Amanda Huber, Erick Rowan remember Brodie Lee on fifth anniversary of death

December 26 marks five years since the death of Brodie Lee, a champion wrestler and beloved figure in the industry.

Lee (Jon Huber) passed away at 41 years old on this day in 2020 after battling a rare lung disease. His wife Amanda Huber — now a community outreach coordinator for AEW — posted a touching tribute today, writing that five years is especially tough because it feels like the next milestone. She wishes that she could have even one more hour with Lee to thank him for the life they built and to show him how amazing their two sons, Brodie Jr. and Nolan, are.

  • Five years.
  • This year seems heavier. Five seems like the next milestone. At first it was making it thru the first hour you were gone. Then the first day. First week. First month. Six months. First year.
  • Five seems like the next milestone.
  • I still remember it like it was yesterday. I can close my eyes and walk thru the whole day. Waking up that morning in the hotel and knowing it was going to be over. Taking in the walk from the hotel to the hospital. Walking into the room with Big Hero 6 playing. Seeing my incredible nursing staff (including one who wasn’t supposed to be there but came in so I wasn’t alone) Watching our friends filter thru. Going thru the worst moment of my life telling Brodie. Walking back to the hospital knowing it was the last time. The sounds the family made when they walked into the room and saw him for the first time. Holding his hand as he let go. My nurses holding me in that moment. Cleaning up the room I essentially lived in for months. Getting texts of Brodie flying kites on the beach with @CodyRhodes Taking in the sunset on my final walk back to the hotel. Sitting in the hotel room trying to come up with the words to put out to the public that he was gone.
  • I know I said this recently but I’d give almost anything to have just another hour. For you to see the amazing people the boys have grown into. To see how smart and funny Nolan is. To see how passionate Brodie is. To talk to them both and realize how lucky we were to be parents to such amazing little boys. Also to thank you for giving me them. Thank you for teaching me so much about myself over the years. For bringing me into your amazing family. Just to thank you for everything.
  • I wish I had more words for this.
  • I miss your laugh. I miss the way you’d make me laugh. I miss watching you play with the kids. I miss watching you nap with the dogs. I miss texting you unflattering pictures of Ham. I miss you putting over my cooking. I miss thousands of little things and micro moments where I’m reminded of the hole you left.
  • I love you forever. Thank you for making me the luckiest

Brodie Lee Jr. has the option of joining AEW as a wrestler when he turns 18 years old. He’s been training to potentially follow in his late father’s footsteps, including working with Natalya and TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd) at their Dungeon facility.

WWE wrestler Erick Rowan — Lee’s tag team partner and Wyatt Family stablemate — also took a moment today to remember his late “brother.”

  • Grief is a funny thing. It’s something that never goes away. Some days are good, filled with emotional memories, some not so good, filled with frustration. People can leave a lasting impression on others either for the bad or the good. JON was the latter. Can’t think of one person who had a bad thing to say about the wrestler, the father, the husband, or the man. He was the foundation of what I myself hope to be. 5 years has passed since we last talked on this physical realm. But you are part of my heart always. Love you forever brother…..

Lee’s final match took place for AEW in October 2020. He was a TNT Champion for the promotion and held multiple titles during his WWE career, but the most important thing to him in life was being a good father.

“I guess if I had a goal in life, it was to be as good of a dad as my dad,” Lee said in a 2018 video for WWE. “And I think I’m on my way.”

Brodie Lee Jr. clarifies his AEW contract status

In a new interview with The Wrestling Classic, Brodie Lee Jr. clarified what his AEW contract status actually is.

The 13-year-old Brodie is not officially under contract anywhere at the moment, though he did sign an AEW deal in 2020 during his father’s difficult health battle. Brodie explained to The Wrestling Classic that the contract he signed still exists but is not in effect yet. It is a totally optional deal that gives him the choice of whether or not he wants to join AEW as a wrestler when he turns 18 years old.

“I’m not signed. Everybody thinks I’m signed. I’m not signed,” he said. “The deal was, when I turn 18, if I want that contract, it is always open. The only thing I really signed was a — it was that, and I also signed a random, like, contract for when I turned 18: me vs. Mox in a death match.”

Brodie said he definitely does want to wrestle Jon Moxley, but he doesn’t know if he actually wants to have a death match.

