charge, sending Mortos outside, giving Bandido a chance to put his cape on and hit a huge cross body off the top into break.

Mortos gained control during commercial and played to the crowd, allowing Bandido to get a flash roll-up for two. Deja-Deja-Vu from Bandido left Mortos reeling, as he ate a thrust kick, allowing Bandido to head up top for a big Frog Splash. Mortos answered with his running Crucifix Bomb and pop-up Samoan Drop for two. Bandido slides out of a fireman’s carry, looks for X-Knee, but couldn’t get the big man up, allowing Mortos to hit a Torture Rack backbreaker and discus lariat for a close near fall. Another lariat turned Bandido inside out, as Mortos went for a corkscrew Moonsault, but missed. Bandido threw a pump kick and somehow managed to get Mortos up into X-Knee and 21-Plex for the win.

Match Result: Bandido defeated The Beast Mortos

**********

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Brodido and asks if this win against Mortos gives Bandido the momentum heading into Maximum Carnage. After a fired-up promo in Spanish by Bandido, Brody King said Bandido is the Most Wanted, everyone is gunning for him and in 2 weeks, he’ll have an even bigger target. Once Bandido wins the AEW World Title and becomes Bandido 2-Belts again, King is getting the first shot. Until then, King has some business to handle.

Brody King vs. Lee Johnson

Johnson flew over the top with a dive during King’s entrance and that only pissed off King, who demolished Johnson with chops and being chucked into the barricade. Inside the ring, the match officially begins, as Johnson got up boots in the corner, hit a thrust kick, charged, only to be turned inside out with a massive King lariat. Crowd starts barking, as a huge cannonball in the corner led to the Gonzo Bomb for the quick win.

Match Result: Brody King defeated Lee Johnson

-Video of Darby Allin talking about going to hell with Gabe Kidd at Worlds End. He’s not numb to the pain, he’s more aware of it than anyone, knowing what it gives him. He wishes he could relay the beauty that pain gives him. In 2025, he stood atop of Mount Everest, in 2026, he wants to stand atop of AEW, but not before he can defeat all the Death Riders, which he’s done, except one, PAC. He doesn’t know when or where, but he needs to get that win.

Continental Champion Jon Moxley vs. Josh Alexander in a Continental Title Eliminator Match

(It feels like not that long ago Moxley was trying to drown Darby Allin on PPV, now the AEW crowd loves him. This C2 has done such a great job in building Moxley as a babyface, even though the rest of his crew are still heels. These past few months of him tapping out make the fans heavily invested in his matches that much more, as regardless the opponent, when he’s trapped in a submission, they’re biting. Alexander was an excellent first opponent in this reign for Moxley, who, as we saw in the post-match, will be having plenty of Eliminator matches during this run, one that will thankfully have no interference.)

Don Callis gave last minute instructions to Alexander before going backstage (no one allowed ringside), as we’re told with Continental Rules, if the match goes to a 20-minute time limit, that’s just as good as win for Alexander, as he’d earn a title shot. Renee Paquette is ringside and said 2026 is Death Riders vs. The World, but recently it feels like Death Riders vs. Don Callis Family and Alexander told her earlier that he’s bringing the title home to The Family. As Moxley came over the barricade to ringside, he was wincing big time, selling the bad leg from Worlds End. Alexander attacked at the bell and wrenches at the mouth of Moxley, as we’re reminded of the broken tooth suffered at the PPV. Chop battle ensues, which only amps up Moxley, who switched to punches. Alexander shot a single leg after being flipped off and targeted the bad wheel. Moxley went to the eyes until he was backdropped over the top to the floor, leaving him clutching his leg.

It was all Alexander during break, but when things returned, Moxley scurried into a Rear Naked Choke briefly, but Alexander slid out into an Ankle Lock. Moxley really teases a tap, but makes the ropes, rolling to the apron. Alexander out with him, as they trade suplex and piledriver attempts until Alexander slipped behind, chopped the back and leads to a strike exchange until Moxley’s leg got kicked out and Alexander hit a Strongest Slam on the apron at the 10-minute call. Back inside, Alexander missed a moonsault, as Moxley missed Paradigm Shift, so we got more trading of strikes that again saw Alexander dropkick out the leg. Moxley fired off a desperation Cutter for two, then sank in a Bulldog Choke, which Alexander countered into a back suplex. Moxley popped up and delivered a backdrop driver of his own, as he turned Alexander inside out with a lariat into the double down.

The crowd are loudly behind Moxley, who hits an Elbow Suicida, working through the pain of the bad leg. Alexander swept the leg out on the opposite side of the ring and posted the leg before sinking in the Figure Four on the post. Alexander had to let it go, as he hit a huge diving knee drop to the leg back inside. While wrenching the ankle, Moxley raked the eyes and pulled Alexander into a choke before firing off Anvil elbows, knocking Alexander’s head gear off, as a Rear Naked Choke was applied and Alexander passed out.

Post-match, MVP & Shelton Benjamin walk to the entrance aisle and stare down Moxley, as we’re reminded how close Benjamin was to advancing to the C2 Semis last year. Moxley briefly stares back before hobbling over the barricade through the crowd.

Match Result: Jon Moxley defeated Josh Alexander

-Triangle of Madness are backstage talking about Sisters of Sin winning at Worlds End. Thekla said Kris Statlander spat in her friends face at the PPV and loved it. She’s not buying Statlander’s cosmic act and tells them to let her take her place, they’ll make the title real toxic.

**********

Ricochet (w/G.O.A.) vs. Jungle Jack Perry (w/Luchasaurus) for the AEW National Title

(While I liked the match, the constant interference hampered this and didn’t let it reach another gear. The post-match is the bigger story, as, similar to Worlds End, Luchasaurus didn’t do much of anything and I had figured he was legit injured prior to the show. This felt like an angle to write him off for a while, which is unfortunate, as it doesn’t feel like Jurassic Express have been back as a team all that long. It does look like Perry might be riding solo again.)

Toa Liona & Luchasaurus had an early face-off ringside, as a fast series opened things in the ring, with Ricochet pulling Perry down by his hair. Perry tried to return the favor, but it obviously didn’t work due to the baldness, so Perry pulled on the beard, sent Ricochet outside and connected on a dive. Bishop Kaun tripped up Perry, allowing Luchasuaurus to go at him but Liona attacked from behind. The distraction gave Ricochet a chance to send Perry outside and hit a dive, posing with The Demand heading to break.

Ricochet controlled during commercial, but Perry connected on a flying elbow. We’re told Liona attacked Luchasaurus and took him backstage, similar to what happened during Zero Hour Worlds End last weekend. Perry vaulted over Ricochet in the corner and hit a suplex, leading to a leaping DDT attempt, which was countered into the Northern Lights and suplex into a standing Shooting Star for a Ricochet near fall. Ricochet wanted Vertigo, Perry floated over, O’Connor Roll got two, series of switches led to the Perry comeback lariat for a close near fall of his own. Perry signaled for the Sacrifice Knee, but Ricochet rolled to the apron, hanging Perry up on the top. Ricochet was backdropped to the floor, giving Perry a chance to hit a baseball slide cazadora bulldog. Perry hopped a charging Kaun, threw a thrust kick, but the delay allowed Ricochet to crotch Perry in the corner. Perry fought free, Ricochet backflipped out, but ate a diving Perry DDT for two. Perry signaled for the Sacrifice Knee, Ricochet took the ref, allowing Kaun to trip up Perry, giving Ricochet a chance to hit the Spirit Gun for the win.

Post-match, Liona carried Luchasaurus back out to the stage and continuously slammed a guard rail onto him. Placing it over his arm, Kaun delivered repeated chair shots to it, as Ricochet hit another Spirit Gun on Perry as The Demand stood over Luchasaurus. Liona & Kaun laid out security guards, slamming them onto the railing and Luchasaurus’ arm.

