Malakai Black will continue his feud with the Rhodes family on AEW Dynamite.
Black vs. Dustin Rhodes has been announced for Wednesday’s Dynamite in Cincinnati, Ohio. The match was set up on AEW Rampage. Black took on Nightmare Family member Lee Johnson. After teasing hitting Johnson with a chair, Black then tempted Johnson to use the chair on him instead. Johnson refused and ultimately lost the match.
After the Black vs. Johnson bout, Dustin ran in to make the save. He grabbed the chair to threaten Black, but Black begged off.
Black previously defeated Cody Rhodes on the August 4 edition of Dynamite in his AEW in-ring debut. He made his first appearance for the promotion a month earlier on the July 7 Road Rager edition of Dynamite, laying out Cody’s manager Arn Anderson. Black then defeated Arn’s son Brock on the August 25 Dynamite.
Cincinnati’s own Jon Moxley’s homecoming has also been announced for Wednesday’s show. Dynamite airs at 8 p.m. Eastern time on TNT in the US.
Three matches have been announced for this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.
Already announced on this week’s episode, Natural Nightmares (Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall) vs. The Butcher and The Blade will now be a bunkhouse match. No further details as to what that stipulation represents were announced. In storyline, The Bunny, formerly Allie, pretended to be romantically interested in Marshall. After maxing out Marshall’s credit cards, Allie supposedly returned to her real-life husband, The Blade.
In women’s division action, Tay Conti will take on Red Velvet. Velvet, who is coming off a loss to Nyla Rose on this week’s Dynamite, will have Brandi Rhodes in her corner.
The Lucha Bros will also face off in a singles match as Rey Fenix faces Penta El Zero M. The two met in the first round of the AEW World title eliminator tournament on October 21. Fenix was victorious but was also injured in the match. As a result, Penta took his place in the tournament semifinals against Kenny Omega.
AEW Dynamite airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern time on TNT.
Excalibur, Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone were the broadcast team.
**********
Schiavone opened the show by interviewing Chris Jericho and MJF as they arrived at the building. Jericho and MJF played fake nice with each other. Each told the other that they had been screwed at All Out and would be AEW Champion soon.
As they walked away, each called the other an idiot.
Funny.
**********
Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus (w/Marko Stunt) defeated Penta El Zero M & Rey Fenix (w/Eddie Kingston, Butcher & Blade)
This was a good opener but maybe a notch below what you would expect from these teams.
Jungle Boy and Fenix began with a hot sequence. Jungle Boy hit a suicide dive. Jungle Boy tried to use Luchasaurus as a launch pad but slipped. The announcers cited the heat as the reason for the botch.
Jungle Boy got cut off and worked over. There were two separate heat segments on Jungle Boy. Luchasaurus got two hot tags and ran wild with chops and kicks both times.
Luchasaurus made a tag to Jungle Boy. Penta and Fenix hit their package driver/double stomp combo but Jungle Boy kicked out.
For the finish, Fenix came off the top with a flying attack. Jungle Boy moved out of the way and Fenix hit Penta. Jungle Boy rolled up Penta for the pin.
***********
They teased dissension within this group that has been together for a few weeks after the match. Penta and Fenix had to be pulled apart.
Kingston cut a strong promo and said he’s there for them, they’re his best friends and they all have each other’s backs.
He also made a reference to PAC not being there for them and made a reference to someone’s wife not being there for them, that went over my head.
Everyone made up and Kingston closed the promo by saying he was never eliminated from the Casino Battle Royale at All Out and to read the rules if we don’t believe him.
**********
The announcers showed highlights from Mox/MJF at All Out and pushed that the PPV replay is available for purchase. They were really pushing the replay hard.
The announcers previewed the rest of the show.
**********
Lance Archer and Jake Roberts cut a promo on Moxley. They were standing in a rainy alley.
Roberts said they were getting wet and enjoying it and they were going to make Moxley pee himself.
Archer said Moxley has been champ for too long and he’s sick of it.
**********
Matt Hardy came to the ring for a promo. He said it was great to be in front of a live audience and thanked everyone watching at home.
He said he took a scary fall and was grateful for the amazing outpouring of love and support from the fans.
He said that after a myriad of tests he was expected to make a 100 percent full recovery.
Matt pointed out his “I Don’t Die” shirt. He said he might be the dumbest man alive but he’s for sure the luckiest. He pointed out his family, his wife Reby was in the crowd with one of their children.
He apologized to the fans for the match at All Out not being what he wanted it to be. He said maybe it’s best that his feud with Sammy Guevara is over because if things had kept ramping up someone could have been seriously hurt.
Matt said that once he’s cleared he’s going to get ranked and get his first AEW championship. He said his journey is far from over and the fans are the best.
Excellent babyface promo.
**********
Orange Cassidy defeated Angelico (w/Jack Evans)
This was a little bit more than a squash in that Angelico got some offense but it was super quick.
Angelico worked over Cassidy’s legs with a variety of holds.
Cassidy made a quick comeback and hit a suicide dive and a high cross off the top for a near fall.
Cassidy hit the Orange Punch for the pin.
**********
Santana and Ortiz ran in and attacked Cassidy after the match. Trent and Chuck ran in to make the save.
Trent and Chuck challenged Santana and Ortiz to a fight in the parking lot next week.
**********
Alex Marvez knocked on the Young Bucks’ locker room door. They opened the door and hit him with a tandem superkick.
**********
The Best Man
Tony Schiavone was in the ring. He called out Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford for Sabian to reveal his best man for their wedding.