Wrestling is something that Brodie is passionate about, and he hopes to make it his career. He’s trained with Natalya and TJ Wilson at their Dungeon facility and has made appearances in AEW, ROH, and GCW. He’s also been in the crowd supporting his friend Cody Rhodes in WWE.

Brodie Lee Sr. (Jon Huber) passed away at 41 years old in December 2020 due to a rare lung disease. His wife Amanda Huber works for AEW as a community outreach coordinator.

Sami Zayn, Jey Uso & Braun Strowman honor Bray Wyatt, Brodie Lee after WWE SmackDown

Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, and Braun Strowman paid tribute to the families of Bray Wyatt and Brodie Lee following WWE SmackDown last night.

After the show went off the air, the three babyfaces brought Wyatt’s son Knash and Lee’s sons Brodie (aka Negative One) and Nolan into the ring. The night ended with them leading the Tampa crowd in “Yeet” chants.

Strowman noted that JoJo Offerman and Wyatt’s son and daughter were in attendance before carrying Knash with him into the ring.

Strowman said:

“This is my godson, Knash, and his beautiful sister, Hyrie, over there, and JoJo (Offerman), the whole family. I want to say thank y’all for the continued love and support for my family outside of here with this. I’ve had an unbelievably rough couple of last years, and I thought my career was over with my neck injury. I’ve lost two of my best friends in this industry in the last four years. And what keeps me moving and doing this every night are these kids, and every single one of y’all give me the strength to push through this unbelievable pain that I’m in, because I freaking love them. I love them, and I love every single one of y’all. I wish you many, many blessings in 2025!”

Jey Uso invited Brodie Lee’s sons into the ring, encouraging them to hop the rail.

“Hey, you can hop the gate. I know you. You hop the gate. Come up in here,” Uso can be heard saying to the boys.

“It’s the Wyatt family for real. It’s the next Bloodline, for real,” he continued as they entered the ring.

The show took place four years and one day after Lee’s passing due to Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis on December 26, 2020. Seth Rollins also paid tribute to Lee recently at Thursday’s WWE Madison Square Garden Live event on the anniversary of his passing.

AEW honoring Brodie Lee with new Reebok collaboration

AEW and Reebok are collaborating together to honor the late Brodie Lee.

On July 1, new Reebok sneakers paying tribute to Lee will be released through Champs Sports both online and in store. The sneakers, which have a purple and black color scheme modeled after the Dark Order, are priced at $90. The “AEW x Reebok Classic Leather Brodie Lee” is the name of the collaboration.

Here’s the full description of the sneakers (courtesy of Sole Retriever):

The AEW x Reebok Classic Leather Brodie Lee combines suede and leather on the upper, with most of the sneaker covered in sleek black hues. Purple accents on the heel and tongue tag add a vibrant contrast, symbolizing Brodie Lee’s connection to The Dark Order. AEW branding appears on an added tag on the lateral collar, while the tongue tag showcases The Dark Order’s logo. Inside, the tongue features a touching tribute to The Exalted One, a nickname for Brodie Lee. The midsole combines purple and grey tones, with a special nod to Brodie Lee near the heel, and the outsole matches the black and purple theme, completing the look.

Lee (Jon Huber) passed away at 41 years old in December 2020 due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a rare lung disease. He remains one of the most beloved figures in AEW history. Lee held the TNT Championship once during his time with the promotion.

Before joining AEW, Lee wrestled in WWE as Luke Harper and was a member of the Wyatt Family.

This is the second collaboration between AEW and Reebok. Last month, new Young Bucks Reebok sneakers went on sale through Champs Sports with all 3,000 pairs selling out quickly.

Anna Jay emotionally reflects on AEW Brodie Lee tribute match

Wednesday was an emotional night for Anna Jay.

With AEW returning home to Jacksonville for last night’s Dynamite, two tag matches took place honoring the late Brodie Lee (Jon Huber). The women’s tag match saw Jay, Willow Nightingale, Thunder Rosa & Kris Statlander defeat Skye Blue, Julia Hart, Saraya & Ruby Soho.

Jay and Lee were part of The Dark Order together in AEW. To honor her mentor, Jay submitted Blue to win last night’s match.

AEW uploaded a post-show interview on Thursday with Jay reflecting on what Lee meant to her career.

Yeah, he’s really what started me here in AEW. He was here from the beginning as soon as I was signed at 21, he kind of took me under his wing. I was in The Dark Order to begin with, and he’s somebody who kind of showed me what was right, what was wrong, what to do, what not to do, and really helped me a lot.