Match Result: Ricochet defeated Jungle Jack Perry to retain the AEW National Title

-Death Riders are backstage and Moxley said Shelton Benjamin and the people who hurt people, you don’t have to come out to look at him like he feels some kind of way, he’s easy to find. They’re setting the standard, masters of the craft, as Wheeler Yuta said Darby Allin had revisionist history, as if he wants to get to PAC, you go through him. Garcia said it doesn’t matter who you are, it’s Death Riders vs. The World in 2026.

-Harley Cameron is helping Willow Nightingale train and said this is the last match of 2025. Nightingale said it’s been 584 days since she lost the TBS Title and her opportunity to regain her title is finally here, she’s ending the year with a bang.

**********

-Renee Paquette is backstage with MJF, asking what he feels to have all these contenders locked in on his AEW World Title. MJF said Paquette is silly, he’s about to make his first title reign look short in comparison. Brodido walks in and Brody King says Bandido will make that Triple B, Bandido’s Big Belt. They do their handshake and leave, which MJF said was cute and asked what Paquette was smiling about?

Mercedes Mone vs. AEW Women’s Tag Team Champion Willow Nightingale for the TBS Title

(Hell of a match to close the year for AEW, as I thought this turned into a PPV caliber main event. The downfall of Mone continues, as the crowd went absolutely nuts for a new champ and also the final shot of the female champs in the company celebrating was a nice touch to cap off 2025.)

Not as many extras holding up Mone’s titles as they once did, as commentary talk about how furious Mone has been due to recent losses. Mone pie-faces Nightingale pre-match, as Justin Roberts does big fight introductions. Bell sounds and Mone immediately hit a series of low dropkicks, sending Nightingale outside, smashing her into the LED board, forcing it to go out. Mone opted for her CEO dance and that delay allowed Nightingale to dodge a Meteora into the barricade and launched Mone into the railing with a Pounce and two count back inside.

Both ladies trade roll-ups until Mone tried Mone Maker, but Nightingale countered into a backslide for two, maintained wrist control, took Mone’s head off with a lariat for another near fall. Mone tried to fight back, missed cazadora, floated over, sending Nightingale to the corner and flipping off all the fans chanting her opponent’s name. Nightingale cartwheeled out of the corner, hit an overhand chop and shotgun dropkick off the middle rope. Big time cannonball in the corner, as Mone rolled outside, where Nightingale met her with another cannonball off the apron. Mone was returned to the ring, where she quickly dropkicked Nightingale’s legs out on the apron and followed with a Meteroa against the steps, controlling the action into commercial.

Back from break, Nightingale carried Mone out of the corner into a press slam into the double down. Series of lariats ramped up by Nightingale, who tried a Spinebuster, Mone escaped, charged, only to be launched with another Pounce. Death Valley Driver connected, but Mone kicked out at two. Backstabber staggers Nightingale, as Mone again charged, but ran into a Doctor Bomb by Nightingale, but Mone got the foot on the ropes. Nightingale went up top, but missed a big moonsault, giving Mone a chance to try a Frog Splash, but Nightingale got her knees up. They go to the apron, where Nightingale connected with a DVD right on the edge of the ring. Nightingale thew a lifeless Mone into the ring, where Mone again rolled to the outside. Nightingale went for another cannonball from the apron, only this time, no one was home and Nightingale went splat.

Mone hit two of the Three Amigos on the floor, all while ref Aubrey was counting, as Nightingale fought off a third, slamming Mone into the apron, breaking the count and clearing the commentary table. Nightingale brought Mone up onto it, as Mone begged off, as Nightingale wanted a Doctor Bomb, Mone got free and hit a third suplex on the table, which didn’t break. Aubrey puts the count on both, as Nightingale just broke it at nine. Both trade pin attempts, Anvil elbows from Mone, who switches to the Statement Maker. Nightingale powers to her feet, Mone tries Mone Maker, but is smashed into the corner repeatedly. Nightingale tried a Doctor Bomb, Mone tried Mone Maker, Nightingale got a roll-up for a close two. Both ladies up, Mone with a jackknife pin, Nightingale rolled through, hit the Doctor Bomb in the middle of the ring and got the win and the title.

Post-match, purple confetti pours down, as Harley Cameron runs out to celebrate, leaving Mone stunned. Orange Cassidy & JetSpeed come down and give Nightingale hugs, until Kris Statlander is shown in the ring. Crowd chant Hug It Out, as they hug and the camera zooms out, with Excalibur saying you’ve got to give the people what they want. Cassidy & JetSpeed roll outside, leading Nightingale, Statlander & Cameron celebrating in the ring to close 2025 for AEW.

Match Result: Willow Nightingale defeated Mercedes Mone to win the TBS Title

AEW reveals location for special New Year’s Eve Dynamite

On New Year’s Eve, AEW will be in Nebraska for its final event of 2025.

It was announced today that Liberty First Credit Union Arena in the Omaha area will host the Wednesday, December 31, 2025 edition of AEW Dynamite. It’s being branded as a special New Year’s Smash edition of the show — which is the usual theme for the last Dynamite of the year.

The general public on-sale date for tickets is next Monday (November 3).

Hangman Page, Kris Statlander, and Darby Allin are featured on AEW’s graphic promoting the show.

New Year’s Smash will be the Worlds End fallout episode of Dynamite, with that pay-per-view set to be held at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on Saturday, December 27.

This marks AEW’s second-ever event at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. The promotion made its Nebraska debut earlier this year with the venue hosting a March episode of Dynamite, along with two one-hour Slam Dunk Collision specials that were filmed there that same night.

With this show now announced, AEW will begin rolling out its dates for January 2026 soon. A February visit to Australia is already confirmed for early next year. There will be two shows on that Australia trip: Grand Slam Australia 2026 and a House Rules live event.

AEW Dynamite live results: New Year’s Smash

Tonight’s AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash is the go-home show for Saturday’s Worlds End pay-per-view.

The Continental Classic Gold League finals are set for the show, with Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland, and Jay White squaring off in a three-way to decide who will represent Gold League in the tournament finals at Worlds End.

The Continental Classic Blue League finals are also set for the show, with Bryan Danielson taking on Eddie Kingston with a spot in the tournament finals at stake.

Worlds End opponents MJF & Samoa Joe must team up on tonight’s show as they defend the ROH Tag Team Championship against two of The Devil’s masked henchmen. MJF will defend the AEW World Championship against Joe at Worlds End.

Renee Paquette will interview Mariah May on tonight’s episode. May has been trying to align herself with Women’s World Champion Toni Storm ahead of Storm’s Worlds End title defense against Riho.

A Keith Lee appearance has also been advertised for the show.

AEW Dynamite: New Year’s Smash comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone and Taz as we go right to entrances for our opening contest.

Jon Moxley defeated Swerve Strickland & Switchblade Jay White in the Continental Classic Gold League Finals

(A hell of a way to end the Gold League, as these three delivered a PPV caliber battle in this one. White used the no DQ in regards to it being a three way to his advantage, but it wasn’t meant to be, as Moxley was able to get his win back and revenge from last week. This was also a smart finish to keep Strickland from taking a pin or submission loss.)

White was dispatched early, which allowed Strickland & Moxley to deck each other with strikes before Moxley was dumped outside as well. Moxley sent both Strickland & White into the crowd, where White was crotched on a guard rail. Strickland set up Moxley on a chair, got a running start and connected with a pump knee. The brawl continued up the steps before going back to ringside where White chop blocked the leg of Moxley that was softened up last week. With Moxley down on the floor, White zoned in on Strickland in the ring with multiple near falls. White went after Moxley once more, which allowed Strickland to try a dive, but White side stepped, only to eat a sliding knee on the apron by Strickland. The pace quickened when Strickland & Moxley were in the ring, as Strickland bit the middle finger being flipped at him by Moxley and followed with a lariat. White tried to pull Strickland to the floor, but got caught and had the fingers stomped on before Moxley was sent outside onto White. This led to Strickland connecting on a High Fly Flow cross body on both men into picture in picture.

