Big Boom AJ worked through broken foot at AEW Full Gear

Update —

Fightful reports that AJ Befumo actually suffered his broken foot before AEW Full Gear but still went on with the match.

Though he was victorious in his AEW debut, Big Boom AJ didn’t make it out of his pro wrestling return unscathed.

AEW announced today that AJ Befumo suffered a broken foot during his match against QT Marshall on the Full Gear pre-show. The promotion wished Befumo a speedy recovery and said they look forward to welcoming him back in the future at any time.

“While bringing the BOOM! against @QTMarshall on this past Saturday’s #AEWFullGear Zero Hour, Big BOOM! @ajbefumo suffered a broken foot but managed to fight valiantly and earn the victory in his #AEW debut in front of his son, #BigJustice, friend #TheRizzler, more than 10,000 fans at @PruCenter
and millions of fans from around the world watching at home,” AEW wrote.

“AEW looks forward to welcoming Big BOOM! A.J., Big Justice and the whole Costco Guys crew back anytime, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

Befumo still appeared at the post-Full Gear media scrum despite his injury. According to AEW wrestler Anthony Bowens, Befumo also stayed backstage for hours taking pictures with people and signing autographs.

“You can talk sh*t all you want but @ajbefumo not only went out and lit up the audience..he broke his foot, finished the match and I watched him make sure he fulfilled every pic and video request backstage hours afterwards. Respect,” Bowens tweeted.

Befumo, 48, is a former indie wrestler who originally competed as “The American Powerchild” Eric Justice in the 1990s-2000s. His return to the ring for AEW came after a rise to social media fame on TikTok, where he and his son Big Justice (Eric Befumo) are known as the Costco Guys. They rate food products and document their trips to Costco on their father-son channel.

Big Justice accompanied his father to the ring at Full Gear on Saturday and got involved in the match, spearing Marshall when Aaron Solo tried to interfere on Marshall’s behalf. A Power Boom from Befumo then got the victory.

AEW owner Tony Khan has had high praise for Befumo and Big Justice, saying he’s learned a lot about marketing from them.

Big Boom AJ wins AEW debut at Full Gear Zero Hour

TikTok star AJ Befumo now has a 1-0 record in AEW.

With an assist from his son Big Justice, Befumo was able to defeat QT Marshall on the AEW Full Gear pre-show. The match marked a successful return to the ring for the 48-year-old Befumo, a former indie wrestler who has not regularly competed in two decades.

The closing stretch of the match saw Big Justice (Eric Befumo) get involved after Aaron Solo tried to interfere on behalf of Marshall. The younger Befumo took out Marshall with a spear, then his father hit a “Power Boom” to get the victory.

Befumo and Big Justice have become social media sensations over the past year, building a following on TikTok with their father-son channel. They are called the “Costco Guys” with their most popular videos being trips to Costco and rating food products.

For this match, Befumo went by the name Big Boom AJ and entered to “We Bring the Boom” — a song that he and Big Justice released over the summer that went viral on social media and helped their rise to fame.

Befumo and Big Justice also had their friend and fellow TikTok celebrity The Rizzler (Christian Joseph) with them. The young child served as the guest timekeeper and celebrated with Befumo and Big Justice after ringing the bell. Before the finish, there was a moment where Wight needed to protect The Rizzler when Marshall went over to the timekeeper’s area.

What comes next for Befumo in wrestling remains to be seen. He’s said that — if Full Gear went well – he’d be honored to have more matches with AEW in the future. Tony Khan has spoken highly of Befumo and Big Justice, saying he’s learned a lot about marketing from them. Befumo was able to promote Full Gear during appearances on The Tonight Show, Fox Business, and other mainstream outlets leading into the event.

Befumo was called “The American Powerchild” Eric Justice when he used to compete on the indies. He wrestled “for about 11 years” from the 1990s-2000s.

Costco Guy A.J. issues challenge for match at AEW Full Gear

The much-anticipated AEW debut of A.J. from the Costco Guys appears to be taking place in a familiar spot for the viral social media star.