Sabian plugged his Twitch channel and asked Schiavone to leave the ring. Sabian introduced his best man. Indie wrestler Puf entered first. He wasn’t the best man. Brian Pillman Jr. entered. He was also not the best man.
Miro, the former Rusev, then entered. He is the best man. The announcers said that maybe because Miro and Sabian are both big on Twitch they found a kinship.
Miro said after ten years in the same house with a glass ceiling and an imaginary brass ring, you can shove that brass ring up your ass.
Miro said he’s not just a best man, he’s THE best man. He said if you tune into Twitch you know he’s the best gamer and if you tune in to “right here” you’ll see him destroy people very night.
Miro said elite recognizes elite and he is All Elite.
**********
Tony Schiavone interviewed Hangman Page. Page had his glass of whiskey with him.
Schiavone asked how Page was doing. Page gave a stock answer. Schiavone pressed him for a more honest answer.
Page said that it felt inevitable that he and Kenny Omega were going to split at All Out but it didn’t have to be that way.
He said it was his fault that FTR were in a position to challenge for the titles and he made a mistake in thinking that because the looked like him and talked like him that they were like him.
Page said that he and Kenny had a lot of problems but a lot of wins. He said not having the titles is a challenge but they’ll climb their way back to the top.
So they’re presenting this as if Page is assuming they’re still a team.
Lots of guys in their 30s talking about their feelings on this wrestling show.
**********
Chris Jericho & Jake Hager defeated Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss in a no DQ match
This was a decent brawl that picked up the pace and intensity after a commercial break.
Janela scored some early offense on Jericho. Janela pulled a chair from under the ring and used it. He set it up to use as a launch pad for a leg lariat in the corner but Jericho blocked and hit a suplex onto the legs of the chair.
Janela was cut off and worked over during a break. Kiss got a tag and made a comeback after the commercial break. Hager set up a table on the floor. Hager and Jericho threw Janela off the stage through the table.
Kiss hit a dive to the stage to both Hager and Jericho. Kiss went to the top rope. Jericho sprayed Kiss with a fire extinguisher. Hager then hit Kiss with a uranage and pinned Kiss with a head and arm choke.
**********
Jericho cut a promo after the match. He said All Out was a terrible night for The Inner Circle, his boots still smell like rotten orange and Sammy is home injured.
Jericho said it’s time to turn it all around and he and Hager want the Tag Team titles.
**********
MJF cut a promo backstage in his campaign headquarters. He said Moxley cheated at All Out but he doesn’t blame him because it’s in his nature.
MJF said the campaign staff is to blame and fired them all.
MJF then turned his attention to Wardlow. MJF said they shouldn’t have a problem because he signs Wardlow’s checks, not AEW.
MJF asked if they had a problem, because if they did, he would have to put Wardlow and his family on the street.
MJF said now is not the time for aggression, it’s time to plan how to get back on top.
**********
Moxley cut a promo. He said as if he didn’t have enough on his plate he saw out of the corner of his eye that Lance Archer won the battle royale Saturday night.
Moxley said it doesn’t get any easier for him now with Archer. He said Archer is a monster. But we need to ask ourselves, would you really bet against Moxley right now?
**********
Tully Blanchard and FTR were in the ring for a celebration. Some members of the tag division were surrounding the ring.
Tully put over FTR as the best team in the world. Cash said they are undefeated but they had to fight their way to the top. Cash pointed out SCU and said imagine the matches they could have had if SCU were still in their prime.
Dax cut a promo and said they’re now the locker room leaders. Dax pointed out Jurassic Express and said they get a non-title match with them next week.
Jurassic Express jumped in to face off with FTR. FTR begged off, then threw alcohol in Luchasaurus’s eyes.
FTR rolled outside. Jurassic Express dumped a cooler of ice on them. The remaining teams cut cake slices for each other while FTR and Tully left.
This felt like a bad WWE skit.
***********
Taz joined the announce team. Ricky Starks entered and did a promo dressed as Darby Allin.
Starks mocked Allin for getting hurt all the time and said the nex time Allin shows up, Absolute Ricky Starks is going to absolutely kick his ass.
**********
Nyla Rose (w/Vickie Guerrero) defeated Tay Conti
Conti was nearly in tears as she entered, clearly this meant a lot to her after signing today.
The match was a little bit clunky but a step up from most AEW women’s division matches.
Conti tried a rolling kneebar. Rose fought free and hit a splash in the corner. Vickie Guerrero interfered and raked Conti’s eyes.
They fought to the floor. Conti sent Rose into the barricade and posted her. Conti hit a second rope crossbody for a near fall during an ad break.
Conti tried a springboard sunset flip but Rose blocked. Rose teased a Beast Bomb. Conti blocked and used a triangle choke.
Rose used a Beast Bomb to escape the choke and pinned Conti.
The announcers started talking about how The Young Bucks had been fined for attacking Marvez earlier and how Cody will have a big announcement after the show.
Excalibur kept trying to bring it back to the action but JR and Tony were plugging other stuff.
**********
After the match, Rose continued beating down Conti. Hikaru Shida ran in for the save with a kendo stick.
The announcers mentioned Conti’s offer from Dark Order, which it seemed that sh had accepted on TV a couple of weeks ago. There were no Dark Order teases at all here and Conti was clearly a babyface.
**********
The announcers again said that the Bucks had been fined.
JR threw to a sit-down interview he had done with Omega earlier in the day. This is the best use of JR, by the way.
Omega said winning and losing titles comes with being a pro. He said there’s no reconciliation plan for him with Page and it’s time for him to be the ace he thought he would be and be a singles star.
This was great and worth going out of your way to see.
**********