Now not having him obviously is really difficult. But tonight really sparked something in me I feel like that I haven’t had since then. He’s somebody who kind of gave me a lot of hope in the beginning. And now recently, I just haven’t really had it. And you know what, I feel like tonight, like I said, kind of sparked that again in me. I feel like I’m ready again.

Jay then got emotional when asked if she thinks Lee would be proud of her.

Oh, goodness. I hope so. Yeah, I hope so, but I think, like I said, tonight kind of has given me that fire again to keep going more where maybe I lost some of it. Though I think now I do want to make him more proud.

Lee passed away at 41 years old in December 2020.

In the other match honoring Lee on last night’s Dynamite, Preston Vance, Adam Copeland, Orange Cassidy & Dustin Rhodes defeated Bishop Kaun, Toa Liona, Brian Cage & Lance Archer. Lee’s protege Vance pinned Kaun in that match.

Seth Rollins pays tribute to Bray Wyatt, Brodie Lee at WWE house show

Rollins said:

I know they got the lights down real low for us. The mood is set. Has anybody got any fireflies among the audience tonight? I see a couple. I see a few now.

This time of year, loved ones are always on our minds, man. You know what I’m saying? Yeah, yeah, yeah!

Erick Rowan posts tribute to Bray Wyatt, Brodie Lee

In an emotional Instagram post on Friday, Erick Rowan (Joseph Ruud) paid tribute to his departed Wyatt Family stablemates.

Despite no longer being with WWE, Rowan was brought into SmackDown last Friday to be part of the company’s tribute to Bray Wyatt (Windham Rotunda). Wyatt passed away due to a heart issue on August 24.

Rowan explained in his tribute that he and Wyatt originally bonded over their mutual love of horror movies and music while in FCW. Over time, the Wyatt Family’s on-screen partnership grew into a real-life bond. Rowan wrote that, though Wyatt and Luke Harper/Brodie Lee (Jon Huber) are no longer here, he knows they’re always listening and smiling. Rowan expressed how much his heart hurts for Wyatt and Brodie’s families.

“I love you both so much,” Rowan wrote. “This is only Goodbye for Now, I will see you down the road.”

His full tribute can be read below:

Writing this down makes my soul foggy and my heart ache. Over 12 years ago from the island of FCW we would talk of our mutual love of horror movies and music before embarking on this crazy journey that brought us around the world with Jon. In the process something happened, this family we portrayed weekly in the wrestling world became a real life bond. We spent more time together over the next few years than we would our own families. Strengthening our bond as we dealt with life trials and tribulations together. Eventually this family grew with the introduction of Adam. As did our love for one another. Life is sometimes unfair, I want to pick up the phone and talk to my brothers. For when I think of Windham It makes me think of Jon then the reality of the crazy truth that they are no longer with us. Though I know they are always listening and smiling. With their sudden passings I can not state enough how much they loved their families. My heart hurts for their kids, for Jojo for Amanda for their brothers and sisters or anyone lucky enough to call them a friend. I love you both so much. This is only Goodbye for Now, I will see you down the road.

Braun Strowman (Adam Scherr) responded: “Love you brother. Family over everything”

Strowman underwent neck fusion surgery in June but was also brought into SmackDown last week for Wyatt’s tribute. He and Rowan stood together on the stage for the 10-bell salute to Wyatt and Terry Funk.

Rowan also appeared during AEW’s Brodie Lee tribute show in December 2020.

Bray Wyatt says he’s reminded of Brodie Lee ‘every single day’

Bray Wyatt has opened up on the impact Brodie Lee’s passing has had on him.

Wyatt was a guest on an episode of Out of Character released on Friday. During the conversation, Wyatt spoke about having lost multiple friends in recent years and the difficulty he’s had dealing with Brodie’s death.

Wyatt said:

There was just so much going on. It was out of nowhere, you know? I wasn’t prepared for any of that. I lost my childhood best friend, I lost Brodie, I lost my best friend from college, Mark.

It was something that I think I didn’t deal with very well. I think Brodie’s wife Amanda dealt with it and the kids dealt with it better than me and Rowan did. There’s something there that reminds me of him every single day. That time period was such a conundrum for me. I wasn’t myself and it took me a while to kind of remember what makes me me. It was a long journey, man, but it’s led me here into this moment and this is the best I’ve ever felt.