Moxley flew in with a tope on Strickland when things returned, as back inside a stiff corner lariat, punches and biting at the head led to a stalling piledriver for two. Anvil elbows by Moxley with a transition to a key lock, which Strickland escaped into the corner, went up top, but dove right into a Paradigm Shift for two. Moxley cleared off the ring attendant table as White appeared with a chair shot to the back, as No DQ’s due to this being triple threat, as White cracked Moxley in the bad leg as well. Back inside, Strickland got a wildly close pin attempt before a striking battle ensued. Strickland kicked out the leg and connected on the House Call, which led to the powerbomb transition into the powerslam. Top rope 450 Splash connected, but Moxley flew in to break up the count before our second commercial break.

A three way slugfest welcomed us back from break before White laid out Strickland with a half and half until Moxley applied a rear naked choke on White. Once more, Strickland flew in with a House Call to break it up, but Moxley leveled him with a lariat, only to turn into Blade Runner for two in a great sequence. White again went to the chair and laid out both men before wedging the chair in the corner. To the surprise of no one, Strickland turned the table and sent White crashing into the chair. Strickland nearly stole the win off Moxley the same way Moxley won a few weeks ago, with a handful of trunks, but got two. Two big boots and discus lariat dropped Moxley, who fought off the JML Driver, but as Strickland went to the top for the Swerve Stomp, White sent him crashing to the floor. Moxley nearly beheaded White with a lariat and hit the Death Rider to get the win.

**********

-Tony Schiavone is backstage with Swerve Strickland & Prince Nana, who is frustrated following the loss. Strickland said he wanted this so badly, as the Continental Classic was breathing life back into the wrestling business. Strickland brings up Keith Lee wanting to pay him a visit tonight and said he’s not busy on Saturday. Schiavone said Lee is there tonight, but in case he missed Strickland, there was a contract for him for a match at World’s End. Nana was furious this didn’t get his approval and Strickland calmed him down saying they’ll see if Lee shows up on Saturday. The match graphic is shown and I guess this match is official, even though Strickland never signed the contract. Also, Schiavone said Lee was there tonight, why couldn’t he just give Strickland the contract himself? Regardless, we’re most likely getting this match, one year in the making, this Saturday.

-Renee Paquette is on stage and welcomes Mariah May, asking her why she attacked Riho last week? May said she did so to support Toni Storm, which we all should be doing. May felt 2023 didn’t have enough Glamour, so the first Dynamite of 2024 will be her in ring debut. 2024 will be the year of Mariah, which got a few boos from the otherwise quiet crowd. Riho’s music hit, as the chase to the ring was on, as May begged off as Toni Storm ran to the ring and tried to attack with her AEW Women’s Title, but Riho dodged. Luther saved Storm from a Tiger Feint Kick, as Riho dropped them both with a cross body to the floor as May checked on Storm, who was distraught as being upstaged.

-Top Flight & Action Andretti are backstage and said they aren’t taking their loss to The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass to heart, but want to keep going. Before they could make their open challenge, Orange Cassidy saunters in with Trent Beretta & Rocky Romero and accepts the match for Rampage. Romero said don’t worry about Cassidy; he did the same thing to him last week. Andretti said they’ll be ready and randomly drank quickly a bottle of water for hydration. We got the Taz giggle on commentary as a result.

**********

-A video package for Miro was shown saying only once the Continental Classic was finished would he seek to fight Andrade. Miro doesn’t want to fight Andrade because he’s a client of his wife; he wants to fight because Andrade is an A-hole. The match will be happening at World’s End.

The Don Callis Family Boxing Week Celebration

Tony Schiavone introduces Don Callis, Konosuke Takeshita, Powerhouse Hobbs & Kyle Fletcher to the ring. Callis said there’s been a lot of stuff going on outside of wrestling for him the last two weeks, which has been very difficult. Callis couldn’t have gotten through it without his Family, so to honor them, he got them all portraits. All of these were hilarious, with the Hobbs portrait having Callis throwing up a West side sign and the one with Fletcher was of them boxing kangaroos. There was a fourth portrait we didn’t see, as Sammy Guevara’s music hit and Callis was caught off guard by the return. Guevara cut off Callis and said long time no talk, as Callis asked if Guevara got his gift for his newborn? Callis revealed the fourth portrait was of the entire Family with Guevara holding his child in the middle. Guevara was upset and asked who the hell told Callis to put his baby in the picture? Callis said Guevara wasn’t mentally capable of being a parent, so they’re there for him. Guevara said Callis is making things about himself and never heard from Callis when he was out with a concussion.

Callis said he was disappointed Guevara dropped the ball, got hurt and left for five months to have babies. Callis put out the ultimatum to choose his other family or the Don Callis Family. If Guevara picks the wrong choice, he’ll be remembered as big of a disappointment as a wrestler as he will be as a parent. Guevara shoved down Callis before Hobbs and crew attacked Guevara from behind. Chris Jericho made the save with his baseball bat and smashed all the portraits but one, as Jericho handed off the bat to Guervara, who smashed his painting. Jericho & Guevara slowly teased shaking hands, but hugged before Big Bill & Ricky Starks appeared and attacked both men. The lights went out and Sting & Darby Allin showed up to make the save and drop the Tag Team champs with baseball bat shots. Sting, Allin, Guevara & Jericho all stared each other down. Jericho needed a partner now that Kenny Omega will be out for an extended time, so ending the Guevara heel run makes sense in this regard, even though I wish it went longer.

-Roderick Strong & The Kingdom are in the back showing off their bulletin board of who is and isn’t The Devil. All signs pointed to MJF as The Devil and Strong promises to expose Max. This board gave off Charlie from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia vibes with his Pepe Silvia scene.

Eddie Kingston defeated Bryan Danielson in the Continental Classic Blue League Finals

(The match these two had a few weeks ago was fantastic and I thought this was even better. The story they told of Danielson wanting Kingston to quit like he always does, just had the fans behind Kingston even more than before. The heart and drive of Kingston led him to defeated Danielson for the first time in his career. The post match back and forth was just excellent stuff between Moxley & Kingston.)

The crowd is loudly behind Kingston here and Danielson knows it, as Kingston connected on a Saito suplex and huge tope to the floor to follow. Loud chops around ringside from Kingston before heading back in the ring where Danielson got his revenge with chops of his own. Kingston exploded out of the corner with a double hand chop before going to the apron where Danielson punted out the leg and hit a DDT on the edge of the ring, followed by a flying knee on the floor.

Danielson controlled the entire break and dodged a Kingston comeback that led to trash talk, saying Kingston is just going to ultimately quit like always. The insults and kicks fired Kingston up, as Danielson was planted with an Exploder to give Kingston hope. Danielson countered a back fist, but Kingston countered a LeBell Lock into a DDT for the double down. Machine gun chops from Kingston, as Danielson spat at Kingston during the onslaught, which resulted in just more chops. Danielson countered another Exploder and sank in the LeBell Lock, but Kingston got the ropes. Both men fought up in the ropes, where Kingston found himself trapped in the Tree of Woe, as Danielson hit a running dropkick. To the ropes they went again, this time with Danielson hitting anvil elbows, but Kingston spun out of a back superplex, landing on Danielson’s face for the double down into commercial.