These guys beat the hell out of each other. This was an excellent brawl and very physical.
Rhodes attacked Lee during the ring introductions. They brawled around ringside with Rhodes maintaining the upper hand.
They made it back to the ring where Lee turned the tide and hit some chops. They traded chops. Lee hit some palm strikes. Lee hit a slingshot in the ropes and had the advantage before the final ad break.

**********
Dark Order came to the ring after the match. They dragged the lifeless body of QT Marshall with them.
Lee kicked Cabana out, still upset with him for blowing their win at All Out.
Lee kicked Dustin low and the announcers threw to… Cody.
**********
Cody said he’s injured and has come up with a new concept in a quarantine bubble in Macon, Georgia.
Cody then threw to a commercial for the Go Big talent show on TBS, hosted by Bert Kreischer.
Jennifer Nettles, Rosario Dawson, Snoop Dogg and Cody will be the judges.
This was technically the final segment of Dynamite, a commercial for a talent show.
Dynamite will be back next Wednesday or Thursday depending on the NBA Playoffs.
Kip Sabian will announce his ‘best man’ for his upcoming wedding on this week’s Dynamite, while a TNT title match has also been announced.
Sabian and Penelope Ford were shown on tonight’s All In event, with Sabian announcing that they were getting married, and it will take place live on AEW Dynamite. Sabian mentioned that with every wedding, there is a bachelor party, and the best man is usually the person who sets up the bachelor party.
Interviewer Alex Marvez asked Sabian who his best man was. Sabian said he would introduce him on Dynamite this week.
Dustin Rhodes, meanwhile, will get a TNT title match against Brodie Lee this Wednesday. Rhodes got the shot after his team defeated the Dark Order tonight at All Out, with Dustin pinning Cabana.
After the match, Tony Schiavone made the announcement to Rhodes. Dustin, shocked, said this was the first time in a while he’s had a shot at the gold and promised to bring hell to Brodie Lee.
Two championships will be on the line tonight on Dynamite.
Kenny Omega and Hangman Page will defend their AEW World Tag Team Championships against The Natural Nightmares, QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes. Rhodes and Marshall carry a 5-0 record as a team in 2020 into the contest, while Omega and Page clock in at 7-0 in 2020.
The next challengers for the tag titles will be decided tonight as well.
Best Friends, Chuck Taylor and Trent, won a number one contenders match at Double or Nothing to earn a title shot at Fyter Fest in July. After Chris Jericho and The Inner Circle attacked their friend Orange Cassidy on Dynamite last week, Trent and Taylor demanded a match with Jericho and Sammy Guevara on tonight’s episode. As explained by Tony Khan on Twitter, Jericho and Guevara would only agree to the match if Best Friends put their title shot on the line tonight.
Cody is set to make his third defense of the AEW TNT Championship tonight. No opponent has been named for his open challenge.
The Young Bucks will also be in action against Jimmy Havoc and Kip Sabian.
MJF vs. Billy, plus Anna Jay in action have also been announced for the show.
Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

AEW World Tag Team Championship match: Kenny Omega & Hangman Page defeated Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall (w/Brandi Rhodes) to retain the titles
There were some issues here. Good wrestling in this match but way too much nonsense went on around the wrestling.
First, by not having Allie out there from the beginning you telegraphed that there wouldn’t be a finish until Allie showed up.
Second, the commentators were all over the place. Excalibur was busy trying to explain the Dustin/Brandi/Allie/QT story for those who don’t watch AEW Dark. Tony Schavone was reading messages that Britt Baker was passing him. Britt is great and she and Tony are great together but somebody has to call the action.
Omega and Dustin began. They did a spot where Dustin took an accidental headbutt in the corner. That laid the foundation for the story of the match. Dustin sold like he was woozy and forced QT to work much of the match.
Omega hit a springboard double sledge to QT. Page hit a sliding lariat on QT for a near fall. Omega hit a kotaro krusher. The story was that QT was taking a beating but surviving.
QT made a hot tag to Dustin. The Natural Nightmares logo on Dustin’s bodysuit began peeling off. That’s a perfect metaphor for this team. Dustin was great here delivering his destroyer and flip dive off the apron plus a powerslam. QT hit a QT Special, which Excalibur accurately referred to as ugly.
Allie came to the stage to try to fire QT up. QT hit a diamond cutter. QT got cut off and Page hit him with a rolling elbow for a two count. Omega hit a v-trigger for a near fall.
The finish saw Omega and Page hit the Last Call. Omega covered QT for the pin.
Allie’s appearance led to nothing.
**********
The announcers previewed the rest of the card. They revealed that Cody would be defending against someone from outside of AEW tonight.
*********
We got an Anna Jay promo package. She said she’s signed to AEW and is still figuring out the entertainment side of wrestling.
Abadon defeated Anna Jay
Abadon has a horror movie gimmick. Abadon squashed Jay and pinned her with a hurricanrana.
After the match, Dark Order entered with Jay still down in the middle of the ring. Evil Uno presented Colt Cabana an envelope. Mr. Brodie Lee nodded at Cabana.
5 and 10 helped Jay out of the ring and to the back.
Jay has a world of potential, she just needs ring time and consistency. We’ll see how her story with Dark Order plays out.
**********
MJF (w/Wardlow) defeated Billy (w/Austin & Colten Gunn)
They had to pay this off with a match after they shot the angle last week but I’m still not sure why they shot the angle.
Billy hit a big boot and a thumb to the eye. MJF teased walking out but Billy followed him up the tunnel and carried him back to the ring.
Billy went for a fameasser but MJF avoided it, hit a chop block and took control of the match before an ad break. MJF and Wardlow posted Billy and worked over his legs during the break.
Billy made a comeback after the break. MJF jawed with the referee. MJF went for a fameasser but Gunn blocked and hit a fameasser. Wardlow jumped on the apron and took the ref. Wardlow passed MJF his diamond ring.
Wardlow went after Austin and Colten on the floor. Gunn went after Wardlow and sent him into the barricade. Gunn climbed back inside and MJF nailed him with the ring.
MJF immediately covered for the pin.
**********