Brodie Lee passed away at 41 years old on December 26, 2020, from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He had been a member of the Wyatt Family along with Bray from 2012 to 2014 and again from 2015 to 2017.

Later in the show, Wyatt spoke about the Uncle Howdy character and teased that there is more to him than fans have seen.

Wyatt said:

Uncle Howdy and Bray and all these things, these are all real. They are based on moments and things that have really happened. The Uncle Howdy, there is so much more to it than you think. It’s not just so cut and dry, spooky man in the background, there’s more to it. There’s complexities that you haven’t gotten to see yet. There’s things that I don’t understand about it and that’s the beauty of it is it’s going to grow organically but the story of it I don’t even think has been told yet. Once you understand what it really is and where it came from in my childhood and who Howdy really is, it’s much deeper than you think it is, than you would perceive it to be.

Wyatt will face LA Knight in a Mountain Dew Pitch Black match Saturday at the Royal Rumble. While it will be his first match on WWE programming since WrestleMania 37, it will be his fifth since returning to the company. Wyatt wrestled four straight house shows on WWE’s holiday tour from December 26 to 29. He defeated Jinder Mahal on each show.

Seth Rollins pays tribute to Brodie Lee at WWE house show in Rochester

Seth Rollins paid tribute to Brodie Lee at Saturday’s WWE house show in Rochester, New York.

Following his match, Rollins cut a promo paying tribute to Lee in his hometown.

“He passed away a couple of years ago around this time and this is the first time I’ve been here with a microphone in my hand in this city to tell him how much I miss him and how much I love him,” Rollins said. “I just wanted to say tonight was for him, every time we are in Rochester, in my heart, that means we’re here for him. It’s Saturday, and you know what that means, so do your damn thing and sing my song.”

Lee, who had runs in AEW and also in WWE under the name Luke Harper, passed away on December 26, 2020 from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He had been out of action since that October, losing the TNT Championship to Cody Rhodes in what would be his final match.

Amanda Huber says Brodie Lee would be ‘over the moon’ if he saw -1 in AEW

Amanda Huber says that if Brodie Lee could see his son perform as Negative One in AEW, he would be “just bubbling over the moon.”

Jon Huber (Brodie Lee) passed away on December 26, 2020, of a rare lung condition. Following a tribute show in his father’s honor, Brodie Huber (Negative One, Brody Lee Jr.) has become an official member of The Dark Order and regularly appears on AEW programming.

Brodie and Amanda Huber spoke with Men’s Health about the relationship they’ve had with AEW ever since Jon’s passing. Brodie Jr. also spoke about the tribute show held in honor of his father and being given the TNT Championship belt by Tony Khan.

“Holding the belt that my dad held, just to be in that moment, was … it was definitely … it was hard,” he said.

“I want to be just like him,” Brodie continued to say of his father. He also noted that when he’s older he wants to grow a big, bushy beard just like him too.

Amanda also fired back at critics who accuse AEW of exploiting Brodie Jr. by having him on shows. She said that the company has handled everything with “such grace and such kindness.”

“I personally don’t feel like they’ve exploited him, or taken advantage of us. Everything’s always felt to me like it’s done with nothing but love. I think people are skeptical and pessimistic and assume that it’s a lot more sinister than it is,” she continued.

Brodie Lee had said previously that he didn’t want his sons to be wrestlers. Amanda says that he would probably be ‘over the moon’ if he could see Brodie Lee Jr. in AEW, however.

“He would tell you he absolutely hates it,” she said. “But I could tell you that deep down, in his heart, he would be just bubbling over the moon.”

Brodie Lee Jr. also spoke about how he thinks his father would feel about him being involved in wrestling and carrying on his legacy.

“I bet if he was here, he would probably change his mind,” he said. “He just wanted me to be happy. If he were here, to have him see me be in the happiest place, me being in the happiest mood, I feel like that would brighten up his day.”

MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

Bryan and I will be back tonight talking about Jimmy Rave, Jon Huber, Wrestler of the Year as well as tonight’s Raw.  You can also send questions to the show to [email protected].

Today would have been the 10th anniversary for Jon and Amanda Huber. We are also just weeks from the first anniversary of Jon’s death. Amanda wrote a story about her life with Jon that I would label must read.