We come back to a chop battle until Danielson changed levels and put in kicks, but Kingston fired back with more super loud chops. Danielson’s chest is beat red, but still managed to block a chop into a bridging suplex for two. During the Yes kicks, Kingston spat at Danielson, avoided the corner dropkick and turned Danielson inside out with a lariat followed by a Northern Lights Bomb for two. Both traded pin attempts and home run shots, as Danielson connected with the Busaiku Knee, but Kingston barely kicked out. The facial expressions of Kingston when he ate a series of anvil elbows were a master class, as Danielson opted to kick in Kingston’s head and demanded referee Bryce stop it, but Kingston lifted one finger to flip off Danielson. Wanting the final shot, Danielson charged for another Busaiku Knee, but ran right into a backfist and half and half suplex. Another wild backfist led to a Kawada powerbomb high stack to give Kingston the pinfall win.

Post match, Jon Moxley came to the ring to check on Danielson before Kingston stared down his best friend. Moxley took the microphone and said all he’s ever asked from Kingston was 100% his best. For someone who thinks the whole world hates him, Kingston sure has a lot of people behind him. AEW fans love Eddie Kingston and they deserve his very best. The problem is, Moxley knows Kingston better than he knows himself and knows Kingston can’t beat him. Moxley said he’s done favors for Kingston in the past, but if Kingston wants the Triple Crown, he’s going to have to earn it.

Kingston said Moxley talked enough and said not to treat him like his young boy bitch, Wheeler Yuta. Kingston reminded Moxley he broke in before him. Kingston the King of the Bums is going to push Moxley on Saturday. Kingston reminded that Moxley said the company needs people like Kingston around to shape the younger guys. Kingston said Moxley needs to show his fighting spirit and he’s going to bust Moxley up and enjoy it before saying that was his out line.

Lexy Nair is backstage with Christian Cage and Nick & Shayna Wayne, as Cage was furious that he was sitting here all night waiting for Adam Copeland, who ran in and attacked Nick Wayne and started brawling with Cage before security showed up. Copeland had no problem going through them, as the brawl with Cage spilled into the hall and other wrestlers had to separate the two, with Copeland breaking free from the group to get in a few more shots. Copeland yelled that Cage is his, with Cage saying Copeland was a coward.

Skye Blue defeated Kris Statlander

(This turned into a pretty solid match, with Blue picking up the biggest win in her AEW career as a result. The seeds are being planted by Hathaway for dissention between Statlander & Willow and I need more Stokely on commentary, his banter with Taz was hilarious.)

Stokely Hathaway joined commentary for this match, as Excalibur said Hathaway is trying to drive a wedge between Statlander & Willow Nightingale, as Hathaway was insulted at such an accusation. Statlander got an early takedown and no sold a shot from behind by Blue, who was rag dolled with multiple bodyslams. Blue tried a head scissors, but Statlander cart wheeled out and hit a dropkick for two. A delayed vertical suplex from Statlander, as Hathaway talked about the toughness of Statlander coming back from injuries while his cousin, Leon, works at Auto Zone, twisted his ankle and has been out for five years.

Blue gained control right before picture in picture until Statlander fired back with a series of clotheslines. Statlander connected with a Chaos Theory for two, but Blue answered with a Code Blue for a two count of her own. Blue wanted a second rope hurricanrana, but Statlander countered into a powerbomb. While going back and forth on commentary with Taz, I should point out Hathaway made a Tevin Campbell reference. Blue & Statlander fought in the corner, where Blue slid out of a superplex attempt and took the ref. This allowed Julia Hart to appear from under the ring and deck Statlander with the TBS Title. Blue connected on a Cheeky Nandos kick, followed by an Avalanche Code Blue for the victory.

Post match, Blue kept attacking Statlander with Hart delivering a sliding clothesline to the neck. Blue slapped on a Dragon Sleeper before Willow Nightingale ran to the ring and cleaned house. As Hart & Blue retreated, Abadon appeared on the stage and the duo high-tailed it.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Ruby Soho & Saraya, who interrupted to tell her she has a birthday present for Soho. Harley Cameron walked in and Saraya said she’s a good little helper who will do anything; she’s good with her hands. Soho said so she hears before getting a phone call from Angelo Parker. Soho walks off and Paquette asked how this partnership with Saraya & Cameron happened as Cameron brought out a butcher knife and Saraya had to calm her down. What an odd turn that took to end the segment.

The Devil’s Henchmen defeated MJF for the ROH Tag Team Titles

(While I’m not a fan of your World Champion taking a pin right before the PPV, at least we finally have those ROH Tag Titles off MJF. This was all storyline, as the match started at the top of the hour. The reveal that Joe has been in cahoots with The Devil was a nice little swerve before the main event this Saturday. I do think we still need a Devil reveal at World’s End, hopefully the reveal delivers.)

The two henchmen came in through the crowd and MJF walked out first, but Samoa Joe was shown screaming in pain backstage, clutching his leg. MJF told referee Bryce he’s doing this on his own, as his shoulder is heavily bandaged up. MJF rushed one of the henchmen at the bell and tried to unmask the man, but was hung up by the other, who was ultimately back dropped to the floor. MJF tried to unmask the man, but the ref was distracted by henchman 1, allowing a third henchmen to attack MJF with a pipe ringside. Back inside, MJF was dropped with the Heatseeker and pinned.

Post match, all three henchmen attacked MJF when Samoa Joe hobbled to the ring with a chair with the henchmen bailing. As Joe helped up MJF, The Devil appeared on the big screen with the words Pleasure Doing Business With You shown. Joe then laid out MJF with the chair, revealing he wasn’t injured and he’s been working with The Devil. Joe told MJF he did this to him and laid out MJF with the Muscle Buster, holding the AEW World Title high with his boot on MJF to end the show.

TNT title match set for AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash

A TNT Championship match has been announced for the December 28 AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash episode.

In a bout set up on this week’s Rampage, Samoa Joe is set to defend the TNT Championship against former title holder Wardlow on December 28 in Broomfield, Colorado.

After making quick work of Exodus Prime on Rampage, Wardlow called out Samoa Joe. Joe answered with a promo from backstage. He stated that he would not defend the TNT title in Texas, the site of the December 21 and December 23 AEW Holiday Bash episodes, but would put the belt on the line against Wardlow on the 28th. The match was officially announced later in Friday’s program.

Joe defeated Powerhouse Hobbs and Wardlow in a triple threat match at Full Gear on November 19 to win the TNT title, submitting Hobbs to win the Championship. Joe also currently holds the ROH World Television Championship.

AEW Dynamite video highlights: Allin vs. Cage TNT title match

Darby Allin made his first defense of the TNT Championship last night, defeating Brian Cage in the main event of AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash night two.

Allin hit a Coffin Drop on the ring steps, then used an assist from Sting in eliminating an interfering Ricky Starks to beat Cage with a crucifix bomb to retain the TNT title.

In the evening’s other title bout, Serena Deeb defeated a game Tay Conti to retain the NWA World Women’s Championship.

Cody Rhodes appeared on The Waiting Room with Dr. Britt Baker, but before Rhodes could speak, Jade Cargill made her return to Dynamite, threatened Brandi Rhodes, then brawled with Red Velvet.

The Good Brothers made their AEW in-ring debut, teaming with AEW World Champion Kenny Omega in a winning effort against Griff Garrison, Brian Pillman Jr. & Danny Limelight.

In other action, Miro defeated Chuck Taylor, meaning Taylor must serve as Miro’s butler until Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford’s wedding, FTR defeated Jurassic Express, and PAC defeated Eddie Kingston in the show’s opener.

AEW Dynamite live results: New Year’s Smash night two

Darby Allin will defend his TNT Championship for the first time tonight on AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash night two. Allin defends against Team Taz’s Brian Cage.