**********
Alex Marvez interviewed Jericho and Guevara backstage. Jericho said Marvez has a fat head.
Jericho and Guevara promised to beat Best Friends to a pulp tonight. Jericho said he and Guevara are more than friends, they’re blood brothers and blood is thicker than orange juice.
**********
Tony interviewed Britt Baker. He started the interview by announcing Penelope Ford vs. Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s World title at Fyter Fest.
Baker said that Ford is only getting the shot because she’s hurt. Baker then got pissed at Tony and said they’re on a friendship timeout and TNT will be pissed at Tony for losing an interview with her.
Baker called for Reba to roll her away but Big Swole was revealed to be driving Baker’s cart. Swole drove off.
**********
Cody entered for the open challenge.
He cut a promo. He said the air is thin and it’s lonely at the top. He said when Jake Hager beat him down last week he noticed that there were no members of The Elite or Nightmare Family that came to his aid.
Cody wondered if he was still in The Elite or if The Nightmare Family was still a family. This was the most overt tease for a heel turn in the series of teases for a heel turn that Cody has been doing.
Arn Anderson cut a promo. He said that timing is everything and the timing for the match with Hager at Fyter Fest just isn’t right.
Nonetheless, Arn said, he had an opponent for Cody tonight, someone who would be a good test.
A Ricky Starks video package then played. Starks put himself over as the hottest free agent in wrestling.
Starks then entered for the TNT title match.
**********
AEW TNT Championship match: Cody defeated Ricky Starks to retain the title
Cody gave Starks a ton and they had a very good TV match. They worked it more as a back and forth athletic contest than your traditional heel vs. babyface battle.
The repeatedly cut to Hager backstage as he watched the match on TV.
They locked up and traded hammerlocks. Cody missed a charge into the ropes and sold his ribs. Starks set Cody up in the ropes but Arn pulled Cody out of the way before Starks could connect. That was a total heel move, nothing subtle about it. Starks hit a big DDT and a top rope superplex.
Cody hit a suicide dive. JR couldn’t help but seize the opportunity to shit on suicide dives.
The finishing sequence saw Cody miss a disaster kick which led to a series of cradles for near falls. Cody then hit Cross Rhodes for the pin.
Cody and Starks shook hands after the match.
**********
The Young Bucks defeated Superbad Squad (w/Penelope Ford)
Good action in this match but way too much going on, as is the theme of tonight’s show.
Referee Rick Knox took a pair of pliers away from Havoc before the opening bell.
Havoc went right after Matt’s heavily taped ribs. Nick tagged in and The Bucks hit some tandem offense and stereo planchas. Butcher and Blade jawed with the Bucks from the audience.
Butcher and Blade jumped on the apron and took the ref. Havoc hit Matt with a wet floor sign and the Squad worked Matt over through a commercial break.
FTR came to ringside to watch the match.
Matt made his own comeback then made a hot tag to Nick. Nick ran absolutely crazy on the hot tag. He hit a springboard attack to the stage on Havoc.
Nick used a sharpshooter on Sabian. Havoc grabbed a hammer and took the ref. Ford jumped in and hit Nick with the wet floor sign. Havoc hit an implant DDT for a near fall. Sabian tagged in and hit an assisted DDT for a near fall. Sabian missed a double stomp off the top.

The Bucks hit Blade with an Indytaker. FTR hit Havoc with a spike piledriver at the same time.
The segment ended with FTR and The Bucks facing off in the ring.
**********
The announcers threw to a Taz and Brian Cage video.
Taz explained the scene last week where Moxley and Cage went at it. Taz said Moxley is stealing his gimmick that he came up with decades ago.
Cage interrupted Taz and said he can’t wait for Fyter Fest to rip Mox’s head off and take his title.
Cage said nobody better than Cage.
**********
Moxley cut a pre-taped promo. He said he has bad demons that only beating people up in the ring can keep at bay.
**********
Sammy Guevara vs. Matt Hardy, Mr. Brodie Lee & Colt Cabana vs. Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss, Wardlow vs. Luchasaurus in a lumberjack match, FTR vs. Natural Nightmares and Jon Moxley in action with Taz on commentary were announced for next week’s Dynamite.

JR asked Tony for an update on Big Swole abducting Baker. Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
Reba used an app to track Britt’s phone and she found Baker in a dumpster. Baker chewed her out.
Baker promised to sue Big Swole and beat her if it’s the last thing she does.
***********
“Unkillable” Matt Hardy joined the commentary desk for the main event.

The main event is next.

Best Friends defeated Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara to retain their tag title shot at Fyter Fest
Hardy didn’t say much on commentary. He wasn’t bad but he didn’t add a lot in this role either.
Taylor and Trent opened aggressively, doing a good job selling that they were upset with Jericho for hurting their friend Orange. Taylor choked Jericho with a shirt. Trent speared Guevara on the floor.
Jericho and Guevara cut Taylor off. Guevara used Jericho’s old cocky pin attempt. Jericho hit some stomps. Jericho missed a lionsault enabling Taylor to tag Trent. Jericho tagged out as well.

Billy came back with a spinebuster and hit the Fameasser for the pin.

Alex Marvez was in the parking lot interviewing Dustin Rhodes and Brandi Rhodes. Marvez noted that QT Marshall was nowhere to be found.
Dustin and Brandi assured Marvez that Marshall was on his way. Marvez put over Brandi’s role in leading the Natural Nightmares to the number two ranking in the tag division.
Marshall pulled up in a new blue Corvette with Allie in the passenger seat. Brandi and Dustin wanted to know what was up with the car. Marshall said Allie told him someone of his magnitude should have a real car.
Brandi and Dustin said they’re all family and they’re looking out for QT and worried about him. Brandi asked QT if he really thought Allie was into him. QT said with his new hair and new car, what’s not to be into?
QT said he would be back later after he and Allie grab a bite to eat.