We’re looking for reports from St. Paul tonight for Raw with anything not on the live show, such as Main Event or dark matches. We are also doing polls on UFC 269 and ROH Final Battle, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumb s in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

Raw is unknown tonight past Bobby Lashley will be doing an interview, Bianca Belair faces Doudrop in a match and Maryse returns. The Mysterios vs,. Street Profits match for a tag title shot scheduled for tonight is off. WWE said that there were injuries to both teams and the match would be rescheduled.  Montez Ford was injured.  Announced for dark matches are Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair for the women’s title and Big E vs. Kevin Owens vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE title.

The competition tonight is the Los Angeles Rams vs. St. Louis Cardinals which, based on one team being 8-4 and the other being 10-2, should be significant competition.

For tonight’s show, they are moving people who were in the upper decks down in front of the camera. There were still a lot of seats in front of the camera not sold so they will have to be moving people and perhaps papering. They’ve also dropped prices although that is part of normal procedure is they start out with very expensive prices, and get the hardcores to buy the best seats early, and then drop prices near the show to try and drive late buys based on discounting.

For Friday ratings, Smackdown did 2,142,000 viewers and 0.50 in 18-49. Rampage did 503,000 viewers and 0.18 (tag title match did 0.22 and 601,000).

Showbuzz Daily hasn’t been updated today. The ratings are out so it could be a one day thing, but after that disappearance for months, you wonder every time as there is no message regarding it.

Sports Business Journal listed the WWE threesome of Nick Khan,Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon in their list of the top ten most influential sports executives. The top ten were listed more as a category with WWE in the top ten listing those three. Others in the top ten included ESPN, NBC Sports Group, Amazon, CBS Sports, Fox Sports and Warner Media/Turner Spots.

Bellator announced a title unification with heavyweight champion Ryan Bader (28-7,1  no contest) vs. Valentin Moldasky (11-1), the interim champion, taking place on 1/29 in Phoenix, which is head-to-head with the Royal Rumble. Also announced for that show is Darrion Caldwell vs. Enique Barzola.

They are also putting tickets on sale for Rampage and the Revolution PPV on 3/4 and 3/6 in Orlando on Thursday for the presale and Friday for the general public. Brodie Lee’s wife, brother establish Jon Huber Legacy Foundation

The wife and brother of the late Brodie Lee announced Wednesday they have created the Jon Huber Legacy Foundation which will “focus on providing support to people in creative fields who have not taken the next step in their career because of family obligations.”

The announcement comes as AEW is in Huber’s hometown of Rochester, NY, Wednesday for Dynamite which will be dedicated to his memory.

Starting in 2022, the foundation “will select a group of creative individuals to support with resources, connections, practical skills, and direct funding. The cohort will meet throughout the year to learn from experts in areas including business planning, artist management, public relations, brand management, finances, and IP law. These skills and connections will help them provide for their families while also helping them pursue their dreams.”

Huber, a member of the AEW roster, passed away last December 26th due to a lung issue at 41 years old.

The group expects to announce taking its first round of applications in the first part of 2022.

In the release, Amanda Huber said, “Jon almost gave up on his dream of wrestling because of his family. But he got the call to move up to WWE while we were in the hospital with our first child. I can’t think of a better way of honoring his commitment to family and his career than to help other people who are facing the same dilemma.”

From Huber’s brother, Chris: “Many artists and wrestlers are never taught how to manage their finances, investments, and assets in a way to make sure their family is secure. Like our father, Jon always wanted to make sure he was making decisions that were the right decision not only for his career, but also for his family.”

WWE has announced that Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E will honor the life of Huber on their podcast this Monday (January 11). Cesaro, Tyler Breeze, and Erick Rowan will join The New Day for “an in-depth conversation about their friend, whose legacy in the ring, in the locker room and beyond will live forever.”

Rowan also appeared on AEW Dynamite’s Brodie Lee tribute show.

A video version of The New Day podcast’s tribute to Huber will be available for free on the WWE Network starting at 10 a.m. Eastern time on Monday.

WWE’s full announcement is available below:

The tragic passing of Jon ‘Luke Harper’ Huber on Dec. 26 shook the WWE Universe and the wrestling world to its core, leading to an outpouring of stories, memories and tributes celebrating the former Intercontinental Champion as a competitor, as a cherished friend and as family.

On tomorrow’s special episode of The New Day’s podcast, The New Day: Feel the Power, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E invite special guests Cesaro, Tyler Breeze and Erick Rowan – Huber’s longtime tag team partner – for an in-depth conversation about their friend, whose legacy in the ring, in the locker room and beyond will live forever.