Allin’s feud with Team Taz stretches back months, as he took on Ricky Starks on Dynamite in September. Since claiming the TNT title from Cody Rhodes at Full Gear on November 7, Allin, Rhodes, and later Sting, have been feuding with Team Taz. Allin and Rhodes defeated Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks at Winter is Coming on December 2, Allin’s most recent match.

Serena Deeb will defend the NWA World Women’s Championship against Tay Conti tonight. Conti will have The Dark Order in her corner.

PAC will take on Eddie Kingston this evening. Since returning to AEW in November, PAC has been feuding with members of Eddie Kingston’s stable. He has defeated The Butcher and The Blade in singles matches, while he and Rey Fenix lost to Butcher and Blade in tag action.

The Elite have been advertised as being in six-man tag action against unnamed opponents. It is expected that the Elite trio will be comprised of Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers.

Chuck Taylor will face Miro. If Taylor loses, he will be forced to become Miro’s “Young Boy” until Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford’s wedding.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

Show Report —

Earlier today, Eddie Kingston said he would bust PAC up and send him back home.

PAC (w/ Lucha Bros) defeated Eddie Kingston (w/ Butcher, Blade, & Bunny)

This was a good, hard-hitting match. Kingston’s selling was the best part.

PAC exploded out before the bell with a shotgun dropkick before landing a Fosbury flop on the outside. Back in the ring, PAC continued to put the boots to Kingston before hitting a missile dropkick. Kingston countered a corner attack with a second-rope knee drop.

Kingston sent PAC out of the ring, and Bunny dug her nails into PAC’s face while Kingston distracted the official. While Fénix complained to the official, Kingston hit an exploder suplex on the floor. While the two teams exchanged words on the floor, Kingston hit a neckbreaker, beginning a targeted attack on PAC’s neck.

A series of chops from Kingston allowed him to maintain control. They had a striking battle in the center of the ring as PAC fought back with forearms before making his comeback with a sequence of strikes and a German suplex. PAC laid in mid kicks, but Kingston fired up with strikes and a backdrop suplex for two.

PAC stunned Kingston on the top rope with an enziguiri before following it up with a superplex. He continued the offense until Kingston popped up with a big lariat for two. PAC countered a DDT and hit a running dropkick before landing the Black Arrow for the win.

After the match, PAC locked on the Brutalizer until Butcher and Blade ran in to break it up. As they all squared off, Lance Archer’s music hit, and he and Jake Roberts made their way to the ring. Archer chased off Kingston and co. before exchanging words with PAC.

**********

Miro (w/ Kip Sabian & Penelope Ford) defeated Chuck Taylor (w/ Orange Cassidy)

If Miro wins, Taylor has to be his butler until Sabian and Ford’s wedding.

Miro posed at the bell, so Taylor attacked with strikes before sending Miro to the floor. Taylor sent Miro into the staging area multiple times before landing a tope con hilo. He continued the attack on the floor, sending Miro into the ring post and landing a diving knee drop. Taylor went to the top rope, but was distracted when Sabian attacked Cassidy. Miro took advantage with a Samoan drop.

It was elementary from there as Miro hit a thrust kick and locked on Game Over, forcing Taylor to tap out in under four minutes.

**********

Matt Hardy and Private Party were interviewed after the tag team signed Hardy as their manager. Hardy had to speak first, but Private Party was still excited about Hardy’s management… that is, until Quen complained about Hardy taking a large chunk of their earnings. They called Hardy a “money-grabbing carny.” Hardy said that Private Party was nothing before him, and demanded that they listen to him from now on.

Inner Circle’s New Year’s Resolutions

Jericho said “who wants to start?” Hager simply yelled “championships, yeah!” MJF wanted to strengthen bonds with everyone else in the group, and also get rid of fat people. Ortiz wanted to master a sofrito recipe.

The resolution for Jericho was winning the AEW tag team championships with MJF. Santana took offense to this, as he and Ortiz are the Inner Circle’s designated tag team. Guevara said that he understands what’s going on here: Jericho is a “tag team slut.”

MJF stood up for Jericho as the rest of the group calmed each other down. Jericho said that any one of them could team with another and win the championships. So next week, there will be a three-way match to determine the official tag team of the Inner Circle. The teams will be MJF & Jericho, Santana & Ortiz, and Sammy & Hager (ha, ha). MJF wrapped it up with the group’s signature middle fingers.

**********

The Dark Order were interviewed about what’s next for the group. Evil Uno said that they will perform in Brodie Lee’s name, and they have to be better people. It all starts next week when Hangman Page will team with the Dark Order again. Silver was extremely excited. Reynolds asked when they’d know for sure about Page joining the Dark Order, and Page said he’d make a decision next week.

An excellent video played recapping the background behind Brian Cage challenging Darby Allin.

Kenny Omega, Don Callis, and the Young Bucks arrived for their upcoming match. They agreed to have separate entrances.

After Omega’s entrance, Callis took the mic and said “the band is back together” before introducing Omega’s “two best friends in the world,” the Good Brothers. The Bucks were shown backstage, offended because it appeared that Callis was talking about the Bucks.

Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) (w/ Don Callis) defeated Varsity Blondes (Griff Garrison & Brian Pillman Jr.) & Danny Limelight

Omega and co. attacked before the bell, taking control on the floor. Limelight got a hope spot in the ring, but Gallows downed him with a clothesline. Varsity Blondes sent the Good Brothers packing, allowing the match to reset.

The Blondes maintained control on Omega with frequent tags until Limelight tagged in and a Gallows kick allowed Omega to hit the Kotaro Crusher. Omega, Gallows, and Anderson kept up the attack through a commercial break.

Back from break, Limelight landed a springboard hurricanrana and avoided a German before hitting a kick, allowing him to reach Pillman for the hot tag. Pillman ran wild on all three opponents before teaming with Garrison to hit a doomsday blockbuster for two on Anderson.

Omega ran into the ring and his team regained control, hitting a triple neckbreaker, but their opponents broke it up. A big boot from Anderson got another two. The Good Brothers went for the Gun Stun, but Limelight tagged in. Anderson stopped Limelight’s attack with a spinebuster, and the Good Brothers hit the Magic Killer for three.

As Omega and the Good Brothers celebrated, Jon Moxley’s music played, and he ran in for a fight, but he was outnumbered. The Lucha Bros ran out to even the odds, and some AEW Dark talent ran out to break up the fight. Moxley landed a tope on a big pile before the Young Bucks entered the fray to try and talk Moxley down. The Lucha Bros downed the Young Bucks with superkicks, and a wild free-for-all brawl ensued as Omega and Callis escaped.

**********

The Waiting Room with Dr. Britt Baker

Rebel introduced Baker to start the segment, and then Baker introduced Cody Rhodes as her guest. Baker went through a campy comedy schtick, which was intentionally bad, as Rebel laughed along obnoxiously, before Cody came out.

Baker congratulated Cody on his and Brandi’s pregnancy. Cody was about to talk about the year to come, but Baker interrupted him and introduced Jade Cargill as her surprise guest.

Cargill grabbed the mic and said that nobody cares about Brandi’s pregnancy. She demanded an opponent and said that if Brandi ever returns, she was going to beat her ass. Red Velvet entered and she and Cargill slapped each other before getting into a pull-apart brawl.

It cut to a video of Baker’s attack on Thunder Rosa from a couple weeks ago. It was followed by a video promo from Rosa, who said that Baker and Rosa would wrestle each other at Beach Break on February 3. Baker complained and said that it wasn’t happening, but a graphic for it came up on the screen. Baker closed the segment.

That was one of the worst segments in Dynamite history. Everything was disjointed, they tried to fit way too much into one segment, and the one advertised thing about the segment –– an interview with Cody Rhodes –– didn’t even happen, making two straight segments where that occurred.