Butcher suplexed Cruz onto Blade’s knees and followed up with a cover for the pin.
**********
The unnamed interviewer was backstage with Peter Avalon, Brandon Cutler, and Leva Bates. She brought up Avalon and Cutler losing in the battle royal on last week’s Dynamite. Avalon and Cutler began to argue over who was worse. The interviewer was disgusted by these geeks and left.
Bates took the mic and said that two negatives equal a positive and Cutler and Avalon should team up with her in their corner.
Cutler agreed but only if Bates and Avalon agreed not to cheat.
This promo was a waste of time and resources.
**********
Christi Jaynes defeated KiLynn King
Jaynes has something. Obviously she has a great look but she’s a good athlete as well.
Jaynes and King traded shoulder tackles and taunts. Jaynes used some heel tactics to take control of the match. She hit some illegal strikes and pulled King’s hair in the corner.

Saturday’s AEW Double or Nothing card appears to be complete with the addition of Shawn Spears vs. Dustin Rhodes, made official on Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite.
Playing a broadcaster on “SSN” (Shawn Spears News), Spears mocked Rhodes and said he was retired before making a comment about how Rhodes had no problem popping pills 12 years ago. He then said he was upset about not being booked for Saturday’s show and challenged Rhodes. The match was then announced by the broadcast team a few minutes later without Rhodes appearing to officially accept.
Spears and Rhodes have wrestled once in a tag team match on AEW Dark, but never in a singles match. Spears has won his last three singles matches while Rhodes was last seen in a losing effort to Lance Archer in the TNT championship tournament semifinals.
As of now, Saturday’s pay-per-view is as follows:
AEW Champion Jon Moxley vs. Brodie Lee
AEW TNT Championship: Cody vs. Lance Archer
Stadium Stampede: The Inner Circle vs. The Elite & Matt Hardy
The TNT Championship tournament semifinals take place tonight on AEW Dynamite.
One semifinal bout will see Lance Archer face off with Dustin Rhodes. Rhodes earned his spot in the semis with a win over Kip Sabian on last week’s episode. Archer secured his place by winning against Colt Cabana.
The other semifinal will see Cody take on Darby Allin. These two have faced off twice before in AEW. They wrestled to a time limit draw at Fyter Fest last June, and Cody defeated Allin in their second matchup on the January 1, 2020 edition of Dynamite.
AEW World Champion Jon Moxley has been advertised as delivering a promo on tonight’s show. Moxley retained the championship with a win over Jake Hager two weeks ago. With no card yet announced for next month’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view, this promo could be about establishing a contender for Moxley’s title.
“The Exalted One” Mr. Brodie Lee will be in action tonight against Marko Stunt in a match that was set up on Dynamite last week. Also announced is a Best Friends vs. Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc no countout/no DQ match. Penelope Ford will be in Sabian and Havoc’s corner, while Orange Cassidy will accompany Best Friends.
Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone will once again be on commentary for tonight’s show.
Our coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

Schiavone and Jericho previewed the card. A Wardlow squash match was added to everything that had already been announced.
These guys had a hell of a match. This took up nearly the first 30 minutes of the show.
The story of this match was Allin working over Cody’s left knee.
They began with some chain wrestling. Allin targeted the knee with kicks.
They brawled outside where Allin dodged a charge from Cody. Cody accidentally took out Brandi. Cody briefly got the upper hand until Allin went back after the left knee. Back in the ring, Allin used a heel hook, a kneebar and an Indian deathlock variation.
As Cody rolled outside to collect himself, Britt Baker hit him with her shoe from the audience.
After a commercial break, Cody made a comeback. He landed a lariat, an x-plex and a disaster kick. Allin cut Cody off and hit Cross Rhodes for a near fall.
Allin used a figure four. Brandi returned to the ring with a bottle of water. Cody took a swig. Allin connected with a forearm and Cody did a spit take.
Allin went for a second rope Coffin Drop. Cody caught him coming in and hit Cross Rhodes. Allin kicked out. Cody went for a top rope Coffin Drop. Allin got his knees up.
The finish saw Allin go up top for a Coffin Drop. He landed it, but Cody pulled him over into a backslide and pinned him. This was the Triple H/Jeff Hardy finish from No Mercy 2007.

A Bubbly Bunch episode aired. They spoofed the stunt performer video that went viral this week.
This featured a ton of celebrity cameos, including Kevin Smith, Lou Ferrigno, Jericho’s dad Ted Irvine, Virgil and Vickie Guerrero.
**********
Best Friends (w/Orange Cassidy) defeated Jimmy Havoc & Kip Sabian (w/Penelope Ford) in a no DQ/no countout match
This was chaos. Everyone worked hard but this went nearly fifteen minutes which was just too long.
Trent and Sabian hit topes early on. Havoc threw a chair at Cassidy’s head and took him out. Cassidy went backstage.
Havoc suplexed Taylor on a pile of chairs on the floor. Trent speared Havoc on the floor. Havoc used a ladder and hit a slingshot on Trent into the ladder. This ladder didn’t appear to be a gimmicked ladder and it didn’t break until late in the match.
Trent and Taylor threw chairs at Havoc’s head and did their hug spot. Havoc pulled Trent off the top rope onto the ladder. Taylor hit a piledriver on Sabian onto a pile of chairs. Taylor went for a cover but Ford pulled him out of the cover.
Cassidy ran back down to the ring and topped Havoc from sending Taylor through a ladder. Ford accidentally hit a knee strike and a spear to Sabian as she tried to hit Cassidy. Cassidy hit a dive off the post to Ford and Sabian.
The finish saw Taylor hit an Awful Waffle on Havoc on a pile of chairs for the pin.
**********
A tremendous Britt Baker “role model” video package aired.
This co-starred Rebel, formerly of TNA, who is one of AEW’s makeup artists. Baker referred to her as “Reba.”
Baker said not everyone can be a role model. People who wear glasses can’t unless they’re a doctor. Fat people can’t be role models. People with snaggle teeth can’t. Baker used a photo of Schiavone to illustrate these points.
This was a comedy home run.
**********
Shawn Spears defeated Baron Black
Spears won a squash with a sharpshooter.
Earlier in the match, Spears hit a vertical suplex, a C4 and also tried to twerk.
**********
Taz broke down Lance Archer’s Blackout in a video package.

Mr. Brodie Lee defeated Marko Stunt
Lee hit a big boot, a series of throws, then pinned Stunt with a sit-out powerbomb.

Jon Moxley cut a promo. This was excellent.
He said he’s thankful for Jack Daniels, his wife, and steel chairs. He said DDTs are always better on steel chairs than not. He said they didn’t teach Jake Hager that at Oklahoma.
He said he’ll be back swearing and bleeding in front of a crowd again soon and we’ll all be together again soon.
Moxley said Dynamite is live next week. He’s throwing some Metallica cds in his truck and driving east. He knows he has a target on his back with Double or Nothing coming up.
Moxley ended the promo by telling us to support local businesses by ordering takeout, and most importantly, not to forget to call our grandmothers.
**********
Jon Moxley vs. Frankie Kazarian and MJF returning were advertised for next week’s show.
Also announced was Kenny Omega and Matt Hardy vs. “Le Sex Gods” Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara in a street fight.
This picked up in the last segment, but they had to go through two commercial breaks and worked at a lethargic pace in the first two segments.
Archer sent Rhodes rolling outside with a pounce. Archer grabbed a chair from under the ring. Rhodes grabbed the chair away. Archer kicked the the chair into Rhodes’s face. Rhodes bladed.
Archer continued to work on the cut after a commercial break. The idea was to let the blood provide drama and tell the story. They worked very, very slowly.
Rhodes fired up and hit a series of strikes. He hit a last shot in the corner, which was not worthy of a DQ. Rhodes missed a knee drop and Archer used a chinlock before another ad break.
Rhodes hit a destroyer. They traded strikes. Rhodes ducked two lariats and hit his own lariat. Archer ducked a bulldog but Rhodes hit a powerslam.
Rhodes went for ten punches in the corner. He hit five punches before Archer cut him off. Rhodes hit Cross Rhodes but Archer kicked out at one.
Rhodes came off the top rope into a chokeslam by Archer for a two count.
Archer walked the top rope and hit a moonsault for a near fall. That was nuts.
Archer went for Blackout but Rhodes blocked. Archer hit a chokeslam for a two count. Rhodes used a backslide for a quick two count.
Archer exposed a turnbuckle, then rammed Rhodes face-first into it.
QT Marshall came to ringside with a towel. He threatened to throw in the towel. Cody ran out and stopped him.
Cody asked Dustin if he wanted him to throw in the towel. Dustin refused.
Archer pulled Rhodes to the center of the ring and used the EBD Claw to pin him.
The semifinals of the TNT title tournament are now set.
The opening round of the tournament finished with Dustin Rhodes and Darby Allin picking up wins tonight over Sammy Guevara and Kip Sabian, respectively. Allin scored a win over Guevara tonight after locking in a pin maneuver called the Last Supper.
Rhodes told his brother Cody in the Road to the TNT title video that aired earlier this week that if he were to lose this tournament match, he would retire from pro wrestling. That didn’t happen, as Rhodes pinned Sabian with a Canadian destroyer after Brandi Rhodes took out Penelope Ford with a spear.
Both semifinal matches, which are set for next week, will feature Allin taking on Cody and Lance Archer facing Dustin Rhodes. The winners of these two matches will face each other in the finals at Double or Nothing on May 23. The winner will become the first AEW TNT champion.
The TNT Championship tournament continues tonight on AEW Dynamite.
In one half of the bracket, Sammy Guevara will face off with Darby Allin. The two have been feuding on and off for months. Guevara was responsible for Allin being out of action after an attack with Allin’s skateboard. They met in a singles match at AEW Revolution that saw Allin come out on top. The winner of Guevara vs. Allin will face Cody in the semifinals.
The other tournament match will see Kip Sabian take on Dustin Rhodes. Rhodes has vowed to retire if he loses the match. The winner of this bout will face Lance Archer in the other semifinal match.
Jimmy Havoc will take on Orange Cassidy in a singles bout tonight. This was set up last week when Havoc planted Cassidy with a DDT on the floor, blocking him from interfering in the Kip Sabian vs. Chuck Taylor match.
Wardlow, Brodie Lee, and Kenny Omega have been advertised for in-ring action tonight as well, but their opponents have not been named.
Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
**********
The show opened with Cody starring in a video package. This was a chance for him to show off his acting chops as he sat in front of a bank of monitors as if he were Batman in the Batcave.
Cody handicapped the remaining competitors in the TNT tournament. His delivery was very good.
**********
Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone previewed the rest of the show.
**********
A Sammy Guevara video package played. Sammy cut a strong promo. He said Darby beat him at Revolution but he’s going to beat him tonight.
**********
A Darby Allin video package played. This was shot in the black and white style that has been used in most of his promo packages. Allin vowed to win.
This was a very good match. Not as good as their Revolution bout, but this was hampered by two commercial breaks and an empty arena.
Guevara attacked Allin as he made his entrance. Guevara beat Allin all around ringside. He pulled a ladder from under the ring and set up a ladder bridge from the apron to the barricade, then placed Allin on the ladder.
Guevara hit a splash off the top rope through the ladder. The ladder didn’t appear to be gimmicked and it didn’t break. The ringside doctor checked on both men as they went to the first commercial break.
After the break, the opening bell rang. Guevara went to work on Allin in the ring with strikes. He teased a superplex but Allin blocked. Allin took off Guevara’s left boot and began stomping and headbutting the ankle.
Guevara hit a springboard cutter for a two count. Allin barred Guevara’s knee and used a heel hook. Guevara hit a boot to the face for a near fall. Allin was bleeding from the nose.
Allin rolled to the floor before the second commercial break of the match.
Back from break, Allin went for a suicide dive but hit the barricade instead. That’s a spectacular spot but it’s profoundly stupid.
Guevara barely connected on a 630 splash. Allin grabbed the rope and forced a break on the ensuing pin attempt.
The finish saw Allin hit a backpack stunner. Guevara tried a burning hammer GTS but Allin blocked. Allin then rolled through into the Last Supper and pinned Guevara.
**********
Broken Matt Hardy cut a promo. This seemed to set up Hardy vs. Guevara at the Hardy compound, with Hardy working his way through the Inner Circle until he gets to Jericho. Nothing was officially announced, though.
Hardy said that Jericho never responded to his challenge. He said maybe if Jericho doesn’t want to come to the Hardy cimpound, maybe Sammy Guevara should come face him instead.
Hardy said maybe Jericho didn’t respond to him because Broken Matt is too intense. He said maybe Jericho needs to hear from Matt’s mortal vessel.
Matt Hardy then appeared without the Broken gimmick and addressed Jericho. He said he’s known Jericho for 20 years. He said he’s got the back of his friends The Elite and he won’t let Jericho use AEW as a platform.
Hardy vowed to kick Guevara’s ass and kick the ass of the whole Inner Circle.
This was a good promo, particularly once he dropped the Broken character.
**********
Kenny Omega defeated Alan Angels
Jericho was tremendous on commentary in this match. Omega gave Angels a ton of offense. Too much, really.
Angels hit a leg kick. Angels had an answer for everything Omega tried early on. Angels hit a senton. Angels used the ring skirt to trip Omega. Angels got a two count off a springboard move.
Omega missed a V-Trigger but managed to connect with a snap dragon suplex. Omega hit a V-Trigger but Angels kicked out.