**********

FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) (w/ Tully Blanchard) defeated Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt)

This was a strong tag match, with Stunt holding his own in there against one of the best tag teams in the world.

They wrestled around for a bit at the start before the two teams faced off against each other in the ring. Harwood shoved Stunt into the corner, but Stunt fired back with a slap, which just made Harwood mad. FTR began an extended beatdown of Stunt with frequent tags and power moves.

A tijeras and dropkick allowed Stunt to escape to Jungle Boy for a hot tag. Jurassic Express hit double up kicks before Stunt used assists from Jungle Boy to dispatch both of FTR. Stunt landed a tope through Jungle Boy’s legs before Jungle Boy landed a quebrada.

During the break, FTR took control of the match once again with a double team attack on Stunt. Stunt escaped a Gory Special with a roll-up before avoiding a powerbomb to reach Jungle Boy for his second hot tag. Jungle Boy landed a series of strikes, concluding with a backstabber on Harwood for two.

Jungle Boy and Harwood fought on the top rope before Jungle Boy landed a top-rope hurricanrana, but Wheeler broke up the pin. Harwood rolled up Jungle Boy with a handful of trunks, but he kicked out at two. Stunt tagged in and went for Sliced Bread, but Harwood countered it and leveled Stunt with a lariat.

Harwood beat Stunt down in the corner, but Stunt fought his way out and hit Sliced Bread for two. Stunt rolled to the outside, where Tully rammed him into the ring post. Jungle Boy confronted Tully, but ran into a lariat from Wheeler, who proceeded to send him into the barricade. Back in the ring, FTR hit the Big Rig on Stunt for the win.

NWA Women’s World Championship: Serena Deeb (c) defeated Tay Conti (w/ Anna Jay)

Having watched Conti’s entire NXT career, I am absolutely floored by how good she’s looked in her last two AEW appearances.

They performed chain wrestling at the start as the commentators discussed both women’s martial arts chops. Deeb applied a quick cradle for two, but Conti fought back through applying a heel hook. Deeb countered it into a chinlock, but Conti hit a judo throw as the match reset.

Conti went for a triangle sleeper, but Deeb escaped and landed a sliding lariat for two. They exchanged cradles until Conti downed Deeb with a pump kick. Conti maintained control with judo throws during the break.

A full nelson into a stunner got two for Conti. Deeb countered another hold into a stretch muffler, but Conti reached the ropes. Conti countered the Serenity Lock into a cradle, but Deeb, hit a gutbuster for two.

Deeb perched Conti up top and used the ropes as leverage to apply a Gory Special. Conti evaded the follow-up and hit a pump kick. She went for the Tay-KO, but Deeb countered into the Deeb-tox for the win.

TNT Championship: Darby Allin (c) defeated Brian Cage (w/ Ricky Starks & HOOK)

This match was awesome. These guys worked the David vs. Goliath formula to perfection.

Taz joined commentary before the match, where it was revealed that only two members of Team Taz were allowed at ringside, explaining Powerhouse Hobbs’ absence.

Allin immediately kicked out Cage’s legs and landed a low tope suicida before driving Cage into the barricade. He went for another tope, but Cage caught him out of midair and suplexed him on the floor.

Back in the ring, Allin landed a defiant slap, but Allin clotheslined him down. Cage then pressed Allin above his head and tossed him through a ringside table onto concrete. That was insane, and Allin was busted open. Cage tossed Allin back in the ring and continued the beatdown.

Cage hit a running uppercut and a gamenguiri followed by a release German suplex. He repeatedly threw Allin into the corner and laid in ground and pound, keeping up the beatdown through a commercial break.

Allin went for a dive, so Cage caught him and hit an F5, but Allin kicked out at one. Cage hit a series of three powerbombs, releasing on the third. A defiant Allin flipped Cage off, so Cage powerbombed Allin onto the ramp. Cage brought Allin back into the ring with a suplex over the ropes, but Allin once again kicked out at one, infuriating Cage.

Cage pulled out the ring steps and set up to F5 Allin onto them, but Allin fought out and bit Cage’s hand, sending him onto the steps. Allin then landed a Coffin Drop onto Cage on the steps. Cage barely made it back into the ring at the count of nine.

Allin laid in slaps, but Cage caught a Coffin Drop attempt. He tried to apply a bear hug, but Allin bit his way out and hit a stunner. Allin then tied a belt around Cage’s ankles, but Cage fought back anyway. Cage removed the belt, but Allin hit Code Red for a close near fall. Allin dropkicked Cage into the corner and hit a double stomp.

Starks tried to get involved, but lights went out and Sting appeared with a bat, dispatching Starks. Cage went for an avalanche F5, but Allin countered it into crucifix bomb to retain the championship.

Snow fell and Allin and Sting stood tall in the ring to end the show.

AEW Dynamite video highlights: New Year’s Smash night one

The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) made their AEW debut last night, aligning with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks in the main event segment of New Year’s Smash night one.

Following Omega’s successful title defense against Rey Fenix, Jon Moxley attacked Omega with a barbed wire baseball bat. The Good Brothers made the save for Omega. Anderson and Gallows then fought off a parade of undercard talent who hit the ring to defend their company from the invading Impact duo.

The Young Bucks ran in, seemingly to aid the AEW side. Instead, they saved Omega from an attack by Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison, then threw up the “Too Sweet” hand signal with Omega and The Good Brothers.

Earlier in the show, Moxley cut a promo, promising to be in Omega’s blind spot after Omega took the AEW World Championship from him by nefarious means last month.

Snoop Dogg made a special appearance on the show. Snoop is a co-host of TBS’ Go-Big Show, along with Cody Rhodes. Snoop accompanied Rhodes to the ring for his match with Matt Sydal, then got involved physically in an angle with Luther and Serpentico.

Hikaru Shida retained her AEW Women’s World Championship against Abadon on the show. Wardlow also defeated his Inner Circle teammate Jake Hager, while The Young Bucks & SCU defeated The Acclaimed & TH2 in the show’s opener.

Kenny Omega defends the AEW World Championship against Rey Fenix on tonight’s New Year’s Smash night one episode of Dynamite.

This match was set up on the December 16 Dynamite when PAC confronted Omega. Hikaru Shida will defend the AEW Women’s World Championship tonight against Abadon.

TNT Champion Darby Allin and challenger Brian Cage will participate in a weigh-in ahead of their TNT title match on next week’s New Year’s Smash night two.

Former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley will make his first in-person appearance on an AEW show since losing the title to Omega at AEW Winter is Coming in December.

Cody Rhodes will face Matt Sydal, Jake Hager will take on Wardlow, plus The Young Bucks and SCU will team against The Acclaimed and TH2 in an eight-man tag. An appearance by Sting has also been announced.

A special appearance by Snoop Dogg has also been advertised. Snoop and Cody Rhodes are two of the hosts of TBS’s Go-Big Show, which premieres tomorrow.

Show Report —

Ahead of the opener, Max Caster did his usual rapping schtick, with lots of censorship from the network.

Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) & SCU (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) defeated The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) & TH2 (Angélico & Jack Evans)

This was a very fun, all-action tag opener.

Daniels took a quick shot at Caster, leading to a free-for-all brawl. ¾ of the babyface team landed dives as Kazarian and Bowens were the only men left in the ring. The Bucks went through a long sequence with TH2, concluded with a flipping senton dive from Nick. Daniels went for an Arabian moonsault, but was caught, allowing The Acclaimed to gain control.

The heels maintained control for a long time, with the highlight being Angélico applying unique submission holds to break Daniels down. Daniels fought back with a Blue Thunder Bomb, allowing him to reach Kazarian for the hot tag. Kazarian ran wild on TH2, finishing the run with a German suplex bridge for two. Evans surprised him with a kick and a corkscrew moonsault for two.