Omega connected with another V-Trigger for the pin.
**********
A Scorpio Sky video package played.
Sky said he wanted to be a wrestler for as long as he could remember. He said he suffered a serious back injury in 2008 or 2009 that threatened his career.
He said he doesn’t believe in miracles but one day he woke up and his back didn’t hurt. He got back into wrestling but always had bad luck as far as getting a big break.
Sky said everything changed in 2017 when SCU formed.
**********
They played the Road To video where Dustin Rhodes vowed to retire if he lost tonight while leaving Cody a voicemail.
**********
A Being The Elite commercial played, hyping episode 200.
**********
Orange Cassidy defeated Jimmy Havoc
I like both of these guys but this went way too long.
Havoc attacked Cassidy before the bell and dominated the match.
Havoc choked Cassidy with Cassidy’s own jacket and t-shirt. Havoc crotched Cassidy on the barricade and suplexed him on the floor.
Havoc hit a DVD and used an armbar. Havoc bit Cassidy’s hands.
Cassidy finally made a comeback. He hit a crossbody and a swing DDT. Havoc cut Cassidy off again. Cassidy came back with a splash.
The match broke down into chaos. Penelope Ford jumped on the apron. Chuck Taylor tried to pull her off. Instead, Ford did the splits on the apron. Kip Sabian flew in with a tope over the top rope to the floor, wiping out Taylor and Trent.
Back inside, Cassidy tripped Havoc and used a crucifix for the flash pin.
**********
Havoc immediately killed Cassidy wit a DDT after the match. Taylor and Trent jumped in to make the save. Some kind of multi-person match between Best Friends and Cassidy, Havoc, Sabian and maybe Ford seems imminent.
**********
MJF cut a promo from “his rat’s house” in Cape Cod.
MJF said he suffered a hangnail while gambling at his last Dynamite appearance. He said it’s become life-threatening and may require surgery. The camera pulled back to reveal MJF in a sling.
He vowed to return and win the AEW title.
**********
Wardlow defeated Lee Johnson
Just a quick squash here.
Johnson scored with one dropkick. Wardlow hit a series of suplexes and won with his F-10.
**********
A Brodie Lee video aired.
A Dark Order hopeful was shown. His girlfriend Samantha broke up with him by voicemail. He got injured in a college football game and turned to the Dark Order website.
The hopeful met with Lee who asked him how tall he was, how much he weighed and whether or not he played college football. The hopeful answered 6’2″, 240, and yes he played football.
Lee offered him success.
**********
Brodie Lee defeated Justin Law
Lee won a squash with a discus lariat after hitting a variety of suplexes and throws.
**********
Marko Stunt taunted Lee from the audience. Lee stared him down. This looks to be a match sometime soon.
**********
Best Friends vs. Jimmy Havoc and Kip Sabian was set up via a backstage promo with Best Friends. No official announcement was made for when this will take place.
**********
Brodie Lee vs. Marko Stunt was announced for next week. A double main event of both TNT tournament semifinals was also announced for next week.
**********
Another episode of The Bubbly Bunch aired.
Sammy lamented that they had been down lately. Jericho said that they should do Flim Flam dances to cheer themselves up. Sammy wasn’t in until Jericho promised hand sanitizer to the winner. Flim Flam was a Tik Tok spoof, in case you needed this spelled out.
Guevara won the dance contest.
I enjoyed this much more than the first episode of The Bubbly Bunch.
**********
A hype video played for the main event with strong promos from both Rhodes and Sabian.
Rhodes took the early part of the match. He worked on the left arm of Sabian. Sabian backed Rhodes into the corner. From there, Ford grabbed the ankle of Rhodes which allowed Sabian to take over.
Sabian hit a penalty kick for a near fall before a commercial break.
Sabian worked on the left leg. Rhodes did a nice job of selling like he was having a tough time walking and running. Rhodes used a quick crucifix for a two count.
Sabian hit a knee to the chest and used a lariat for a near fall. They traded cradles for near falls.
Rhodes made his comeback and hit a bunch of signature spots, including his powerslam.
Sabian cut Rhodes off and hit a DDT for a near fall. Sabian hit a series of punches from mount. Sabian took the referee.
With the ref distracted, Ford jumped in the ring. Brandi jumped in and hit her with a spear.
The finish saw Rhodes make it to his feet and hit a code red for the pin on Sabian.
**********
Rhodes celebrated in the ring after the match.
**********
As the show was going off the air, Schiavone said that Tony Khan just told him in his ear that Kip Sabian & Jimmy Havoc vs. Best Friends in a no DQ match was signed for next week.
**********
I thought this show was paced pretty well but it lacked some sizzle outside of the opening match.
I would have given the main event more time and cut the Havoc/Cassidy match some.
Empty arena wrestling continues to be a tough watch but there’s great effort from the crew here.
Dustin Rhodes said that if he doesn’t beat Kip Sabian on Dynamite this Wednesday, he will retire.
AEW’s social media today shared a clip of the upcoming Road to the TNT Championship video that will drop on Monday. In the video, he is shown talking to Cody via phone about his match against Sabian this Wednesday, saying if he doesn’t win the match and advance in the tournament, he’ll retire.
The winner between Sabian and Rhodes will face Lance Archer, who defeated Colt Cabana to advance. Another tournament match that will take place Wednesday features Sammy Guevara facing Darby Allin. The winner of that match will face Cody in the semifinals.
The two semi finalists will meet at Double or Nothing on May 23 to determine the first TNT champion.
Additional matches for this week’s Dynamite will see Jimmy Havoc face Orange Cassidy. Kenny Omega and Mr. Brodie will also be in action. AEW additionally announced today that Wardlow will also be in action.
Next week’s AEW Dynamite has been rounded out with three new matches joining the final two TNT Championship tournament bouts.
Darby Allin vs. Sammy Guevara and Kip Sabian vs. Dustin Rhodes were announced for next week’s show, completing the quarterfinals. The Guevara-Allin winner will face Cody in the semifinals, while the Rhodes-Sabian winner will face Lance Archer, who defeated Colt Cabana on tonight’s show.
Allin and Guevara had a confrontation tonight after Guevara defeated Suge D. “The Spanish God” cut a promo calling Allin a face-painted weird and was about to attack Suge D again when Allin came in for the save.
The two semifinalists will compete in a match at Double or Nothing on May 23 to determine the first ever AEW TNT champion.
Also made for next week was Orange Cassidy of Best Friends returning to singles action against Jimmy Havoc. The match stems from an attack on tonight’s show when Havoc appeared from the crowd and DDT’d Cassidy, who was at ringside for the Chuck Taylor vs. Kip Sabian match.
Additionally, Brodie Lee and Kenny Omega will each be in action next week, but their opponents were not announced.
Filmed before and after last Wednesday’s Dynamite in Jacksonville, Florida, this week’s edition of AEW Dark on Tuesday will feature six matches including several talents making their promotional debut.
Shawn Spears (w/ Tully Blanchard) & Robert Anthony vs. SCU (Christoper Daniels and Frankie Kazarian)
Spears continues his search for a permanent tag team partner with the former Egotistico Fantastico. The 37-year-old was in WWE developmental for several years and has also worked for Combat Zone and Resistance Pro. Spears has yet to win a traditional tag match in his AEW run (0-6).
Outside six-man tag matches with Scorpio Sky, this will be the first time Daniels and Kazarian have teamed together under the AEW banner.

This is the first time Kiss and Janela have teamed up. This will be the promotional debuts for both the Alabama-born Hollis and the Florida-born Reed.

Jake Hager vs. Joe Alonzo
The Inner Circle member is looking to run his AEW singles record to 3-0 against the 22-year-old Alonzo who is making his promotional debut.
A new match has been announced for Revolution at the end of this month.
Dustin Rhodes will face Jake Hager in a singles match. It will be the first time that Hager has stepped foot into a AEW ring in a wrestling capacity.
The feud between the two extends as far back as October, when Jake Hager injured Rhodes’ hand by smashing it into a car door during a parking lot brawl. Dustin has since gone after the Inner Circle, including facing Sammy Guevara on two occasions.
On tonight’s episode of Dynamite, Rhodes scored the win over Guevara. After the match, Dustin called out Hager, saying that he’s a failure in MMA and he’s a failure here before he’s even started. It was here that Rhodes threw out the challenge for Revolution. Hager walked to the back, not responding,
Revolution will take place on February 29 at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
A new match has been signed for Dynamite this week.
Sammy Guevara will face Dustin Rhodes in a singles match. The two faced off last month on the first Dynamite event of the year. In that match, Guevara defeated Rhodes after Jake Hager interfered, kneeing Rhodes in the groin.
There are a number of matches already announced for this week’s Dynamite. Jon Moxley will fight Santana in an eye for an eye match after Moxley attacked Santana’s eye last week.
Riho will also defend the AEW Women’s title against Nyla Rose, who became the number one contender several weeks ago.
The next several weeks also feature big matches. The February 19 edition of Dynamite will have a Tag Team Battle Royal to determine the next Tag Team title challengers, while Cody will face Wardlow in a steel cage match. The following week, Kenny Omega will face PAC in a 30-minute iron man match.
This week’s edition of Dynamite will take place at the H.E.B. Center in Austin, Texas.