Matt tagged in and landed a double suplex on Evans and Bowens. He took out all four opponents with dives and spears before feinting on a moonsault, instead diving onto Caster and Angélico on the outside. Risky Business from the Bucks on Bowens followed for two, followed by a Kazarian slingshot DDT for another two.

Kazarian and Nick hit the BTE Trigger, but Evans broke up the pinfall. TH2 hit a backbreaker combination, but Nick got the knees up on an Evans 630 attempt. The Bucks had a Superkick party on all four opponents before setting up for the Meltzer Driver. Nick stumbled on the ropes but made up for it with a dive on the outside, before Matt and Daniels worked together for the Best Meltzer Ever to finish it.

Kazarian grabbed a mic after the match and discussed his ultimatum with Daniels. SCU then challenged the Bucks for the AEW Tag Team Championships, and the Bucks appeared to accept.

Jon Moxley Returns

Moxley said that complaining about his title loss is a waste of time, because life isn’t fair. All you can do is endure, grit your teeth, and take it on the chin, staring down the adversity and not backing down.

“What to do with Kenny Omega?” Moxley sees things in black and white and doesn’t have time for shitty people, and he’d like to beat them up. But tonight is Rey Fenix’s opportunity, scratching and clawing for thirteen years to reach this point.

Omega isn’t safe and never will be safe. Moxley will forever be in Omega’s blind spot. One day, Omega will look into the eyes of the devil and beg for mercy when he realizes that he crossed the wrong guy.

Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy were interviewed about an update on Trent. He has a torn pec and will be out four to five months. Miro, Sabian, and Ford interrupted. Miro said that sucks for Trent, but it sucks even more for them, because Trent’s the leader of their little group. He said that Taylor can be his new Best Friend, doing chores for him.

Taylor responded by challenging Miro to a match next week. Miro accepted on the condition that if Miro wins, Taylor must be his “young boy” until after Sabian and Ford’s wedding. Taylor accepted the stipulation.

Ahead of the match, a video played where Wardlow talked about his issues with Hager. Wardlow had been absent because of taking care of his family, but the Inner Circle is his family too, and he’s capable of taking care of both. Tonight, he’s giving Hager a war.

Wardlow defeated Jake Hager

The rest of the Inner Circle looked on from the stage.

They had a strong lockup to start, but neither man could take advantage until Wardlow achieved a takedown. Hager got one of his own and beat Wardlow down in the corner with strikes. They collided in the center of the ring with simultaneous clotheslines before leading into a shoulder tackle battle. Wardlow clotheslined Hager to the outside and they traded right hands before simultanious clotheslines downed both men leading into the break.

Wardlow used some athleticism to attack Hager in the corner before hitting a series of release suplexes for two. Hager escaped out of the F10 and hit a series of lariats. An overhead suplex followed for two. Wardlow countered the Vader Bomb but Hager was able to lock on the ankle lock. Wardlow kicked his way out and tackled Hager out of the ring, sending him into the barricade.

Back in the ring, Wardlow landed another series of suplexes, concluding with a German for two. A senton atomico followed for another two, but Hager locked on a head and arm choke. Wardlow got his foot on the rope, forcing the break. They fought on the second rope as Hager applied the head and arm choke once again, but Wardlow shoved him down. The F10 followed for the win.

Hager was extremely frustrated after the match, but the rest of the Inner Circle got them to fist bump for a show of respect.

Private Party was about to make some gin and juice backstage, but only had gin. Snoop Dogg arrived with the juice. Matt Hardy showed up with contracts for Private Party. The implication was that Hardy would take a large cut out of their earnings in exchange for some mentorship.

Darby Allin/Brian Cage Weigh-In

Allin came out with the new TNT Championship belt, now with a black strap, while Cage was out with the rest of Team Taz. These two will wrestle for Allin’s TNT Championship next week on Dynamite.

Taz got offended that Cage had to weigh first, but Cage went ahead and did it anyway. Cage’s official weight was 272 pounds. Allin weighed in next at 170 pounds, which seems generous.

Allin said that this feud was 27 years in the making, because he’s dealt with shit from people like Taz his whole life. He got ready for a fight, but the lights went out and Sting appeared, bat in hand. Team Taz retreated to the stage but Taz promised that next week we would see a new TNT champion.

Backstage, Jake Hager was punching a garage door out of frustration. MJF tried to hype him up, telling him he’s a better athlete than the audience and undefeated in MMA. Hager said that he was about to lay MJF out, but instead said that MJF was cool, and appreciated the comment.

They aired a clip of Brodie “-1” Lee Jr. cutting a promo on Marko Stunt from this week’s AEW Dark.

Alex Marvez interviewed Jurassic Express about that bit of fun, but FTR interrupted and called Stunt “useless” and a “loser.” Stunt proposed taking Luchasaurus’ spot in their upcoming tag match, but FTR was unconcerned.

During Cody’s entrance, they played a remixed version of his song with Snoop Dogg rapping over it. Snoop is Cody’s coach from the upcoming TNT “Go Big Show.”

Cody Rhodes (w/ Snoop Dogg) defeated Matt Sydal

This was a strong match with a lighthearted post-match interaction.

Sydal landed a high kick early on but kind of whiffed on a springboard arm drag attempt. He followed it up with a diving meteora on the ramp but hurt his knee in the process. Cody took advantage with his drop-down right hand, but Sydal landed a diving dropkick on the outside. Cody tried to strike Sydal but missed and hit Serpentico at ringside instead. Cody rolled through on a diving crossbody and stepped over into a scorpion deathlock until Sydal reached the ropes.

After a commercial break, Cody landed an inverted vertical suplex from the second rope, but only got two. Sydal avoided a moonsault attempt and hit a rising knee strike. He went for the Shooting Star Press, but Cody got his knees up and hit a reverse DDT for a near fall. Cody tried to keep up the offense but Sydal reversed it into a cobra clutch attempt. They traded strikes until Cody clotheslined Sydal to the floor.

Back in the ring, Cody hit the Disaster Kick for a near fall. Sydal fought out of Din’s Fire and hit a hurricanrana cradle for a good near fall. A roundhouse kick followed by the Lightning Spiral got another close near fall for Sydal. Cody avoided another knee strike and hit two Cross Rhodes for the pin.

Luther and Serpentico, known as Chaos Project, attacked Cody after the match. Sydal made the save, dispatching Luther, and tried to go to the top rope, but Snoop waved him off. Snoop climed the ropes and landed a hilarious looking splash as Cody counted three just for fun. Very enjoyable segment, and a good use of Snoop.

AEW Women’s Championship: Hikaru Shida (c) defeated Abadon

Cody Rhodes, from May 2019: “I want to be the sports-centric alternative in the pro wrestling world.”

Abadon attacked Shida during her entrance, but Shida downed her with a kendo stick shot.

Once inside the ring, the match began. Shida took control with a running dropkick before removing a scarf, revealing that she still has a gash on her neck from the Abadon attack two weeks ago. Shida went for a knee lift, but Abadon caught it and bit Shida’s leg before driving her into the barricade. Abadon dragged Shida under the ring before emergin with blood dropping down her face.

A bloodied Shida emerged, having been bitten in the neck again. No idea how that’s not a disqualification. Back in the ring, an X-factor from Abadon got two. She continued the beatdown into the break.

Shida sent Abadon to the outside and landed a frog splash crossbody on the floor. She repeatedly smashed Abadon’s head into the barricade before bringing Abadon to the top rope and hitting a superplex. Abadon bridged up like Bray Wyatt and landed a clothesline for two.

A cradle allowed Shida to hit the Tamashii knee strike for the win.

PAC and the Lucha Bros, billed as Death Triangle, spoke earlier today. PAC introduced Rey Fénix as the next AEW world champion, saying that tonight, Kenny Omega’s belt collection is done.

AEW World Championship: Kenny Omega (c) (w/ Don Callis) def. Rey Fénix

What a match! This easily contends with the Parking Lot Brawl and Brodie Lee vs. Cody in the Dog Collar Match for the best Dynamite match since the pandemic.

Omega tried to overpower Fénix with some chain wrestling at the start. The pace quickened with a spike hurricanrana from Omega. He called for the Terminator dive, but Fénix ran back in and landed a hurricanrana of his own before feinting on a dive. Fénix kicked Omega to the floor and landed a diving hurricanrana.

Back in the ring, Omega hit a swinging DDT, but Fénix popped up and hit a dropkick. He went for a springboard, but Omega chopped him down and continued the beatdown on the floor. Fénix was sent over the barricade and hit a gamenguiri before going for his rolling cutter, but Omega countered it into a snap dragon suplex. Omega followed it up with a back suplex onto the barricade before sending Fénix back into the ring.

Omega hit the Kotaro Crusher for two. Fénix fought back with overhand chops, leading to a chop exchange, which Omega won with his superior power. Omega continued to dismantle Fénix’s midsection until Fénix flipped out of a suplex and landed a springboard headbutt.

There was an incredible spot where Fénix went to the top rope, was knocked down, and somehow recovered enough to hit the move he intended to. Fénix then followed it up with an absurd tope suicida where he almost landed in the front row. Omega went for You Can’t Escape, but Fénix fought out and flipped over into a German suplex for a close near fall. Fénix landed a diving stomp to the back of Omega’s head leading into a commercial break.

They had another chop battle, this time seated in the middle of the ring. Omega once again took control with his superior power and toyed with the idea of pulling off Fénix’s mask. Fénix fired up and hit some strikes and a thrust kick. Omega avoided a hook kick and landed a V-Trigger, but Fénix bounced back with the hook kick, leading to a double down.

Fénix went for a tornillo dive, but Omega countered it with a rising knee and hit a powerbomb stack for two. Another V-Trigger followed for a good near fall. Yet another V-Trigger landed and Omega set up for the One Winged Angel, but Fénix countered into a reverse hurricanrana. Callis distracted Fénix, allowing Omega to land another V-Trigger, but Fénix hit a gamenguiri and a diving cutter for two. The Fire Thunder Driver followed for a fantastic near fall.

Omega got his knees up on a frog splash attempt and brought Fénix up top. Fénix fought out and went for a dive, but Omega caught him in perfect Jay Driller position. A V-Trigger got two, and the One-Winged Angel followed for three.

– After the match, Callis grabbed a mic and said that he heard that something terrible was happening backstage. Eddie Kingston and his Family were attacking PAC and Penta backstage. Callis said that they weren’t coming to help Fénix, but Jon Moxley came out with a barbed wire bat, swinging it into Omega’s stomach to make the save.

The Good Brothers, IMPACT Tag Team Champions Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson, came out to make the save for Omega. They laid Moxley out with a Magic Killer before Omega repeatedly hit Moxley with the barbed wire bat.

The Varsity Blondes ran in from outside to try to save, but they were easily dispatched. The rest of the ringside wrestlers all came in, but all were sent packing by Omega, Gallows, and Anderson. Gallows powerbombed one of them through a ringside table, and Omega hit Moxley with the barbed wire bat one more time. Moxley made one last attempt at a comeback, but was overwhelmed by the numbers advantage.

Finally, the Young Bucks ran out to try to reason with Omega and the Good Brothers (all of them were in Bullet Club at one point), but when Varsity Blondes tried to attack Omega, the Bucks superkicked them away. Omega raised the Too Sweet sign and both the Good Brothers and the Young Bucks joined him, as they all posed to close the show.

PAC vs. Eddie Kingston added to AEW New Year’s Smash night two

AEW bolstered their lineup for night two of the New Year’s Smash editions of Dynamite, adding three matches betwen heated rivals.

Night two will be on Wednesday, January 13th and will be taped next week.

In one match, PAC will face Eddie Kingston. The two have been at odds since PAC returned to AEW, taking back his Death Triangle teammates Penta El Zero M and Rey Fenix from Kingston’s entourage.

In another match, Miro will face Chuck Taylor of Best Friends. The Friends have been feuding with Miro and Kip Sabian for several months with Miro and Sabian injuring Trent in storyline last week due to a partially torn pectoral muscle.

Finally, Dr. Britt Baker will face former NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa. The two have been involved in several pull apart brawls over the past few weeks, one of which was on this week’s Dynamite.

The January 13th lineup will also feature TNT Champion Darby Allin vs. Brian Cage and FTR vs. Jurassic Express.

Eight-man tag team match added to AEW New Year’s Smash night one

The first of AEW’s two New Year’s Smash editions of Dynamite will feature an eight-man tag match featuring their tag team champions and their most recent challengers.

Current champions The Young Bucks will team with the first-ever tag champions SCU to take on The Acclaimed and The Hybrid2 as part of next Wednesday’s live show.

The match was hinted at during Tuesday’s episode of Dark after SCU defeated TH2 in the main event. Afterward, The Acclaimed ran out and attacked Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian along with TH2 only to have the Bucks come out and run them off.

Two weeks ago on the Holiday Bash edition of Dynamite, the Bucks defeated The Acclaimed for their first successful title defense.

Also announced Wednesday, the Cody Rhodes vs. Matt Sydal match originally slated for night two was moved up to next week.

Next Wednesday will also feature:

  • AEW World Champion Kenny Omega vs. Rey Fenix
  • An appearance from former champion Jon Moxley
  • AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida vs. Abadon
  • Jake Hager vs. Wardlow
  • Snoop Dogg and Chris Jericho on commentary

Allin-Cage TNT title match set for AEW New Year’s Smash night two

The first matches for night two of AEW New Year’s Smash on January 6th were announced, headlined by TNT Champion Darby Allin vs. Brian Cage.

Cage’s manager Taz made it official during Wednesday’s Holiday Bash edition of Dynamite, telling Allin as he stood side-by-side with Sting after Team Taz had threatened the legend and were approaching the ring to attack him.

In another match, Cody Rhodes (w/ Arn Anderson) will take on Matt Sydal. Rhodes last defeated Angelico two weeks ago and was confronted by Team Taz afterward, leading to Sting making the save.

The final match announced was FTR (w/ Tully Blanchard) vs. Jurassic Express (w/ Marko Stunt) which has been brewing for several weeks. FTR announced the match was official Wednesday following the Express’ win over 5 and 10 of the Dark Order. Blanchard added he may have to “go back to the 80s” if Stunt gets involved.

Snoop Dogg will be a guest commentator on the live show.

Night one will take place next Wednesday and is headlined by World Champion Kenny Omega vs. Rey Fenix. Former champion Jon Moxley will also make his first appearance since losing the title.

Omega vs. Fenix title match set for AEW New Year’s Smash night one

An AEW World title match between Kenny Omega and Rey Fenix has been announced for the final Dynamite of 2020 on December 30th, the first of their two New Year’s Smash shows.

After Omega defeated Joey Janela in Wednesday’s main event, PAC, Rey Fenix, and Penta El 0 M came out on the stage. PAC said they had unfinished business, noting that Fenix was never eliminated from the recent World title elminator tournament as he had been removed due to injury.

He suggested Fenix should be next in line for a title match and announced that was indeed happening, much to Omega and Don Callis’ dismay. Callis said PAC had no power to make a match to which PAC responded by saying that Tony Khan had already sanctioned it.

The next three weeks of Dynamite will be special edition shows as December 23rd will be their taped Holiday Bash event while the December 30th and January 6th live shows will be called New Year’s Smash. Chris Jericho will do commentary on the first night, while Snoop Dogg will appear on the second night.
